Mrs Dalloway, recordo bem. Estava lá, no tempo presente. (Laura Brown)

Abstract: The postmodern art is characterized, accordingly to the Canadian literary theorist Linda Hutcheon, by the revision and critical evaluation of texts and other discursive manifestations of the past, and by their transposition to new scenarios, in which they gain renewed signification. The narrative The Hours (1998), from the North-American writer Michael Cunningham (1952 --), can be seen as a representative of this aesthetic, since it recalls both structurally and thematically the novel Mrs. Dalloway (1925), one of the seminal works of modernism written in English, and prominent production amid the literary opus of Virginia Woolf (1882 - 1941), for its composition. In the present work, we intend to analyze the book The Hours, aiming to investigate, above all, how the representations of the feminine are articulated in the aforementioned work, and, to this end, we depart from Anglo-American feminist theories, as well as critiques and theoretical discussions about postmodern fiction. It is also intended to highlight the emergence of the Woolfian critical-literary collection - emphasizing, mainly, her essayist production and her feminist conceptions - in contemporaneity.

As a result, we found during the data collection a large variety of titles and typology of printed matter, which indicate an intense and diversified publishing activity. As for the publication of literary works, theatrical and poetic texts came to light, but the impression of novels was emphasized, especially at the end of the 1830s and during the following decade, driven by the development of feuilletons in Brazilian newspapers and by the habit of reprinting Roman feuilleton by the typographies of the period, after its publication by the newspaper. In this paper, we present this editorial activity, highlighting the privileged role of the 19th century newspaper workshops for the production and circulation of literature and books, and briefly discussing how the work of Jornal do Commercio in the printing of books and other periodicals contributed to the creation and maintenance of a literary and reading behavior that was popular at the time.

Full textThis work aims to analyze the Mario de Andrade and Oswald de Andrade’s poetics through the 20s of the last century. For this, it considers essential to rebuild the São Paulo social structure in that period in order to verify how each poetic relates with that time. A visit to what these writers proposed in not intrinsically poetic texts – prefaces, essays, manifesto – will also be a part of this scrutiny, as well will be considered narrative and dramatic productions while promoting greater accuracy in the analysis. In the formal difference between these two poetics about the same social process and the discrimination of many forces that act on each aesthetic, it will aim to find the structural principal, as postulated by Antonio Candido and as axial point of the Roberto Schwarz’s work about Machado de Assis, of these writers, who are the two central names in the 20s brazilian modernism.

Full textIn this dissertation, we intend to accomplish the critical analysis of the romance The Hours (The Hours), written by the North American Michael Cunningham, in 1999, as well as of the adaptation of this work for the movies: The Hours, american film driven by Stephen Daldry, in 2002. The work of Cunningham narrates one day in the three women's life that they live in time and different space but they have your linked lives by the romance Mrs. Dalloway, of Virginia Woolf. In the development of this research, we located the present intertextuality in the works of Cunningham and of V. Woolf, showing as this dialogue is introduced to the reader. For the accomplishment of this project, we looked for back-up in the theory of the enunciation, proposed by Mikhail Bakhtin; as well as we fell back upon the parody concepts and paraphrase postulated by Domício Proença Filho, Affonso Romano de Sant´Anna, Linda Hutcheon, Leyla Perrone-Moisés, Julia Kristeva, Sandra Nitrini and Graham Allen. In what it concerns the analysis of the film, we made use of concepts of the movie theories (Bazin, Metz, Agel, Brito, among other) and a comparison between the romance and the film, in the intention of accomplishing aesthetic approaches and semiotics between the literature and the movies.
