Abstract:
In 1994 the archive of Liddon House, London, was moved to Pusey House in Oxford. The journals of Henry Parry Liddon, kept more or less daily from 1858 to 1890 (the year of Liddon's death), thus came to be housed alongside the enormous correspondence of Edward Bouverie Pusey which Liddon himself spent much effort in collecting. Liddon's journal entries from 1863 onwards contain a number of references to the young Gerard Manley Hopkins, then an undergraduate at Balliol. A number of Hopkins scholars have made use of the journals in their research but none, to my knowledge, has examined them since their move to Oxford. Recently, a number of other documents have come to light which relate to Hopkins's time in Oxford, and in particular to his conversion. One of these documents strongly suggests that the only extant letter from Edward Pusey to Hopkins has been misdated since its publication in 1935, and hence that the accepted chronology of the days leading up to Hopkins's reception into the Roman Catholic Church needs slightly to be revised.

Abstract:
The publication of scientific journals performs a number of functions, including that of state importance, which, in turn, embrace the country image formation and determination of its place on the international arena by demonstrating the level of scientific and economic potential development of the State. Therefore, the process of publishing and studying scientific journals is an actual task. This article considers the publication of scientific journals in SB RAS in the period of 2001–2010 thereby clarifying and complementing to the picture of the regional and all-Russian scientific book publishing. The source base is representative as, based on the current archives of the Siberian enterprise “Science” RAS (printing house No. 4) and the Siberian publishing company “Nauka” of RAS, the analysis of normative-legislative documents, prepared by the Presidium of SB RAS and the Scientific-Publishing Council of SB RAS, regulating organizational and financial aspects of the Branch activities for the publication of scientific journals in the period under study, has been made. Besides, all issues of the weekly newspaper SB RAS “Science in Siberia” for the period of 2001– 2010, 24 scientific journals published by the Publishing House of SB RAS (ISO RAS), which founder was SB RAS together with institutes, as well as scientific journals published in scientific institutes and institutions of SB RAS, universities, private publishing houses have been viewed. The role of the Scientific-Publishing Council of SB RAS (INSO SB RAS) as a permanent advisory body of SB RAS Presidium, which formed and implemented into practice the strategic tasks of publishing, is presented. The discrepant role of English-language versions of journals, which, on the one hand, contribute to the entry of Russian science on the international arena and its integration into the global science, present its results to the world community, forming a positive image of the country, on the other hand, demand considerable labor and financial expenses, is disclosed. The obtained data allow revealing and characterizing the basic structural divisions of SB RAS publishing and printing base for issuing scientific journals (Publishing House of SB RAS, publishing houses of scientific centers, institutes and institutions of SB RAS, universities), and composing the list of private publishing houses, attracted by the Branch for these objectives.

Abstract. The implementation of this Community Service (PkM) activity aims to improve the ability of teachers to write scientific research articles. Furthermore, the articles are expected to be published in scientific journals. Through this PkM activity, teachers are expected to be able to, 1) have basic knowledge of the steps for compiling scientific articles on research results properly and correctly; 2) search for scientific journals in order to publish scientific articles; and 3) knowing how to publish scientific articles in several scientific journals at the IAIN Ambon Journal House. The training participants were 20 teachers at Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) Al-Ansor Ambon City with various educational backgrounds. The materials presented during the training were 1) tips and tricks for compiling scientific research articles, 2) strategies for selecting nationally accredited scientific journals that are in accordance with scientific articles, and 3) the stages of submitting scientific articles to scientific journals. This PkM activity is carried out through lectures, demonstrations, and interactive discussions. The results of the training obtained are 1) the teacher gains basic knowledge about the preparation of scientific research articles, 2) the teacher is able to find and adjust the target of the intended scientific journal according to the focus and scope of the article that has been made, and 3) the teacher is able to carry out the article submission stages on scientific journals at the IAIN Ambon Journal House. Referring to the results of this PkM activity, the school should be more intensive in carrying out training activities, so that teachers will increase their capacity in writing and publishing scientific articles. Wood, Elvira. "Excellent in-house journals in South Africa : case studies of five leading publications / E. Wood." Thesis, North-West University, 2006. http://hdl.handle.net/10394/878.

