Abstract:
This essay explores how Gregory I (bishop of Rome, 590–604) depicted two Lombard sieges of Rome, traditionally dated to 592 and 593. These events, when they are discussed, are typically presented in a litany of disasters that befell Rome at the end of the sixth century. Plague, famine, flooding, and ultimately the “swords of the Lombards” were the depressing context of Gregory’s pontificate. However, a close examination of Gregory’s letters, the principal source for Rome in this period, reveals that the bishop’s presentation of these Lombard attacks evolved considerably between 591 and 595. Indeed, it was only in response to several controversies with the East, including criticisms by the exarch Romanus and especially the use of the title universalis episcopus (typically translated into English as ecumenical patriarch) by Patriarch John IV of Constantinople (582–95), that Gregory came to recast the Lombard campaigns as disasters for Rome and the causes of great suffering. Rome’s suffering then served as a rhetorical foil against which Gregory contrasted what he saw as the callous neglect of imperial officials and especially John’s prideful asceticism performed in the safety of Constantinople.

Abstract:
MicroRNA (miR)-590-5p has been identified as an important regulator of some signaling pathways such as cell proliferation and tumorigenesis. However, little is known about its role during viral infection. Here, we report that miR-590-5p was significantly induced by various viruses and effectively potentiated virus replication in different viral infection systems. Furthermore, miR-590-5p substantially attenuated the virus-induced expression of type I and type III interferons (IFNs) and inflammatory cytokines, resulting in impaired downstream antiviral signaling. Interleukin-6 receptor (IL6R) was identified as a target of miR-590-5p. Interestingly, the role of miR-590-5p in virus-triggered signaling was abolished in IL6R knockout cells, and this could be rescued by restoring the expression of the soluble IL6R (sIL6R) but not the membrane-bound IL6R (mIL6R), suggesting that sIL6R is indispensable for miR-590-5p in modulating the host antiviral response. Furthermore, miR-590-5p down-regulated endogenous sIL6R and mIL6R expression through a translational repression mechanism. These findings thus uncover a previously uncharacterized role and the underlying mechanism of miR-590-5p in the innate immune response to viral infection.

Abstract:
Objective MicroRNA-590-5p (miR-590-5p) has been reported to stimulate osteoblast differentiation; however, its effect in diabetic osteoporosis remains unknown. This study investigated the effect of miR-590-5p on high glucose (HG)-suppressed osteoblast differentiation. Methods The effect of HG on MC3T3-E1 cell survival was assessed using the MTT assay. The expression levels and activities of osteoblastic proteins were evaluated by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), alkaline phosphatase (ALP) assay, and immunoblotting assay. Tumor growth factor-β (TGF-β) signaling in MC3T3-E1 cells was assessed using luciferase assay, qRT-PCR, and immunoblotting. Mineralized nodule formation in MC3T3-E1 cells was examined by using the mineralization assay. Results When MC3T3-E1 cells were exposed to HG conditions, there was significant downregulation of miR-590-5p and osteoblastic proteins (e.g., collagen I, Runx2, and ALP); in contrast, Smad7 was upregulated. Furthermore, miR-590-5p targeted Smad7 and inhibited its expression. Additionally, overexpression of miR-590-5p significantly promoted osteoblast growth and differentiation by upregulating TGF-β signaling in HG-treated MC3T3-E1 cells. Conclusions Collectively, the results showed that miR-590-5p was involved in osteogenesis; moreover, miR-590-5p may represent a potential target for the treatment of diabetic osteoporosis.

Abstract:
Plasmogenes are largely located in mitochondria or plastids and they can influence the inheritance of many plant characteristics. This phenomenon is called cytoplasmic inheritance and can be detected on the basis of the expression of a trait in progeny F1 obtained from single and reciprocal crosses. The aim of this study was to examine the cytoplasmic inheritance of <i>in vitro</i> productivity of morphogenesis in three genotypes of Fragaria x ananassa Duch., i.e. the cultivars 'Dukat', 'Teresa' and the breeding clone no. 590. Single and reciprocal crosses were done according to Griffi ng's method 3. The value of general combining ability (GCA) indicated cv. 'Teresa' as the best maternal component for crossing and 'Dukat' as the worst. The negative reciprocal cross effects (rij) revealed the cytoplasmic inheritance for cv. 'Dukat' as maternal form and positive rij for the breeding clone no. 590 indicated the nuclear inheritance of morphogenetic ability. Cv. 'Teresa', as maternal component, showed nuclear inheritance of that trait in crossing with cv. 'Dukat' and with 590 cytoplasmic inheritance. The productivity of morphogenesis in strawberry depended on the parental combination and the direction of crossing.

