Abstract:
Pyrrolepolyamide-2′-deoxyguanosine hybrids (Hybrid2and Hybrid3) incorporating the 3-aminopropionyl or 3-aminopropyl linker were designed and synthesized on the basis of previously reported results of a pyrrolepolyamide-adenosine hybrid (Hybrid1). Evaluation of the DNA binding sequence selectivity of pyrrolepolyamide-2′-deoxyguanosine hybrids was performed by CD spectral andTmanalyses. It was shown that Hybrid3possessed greater binding specificity than distamycin A, Hybrid1and Hybrid2.

Abstract:
The incorporation of hybrid systems based on renewable sources for the optimization of electricity distribution systems and planning of power supply strategies using genetic algorithms (GA) is studied. A series of characteristics of electrical sub-stations was chosen and through simulations, data were obtained for the optimization of the existing infrastructure, which provides reliability, security, economic supply and quality of service. An algorithm was obtained with the optimal configuration of various components: photovoltaic panels, batteries, AC generator, fuel cell and inverter, which in the case of mono-objective optimization, minimized total system costs throughout its useful life. The most appropriate control strategy or combination of control variables was obtained to minimize costs. Keywords: Electrical distribution, Hybrid systems, Genetic algorithms. References [1]D. F. Abstract:
The growing interest in anticancer hybrids in the last few years has resulted in a great number of reports on hybrid design, synthesis and bioevaluation. Many novel multi-target-directed drug candidates were synthesized, and their biological activities were evaluated. For the design of anticancer hybrid compounds, the molecules of stilbenes, aromatic quinones, and heterocycles (benzimidazole, imidazole, pyrimidine, pyridine, pyrazole, quinoline, quinazoline) were applied. A distinct group of hybrids comprises the molecules built with natural compounds: Resveratrol, curcumin, coumarin, and oleanolic acid. In this review, we present the studies on bioactive hybrid molecules of a well-known tubulin polymerization inhibitor, combretastatin A-4 and its analogs with other pharmacologically active entities. The mechanism of anticancer activity of selected hybrids is discussed considering the structure-activity relationship.

Abstract:
Grain yield potential of new maize hybrid varieties across target environments contributes to the uptake of these varieties by farmers. Evaluation of single-cross hybrids developed from test crossing introgressed inbred lines bred for three distinct environments to elite tropical inbred line testers was carried out. The study’s objective was to assess grain yield stability and genotype adaptability of the single-cross hybrids across South African environments relative to adapted commercial hybrid checks. One hundred and twenty-two introgressed inbred lines developed using the pedigree breeding program were crossed to four tropical elite inbred line testers using line × tester mating design to obtain 488 experimental single cross hybrids. Subject to availability of adequate seed for evaluation, a panel of 444 experimental single-cross hybrids was evaluated using an augmented design in two experiments defined as Population A and B for the study’s convenience in South African environments. Data for grain yield (t/ha) performance for experimental single-cross hybrids and commercial check hybrids in Population A and B across environments and individual environments identified experimental single-cross hybrids that had significant comparable grain yield (t/ha) performance relative to best commercial check hybrid (PAN6Q445B) on the market. The selected experimental single-cross hybrids 225, 89, 246 and 43 (Population A) and 112 (Population B) also had a better average rank position for grain yield (t/ha) relative to best commercial check hybrid. These selected experimental single-cross hybrids had a grain yield (t/ha) advantage range of 0.9-6.7% for Population A and 7.3% for Population A and B, respectively, relative to the adapted commercial check hybrid. GGE biplot patterns for which won-where for Population A indicated that at Potchefstroom Research Station and Ukulinga Research Station experimental single-cross hybrids 127 and135 were the vertex (winning) hybrids. Cedera Research Station did not have a vertex hybrid for Population A. For Population B, experimental single-cross hybrids 112, 117 and 18 were the vertex hybrids at Cedera Research Station, Ukulinga Research Station and Potchefstroom Research Station, respectively. Experimental single-cross hybrid 257 was identified as ideal genotype for Population A, while experimental single-cross hybrid 121 in Population B was the ideal genotype. Ideal environments were also identified as Ukulinga Research Station for Population A, and Cedera Research Station for Population B. Average-environment coordination (AEC) view of the GGE biplot in Population A indicated that experimental single-cross hybrids 1 was highly stable across environments. In comparison, Population B experimental single-cross hybrid 161 was highly stable across environments. In conclusion, selected single-cross hybrids in the current study can also be advanced for further evaluation with a possibility for identifying high yielding and stable single-cross hybrids for variety registration and release in target environments in South Africa.

