Abstract:
This research was conducted in the Bangka Belitung region specifically observing what criteria could support and hinder the development of home industries. The home industry is a small-scale industry generally carried out in the family sphere and is driven by women. Home industries need to receive support from the provincial government to survive and increase the scale of production. To make support for home industries more targeted, this research summarizes several criteria related to the conditions of home industries and the businesses they run. In Bangka Belitung Province, several types of businesses are run on a home industry scale. Based on the condition of the home industry which has multiple criteria and multiple alternatives, this research uses the Analytical Hierarchy Process method and Expert Choice software as data processing aids. The data processing results show that industrial business is the highest alternative with a weight of 24.7% and the highest criterion is strategy at 23.7%. These results indicate that the largest portion of home industry business actors is engaged in the industrial sector and to encourage the progress of the home industry the most important factor is strategy, namely understanding the type of business they are involved in, labor-intensive industries, paying attention to production factors, electricity capacity, and business operations. The next stage is to design a user interface for a web-based system as a means of collecting home industry data.

Abstract:
This study defines and examines kibbutz industries as an expanded form of family business. It explores the sociological characteristics of this new type of enterprise, extending familial business culture theory innovatively by adding a new category of business to those already described in the relevant literature. The research addressed multiple case studies, using anthropological interviews and document analysis methods to explore three new familial types: 1. Communal Familial Type, Kibbutz industries that are still communal and have retained familial attributes; 2. Business Communal Familial Type, Kibbutz industries that have undergone privatization, retaining only half the communal cultural features typical of kibbutzim and displaying greater business orientation; 3. Business Type, Kibbutz industries that have lost their familial attributes or communal cultural features. The first two types maintain kibbutz community and industrial sustainability, while the last can be a threat to kibbutz sustainability.

Abstract:
The development of home industries based on cultural values is one of the strategies used by the Indonesian government to alleviate poverty in rural communities. In the development of home industries, a model of cultural transformation based on local wisdom offers opportunities for communities to show their local identity and local potential as well as displaying their own uniqueness. The goal of this research is to discover how the transformation of local culture based on local wisdom takes place in the development of home industries in rural communities. The research method is qualitative and uses a case study approach which examines the shift in cultural values and the importance of local wisdom in the development of home industries. In this case study, the data collection includes various sources, such as observation, interviews, FGDs, audio visual material, documents, and reports. The research results show that the development of home industries in rural areas is full of dynamics in the cultural transformation from an agrarian culture to an industrial culture. This cultural transformation has a multiplier effect and acts as a trigger and determining factor in rural development.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Favelas are low-income urban communities in Brazil, and Maré in Rio de Janeiro has the largest cluster of favelas in the country. The prevailing view of a unique, regulated, and normative city conflicts with the reality of the continued expansion of the favelas, posing challenges for architects and urban planners in developing new strategies for integrating informal areas with the main city. This study focused on a decaying industrial area adjacent to the Maré favelas and explored a sustainable path for improving both the quality of the built environment and the quality of life of the residents. Effective infrastructure and socioeconomic links between the favelas and the city were proposed. The home production model that emerged from the favelas inspired the use of the abandoned industrial area as a home-industry incubator. The study proposed an urban regeneration strategy involving a bottom-up industry-space process evolving from home industries to group industries, and finally to larger community industries. This strategy can accelerate Maré’s development and integration with the city of Rio de Janeiro.

Demirbilek, Mustafa. "Dynamically accepting and scheduling patients for home healthcare." Thesis, University of Warwick, 2018. http://wrap.warwick.ac.uk/110628/.

Full text
Abstract:
Importance of home healthcare is growing rapidly since populations of developed and even developing countries are getting older quickly and the number of hospitals, retirement homes, and medical staff do not increase at the same rate. We present Scenario Based Approach (SBA) for the Home Healthcare Nurse Scheduling Problem. In this problem, arrivals of patients are dynamic and acceptance and appointment time decisions have to be made as soon as patients arrive. The primary objective is to maximise the average number of daily visits. For the sake of service continuity, patients have to be visited at the same days and times each week during their service horizon. SBA is basically a simulation procedure based on generating several scenarios and scheduling new customers with a simple but fast heuristic. Then results are analysed to decide whether to accept the new patient and at which appointment day/time. First, two different versions of SBA, Daily and Weekly SBA are developed and analysed for a single nurse. We compare Daily SBA to two greedy heuristics from the literature, distance and capacity based, and computational studies show that Daily SBA makes significant improvements compared to these other two methods for a single nurse. Next, we extend SBA for a multi-nurse case. SBA is compared to a greedy heuristic under different conditions such as same depot case where nurses start their visits from and return to same place, clustered service area, and nurses with different qualification level. SBA gives superior results under all experiment conditions compared to the greedy heuristic.

