Abstract:
Objective: In the United States, interest in quality of life and social disabilities associated with mental illne intensified in the wake of the deinstitutionalization of the late '60s abd '70s. Although mental health professionals in the United States have begun to recognize the importance of quality of life considerations to patient management and treatment outcomes, review of the literature shows there is minimal research in mental health on this important topic. As a result, little theoretical or methodological progres has been made. Quality of life has not been clearly conceptulized or defined and there are no agreed-upon standards or criteria for measurement. This presentation will; (a) review important conceptual issues in quality of life research, (b) discuss the benefits of and obstacles to incorporating consumer values in judgments of quality of life, and (c) present data from Wisconsin Quality of Life Index (W-QLI; Becker et al., 1993) to illustrate the usefulness of a consumer responsive model of quality of life and the importance of incorporating consumer values in the assessment of quality of life of persons with schizophrenia. Methods: The W-QLI was administered to a convenience sample of psychiatric outpatients with a DSM-IV diagnosis of schizophrenia. The W-QLI is a self-administered individually preference-weighted index that measures nine separted domains encompassing quality of life. The W-QLI scoring method results in spearted scores for each domain and allows for the relationships among separate domains to be studied. The mine separted domains include; (a) satisfaction level for different objective quality of life indicators, (b) occupational activities, (c) psychological well-being,(d) physical health, (c) social relations, (f) economics, (g) activities of daily living, (h) symptoms, and (i) goal attainment. Results: study findings are consistent with previous theory and empirical domains. Results show that while consumers' and clinicians' judgments of outcome corelated, there were important differences. Clincians systematically rated functiion higher and social relations lower that did consumers, and there were significant differences in consumer and provider goals for improvement with treatment. Overall ratings of quality of life and funciton are only weakly correlated with psychopathology. The findings support the importance and feasibility of incorporating consumer values and judgments of quality of life in outcome measurement.

Abstract:
Abstract This paper deals with the distribution of adnominal ille in Late Latin. While the literature on the topic is substantial, the aim of the paper is not to seek attestations of ille which foreshadow its article or article-like function, but simply to look for some functional properties that allow for its future development as a marker of definiteness. Moreover, this paper aims at considering the distribution of ille in the context of the propositional structure taken as a whole. The Peregrinatio Aetheriae is first analysed, as a privileged text for looking at a redundant use of adnominal ille. In this text, the frequency of occurrences of adnominal ille appears to be linked to the frequency of presentative structures: in particular, ille is often found within post-verbal noun phrases which, even while fulfilling the subject function, combine a predicative and/or rhematic function with the argumental one, precisely as in existential and presentative structures. The hypothesis may thus be suggested that ille occurs as a marker of nominative nominals which occur in “atypical” combinations of syntactic and pragmatic functions and in correlation with a marked linear order. In a second step, this analysis is checked against a further corpus, drawn from St. Augustine’s Confessiones where, again, ille is found either as a marker of nominals which, in addition to functioning as arguments, have a predicative and rhematic value, or as a marker of nominals which occur in propositional structures where other nominal (or adjectival) elements are involved as predicates as well.

Abstract:
Device-to-device (D2D) underlaid cellular networks are regarded as an emerging network structure in the 5G systems. We study the covert communication of such networks consisting of a base station BS, a cellular user Alice, a D2D pair with a transmitter Dt and a receiver Dr , and a warden W illie. To conduct the covert communication, Alice adopts the truncated channel inversion power control (CIPC) to hide itself from W illie, where the received signal power at BS is fixed avoiding channel estimation for decoding Alice’s signal. Meanwhile, the interference generated by the D2D pair reusing the spectrum of Alice is exploited to confuse W illie. To understand the fundamental covert rate performance in the considered network, we first provide a theoretical model for characterizing the detection error probability of W illie as well as the effective covert rate at BS under the truncated CIPC scheme. Based on the main results, we then explore the effective covert rate maximization under the constraint of the detection error probability to identify the optimal truncated CIPC scheme designing and interference management. Finally, extensive numerical results are presented to illustrate the impacts of the truncated CIPC and interference from Dt on the covert performance.

Abstract:
Summary:Does the system of anaphorics and deictics already change in the first part of sixth century? In this study we have examined the uses of is, ille and ipse in a few of the Admonitiones of Caesarius Arelatensis. The data have been compared with these of Cicero's Pro Milone. Caesarius uses all the forms, but we note that ille is more frequent. This deictic is expanding to the detriment of is. Also it appears that the use as attributive adjective is much less frequent in Caesarius than in Cicero. What is the reason why the use of ille will develop in late common Latin? The meaning of this deictic is very extensive: it points out to a breaking, an innovation or an opposition. It's true when the speaker continues to say words he hopes he expresses something new. Furthermore the meaning of ille is not very far from ipse which means: “He /she /it and nobody /nothing else”.

Abstract:
Focusing on sensations of not feeling well or illness complaints that have not yet been given a diagnosis by a health professional, this research asks how children in an adult-centered and pluralistic context of health care negotiate their illness experiences at home and school. The ways in which children actively construct, frame and deal with their illness, and the role their social position (gender and social class) in the Ghanaian context plays in this process is explored. The research highlights how children intentionally navigate relations and interactions with adults, make use of their social and physical environment to contest, self-diagnose, self-medicate and to deal with their sensations of not feeling well.

