Abstract:
Among paleontology-focused media aimed at children, dinosaurs are really overrepresentated, and based on my observations, the knowledge of other prehistoric species are low. Because of this, I’ve created a concept for a paleontologic children’s book about non-dinosaurs, with illustrations that are adapted for the needs of the target audience. To find out what style is the best suited for the subject, I’ve performed tests and interviews and analysed earlier paleontologic material. This has led me to the conclusion that stylised but still factual and non-abstract illustrations are the most well-suited style for factual literature about paleontology aimed at the target audience, middle school-aged children. This knowledge can be useful for creating books that the target audience are likely to absorb, and it can also be more economic since stylised illustrations is quicker to produce.   Keywords: Illustration, paleontology, pedagogy, children’s factual litterature

Abstract:
This project strived to enable an industrial robot to illustrate arbitrary digitized images on a planar surface. This was accomplished by equipping a robotic manipulator with a drawing utensil. Motion patterns were generated based on digital image processing and fed to the robot for it to imitate the digital version. The robot prints with a technique called pointillism, which implies that solely points are plotted. The result is a tangible black and white representation of the original image. The project was carried out in the Production Engineering facilities at the Royal Institute of Technology. The nature of the project is very research and development oriented as it deals with the creation of a technology to achieve an explicit goal. Continuous development was related to the goal to improve the result from different aspects.

Black, S. "Illumination through illustration : positioning illustration as practice-led research." Thesis, University of the West of England, Bristol, 2014. http://eprints.uwe.ac.uk/23970/.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis represents a practice-led enquiry into contemporary illustration from a UK perspective. This thesis argues for illustration to be recognised as an inductive practice-led research process, within both education and developing criticism. The methods and methodological discussion to support this are derived from the practical aspect of the enquiry. The inductive approach outlined through the methods chapter focuses on the benefits of removing the known outcome from projects, and of illustrators maintaining their own practice alongside commissioned work. The discussion of methods proposes that the commissioned strand of illustration adopts research in illustration as research for illustration. The discussion of performative forms adopted within illustration contributes to the discourse surrounding practice-led research outcomes, in particular Brad Haseman’s performative paradigm for creative arts research. The methodological approach is proposed as a supplementary strand of teaching, which equips illustrators with long-term skills to generate their own projects and employment. These enable illustrators to be flexible and able to adapt to economic and technological changes to industry practice. The thesis examines research processes within illustration which are transferable to different contexts. These include the increase in digital screens and their time-based communications, and the development of three-dimensional objects and environments within the field. The practical work undertaken employed these processes and generated a contribution to the growing discourse surrounding contemporary illustration in the UK. Illustration suffers from a lack of published analysis and as a result its critical discourse is limited. Therefore this study bases its argument upon themes identified within existing illustration commentary, the work of key practitioners, and my studio practice. The focus of research undertaken is mainly on self-initiated projects, but includes commissions where the outcome is not prescribed from the outset. Conversations with Matthew Richardson, Luise Vormittag, Steve Braund, Andrzej Klimowski and Henrik Drescher provide supplementary primary research. The outcome is a contribution to the development of a critical framework derived from practice, which acknowledges the shortcomings of existing frameworks available. The thesis proposes that the concept of time be adopted as a key characteristic of illustration, the discussion of which references Henri Bergson, comics and artist’s books. The utility of time lies in its productive application to both the production and analysis of work. Illustration’s unique negotiation of time through spatial manifestations is used to situate the field in relation to key shifts within culture such as Fredric Jameson’s postmodernism and Nicolas Bourriaud’s altermodernism. The thesis outlines the diversity of temporal achievements within illustration in this regard, and calls for greater recognition of illustration practice and discourse within such discussions of the time we live in.