The purpose of this publication is to create and correctly analyse a secondary RF line for a hybrid FSO/RF system. Since we want to ensure almost 100% functionality, the design of a secondary RF line is very important. In our case, we have chosen two types of antennas. First, it was a helical antenna that achieves a high level of efficiency and much smaller dimensions compared to horn antennas. The second type was just a horn antenna. Its advantages are high efficiency, high gain, and narrow width of radiation angle. However, large disadvantages are dimensions and the price of these antennas. However, in both cases, we can say that these antennas are suitable for deployment to our hybrid FSO/RF system.

Abstract:
Despite recent advances in sport-for-development (SFD) literature, few scholars have empirically examined organizational hybridity in SFD contexts. This is despite hybrid organizational approaches becoming increasingly common in the delivery of SFD initiatives. Opportunities exist for researchers to build knowledge regarding SFD hybrids, particularly those which operate in professional sport contexts. In this research, we examine an SFD organization, delivered by a professional sport team, which operates under a hybrid structure. A longitudinal qualitative case study design was employed, and findings demonstrate how the SFD organization, which presents a practical example of organizational hybridity, evolved over time. Drawing upon Svensson typologies of SFD hybrids, results illustrate how the organization transformed from a differentiated hybrid into a dysfunctional hybrid, under the influence of funding opportunities and institutional logics. Through the present study, we build upon theoretical understandings of SFD hybrids and offer practical insight into the nuances of SFD hybrids delivered in professional sport contexts.

Abstract:
Superiority of hybrid maize cannot be overemphasized. Different types of hybrids are developed by plant breeders to improve productivity and multi-locational evaluation of these hybrids prior to release is necessary to select the best. The objectives of this study were to identify maize hybrids with superior agronomic potentials and compare the performance of top-cross and three-way cross hybrid maize varieties for grain yield and related traits under rain-fed condition in three different locations (Abeokuta, Ibadan and Akure) of Southwest Nigeria. The study consisted of ten hybrids each of top-cross and three-way cross hybrid varieties, tested with two checks. At each location, the experiment was laid out in randomised complete block design with three replications. The results showed that effects of locations, genotypes and genotype x location interactions were highly significant (p<0.01) for all the traits evaluated. Significant differences were also revealed between the top-cross and three-way cross hybrids for all the traits evaluated except days to 50% tasseling, ear diameter and 100-grain weight. The top-cross hybrids were superior over the three-way cross hybrids for grain yield by 5.25%. The hybrids ‘M0926-7’, ‘M0926-8’, ‘M1026-11’, ‘M1026-3’, ‘M1226-2’ (top-cross hybrids), ‘M1124-24’, ‘M1124-27’, ‘M1124-31’, ‘M1227-6’ and ‘M1227-7’ (three-way cross hybrids) showed highest stable yields across the three locations. Hybrids ‘M0926-7’ (top-cross hybrid) and ‘M1124-24’ (three-way cross hybrid) that expressed early flowering with higher grain yield are recommended for drought stress prone areas because of their abilities to tolerate drought through escape.