Abstract:
In the year 590, when a devastating plague swept through Rome, Pope Gregory I endeavored to uplift and support the Roman population. The most significant primary source that provides invaluable insights into this historical event is The Histories of Gregory of Tours. He vividly portrays the stunning disasters of inundation and plague that occurred in Rome in 590, overlaying them with apocalyptic imagery. This paper argues that it is necessary to understand Gregory of Tours’ writing from the perspective of disaster narratives specific to medieval historical writing. Furthermore, The Dialogues of Pope Gregory I is another source that allows us to glimpse the experiences of pestilence in Rome. It contains accounts of the victims who endured this catastrophic epidemic. Notably, it presents the figure of Death not only as dragon but also as Moors who appear to claim a dying person’s soul. This paper undertakes a re-examination of these primary sources in order to gain insight into how people perceived and experienced the plague and death during the end of the 6th century.

Abstract:
From the fifth through to the eighth century an ecclesiastical official, the apocrisiarius, streamlined the effective governance of both Church and Empire by serving as the pope's permanent representative at the imperial Byzantine court. The letters of a former apocrisiarius, Pope Gregory i, serve as the best sources for uncovering the duties of this office and its benefits to the Church and the Empire. Investigating this office under Gregory emphasises the independent ambassadorial mandate given to these men and highlights the vital role of personal relationships in the conduct of imperial business.

Abstract I surveyed the peer-reviewed literature for studies on crayfish population genetics over the last 20 years (1996 to 2015). My objectives were to determine if there is research disparities based on crayfish conservation status, ecological group, geographic location, and genetic methods used. Additionally, I wished to determine overall trends in crayfish genetics related to population variability, systematics, and technique development. An extensive literature search yielded 201 peer-reviewed articles with genetic information published on 335 of the 590 crayfish species found worldwide. The majority of peer-reviewed articles took place in Europe and Australia/Oceania despite the fact that crayfish biodiversity is greatest in North America. Crayfish within each ecological group (primary burrowers, lotic inhabitants, lentic inhabitants, and stygobitic species) are represented in these published papers. I found published articles on ~ 57% of the estimated 590 extant species. Further, of the 173 species listed as critically endangered, endangered, vulnerable, or as near threatened by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, I found published research on ~ 62% of these species in these classifications thus indicating a knowledge gap for many imperiled species. This lack of basic genetic (and ecological) information is significant as species designation is often used to determine where we should focus our conservation actions. Understanding what constitutes a single interbreeding population and identifying taxonomic designations are priorities for defining conservation management plans.

There have been presented the study results of 11 collection hulled oats samples in comparison with the standard variety ‘Krechet’ conducted at the Falenskaya selection station of the FARC the North-East (the Kirov region) in 2018–2020. The purpose of the current study was to identify sources stable on the trait ‘1000-grain weight’ for the breeding of hulled oats by estimating the adaptability parameters. The soil of the experimental plot was sod-podzolic, medium loamy, the meteorological conditions were contrasting in temperature and precipitation. In the favorable year of 2019, the 1000-grain weight was the highest (34.6–45.9 g), the index of environmental conditions was positive (Ij = 1.6). In the unfavorable year of 2020, the 1000-grain weight was 31.3–41.8 g and the index of environmental conditions was negative (Ij = -1.5). There have been identified the adaptable sources (IEP = 1.08–1.00) ‘15330 KSI 590/05’ (Russia), ‘15388 Saltaret’ (Moldova), ‘15423 Prelekst’, ‘15426 Werva’ (Germany); the stable sources according to the relative stability of the trait (St2 = 0.99–0.91) ‘15280 55 h 2106’, ‘15331 CSI 2167/03’ (Russia), ‘15297 Geszti’ (Hungary), ‘15388 Saltaret’ (Moldova), ‘15428 Bohum’ (Poland), ‘15420 Leniak’ (Germany); the sources with a high level of intensity (I = 24.5 and 19.30%) – ‘15329 CSI 639/05’, ‘15330 CSI 590/05’ and homeostaticity (Hom = 25.28–11.96) ‘15280 55 h 2106’ (Russia), ‘15297 Geszti’ (Hungary), ‘15388 Saltaret’ (Moldova); the sources responsive to favorable growing conditions (Kp = 1.11–1.28) ‘15329 KSI 639/05’, ‘15330 KSI 590/05’, ‘15331 KSI 2167/03’ (Russia), ‘15414 Enostar’ (Germany); the most adaptive sources in terms of the sum of ranks ‘15330 CSI 590/05’ and ‘15329 CSI 639/05’ (Russia), ‘15388 Saltaret’ (Moldova), ‘15426 Werva, ‘15414 Enostar’ (Germany). ABSTRACT Mycobacterium tuberculosis RNA polymerase is 1,000-fold more sensitive to rifampin than Escherichia coli RNA polymerase. Chimeric E. coli RNA polymerase in which the β-subunit segment encompassing rifampin regions I and II (amino acids [aa] 463 through 590) was replaced with the corresponding region from M. tuberculosis (aa 382 through 509) did not show an increased sensitivity to the antibiotic. Thus, the difference in amino acid sequence between the rifampin regions I and II of the two species does not account for the difference in rifampin sensitivity of the two polymerases.