Jones, Richard David. "The illustration of experience." Thesis, University of Plymouth, 2004. http://hdl.handle.net/10026.1/879.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis documents and describes a research project driven by the creative practice of an illustrator. It examines the proposition that the visual mark can act as a register of experience. The research comprises three bodies of work each of which address a specific issue within the broader context of the research proposition. Knowledge gained through practical exploration is discussed in the context of illustration as well as contemporary systems and models of aesthetic representation. Overview Chapter one discusses the origins of this research project and charts the establishment of a methodology. Working under the preliminary title The Illustration of Conversational Time and Space, the practice explores how human conversation and physical interaction can be recorded and illustrated. This research results in the title being changed to The Illustration of Experience in order to reflect a significant transition in thinking and approach. Chapter two addresses the question how can experience be illustrated? Experiences are first identified and then recorded using an established vocabulary of reflexive gestural marks. These marks are in turn subject to further investigation through a more considered system of reproduction and replication. This pursuit of a mimetic representation, I argue, creates a direct access to the actualities of the experience, as interpreted by the unconscious, and reveals a fundamental connection between phenomenological sensation and learnt aesthetic reasoning. The research proposes that the appearance of an illustration of experience is not directed by the phenomenological interpretation of an event but by the representation process itself. Chapter three challenges the conclusions of chapter two by asking how the unconscious transformation of source into experience can be illustrated? This is achieved by symbolically aligning this metaphysical transformation with the physical movement of an object through space. In doing so, the research attempts to move beyond the conventional codes of aesthetic understanding and questions illustration's traditional associations with referentiality and elucidation. The research concludes that an illustration of experience's epistemological value is heavily dependent upon the interpretation of the viewer. Chapter four expands upon the hypotheses formulated in chapter three by constructing an illustration of experience that is devoid of all mimetic reference. The research confirms the earlier understanding that mimesis is not an inherent quality in all representational art forms, but is in fact determined by the viewer's independent knowledge and understanding of the subject matter presented. It is concluded that while an illustration of experience's epistemological value is dependent upon the viewer's interpretation, interpretation is not itself contingent upon the presence of an explicit mimetic (visual) vocabulary. It has been the intention of the research to challenge existing models of illustrative communication by devising original creative structures that support the illustration of experience. Although this research identifies with a range of contemporary and historical models of enquiry, thorough searches have revealed no previous research in this area. It is therefore hoped that this research will provide a solid base from which future investigations can develop. This research project would serve as an introduction to other researchers trained as illustrators to deeply investigate the meaning and functions of their creative processes in order to reflect back on the discipline of illustration and how it might register experience.

Delgado, Diogo Miguel Melo. "Automated illustration of multimedia stories." Master's thesis, Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, 2010. http://hdl.handle.net/10362/4478.

Full text
Abstract:
Submitted in part fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master in Computer Science
We all had the problem of forgetting about what we just read a few sentences before. This comes from the problem of attention and is more common with children and the elderly. People feel either bored or distracted by something more interesting. The challenge is how can multimedia systems assist users in reading and remembering stories? One solution is to use pictures to illustrate stories as a mean to captivate ones interest as it either tells a story or makes the viewer imagine one. This thesis researches the problem of automated story illustration as a method to increase the readers’ interest and attention. We formulate the hypothesis that an automated multimedia system can help users in reading a story by stimulating their reading memory with adequate visual illustrations. We propose a framework that tells a story and attempts to capture the readers’ attention by providing illustrations that spark the readers’ imagination. The framework automatically creates a multimedia presentation of the news story by (1) rendering news text in a sentence by-sentence fashion, (2) providing mechanisms to select the best illustration for each sentence and (3) select the set of illustrations that guarantees the best sequence. These mechanisms are rooted in image and text retrieval techniques. To further improve users’ attention, users may also activate a text-to-speech functionality according to their preference or reading difficulties. First experiments show how Flickr images can illustrate BBC news articles and provide a better experience to news readers. On top of the illustration methods, a user feedback feature was implemented to perfect the illustrations selection. With this feature users can aid the framework in selecting more accurate results. Finally, empirical evaluations were performed in order to test the user interface,image/sentence association algorithms and users’ feedback functionalities. The respective results are discussed.

