Full textThe solution of the wave equation is a critical to successful depth imaging, and can be solved by several different methods. Some are very accurate but costly to run; others are less expensive, but also less accurate in complex media. We shall consider here the Generalized Screen Propagator (GSP) method, which is based on an expansion of the solution of the Bremmer series, using the Fourier Transform. Theoretically, we have developed a model of arbitrary order. Numerically, this is the zero order model. The key result is an optimization of the Bremmer calculus algorithm. In addition, we have defined a new reflection operator with a simplified numerical formulation. Finally, the code has been written to allow the integration of existing codes, e. G. Paraxial equations, Born approximation. A series of numerical tests in 2D and 3D are presented which illustrate both the performance of the GSP algorithm as well as its limitations

Full textFour subduction earthquakes shook Colombia-Ecuador convergent margin in 1906, 1942, 1958 and 1979. The last three earthquake ruptures zones abut between them. They are consecutives towards the North and appear limited by transverse crustal structures. Our aim is to obtain a 3D velocity model of this region by tomographic inversion of first traveltime arrivals, and define some velocity heterogeneities spatial extension associated with the margin seismic behaviour. Our model shows the subducting Nazca plate that has a thickness of ~6-8 km. It consists of a thin sedimentary cover (Vp >3. 5 km/s) and two layers associated with oceanic layer 2 and 3. We correlated the Moho with the iso-velocity 7. 5 km/s. An increase of the plate flexure is observed toward the NE of our study area, where the Nazca plate comes in subduction. The South American margin is made of a sedimentary cover (Vp < 4. 5 km/s) and two layers with high seismic velocities that highlight its oceanic origin. The margin shows two remarkable structures : a low result of fracturation and fluid percolation. It seems to be the seaward limit of the 1958 earthquake rupture zone. This LVGB may have deformed plastically and the seismic rupture could have been absorbed at the margin front. Finally, the LVZ is a feature limited by the Manglares basin, the Esmeraldas fault, and the backstop, at 5-10 km depth. This LVZ could be a region affected by fluids that percolate through the margin from the subduction channel, which may be trapped by heterogeneity of the margin

Full textThree-dimensional seismic images are the main source of information for the geomodeling of oil reservoirs. We propose here several algorithms, implemented in the gOcad geomodeling software, to automate their long and difficult interpretation. First, a continuous approach of the seismic signal enables us to implement a library of seismic attributes. Two methods of combination of these attributes are then studied: one based on the P. C. A. And moving centers, to compute seismic facies; the other, entirely new, based on interpolation maps, to compute meta-attributes. Lastly, two new techniques of automatic picking of seismic horizons are proposed, with editing tools. Faults picking is also approached under a bibliographical angle
