Abstract:
In 1994 the archive of Liddon House, London, was moved to Pusey House in Oxford. The journals of Henry Parry Liddon, kept more or less daily from 1858 to 1890 (the year of Liddon's death), thus came to be housed alongside the enormous correspondence of Edward Bouverie Pusey which Liddon himself spent much effort in collecting. Liddon's journal entries from 1863 onwards contain a number of references to the young Gerard Manley Hopkins, then an undergraduate at Balliol. A number of Hopkins scholars have made use of the journals in their research but none, to my knowledge, has examined them since their move to Oxford. Recently, a number of other documents have come to light which relate to Hopkins's time in Oxford, and in particular to his conversion. One of these documents strongly suggests that the only extant letter from Edward Pusey to Hopkins has been misdated since its publication in 1935, and hence that the accepted chronology of the days leading up to Hopkins's reception into the Roman Catholic Church needs slightly to be revised.

Abstract:
The publication of scientific journals performs a number of functions, including that of state importance, which, in turn, embrace the country image formation and determination of its place on the international arena by demonstrating the level of scientific and economic potential development of the State. Therefore, the process of publishing and studying scientific journals is an actual task. This article considers the publication of scientific journals in SB RAS in the period of 2001–2010 thereby clarifying and complementing to the picture of the regional and all-Russian scientific book publishing. The source base is representative as, based on the current archives of the Siberian enterprise “Science” RAS (printing house No. 4) and the Siberian publishing company “Nauka” of RAS, the analysis of normative-legislative documents, prepared by the Presidium of SB RAS and the Scientific-Publishing Council of SB RAS, regulating organizational and financial aspects of the Branch activities for the publication of scientific journals in the period under study, has been made. Besides, all issues of the weekly newspaper SB RAS “Science in Siberia” for the period of 2001– 2010, 24 scientific journals published by the Publishing House of SB RAS (ISO RAS), which founder was SB RAS together with institutes, as well as scientific journals published in scientific institutes and institutions of SB RAS, universities, private publishing houses have been viewed. The role of the Scientific-Publishing Council of SB RAS (INSO SB RAS) as a permanent advisory body of SB RAS Presidium, which formed and implemented into practice the strategic tasks of publishing, is presented. The discrepant role of English-language versions of journals, which, on the one hand, contribute to the entry of Russian science on the international arena and its integration into the global science, present its results to the world community, forming a positive image of the country, on the other hand, demand considerable labor and financial expenses, is disclosed. The obtained data allow revealing and characterizing the basic structural divisions of SB RAS publishing and printing base for issuing scientific journals (Publishing House of SB RAS, publishing houses of scientific centers, institutes and institutions of SB RAS, universities), and composing the list of private publishing houses, attracted by the Branch for these objectives.

Abstract:
Visibility of articles is a key task for any peer-reviewed journal. It makes articles to be cited more likely thus helping journals to grow and to hold higher positions in international ranking systems. Like Elsevier company running the Scopus database, the Scilit database has been launched and is managing by another academic publishing company—MDPI (Basel, Switzerland). A Scilit name is a contraction of two words—scientific and literature. As a publishing house team, we are proud to receive inclusion of the Journal of Endodontic Microsurgery to its first database. Like other respected international open access English-language journals, among top priors of our Journal are listing in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science. For that purposes we will assist the editorial board of the Journal, helping to publish high quality articles in the field of endodontic microsurgery.

Abstract:
Nias Island is located on plates that collide with each other so it is very vulnerable to earthquakes. This is what makes the Nias community built so that they can adapt to the environment by utilizing wood materials in the structural system of the house. This study aims to determine the pattern of loading on Nias houses, as well as the placement of wood types in the composition of the structural elements of the house. This is to answer the formulation of the research problem, namely how is the relationship between the material and the structural system of the house to respond to the earthquake problem. The research was conducted by collecting data from journals and other sources, and making models from the data obtained. Then the data obtained were analyzed quantitatively by comparing the specifications of the wood to its placement in the structure of the house. The placement of the type of wood on the Nias house structure depends on the strength and durability of the wood, the higher the grade of wood, the wood is used as the main structure of the house and in the foundation of the house.

