Abstract:
Stakeholder honesty is highly important for managers, for instance, in decisions involving hiring. Due to reciprocity, stakeholders are more likely to be honest if the managers act honestly themselves. However, external stakeholders often cannot observe managers’ actions and instead have to rely on signals. This article examines the effects of two signals—a manager’s owner family membership and religious affiliation—on stakeholder honesty. By conducting an economic experiment and a survey, we find that stakeholders behave more honestly toward family managers compared to nonfamily managers. This effect is reinforced if the family manager is presented as religious.

Abstract:
Exposure to honesty in young children is a need in order to evaluate how the concept is internalized in themselves. It has an impact on the formation of children’s character in the future. This study aimed to reveal honest behavior in children. A total of 36 elementary school students consisting of 12 boys and 24 girls with aged 6 to 9 years old in Banda Aceh, Indonesia were selected as participants using random sampling. A ball-drawing task was used as a method to observe children’s honesty, every child was asked to draw a ball from an opaque box containing equal numbers of red and blue balls, in a closed room with a hidden camera. The results showed that there were only 25% of elementary school students behaved honestly, while the other 75% behaved dishonestly. It means that only a small number of students act honestly. Follow-up is needed to provide education related to the value of honesty in children from an early age.

Semantic structure, semantic evolution and specificity of speech usage of the lexical units “por’adochnoct’” (honesty) and “por’adochnyi chelovek” (honest man) are investigated on the material of the Russian National Corpus. It is established that: the moral category of honesty is ambiguous from the axiological point of view; the speech usage of the lexical units “honesty” and “honest man” suffers semantic shift and redistribution of semantic variants and appearance of speech tinge; those exponents can function in certain contexts as ideological words – as they change their axiological sign into the opposite one in the course of language user changing; the honesty psychological status remains sufficiently indefinite; separate “honesty factors” (integrity, veracity, fidelity, sincerity, fairness etc.) are verbalized in the honesty exponents speech usage; attributive extension of the names “honesty” and “honest man” give evidence of this moral quality gradual character; honesty possesses a hierarchy of certain obligatory and optional features

Abstract:
Education is a process where students can actively develop their potential. In the educational process, Islamic Religious Education teachers have a great task of educating and instilling honest personalities in students. Effective ways to instill an honest attitude start from the family, school and community. In fact, there are still many students who do not speak or act honestly in the school environment. This is something the teacher should pay attention to. One solution to solve this problem is to use exemplary strategies, advice, and habituation. This study used a qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with several informants in the category of educators and students in vocational high schools. The purpose of this study was to determine the strategy of PAI teachers in shaping the character of honesty as well as the supporting and inhibiting factors in the formation of the character of honesty. In this study, it was found that the principal and his staff used exemplary methods, advice, and habituation to shape the character of students at school. The results of the study show that teachers can provide good examples so that students can practice them in everyday life, and give advice wherever, whenever and this is done continuously, and with practice, students become accustomed to good manners and honest personalities. Supporting factors in the formation of the character of honesty with the presence of professional teachers and a more conducive school environment, as well as inhibiting factors in the formation of the character of honesty are the family environment and freedom in the use of gadgets. honesty character.

Abstract:
Communication depends on reliability. Yet, the existence of stable honest signalling presents an evolutionary puzzle. Why should animals signal honestly in the face of a conflict of interest? While students of animal signalling have offered several theoretical answers to this puzzle, the most widely studied model, commonly called the ‘handicap principle’, postulates that the costs of signals stabilize honesty. This model is the motivating force behind an enormous research enterprise that explores signal costs—whether they are physiological, immunological, neural, developmental or caloric. While there can be no question that many signals are costly, we lack definitive experimental evidence demonstrating that costs stabilize honesty. This study presents a laboratory signalling game using blue jays ( Cyanocitta cristata ) that provides, to our knowledge, the first experimental evidence showing honesty persists when costs are high and disappears when costs are low.

Abstract:
Dishonest behavior, such as corruption, bribery, etc., is often encountered. It is certainly contrary to the goals of national education. The character of honesty in elementary schools in Indonesia still needs to be instilled in students, considering that the honesty of students in elementary schools is still low. This study aims to analyze the strategy for implementing an honesty canteen, the obstacles to implementing an honesty canteen and the results of implementing an honesty canteen program in improving the honest character of students in elementary schools. The method used in this paper is a systematic literature review. The data at this writing uses articles from Google Scholar spanning the last ten years discussing the honesty canteen program. Data were analyzed using the keywords honesty canteen and honesty character. An assessment technique to check the validity of the data is carried out using source triangulation. The results of this study show that (1) the strategy for implementing the honesty canteen must involve the involvement of teachers, students, as well as all people in the school environment, (2) the lack of honest canteen management in elementary schools makes it difficult for students to return their returns. It is because sometimes there is no small money in the canteen. (3) the honesty canteen is carried out through a self-service system program; students carry out personal services at the stages of product transaction needs through this system. Students are trained to be honest when buying meals at the honesty canteen.