Abstract:
The objective of this work was to evaluate the performance of three Japanese group cucumber hybrids, which were cultivated in two cultivation systems. The experiment was designed in a split-plot randomized block design with two cultivation systems (coconut fiber and soil) for commercial Japanese cucumber hybrids ('Tsuyataro', 'Yoshinari' and 'Nankyoku'). After harvesting the cucumbers, we evaluated the number of marketable fruits per plant, the average fruit length, the mean fruit diameter, the bottom fruit diameter, the marketable production of fruits per plant and the marketable yield per hectare. There were significant interactions between the cultivation system and the hybrid, as indicated by the number of marketable fruits. The Nankyoku hybrid had the highest average (14.54 fruits pl-1), although it did not differ from the Yoshinari hybrid when grown in coconut fiber. In soil culture, the Yoshinari hybrid had the highest average number of fruits per plant (10.12 fruits pl-1) and did not differ from the Tsuyataro hybrid. Cultivation in coconut fiber provided better results for production traits and plant productivity. 'Yoshinari' and 'Nankyoku' were the most productive hybrids. Based on the cucumber cultivation results from a protected environment, the cultivation of hybrid Japanese cucumbers and Yoshinari and Nankyoku hybrids in coconut fiber is recommended.

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to identify an eggplant donor line which possess the largest frequency of favourable alleles that control fruit yield. Such donor line should be used to improve the elite eggplant hybride K35 x K12. The fruit yield of the elite hybrid, its parents and their hybrids with three potential donor lines (K36/1, K11 and K22/2) was examined in a diallel set by means of field trials. The trials were set in a randomized block design in three replications. After the fruit yield had been measured, the modified method of evaluation of relative loci value according to Dudley (1987) was applied. Ali inbred lines expressed positive values of the ?G' parameter. The K11 inbred had the largest ?G' value (2.38) and, also, the lowest frequency of unfavourable alleles on the loci class D (1.33). It was established that the K11 inbred line was more related to the K35 parental inbred line (7.81). Consequently, on the basis of the ?D' values, improvement should be obtained by backcrossing the elite hybrid K35 x K11 to the donor inbred K11.

The 16 intersynthetic hybrids, 8 parcntal synthetics, and a single cross hybrid entry as a control were evaluated in four localities in a 5 x 5 simple lattice design with 4 replications. The yield performance of synthetics from Eto and Tuxpeño involving 6- 12 lines and the 3-lines Tuxpeño synthetics was similar (5.8 - 6.3 t/ha). However, the 3-1ine Eto synthctic registered a marked decrease in yield (5.1 t/ha). The bettcr parent heterosis of intersynthetic hybrids ranged from 11.1 to 29.6%. Usually, crosses among synthetics involving a fewer lines resulted in higher heterosis compared to synthetic crosses involving more than 3 lines. The results suggest that intersynthetic hybrids formed from 6 - 9 lines seem more appealing considering the level of heterosis (>20.0%) and a high yield per se of parental varieties. The intersynthetic hybrids offer an attractive option for those national programs with newly initiated hybrid projects, for creating hybrid -oriented maize germplasm and inbred line development.

Abstract:
In the Kharif season of 2021, a field experiment was conducted at the crop research farm of the Division of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir. The primary objective of the study was to investigate the phenology of maize hybrids in relation to agrometeorological indices. The experimental design included two factors: Factor A, representing different irrigation regimes at various growth stages (I1 to I6), and Factor B, consisting of two maize hybrid varieties (Shalimar Hybrid-2 and Shalimar Hybrid-3). The irrigation treatments ranged from early vegetation stage to rainfed conditions. The experiment followed a split plot design with three replications. Results indicated that the treatment I5 (Irrigation at IW/CPE ratio of 0.8) and Shalimar Hybrid-3 exhibited the highest values for key agrometeorological indices, including GDD, HTU, PTU, and HYTU. These findings provide valuable insights into optimizing irrigation practices and selecting suitable maize hybrids for enhanced phenological performance.

Abstract:
The demonstration of an economically sustainable level of heterosis for grain yield is a key factor which determines the commercial viability of hybrid wheat production. Identification of sufficient hybrid advantage involves testing hundreds, possibly thousands of hybrid combinations each year. The design of an effective hybrid evaluation program depends on the characterization of genotypexplant density interaction effects. These were examined at Narrabri, N.S.W., using six hybrids and their parents and two commercial hybrids planted in four replicate, randomized complete block design experiments using three different plot types, viz. hill plots, space planted plots and multi-row plots. The level of heterosis for grain yield varied depending upon the plot type, with least heterosis being observed in multi-row plots. While the genotypexplot type interaction was significant for grain yield, it was non-significant for yield heterosis. The relative rankings of hybrids did not alter across plot type. Highly significant phenotypic and genotypic correlations between plot types for yield indicated that each plot type provided comparable information on relative genotype performance. The lesser seed requirement and ease of planting points to hill plots being the preferred plot type for preliminary evaluation of hybrid performance. The modulation of heterosis level by plot type suggests that while hill plots will provide an efficient first evaluation, performance would need to be substantiated in multi-row plots.

