Abstract:
From the mid-nineteenth century to the early twentieth century British Idealism was a leading school of philosophical thought and the Scottish Idealists made important contributions to this philosophical school. In Scotland, there were two types of post-Hegelian idealism: Absolute Idealism and Personal Idealism. This article will show the ways in which these philosophical systems arose by focusing on their leading representatives: Edward Caird and Andrew Seth Pringle-Pattison.

AbstractDuring the early twentieth century, British novelist and philosopher May Sinclair published two book-length defenses of idealism. Although Sinclair is well known to literary scholars, she is little known to the history of philosophy. This paper provides the first substantial scholarship on Sinclair's philosophical views, focusing on her mature idealism. Although Sinclair is working within the larger British idealist tradition, her argument for Absolute idealism is unique, founded on Samuel Alexander's new realist beliefs about the reality of time. Her metaphysics takes idealism and pantheism in new directions and provides fresh insight into 1920s debates between British idealisms and realisms.

Abstract:
Abstract: The Communication aims a comparative analysis on the philosophical problem of the art as an expression of truth, considering the Platonic idealism and the modern esthetic idealism from Hegel. The starting point is the assumption that this analysis holds a paradoxical relationship between both idealistic proposals, Insofar as Plato affirms the art thesis as detachment from the truth, considering his character essentially mimetic, Hegel says that the art to establish itself as a moment of effective realization from the Spirit (Wirklichkeit) can only be understood from the paradigm of the idea, of Platonic inspiration. We emphasize the art understanding coming from the Platonic metaphysics theory and his idealistic conception of aisthesis, as well as the scientific character of aesthetics, according to Hegel, whose philosophical foundation claims the understanding of the idea, as absolute reason that self unfolds historically carries up within the limits of finitude sensitive. It is intended to show that the Hegelian overcoming supposed from Platonic idealist conception about the art can not prescind from foundation of Platonism - the universal idea, the infinity. Palabras clave: Romanticismo, Fichte, Spinoza, idealismo, realismo, naturalismo, auto-determinación Abstract Romantic Metaphysics is presented as an attempt to fuse Fichtean idealism and Spinozist realism. It is argued that the problem with this attempt is that it not always achieved to reconciliate the main tenents of both idealism and realism: that for the first the self is everything and that for the second it is the world which is everything. Abstract:
ABSTRACT – The existence of women can be actualized through the expression of idealism in the journalist profession. This study aims to describe the expression of idealism and the construction of the identity of millennial female journalists. The study was qualitatively conducted by interviewing ten women journalists using the snowball sampling technique and through analysis based on identity theory. The results indicated that the expression of millennial female journalists’ idealism was enacted via subtle news language, perspectives, or angles prioritizing women’s feelings, the capability to master media technology, and overall professionalism. Outwardly, millennial women journalists were shown to construct their identities by dressing in typical business dress, acting with confidence, and playing the role of a journalist. This media management system was revealed to shape the journalists’ self-constructions of their professional identities as the expression of idealism. AbstractChekhov depicted a number of idealists – individuals whose behavior and thought is based on ideals that for the most part prove to be impractical or unattainable in reality. These noble visionaries have a conception of things as they wish them to be. Many of Chekhov's idealists are doctors who, more often than not, suffer defeat on a personal rather than on a professional level. Dr. Astrov appears to suffer a defeat both on a personal level and in some respects on a professional level. The present study aims to provide an analysis of the nature of Dr. Astrov's idealism, his struggle with existential obstacles, and his personal and professional struggle against the complex forces that challenge his idealism and eventually turn him into a cynic.

Abstract:
The Case of Johannes Scottus Eriugena”. In this paper, I wish to argue (against Myles Burnyeat) that idealism is a genuine philosophical possibility prior to Descartes. Indeed, a version of idealism which implies a developed concept of subjectivity is actually to be found in a sophisticated version in the Periphyseon of Johannes Scottus Eriugena. Eriugena’s extreme intellectualist immaterialism differs from modern idealism in that it is motivated not so much by an epistemological consideration of skeptical arguments concerning the existence of the external world, but rather by theological consideration of the consequences of the doctrine of divine creation. Eriugena thinks of the world as an expression of the divine mind, and of all things in the world as contained in the divine mind. Furthermore, following the Neoplatonic tradition, he denies the existence of matter as a separate principle, and considers creatio ex nihilo to mean creatio ex deo.