Full text
Abstract:
Although companies and organisations worldwide publish in-house journals, there is no comprehensive theory (including technical and normative dimensions) available on this important public relations instrument. In particular, no research is available on what the characteristics of excellent South African in-house journals are or ought to be. In this study a number of dimensions are thus introduced in order to help create a comprehensive framework for analysing in-house journals, in particular South Africa’s leading in-house journals. Firstly, James Grunig’s excellence in public relations theory (published in 1992), which incorporates the concept of two-way symmetrical communication (which in turn is informed by a “symmetric” world view), is put forward as basic point of departure. Secondly, a set of technical criteria for excellent in-house journals gleaned from a wide range of sources, is compiled. Furthermore, the internal and external environments in which South African in-house journals function are identified. The role of other new media (such as e-mail, intranet, television and radio) is also taken into account. Five leading South African in-house journals are then analysed and the views of editors reflected. It was found that Abacus (Absa Bank), Harmonise (Harmony Gold Mining Company), Hello the future (MTN), Pick ’n Patter (Pick ’n Pay) and Sandaba (Sanlam) all measured up well against the theoretical statements flowing from the said theoretical points of departure. However, the analysis did also bring to the fore deviations from the said statements which give new insight into what is required to publish an excellent in-house journal. In conclusion, the criteria are evaluated against some of the more detailed findings of the analysis and adapted to create a set of theoretically based guidelines that can be used by South African companies, focusing inter alia on how the unique character and environment of a company influence its internal communication, to create excellent in-house journals. In final analysis, it is argued that all factors, starting with the philosophical points of departure informing communication strategies, management’s attitude toward internal communication, organisation culture, the socio-political environment in which in-house journals function as well as the technical aspects of these publications, need to be considered when formulating criteria for “excellent” in-house journalism. This study thus endeavours to contribute to the professional integrity of public relations in a sea of asymmetric, marketing-driven internal communication.

Balnave, Nikola Robyn. "Industrial Welfarism in Australia 1890-1965." Thesis, The University of Sydney, 2002. http://hdl.handle.net/2123/572.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis examines industrial welfarism in Australia from 1890 to 1965. This period witnessed the gradual spread of the welfarism movement throughout Australian industry as employers sought ways to increase productivity and control in the face of external challenges. Once reaching its peak in the immediate post-War period, the welfarism movement was gradually subsumed as part of the increasing formalisation of personnel management. Waves of interest in welfare provision coincided with periods of labour shortage and/or labour militancy in Australia, indicating its dual role in the management of labour. Firstly, by offering benefits and services beyond that made necessary by the law or industrial awards, welfarism was designed to create a pool of good quality workers for management to draw from. Secondly, managers sought to enhance their control over these workers and their productive effort, using welfarism as a technique to build worker consent to managerial authority. This could be achieved through subtle methods aimed at boosting loyalty and morale, or through more direct programs designed to increase worker dependency on the company. In both ways, individual and collective worker resistance could be minimised, thereby reinforcing managerial prerogative. Despite its adoption by a variety of companies, a number of economic, political and institutional factors limited the extent of industrial welfarism in Australia. These include the small-scale of most enterprises prior to the Second World War, state involvement in the area of industrial relations and welfare provision, and the strength of organised labour. While the welfarism movement did not reach the heights experienced overseas, it nonetheless provided an important contribution to the development of formal labour management in Australia.

Ivanov, Ivan. "Organisation et communication interne : le cas d'un journal interne "en train de se faire"." Thesis, Toulouse 2, 2013. http://www.theses.fr/2013TOU20039.

Full text
Abstract:
This research aims to better understand how organizational communication texts contribute to the setting of a strategic discourse and a textual agency by focusing on the process of elaboration of an in-house journal. Our main topics of interest are the personal strategies of those who contribute to the preparation of the in-house journal, the reasons for their day-to-day involvement and the change it brings to the working practice. Our approach is structured around participant observation within the Communication department of Préventika. Based on the data collected for a period of two years, we conduct a mixed methods analysis (thematic and longitudinal) of eleven editions of the in-house journal since its creation. This research contributes to the textual agency approach developed by The Montréal School of Organizational Communication in which the in-house journal texts are seen as agents able to act on and to make act on the organization and its members

Full text
Abstract:
The continued publication of articles concerning drama and theatre in scholarly periodicals has resulted in the "loss" of much research due to the lack of retrieval tools. This work is designed to partially fill this lack by cassifying the articles found in fourteen current periodicals using Trussler's taxonomy. This bibliography could also be updated on a regular basis. The issues that are presently not available through the North Texas State University Libraries could be ordered, classified and appended to this work. In short, this thesis is a start toward the opening of the source material held by the campus libraries. But it is only a start. There is still a treasure trove yet to be developed.

