Abstract:
his background of this research has emerged from various facts and myths about the Illuminati, after Dan Brawn published the popular novel Da Vinci Code. The Illuminati is a secret society founded in 1776 by Adam Weishaupt. Methods used for this research is historical methods, that consists of heuristics, critics, interpretation and historiography, because the aspects of the study are past and related to various archives or old documents. The main problem of this research is to conduct a historical study of the founding of the Illuminati by Weishaupt from the historical perspective. This research presents a brief biography of Adam Weishaupt who was a German academic that influenced by the thoughts of the Age of Enlightenment. Weishaupt had a vision of replacing the government and power of the Catholic Church with a new government. To accomplish this political mission, Weishaupt formed a secret society by recruiting elite groups and intellectuals as members, reaching up to 2,000-3,000 people. In line with this mission, the Illuminati were supported by Protestant princes, Reformed (Lutherans and Calvinists), German and European nobles. Financially, Weishaupt was supported by the family of the banking millionaire, Rothschild. Weishaupt also adopted the Freemasonry system into the Illuminati in terms of secrecy, concealment, membership levels and other matters. Weishaupt's political goal orientation made him also learned from the Jesuits about organizing political missions. Weishaupt and Illuminati should be suspected of having an urgent role in the occurrence of the great events of the French Revolution.Kata kunci : Illuminati, Pencerahan, Freemasonry, Yahudi, Okultisme.

Abstract:
This research discusses a literary work by Dan Brown, namely a novel entitled Angels and Demons which was first published in 2000. Dan Brown is an American writer who was popular in the 2000s. Angels and Demons is a novel that tells readers about the struggle of a professor in solving an Illuminati symbol puzzle in a murder case that occurred at the Conseil Europeen pour la Recherche Nucleaire and the Vatican. This novel tells the story of a symbology professor, Robert Langdon, who tries to solve the mystery of the Illuminati symbol in a murder case committed by the Illuminati (an ancient underground fraternity group) who tried to destroy the Vatican. Where he got help from Vettra (adopted son of the murdered professor at CERN, Conseil Europeen pour la Recherche Nucleaire) who is also a researcher from the Conseil Europeen pour la Recherche Nucleaire. In analyzing the problems found, the author uses objective theory as a tool to solve problems. Through the use of this theory, the novel Angels and Demons becomes an object for analysis. To support objective theory, structural theory is used in this research. This theory is used to analyze the structures contained in the novel. This research will focus on analyzing the story in the novel. The approach used is a semiotic approach as a way to analyze the signs or symbols in the novel, and to connect the story and symbols in the novel with existing science and reality. After analyzing the novel, three main factors were found in the mystery of the Illuminati symbol. The first factor is the mystery of the emergence of the Illuminati in the case of the murder of a scientist with an Illuminati symbol stamped on his body. The second factor is the mystery of the Illuminati symbols that appeared in the murder case, and the last is about the motive for the theft and murder case that occurred among the Pope candidates who will take part in the Pope's selection at the Vatican.

Abstract:
Robert Anton Wilson and Robert Shea both have been influenced by anarchism, Discordianism and conspiracy theories. They both use conspiracy theories about Illuminati, knights Templars, Freemasons and New World Order, anti-semitism, end time prophecies of the Bible and world domination plans etc. Their main genre of writing is conspiracy fiction. Conspiracy fiction is a sub-genre of thriller fiction. Both the authors have filled their works with various types of conspiracy theories and thrilling feel. The focus of the present research paper is on the use of conspiracy theories in The Illuminatus! Trilogy. Robert Anton Wilson and Robert Shea made this trilogy one of the best works in the field of conspiracy fiction. Although the writers have used several of them, in the present paper only use of the New World Order conspiracy theories and secret societies, especially the Illuminati conspiracy theories will be analyzed. The study of conspiracy theories is an emerging field and little work has been done on this topic. So, the present paper will enrich the information about conspiracy theories and conspiracy fiction.

Abstract:
This Master's thesis analyses the connection between the Illuminati ideology and the sociopolitical ideals contained in pre-classical works---contemporary to the existence of the order---of Johann Wolfgang Goethe and Friedrich Schiller. The first chapter examines the creation, the development and the eventual collapse of the Illuminati Secret Society (Geheimbund der Illuminaten) founded in 1776 by Adam Weishaupt in the context of the Enlightenment. The second chapter explores the ideological similarities between the young Goethe and this secret society through the analysis of his works Gotz von Berlichingen (1771--1773), Egmont (1775--1784) and Der Gross Cophta (1791). The third chapter expounds Schiller's ideological opinion of the Illuminati through Don Carlos (1787), and discusses their republican visions of freedom and human rights. The conclusion integrates the findings made in each chapter and demonstrates, through both authors' discussed works, the similar ideals of both authors and Illuminism.