Abstract:
International Relations (IR) textbooks often make reference to an idealist paradigm in interwar IR. This article argues that an idealist paradigm did not exist, and that interwar references to idealism or utopianism are contradictory and have little to do with defining a paradigm. Not only is there no idealist paradigm in IR at this time, but authors from the interwar period that have since been dismissed as idealists rarely share the attributes assigned to idealism or utopianism by later writers. If IR scholars are serious about understanding the history of their discipline then they will have to stop applying misleading and anachronistic terms like idealism.

Abstract:
AbstractSince the initial reception of the Critique of Pure Reason transcendental idealism has been perceived and criticized as a form of subjective idealism regarding space, time, and the objects within them, despite Kant's protestations to the contrary. In recent years, some commentators have attempted to counter this interpretation by presenting transcendental idealism as a primarily epistemological doctrine rather than a metaphysical one. Others have insisted on the metaphysical character of transcendental idealism. Within these debates, Kant's rejection of ontology (of the kind exemplified by Wolff and Baumgarten) has received comparatively little treatment, although it is often acknowledged. The present essay seeks to contribute to the secondary literature on Kant by offering an analysis of this claim and elaborating its consequences for transcendental idealism. This will take the form of a critical examination of transcendental idealism's supposed ontological agnosticism—that is, its disavowal of any ontological claims. The overall conclusion is that Kant's rejection of ontology is deeply problematic, and to such an extent that it may be necessary to reconsider the possibilities of defending transcendental idealism as a purely epistemological, non-ontological doctrine.

Abstract:

Abstract: Although there are many common points in Frege and Husserl’s criticisms of psychologism, there are some differences too. This article is concerned with the analysis of one of these differences. For Frege, an essential relationship exists between the criticism of psychologism and that of idealism. No such link is present in the Husserlian refutation of psychologism, presented in the Prolegomena. Abstract:
Abstract This paper takes into account Bertrand Russell’s, Francis H. Bradley’s, and Immanuel Kant’s arguments about “what is the real Julius Caesar” to examine (i) Russell’s characterization of analytic philosophy as a “new philosophy”, born as a revolt against idealism, and (ii) the actual relationship between Bradley and Kant. In order to understand who Russell was actually revolting against, we analyse the features of Bradley’s idealism and investigate how he understood and interpreted Kant’s transcendental revolution. By using the notion of Julius Caesar as a cogent comparative case study, we show that Bradley’s reading of Kant was not well-grounded. Therefore, we argue that Bradley’s interpretation of Hegel’s idealism was also unconventional. This misunderstanding in turn shaped and characterised Russell’s revolt against idealism. As a result, we show that analytic and continental philosophy began to part ways with the birth of what Russell calls new philosophy much earlier than their encounter at Davos. The reasons for this parting can be found in British idealists’ erroneous interpretation of Kant’s transcendental philosophy.

Abstract:
Abstract We investigate, in Friedrich von Hardenberg’s thought, how Philosophy and poetry nourish one another. Philosophy is a source of concepts that enable the investigation of the natural world and its dynamic character, integrating many sources of knowledge in the encyclopedia. Poetry, on the other hand, reaches intuitive forms of knowledge, inaccessible to Philosophy alone. Poetry as a capacity of overcoming the subject-object opposition unfolds in the possibility of a nondualistic, Neoplatonic conception of God, and also in the integration between idealism and realism, by means of the syncritic Philosophy, i.e., a philosophy that has learnt from poetry. Poetry, on the other hand, can only become complete by means of philosophy. We emphasize how Novalis presents many insights that will be met in German Idealism: the importance of the philosophy of nature; the identity between subject and object; God as reason; art conceived as superior to philosophy (Schelling in the System of Transcendental Idealism); late Schelling’ criticism of philosophy as a system.

Abstract:
Abstract After the publication of Wittgenstein’s posthumous work the question was raised whether that work involved idealist tendencies. The debate also engaged Wittgenstein’s immediate students. Resistance to presumed idealist positions had been ideologically central to G.E. Moore, Bertrand Russell and other representatives of realism and early analytic philosophy. While Wittgenstein disagreed with them in key respects, he accepted their tendentious definition of ‘idealism’ at face value and bequeathed it to his students. The greatest flaw in the Realists’ view on idealism was their assumption of symmetry between realist and idealist approaches. For Realists, the chief task of philosophy was to establish what kinds of thing exist, and they took Idealists to offer an alternative account of that. However, the Idealists’ guiding concern was rather to investigate the subjective conditions of knowledge. In this respect, Wittgenstein’s conception of philosophical method was closer to theirs than to that of the Realists. This is especially obvious in his rejection of Moore’s idea of immediate knowledge. Ultimately, the trouble with Wittgenstein was not that he endorsed any kind of idealist ontology. It was his refusal to deliver the expected realist ontological messages on the supposed question of whether reality is independent of language or otherwise.