Amselle, Frédérique. "Virginia Woolf et les écritures du moi : le journal et l'autobiographie." Montpellier 3, 2005. http://www.theses.fr/2005MON30046.

Full text
Abstract:
Moments of Being, Virginia Woolf's Diaries and Early Journals as well as Carlyle's House and Other Sketches have been mainly read as a biographical material. We want to show that these texts can be read by themselves, as works of arts per se. In this respect we analyse their position within the autobiographical genre and analyse, thanks to the study of the manuscripts, the ethical and esthetical dimension Woolf plays with. This leads us to the paradox of Woolf's writings – questioning the issue of identity and the role of the other within the text. The writing of the self goes together with the question of the impossibility of writing without taking into account time, memory and death

Abstract:
The subject of this contribution is the European reception of the Berlin Royal Opera House and Orchestra from 1842 to 1849 based on German, French, Italian, English, Spanish, Belgian and Dutch music journals. The institution of regular symphony concerts, a tradition continuing to the present, was initiated in 1842. Giacomo Meyerbeer and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy were hired as general music directors respectively conductors for the symphony concerts in the same year. The death of the conductor Otto Nicolai on 11th May 1849, two months after the premiere of his opera Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor, coincides with the end of the analysed period, especially since the revolutions of 1848 in Europe represent a turning point in the history of the continent. The lively music activities of these three conductors and composers are carefully studied, as well as the guest performances of foreign virtuosos and singers, and the differences between the Berliner Hofoper and the Königstädtisches Theater.

Abstract:
Upon return to service from a refueling outage, the 1150 MW SONGS Unit 3 was at 39% reactor power when a circuit breaker fault resulted in a fire, a partial loss of AC off-site power, and a reactor shutdown. The failure of a circuit breaker to function properly resulted in the unavailability of the DC driven turbine emergency lubricating oil pump, causing extensive damage to the turbine generator. The power supply crisis in California at this time highlighted the need for an urgent understanding of the seriousness of the damage to the turbine generator, the consequences for the repair and timely return of the unit to service. Initial inspections indicated that all rotor line bearings had suffered from loss of white metal and most of the housings were distorted. Rotor journals were scored from solid contact and subject to excessive heat damage. Rotor steam seals had suffered rubbing damage. In view of the component sizes associated with such a large machine, and the need to minimize the outage duration, a large proportion of the repair work was undertaken on site. This enabled SCE to project manage the work themselves ‘in-house’. It was decided that the HP and the three LP turbine rotors would remain on site, with only the Generator rotor and the complete Exciter being shipped to the OEM’s workshops for repair. Specialist sub-contractors were employed for site machining and heat treatment. Consultants were hired for specialist technical matters, primarily related to metallurgical issues, to complement the in-house expertise of both SCE and ALSTOM. The serious nature of the damage required close cooperation between SCE and ALSTOM the OEM. It was important to understand the design margins and therefore the scope for repair, and long term integrity of the solutions. The detailed repair instructions were prepared and controlled jointly between ALSTOM and SCE engineers on site, with extensive technical back-up provided from the OEM engineering design departments. Similar close co-operation on the re-design of components and fast track supply of spare parts was crucial to the success of the project.

Full text
Abstract:
The article deals with the problem of the use of electronic open journal systems in scientific and pedagogical research as well as the formation of ICT competence of researchers on the use of such systems. The concepts of electronic journal system (EJS) are considered. The most common kinds of electronic journal systems are revealed (proprietary, local (in-house), open and cloud journal systems). The criteria for accessing the effectiveness of the electronic open journal systems (EOJS) use in scientific and pedagogical research are described (normative, organizational and communication, effective), as well as their indicators. The organizational and pedagogical model of EOJS use in scientific and pedagogical researches is developed. The definition of "ICT competence of researchers on the use of EOJS in scientific and pedagogical research" is provided; its components are described; criteria (axiological, cognitive, praxeological, adaptive) and indicators of its formation are defined. The model of formation of this competence is provided. The main stages of the experimental process (2010–2018) are described. The results of the formation of ICT-competence of researchers and information-analytical monitoring of the scientific journals of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine are presented.

Yablonskyy, Maxym. «NEW DAYS» WEEKLY AND PETRO VOLYNIAK, PUBLISHER AND AUTHOR. Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, February 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.30970/vjo.2021.49.11058.