Abstract:
South Sumatra has a lot of traditional houses across its region. Each house has its own characteristics. One notable design is houses built on stilts. In Ogan Ilir, especially Tanjung Batu, it is famous for the production of knock-down houses. Knock-down houses in Tanjung Batu are a stilt house with an architectural design that almost resembles a Limas house, only that these knock-down houses are specially designed to make it easy to disassemble and reassemble them elsewhere. This study aims to give a closer look at the design, structure and wood choices of knock-down houses that have become unique, cultural houses of Ogan Ilir people. This study will look at how the architectural design of the houses’ characteristics and wooden structures are adapted to the surrounding environment. This study was conducted qualitatively with an anthropological approach through ethnological techniques. To dig up information about knock-down houses, this was done through observation and data collection by conducting interviews and collecting written data such as journals and articles related to the topic. Observations and interviews were carried out in Tanjung Batu, which is the center for knock-down house craftsmen. The results obtained in this study are: (a) the daily activities of carpenters in the manufacture of knock-down houses, (b) tools and materials used in the construction of the knock-down houses, (c) sales of knock-down houses, (d) the development of wood tools and materials following the development of increasingly sophisticated technology, and (e) information about knock-down houses as a local, cultural building typical of Ogan Ilir.

Abstract:
Publish or perish has been the mantra for researchers and scientists. It is an aphorism describing the sheer pressure to publish academic work in order to succeed in an academic career. After all what good one has done if they didn’t even publish an article in a good journal. A good journal is the one with the highest impact factor. The Impact Factor is calculated by dividing the number of citations in the JCR year by the total number of articles published in the two previous years. An Impact Factor of 1.0 means that, on average, the articles published 1 or 2 years ago have been cited one time. While the impact factor metric is very unreliable to judge the quality of the journal or published paper, as numerous unfair and dubious means were frequently adopted to boost the journal impactfactors. But still, the race is on with the psychology to publish in higher impact journals as it is often associated with greater academic rewards. What emerged out of this race is that journals and the publishing houses ramped the article processing charges (APC) to an astronomical level, which was unprecedented before. APC for a few BMC, MDPI, SAGE DOVE press journals on an average exceed 2000 USD, equivalent to few months salary of the Principle Investigtor. Journal publishing house often justifies high APC citing reasons for “open access” such that they are freely available for a wider range of readers free of cost or to meet their operational cost. Although apparently sound like a great initiative, a little more investigation reveals an underlying agenda, which is far from true when we find that a majority of this same. Publishing house ferociously opposes Sci-hub like 3d party platforms which genuinely gives free access to all readers worldwide. Recently, three major academic publishers Elsevier, Wiley, and American Chemical Society filed a copyright infringement suit in the Delhi High Court, India against “Sci-Hub” and “Libgen” which provide free access to millions of research papers/books. This clearly indicates that their intentions are misaligned with what they say. High APC is a means to just earn larger profit margins. Publishing house does mention a fee waiver for low-income countries but is exploited and abused instead of this as a helping gesture. Scientific research can hardly proceed in solo. It needs infrastructure, trained manpower, logistic support, and high-level coordination. Providing fee waivers for publication to countries that hardly can feed its starving populations makes little sense because either way, these countries are far behind to have material to publish or to engage in any credible research. Instead what is happening is what is called “author swapping” wherein the corresponding or co-corresponding authors are cherry-picked from these improvised nations for APC waiver without them anyway participating in the scientific study. This is surely unethical. Journals are also reported extorting authors who fail to pay the APC. There are other flip sides of APC. High APC skew only those rich and affluent labs/groups who may be able to afford them, something getting away even with mediocre articles while genuine data from less affluent labs may never be able to reach these journals. This trend is growing alarmingly high, filtering out publications only from wealthy labs. Though the scientific community is well aware of this, very little is actually done to prevent this as the nexus runs deep benefiting few who can afford it. Unless this chain is broken, future science may just be determined by those who can afford the high APC to get into the highest impact journals, and not by the quality of science.

