Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
With the introduction of FRBR (Functional Requirements of a Bibliographic Record) in 1998, IFLA (the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutes) introduced a new conceptual entity relationship model. FRBR was soon followed by FRAD (Functional Requirements of Authority Data) and FRSAD (Functional Requirements of Subject Authority Data). With LRM (IFLA Library Reference Model) and two descriptive standards, the RDA Toolkit and BIBFRAME to follow, it helps catalogers to have a greater understanding of the entity relationship models they use for bibliographic description. The authors compare the models and descriptive standards. Differences among the entities, their definitions, and properties are examined and analyzed.

The author reviews the activity of the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) in the area of bibliography and bibliographic studies since the second half of 20th century. IFLA bibliography-oriented divisions with the account to the recent structural changes are named. The changes are approved at 2021 World Library and Information Congress. The key projects in blbliography and cataloguing are discussed: Universal Bibliographic Control (UBC), UNISIST (United Nations International Scientific Information System); National Information Systems; International Standard Bibliographic Description (ISBD). The current technological projects, e. g. FRBR, FRAD, FRSAD, FRBRoo, PRESSoo, IFLA LRM, are to regulate and standardize requirements to bibliographic records to support multiaspect information retrieval. The author argues that IFLA has transformed its bibliographic activities from large-scale global projects intended to embrace various types of documents and to unify bibliographic records toward narrower technological projects oriented toward disclosing data on format and contents of documents and efficient utilization of bibliographic information. The author emphaszes that IFLA is now focusing on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals agenda and 2030 Culture Coalition. The author based her article on the paper delivered at the Third World Bibliographic Congress (Novosibirsk, 27–29 April, 2021).

Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to study the technological implementation of the emergent bibliographic models (IFLA LRM in particular) taking into account one of the most widespread platforms for the semantic web, namely Wikibase. Different initiatives of implementation of LRM have been taken into account, included: a) a prototype cataloging interface; b)the implementation of the new cataloging system for the Bibliothéque Nationale de France (Bnf); c) a test of use of one of the feature of the Wikibase data model - namely the "qualifier"- to find a sustainable solution for the LRM nomen entity. Wikibase and his data model cannot be considered the magical unicorn that solves all problems. More in-depth analysis and tests are needed, but – as an intermediate result – we can consider Wikibase a promising platform also in the bibliographic field with a low entry barrier.

Abstract:
Bibliographic control is one of the few internationally highly standardized activities. The generally accepted IFLA Library Reference Model (IFLA LRM) has influenced the modification of numerous other standards in the field of bibliographic control. In this context, also on UNIMARC and ISBD. Moreover, at the IFLA WLIC 2022 Congress, the working group for the revision of international cataloguing principles announced that it was analyzing the introduction of the term “work with entities”. In the COBISS system, developments in the field of bibliographic control and standards related to it are closely monitored. The transition to the new millennium shed a new light on the organization of bibliographic information, placing in the focus of interest authority data as the basic building block of a new approach to managing the sources of the bibliographic universe. Therefore, first of all, the state of authority data in the COBISS.net network should be analyzed, which can serve as a starting point for development and cooperation between the member countries of the COBISS.net network also on this field.

Abstract:
The traditional approach to cataloguing has always been based on the investigation of the characteristics of the objects in collections that are most relevant to the construction of catalogues. The evolution of cataloguing theory has therefore led to the identification and analysis of entities with those characteristics and to the construction of a logical model capable of explaining bibliographic phenomena in an increasingly refined manner. That approach also led to the definition of RiCCM and CIDOC-CRM models. In addition to this valid point of view, a second perspective is proposed, which takes into account the entities identified in the logical models developed in the library, archive and museum models as part of the much larger, richer and more numerous ontologies of the semantic web, represented by the Linked Open Data Cloud. In this perspective, the logical models of libraries, archives, and museums can be seen as some of the possible infinite modelling of web entities, constructed in the light of the principles and tradition of each subject area. This new perspective helps to better clarify the role of data professionals, the concept of metadata, the characteristics of logical models and to take a unified view of the bibliographic, archival and museum universes.