Guros, Frankie. "Thinking About Work at Home: Implications for Safety at Work." PDXScholar, 2015. https://pdxscholar.library.pdx.edu/open_access_etds/2624.

Full text
Abstract:
Safety at work is of the utmost importance to employees and the organizations they work for, and as such, it is a central issue for occupational health psychology. Although dramatic decreases in the number of worker injuries and fatalities have been observed over the last several decades, safety remains a principal concern for organizations. This is especially true in occupations in which employees face serious threats to their personal safety, such as correctional officers (COs). While a number of studies have identified workplace factors that contribute to worker safety, few have attempted to draw a link between employee nonwork experiences and safety at work. In the current study, a model was tested to examine whether the relationship between cognitive nonwork recovery experiences and safety performance at work was mediated by safety motivation. Specifically, the effort-recovery model (Meijman & Mulder, 1998) and the concept of self-regulatory resources (Muraven & Baumeister, 2000) were utilized to test these relationships. It was hypothesized that psychological detachment during nonwork time can replenish cognitive resources that employees need in order to feel motivated to be focused on safety in the workplace, and negative work reflection can drain these resources. Furthermore, drawing on Broaden-and-Build theory (Fredrickson, 1998) it was posited that positive work reflection during nonwork time would have a positive relationship with safety motivation. Additionally, it was hypothesized that the relationship between these cognitive recovery experiences and safety motivation would be moderated by individual perceptions of safety climate. The hypotheses were examined in a sample of COs (N = 166) from two correctional facilities in Oregon. The results overall did not provide strong empirical support for the model. No support was found for the role of psychological detachment or negative work reflection. Additionally, perceptions of safety climate did not moderate the relationship between cognitive recovery experiences and safety. However, positive work reflection during nonwork time was significantly associated with safety participation motivation, which in turn had a positive association with safety participation. Additionally analyses revealed that this relationship was reciprocal in nature when utilizing an additional sample four months after data collection, such that safety participation motivation and safety participation predicted positive work reflection. The findings from the current study build on the research between the work-life interface and safety at work, suggesting that positive nonwork experiences can potentially be related to discretional safety performance at work. Implications for practical applications and suggestions for future research are discussed.

Eihab, Abdelghaffar Elsharkawy Heba. "Home energy use, lifestyle, and behaviour : a community energy saving programme (CESP) survey in Aspley, Nottingham." Thesis, University of Nottingham, 2013. http://eprints.nottingham.ac.uk/28034/.

Full text
Abstract:
With increasing concern over national green house gas (GHG) emissions, combined with the widespread economic impact of global commodities such as coal, natural gas and oil and their effect on energy prices, improving household energy efficiency can be seen as a key vehicle against which both energy emissions can be reduced and domestic GHG emissions curtailed. It is argued that factors that form the basis of choices, habits and values of individuals dictate an individual's decision to either adopt environmentally sustainable behaviour or not. This research reflects on how this specific area of energy policy is being enacted through policy and regulation, notably through one of the Community Energy Saving Programme (CESP) schemes, rolled out by the UK government in 2009. Although Government can play a pivotal role helping people foster more sustainable behaviour, it must do so in a manner that engages individuals and the public at large. As such, the aim is to adopt a more long term outlook towards encouraging sustainable energy use. The research reflects therefore on the results of a two-phase survey questionnaire administered to the residents of a CESP scheme in Aspley, Nottingham. The questionnaire sought to identify how tenants of energy-inefficient homes tend to behave with respect to domestic energy consumption and how their dwellings performed. This was augmented by quantitative data comprising utility bill figures gathered from the homes under investigation. This study adopts a mixed method strategy where the researcher combines both quantitative and qualitative data in order to provide comprehensive analysis of the research problem. In this research, 'before-and-after design' survey design is set up to explore the associations between variables under study. The field work survey was performed in one of the pilot CESP schemes currently under delivery in the Aspley area of Nottingham. Designed and executed in two survey phases, the first phase sought to understand residents' attitudes and behaviour and explore how this related to home energy use and performance prior to extensive energy-related upgrades to their dwellings. The second survey phase sought to examine changes - if any - in users' energy consumption behaviour and dwelling performance after their homes were upgraded to higher energy efficiency standards. This second phase also explored the possible reasons for any behavioural change depicted; whether it was due to policy uptake, information provided or means of communicating energy saving advice. The Aspley area in Nottingham is identified as one of the most deprived areas in Nottingham, besides the number of inefficient solid wall houses that are 'hard to heat'. Thus, assessing the effectiveness of policy interventions requires a clear understanding of consumer behaviour and motivations across all income groups so that the most appropriate approaches are developed. As such, it is possible that government aspirations to reduce energy consumption will go unheeded if they are inconsistent with the social and physical context of real life. Financial costs, past behaviour, social values and physical infrastructure are considered some of the most difficult barriers to changing energy behaviours. Policies need not only inform people about technological improvements that can be installed in their homes, but should also strongly encourage and incentivise them to use them efficiently. The users' energy consumption behaviour and the policy interventions will make the difference between promising policy, and policy which in fact delivers on its aims for energy efficiency and sustainability.