Abstract:
Introduction: Although the hackneyed adage "one picture is worth a thousand words" defies proof and begs argument, the basic value of illustration in graphic communications is beyond dispute. Without attempting to put a relative value on illustration as compared with words, we can still be aware of the special effectiveness of images, in accomplishing communication goals. The roots of illustration go hack to prehistoric pictorial art of engraved or painted figures done on stone. The hand print can be interpreted as one of the first attempts at drawing. Prehistoric pictorial art depicted visually what could not be expressed by word or gestures some had religious significance, some the presence of myth, others plainly diadactic, showing daily life, social communication, the magic of the hunt, death, birth, group life and sexual symbolism. Little is known of the vast lapse of time between prehistoric art and the imagery that man devised in the service of developing civilisations at the dawn of history. With steadily increasing demands upon his skills, the artisan's mastery of the tools and materials progressed, so that by the beginning of recorded time he was in possession of the potential elements for printmaking. Yet the importance of communication, as we know it today, only developed centuries later with the motivating force of religion. The print could tell its story to those who could not read or write but could quickly grasp the meaning of a picture.

In my degree project I explore the importance of the void. Many people find emptiness terrifying, and feel like it has to be filled at any price. When everything has to be made more effective, and the dream of perpetual growth is considered the most beautiful one we have, emptiness becomes even more important.  My degree project explores what emptiness is and what it does to us. Furthermore, I examine my personal relationship with emptiness through illustration, as well as illustration through emptiness. It resulted in an illustrative essay about the void, and a booth where one can read it.

Abstract:
To aid diagnosis, treatment planning, and patient education, clinicians require tools to anal- yse and explore the increasingly large three-dimensional (3-D) datasets generated by modern medical scanners. Direct volume rendering is one such tool finding favour with radiologists and surgeons for its photorealistic representation. More recently, volume illustration — or non-photorealistic rendering (NPR) — has begun to move beyond the mere depiction of data, borrowing concepts from illustrators to visually enhance desired information and suppress un- wanted clutter. Direct volume rendering generates images by accumulating pixel values along rays cast into a 3-D image. Transfer functions allow users to interactively assign material properties such as colour and opacity (a process known as classification). To achieve real-time framerates, the rendering must be accelerated using a technique such as 3-D texture mapping on commod- ity graphics processing units (GPUs). Unfortunately, current methods do not allow users to intuitively enhance regions of interest or suppress occluding structures. Furthermore, addi- tional scalar images describing clinically relevant measures have not been integrated into the direct rendering method. These tasks are essential for the effective exploration, analysis, and presentation of 3-D images. This body of work seeks to address the aforementioned limitations. First, to facilitate the research program, a flexible architecture for prototyping volume illustration methods is pro- posed. This program unifies a number of existing techniques into a single framework based on 3-D texture mapping, while also providing for the rapid experimentation of novel methods. Next, the prototyping environment is employed to improve an existing method—called tagged volume rendering — which restricts transfer functions to given spatial regions using a number of binary segmentations (tags). An efficient method for implementing binary tagged volume rendering is presented, along with various technical considerations for improving the classifi- cation. Finally, the concept of greyscale tags is proposed, leading to a number of novel volume visualisation techniques including position modulated classification and dynamic exploration. The novel methods proposed in this work are generic and can be employed to solve a wide range of problems. However, to demonstrate their usefulness, they are applied to a specific case study. Ischaemic heart disease, caused by narrowed coronary arteries, is a leading healthconcern in many countries including Australia. Computed tomography angiography (CTA) is an imaging modality which has the potential to allow clinicians to visualise diseased coronary arteries in their natural 3-D environment. To apply tagged volume rendering for this case study, an active contour method and minimal path extraction technique are proposed to segment the heart and arteries respectively. The resultant images provide new insight and possibilities for diagnosing and treating ischaemic heart disease.

