Abstract:
Digital technologies have radically changed the tourism industry and gaining a lot of attention from the stakeholders. At present, there is voluminous but fragmented research to cover the various aspects of digital tourism, but a consolidated “big picture” of the extant research is missing. By performing a bibliometric analysis of 827 papers on digital tourism, an attempt has been made to fill this void. The investigation revealed that the management of smart destinations, the internet as a communication and marketing channel, technology and sustainability, and consumer behavior are emerging research directions in digital tourism. Observations regarding little scientific interest and collaborations in regions like Russia and Africa present an opportunity for researchers and businesses to set directions and strategies for the future. Abstract:
Since the turn of the century, sociological consumer research has had a strong focus on ordinary, routinised consumption, especially within the sustainability context. This approach has been a welcome alternative when understanding sustainable consumption compared with relying on individualistic psychological or identity-communicative approaches. However, with the shift towards a practice theoretical approach, there has been a tendency to ignore variation in consumer practices. Specifically, questions regarding the extent to which ethical concern can explain variance have not yet been included. Important questions, such as whether and how ethics takes part in changing practices in more sustainable directions, have similarly been neglected. This theoretically based article intends to contribute to further developing theories of practice by bringing together three discussions: how variation in carrying and performing practices can be conceptualised, how different approaches to consumption have conceptualised ethics and how ethics of care and the concept of general understandings can be used to conceptualise ethical aspects of consumption within theories of practice. The article concludes by summarising the findings from these discussions and raising questions of further empirical and theoretical concern.

Abstract:
Traditionally, assessment for university students in the humanities has been in an essay format, but this has changed extensively in the last decade. Assessments now may entail auditory and visual presentations, films, mind-maps, and other modes of communication. These formats are outside the established conventions of humanities and may be considered as creative works. Exploring definitions and research in the field of assessment of creativity, highlighting ways to explicitly assess the creative aspects of student work. An obligatory first year common unit titled “Cultural intelligence and capability” is examined as a model of how creative assessment can be used to extend engagement with subject material. Implications of considering creative aspects, in an explicit way, are reviewed. The underpinning argument is that in the current learning settings, creativity should be seen as an intrinsic part of appraisal criteria in the humanities as much as in the arts.

Abstract:
The increase in the frequency of cesarean section (CS) remains one of the actual problems of modern obstetrics and causes the concern to the world community. Today, it is believed that the abdominal delivery is a safer and more non-traumatic method of delivery for the benefit of the fetus than vaginal delivery. The relative number of cases of abdominal delivery, according to the WHO, should not exceed 10 % of the total number of births, which minimizes the occurrence of complications and prevents the development of bleeding and purulent-inflammatory diseases in the postpartum period. But the latest data demonstrate that this percentage is 18.6 % worldwide, that is one in five births ends in CS. The frequency of CS has been growing rapidly in recent years in most countries of the world, and in this context Ukraine is no exception (14.2 % in 2006, to 25.08 % in 2020). This increases the risk of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. In the presented material for the distance learning about the operative delivery, doctors will find up-to-date information on indications, contraindications, methods of CS, as well as recommendations on counseling of pregnant women before surgery and preventive measures to minimize complications during obstetric surgery. According to the modern approach, the indications for the CS are divided into planned and urgent ones, which are clearly defined in this article. Considerable attention is paid to counseling of the patients before this operation and the obligatory acquaintance of the pregnant woman with the method of performing CS, anesthesia and potential perioperative complications and signing her the informed consent on the possible expansion of surgery. According to the standpoint of evidence-based medicine, the most optimal method of CS is presented, which significantly reduces the likelihood of hemorrhagic, purulent-inflammatory complications during surgery and in the postoperative period. The issues related to modern methods of anesthesia of CS with the use of multimodal analgesia, early mobilization of women in labor and prevention of thromboembolic complications, rehabilitation measures are also identified.

