Abstract:
As one of the Indonesian honors, puppetry arts are supposed to be socialized and preserved for future generations. It needs creative, interactive, and digital-based media due to the fast and unstoppable global changes. This research aimed to demonstrate the use of YouTube as one of the interesting and interactive media platforms in learning the puppetry arts independently for the duo puppeteer brothers, Prama and Rafi. By applying a qualitative research design with narrative analysis, this research had literally observed, virtually interviewed, and digitally documented a set of questionnaires to the duo puppeteer brothers. Several data were also collected from secondary sources such as YouTube channels and online news. Unlike other little puppeteers who learn the puppetry arts in a studio, the results revealed that the duo puppeteer brothers had never joined any puppetry arts studio. At the age of 16 and 13 years old, they have been learning the puppetry arts through YouTube channels for years to identify different styles of professional puppeteers in performing the puppets’ shows. Using YouTube channels, the duo puppeteer brothers enjoy the puppetry arts learning and could preserve the national noble values and culture.

Abstract:
This essay examines the work of Joan Colom, a Catalan photographer who has come to receive a welter of honors, including the National Prize in Photography, but whose career has been anything but easy and uninterrupted. Colom’s fame derives largely from Izas, rabizas y colipoterras, a photo-book produced in collaboration with Camilo José Cela that focuses on the prostitutes of the Barri Xino of Barcelona and that quickly acquired a cult status among members of the “divine left” critical of Franco’s morally smug regime. Addressing tensions between amateurism and professionalism, art and documentation, the studio and the street, and the image and the word, Fontcuberta presents Colom’s work as a radiography in which the camera serves as an instrument of political critique and the vibrancy and sordidness of street life come to the fore. Inimitable as the book is, it nonetheless allows for productive comparisons with more recent, feminist inflected work on streets, streetwalkers, and sex workers from beyond Barcelona: Susan Meiselas’s Carnival Strippers; Elisabeth B’s Das ist ja zum Peepen; Merry Alpern’s Dirty Windows, and Erika Langley’s The Lusty Lady.

Abstract:
For readers of this journal outside North America, the very concept of “honors education” may be confusing (since the word honours features in British and Commonwealth degree titles) or obscure (bringing to mind associations with aristocratic privilege or elitist competition). But in the United States the development of honors programs in colleges, and later honors colleges within universities, has been an important and growing trend of the last fifty years. Intended to recruit students of high intellectual aptitude, to serve their special needs, and to raise the academic profile of the host institution, honors programs have proliferated from a handful in the 1940s to more than 600, as catalogued in the most recent edition of Peterson's Guide to Honors Programs and Colleges (Digby, 2005). Even though the phrase “honors education” may have a peculiarly North American ring, the issues raised for those who teach highly talented university students are the same for Christian educators around the world, and very little has been published on the topic. With these essays we aim to identify some of the issues that are particularly relevant to Christian higher education for “honors” students, to explore how different theological traditions offer different pedagogical resources for teaching the gifted, and to describe some successful paradigms for cultivating hearts and minds toward service in the kingdom of God.

Robert Ashley’s Of Honour, edited in 1947 by Virgil B. Heltzel, has become a reference work in studies on honor in English literature, but we have known since 2016 that it is a translation plagiarism of Sebastián Fox Morcillo’s De honore (1556). In this paper the authors analyze and compare the three existing manuscripts of Of Honour (two of them recently identified), discuss Ashley’s possible intentions in producing it, and make a complete comparative study of De honore with Robert Ashley’s translation.

Stump, Eleonore. "Humility, Courage, Magnanimity: a Thomistic Account." Scientia et Fides 10, no. 2 (December 7, 2022): 23–29. http://dx.doi.org/10.12775/setf.2022.016.

Abstract:
In these brief remarks, I sketch Aquinas’s account of humility, courage, and magnanimity. The nature of humility for Aquinas emerges nicely from his account of pride, and it also illuminates Aquinas’s view of magnanimity. For Aquinas, pride is the worst of the vices, and it comes in four kinds. The opposite of all these kinds of pride in a person is his disposition to accept that the excellences he has are all gifts from a good God and are all meant to be given back by being shared with others. Aquinas believes that all the virtues come together as a set. Consequently, a person who has humility also has courage. Aquinas takes the deepest kind of courage as a gift of the Holy Spirit. On his view, taken as a gift, courage manifests itself in a disposition to act on the settled conviction that one will be united to God in heaven when one dies. It is not easy to see how magnanimity could be a virtue if humility is. The solution is to see that for Aquinas the honor for the Christian virtue of magnanimity is not honor from human beings but honor from God. A person can have the virtue of humility and still strive for the greatest honors, as Aquinas sees it. The conclusion of Aquinas’s account of humility, courage, and magnanimity is this: it is morally obligatory to go for glory, because glory is a matter of being honored by God as faithful.