Abstract:
Hybrid rice is derived from a cross between the cytoplasmic male sterile (CMS) as the female parent and the restorer line as the male parent. This study aimed to evaluate the ability of several new plant type (NPT) rice lines as restorers of the CMS female parent and to elucidate the performance of the hybrid combinations. The research was carried out from December 2019 to November 2020 at Babakan Sawah Baru Experimental Station, Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, IPB University, Bogor, Indonesia. The hybrids were evaluated in the field together with the CMS female parent, male parents, and two check varieties, namely Ciherang and hybrid P05 Prima Seed. The experimental design used was a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with two replications. The results showed that two male parental lines, IPB189-F-10-3-2 (T6) and IPB189-14-1-1 (T9), had a hybrid seed yield per hill of 66.04 g and 75.27 g, respectively. These two parents have the restorer gene (R) which is substantiated by the good characteristics of the number of filled grains and total grain per panicle of the two hybrids. The potential hybrids CMS x IPB189-F-10-3-2 and CMS x IPB189-14-1-1 had a positive heterosis for panicle length and 1,000 grain weight, and could be evaluated in future research. This text describes the current state of the art of HCCI technology, which is based on combining the characteristics of a petrol and diesel engine. HCCI engines offer higher fuel efficiency and lower nitrogen oxide emissions. However, they also have disadvantages such as limited load range, control complexity and cold weather starting problems. The next section of the text discusses hybrid propulsion, which uses a combination of an internal combustion engine and an electric motor. It describes the different types of hybrid powertrains such as soft hybrids, plug-in hybrids and full hybrids. Explains their advantages and possible applications. A solution is then proposed where the HCCI engine would serve as a generator in a series hybrid vehicle with an electric motor. Such an arrangement allows optimization of energy use and reduction of emissions. Finally, the relevance of HCCI technology for improving the efficiency of fuel engines and hybrid vehicle design is evaluated.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate ozone saturation and decomposition kinetics in porous medium containing grains of different hybrids of maize. The following hybrids were used: common maize hybrid AG 1051, super sweet maize hybrids Tropical Plus, GSS 42072, GSS 41499 and GSS 41243. 1 kg grain samples with water contents of 13.0% (w.b.) were placed in glass containers with 3.25 L capacity. The grains were ozonized at the concentration of 1.28 mg L-1, at 25 ºC, with gas flow rate of 5.0 L min-1. Saturation time and concentration, half-life time and physical properties such as apparent specific weight, actual specific weight, porosity, sphericity and circularity of each maize hybrid were determined. The experiments were conducted in a completely randomized design with three replicates, using regression analysis of the data. Ozone saturation times remained between 6.6 and 163.9 min, with saturation concentration varying from 0.34 to 1.12 mg L-1. As for the ozone half-life time, the highest value was 10.5 min for the common maize hybrid AG 1051 and the lowest value was 0.14 min for the super sweet maize hybrid GSS 41499. It was concluded that ozone saturation and decomposition kinetics in maize depends on the hybrid contained in the porous medium. Ozone decomposition is faster in porous medium containing super sweet maize hybrids compared with the common maize hybrid.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to critically explore hybrid organisations in health care. It examines the broad literature on hybrids focusing on issues of perspective, definition, sub-type and level. It then presents the results of the literature review of hybrid health care organisations, exploring which organisations have been viewed as hybrids, and then examining studies in more detail with respect to the research questions. Design/methodology/approach It critically explores the literature on hybrid organisations in health care through a structured search. Findings It is found that a wide variety of hybrid forms exist, but not clear what they combine or how they combine it. However, the level of depth from some of these studies is rather limited, with little consensus on definition, and relatively few drawing on any explicit conceptual perspective. It seems that the wider hybridity literatures have limited influence of studies of hybrid health care organisations. Originality/value As far as the authors are aware, this paper is the first attempt to critically review the literature on hybrid organisations in health care. It is concluded that it is difficult to define and explain hybrid health care organisations. Health care hybrids appear to be chameleons as they appear to be able to change their form to different observers.