A novel approach for cascade diode lasers was developed based on type-I quantum wells (QWs). This design adopted the leaky window effect in the GaSb / InAs band alignment for cascade pumping, and exploits the carriers recycling by the cascade pumping and the high optical gain of the type-I QWs. Two-stage cascade lasers were designed and fabricated for 2.45 and 3.0 μm, demonstrating twofold improvement in the internal efficiency. Record continuous-wave (CW) output power of 1.2 W for 2.45 um and 590 mW for 3.0 um were achieved in room temperature (RT), and the devices operate with higher power conversion efficiency at high power level, compared to conventional single-stage diode lasers.

Abstract:
In modern scholarship, Pope Gregory I “the Great” (590–604) is often simultaneously considered the final scion of classical Rome and the first medieval pope. The letania septiformis, a procession organized into seven groups that Gregory instituted in 590 in the face of plague and disease (and performed only once thereafter in 603), has similarly been construed as the very moment when Antiquity died and the Middle Ages were born. However, his Roman contemporaries in the papal curia largely ignored Gregory and his purportedly epochal procession. In fact, memory of the procession languished in Italy until the late-eighth century when Paul the Deacon made it the center of his Life of Gregory. At Rome, remembrance of the procession lay dormant in the papal archives until John the Deacon dug it out in the late-ninth century. How then did the letania septiformis come to be judged so pivotal? Over the course of centuries, the letania septiformis was inventively re-elaborated in literature, liturgy, and legend as part of the re-fashioning of the memory of Gregory. Shorn of its context, the letania septiformis gained greater imaginative power, becoming the emblem of Gregory's pontificate, if not also of an historical era.

Abstract:
AbstractIn this study, I propose supervisors’ upward leader–leader exchange relationships as an important boundary condition for the relationship between average leader–member exchange (LMX) relationships and a climate for innovation support at the group level. Specifically, I argue that the effect of resource spillover to poor-LMX subordinates within a work group is an important mechanism that leads to the development of a climate that supports innovation. I test the hypothesized moderated-mediation model by using multisource and multiwave data collected from 590 employees and 75 supervisors. The findings indicate that the indirect effect of team LMX relationships on team effectiveness via a climate for innovation support is more positive under high conditions of leader–leader exchange, whereas the effect is less positive under low conditions of leader–leader exchange. Implications and limitations relevant to developing research around LMX and innovation are addressed.

The chicken vitellogenin II gene is transcriptionally activated by estrogens. In transient transfection experiments in human T47D cells that contain receptors for various steroids, we showed estradiol, progestin, and androgen responses of a chimeric chicken vitellogenin II construct. This construct consists of DNA sequences from -626 to -590 upstream of the start of transcription of the chicken vitellogenin gene linked to the herpes simplex virus thymidine kinase promoter driving the transcription of the bacterial chloramphenicol acetyltransferase gene. Treatment of the transfected T47D cells with a combination of estradiol and the progestin R5020 led to a superinduction of chloramphenicol acetyltransferase activity, showing a synergistic action of these two steroids. This synergism was not observed upon treatment of the transfected cells with estradiol and the androgen dihydrotestosterone. Using point mutations in the vitellogenin gene fragment, we showed in functional and in in vitro DNase I footprinting assays with a purified progesterone receptor that, for the synergistic action of estradiol and R5020 to occur, the progesterone receptor must be bound to the vitellogenin gene fragment. The progesterone receptor-binding site was localized at -610 to -590, close to the consensus sequence (-626 to -613) for estrogen receptor binding and function. We therefore demonstrate here that two different steroid hormones can be functionally synergistic through the interaction of their corresponding receptors with two different binding sites adjacent to one another.

