Abstract:
This paper analyzes the effect of financial knowledge and confidence in shaping individual investment choices, sustainable debt behavior, and preferences for socially and environmentally responsible financial companies. Exploiting data from the “Italian Literacy and Financial Competence Survey” (IACOFI) carried out by the Bank of Italy in early 2020, we address potential endogeneity concerns in order to investigate the causal effect of objective financial knowledge on individual financial behaviors. To this aim, we perform endogenous probit regressions, using the respondent’s long-term planning attitude, the use of information and communication technology devices, and the financial knowledge of peers as additional instrumental variables. Our main empirical findings show that objective financial knowledge exerts a positive and significant effect on financial market participation and preferences for ethical financial companies. Moreover, we provide strong empirical evidence about the role of confidence biases on individual financial behaviors. In particular, overconfident individuals display a higher probability of making financial investments, experiencing losses due to investment fraud, and being over-indebted. Conversely, underconfident individuals exhibit suboptimal investment choices, but are less likely to engage in risky financial behaviors.

Abstract:
Background: Posttraumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) of the subtalar joint is a serious, disabling, and frequent complication following intra-articular calcaneal fractures (IACFs). Using plain radiographs to assess the subtalar joint for PTOA is imprecise and insensitive, hindering progress toward improving treatment and assessing outcomes. This study explored how low-dose weightbearing computed tomography (WBCT) can be used to provide reliable, quantitative 3D measures of subtalar joint space width (JSW) following IACF and correlated the 3D JSW with clinical outcomes. Methods: After institutional review board approval, 21 patients (15 male; age, 28-70 years) who sustained IACFs and were treated with percutaneous surgical reduction underwent WBCT scans at follow-up visits 2 to 15 years (average, 7.8 years) after surgical treatment. Subtalar joint 3D JSW was computed after a semiautomated protocol was used to segment the talus and calcaneus from the WBCT data. Mean and minimum 3D JSW measurements were calculated and compared with Kellgren-Lawrence (KL) radiographic osteoarthritis grade, RAND-36 Physical (PCS) and Mental (MCS) Component Scores, and visual analog scale (VAS) pain scores. Spearman’s rank correlation was used to detect the strength of association between variables, with significance set at P < .05. Results: Mean 3D JSW values measured from WBCT for patients with IACFs ranged from 0.9 to 2.5 mm (1.7 ± 0.4 mm) over the entire subtalar joint. Intra- and interrater reliabilities for the WBCT-based JSW measurement technique were 0.95 (95% CI, 0.91-0.97) and 0.97 (95% CI, 0.95-0.98), respectively. Mean and minimum 3D JSW values correlated inversely with VAS pain scores and KL grade ( P < .05), particularly in central and posterior subtalar regions. Conclusion: WBCT-based methods were used to quantify the preservation/loss of JSW in patients with IACFs, enabling more accurate, definitive measurement of subtalar PTOA. The results of this study demonstrate that WBCT can be utilized to objectively assess subtalar PTOA and help us to better understand how arthritic changes affect actual patient experience. Level of Evidence: Level III, prognostic comparative study.

In this paper we study the interpretation of Iacobi Zabarellae on the agent intellect. He argues that the agent intellect different from the potential intelect, to whom activates and lights it directly without mediation; He sais also that do not abstracts in us, that in it coincides his being with his operation, and that is God. It is, therefore, an Averroism combined with Platonic, Augustinians and Thomists elements.

Abstract:
Context. The apparent lack of massive O-type stars near the zero-age main sequence, or ZAMS (at ages <2 Myr), is a topic that has been widely discussed in the past 40 yr. Different explanations for the elusive detection of these young massive stars have been proposed from the observational and theoretical side, but no firm conclusions have been reached yet. Aims. We reassess this empirical result here, benefiting from the high-quality spectroscopic observations of (more than 400) Galactic O-type stars gathered by the IACOB and OWN surveys. Methods. We used effective temperatures and surface gravities resulting from a homogeneous semi-automatized IACOB-GBAT/FASTWIND spectroscopic analysis to locate our sample of stars in the Kiel and spectroscopic Hertzsprung-Russell (sHR) diagrams. We evaluated the completeness of our magnitude-limited sample of stars as well as potential observational biases affecting the compiled sample using information from the Galactic O star catalog. We discuss limitations and possible systematics of our analysis method, and compare our results with other recent studies using smaller samples of Galactic O-type stars. We mainly base our discussion on the distribution of stars in the sHR diagram in order to avoid the use of still uncertain distances to most of the stars in our sample. However, we also performed a more detailed study of the young cluster Trumpler-14 as an illustrative example of how Gaia cluster distances can help to construct the associated classical HR diagram. Results. We find that the apparent lack of massive O-type stars near the ZAMS with initial evolutionary masses in the range between ≈30 and 70 M⊙ still persist even when spectroscopic results from a large non-biased sample of stars are used. We do not find any correlation between the dearth of stars close to the ZAMS and obvious observational biases, limitations of our analysis method, and/or the use of one example spectroscopic HR diagram instead of the classical HR diagram. Finally, by investigating the effect of the efficiency of mass accretion during the formation process of massive stars, we conclude that an adjustment of the mass accretion rate towards lower values than canonically assumed might reconcile the hotter boundary of the empirical distribution of optically detected O-type stars in the spectroscopic HR diagram and the theoretical birthline for stars with masses above ≈30 M⊙. Last, we also discuss how the presence of a small sample of O2-O3.5 stars found much closer to the ZAMS than the main distribution of Galactic O-type star might be explained in the context of this scenario when the effect of nonstandard star evolution (e.g. binary interaction, mergers, and/or homogeneous evolution) is taken into account.