Abstract:

This quantitative study investigates cyber-plagiarism among undergraduate college students, particularly the prevalence and motives for copying and pasting unattributed sources on written assignments within the theoretically rich and broader context of self-efficacy theory.

Four-hundred-thirty-seven students from three universities completed an online survey designed to examine the relationship between cyber-plagiarism and measures of self-efficacy. A Pearson Correlation revealed no empirical evidence to support the hypothesis that students cyber-plagiarize because they lack an ability to synthesize. The results also indicated that students do not perceive cyber-plagiarism as a socially acceptable practice at their universities, and that they strongly believe in an author's ownership in the digital age. Respondents reported that they almost never participate in cyber-plagiarism, yet perceive cyber-plagiarism as a prevalent practice among their peers.

Abstract:
We study an additive perturbation theorem for substochastic semigroups which is known as Kato's Theorem. There are two previously-known generalisations of Kato's Theorem, namely for abstract state spaces and for KB-spaces. We prove a version of Kato's Theorem for a class of spaces which encompasses both, namely ordered Banach spaces with generating cone and monotone norm. We also study a property of the perturbed semigroup in Kato's Theorem known as honesty of the semigroup. We add a few results to the fairly extensive existing theory of honesty for Kato's Theorem for abstract state spaces. In light of our new generalisation of Kato's Theorem to ordered Banach spaces with monotone norm, we investigate generalising the theory of honesty to these spaces as well. The results for the general case are less complete as many of the results for the case of abstract state spaces depend on the additive norm structure of the space. We also consider some new applications of honesty theory in abstract state spaces. We begin by applying honesty theory to the study of the heat equation on graphs. We prove that honesty of the heat semigroup coincides with a concept known as stochastic completeness of the graph which has been studied independently of honesty. We then look at the application of honesty theory to quantum dynamical semigroups. We show that honesty is the natural generalisation of the concept of conservativity of quantum dynamical semigroups. Conservative quantum dynamical semigroups are known to have certain "nice" properties. We show that similar properties hold for honest semigroups using honesty theory results. Finally, we consider a form of boundary perturbations in the context of transport semigroups. There exists an analogous theory of honesty for this set-up. We formulate a general result from which honesty results of both Kato's Theorem and transport semigroups can be derived.

Abstract:
This study explores a model for the creative process to facilitate an honest, individualistic, empowering human experience for the dancers and choreographer in the Higher Ed dance studio. I investigated the role of choreographer as facilitator/collaborator and dancer as creator/co-owner to formulate a model aimed at developing connection. Over the course of eight weeks, I facilitated a creative process workshop. Eight undergraduate dance majors volunteered to be a part of the study. My evaluation was conducted through pre and post workshop interviews, self-journaling, group discussions, as well as video documentation. As a result, three themes and six sub-themes emerged from the data: Self-Realization with sub-themes of self-reflection, self-acceptance, and confidence; Safe Open Environment with sub-themes of group empathy and connection; and Using the Voice with a sub-theme of vulnerability. This model offers a safe environment geared toward using the voice, practicing vulnerability, and making individual artistic decisions.

Abstract:
Human behavior is strongly affected by social factors such as norms or social pressure, and economic decision making is not an exception. The impact of self and social image considerations is well documented in decisions ranging from contract enforcement to labor productivity. Therefore, understanding the social and moral dimensions of decisions remains an important topic in economic research. This dissertation includes different approaches, theoretical models and experimental designs, to provide insights regarding the impact of such concerns on both individual and collective choice. In the first chapter, we are interested in the micro-foundations of such concerns, and we explore it by extending the standard choice model to incorporate the social environment in decision making. We define different social environments, each with different social pressure levels a decision maker may feel while deciding. As proposed by experimental findings from different fields of research, the model assumes that individuals are more likely to comply with the norms when the social pressure is higher. We provide an axiomatization of the model and suggest a general form of utility representation. The key point of our representation is characterized by a monotone function which captures the intuition of this compromise in the following way: as social pressure increases the decision maker, if not more, cannot exhibit less concern for social image. Thus, the best option should move towards the norm. This choice data allows us to identify, although partially, the norm that applies to the decision problem at hand. The second chapter, takes the analysis of the previous one, one step further and let us reveal the norm to the full extent. We investigate the behavior of many individuals who have image concerns and have to make decisions in different social contexts. Moreover, by releasing the strict assumption on the alternative set, we provide a simple and natural measure of compromise rate. The final chapter complements the dissertation with experimental data that confirms that people are indeed take into account image considerations. Particularly, we are interested in the impact of advice on the lying behavior of the individuals. Although we don’t find any evidence that advice is used to manage one’s social image, it can be utilized to ease the psychological cost of dishonest behavior.