Abstract:
Purpose – This study aims to analyze the resources used in the citations of 156 postgraduate dissertations submitted to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) through the Acharya & BM Reddy College of Pharmacy (ABMRCP), and prepares the core journal list according to the Bradford’s law of scattering. For any research and academic institutional libraries, books and journals are considered as key resources. As the resources are more and diverse, collection building is a tough task for librarians. Citation analysis is one of the best methods to list the most used resources by the users. The paper highlights the extent use of in-house resources and open access journals in the citations. Design/methodology/approach – Citations of PG dissertations during 2010-2013 (four years) were compiled, the data about the resources cited in each were taken and the list of resources used in PG dissertations was prepared. The list of core journals obtained by citation analysis was matched with the list of online journals provided by Health Science Library & Information Network (HELINET) of RGUHS as well as print list of journals subscribed by ABMRCP Library, and evaluated the print and online consortia journals used by ABMRCP community. The list of core journals’ ranking in the SCImago Journal & Country Rank (SJR) list-pharmaceutical sciences was identified to know the impact of the journals. Findings – The study gives the list of different information resources cited in the pharmacy dissertations. The core list obtained by applying the Bradford’s law of scattering in this study has 19 journals pertaining to pharmacy. After matching the core list with the Keogh’s list, it is found that 31 journals can be considered very useful in the field of pharmacy. Twelve journals listed in the core list have different positions in the SJR ranking 2013. The results indicate that open-access journals with online journals subscribed through HELINET and print holdings have been cited more in the PG dissertations. Originality/value – The topic of journal use in this case may be of greatest interest to those who purchase journals in the sciences and, very specifically, the pharmaceutical sciences.

Abstract:
Abstract Purpose This paper describes an alternative way of assessing journals considering a broader perspective of its impact. The Area-based connectedness (ABC) to society of journals applied here contributes to the assessment of the dissemination task of journals but with more data it may also contribute to the assessment of other missions. Design/methodology/approach The ABC approach assesses the performance of research actors, in this case journals, considering the characteristics of the research areas in which they are active. Each paper in a journal inherits the characteristics of its area. These areas are defined by a publication-based classification. The characteristics of areas relate to 5 dimensions of connectedness to society (news, policy, industrial R&D, technology and local interest) and are calculated by bibliometric indicators and social media metrics. Findings In the paper, I illustrate the approach by showing the results for a few journals. They illustrate the diverse profiles that journals may have. We are able to provide a profile for each journal in the Web of Science database. The profiles we present show an appropriate view on the journals’ societal connectedness. Research limitations The classification I apply to perform the analyses is a CWTS in house classification based on Web of Science data. As such the application depends on the (updates of) that system. The classification is available at www.leidenranking.com Practical implications The dimensions of connectedness discussed in this paper relate to the dissemination task of journals but further development of this method may provide more options to monitor the tasks/mission of journals. Originality/value The ABC approach is a unique way to assess performance or impact of research actors considering the characteristics of the areas in which output is published and as such less prone to manipulation or gaming.