Abstract:
A metaheuristic algorithm named the Crystal Structure Algorithm (CrSA), which is inspired by the symmetric arrangement of atoms, molecules, or ions in crystalline minerals, has been used for the accurate modeling of Mono Passivated Emitter and Rear Cell (PERC) WSMD-545 and CS7L-590 MS solar photovoltaic (PV) modules. The suggested algorithm is a concise and parameter-free approach that does not need the identification of any intrinsic parameter during the optimization stage. It is based on crystal structure generation by combining the basis and lattice point. The proposed algorithm is adopted to minimize the sum of the squares of the errors at the maximum power point, as well as the short circuit and open circuit points. Several runs are carried out to examine the V-I characteristics of the PV panels under consideration and the nature of the derived parameters. The parameters generated by the proposed technique offer the lowest error over several executions, indicating that it should be implemented in the present scenario. To validate the performance of the proposed approach, convergence curves of Mono PERC WSMD-545 and CS7L-590 MS PV modules obtained using the CrSA are compared with the convergence curves obtained using the recent optimization algorithms (OAs) in the literature. It has been observed that the proposed approach exhibited the fastest rate of convergence on each of the PV panels.

Abstract:
The purpose of this retrospective study was to evaluate the survival rate by comparing Class II restoration using flowable resin composite with stainless steel crown in primary molars. Electronic medical records and radiographs of 1,504 primary molars with proximal caries of 590 patients from June 2015 to August 2019 were analyzed. With the collected data, survival analysis was performed using the Kaplan-Meier method. The 1-year survival rate of flowable resin composite in the primary molar was 98.5%, 3-year survival rate was 87.7%, and mean survival time was 39 months. There was no statistically significant difference between flowable resin composite and stainless steel crown (<i>p</i> = 0.896). Within the limits of this study, Class II restoration using flowable resin composite can be considered a promising option for the treatment of proximal caries in primary molars.

Abstract:
Activation of liver Ito cells is characterized by increased proliferation, fibrogenesis, loss of cellular retinoid and change of cell-shape. Here, we have described fundamental differences between freshly isolated Ito cells (FIC) and long-term cultured Ito cells (LTIC). This process of activation correlates with the absence of expression of Pro alpha 1(I) gene in FIC. LTIC expressed abundant transcripts of Pro alpha 1(I) gene. Nuclear run-off experiments showed the inability of FIC to support Pro alpha 1(I) RNA transcription while LTIC transcribed it greater than 5-fold as compared with FIC. Transforming growth factor beta (TGF beta)-treated LTIC had a preferential increase in the rate of Pro alpha 1(I) gene transcription as compared with control LTIC. A human collagen type I promoter-enhancer construct (pCOL-KT) [Thompson, Simkevich, Holness, Kang and Raghow (1991) J. Biol. Chem. 266, 2549-2556] was readily expressed in LTIC but failed to be expressed in FIC. Furthermore, TGF beta treatment of LTIC resulted in an increased expression of pCOL-KT. The deletion of an activator protein-1 (AP-1) binding site (+598 to +604) in the 360 bp enhancer region of pCOL-KT (S360) caused decreased expression of the CAT reporter gene, suggesting that this bonafide AP-1 site can, at least in part, mediate the transactivation effect of TGF beta. Using DNAase I protection, we demonstrate a single foot-print located at +590 to +625 in the S360 fragment; nuclear extracts prepared from TGF beta-treated LTIC exhibited greater activity of these AP-1 binding proteins. Gel mobility assays corroborated and extended the footprinting observation. No AP-1-binding activity was found in the nuclear extracts of FIC. Double-stranded oligonucleotides containing the consensus AP-1 motif were able to compete out the binding; consensus NF-1 motif oligonucleotides failed to do so. The preincubation of nuclear extracts from control and TGF beta-treated LTIC with antibodies against c-jun and c-fos rendered a reduced binding of AP-1 proteins to the target S360 fragment.