Abstract:

Mironov, Arseny S. "Rethinking of the Pan-Epic Value Category “Heroic Anger” in Russian Bylinas: The Knight’s “Fury / Resentment” as a Christian Concept." Vestnik NSU. Series: History and Philology 20, no. 2 (2021): 57–75. http://dx.doi.org/10.25205/1818-7919-2021-20-2-57-75.

Abstract:
Purpose. The article examines the concept of anger, which should be placed among the central concepts of the world’s folk epics. Results. According to axiological analysis, pre-Christian epic poetry renders anger as a certain “indicator” of heroic nature peculiar to this or that character: the epic hero is “obliged” to feel this emotion when public evaluation of his personal honor (the one made either by his relatives or his bride, lord, rival, etc.) does not meet his own idea of those honors which should be granted to him as a possessor of miraculous strength. Such an underestimation is treated by the character as a kind of disgrace, and, consequently, provokes his anger – a feeling that induces him to restore “justice” through violent means. Russian folk epics, however, should be considered as a principal exception from this rule: bylinas don’t render the “fury” – or the “resentment” – of the knight as his response to the underestimation of personal honor. In Russian heroic songs, the pagan understanding of anger mentioned above is replaced by a new treatment of this feeling: now, anger is conceived as a manifestation of “love-eagerness” focused on those external realities and objective categories, which presuppose their own “honor”. Also, bylinas are remarkably distinct from other folk epics by their two opposed types of heroic characters: here, we find both “pagan knights” (Volkh, Dunay, Vasiliy Buslaev, Ivan Godinovich, Sukhman) and “Christian knights” (Ilya, Dobrynya, Alesha, Mikula, etc.). If the former ones are angry because of their personal disgrace (and, as a rule, perish), the latter ones become angry when certain individuals, objects, and value categories (“God’s law”, “honorable icons”, widows, orphans, etc.) are insulted or devoid of their sacredness; in bylinas, these heroes are invariably rendered as victorious, though their feats – the ones caused by “fury” and “eagerness” – do not increase their own property honor. Conclusion. Among the world’s folk epics, only Russian bylinas render the hero’s anger as a Christian concept presupposing both righteous zeal and love.

Abstract:
FOREWORD This special issue of the Industrial and Systems Engineering Review highlights top papers from the 2020 annual General Donald R. Keith memorial capstone conference held at the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY. The conference was certainly a first of its kind virtual conference including asynchronous delivery of paper presentations followed by synchronous question and answer sessions with evaluation panels. Following a careful review of 63 total submissions, eleven were selected for publication in this journal. Unique to this year’s special edition is the mixed selection of seven project team capstone papers, and four honors research papers. Each paper incorporated features of systems or industrial engineering and presented detailed and reflective analysis on the topic. Although there are many elements which cut across the works, three general bodies of knowledge emerged in the papers including: systems engineering and decision analysis, systems design, modeling and simulation, and system dynamics. Systems Engineering and Decision Analysis topics included three unique contributions. Recognized as ‘best paper’ at the 2020 virtual conference, the work of Robinson et al. designed a multi-year predictive cost engineering model enabled through an MS O365 Power BI decision support interface to support U.S. Army Corps of Engineer (USACE) inland waterway national investment strategies. Schloo and Mittal’s work presents research in testing and evaluation of the Engagement Skills Trainer (EST) 2000 towards improving real-world soldier performance. Gerlica et al. employs a robust and scalable K-means clustering methodology to improve decision making in defensive shift schemes for Air Force Baseball outfield personnel. Systems Design works included three unique contributions. Binney et al. worked to design evaluation criteria for military occupational specialties associated with open-source intelligence (OSINT) analysts for the Army’s OSINT Office. Hales et al. interdisciplinary work aided in the design of search and identification systems to be incorporated on autonomous robotics to enable survivability improvements for the Army’s chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosives (CBRNE) units. Burke and Connell evaluated and designed a performance measurement-based assessment methodology for U.S. Pacific Command’s Key Leader Engagement process. System modeling and simulation included three unique contributions: Arderi et al. simulated and assessed how the Hyper-Enabled Operator (HEO) project improves situational awareness for U.S. Special Forces using the Infantry Warrior Simulation (IWARS). Blanks et al. employed a VBA module and Xpress software for a scheduling optimization model for enhancement of final exam scheduling at the U.S. Air Force Academy. Kelley and Mittal utilized a Batch Run Analysis and Simulation Studio (BRASS) program to batch multiple iterations of IWARS scenarios to study the integration of autonomous systems alongside military units. Finally, two unique contributions utilizing system dynamics (SD) modeling is presented: Dixon and Krueger developed a Vensim SD model to examine how policy recommendations across Central America could restrict gang activities while positively promoting women’s involvement in society. Cromer et al. utilized systems design approaches and a K-means clustering machine learning techniques to develop SD models in support of the U.S. Africa Command and Defense Threat Reduction Agency to examine the interdependence of threats across the Horn of Africa. Thank you and congratulations to the 2020 undergraduate scholars and all authors who provided meaningful contributions through steadfast intellectual efforts in their fields of study! Well done! Abstract:

Abstract:
Islam exists to liberate mankind from unequal social conditions. Islam rejects all forms of tyranny, exploitation, domination, and hegemony in various aspects of life: economy, politics, culture, gender and others. Basically Islam never forbids women who want to work (career). This study tries to analyze the position of career women in the perspective of Maqashid sharia. This research was conducted using a conceptual approach, namely the Maqashid Shari'ah concept. The results of this study indicate that there are five objectives of maqashid ash-shari'ah, namely to protect or ensure the continuity of one's faith (hifdz ad-din), their lives (hifdz nafs), their minds (hifdz al-'aql), their descendants ( hifdz an-nasl) and their wealth (hifdz mal). All of these five main objectives of sharia are intended to promote the general welfare of mankind. There are many benefits of women working and pursuing their careers. Someone who works will earn income that makes himself independent (hifdz nafs), useful and can give alms to others as recommended by his religion (hifdz ad-din). A person who does alms and good deeds will get his own honor in the eyes of his community (hifdz al 'ird). Independence and honor have noble values that we can find in various verses of the Qur'an and the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad.

In honor of Dr. Ellen Winner, a preliminary analysis of the maps is offered using The Studio Thinking framework as a lens. Developed by Winner and her colleagues, the Studio Thinking framework identifies eight habits of mind—sometimes called thinking dispositions—that are characteristic of high-quality thinking in the arts and elsewhere. The article focuses on three of these dispositions in particular: Envision, Observe, and Express. With a twist, it also says a few words about a fourth, Understanding Art World.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The study of the history of diplomacy between the West and Islam is interesting to compare. Considering that the theory and science of relations between countries currently rely a lot on these two great civilizations; Islam and the West. Each influence each other and sometimes cannot be reconciled. The character of the West is more inclined to make diplomacy a tool to achieve the goals of the State by means of trickery and intrigue. So it seems very negative. Meanwhile, in the history of Islam as put by the Prophet Muhammad sallallhu 'alaihi wasallam, it is far from that bad stigma. Therefore, the conclusions of this paper are; Islam offers the power of diplomacy on the basis of equality between races, tribes and nations. Safeguard the lives, property and honor of diplomats. Keep safe between the strong and the weak. Keeping the diplomacy process away from fraud, trickery and violence. All of this shows that the Islamic conception of relations between States, between power in one area and another, is running in a modern and civilized manner.

Abstract:
AbstractIn many respects, masculinity in early China resembled practices which have been described by anthropologists researching the Mediterranean region. Maintaining a reputation for honor was particularly important to Chinese manhood. As the individual was tightly integrated into a social group, men had to control the behavior of those around them to defend themselves against possible shame. For this reason, men found it useful to regulate the sexual practices of female kin to defend their own honor. The emergence of female chastity was thus closely tied to the honor culture of early Chinese masculinity.

Abstract:
The first part of the article explores how concepts like "honor", "shame" and "guilt" are defined and described within anthropology, sociology and psychology, and highlights discourses within and between these disciplines. The second part is based on qualitative interviews with 24 young Norwegian Muslims. It analyzes their attitudes towards “honor” and “cultures of honor”– as they themselves define these concepts. How do they judge honor according to their own interpretation of Islam? How do they describe and evaluate attitudes and practices in the homeland of their parents? Do they attempt to distinguish between religion and culture in these questions? The majority scorn values and practices in cultures of honor. This is based on religion as well as pure human values. A minority believe honor is an Islamic value that contributes to high moral values.