Retracted on August 17, 2020 by the Journal’s owner and Publisher. Type of retraction – plagiarism. There wasn’t a request for this retraction, but the reason for investigation of plagiarism fact was the Russian Academy of Sciences Committee’s report “Predatory Journals at Scopus and WoS: Translation Plagiarism from Russian Sources”: https://kpfran.ru/wp-content/uploads/plagiarism-by-translation-2.pdf” dated August 12, 2020. The publishing house has familiarized itself with the report. The article by Alexey Mikhaylov, Natalia Sokolinskaya and Evgeniy Lopatin (2019). Asset allocation in equity, fixed-income and cryptocurrency on the base of individual risk sentiment. Investment Management and Financial Innovations, 16(2), 171-181. doi:10.21511/imfi.16(2).2019.15 was mentioned in this report. It is noted that translation plagiarism was detected in this article - http://wiki.dissernet.org/wsave/IMFI_2019_2_1publ.html. Due to this the publishing house carried out an investigation on possible cases of plagiarism of all articles of these authors (Alexey Mikhaylov, Natalia Sokolinskaya and Evgeniy Lopatin) published in “Business Perspectives” journals. When the manuscript "Assessment of Russian banking system performance and sustainability" was submitted to the Journal for consideration, the authors signed the Cover letter and attested to the fact that their manuscript is an original research and has not been published before. Then, the manuscript was accepted for consideration by the Managing Editor and was tested for plagiarism using the iThenticate and Unicheck programs. Plagiarism was not detected. On August 12, 2020 the Russian Academy of Sciences Committee’s presented the report. Editorial staff decided to re-test all articles of mentioned authors for plagiarism using the iThenticate and Unicheck programs – the programs didn’t show the plagiarism, then the articles were tested for translation plagiarism by the experts of “Business Perspectives” and plagiarism was detected (plagiarism and paraphrases from Russian-language sources). According to the results of the investigation, the Publisher and owner of the journal decided to retract this article because of plagiarism on August 17, 2020.The authors were notified of such a decision.

When the manuscript "Confidence level and credit risk analysis in Russian banks" was submitted to the Journal for consideration, the authors signed the Cover letter and attested to the fact that their manuscript is an original research and has not been published before.

Abstract:
American architectural journals first appeared in the second half of the 19th century. Encouraged by advances in printing and graphic technologies, they were part of a general trend toward specialized journalism during this period. The architectural periodical developed along with journals for women, clerics, railroad engineers, and grocers. Yet it also resulted from publishers' desires to capitalize on the success of house pattern books and the widespread interest in architecture that they created. Despite these favorable omens the early American architectural journals foundered; they had troubled and short lives, generally lasting only two years. The premise of this paper is that their success depended on the architectural profession's direct involvement and support and the backing of a major publishing house. Beginning with the first periodicals of the 1850s and 1860s, architectural journalism identified itself with the emerging profession; its editorials asserted the architects' primacy in design and construction and distinguished their role from the builders'. Professional and educational issues, in fact, took precedence over aesthetic and stylistic discussions in editorial columns and articles. Yet the journals displayed the same pragmatism that had characterized builders' guides and pattern books, the first architectural literature published in the United States.

Abstract:
AbstractThis paper takes a fresh look at citation counts and publications in top-rank journals, which the academic economics profession uses to evaluate and promote its members. It first examines how and why citations are mentioned in an article, and what this implies about their counts. The discussion then examines how average citation counts to articles are used to rank journals, and the paper reviews the concerns that have been expressed about this practice. These concerns identify the large variance in citation counts among articles of the same journal, implying that those articles themselves must vary greatly in quality (Engemann and Wall 2009). To address these concerns, the paper proposes the classification of citations into three categories: Fodder Citations (for references that contribute only trivially to a paper), Relevant Citations (which substantively contribute to the paper, though the paper would remain roughly the same without them), and Essential Citations (which have a major influence). The paper argues that counts of citations by the last two categories offers greater credibility in the application of citation counts to evaluate economic literature. Finally, the paper provides an opportunity for economists to participate in a new project that solicits information on citations by these categories.