Abstract:
The on-farm trials were conducted in three districts of west shewa zene, Oromia region, Ethiopia, to compare the performance of Promising hybrids under farmers field and promote one or two hybrids for possible release as commercial variety. Seven hybrids were evaluated using randomized complete block design (RCBD) in 2021 cropping season. The combined analysis of variance for three districts showed highly significant mean squares due to genotypes for all studied traits except ear position. Site*entry interaction showed significant mean variance only for grain yield (GY) indicating that, the performance of these genotypes were not consistent across sites for this trait. Hybrids SXH180174 and 3XH1900432 were the best performing genotypes for grain yield and some yield related traits. The single cross hybrid SXH180174 scored the highest grain yield (10.05 tons/ha) as compared to the checks and showed preferred plant and ear aspects. Accordingly this hybrid was recommended for variety verification trial stage for release as commercial hybrid in highland agro-ecology of the country.

In order to evaluate the performance of double-cross maize hybrids in planting dates suitable for fall growing season in the middle region of Iraq, a field experiment was conducted at the fields of the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences - University of Baghdad - Jadriya for the fall season of 2022 using double-cross maize hybrids selected from fifteen double cross hybrid maize resulted from crossing ten single hybrids resulting from crossing five inbred lines using the half-diallel method. These included Hybrid 1 = (1×4)(3×5) from the crossing of (ZM49W3E x CDCNS) (ZM43WIZE x ZM19), Hybrid 2 = (1×2)(3×5) from the crossing of (ZM49W3E × CDCN5) (ZM43WIZE x ZM60), Hybrid 3 = (1×5)(2×4) from the crossing of (ZM60 × ZM19) (ZM43WIZE ×CDN5), Hybrid 4 = (1×2)(4×5) from the crossing of (ZM19 × CDCN5) (ZM43WIZE ×ZM60), and Hybrid 5 = (1×4)(2×3) from the crossing of (ZM60 × ZM49W3E) (ZM43WIZE × ZM19), and their comparison with the synthetic variety IPA5018, and testing them under three planting dates: July 1st, July 15th, and August 1st. The experiment used a randomized complete block design with four replications arranged in a split-plot design. The main plots included the three planting dates, while the subplots included the five double-cross maize hybrids and the control variety. Yield and yield components were studied. The results of the experiment showed high significant effects for the third planting date for all traits except for the number of ears per plant, where the third planting date was superior in the number of grains per ears 660.4, weight of 100 grains 37.83 g , days to physiological maturity 99.67 days, crop growth rate 5.644 g plant-1 day-1, and yield per unit area 14.95 ton ha-1. The superiority of the hybrid (1×2)(3×5) in the number of grains ear-1 and the weight of 100 grains was 542.3 and 36.37, respectively., and this was reflected on the yield per unit area, which reached 11.69 ton ha-1, while hybrid (1×2) (3×5) outperformed in number of ears per plant 1.400 and the same hybrid was the earliest to reach physiological maturity at 97.50 days. The response of the double-cross maize hybrids varied with different planting dates and gave significant interaction for all studied traits except for the number of ears per plant.