Full text
Abstract:
In the article on the material of the Salzburg weekly «New Days» (1945–1947) various spheres of activity of Peter Volyniak are presented. It is noted that this edition was a business card of the publishing house of the same name and had a history of continuation: in Toronto Petro Volyniak restored the publishing house of the same name and continued the publication in the format of the universal monthly «New Days» (1950–1969). The article also presents periodicals («Latest News», «New Days», «Timpani», «Our Way») and literary, artistic and scientific collection «Steering Wheel», which were published in the Salzburg publishing house of Peter Volyniak «New Days». The purpose of the publication is to trace the path of Petro Volyniak from a writer to a literary critic, journalist and publisher. This trend is reproduced in chronological order. Peter Volyniak as a writer is informed in the article «Literary Evening of P. Volyniak» (author – M. Ch-ka). O. Satsyuk’s literary-critical article is devoted to the coverage of ideological and artistic aspects of Petro Volyniak’s collection «The Earth Calls» (Salzburg, 1947). Petro Volyniak as a literary critic is presented in an article devoted to a collection of literary tales by A. Kolomiyets (Salzburg, 1946), which was published by «New Days». Petro Volyniak as a journalist presents the essay «This is our song…». With the help of content analysis it was observed that the text is divided into two parts: the first contains the author’s reflections on the Ukrainian song, its role in the life of the Ukrainian people; in the second, main, Peter Okopny’s activity abroad is presented. The publisher Petro Volyniak in 1947 in a separate publication of the February issue of the weekly summarizes the third year of activity, providing statistics on the publication of periodicals, books, postcards, calendars, various small format materials. The analyzed material demonstrated the experience of combining creative work and commercial activity.

Khalil, James, MaryAnne Iwara, and Martine Zeuthen. Journeys through Extremism: The Experiences of Forced Recruits in Boko Haram. RESOLVE Network, September 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.37805/cbags2022.2.

Full text
Abstract:
This case study provides exploratory research into the personal journeys of forced recruits into Boko Haram, to examine how they entered the organization, the conditions they experienced in camps and settlements, their exits from the group, their subsequent experiences in state hands, and their perspectives about future reintegration. These themes are particularly pertinent given the mass disengagements from Boko Haram in spring 2022, and the extent to which federal and state systems lack the capacity to absorb and handle the large numbers involved. Research was undertaken at Operation Safe Corridor (OPSC), a program established in 2016 by the Nigerian state to provide an off-ramp for members of Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) deemed to be ‘low risk’ by military intelligence. Located at Mallam Sidi on the outskirts of Gombe, the OPSC program houses cohorts of around six hundred clients at any point in time. This report features the findings from thirteen in-depth interviews with participants in the OPSC program to provide important insights into the state-sponsored off-ramp from this group.

Sklenar, Ihor. The newspaper «Christian Voice» (Munich) in the postwar period: history, thematic range of expression, leading authors and publicists. Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, February 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.30970/vjo.2022.51.11393.

Full text
Abstract:
The article considers the history, thematic range of expression and a number of authors and publicists of the newspaper «Christian Voice» (with the frequency of a fortnightly). It has been published in Munich by nationally conscious groups of migrants since 1949 as a part of the «Ukrainian Christian Publishing House». The significance of this Ukrainian newspaper in post-Nazi Germany is only partly comprehended in the works of a number of diaspora press’s researchers. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to supplement the scientific information about the «Christian Voice» in the postwar period, in particular, the yearbook for 1957 was chosen as the principal subject of analysis. In the process of writing the article, we used such methods: analysis, synthesis, content analysis, generalization and others. Thus, the results of our study became the socio-political and religious context in which the «Christian Voice» was founded. The article is also a concise overview of the titles of Ukrainian magazines in post-Nazi Germany in the 1940s and 1950s. The thematic analysis of publications of 1957 showed the main trends of journalistic texts in the newspaper and the journalistic skills of it’s iconic authors and publicists (D. Buchynsky, M. Bradovych, S. Shah, etc.). The thematic range of the newspaper after 1959 was somewhat narrowed due to the change in the status of the «Christian Voice» when it became the official newspaper of the UGCC in Germany. It has been distinguished two main thematic blocks of the newspaper ‒ social and religious. Historians will find interesting factual material from the newspaper publications about the life of Ukrainians in the diaspora. Historians of journalism can supplement the bibliographic apparatus in the journalistic and publicistic works of the authors in the postwar period of the newspaper and in subsequent years of publishing. Based upon the publications of the «Christian Voice» in different years, not only since 1957, journalists can study the contents and a form of different genres, linguistic peculiarities in the newspaper articles, and so on.