Rose, Kayla. "Illuminating Ireland : illuminated addresses and the material culture of Irish civic and national identity in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries." Thesis, Ulster University, 2014. http://ethos.bl.uk/OrderDetails.do?uin=uk.bl.ethos.627629.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis explores the material culture of illuminated addresses in nineteenth and early twentieth-century Ireland as commemorative objects which concurrently exhibited Irish and British identity. It presents a history of the modern revival of illumination using the theoretical frameworks of material culture, art history, cultural history, anthropology and archaeology in order to determine the cultural, historical and socio-political value of illuminated addresses within the contexts of Romantic Nationalism, the Celtic Revival and modernity. The thesis reinvestigates the history of the revival of illumination in modern Ireland as it relates to the formation and expression of civic and national identity in the form of the illuminated address, and interrogates, as a case study, the art and printing firm of Marcus Ward & Co. and its chief artist and designer John Vinycomb within the larger civic development of Victorian Belfast, detailing their contributions to art, commerce and industry. As physical manifestations of Victorian and immediate post-Victorian and early modern identity, illuminated addresses were decorative, commemorative objects presented to people for significant achievements through public ceremony. The research questions associated with this thesis explore the material culture of illuminated addresses and conclude that illuminated addresses embodied, and were a key material part of expressing, Irish civic and national identity from the 1860s to the period immediately following Irish independence and partition, forming a major contribution to the study of material culture and art history in Ireland. It serves further as a recovery project in its construction of a history of forgotten objects.

Abstract:
That error could be of interest to Freemasons and Illuminati as a topic becomes evident when one sees it in the context of concepts such as prejudice, ignorance, and gullibility. The perfection of the human being was understood as the detachment from prejudices – from errors –, as overcoming ignorance and as a fight against gullibility. In 1785 there was a discussion among the Illuminati of Gotha about how one should understand error. Prince August of Saxe-Gotha transfers Voltaire’s two types of imagination to two types of errors, using the distinction made by the physicist Charles Du Fay, who distinguished resin electricity (électricité résineuse) with its negative charge from glass electricity (électricité vitreuse) with its positive charge. So August suggests that there are positive and negative errors: the positive errors are attractive, they attract. In this case the cause of error lies on our side, on the side of the subjects: because of certain defects in the knower, facts are not correctly recognized. The negative errors, on the other hand, repel: there it is due to the nature of the representations of the facts themselves, which have pitfalls or are distorted by hallucinations, that we go wrong.

Full text
Abstract:
The color constancy hypothesis predicts that the color appearance associated with a vector of cone responses shifts as the visual system adjusts to changes in illumination. We measure color appearance using a classification paradigm1 and verify that changes in illumination do induce shifts in color appearance. Because there are many illuminant spectral power distributions, it is not possible to measure the shifts induced by all of them. If color constancy is to be a useful guide to the prediction of color appearance, the shift induced by any illuminant must be predicted by the shifts induced by a small set of illuminants. We show that when the set of surfaces encountered by the visual system is restricted, the filtering action of the cone spectral responsivities strongly limits the illuminant variation that can be detected at the level of the cone responses. The illuminant variations that are not filtered by the cones form a linear subspace. We test whether the shifts induced by illuminants in this subspace can be predicted from the shifts induced by each of the subspace’s basis illuminants.

Abstract:
Physical-optics modeling of EUVL imaging is done with accurate descriptions of the illumination. Two EUVL optical systems are described in this paper: (1) a Schwarzchild camera, illuminated with a laser-plasma source (LPS) and a simple illuminator, and (2) a ring-field camera, illuminated with an LPS and a high-efficiency condenser.

Abstract:
Both color constancy and chromatic induction were studied in a computer-driven color display that simulated an array of Munsell samples (25% reflectance) that was illuminated by either standard white light (D65) or various colored illuminants. The samples were separated by an achromatic grid (100% reflectance) that could be selectively illuminated. Three conditions were studied: (a) constancy, with samples and grid illuminated by the same source; (b) induction, with colored light confined to the grid and white light to the samples; (c) dark grid, with the source illuminating the samples only.

Abstract:
Bilinear models of low dimensionality can accurately model interactions of naturally occurring illuminant and reflectance spectra. There is, therefore, a basis for an observer to recover surface characteristics independently of the illuminant. Much previous work has assumed knowledge that certain colors corresponded to surfaces sharing a common illuminant. Such information would not be available, however, to a low level process analyzing the possibility that an χ-junction in the image arose from a colored shadow crossing a reflection boundary. Bilinear models that use different basis functions for illuminants and reflectances are necessarily asymmetrical: the predicted appearance of a red surface under yellow light is generally different than that of a yellow surface under red light. Because of this, two analyses must be performed at each χ-junction, corresponding to each of the limbs of the χ being considered the reflectance boundary while the other is the illumination boundary. Symmetric models may be constructed by using a single set of basis functions to model both illumination and reflectance spectra. This reduction is advantageous in the description of color transparency with more than two surfaces, since instead of surfaces and illuminants interacting to form a color, everything may simply be represented as a color.