Abstract:
Sorghum plants are well cultivated in central region of Brazil, which is originalmente low fertility and rich in aluminum content. These features demand studies to know better hybrids for such environment, mainly regarding the use of nutrients like nitrogen (N). This nutrient is the most limiting to plant growth, development, production and for this reason it is of great concern to understand the effects of low bases saturation on N use in biomass dedicated sorghum plants, that is hybrids used for bioenergy purpouses. With the aim to assess the effect of increasing liming rates on nitrogen use in biomass sorghum hybrids we set a greenhouse quantitative research as a completely randomized factorial experiment by using two sorghum hybrids (PA 5L60 and PA 5D61) under five different bases saturation (V%) – 15, 35, 40, 50 and 60. This experimental design allowed us to study five different concentrations of aluminum in this soil. The growth of both sorghum hybrid was impaired only under at V% 15. Nitrogen concentration, content and the N use efficiency indicators were affected at V% 15 for both sorghum hybrids; however, the hybrid PA 5D61 showed to be less sensitive than PA 5L60 under the studied conditions. The PCA analysis showed that the hybrid PA 5D61 showed to be more tolerant to aluminum and uses N more efficiently than the hybrid PA 5L60 and, therefore, we can argue that this hybrid should be used in marginal, low fertility lands as a feedstock producer for bioenergy.

Abstract:
The rationale for the following research was to analyse the response of sunflower hybrids to different sowing dates and to evaluate hybrid response to critical environmental conditions. The data used are from an experiment conducted in a location-year combination over a period of two years (2007–09) in southern Italy. Eleven hybrids were tested following a randomized complete block design with three replications at each location-year combination. Eight agronomic characters including seed oil content were recorded. Classification and ordination procedures were used to investigate hybrid performance in relation to three different sowing dates. Combined analysis of variance showed that hybrids, location-year combination, sowing date and their interactions were highly significant for all characters. Hybrid performances were classified by cluster analysis into groups that were differentiable in terms of means and stability. The first three components accounted for 74%, 82%, and 87% of the total variation for the first, second and third sowing date respectively. Plotting component one against component two along Euclidean axes should therefore provide a reasonable representation of the spatial arrangements of hybrid performances in the original multi-dimensional space. The applied statistical method gives full information on hybrid performances similarity.

UDK 631.8(497.6 Čapljina) The concentration and form of some metals and metalloids in soil is governed by many chemical and physical properties of soil as pH, redox, Fe, Al ions and soil composition. The paper studied presents influence of chemical soil properties, environment conditions and selenium fertilization rate applied on ions status of zinc, cadmium, selenium and iron in soil and plant material, as well as specific adsorption of these ions in two different maize hybrids. The study was conducted at the farm Vita-Vi Višići (Čapljina). The experiment design was a completely randomized design with two hybrids, four different fertilization treatments in four replications. The experimental area was implemented standard agricultural management practices of preparation, tillage, fertilization, application of protective agents. Hybrid NP Pako is selected in order to achieve a high yield, and M34 hybrid for quality yield. The test results and statistical analysis revealed no significant difference in the yield of hybrids combined with different fertilization treatments. Accumulation of selenium, zinc, cadmium and iron in upper ground plant part of maize was not affected by fertilization treatments or selected hybrid. The highest yield was achieved by hybrid M34 Pioneer of 37.6 t ha- 1and the highest yield was obtained in application of third fertilization treatment 20 kg NaSeO4ha-1, but without statistically significant differences comparing to other hybrid or applied treatments. The highest content of selenium in the plant was found in hybrid NP PAKO 0.06 mg Se kg-1 of dry matter of maize applying the fourth liquid fertilization treatment (20 kg Na2SeO4ha-1) but also without statistically significant difference comparing to other hybrid or fertilization treatment. Content of zinc, cadmium and iron in soil or plant material had not shown significant differences due to the applied fertilization or used maize hybrids, but some fluctuations were observed. Selenium fertilization did not have a limiting effect on the formation of the yield and tested elements, but its mobility and availability in soil and plant depends also on other factors as soil properties and climatic conditions of growing season.