Abstract:
The ‘every day financialization’ that has been taking place for over twenty years has increased the interest of institutions, international organisations and academics in financial literacy and the ensuing implementation of strategies that promote it – such as financial education initiatives – for the development of financial capability and the pursuit of financial well-being. This research aims at investigating the existing relationship between vulnerability and financial literacy, trying to test, specifically, whether higher levels of financial knowledge help preventing household vulnerability and thus reducing its risk of financial and social exclusion. A multivariate logistic model applied has been estimated on an original sample of households living in Italy (N=4,412) obtained from the harmonising of the first two waves (2017 and 2020) of the Bank of Italy's IACOFI survey was used. The main result, obtained thanks to a new indicator constructed on the basis of two variables in the dataset, shows that 56.6% of households experience financial vulnerability and that generally as the level of knowledge increases, the probability of a household to be in a vulnerable situation decreases. Young people are found to be the most vulnerable group, but also the one on which knowledge has the strongest impact, as well as households in the Centre of Italy and Islands that manage to reduce the probability of experiencing vulnerability to similar levels as those in the North-West. Knowledge also reduces the vulnerability of households that fail to save, but does not affect those that save only informally. Finally, there emerge the condition of chronicisation, which is difficult to escape by increasing knowledge, and of overconfidence, which should be countered by increasing individual awareness.

Abstract:
The thesis is about Giovanni Iacopo Dionisi (1734-1808), canon of Verona’s cathedral and librarian of the Biblioteca Capitolare, known as one “of the most well-deserving man of the Dante studies, […] at the end of the previous century, the beginner of a new criticism on the poet’s works” (G. Carducci). Dionisi’s books, i.e. the eight “Aneddoti”, the "Preparazione istorica e critica alla nuova edizione di Dante Allighieri" (full of exegetic and textual hints about Dante’s works), and his edition of Dante’s “Commedia” (published by Bodoni in 1795), are for the first time analysed with the point of view of modern Dante criticism. The controversy between Dionisi and Baldassarre Lombardi, editor of the “Commedia” in 1791, is taken in account as well. My thesis proves that Dionisi solved many difficult textual points in Dante’s works, so that many are the readings proposed by Dionisi you can find also in Petrocchi’s edition of the “Commedia” and in Brambilla Ageno’s edition of the “Convivio”, as is shown in a table in the thesis’ appendix, where the reader also finds seven unpublished Dionisi letters to Bartolomeo Perazzini, parish priest of Soave and fond of Dante, and twenty-one extracts from other letters between the two, that show how tight was the collaboration between the two scholars.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Full text
Abstract:
This work is an analysis on two ways of religious performance of the Order of the Dominicans ones in the second half of 13th century, that is, the preaching and the pertaining to school culture. From approaches between Some of Theology (ST), by Thomas Aquinaso, and Golden Legend (LA), by Iacopo of Varazze, the work aimed at prompt aspects in the referring historiography to “the archaic” character - or to the lack of new features - in the workmanship of Iacopo and consisted of a quarrel on the sins and the virtues. The relations established between the LA and the ST had been developed under two perspectives: structural and of interpretation. The first one was developed in chapters 1 and 3 of the following form: the 1) structure of the chaining of arguments in the narratives (LA) and Questions (ST) about Christ; 3) the testyfing of identical arguments in the narratives and references on the Virgin Mary. The interpretation perspective was carried through in chapter 2 on possibilities of if approaching the speech of Thomas Aquinas with the one of Iacopo of Varazze concerning prostitution. It was looked, with this, to relativize the use of “the archaic” term and its unusually for workmanships of the Middle Age - as the ST and the LA - that they recognized the tradition as authority. This relativity was proposal with an analysis on the Treated one to the Vices and the Sins in the workmanship of Thomas. It is given credit, therefore, that preachin and pertaining to school culture do not assume distinct ways very, therefore both the authors had appealed to the vast tradition of the Christianity in such a way to enrich how much to endorse the arguments presented in its texts. The use of this tradition and the belonging to one same Order also are aspects that cannot be neglected, therefore, while Dominicans, Thomas and Iacopo had passed for processes seemed of pertaining to school, liturgical and theological formation. In this direction, Iacopo and Thomas cannot be analyzed under the prism of modern & archaic, the least in relation to the sins and the virtues. If the LA leaves of to be so archaic in relation the ST in what it refers to only to the speech on the women it is a questioning for other inquiries and becomes necessary the construction of others comparables objects.

Abstract:
The essay focuses on a documentary corpus that belonged to the San Miniato archive: the papers of Banco di Francesco Botticini, which came to the monastery at the beginning of the 15th century. Botticini’s legacy can be reconstructed in about fifty parchments (represented here in an Appendix as register or excerpt), and offers interesting evidence on the Boccaccio’s family, linked to Banco Botticini by neighborhood relations and common acquaintances. Eleven ‘Olivetan parchments’ bear references to Boccaccio and are able to show different but still close relationships: from the sincere ones with messer Giovanni to the stormy with his brother, Iacopo, up to the long-lasting bond with the Iacopo’s sons, heirs of Boccaccio, who remained in the legal guardianship of Banco Botticini for many years.