Abstract:
Sedan sommaren 2008 bygger Svevia AB pendeltågstation i Kimstad.
Since the summer of 2008, Svevia AB has been building a train station for commuting traffic at Kimstad. In connection with this project, the local householders’ association wishes to produce a cobble stone monument of the Motalaspännet (Motala golden buckle). The purpose of this is to raise attention to the finding of this unique piece of jewelry, which just happened to take place in Kimstad in the 19th century. The piece itself, which is made from gold and assorted gems, has a diameter of almost 20 cm and is believed to have been crafted in the 14th century, but its history is unclear and its craftsmen and its wearer is unknown. The purpose of this thesis is to present an illustrated monument proposal where materials, placing, emplacement, material quantities and price have all been calculated. As foundation for this thesis lay discussions between the author, the local householders’ association and the author’s supervisor. Initially, the association presented a proposal of their own which have, along with the work of this author, resulted in a final proposal. This thesis contains detailed information about chosen materials as well as aspects of concern studied through the process of investigation, e.g. the risk of vandalism, the geotechnical situation, and questions regarding operation and maintenance. At the moment of writing, the realization of the project is still under debate.

Abstract:
In this dissertation we present an illustration of the most common Hybrid pension plans designs in five countries, which in our opinion can be taken as representatives of the Hybrid pension funds. The aim is to explore why Hybrid pension plans are being considered as an alternative to traditional pension plans. Presently, Hybrid pension plans are not as widely used as Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution plans. In the recent times however, due to an effort to minimize the risks in these traditional plans, the Hybrid pension plan is considered as a less risky option due to its characteristic. In the illustration considered one participant that has just been admitted to a pension plan, and analyse three different types of Hybrid plans and compare them with the traditional designs of DB and DC pension plans, in order to determine from the perspective of the sponsor (employer) of pension plan and from the perspective of the participant (employee), what are the cost/benefits of future shocks on the interest rates, salary increases rate and early retirement. It was observed following the illustrations, that Hybrid pension plans do indeed offer better share of risks for both plan participants and sponsors although with some compromises. We conclude that to improve on retirement plans, sponsors need to consider a Hybrid pension plan design as a replacement for the currently popular Defined Contribution plans. Participants on the other hand will welcome this replacement option because of the possibility of a higher risk protection.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Representing the human body ??? science as social meaning adopts and develops systemic functional social semiotics to analyse the popular science texts, The Human Body, Superhuman, Human Instinct, Brain Story, The Secret Life of Twins and How to Build a Human. These are predominantly produced through the resources of the Wellcome Trust and/or the BBC/TLC (The Learning Channel), and feature celebrity doctors (Robert Winston) or scientists (Susan Greenfield) as presenters. Adopting a modified and expanded systemic functional semiotics derived from Kress and van Leeuwen (1996, 2001), it is argued that these texts share a logic that displaces social/historical time (including broader historical and social struggles) by constructing the apparent timelessness of middle-class families, by metaphor and abstraction. Central to the temporalities of these programmes is the notion of ???going back??? to the familial in which conscious (patriarchal) time is seen as ???male??? and the unconscious timeless is seen as ???female???. Second, the penetrative digital modes of the programmes imagine different, if conventional, genders, emphasising the interior and inertial female. The popular medical science discourses highlighted in the analysis constitute an unconscious set of taken-for-granted socio-political contexts in which medical and bioscientific knowledge is paraded and celebrated. Narrative resolution of the contradictions inherent in the contextual refrain of contemporary global capitalism is largely achieved through time by the semiotic realisation of ???going back??? to evolutionary, genetic, and (hence to) essential time and to abstracted spatial metaphors. The production origins (British, multi-national) of the factual science documentary prefigure or pre-structure the genre???s conservative colonising discourse around gender, ???race??? and evolution that are developed as social, political or even military metaphors.