Abstract:
In eukaryotes ribosome biosynthesis starts with ribosomal RNA production by RNA polymerase I (Pol I), a process that is critical to regulate cell growth and proliferation. We were able to obtain the crystal structure of yeast Pol I, a 14-subunit complex with a total mass of 590 kDa, at 3.0 Å resolution [1]. The current communication deals with the functional implications of this beautiful structure, while details on structure determination will be presented by Tim Gruene at this meeting. The structure represents the latent state of the enzyme, characterized by three major features. First, it forms dimers that involve the C-terminal tail of the stalk subunit A43. Second, the two enzyme halves pivot along the DNA-binding cleft to produce an open cleft and an unfolded bridge helix. Third, an extended loop in subunit A190 mimics the DNA backbone along the cleft, hampering nucleic acid binding. All three features must be resolved during enzyme activation. The Pol I crystal structure also reveals intrinsic modules that only bind transiently in other RNA polymerases. Subunit A12.2 inserts a TFIIS-like zinc ribbon into the active site, providing insight into its role in RNA cleavage and Pol I insensitivity to α-amanitin. The A49-A34.5 heterodimer binds the outer side of subunit A135 through a TFIIF-like dimerization module, suggesting how it may function during transcriptional initiation and elongation.

Abstract:
Rodent CNS neuroblasts show parallel and perpendicular contact guidance behaviors on aligned neurite bundles in microexplant cultures (Nakatsuji, N. and Nagata, I. (1989) Development, 106, 441–447; N. I. and N. N. (1991) ibid., 112, 581–590). To test the hypothesis that the physical surface structure of the neurite bundle causes the perpendicular contact guidance, we cultured dissociated neuroblasts on quartz plates on which grating-like microstructures were fabricated by lithographic techniques. Various types of CNS neuroblasts, but not PNS neurons, oriented their processes and migrated both perpendicular and parallel to the axis of the microstructure. Perpendicular orientation was frequently observed when the microstructured grooves had depths between 0.3 micron and 0.8 micron and a width of 1 micron, which roughly mimics a tightly aligned neurite bundle. Thus, CNS neuroblasts have the ability to extend their processes and migrate perpendicular to aligned surface microstructures.

Here chemosensor materials of trinuclear copper (I) pyrazolate complexes have been successfully synthesized and isolated using two types of 3,5-dimethyl and 4-(3,5-dimethoxybenzyl)-3,5-dimethyl pyrazole ligands. Upon excitation at 280 nm, the resulting trinuclear 3,5-dimethyl copper (I) pyrazolate complex (complex A) and trinuclear 4-(3,5-dimethoxybenzyl) copper (I) pyrazolate complex (complex B) showed emission bands centered at 590 and 604 nm, respectively. These results were in good agreement with their greenish-white powders and it is characteristic of phosphorescent metal complexes from the weak Cu (I)-Cu (I) metallophilic interaction. Upon direct or stepwise exposure to ethanol vapor with series of concentrations (12.5, 25, 50, 100, 150 and 200μL in 22 mg of chemosensor), the emission of chemosensor complex A was not shifted even after 1 d. Interestingly, chemosensor complex B showed gradually changes in both emission band with shifting from 602 to 552 nm and color with changing from orange to green under Ultra-violet (UV) hand lamp (254 nm) at the dark room due to the attachment of benzyl ring to the pyrazole ligand. This positive response for chemosensor complex B was reversible; hence, this optical phosphorescent material can be used for developing vapochromic sensors of ethanol.