Beauregard, Alexandra. "Interference between work and home : an empirical study of the antecedents, outcomes, and coping strategies amongst public sector employees." Thesis, London School of Economics and Political Science (University of London), 2004. http://etheses.lse.ac.uk/354/.

Full text
Abstract:
Work-home interference has been receiving increasing attention in the organizational behaviour literature. It is defined as a form of inter-role conflic t in which the demands of the work role and the demands of the home role are mutually incompatible. Existing research on work interference with home/home interference with work has focused on situational antecedents and attitudinal outcomes, with limited attention paid to gender- and disposition-based predictors, behavioural outcomes, and coping strategies associated with interference. Using a quantitative methodology, this thesis drew upon two separate samples of UK public sector employees, comprising 208 and 226 respondents respectively, to pursue three aims: 1) to examine the roles of gender and of personality in contributing to interference, as well as the potential for characteristics associated with one domain (e.g., home) to influence the degree of interference generated by the opposing domain (e.g., work); 2) to investigate the link between interference and extra-role work behaviours such as organizatio na l citizenship and workplace deviance; and 3) to extend existing knowledge of coping strategies for dealing with work-home interference. Findings indicated that gender moderated the effects of both home- and work-related characteristics on home interference with work, and that dispositional variables were capable of predicting work-home interference above and beyond the effects of situational characteristics. With regard to behavioural outcomes, work-home interference predicted increased workplace deviance amongst employees. Work interference with home was associated with greater employee participation in organizational citizenship behaviours, while the opposite was true for home interference with work. In terms of coping with interference, cognitive reappraisal was identified as the most effective strategy, and gender was found to moderate the effect of certain coping strategies on interference. Contributions of the thesis, major research and practical implications, and future research directions are discussed.

Patah, Mohd Onn Rashdi Abd. "Developing a career in the Malaysian hotel industry : a narrative analysis of the career experiences of local middle managers." Thesis, University of Warwick, 2017. http://wrap.warwick.ac.uk/104249/.

Full text
Abstract:
The career pathways and aspirations of the next generation of hotel managers have not been previously documented or studied thoroughly, primarily because the majority of available studies have focused on the success stories of current hotel general managers. Many career-related studies have highlighted the importance of career development, and the purpose of this study was to address this gap in the research in the hotel industry by exploring the career pathways of middle managers through the understanding of their educational and training background, career experiences, factors that contribute and opportunities available for them. A qualitative study, using interviews and narrative analysis, was conducted in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with 14 current hotel middle managers (the heads of hotel departments), 11 former middle managers and three hotel general managers. Participants were contacted via the professional social media platform, LinkedIn. Using Career Construction Theory (Savickas (2005)) and its three components of vocational personality, life theme and career adaptability as the meta-theory, this research examined the career experiences of participants to understand middle managers’ career pathways and aspirations from their own career stories or narratives. Each interview was recorded and transcribed and the responses were then coded by using the Atlas.tiTM software. The findings were used to discuss and address the research questions set for this research. The results were also linked to the managers’ career development opportunity structures, which may have influenced their decision to stay, progress or leave the industry. Several contributions were highlighted which include the importance of education and training, the personal narratives of each manager on their work experiences, the varied extent of the available opportunities, and the skills development of the middle managers in this research. Overall, it can be concluded that the middle managers’ career aspirations were individually constructed, contextualised by the opportunities available to them, continuous learning experiences, skills development, changes in their life stages, support that they received and the extent to which they were successful in adapting the challenges involved in their career transitions.