Abstract:
Focusing microcirculation in critically ill patients offers a physiologic approach to their management: an impaired microcirculation, as the “motor” of tissues hypoperfusion and organ dysfunction, should represent the target of interventions, especially when the restoring of the standard macrohemodynamic variables appears to be insufficient to improve the patient outcome. Despite this huge potential, microcirculatory monitoring still remains a research tool. The present work, a collection of diverse research articles, was conducted trying to build a bridge between the research setting and the clinical practice. It includes the validation study of the third-generation technology for microcirculatory imaging, the Incident Dark Field illumination (IDF), providing a comparison with the gold standard. Moreover, it gives a deep insight on the technical issues in collecting appropriate imaging and on their impact on the data interpretation, focusing the attention on the operator experience and patient’s cooperation. The core of the project is represented by the MicroDAIMON, a prospective observational study with one of the largest databases of microcirculatory data in critically ill patients to date: it shows the association between microcirculatory abnormalities at the baseline and mortality. Daily monitoring was also performed with Near InfraRed Spectroscopy of skeletal muscle associated to a vascular occlusion test in order to evaluate the dynamic response and reserve capacity of the microcirculation to an ischemic disturbance. A subgroup analysis, focuses the attention on trauma patients, showing that the persistence of microcirculatory abnormalities in presence of normalized macro-hemodynamic variables could predict a major risk of development of organ dysfunction. Finally, with an open label pilot study, the effect of ketanserin in recruiting a dysfunctional microcirculation was investigate, trying to propose a pharmacologic approach to microcirculatory abnormalities.

Abstract:
National and international epidemiological data show a general male disadvantage in health, and the dominant explanation for men’s poorer health status usually points to men’s belief and behaviours in relation to health and illness: men, it is suggested, disregard health and mismanage illness in order to fulfil social expectations around masculinity. The present research responds to a call for empirical studies that explore men’s health and illness practices not through biomedical or behavioural explanations, which tend to homogenize and oversimplify men’s experiences, rather with a critical approach that would allow to go beyond the idea that “masculinity is dangerous to men’s health.” Masculinity is here intended not as a fixed, universal, biological trait, but rather as a configuration of practices that are accomplished in social action and, therefore, can differ according to the specific gender relations existing in different social settings. This critical perspective allowed studying men’s experiences of health and illness by taking into account also its complex relation with gender construction, but also with structural differences and relational contexts. This research explored, through the conduction of 40 in-depth interviews, the experiences of men living with an intrusive chronic illness, autoimmune diabetes. This condition requires a series of self- management practices in everyday life that could be considered as emasculating (e.g. eating healthy, body discipline and self-monitoring) and that may pose specific challenges to dominant assumptions of masculinity such as bodily strength, control of the body and of emotions, independence and resistance to pain, and for this reason it has been considered as particularly appropriate for exploring the complex intertwining of chronic illness and gender. More specifically, the analysis focused on three areas: namely, the impact of chronic illness in the everyday life; the multiple ways of “doing” masculinity in the context of the “doing” of autoimmune diabetes; and, lastly, the impact of diabetes and of the medicalization of male sexual health on sexuality and intimacy practices. Overall, the empirical material allowed for great insight into men’s experiences of illness and depicted a complex picture, very different from the monolithic description offered by the majority of studies previously conducted on this issue.

Balbaligo, Y. E. "Ceramics and social practices at Ille Cave, Philippines." Thesis, University College London (University of London), 2015. http://discovery.ucl.ac.uk/1465410/.

Full text
Abstract:
This research uses ceramic analysis to investigate variations in technological practices in the Philippines, and the relationships with pottery traditions previously reported for wider Southeast Asia. The thesis focuses on an examination of the earthenware ceramics from the multi-period burial and occupation site of Ille Cave and Rockshelter, and nearby cave sites in northern Palawan, Philippines. Previous work on Philippine ceramics has used surface decorations to discuss grand narratives of human movement. This thesis argues that technology, rather than decoration or style, is a better indicator of people and social practice. While critiquing these dominant interpretations, this thesis seeks to build on previous work by demonstrating how differences in ceramic technology can be interpreted as indicators of distinct learning traditions and learning networks, suggesting different communities of practice. The range of techniques used to prepare the clay, form and decorate the ceramics, were analysed macroscopically in hand specimen, and microscopically by petrography, stereoscopy, and scanning electron microscopy to reconstruct the chaîne opératoire which shows difference in technological practice. Results indicate that most of the ceramics were locally made and used as votive offerings rather than as grave goods, jar burials or for ritual breakage, during the Developed Metal Age. The cave sites were returned to as a fixed point in the landscape to commemorate the dead. It is suggested that the variability in ceramics coupled with the mortuary practices were expressions of a group’s social complexity and cultural identity. The ceramic variability shows distinct cultural pluralism which demonstrates a diversity of social groups in a small locale. Although some commonalities in pottery production and decorative techniques with those in wider Southeast Asia are discussed, the current lack of dating evidence or comparative ceramic technology studies makes it difficult to interpret the direction and timing of large scale cultural change. This thesis, however, presents methods and theories for how this research can be developed.

Abstract:
As a Breton department, Ille-et-Vilaine suffered the uphe avals linked with the counterrevolutionary troubles. Even though bonaparte and his successors strived to restaure confidence amid the population, the scars of that civil war remain visible. The political tendencies of the people in the department remain very violent. Similarly, the way of life engendered by the chouan cause was never totally abandonned and the hopes and fears of an uprising remain constant throughout the first half of the 19th century. Because of this, the civil and military authorities are frequently challenged and sometimes even, more or less openly, fought. The study of all these challenges to authority leads one to consider that the population of ille-et-vilaine is one whose behaviour, tempered by benefits from the revolution, has remained true to the ancien regime. Because of this, it has at its disposal numerous means of slowing down or sometimes preventing the enforcement of government decisions

Abstract:
Çalışma grubunda yer alan öğrencilerin 65’i ilkokul, 70’i ortaokul düzeyinde öğrenim görmektedir.