Abstract:
Background:Malaria, caused by the deadly Plasmodium falciparum strain, claims the lives of millions of people annually. The emergence of drug-resistant strains of P. falciparum to the artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT), the last line of defense against malaria, is worrisome and urges for the development of new chemo-types with a new mode of action. In the search of new antimalarial agents, hybrids of triazoles and other known antimalarial drugs have been reported to possess better activity than either of the parent compounds administered individually. Despite their better activity, no hybrid antimalarial drugs have been developed so far. Objective:In the hope of developing new antimalarial prototypes, we propose the design, synthesis and antimalarial evaluation of novel sulfoximine-triazole hybrids owing to their interesting biological and physiological properties. Methods:The sulfoximine part of the hybrid will be synthesized via imidation of the corresponding sulfoxide. Propargylation of the NH moiety of the sulfoximine followed by copper-catalyzed click chemistry with benzyl azide was envisaged to provide the target sulfoximine-triazole hybrids. Results:Five novel sulfoximine-triazole hybrids possessing various substituents on the sulfoximine moiety have been successfully synthesized and evaluated for their antiplasmodial and cytotoxicity activities. The results revealed that the co-presence of the sulfoximine and triazole moieties along with a lipophilic alkyl substituent on the sulfur atom impart significant activity.Conclusion:Sulfoximine-triazole hybrids could be used as a prototype for the synthesis of new derivatives with better antiplasmodial activities.

Abstract:
Sterile hybrids often outyield their fertile counterparts, especially if pollinated by a genetically unrelated pollinator. The combined effect of cms and xenia is referred to as the Plus-hybrid effect. The objective of this study was to determine the individual, as well as, combining effect of cms and xenia on the maize grain chemical composition. The percent of oil, protein and starch in the grain was also observed. Two sterile hybrids, their fertile counterparts and five fertile pollinator-hybrids were selected for the studies. The three-replicate trial set up according to the split-plot experimental design was performed at Zemun Polje in 2008. The obtained results show that the effects of cms on the oil percent was not significant in the studied hybrid ZP 341, while it increased at the significance level of P = 0.1 in the second observed hybrid ZP 360. The effect of this factor on the protein and starch percent was also significant (P = 0.01) in some hybrid combinations. Xenia effects on all three chemical parameters were significant (P = 0.01) in some hybrid combinations. The gained results indicate that the identification of a good combination of two hybrids, in which one would be a sterile female component, and the other a pollinator, would end up not only in the increased yield, but also in the improved maize grain quality.

Abstract:
In recent years, National Maize Research Program (NMRP) aimed a paradigm shift from open-pollinated varieties (OPVs) towards hybrid maize to achieve self-sufficiency in maize for food, feed, and hybrid seed within the country. In this mission, it is necessary to identify and deploy high-yielding stress-resilient maize hybrids that can cope with climate change effects, including heat stress. Under the project “Heat Tolerant Maize for Asia (HTMA)”, NMRP introduced the hybrids that performed better in previous years in different environments from International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) Hyderabad for multilocation on-farm testing. Fifteen genotypes were evaluated at two locations, two sites in Madi, Chitwan, and one in Ghorahi, Dang, along with Rampur Hybrid-8 as a heat-tolerant check, and RML-86/RML-96 and RML-95/RML-96 as normal checks. Randomized complete block design (RCBD) was used with three replicates during the spring of 2016/17. Likewise, another 20 and 18 promising hybrids were demonstrated during the winter of 2016/17 and 2017/18, respectively, in different hybrid growing pockets considering a site – a replication. Grain yield and yield attributing traits at all locations were recorded. From the across-site data analysis, selected heat-tolerant hybrids from the experiment were CAH1432, ZH15405, ZH141592, and CAH1715 which were statistically at par with promising normal hybrid RML-86/RML-96 and superior to already released heat-tolerant Rampur Hybrid-8. Abstract:
The experiment was carried out during May, 2023 to April, 2024 to study the effect of seed germination and seedling growth of different Adenium hybrids in naturally ventilated polyhouse in the Department of Horticulture, SHUATS, Prayagraj. The different hybrids used in the experiment were White Zombie, Green Arabicum, Hulk, Super Dork Dork, RCN, KHZ, PBN, Godji x Red Bangle, Godji F2 and Gc x GT in completely randomized design and each hybrid was replicated thrice. The experimental results revealed that hybrid PBN reported significantly better performance in parameters like germination percentage (100%), days to 50% germination (4.4), seedling vigour index (1813.33), germination speed index (1.15), survival percentage (100%), seedling height (11.07cm), number of leaves per seedlings (16.67), leaf area (15cm2) and caudex diameter (3.93cm) which was found to be at par with hybrid RCN. Hence, hybrids PBN and RCN could be recommended for Prayagraj agro-climatic conditions.