Abstract:
This study surveyed the current state of knowledge about, and application or use of, Resource Description and Access (RDA) among American public library catalogers. In 2017, an online survey request was e-mailed to four thousand libraries for the person or persons most responsible for cataloging to complete the questionnaire. More than three hundred libraries responded. The data expose serious concerns with RDA adoption within the public library sector. While a majority of catalogers know about RDA, their working knowledge about it differs substantially depending on whether they work in rural or urban library settings. Regardless, 22 percent of respondants still had not heard of the RDA standard until completing this survey. While further training and educational opportunities (along with funds) for catalogers nationwide would help minimize this disparity, LIS schools also can play a role by educating more thoroughly the next generations of catalogers in this newer descriptive standard. Coming on the brink of a shift in the theoretical framework of the RDA standard, from the Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR) model to the IFLA Library Reference Model (LRM), public library catalogers risk falling even farther behind in their knowledge and compitency with the RDA standard.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This contribution reproduces the text of the speech that was held in the framework of the presentation of the second edition of the volume Nuovo soggettario. Guida al sistema italiano di indicizzazione per soggetto, that took place in Florence on June 7th, 2022. As happened in these years with the subject indexing tools of important national libraries, the National Central Library of Florence, too, has updated the Nuovo soggettario, that saw the light in 2007, today employed by the Italian National Bibliography (BNI) and by most libraries of the National Library System (SBN). The intervention recalls the context factors that led to the project and to the elaboration of the second edition of the Guida, fully revised and updated: the evolution of the international scene related to indexing (new standards, new conceptual models), the semantic web and the linked open data; the development of the Nuovo soggettario system as a whole (increase of terminology, connections with equivalents in other languages, with resources of archives and museums, availability of the Thesaurus in exchange formats and standard protocols, etc.). The second edition’s novelties are then illustrated: a better organized exposure of the standards, more functional to their use, a totally new first part dedicated to the principles and to the general aspects of the indexing, the confrontation with IFLA LRM, the references to the indexing of non-bibliographical resources (figurative works, photographs) of ancient works, etc. Finally, it ends by stressing the importance that the cooperation with other partner institutions and with ICCU has had in this work, and shall continue to have in the future, for a greater and greater sharing of the semantic data on behalf of the Italian libraries.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Purpose This multi-method study is aimed at assessing the quality and alignment of 11 Pakistani library and information science (LIS) master’s programs’ orientation, curricula and course contents, by comparing them with the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) Guidelines for Professional Library/Information Programs (2012). Design/methodology/approach The study is based on a documentary analysis and telephonic interviews with master’s programs’ coordinators of all LIS departments. The data were collected on the 11 master’s programs from three sources: programs’ web pages, prospectuses and curricula with detailed course contents. The principal researcher also conducted 11 structured telephonic and face-to-face interviews with master’s programs’ coordinators. Findings Findings of the study show that while there is some compliance with IFLA core elements, the courses are largely inclined toward the management and less toward the information communication technologies (ICTs) components. Generally, the courses are traditional in nature, indicating a problem of widespread reliance on outdated and some irrelevant contents that do not reflect the current needs of the changing environment. Practical implications The findings highlight the need of increased efforts for seeking alignment with international standards by redesigning and reorienting LIS curricula. Mission and vision statement, planning and evaluation are the areas that need to be focused on to ensure the future survival of academic programs. Originality/value This is the first study of its nature in Pakistan that will be beneficial for Pakistan and other developing countries in their curriculum review and development process and future programs orientation.

Diagnosis and management of patients with SLE (Systemic Lupus Eritematosus), autoimmune hepatitis (AIH), primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC), involves specific diagnostic tests, such as IFA-AMA, IFA anti-dsDNA and immunoblotting for the detection of autoantibodies for specific autoantigens (mitochondria, dsDNA, M2, LKM-1, LC-1, SLA/LP). We established specific correlation between the detected autoantibodies and corresponding clinical findings. The total of 813 serum specimens were probed with IFA-anti-dsDNA, 98 of which tested positive. We also performed dilution analysis to the end point for all the positive specimens. Numerous specimens were tested by IFA, AMA and immunoblotting.

Abstract:
Purpose What are the responsibilities of libraries, if there is any, in the personal process of constructing cultural identity? The purpose of this paper is to find answers to this question and pose several others such as: Can the author define a standard for creating group identity, for instance, by involving or integrating tools and experiences from the area of bibliotherapy? How can libraries support their patrons to work with their tradition, on their tradition, i.e. to create their own cultural identity? Design/methodology/approach The author provides with proposals to develop library services to meet new expectations that are raised by the increasing importance of bridging communities of different cultural backgrounds. Findings By expanding the scope of bibliotherapy, the author might assist in solving social problems and international tensions. The author should consider the possibility of running projects involving historians, culture experts and bibliotherapists to build a shared digital corpus and design specific tools for research and constructing common narratives. To find common cultural references in a multicultural environment is a challenge that requires openness in many fields. Public libraries are mainly at the frontline. There are some old responsibilities that need to be refined under the changing circumstances; new tasks and principals might emerge. Originality/value Despite the role of libraries in creating cultural identity is emphasized by a couple of relevant IFLA and UNESCO documents, there are no specific guides on methods to implement. A few ideas have been outlined in this paper about how libraries could contribute to bringing cultures together and challenge prejudices and stereotypes.