Abstract:
The aim of our research is to analyse the role played by the images in the understanding of the text and in the perception of the orientation of space by the reader of books in physics. We have studied in particular the role of Ampère's observer law (ROA) in the elaboration, the description and the way the material is explained in those books. We also show that since the XVIIth century to nowadays, figures are part of the literature and of the scientific knowledge in physics and that for that reason, it evolved in a way we would like to recount. Our analysis of classical physics books since its birth until XXth century is organised around the following questions : How does one orient the three axes of the orthonormal frame which orients the whole space and how does one handle the vector quantities with respect to it ? How do the figures contribute to the solution of problems and to the elaboration as well as to the transmission of knowledge ? This work contains in addition to an introduction, a conclusion and a bibliography, three chapters entitled : 1) The types of figures on physics; 2) The orientation of space the use of ROA; 3) The orientation of space and the role of figures in electromagnetism and mechanics

Abstract:
On what normative grounds can the ethnic Turkish minority in Germany be denied political membership? Over 7% of the German population is made up of foreign residents, mostly ethnic Turks, with vague social rights and no political groups. This thesis is an attempt at uncovering the developments that have lead to this situation by examining the history of German citizenship within the context of a large disenfranchised ethnic minority since the end of WWII. Finally, this thesis examines the latest legislation on German Nationality as an example of deepening ethno-cultural self-understanding institutionalized by the state that results in the discrimination of millions of foreign residents based solely on nationality.

Abstract:
The following essay is a thesis in Information Design with orientation in Informative illustration. The collaboration with the TT News Agency, which forms the basis of the work, presupposes that an information graphic about the history of smoking is produced, which occurs in connection with the new tobacco law coming into force on July 1, 2019. The purpose of the thesis is to examine how the formation of image manners can affect the historical connection to an illustration, and examine whether this can contribute to a perceived development of time. The aim of the enquiry is to explore whether it is possible to create a "timeline" without a line, using manners.   Through data collection and theories in semiotics, visual rhetoric, cognitive visualization and perception, as well as previous experiences throughout the education in Informative illustration, concept and design proposals were created. Methods used in the thesis are image analysis and testing, which took the form of an internet survey. The former was implemented to understand how the manners of the illustration should look like to create an affiliation to the stated time periods. The latter was carried out to investigate whether the target group experiences the connection between the illustrations and the time periods, and to investigate whether the illustrations together contribute to a historical development. The result of the study shows that manners can contribute with a historical connection, but the illustrations with a more distinctive appearance are considered easier to interpret. The result also concluded that object´s, such as clothes and jewelry, contributes to the understanding of the illustrations historical affiliation. Manners can also contribute to a perceived historical development, whereupon 96 percent of the survey participants perceived this.

McKinley, Joanne. "Volume Visualisation Via Variable-Detail Non-Photorealistic Illustration." Thesis, University of Waterloo, 2002. http://hdl.handle.net/10012/1104.

Full text
Abstract:
The rapid proliferation of 3D volume data, including MRI and CT scans, is prompting the search within computer graphics for more effective volume visualisation techniques. Partially because of the traditional association with medical subjects, concepts borrowed from the domain of scientific illustration show great promise for enriching volume visualisation. This thesis describes the first general system dedicated to creating user-directed, variable-detail, scientific illustrations directly from volume data. In particular, using volume segmentation for explicit abstraction in non-photorealistic volume renderings is a new concept. The unique challenges and opportunities of volume data require rethinking many non-photorealistic algorithms that traditionally operate on polygonal meshes. The resulting 2D images are qualitatively different from but complementary to those normally seen in computer graphics, and inspire an analysis of the various artistic implications of volume models for scientific illustration.