Abstract:
Theoretical work on color constancy has dwelt on the problem of estimating surface and illuminant chromatic properties in the case where a set of surfaces is viewed under a single illuminant1-5. Maloney and Wandell4 used linear models to describe variation among surface reflectance functions6-9 and variation among illuminants10,11 to establish a general result for this situation: a trichromatic system viewing surfaces under a single unknown illuminant that is represented by three color descriptors can recover two color- constant descriptors per surface. Their remarkable result is incomplete, however. First, it is desirable to recover three or more descriptors per surface, for neither surface color percepts12 nor surface color properties6-9 are described adequately by two-dimensional models. Second, one would prefer the recovery of surface reflectance descriptors to be independent of the choice of a particular model of illumination. The model that describes accurately the daylight illumination environment10,11, for instance, will generally fail to describe other illumination environments such as those found indoors or that presented by the red, green and blue lights used in Land's demonstrations with Mondrians1.

Abstract:
Procedures for recovering surface reflectance properties from reflected lights that rely on a fixed model of the way that illuminants may vary will fail if a scene’s illuminant is not described accurately by the fixed model. A color constancy algorithm that is designed to work best in outdoor, daylight environments, for instance, may not work well indoors under fluorescent light sources. A recovery procedure must adapt to a change in illumination environment if it is to maintain color constancy. An analysis of the chromatic motion in reflected lights shows that trichromatic bilinear models can use quantum-catch data to track the illumination environment and maintain color constancy. The adaptation procedure can be extended to accommodate both unknown illumination environments and unknown reflectance environments.

Abstract:
Viewing the change in reflected lights caused by changing illumination provides abundant information concerning illuminant and surface color properties.1 A bilinear model describes, in simple viewing situations, how the quantum catches of a p-chromatic visual system are related to illuminant spectral power distributions and surface reflectance functions drawn from m- and n-dimensional linear models, respectively. Such models can be used to help recover illuminants and surface reflectances from quantum catch data when the visual system is presented v views of a set of s surfaces, where each view corresponds to a distinct illuminant. The choices of p,m,n,v, and s for which color structure can be recovered from chromatic motion follow from analysis of a set of conditions that a bilinear model must meet; single-view theory follows as a special case.

Flow cytometry is an analytical technique that examines cells suspended in fluids. It uses a built-in laser beam to illuminate individual cells as the fluid passes through. The illumination causes fluorescence and scattered lights, which are emitted and reflected from the examining cell. These lights are split and filtered onto detectors and converted into electrical signals.

Abstract:
This study evaluates the visual performance of four intersection lighting designs and five midblock crosswalk lighting designs along with two pedestrian safety countermeasures (rectangular rapid flashing beacons and flashing signs) at three light levels. The study involved a pedestrian detection task, which was completed at night on a realistic roadway intersection and a midblock crosswalk. The results from the study showed that driver nighttime visual performance at intersection and midblock crosswalks was influenced by the lighting design and light level. Intersections should be illuminated to an average horizontal illuminance of 14 lux (1.3 fc). This light level ensures optimal visibility of pedestrians regardless of the lighting design (or luminaire layout) of the intersection. The average horizontal illuminance of 14 lux (1.3 fc) also increases the visibility of pedestrians when glare from oncoming vehicles is present. The 14 lux (1.3 fc) average horizontal illuminance is valid for all lighting designs evaluated except the lighting design that illuminated the exits of the intersection. When the exits of the intersection are illuminated, an average horizontal illuminance of 24 lux (2.2 fc) is needed to offset the disability glare from opposing vehicles. Midblock crosswalks should be illuminated to an average vertical illuminance of 10 lux (0.9 fc) to ensure optimal pedestrian visibility. Where overhead lighting is available, midblock crosswalk lighting designs that render the pedestrian in positive contrast are recommended. Where overhead lighting is not available, crosswalk illuminators can be used to illuminate midblock crosswalks. At night, pedestrian crossing treatments such as rectangular rapid flashing beacons and flashing signs should not be used for pedestrian visibility at midblock crosswalks. Pedestrians crossing treatments should be used in conjunction with overhead lighting or crosswalk illuminators at the established vertical illuminance to ensure optimal pedestrian visibility at midblock crosswalks.