Abstract:
Honesty is clearly an important virtue. Parents want to develop it in their children. Close relationships typically depend upon it. Employers value it in their employees. Yet philosophers have said almost nothing about the virtue of honesty in the past fifty years. This book aims to draw attention to this surprisingly neglected virtue. Part I looks at the concept of honesty. It takes up questions such as what honesty involves, the motives of an honest person, how practical wisdom relates to honesty, and whether there is anything that connects all the different sides of honesty, including not lying, not stealing, not breaking promises, not misleading others, and not cheating. A central idea is that the honest person reliably does not intentionally distort the facts as she takes them to be. Part II looks at the empirical psychology of honesty. It takes up the question of whether most people are honest, dishonest, or somewhere in between. Drawing extensively on recent studies of cheating and lying in particular, the emerging model ends up implying that most of us have a long way to go to reach an honest character. Honesty: The Philosophy and Psychology of a Neglected Virtue thus provides a richer understanding of what our character actually looks like as well as what the goal of being an honest person really involves. It will then be up to us to decide if we want to take steps to shrink the character gap between the two.

Abstract:
The study examines the issue of identifying honesty as a stable quality of personality. In numerous studies of modern psychologists, only certain aspects of honesty are often studied, without taking into account the full range of qualities inherent in honest people. Also, honesty is partially considered by the developers of various tests designed to identify the character traits of applicants for certain vacancies – these surveys are used when hiring new employees. However, even with the overall success and objectivity of such tests, they often lack factors that allow them to be adapted for representatives of different cultures. This study is aimed at developing a test that can identify honesty and allow to assess the level of its development in respondents of different ages and levels of education. To achieve the goal, the incentive material of the survey was developed, a group of respondents was formed, comparative scales of the study were selected, analysis and interpretation of the results were carried out. Based on the results obtained, a conclusion is made about the effectiveness of the methodology used in identifying honesty.

Washington, Sally. Ministers and Officials: How to Get the Relationship Right. Australia and New Zealand School of Government, August 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.54810/wqsl1871.

Full text
Abstract:
Relationships between ministers and officials are fundamental to our system of government. The foundation of those relationships, like any relationship, is trust and mutual respect. It needs to be based on honesty, openness, and an understanding of each other’s roles and responsibilities. ANZSOG ran a series of events to explore both the supply and the ‘demand side’ of good policy and good decision making, and the crucial relationships at the political administrative interface. The ANZSOG series of conversations involved politicians and public servants, and were designed to shed light on what both sides can do to ensure the relationship is working at its best

Full text
Abstract:
This Groundwork seeks to offer reflections to help each person working for Busara understand how the organization thinks about DEI in theory and practice; it also offers insights on how each of us can work towards a more diverse, more equitable, and more inclusive organization. This process requires applying to ourselves the honesty that we champion, but often also struggle to maintain when we look at ourselves. It means to admit challenges freely, address them without judgement, check whether our beliefs are unclear, acknowledge emotions—and then start again. DEI is circular, non-ending work without clear key performance indicators, but with an emphasis on a process that can expand our beliefs and practice while cushioning or maturing our emotions.

Melnyk, Olesia. MEDIA DISCOURSE AROUND THE FIGURE OF ORIANA FALLACHI AND HER JOURNALISM DURING 2017–2020. Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, March 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.30970/vjo.2021.50.11114.

Full text
Abstract:
The article analyzes the media discourse around the figure of Oriana Fallachi and her journalistic work during 2017-2020. The actual media image of the figure of Fallachi is highlighted, examples of positive and negative statements are given. It is substantiated why her journalism should be researched in various ways, taking into account other aspects of her work that are not related to Islamophobia. The subject of the study is critical texts in modern foreign media dedicated to the author’s work. The objective of the study is to outline the media discourse around the figure of Oriana Fallaci and her journalism during 2017-2020. The methodology. The following methods have been used in the process of scientific research: historical, comparative, systems analysis, content synthesis, and others. The main results. In total, we have analyzed eight materials in foreign publications, published over the past 3 years, as well as the two most famous biographies of Oriana Fallaci. Some of the most recent reviewed texts have been published in the last few months, reflecting the interest in the author’s journalism, her writing, and reporting. Therefore, we see the need for further tracking and analysis of this body of texts. Conclusions. Critics of Fallaci express polar views that are not all negative. Authors recommend quite cautiously her texts for reading, emphasizing their positive aspects. Both Fallaci’s biographies are also not entirely complementary: some aspects of her work are glorified, others are condemned. We managed to find general tendencies in the criticism of Oriana Fallaci’s journalism. These include accusations of xenophobia and Islamophobia, uncompromisingness, lack of political correctness, and moral value. The authors emphasize, at the same time, the openness and directness that bribe the reader, patriotism and honesty, strength of spirit and firmness of position. Significance of the research. The analysis of the latest criticism reveals what kind of media image Fallachi’s figure has today, and gives the possibility to research it for demonization and one-sided coverage. This is important not only for thorough research of the author’s work but also for understanding how the modern world perceives journalism, which is contrary to the generally accepted principles of political correctness, journalistic ethics, and humanity.
