Abstract:
The aim of this thesis is to calculate the stiffness and damping coefficients for radial hydrodynamic bearings. Cylindrical and lemon hydrodynamic bearings are considered. The solution to this problem mainly depends on the hydrodynamic pressure in the bearing. The numerical solution of the Reynolds equation is used to calculate the pressure. The effect of variable viscosity and density of the lubricant due to temperature changes is considered. The static equilibrium position of the journal centre is also solved. The stiffness and damping coefficients are determined using small amplitude journal motions about the equilibrium position. Three methods for determining these coefficients are presented. The outcome of this thesis is an algorithm for the calculation of stiffness and damping coefficients for cylindrical and lemon bearings. Results for lemon bearings are presented and comparison with the commercial software DynRot BR is made. The benefit of this thesis is the creation of an algorithm for the calculation of journal centre equilibrium position, a new way of incorporating the temperature changes in the viscosity and the density of the lubricant, and the modification of a method for calculating stiffness and damping coefficients based on experimental analogy.

Abstract:
This work deals with designing and testing of new acoustic features for analysis of dysprosodic speech occurring in hypokinetic dysarthria patients. 41 new features for dysprosody quantification (describing melody, loudness, rhythm and pace) are presented and tested in this work. New features can be divided into 7 groups. Inside the groups, features vary by the used statistical values. First four groups are based on absolute differences and cumulative sums of fundamental frequency and short-time energy of the signal. Fifth group contains features based on multiples of this fundamental frequency and short-time energy combined into one global intonation feature. Sixth group contains global time features, which are made of divisions between conventional rhythm and pace features. Last group contains global features for quantification of whole dysprosody, made of divisions between global intonation and global time features. All features were tested on Czech Parkinsonian speech database PARCZ. First, kernel density estimation was made and plotted for all features. Then correlation analysis with medicinal metadata was made, first for all the features, then for global features only. Next classification and regression analysis were made, using classification and regression trees algorithm (CART). This analysis was first made for all the features separately, then for all the data at once and eventually a sequential floating feature selection was made, to find out the best fitting combination of features for the current matter. Even though none of the features emerged as a universal best, there were a few features, that were appearing as one of the best repeatedly and also there was a trend that there was a bigger drop between the best and the second best feature, marking it as a much better feature for the given matter, than the rest of the tested. Results are included in the conclusion together with the discussion.

Abstract:
Coal is the most important raw material mined in our country. The mining acitivity creates huge impact on the landscape. The aim of the thesis is to compare the attachment of spruces on spoil tips created by coal mining and their growth during spontaneous succession and reclamation. The studied non-recultivated areas are overgrown with spontaneous vegetation consisting mainly of willow (Salix caprea), white birch (Betula pendula) and aspen poplar (Populus tremula L.). The reclaimed area only consists of planted Norway spruce (Picea abies). The density of localities, age and height structure, layout on terrain waves and distance from the edge of the dump were studied. Spruces were also mapped using GPS. The density of spruce vegetation on reclaimed areas is significantly higher than on succession, however, their growth is slower. On non-reclaimed areas, the growth of already attached spruces is significantly faster than on reclaimed areas. The results show a higher attachment of spruces on the slopes of the waves, especially on the northern leeward side, rather than in the troughs or on the peaks. The results show the possibility of undercutting succession areas with climax trees as a promising method of reclamation. Keywords: spruce, succession, reclamation, establishment of trees, density of trees

Abstract:
A level set of a function is defined as the region, where the function gets over the specified level. A level set of the probability density function can be considered an alternative to the traditional confidence region because on certain conditions the level set covers the region with minimal volume over all regions with a given confidence level. The benefits of using level sets arise in situations where, for example, the given random variables are multimodal or the given random vectors have strongly correlated components. This thesis describes estimates of the level set by means of a so called plug-in method, which first estimates density from the data set and then specifies the level set from the estimated density. In addition, explicit direct methods are also studied, such as algorithms based on support vectors or dyadic decision trees. Special attention is paid to the nonparametric probability density estimates, which form an essential tool for plug-in estimates. Namely, the second chapter describes histograms, averaged shifted histograms, kernel density estimates and its generalization. A new technique transforming kernel supports is proposed to avoid the so called boundary effect in multidimensional data domains. Ultimately, all methods are implemented in Mathematica and compared on financial data sets.

Abstract:
This thesis evaluates the influence of selected stand characteristics of deciduous forest on the composition of nesting ornithocenosis. Especially the influence of the composition of forest stand age and structure and abundance of cavity trees. Using the point counting method, composition of nesting birds has been found on 50 census points located systematically in the stands of different ages and with different tree composition (mainly various presence of European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) and oak (Quercus spp.)). There were 1119 birds in total belonging to 38 species. It turned out that the presence of oak in vegetation affects the numbers of Finches, Great Spotted Woodpeckers, Blue Tits, Blackbirds, Golden Orioles, Cuckoos and Wood Pigeons. Presence of beech in forests affected some bird species with the opposite trend to the presence of oak in most cases. The number of species and individuals and diversity of bird communities at the census points increased with increasing presence of oak and decreased with the presence of beech. Stand age and spatial structure appeared to be an important factor in the occurrence of some bird species. The highest number of species has been recorded in the old stands. Cavity trees appeared primarily in old forests and had an impact on the presence of the Collared Flycatcher, Nuthatch, Chiffchaff and Willow Warbler. Generally, diversity and the number of species and individuals increased with the number of cavity trees. Nesting densities were calculated. Birds with the highest brood densities were Chaffinch, Great Tit, Nuthatch, Blue Tit, Chiffchaff and Great Spotted Woodpecker. Decreased abundance of ornithofauna during the nesting season has also been shown.

Abstract:
The central problem in the modern electronic structure theory is the calculation of cor- relation energy, possibly by an approach that would account for both static and dynamic correlation in an efficient, balanced and accurate way. In this thesis, I present a collection of methods that combine the effective treatment of dynamic correlation by the coupled cluster theory with density matrix renormalization group, a well-established technique for calculations of strongly correlated systems. The connection between them is achieved via the tailored coupled clusters (TCC) ansatz, which conveniently does not impose any ad- ditional computational costs. After the successful initial assessment, we developed more efficient implementations of these methods by employing the local approaches based on pair natural orbitals. This way, we extended the range of possible applications to larger systems with thousands of basis functions. To assess the accuracy of TCC as well as its local counterparts, we performed a variety of benchmark calculations ranging from small, yet challenging systems such as the nitrogen molecule or tetramethyleneethane diradical, to larger molecules like oxo-Mn(Salen) or Fe(II)-porphyrin model. 1

Abstract:
The ghosts that Bradbury had carried since his challenging time in early 1950s Ireland with John Huston were finally laid to rest when Bradbury received an honorary degree from the University of Ireland, Galway, home to the Huston School of Film and Digital Media. Chapter 41 also describes the film adaptation of A Sound of Thunder (2005) and the need to extend this time travel story into a feature film requiring more special effects than the production could afford. In spite of excellent casting and strong performances, the film fell short of the mark for critics and audiences. The chapter also describes Bradbury’s late-life reflections on Japanese and Chinese culture and his attempts to have Samurai Kabuki produced as a film.