Abstract:
Abstract During the early COVID-19 pandemic, there was a decline in most cancer diagnoses. The aim of this study was to ascertain the extent and impact of this on skin cancer subtypes in England. This national retrospective cohort study identified all skin tumour cases diagnosed in 2019 and 2020 in England from the National Disease Registration Service ‘Get Data Out’ project. Incidence rate ratios (IRRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) and Poisson regression analysis were used to compare crude incidence rates (CIR) per 100 000 person-years (PY) in 2020 vs. 2019. In 2019, there were 233 717 skin tumours registered in England; this reduced to 191 127 (IRR 0.81, 95% CI 0.80–0.81, P &lt; 0.001) in 2020. A year prior to the pandemic, there were 15 355 (CIR 27.3 PY) melanomas, 7135 (CIR 12.7 PY) melanomas in situ, 48 112 (CIR 85.5 PY) cutaneous squamous cell carcinomas (cSCCs), 159 178 (CIR 283 PY) basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) and 363 (CIR 0.65 PY) Merkel cell carcinomas (MCCs). When comparing incidence rates for 2020 vs. 2019, significant reductions (P &lt; 0.001) were seen in all tumours except MCC: melanoma (IRR 0.81, 95% CI 0.79–0.83), melanoma in situ (IRR 0.65, 95% CI 0.63–0.68), cSCC (IRR 0.94, 95% CI 0.93–0.96), BCC (IRR 0.78, 95% CI 0.78–0.79) and MCC (IRR 0.93, 95% CI 0.80–1.08). For melanoma by stage, there were 8940 (CIR 22.6 PY) stage I, 2441 (CIR 6.18 PY) stage II, 1004 (CIR 2.54 PY) stage III, 385 (CIR 0.97 PY) stage IV and 2187 (CIR 5.53 PY) stage ‘unknown’ in 2019. The IRR for 2020 vs. 2019 showed significant reductions (P &lt; 0.001) for stage I (IRR 0.76, 95% CI 0.73–0.78) and stage ‘unknown’ melanomas (IRR 0.67, 95% CI 0.62–0.71), while changes were not significant for all other stages. During the 2020 COVID pandemic, there was a 19% reduction in diagnosed skin tumours in England. There was a differential impact between tumour types and stages, with the greatest reduction seen in melanoma in situ (−35%), stage I melanoma (−24%) and BCC (−22%), compared with MCC (−7%), cSCC (−6%) and stage II+ melanoma (+2%). The improvement to staging data in 2020 (−33% ‘unknown’ stage melanomas) limits interpretation, but these account for &lt; 15% of cases of melanoma. It is hypothesized that symptomatic and slow-growing tumours were not prioritized by patients and/or clinicians, potentially resulting in worse patient outcomes and increased burden on health services. This indicates a need for more time to study the impact of delayed diagnosis on survival, better public education on skin cancer recognition, and improved service provision during national emergencies.

There are several solutions to design tele-presence robots, e.g., Skype and team viewer, but it is pretty inappropriate to use Skype and extra hardware. Therefore, in this article, we have presented a robust implementation of the tele-presence robot. Our proposed omnidirectional tele-presence robot consists of (i) Tricon ultrasonic sensors, (ii) Kalman filter implementation and control, and (iii) integration of our developed WebRTC-based application with the omnidirectional tele-presence robot for video transmission. We present a new algorithm to encounter the sensor noise with the least number of sensors for the estimation of Kalman filter. We have simulated the complete model of robot in Simulink and Matlab for the tough paths and critical hurdles. The robot successfully prevents the collision and reaches the destination. The mean errors for the estimation of position and velocity are 5.77% and 2.04%. To achieve efficient and reliable video transmission, the quality factors such as resolution, encoding, average delay and throughput are resolved using the WebRTC along with the integration of the communication protocols. To protect the data transmission, we have implemented the SSL protocol and installed it on the server. We tested three different cases of video resolutions (i.e., 320×280, 820×460 and 900×590) for the performance evaluation of the video transmission. For the highest resolution, our TPR takes 3.5 ms for the encoding, and the average delay is 2.70 ms with 900 × 590 pixels.

"Fatty acid profile of duodenal digesta and of meat of feedlot beef cattle fed diets containing different levels of concentrate." Semina: Ciências Agrárias 40, no. 6Supl3 (October 16, 2019): 3629. http://dx.doi.org/10.5433/1679-0359.2019v40n6supl3p3629.