Abstract:
The purpose of this thesis is to explore the impact of the situation imposed by the spread of COVID-19 on people working in creative industries and their creative processes, and analyse the role of media in reconstructing their work and leisure spaces at home. The research topics include handling of this change by the creatives, the role of media in reconstructing creatives' homes and the impact of this situation on their creativity. The methodology for gathering data is centred around interviews with the representatives of the group of people working in the creative industries. The empirical data is analysed with the help of the theoretical framework. Among the theories, the six most important topics are: Connectivity versus connectedness, Front region and back region, Boundary theory, Transformations between regions, Reasons to disconnect from media, and Influences on creativity. On one hand, the conclusion of this thesis is that creatives were handling the change of their work environment mostly well, possibly, perhaps creativity is usually influenced by internal factors, and as such the changed work environment as an external factor doesn't influence it as much as the social isolation situation due to COVID-19 as a whole. On the other hand, for many creatives the changed work environment provided calmer conditions for work and offered more time for leisure, although the majority of the participants were working more in this new situation than before. Due to the fact that all of the interviewees had to use their digital technologies and internet in order to work, the escape to the offline world often served as a place for relaxation. Moreover, the majority of the interviewees' devices was used for multi-functional purposes, for both work and for relax. Ultimately the impact on the creatives and their work was studied from different perspectives, offering a snapshot of creative work in extraordinary times.

Abstract:
Background: With the emerge of increased digitalization and remote working due to the current pandemic Covid 19, leaders are challenged to adapt to the situation by leading virtually and changing normal work practices and processes. To maintain and follow the social guidelines made by the WHO, several companies have implemented remote working as a strategy that may affect the ability to be a productive leader.  Purpose: The purpose of this study is therefore to explore the influence remote working has had on leadership productivity due to Covid 19, and how this may hinder or benefit organizations in the creative industries.  Method: This research is an exploratory qualitative study conducted, focusing on one single organization where semi-structured, and in-depth interviews were held with eight participants who were all leaders in different forms. A thematic analysis was used to investigate the primary data.  Conclusion: The empirical findings suggest three main areas that explain the influence of re- mote working on leadership productivity: 1) Remote working in the creative industries are seen as having an overall successful impact on leadership productivity. 2) Leadership productivity is highly dependent on personal preferences and individual qualities. 3) A new type of business model is arising.

Abstract:
This chapter follows Moorcroft through the war, and examines his different strategies for survival and development in challenging conditions. He is seen to expand his commercial outlets, both at home and abroad, taking full advantage of the newly established British Industries Fair(s); his displays attracted the attention of new high-end retailers, and, very significantly, of Queen Mary. We witness, too, his resourcefulness in securing government contracts to supply inhalers and other functional objects, enabling him to minimise (though not to avoid) the depletion of his workforce. Extensive correspondence and other contemporary documents reveal the impact of rising costs, shortage of materials, increasingly slow payment of invoices, and the loss of labour through conscription or compulsory redeployment; such pressures were exacerbated, by cruel coincidence, by the death of his (one) thrower. We explore, too, the significance of Moorcroft’s commitment to handcraft against the background of the Design and Industries Association, founded in 1915 in response to a growing concern about the need for more mechanised modes of production in a post-war world. Moorcroft explored the viability of creating by hand pottery both beautiful and useful in a modern industrial world. In the course of the war, his work was commercially successful, his sensitivity to the public mood eloquently expressed in his designs, and regularly praised in reviews. He was treading his own individual path, well prepared to confront the economic and cultural turbulence of the 1920s.

Abstract:
Having a personal computer (PC) and related electronic equipment in the majority of US homes today is accepted without question. In the same vein, having a personal turbine (PT) in the home could also be taken for granted in coming decades to assure a constant and reliable source of electrical power, which is paramount in the e-business era. As addressed in this paper, gas turbine technology has advanced to the point where a natural gas-fired PT, rated at about 5 kW could reliably provide the total energy needs of an average home. The Industrial Revolution of the 18th Century, in which a centralized factory replaced cottage industries, was made possible by introduction of the steam engine. In the 21st Century IT Revolution, the situation will have essentially gone the full circle, with a high percentage of service industry work being done in the home. For individuals using the Internet for conducting business a reliable source of electrical power is mandatory. Alas, this can no longer be assured by the US power grid which is quickly reaching its capacity, and increasing outages will become more commonplace. One solution to this could be the use of PT’s in homes in both cities and remote areas. Also it would be ideally suited to applications in the developing countries, where it could provide the total energy needs of villages and small communities. In this introductory paper it is projected that when mass produced in very large quantities like automobile turbochargers, the PT unit cost would be competitive.