Abstract: This article discusses the consequences of Kant’s appropriation of idealism, characterizing it transcendentally. It defends that idealism, in its transcendental form, ceases to function as an instrument of philosophical skepticism or rationalism (under which external reality either does not exist or exists only as an intuition of God), and instead functions as an instrument of a non-dogmatic philosophical interpretation. Under this non-dogmatic interpretation, the fundamental metaphysical question is no longer seen as solvable nor decidable, but as a center of an obstinate and recurrent controversy present in the essence of human experience.

AbstractI defend a how-possibly argument for Kantian (or Kant*-ian) transcendental idealism, drawing on concepts from David Chalmers, Nick Bostrom, and the cyberpunk subgenre of science fiction. If we are artificial intelligences living in a virtual reality instantiated on a giant computer, then the fundamental structure of reality might be very different than we suppose. Indeed, since computation does not require spatial properties, spatiality might not be a feature of things as they are in themselves but instead only the way that things necessarily appear to us. It might seem unlikely that we are living in a virtual reality instantiated on a non-spatial computer. However, understanding this possibility can help us appreciate the merits of transcendental idealism in general, as well as transcendental idealism’s underappreciated skeptical consequences.

Di samping menggunakan diksi masing-masing penyair yang menjadi ciri khasnya juga dominan menggunakan gaya hiperbola, repetisi, metafora, dan sisnisme. bahasa Kata kunci: konstruksi, idealisme, sosial, politik one of the anthologies in which it reveals the socio-political situation in Indonesia during the Orde Baru era and the beginning of reform. Palavras-chave: Filosofia da Geografia; Lefebvre; Materialismo Dialético; Crise da Geografia.ABTRACTThe present article has as proposal the discussion of the philosophical categories of Idealism and Materialism in the Geographical thought. Abstract:
There is a distinct relationship between the multiverse theory and the perception of truth when viewed through the lens of German Idealism. At their core, both theories are concerned with movement, or a constant state of flux. This paper draws two analogies between the multiverse theory and German Idealism. First, Kant’s theory of “the thing-in-itself” is posited as a rejection of the idea of a unified universe. Second, similarities are drawn between how the multiverse can be seen as layers of shifting reality and Hegel’s description of the road towards truth, which is filled with movements toward negation and advancement. Finally, the paper discusses how these analogies constitute a critique of scientism: the multiverse theory, as well as German Idealism’s concept of truth, both stand in direct contrast to how modernity places dogmatic and exaggerated trust in empirical science.

Abstract:
Palabras clave: espacio, forma de la intuición, receptividad, idealismo trascendental, realismo empírico Abstract: My purpose in this paper is to point out that there is a mutual implication between two Kantian thesis: the Receptivity Thesis (our knowledge depends on being affected by objects) and the thesis of the space at a form of the phenomena; so that, a full treatment of the receptivity thesis implies Kant's transcendental idealism of space. On my reading this doesn't compromise Kant's empirical realism. In order to show this I explore here the second consequence ("b") that Kant arrives after he shows his arguments in favour of the space in the Transcendental Aesthetics. Abstract:

bstract. By arguing that the connection between Schelling’s reception of Plato and Kant’s conception of genius is relevant for Schelling’s early development, this essay demonstrates the following: (1) that Schelling’s early Idealism brings to the general problem that plagues German Idealists, i.e., the search for an unconditioned principle that unites theoretical and practical reason, the solution that is genuinely his own, this original solution consisting in Schelling’s conception of “creative reason [schöpfersiche Vernunft]”; (2) that the theme of an absolutely free creative subjectivity is shared by many of Schelling’s early works and, hence, that the early development of his Idealism can be interpreted as a beginning of the philosophical system or as a “proto-system” of what was later to become his 1800 System; (3) that when compared to Kant’s notion of genius, Schelling’s “absolute I” should be considered a regress rather than a progress.