Abstract:
The objective of this study was to evaluate the fatty acid profile of duodenal digesta (experiment I) and of meat of beef cattle (experiment II) fed diets containing different levels of concentrate (220, 400, 590 and 790 g of concentrate/kg of dry matter of the diets). The experiment I was conducted with four Charolais-Nellore steers (460 ± 18.2 kg of BW), with a T-shaped duodenal cannula, using a double 4 × 4 Latin square as an experimental design. In experiment II, 16 crossbred Charolais-Nellore young bulls (192.44 ± 18.2 kg of BW) were randomly distributed in the experimental treatments (220, 400, 590 and 790 g of concentrate/kg of dry matter of the diets). The diets were isonitrogenous (120 g of crude protein/kg of dry matter). The intramuscular fat content was used as a covariant for the statistical analysis of the meat fatty acid profile. The duodenal content of fatty acid C17:0 decreased with increase of concentrate levels, while its content in the meat presented a quadratic variation with the increase of the concentrate levels of the diets, being the lowest values observed for the diet with 400 g of concentrate. The duodenal content of fatty acid C18:1 trans-11 decreased, whereas the content of this fatty acid in the meat increased with the increase of the dietary concentrate levels. The increase in the level of concentrate reduced the content of polyunsaturated fatty acids C18:3 n-3, C20:3 n-6, C20:4 n-6, and C20:5 n-3 EPA in both the duodenal digesta and meat. No difference was observed in the n-6/n-3 fatty acids ratio (mean of 13.96) of the meat between diets. The elevation of the level of concentrate in confinement diets reduces the nutraceutical quality of the meat of Charolais-Nellore young bulls slaughtered at 14-16 months of age due to the reduction of the polyunsaturated fatty acids content important for human health.

Abstract:
590 Background: We report on patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) who were treated with single fraction high-dose local stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) using the robotic Cyberknife system to avoid nephrectomy and consecutive hemodialysis. Methods: Fifty-two patients with histologically confirmed RCC and median age of 63.6 years (43.6-86.5) with the indication for renal surgery and highest risk for consecutive hemodialysis were entered into a prospective case control study of single fraction SRS with 25Gy. Tumor response, renal function, survival, and adverse events were estimated every three months with a follow-up of at least six months. Results: R.E.N.A.L. score was low in 1, moderate in 30 and high in 21 patients. 28 patients had singular renal units. Median follow-up was 26.9 months (1.8 - 52.6). Local tumor control nine months after SRS was 98% (95% CI: 89-99%). 43 lesions showed a measurable tumor size reduction including six complete remissions and 33 partial remissions. Renal function remained stable with a median serum creatinine at baseline of 1.10 mg/dl (0.4 -2.0) and 1.11 mg/dl (0.8-2.2) at follow-up. In one patient grade I erythrodermia, in three patients grade I fatigue and in two patients grade I nausea occurred. In all patients nephrectomy was avoided. Conclusions: Single-fraction SRS as an outpatient procedure is a treatment modality with short-term safety and efficacy to avoid treatment-related loss of renal function and hemodialysis in selected patients with RCC. Short term follow up of oncological and functional results so far is excellent. Further studies are needed to determine the limits of SRS in this setting and long term results.

Abstract:
Aims: We sought to investigate if mismatch repair (MMR) status influences the preoperative staging of local colon cancer. Methods: Data from 590 patients in the Danish Colorectal Cancer Group national clinical database who were operated on for stage I-III colon cancer in 2010-15 were included. MMR status was determined by immunohistochemistry. Results: 22.9% had deficient(d) MMR tumors. Correlation of the clinical and pathological T-category was significant for both groups. The correlation of pre- and postoperative N-category was inferior (p >0.05) in dMMR cancers compared to a significant (p <0.01) correlation in proficient MMR cancers. 64.8% of dMMR tumors assessed node-positive demonstrated no sign of metastatic involvement at the postoperative assessment. Conclusion: MMR status seems to impact the accuracy of preoperative lymph node staging.

Abstract:
MIS-type structures composed of silicon-rich oxide (SRO), thin films deposited by hot filament chemical vapor deposition (HFCVD), show interesting I-V and I-t properties under white light illumination and a response as photodetectors. From electrical measurements, it was found that at a reverse bias of −4 V, the illumination current increased by up to three orders of magnitude relative to the dark current, which was about 82 nA, while the photogenerated current reached a value of 25 μA. The reported MIS structure with SRO as the dielectric layer exhibited a hopping conduction mechanism, and an ohmic conduction mechanism was found with low voltage. I-t measurements confirmed the increased photogenerated current. Furthermore, the MIS structure, characterized by current-wavelength (I-λ) measurements, exhibited a maximum responsivity value at 254 mA/W, specific detectivity (D*) at 2.21 × 1011 cm Hz1/2 W−1, and a noise equivalent power (NEP) of 49 pW at a wavelength of 535 nm. The structure exhibited good switching behavior, with rise and fall times between 120 and 150 ms, respectively. These rise and decay times explain the generation and recombination of charge carriers and the trapping and release of traps, respectively. These results make MIS-type structures useful as photodetectors in the 420 to 590 nm range.