Abstract:
This study aims to find out what factors that affect a Muslim's decision to get married. This study uses the data from the Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS) with a quantitative approach using 83% of the sample population in Indonesia covering approximately 30,000 people taken in 13 of the 27 provinces in Indonesia. This study was analyzed using Linear Probability Model (LPM) regression, Logit regression and Probit regression. The data in this study were processed using STATA MP software. According to the results of data using three regression models, the factors that affect the decision of each individual in Indonesia in general to marry are gender, religion, age, education and occupation. The factors that affect each individual Muslim in Indonesia to make a decision to marry are gender, age, education and occupation. Then, for women in Indonesia in general, the factors that affect the decision to get married are religion, age, and occupation. Last but not least, for Muslim women, the factors that affect the decision to marry is age and occupation. Keywords: Socio-Economy, Muslim Marriage, Marital Decision

Abstract:
ABSTRACTThe family home environment is the first place we face economic problems. Economic uncertainty on the one hand increases the demand for financial planning. This study will focus on finding out the micro factors of Muslim families in Indonesia that can influence investment decisions, especially stocks. This study applies quantitative methods with secondary data instruments Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS) wave 5 The data analysis technique used is probit regression analysis, the analysis techniques carried out in probit regression include; model feasibility test, analysis of the coefficient of determination (R2), and hypothesis testing. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the variables of family size, loan, age, and marital status did not significantly influence the probability of stock ownership. The variables of income, education level, gender and financial worship have a positive and significant relationship to the probability of stock ownership in Muslim families in Indonesia. It is hoped that this research can be useful for the Otoritas Jasa Keuangan and the Bursa Efek Indonesia as additional information and consideration in reforming policies regarding increasing literacy in family financial management and community welfare in Indonesia. Keywords: Stock Ownership, Income, Education Level, Number of Dependents in the Family, Loans, Age, Gender, Marital Status, Financial Worship. Abstract:

Abstract:

Metodom analize i usporedbe članaka teoretičara informacijskih znanosti E. Jones, P. Riva i P. Abstract:
PurposeThis paper focuses on the way users navigate bibliographic families not only when a user has no specific document in mind but also when he/she has a specific predefined need in mind.Design/methodology/approachTo this end, the Epic of Kings was selected as a test-bed for the study and both situations were studied based on International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions-Library Reference Model (IFLA-LRM), but the potential users (participants of this study) were not directly exposed to the entities of the model. Card sorting, interview and distributing questionnaire constituted the data-gathering process.FindingsAlmost all of the participants in this study, when they had no specific resource in mind, generated a top-down view of the family, and in this view, all of them disregarded the item entity and lots of them disregarded the manifestations also. Yet on the other side, when they were asked to assume themselves in certain situations (in need of a specific work with a predefined expression and format), they viewed the bibliographic family from a bottom-up approach.Originality/valueMost of the studies in this area regard the navigation process of users as a top-down approach and the Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR) family as a model suitable for hierarchical top-down visualization of bibliographic families. Yet this study poses the bottom-up approach of users regarding the family.

Az IFLA szakemberei által összeállított könyvtári referenciamodell nem csupán a katalogizálás leendő szabályozásának alapja, hanem a jövőben fejlesztésre kerülő, entitásalapú könyvtári rendszerek tervezésének is kiindulópontja. Az FRBR-ból jól ismert entitások, köztük az első csoportban található magentitások (mű, kifejezési forma, megjelenési forma, példány) köre időközben differenciálódott, kibővült, többek közül a FRSAD modell óta jelen lévő nomen entitással, amely utóbbit, lényegi szerepköre miatt, érdemesebb mélyebben, az LRM, illetve az azt implementáló RDA felfogásában is megismernünk, kitérve az alkalmazás egy konkrét példájára.

They reinterpret the mission of public libraries and encourage us to hold to and champion our values of access to information and knowledge, literacy, learning and innovation.Originality/valueThe views are my own and do not represent an official IFLA view.