George Berkeley is famous for the metaphysical principle esse is percipi or percipere (“to be is to be perceived or to be a perceiver”). Many Berkeleyan idealists take this principle to be incompatible with Platonic realism about abstract objects, and thus opt either for nominalism or divine conceptualism on which they are construed as divine ideas. In this paper, I argue that Berkeleyan idealism is consistent with a Platonic realism in which abstracta exist outside the divine mind. This allows the Berkeleyan to expand Berkeley’s principle to read: esse is percipi or percipere or abstractum.

Abstract:
This article examines the relationship between British Idealist philosophy and modernist form, particularly the stream of consciousness technique. Idealism was ascendant from the 1870s to the 1920s, and the writer/philosopher May Sinclair participated in its conceptual discourse, finding the British Idealists’ contention that time is unreal an especially valuable insight for her literary agenda. For many of the idealists, time is unreal in the sense that multiple temporal series coexist within the universe or atemporal “Absolute.” This idea, which was debated in the journal Mind and elsewhere, played a significant role in the literary conception of “stream of consciousness,” a term first applied to literature by Sinclair in 1918. Considering the interplay of literature and philosophy during this period expands our understanding of the genealogy of modernist form and its effects. In particular, in evoking an experience of the timeless, for Sinclair stream of consciousness draws together authors, characters, and readers, generating among them complex investments, both ethical and ontological.

Abstract: Charles Sanders Peirce is well known for his Semiotics, but little known for his Metaphysics. This paper intends to follow the author’s passage from Pragmatism to Objective Idealism. Metaphysics becomes scientific when subjected to the principles of mathematics, logic and phenomenology. For Peirce, Metaphysics also develops hypotheses based on the method of abduction, that ought to be verified. Metaphysics is the greatest expression of the categories of phenomenology, namely: Firstness, Secondness and Thirdness that help construct the triad of his evolutionary cosmology: Tychism, Synechism and Agapism. Synechism is the theory in which Peirce affirms the continuity between matter and spirit that leads him to assert that objective Idealism is the only position to competently explain the scientific understanding of the universe.

Abstract:
This paper is concerned with the attempt to base a general theory of value on an idealist metaphysics. The most explicit and fully developed instance of this approach is, of course, found in Kant, on whom I shall concentrate, though I will also suggest that the account I offer of Kant has application to the later German idealists. While the core of the paper is devoted to commentary on Kant, what I thereby wish to make plausible is the idea that Kant's endeavour to base a general conception of value on an idealist metaphysics is of contemporary, not merely historical, interest. Specifically, my suggestion will be that a correct understanding of what is demanded by our ordinary, pre-philosophical grasp of value shows there is reason to think that something along the lines of Kant's transcendental idealism (or, like absolute idealism, developed from it) is required for a fully adequate metaphysics of value. Essential to the case I will make is a distinction between Kant's moral theory and his broader account of value, my claim being that, whether or not Kantian moral theory is ultimately dependent on any metaphysics, the broader conception of value to be found in Kant cannot be detached from his doctrine of transcendental idealism.

Abstract:
Ever since Plato coined the metaphor, it has been tempting to treat the history of philosophy as a series of battles between Gods and Giants, as a ‘clash of argument’ between idealists and materialists, rationalists and naturalists, and idealists and realists. Many commentators, provoked by Hegel's combative remarks, have been led to see the Kant-Hegel relation in this way; and yet it has not always been easy to determine either what the issue between these two antagonists really is, or indeed which of them is the Giant and which the God. Robert Pippin, in his new book, Hegel's Idealism: The Satisfactions of Self-Consciousness (Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, 1989, pp. xii + 327, hb £30.00, pb £10.95) casts new light on the nature of the struggle, and makes clear what was at stake: a non-rationalist, non-metaphysical answer to the sceptic, and with it absolute knowledge. Pippin's densely written but engrossing book provides the focus of discussion for this issue of the Bulletin. The contributions by H.S. Harris and Terry Pinkard offer critical comments on Pippin's approach to Hegel, and they are followed with a response by Pippin himself. These pieces were originally presented as a meeting of the Western APA, and assume an acquaintance with Pippin's argument, which I will try to outline in what follows. Like many recent commentators, Pippin begins by insisting that we take seriously Hegel's claim to have ‘completed’ Kant, and so rejects any metaphysical, rationalist readng of Hegel. On the other hand, Pippin wants to understand Hegel's claim to have found a form of idealism that answers Kant's transcendental scepticism regarding the ‘thing-in-itself’, without collapsing back into rationalism.