Abstract:
Fluid mechanics concerning Newtonian fluids has been established and the fundamental equation has been analyzed theoretically or with computers. But sometimes the problems encountered in industries or laboratories are too complicated to be solved by theoretical or computational analyses, so that experiments become important. Furthermore, experiments are very fruitful for beginners to feel the motion of fluid actually. This report presents a few methods for the aim that undergraduates do simple experiments in their class or at their homes. One method is a measurement of the drag coefficient of a cylinder by use of a tissue paper. The other method is to feel a lift by use of a spoon and the city water issuing out of a faucet and estimate the coefficient of lift by utilizing the law of momentum.

Abstract:
The current period is evidence of the massive replacement of human strength by the results of the mental cognitive work of researchers. To cope with this situation, it is necessary to examine the impact of these technologies on the quality of life in the work and home environment when introducing new technologies. The main purpose of this work will be the collection of physiological functions such as heart rate in real-time from wearable sensors by creating an application that automatically collects sensor data. The work also proposes a mobile application that will be able to read the sensor data from the database and display it. The data from the sensors will be later used in a complex system and its proposal will also be described in this paper. Such a system could be used in many industries, like the automotive industry, industrial factories, smart homes and even education.

Full text
Abstract:
Drilling is one of the most commonly used machining processes in various industries such as automotive, aircraft and aerospace, dies/molds, home appliance, medical and electronic equipment industries. Due to the increasing competitiveness in the market, cycle times of the drilling processes must be decreased. Moreover, tight geometric tolerance requirements in designs, drilled hole precisions must be increased in production. On the other hand, process engineers have to be conservative when selecting machining conditions with respect to metal removal rate in order to avoid undesirable cases such as drill breakage, excessive cutter deflection and undesirable hole profile problems. In this research, a new mathematical model based on the mechanics and dynamics of the drilling process is developed for the predictions of cutting forces and hole qualities in advance. A new method is also proposed in order to obtain cutting coefficients directly from a set of relatively simple calibration tests. The model is able simulate the cutting forces for various cutting conditions in the process planning stage. In structural dynamics module, measured frequency response functions of the spindle and tool system are integrated into the model in order to obtain drilled hole profiles. Therefore, in addition to predicting the forces, the new model allows to determine and visualize drilled hole profiles in 3D and to select parameters properly under the manufacturing and tolerance constraints. Extensive number of experiments is performed to validate the theoretical model outputs with the measured forces and CMM hole profiles. It is observed that model predictions agree well with the force and CMM measurements. Some of the typical calibration and validation results are presented in this paper.

Abstract:
This paper applies loan-level information from Paycheck Protection Program loans to analyze the coverage of this extraordinary lending program. We show that loans went to a large share of small businesses across most industries in the US, especially to industries that were most negatively impacted by COVID-19 stay-at-home orders. We geocode the loans and then identify that 2021 loans were more concentrated in low- and moderate-income communities, along with census tracts where minority residents are a majority of the population. The growth of nonemployer loans and fintech lending in the program were key components of the broadened reach of the program.

Abstract:
Geelong and the Surf Coast are treated here as one entity although there are marked differences between the two communities. Sitting on the home of the Wathaurong Aboriginal group, this G21 region is geographically diverse. Geelong serviced a wool industry on its western plains, while manufacturing and its seaport past has left it as a post-industrial city. The Surf Coast has benefitted from the sea change phenomenon. Both communities have fast growing populations and have benefitted from their proximity to Melbourne. They are deeply integrated with this major urban centre. The early establishment of digital infrastructure proved an advantage to certain sectors. All creative industries are represented well in Geelong while many creatives in Torquay are embedded in the high profile and economically dominant surfing industry. The Geelong community is serviced well by its own creative industries with well-established advertising firms, architects, bookshops, gaming arcades, movie houses, music venues, newspaper headquarters, brand new and iconic performing and visual arts centres, libraries and museums, television and radio all accessible in its refurbished downtown area. Co-working spaces, collective practices and entrepreneurial activity are evident throughout the region.