Abstract:
With increasing research interest in the field of flexible electronics and wearable devices, intensive efforts have been paid to the development of novel inorganic-organic hybrid materials. As a newly developed two-dimensional (2D) material family, MXenes present many advantages compared with other 2D analogs, especially the variable surface terminal groups, thus the infinite possibility for the regulation of surface physicochemical properties. However, there is still less attention paid to the interfacial compatibility of the MXene-organic hybrids. To this end, this review will briefly summarize the recent progress on MXene-organic hybrids, offers a deeper understanding of the interaction and collaborative mechanism between the MXenes and organic component. After the discussion of the structure and surface characters of MXenes, strategies towards MXene-organic hybrids are introduced based on the interfacial interactions. Based on different application scenarios, the advantages of MXene-organic hybrids in constructing flexible devices are then discussed. The challenges and outlook on MXene-organic hybrids are also presented.

Abstract:
The F1 hybrid sterility in indica/japonica crosses is the major barrier in developing hybrid rice varieties between these two diverse germplasm. The sterility problem in japonica/indica hybrids can be overcome by using wide compatibility genes. The objective of this study was to identify wide compatibility varieties (WCVs) in some tropical japonica rice. Twenty five tropical japonica varieties as male parents were crossed with indica (IR64) and japonica (Akitakomachi) testers as female parents. The crosses were planted following a randomized complete block design with three replications. Varieties having average spikelet fertility of more than 70% with both the indica and japonica testers were rated as WCVs. Result from this study showed that six tropical japonica varieties were classified as WCVs, i.e., Cabacu, Grogol, Kencana Bali, Klemas, Lampung Lawer, and Napa. Hybrid sterility is caused by partial sterility of male and female gametes. The WCVs from the present study can be used in hybrid rice breeding program to solve hybrid sterility in indica/japonica hybrids.

Abstract:
A novel series of hybrid compounds comprising quinazolin-4-one and 3-cyanopyridin-2-one structures has been developed, with dual inhibitory actions on both EGFR and BRAFV600E. These hybrid compounds were tested in vitro against four different cancer cell lines. Compounds 8, 9, 18, and 19 inhibited cell proliferation significantly in the four cancer cells, with GI50 values ranging from 1.20 to 1.80 µM when compared to Doxorubicin (GI50 = 1.10 µM). Within this group of hybrids, compounds 18 and 19 exhibited substantial inhibition of EGFR and BRAFV600E. Molecular docking investigations provided confirmation that compounds 18 and 19 possess the capability to inhibit EGFR and BRAFV600E. Moreover, computational ADMET prediction indicated that most of the newly synthesized hybrids have low toxicity and minimal side effects.

Abstract:
This study was conducted to determine combining ability and gene action in elite maize inbred lines under low and high soil nitrogen conditions for hybrid breeding. Forty two tropical inbred lines (three testers and 39 lines) were crossed using line × tester mating design. The resulting 117 F1 hybrids, along with 4 hybrids used as checks, were evaluated using an 11 × 11 lattice design with two replications for grain yield and yield related traits during the 2012 and 2013 cropping seasons at two sites (Mbalmayo and Nkolbisson). Results revealed predominant additive gene effect under high soil nitrogen (N) conditions. Non-additive gene effect influenced grain yield under low soil and thus could be exploited for hybrid development. Under high N conditions inbred lines CLYN246, J16-1, CLWN201, TL-11-A-1642-5, CLQRCWQ26 and 1368 were good general combiners. Lines CML 343, ATP S6 20-Y-1, CLWN201, 1368, ATP S9 30 Y-1 and CLQRCWQ26 were good general combiners for grain yield under low N. They could be used to develop low N tolerant varieties. Different single cross hybrid combinations were identified for high grain yields under both low and high N conditions. The selected lines and single cross hybrids are a useful source of valuable genetic material for future maize hybrid breeding or direct production under low N.