Abstract:
The idea that the state should be neutral between diverse and conflicting conceptions of the good has occupied centre-stage in liberal political circles during the past two decades. Neutrality is a term of art and therefore not surprisingly it comes in a variety of forms with potentially different interpretations. Two such versions frequently invoked by philosophers are what are called justificatory and consequential neutrality. On the former view the state is held to be neutral if the justification of its policies is independent of any reference to particular conceptions of the good. Abstracting from conceptions of the good does not however repudiate the advantages that some of them will have over others under one policy rather than another. On the other hand, a state is neutral consistent with consequential neutrality only if it can guarantee equal satisfaction for the protagonists of the various conceptions of the good. Accordingly the measures of the state reflect the prospects for different conceptions of the good. The first chapter argues the case for neutrality as a constituent virtue of liberalism by addressing one of its main adversaries, perfectionism. In the second chapter I consider the two forms of neutrality more closely and delineate impartiality as the central kernel of the doctrine of political neutrality. The last two chapters consider some of the implications of impartialist neutrality. The chapter on distributive equality concludes that neutrality of an impartialist variety goes far beyond the conventional view that neutrality could be satisfied by the equal distribution of either welfare or resources. The final chapter draws on the controversy that followed the publication of The Satanic Verses as an example to chart out the implications of an impartialist programme for practical cases. The conclusion drawn from such an exercise is again the perhaps unsettling one that a neutral resolution of conflicts invariably yields at least partially unsavoury outcomes for the conflicting parties, but that its merits lie elsewhere.

Abstract:
It aims at studying how the veiled meaning, i. E. A secondary meaning, a veiled thruth behind a first meaning, operates in the gist of allegory. Thus the chosen corpus is delibarately disperse and branches off both in art and litterature. It purports to show the status of allegory at critical times and how the veiled meaning oscillates between veiled and unveiled, two terms which allegory, a trope always in a moving alterity, cannot do without

Abstract:
The Apocalypse is : when time stops still; the time we have all been waiting for; the end of time; when time's bluff is called; and when time is made and unmade. Re-described and repeated for ever, the Apocalypse forces us to accept the imminent. Sometimes it seems to deny us the finite nature of our being, and at other times its signals our fall. Using the currently accepted principles used in the analysis of myths, this study underlines the inherent strength of repeating symbols and icons, and shows thereby how the story can assume the role of intermediary between man and his world. The Apocalypse provides a never ending supply of interpretations, and is a catalyst for the anguish of us mortals; an anguish which the 20th century has magnified hugely

As time progresses that promote the popularity of mass media, the arrival of digital era, the rise of the art licensing, which make illustrators works can have more opportunities to receive attention, but it also brings many challenges for them. The research topic is based five Taiwan’s illustration agency as the research object that explore the relationship between agents and illustrator that through field work, semi-structured interview and data collection analysis, therefore, this study to explore how Taiwan’s agent plan to develop as the primary core, research consists of three themes: first, to explore the development context, difficulties and improve method of the illustration agent plan in Taiwan; second, to summarize the role function of Taiwan’s broker and Taiwan’s illustration agency; third, cross discuss literature, field work records, interviews that summarize during the creative output that illustrator and agents who have respective attribution of responsibilities. For the illustration agent plan in Taiwan, this study made the following conclusions: first, establish agents plan that there is positive impact on the development of illustration industry, but we still need to put in the resource from the government and academia; second, agents or agency only can help illustrator easier to enter and be based on role of the industry, but whether illustrator who personal brand would be sustainable that have to rely on illustrators continue to improve themselves and enhance their competitiveness; third, government, industry, academia at illustrator industry that tripartite lack of communication and consensus. Thus, illustrator industry in terms of sustainable development is a hindrance; fourth, due to the different personality of each illustrator, if only by a single broker model does not comply with the different needs of Taiwan’s illustrator, so Taiwan has less a single economic model to operate to creators brokerage firms; fifth, to crack the myth about the whole broker contract that have high guarantee but have low elasticity which provides to order whole broker contract after illustrator and agents have understanding of each other; sixth, Taiwan’s market illustration product’s value and meaning is not definite at present; seventh, agents and illustrator should be toward the goal about benefit and common, rather than damage each other the trust relationship.

