Abstract:

Uppsala like many other Swedish cities is affected by heavy housing shortage, in terms of too few existing flats and residents within the city limits. Every semester thousands of new students are facing the same problems of finding themselves adequate accommodation. The waiting lists for flats and student-dorms are getting longer for each year, and the situation is just getting worse. Simultaneously, Uppsala’s ambition is to increase its population and expand as a Swedish metropolitan, according to the Swedish governmental environment goals. This paper investigates and analyses the possibilities of expanding a city’s population by building high-rise buildings. A city developed with high-rise buildings will provide different conditions and penalties than what we have formerly been used to in Sweden. Therefore we have analysed the eventual outcome in a few different areas which would most likely be affected by an upcoming progress including constructions of high-rise buildings. The examined areas are production costs, energy efficacy, cityscape and community related issues. To set clear boundaries regarding the reports extent, we have chosen to focus on Uppsala as a city in particular. Ultimately, the results of different studies and comparisons have been discussed with the origin of promoting the benefits of different solutions. The report reveals that high-rise constructions could contribute with considerably more positive outcomes than people without deep understanding within the subject could possibly imagine. Other, more social related questions in this context need attention as well. For example: How would it work on a practical level for the inhabitants of Uppsala if the buildings suddenly were a lot higher than what they used to be? Would these buildings take attention away from the Uppsala castle and the cathedral? Would Uppsala even remain a pleasant place to live in? Questions such as these together with other social related issues have been discussed in this report as well. The report has been carried out in collaboration with the building contractor JM AB, from which data and information on various intervals have been taken.

Abstract:

During the mid-1960s, the Swedish government decided to build one million dwellings over the ten following years. This was a political project that later on became known as the million program, even though no real program ever existed. The basis for the decision was housing shortages and increasing housing queues. In previous research, mainly individual residential areas built during the million program have been objects of study. These areas and also the million program as a political project, were early critized and have since it’s creation undergone a stigmatization process, concerning both the design of the areas, its buildings and also their inhabitants. Since the 1960s, the development of the society has moved towards a greater faith in market forces, which is a process that has affected both housing policies and planning. The view of the dwelling has altered from a social right to a commodity, while the citi-zen has become a consumer. The aim of the study is to identify how the concept the million program is being described on the editorial pages in Swedish daily press today, and how it is being used as an argument in the debate concerning housing policy due to the housing shortages of today. The central analytical concept in this study is the million program. The study explores, through a content analysis, how the million program is represented and how it is used in the debate concerning housing policies in the editorial pages in Swedish daily press. Study results show that the million program is pictured in mainly negative terms, and that it is used as an example of one of the failures in the de-bate concerning Swedish housing and planning policies.

En stor befolkningsökning i en stad leder till att man måste börja planera för en förtätning.Som undersökningsområde har jag valt Stockholm som står inför en stor utmaning i framtidennär man behöver bygga fler bostäder, bland annat diskuteras förtätning som ett hållbartalternativ till att lösa problemet. I studien har höghus som förtätningsmetod analyserats samthur ett höghus kan påverka en stad.Syftet med det här arbetet är att undersöka hur en förtätning med hjälp av höghus påverkaren stad genom att studera Stockholm som undersökningsområde. För att ta reda på detta harstudien använt sig av en teoretisk bakgrund och en empirisk del. Den teoretiska bakgrundenhandlar om tidigare studier av personer som skrivit om täthet, förtätning och höghus. Denempiriska delen har skett med hjälp av intervjuer från relevanta aktörer inom arkitekt-,byggnads-, och politikbranschen. Metoden som använts i studien och vid intervjuerna ärkvalitativa metoder i form av semistrukturerade intervjuer.Resultatet visar att förtäta Stockholm med höghus kan både ses som något positivt ochnegativt beroende på varje enskilda fall som behandlas. Enligt resultatet verkar höghus varaen mer omständig byggnadstyp till skillnad från exempelvis kvartersstäder eftersom höjden påhöghus kan förstöra Stockholms stadsbild. Dock kan höjden på höghus även vara ett exempelpå en statussymbol som Stockholm behöver i stadsbilden.

Abstract:

Det finns idag planer på, att i parken ovanpå Stadshagens tunnelbanestation, bygga ett bostadshus. Mitt förslag är ett tiovåningshus med offentliga lokaler i gatuplan och på våning ett, och fyra lägenheter per våning på resterande våningsplan. De offentliga lokalerna består av ett kafé med tillhörande utställningslokal i gatuplan och verkstäder för barn på våning ett. Med min byggnad vill jag bidra till att skapa ett mer aktivt gatuliv i den här delen av Stadshagen. Jag vill skapa lägenheter som tar till vara på ljuset på platsen, och eftersom tomten är smal också skärmas av från omkringliggande hus. Huset bygger på ett spel mellan slutet och öppet och mellan tunga och lätta material. Det är uppbyggt av bärande betongskivor som ger lägenheterna en tydlig riktning, dels mot gatan och dels mot parken. Mellan dessa bärande väggar finns väggar som består av ett ramverk i trä, och det är framförallt här lägenheterna öppnas upp. Ljuset är i fokus i lägenheterna, och de som vetter mot gatan har norrljus och varsin ateljé medan de som vetter mot parken har söderljus och varsin stor balkong.
There are plans to build a residential building above the underground station of Stadshagen. My proposal is a 10 floor building with public functions on the ground floor (a café and an art gallery) and on the first floor (workrooms for children). On the other eight floors there are flats. With this building, I would like to create a more vivid street life in this part of Stadshagen. Moreover, I want to create flats that use the light on the site, and since the site is very narrow I also want them to open up to the street and the park while blocking the insight from the neighbouring buildings. In my building, I have used heavy and light materials, load bearing concrete walls and wooden frames, to direct the flats to the street and to the park. Between the concrete walls, where the wooden frames are, the flats open up. Light is in focus, the flats facing the street (with light from the north) have studios and the flats facing the park (with light from the south) have large balconies.

Abstract:

Vi har undersökt SVTs förortsredaktioners dolda läroplan för att öka förståelsen för de nyhetsvärderande processer som pågår inom SVT när de rapporterar från förorter. Forskningen har bedömt journalistiken har bedömts som oförmögen att gestalta förorten på ett adekvat sätt, eftersom journalisterna ofta saknar erfarenhet av att bo och leva i en förort. Konsekvensen av detta har varit att en skadligt stereotyp bild av förorten förmedlas. Vi vill ta reda på ifall förortsredaktionernas arbete skulle kunna motverka stigmatiseringen av samhället. Vi har studerat vilka ideal, strukturer och konventioner som styr nyhetsvärderingen på SVTs nyöppnade redaktioner i Rinkeby och Södertälje. Genom att analysera journalistiken som kultur har vi kunnat förstå vilka ideal som nyhetsvärderingen följer. Vi redoviserar också hur nyhetsvärderingen går till, vart den tar plats och hur den lärs ut till nyanställda. Slutligen presenterar vi också på vilket sätt förortsredaktionen arbetar i förhållande till förorten som kulturell kontext.

Abstract:

In the report we have investigated four high-rise buildings with the intentions to find out witch parts are prefabricated and what relation can be found between structural design, prefabrication and the logistics.

After the investigation we noticed that the grad of prefabrication in each one of the projects is good in relation to what purpose the building have and the given background. During the report we found that layout – structural design – prefabrication – logistics is an order that we think can make the production of the building more effective if followed. We believe that the prefabrication of high-rise buildings have potential to grow and get more optimized in the future.