Abstract:
C.I.M is on-line. This issue marks the beginning of a new phase of publication for the journal: CIM is now available only on-line. Over its 30 year existence, CIM has been published in several formats and by different agencies. In recent years, CIM was owned and published by CMA as one of its associate journals. In 2004, CSCI purchased CIM and ownership reverted to the society. Since then, CIM has been type-set and formatted in-house and printed and distributed by University of Toronto Press (UTP) and, as in interim measure, the journal was available on the CSCI web-site. This process was threatened by the sale of UTP's off-set Printing Division. Links have now been established between CSCI, CIM and the University of Toronto Library to make use of the U of T Open Journal Access initiative to develop sophisticated on-line distribution. The Library supports journals via the Open Journal System (OJS) management software as well as providing archiving facilities. CIM will remain a subscription journal but, in the spirit of open access, all content will be freely available after a six month publication delay. Access will also be made available to all Canadian Universities via their library websites and authors will have immediate access for submitted articles.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Introduction A prescription is ‘a written order, which includes detailed instructions of what medicine should be given to whom, in what formulation and dose, by what route, when, how frequently, and for how long’. Aim To determine competency and knowledge gained during undergraduate dental studies regarding clinical pharmacology and therapeutics (CPT) by house officers in the form of prescription writing skill assessment. Materials and methods A survey form with a clinical scenario was designed and distributed to house officers working in nine different dental teaching hospitals. It required a response in the form of a complete prescription. Out of 360 forms distributed, 200 were returned. Each form was assessed for all the 20 required parameters and scored accordingly. Data was analyzed by using SPSS 19. Results Frequency (92.5%) and route (93%) of drug administration were the most commonly listed, followed by dose (82.9%), symbol Rx (65.2%), duration (60.4%), doctor's signature (59.3%), patient's name (52.4%), patient's age (44.9%) and date (44.4%). Parameters that were least or not listed include hospital address (0%), refill information (0%), instructions for labeling (0.5%), quantity to be dispensed (1.1%), patients address (1.1%), professional degree and registration number (1.1%), doctor's name (1.6%), diagnosis (7%), hospital name (22%), appropriateness of drug (26.2%) and patients sex (26.2%). Conclusion The current study concluded that prescription writing skills of a majority of house surgeons were deficient in important details. Full text
Abstract:
Abstract A group of European funding agencies launched an initiative called “Plan S” in September 2018 that would require scientific publications resulting from funded research to be published only in Plan S-compliant open access journals by 2020. A delegation from the European Commission visited the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and other federal agencies in December 2018 to gain support for Plan S. Plan S would force authors to publish solely in open access journals and bar researchers from publishing in hybrid journals, such as the Journal of Animal Science, that allow authors to choose between Gold and Green Open Access publishing. Gold Open Access allows immediate open access with articles made freely available at time of publication and requires payment of article processing charges that are usually higher than page charges of subscription-based journals. Green Open Access publishing is subscription-based and defers open access for the publisher embargo period (usually 12 months). Because 85% of journals are hybrid or subscription based, Plan S would limit researcher’s academic freedom to decide where to publish and prevent authors from publishing in most research society journals that are hybrid or subscription-based. Research society-based journals provide rigorous peer review and comprehensive editorial processes and thus, have earned the trust of researchers, professionals, and the public. Funneling research output to non-research society based open access journals may distort the dissemination of scientific research and reduce the quality of scientific communication. Nonprofit research societies use revenues from their publishing operations to finance educational, journalistic, outreach, and other activities and thus, Plan S threatens the financial stability of these research societies. Authors should be allowed to choose the best venue to publish their work. Plan S must be rejected.

Abstract:
In this paper my aim is to read and understand the journal of Gerrit de Veer from the last journey of William Barents to the Arctic Regions in 1596 and the journal of captain Junge on his hunting trip from Tromsø to Svalbard in 1834.It is nearly 240 years between this to voyages. The first journal is known as the earliest report from the arctic era. Gerrit de Veer adds instructive copper engravings to his text and give us insight in the crews meeting with this new land. Captain Junges journal is found together with his dead crew in a house in a fjord nearby Ny-Ålesund and has no drawings, but word. Both of these journals may be read as sources of the knowledge and understanding of the polar region. They might also unveil the ideas of how to deal with and survive under the challenges that is given. In addition one can ask if the sources can tell us more about how men describe their challenges. Can the way they expressed themselves in the journals give us an understanding of masculinity? And not least help us to create good questions of the change in the ideas of masculinities which is said to follow the change in understanding of the wilderness.