Abstract:
AbstractAlthough T.L.S. Sprigge described idealist philosophy as the stage beyond religion, his pantheistic idealism, while not itself a religion, offers a conception of God that seeks to meet the aspiration of human beings to understand their own place in the universe. While he shared with most mid twentieth century British philosophers a basic assumption of the primacy of experience, Sprigge took this strong empiricist assumption in a Berkeleyian rather than a Humean direction. This enabled him to find a place for the phenomenon of religious consciousness, which he saw as the source of a yearning that can be met by absolute idealism's conception of a ‘Whole’ that encompasses ourselves and all aspects of our world. He describes this recognition as the faltering adumbration of a truth – one that is sometimes encountered in aesthetic experience, and sometimes more directly in the lives of mystics. The metaphysical basis for this form of absolute idealism is provided by a concept of time in which each fleeting ‘now’ has a fixed and permanent place, and by a theory of identity according to which personal individuality is dissolved in a unitary ‘Whole’.

Abstract:
That the great Scottish man of letters Thomas Carlyle (1795–1881) exercised a formative influence over the ‘British Idealism’ of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries has long been noted by historians. However, this has been done so in passing, on the basis of a small fraction of the relevant source material. Through a close, comprehensive and sustained analysis of the entire corpus of relevant sources, the current article demonstrates that the British Idealists considered Carlyle to be far and away the most important British (Scottish) thinker of the nineteenth century, and considered themselves to be his heirs in almost every sense imaginable. Indeed, this is true of their theology, their ethics and their social and political thought.

Abstract:
AbstractGerman idealism stems in large part from Fichte’s response to a dilemma involving the concepts of pantheism, freedom, and time: time is the form of the determination of modes of substance, as held by a pantheistic or “dogmatic” person, or the form of acts generated by human freedom, as held by an idealistic person. Fichte solves the dilemma by refuting dogmatism and deducing time from idealism’s first principle. But his diagnosis is more portentous: by casting the lemmas in terms of person-types, he unintentionally invites Schelling’s philosophical rethinking of personality. In his middle period, Schelling argues for the consistency of the concepts of pantheism, freedom, and time, claiming that it depends on a “good” as opposed to “evil’ personality. However, since on his view personality is an absolute or

TITLE: Interpretation of Kant’s philosophy by Ort ega y Gasset: from marburguian idealism to the critical ontologyABSTRACT: The purpose of this article is to present the evolution of Orteguian studies on the philosophy of Immanuel Kant. The spanish philosopher went from the logical idealism of the Marburg School to the metaphysical and ontological interpretations presented by the students of neo-Kantian masters such as Nicolai Hartmann, Heinz Heimsoeth, Karl Jaspers y Martín Heidegger. Those philosophers made the starting point of their reflection the philosophy of Kant because they found there metaphysical and ontological problems which were forgotten and omitted by the representatives of Neo-Kantian schools.

Abstract:
The topic that I wish to consider is the significance, both systematic and historical, for Kant's system as a whole, of the postulates of pure practical reason, more specifically, of the two theological postulates concerning the existence of God and personal immortality which form the basis of Kant's moral theology. My discussion will focus on the problems of Kant's moral theology in the eyes of his early contemporaries, for whom it constituted a crux in Kant's project. Different views were taken by Kant's contemporaries of what exactly these problems signified regarding the future of Critical philosophy. For the thinkers I will be looking at here, the miscarriage of the moral theology constituted a fatal fault in the Kantian project. For the German Idealists, the moral theology instead provided a vital clue as to how the Kantian system could be transformed into a more radical idealism, while confirming that it needed to be. The role of the practical postulates in the development of German Idealism demands a separate treatment; what I will argue here is simply that the practical postulates do indeed represent a point at which Kant's philosophical system displays a deep and interesting tension, in light of which both historical responses are prima facie intelligible.

Temperament is a set of innate tendencies of the mind associated with the processes of perception, analysis and decision-making. The purpose of this article is to predict the psychotype of individuals based on chat stories and follow the Keirsi model, according to which the psycho type is classified as a craftsman, guardian, idealist and mind. The proposed methodology uses a version of LIWC, a dictionary of words, to analyze the context of words and uses supervised learning using KNN, SVM, and Random Forest algorithms to train the classifier. The average accuracy obtained was 88.37% for artisan temperament, 86.92% for caregivers, 55.61% for idealists, and 69.09% for rationality. When using the binary classifier, the average accuracy was 90.93% for artisan temperament, 88.98% for caregivers, 51.98% for idealism, and 71.42% for rationality.