The object of this article is to discuss the possibilities of illustration agent between editor and illustrator. There are three main subjects in this study as follows: 1.To understand the cooperation between editors and illustrators. 2. To know the point of view about agent between editors and illustrators. 3. To discuss the possibility of agent system setting in the publishing industry. According to study results, it is difficult to set up agency system in the publishing industry for three main reasons as below:1. The market of publishing is not wide enough in Taiwan. 2. Taiwanese publishing companies are used to traditional methods. 3. It is difficult to establish the relationship of trust between agent and illustrator. Therefore, copyright authorization is a better way for Taiwanese agency system. It can be concluded from this paper that: (1) The editors are more powerful than illustrators to make decisions. (2) Both editors and illustrators agree that agency system will bring more advantages to their job and increase their work efficiency. (3) Illustrators and publisher have their own cooperative method, but picture’s copyright is a new field that they need agent to do. (4) The agency system is a better way for new illustrators to join this market. (5) It is difficult to train an agent in Taiwan publishing industry.

Abstract With the rise of social networking platforms, online information has gradually become a part of the public life. In the era of ubiquitous smartphone ownership, the public can get more information and knowledge via the Internet anytime, anywhere. The Internet has also permeated the people''s lives. The changes brought by the technological advances have also accelerated the advent of the commercial illustration era, and the rise of the social networking platforms has lowered the creator screening mechanism and publishing thresholds. Illustrators have sprung up like spring sprouts and stages have opened for many creators without an avenue to showcase their creativities. Art has quietly embraced the daily life of the public and set off a wave of illustration microbrands. Among the many forms of expressions, illustrations are very flexible in terms of commercial applications, and their image expressions often leave a deep impression. Illustrations have gradually gained appreciation. With the rapid growth of online platforms and social software, the emergence of new-type brands not only have changed the consumption patterns of the public, they have also lowered the technical bar needed to establish illustration brands and transcended the operating models of the traditional brands. Illustrators have taken the advantages of low cost and highly efficient broadcasts to make brand operations easier. In this study, the researcher will adopt the literature review method to understand brand developments, the origin of illustrations, the definition and classification of illustrations, the rise of microbrands, and the business marketing differences between traditional brands and microbrands; analyze the new-pattern operating models; and then use the case analysis method to summarize the microbrand operation methods, brand establishment history, and development stabilization paths of four illustrators. Moreover, the researcher will further explain the microbrand operation models, establish the core concepts of creating a microbrand, organize the marketing channels and sales platforms frequently used during microbrand operation processes, explain the development processes and business history of illustration microbrands, and establish a model of development for illustration microbrands. The researcher will also showcase the illustration microbrand results in Creative Expo Taiwan and record the results in this study to provide reference for those interested in establishing an illustration microbrand.

Humans are born with ESP (Extrasensory perception), as is often called sixth sense. However, as our age advances and knowledge accumulates, the intrinsic intuition will disappear gradually. Sixth sense will affect our decision when we are making a decision in our daily life. Nevertheless, most of us ignore the messages from the inner hearts. With the advent of New Age, spiritual awakening, the health of body and soul, Qigong, reincarnation, and so on, have integrated into our life. Different ideological factions and books emerge on the market. Most of these books are published in sets, instead of one single book form. They also contain huge amounts of information and are expressed mainly in words. In view of these, this illustration collection is structured on the basis of the information collected from various book sources and presented by illustrations to explain the interrelation between the human brain, the spiritual potential and the universe. The main aim of the study is to integrate the connections between science of the mind, the potential and the universe, and also showcase the realm of the spiritual potential as well as the source of the universe.

Silva, Maria Cármen Gomes. "Giffen goods : an illustration." Master's thesis, 2019. http://hdl.handle.net/10400.14/29174.

Abstract:
Over time, there has been a growth in the literature exploring preferences that can allow for Giffen goods to appear; most of the times, they occur under unusual circumstances, such as corner solutions or non-strictly increasing utility functions. One of these cases, in particular, finds them by eliminating the substitution effect, and proposes a generalization that might yield the same result. I explore, mostly through numerical simulations, how in this generalization, which features “well-behaved” preferences and continuously differentiable indifference curves, Giffen goods appear through a progressive reduction and, in the limit, elimination of the substitution effect provided that the good in question is an inferior good, and not necessarily being accompanied by a strengthening of the income effect. In addition, I develop an alternative set of preferences, that share the same original case as their limit case, and illustrate how Giffen goods appear in a similar manner.