Abstract:
Self-reports on the HEXACO-PI-R scales were examined in relation to academic majors in post-secondary education ( N > 73,000). Openness to Experience showed the largest mean differences across academic major areas, with the Visual/Performing Arts and Humanities areas averaging higher and Health Sciences and Business/Commerce averaging lower. Emotionality showed the second largest differences, with the Engineering and Physical Sciences/Math areas averaging lower and Visual/Performing Arts averaging higher; these differences in Emotionality became smaller in within-sex analyses. In addition, Extraversion tended to be higher for Business/Commerce and lower for Physical Sciences/Math, while Honesty-Humility was lower for Business/Commerce. The facet-level analyses provided additional detail, as facet scales in the same domain sometimes showed considerably different means within a given academic major area. In one case, Visual/Performing Art majors averaged lower in Prudence, but higher in Perfectionism, even though both facets belong to the Conscientiousness domain.

Abstract:
Theatre at the end of the twentieth century, like most other aspects of life in industrialized countries, relies heavily on computers. From the word processors on which playwrights compose texts and PR officers compose advertisements to the lighting boards which automatically recall hundreds of cues, to the ticket systems and automated telephone sales, to the accounting packages which finally chronicle the season, large and small theatres in Canada rely more and more on computer technology to manage and to shape their product. These “front of the house” uses of computer technologies have gradually entered theatre production in the same manner that computers have entered other aspects of daily life: as mechanisms to save time, reduce drudgery, or allow small staffs to perform more functions. In this sense, computers in theatre occupy the same register as computers in business: they are machines which arose historically from arithmetic computation.

Winn, Alisha R. "Beyond the Business: Social and Cultural Aspects of the Atlanta Life Insurance Company." Scholar Commons, 2010. https://scholarcommons.usf.edu/etd/1809.

Full text
Abstract:
The dissertation research is an examination of the social and cultural dynamics of the Atlanta Life Insurance Company (ALIC) in Atlanta, GA. During the Jim Crow era (and post Jim Crow era), the ALIC provided economic mobility through employment, home loans, life insurance, and community solidarity. The company was one of the largest and most successful African-American financial institution in the country during the 20th century. It was founded in 1905 by Alonzo F. Herndon, a prosperous black barber and entrepreneur who rose from enslavement to become by 1927 the wealthiest African American in Atlanta. Renamed as the Atlanta Life Financial Group (ALFG), today the insurance company remains the leading African American stock-owned insurance company in the nation. I examine how Atlanta Life employees conceptualized their relationships within the company (past and present) and the larger African American community of Atlanta, along with the role the institution played as a shared space for producing cultural identities through social interactions. I explore the multiple roles of the company that impacted the community in the past and current roles within the African American community. I also explore what the possible closing of the Herndon Home Museum mean for memories and heritage, and the Herndon family's accomplishments if the home were torn down.

Abstract:

Harris, Linda H. "On Human Migration and the Moral Obligations of Business." UNF Digital Commons, 2008. http://digitalcommons.unf.edu/etd/296.

Full text
Abstract:
This work addresses to what extent businesses in the United States and the European Union have a moral obligation to participate in social integration processes in areas where they operate with the use of migrant laborers. It begins with the presupposition that a common framework as to what constitutes ethical behavior in business is needed and beneficial. It argues that the very industry that creates a need for migrant labor ought to also be involved in merging this labor successfully into the existing community and specifies that a discourse on business ethics and migration is gravely needed. This must be one that considers how businesses can become more engaged in resolving the social issues that arise both for the migrants and for the local community in which the businesses operate. The purpose would be to fill a social and humanitarian need that government alone cannot. More importantly, it will be to exercise beneficence and display responsible and sincere corporate citizenship. It is claimed that businesses that fail to encourage and participate in integration processes display a moral flaw. Cosmopolitan business ethics are proposed as a way to look at ethical business conduct and it is claimed that businesses that act as cosmopolitan citizens are morally praiseworthy.

Tremblay, Johanne.

Full text
