This thesis aims to study the wideband RF imperfection problems. The problems include the frequency independent I/Q imbalance, frequency dependent I/Q imbalance, and DC I/Q offset. We will explore the useful wideband impairment parameters estimation, compensation, and calibration procedures. For the estimation schemes, the following two schemes will be studied. One is the joint calibration of transmitter and receiver impairments. Another scheme is that to use the real I/Q channel model to represent both the I/Q compensator and the direct up/down-converter channel. Next, the compensation techniques will be the cascaded equalization algorithms to overcome the frequency independent, dependent I/Q imbalance, and DC I/Q offset. For the calibration procedures, the procedure is the receiver RF calibration being processed before the transmitter RF side, which will be realized by the I/Q received signal. For the main purpose, it is expected that the above methods can be employed for the calibration of ITRI wideband RF module and be implemented to transmit the wideband single-carrier and multi-carrier signals. The thesis designs the following steps for the RF calibration. First, to develop all digital software simulation platform, it can emulate the wideband RF imperfections and design the estimation and compensation technologies. Next, to employ the wideband RF module, e.g., AD9371 RF module, and the wideband instrument platform, e.g., NI PXIe-1075 5646R, generating the wideband RF impairments, it can integrate the previous software platform to verify the performance of the proposed calibration techniques. Finally, for the ITRI wideband RF module, the proposed calibration procedures can provide the reliable calibration performance and realize the wideband signal communication. To sum up, the above proposed design flows can combine the theory, simulation, instrument, RF module, and the practical measurements to overcome the wideband RF imperfections and to achieve the requirement of the wideband high equality communications.