Abstract:
We study the role of multinationals (MNCs) in facilitating firm-level and aggregate structural transformation. Using a stylized model of multinational production and trade, we show that an inward multinational liberalization in the manufacturing sector raises employment in host country firms, and decreases manufacturing employment, while also raising services employment, in the parent firms. We also show the conditions under which aggregate structural transformation occurs. We test the models firm-level predictions by using confidential microdata from Japan. We study the response of Japanese MNC parents and their affiliates in China to an exogenous change in China's openness to foreign direct investment (FDI). We find that in industries where inward FDI was encouraged, Japan MNCs' affiliates in China experienced increases in their employment. We also find that MNC parents in the encouraged industries experienced decreases in home country manufacturing employment and increases in home country services and R&D employment. Finally, using microdata for several advanced and middle-income countries, we decompose the change in overall manufacturing employment shares into MNC and non-MNC components. We find a significant role for MNCs across all countries, suggesting the mechanism we highlight is an important global driver of structural transformation.

Mineta Transportation Institute, August 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.31979/mti.2022.2147.

Abstract:
Telecommuting, the practice of working remotely at home, increased significantly (25% to 35%) early in the COVID-19 pandemic. This shift represented a major societal change that reshaped the family, work, and social lives of many Californians. These changes also raise important questions about what factors influenced telecommuting before, during, and after COVID-19, and to what extent changes in telecommuting have influenced transportation patterns across commute modes, employment, land use, and environment. The research team conducted state-level telecommuting surveys using a crowd-sourced platform (i.e., Amazon Mechanical Turk) to obtain valid samples across California (n=1,985) and conducted state-level interviews among stakeholders (n=28) across ten major industries in California. The study leveraged secondary datasets and developed regression and time-series models. Our surveys found that, compared to pre-pandemic levels, more people had a dedicated workspace at home and had received adequate training and support for telecommuting, became more flexible to choose their own schedules, and had improved their working performance—but felt isolated and found it difficult to separate home and work life. Our interviews suggested that telecommuting policies were not commonly designed and implemented until COVID-19. Additionally, regression analyses showed that telecommuting practices have been influenced by COVID-19 related policies, public risk perception, home prices, broadband rates, and government employment. This study reveals advantages and disadvantages of telecommuting and unveils the complex relationships among the COVID-19 outbreak, transportation systems, employment, land use, and emissions as well as public risk perception and economic factors. The study informs statewide and regional policies to adapt to the new patterns of telecommuting.

Van Biesebroeck, Johannes. Productivity, Exporting and Financial Constraints of Chinese SMEs. Inter-American Development Bank, April 2014. http://dx.doi.org/10.18235/0011638.

Full text
Abstract:
While many studies explain the correlation between firm-level productivity and export status entirely by better firms self-selecting into exporting, a few studies find evidence of reverse causation. Especially in developing or ransition economies, exporters seem to improve performance after they start selling internationally. We provide evidence that the realization of scale conomies is one possible explanation for such a learning-by-exporting effect. Exporting enables small firms to expand output and exploit all scale economies that the production technology allows. With access to finance problems and weak contract enforcement at home, domestic expansion of SMEs is constrained by the necessity of awarding trade credit to new clients. We show that small firms with a lot of outstanding trade credit expand sales the most following export market entry. This is especially true if they operate in industries with higher scale economies or if they are located in provinces with weaker institutions. The same type of firms also enjoy the largest productivity gains immediately following export market entry.

Full text
Abstract:
Utah’s abundant energy and mineral resources are used to heat homes, drive industry, and keep the lights on. Effectively managing these energy and mineral resources and their associated supply chains requires knowledge of their economic value and how they currently contribute to Utah’s economy. This report calculates the total economic contribution of Utah’s energy and mining industries for 2019 and 2020. Each industry makes substantial contributions to Utah’s gross domestic product, employment, and tax base. Collectively, these industries contributed over 10% to Utah's total Gross Domestic Product (GDP), supported over 7% of its jobs, and contributed 20% to state tax revenue. Not only do these industries produce sizable economic value, they also create high-paying jobs. Average wages for the energy and mining industries were calculated to be $22,415 (45%) and $13,652 (28%) above the overall state average wage, respectively.