Although the authors of the journals and speeches reproduced below all came from the East Midlands and were loosely related to each other, they offer three widely differing viewpoints of the proceedings of the House of Commons during the parliamentary sessions of 1604 and 1606–7. The Rutland manuscript concentrates on the privilege dispute over election returns which dominated the opening weeks of the 1604 session, while Sir Robert Cotton was chiefly concerned to record procedural precedents for use in subsequent Parliaments, and Sir Edward Mountagu focussed on the House's legislative activity.

In addition to the new e-only format, the journal has transitioned from a commercial hosting service to the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform. There are several advantages of moving to OJS. First is cost savings, which are important for a member organization. OJS offers the ability to customize the platform to provide services and information that will improve access and irretrievability. OJS will also enable us to consider new functionalities. The new website is available at http://journals.ala.org/lrts and I encourage you to try it. State support for the promotion of Kazakhstani scientific medical journals into international scientometric databases by: - development of a program for the development of scientific medical journals in Kazakhstan with a clear funding mechanism; - development and implementation of specific measures to increase the demand for developing Kazakhstani scientific medical journals among domestic scientists (stimulating the development of highly cited research projects; revising the requirements for awarding academic titles in favor of domestic scientific journals; increasing the number of points awarded for articles published in domestic journals during rating assessment) ; - development of effective mechanisms to attract reputable foreign scientists as authors and reviewers for Kazakhstani scientific medical journals; - creation of an association of editors of scientific medical journals in Kazakhstan and systematic training of members of the association on best practice in publishing. Option 2. Intensive development of scientific medical journals in Kazakhstan in accordance with the main international publishing standards at the level of the publishing house-owner, by: - creating your own website for a medical scientific journal that meets the basic international requirements; - introduction of a system of double "blind" reviewing; - strict adherence to the principles of publication ethics. Option 3. Creation of an integrated and dynamic system of examination, monitoring and certification of scientific medical journals, standardization and regulatory regulation of editorial and publishing activities at the level of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, by: - the introduction of a comprehensive and dynamic system of examination and monitoring of the activities of scientific, including medical, journals (as an option, on the basis of the National State Book Chamber in close cooperation with subdivisions of state governing bodies in charge of the development and quality of science at the national and sectoral level, and also with associations of scientific journal editors; close cooperation of the team implementing the program for the development of scientific journals in Kazakhstan with the Content Selection Advisory Board of the Scopus team; - joint responsibility of all participants in the publication process (editorial offices of journals, authors and organizations - universities, scientific organizations, etc.) for the preparation of high-quality manuscripts and the development of scientific medical journals in Kazakhstan. Policy options realization perspective Abovementioned three policy options are mutually supportive. Combined realization of these policy options will raise domestic medical scientific journals to a qualitatively new level. Key words: editorial and publishing activity, international scientometric databases, scientific medical journals, editorial policy, Kazakhstan.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Musculoskeletal education in medical schools throughout the United States is inconsistent. Furthermore, formal surgical skill training in medical school is often lacking. Consequently, orthopaedic surgery residents in the United States are faced with a unique challenge as they transition from medical student to house officer in comparison to their peers pursuing more generalized specialties. In response, we designed and successfully implemented an innovative month long elective at Wake Forest University School of Medicine for fourth year medical students who were in the process of applying to ortho paedic surgery residency programs. This course provides medical students with an introduction to the basic skills and common surgical approaches that are commonly utilized early in orthopaedic surgery residency and beyond. While longi tudinal data are needed, we believe this novel month long elective will allow the transition from medical student to house officer to be a smoother and more seamless process.
