Hobyot is a Semitic language with a very limited number of speakers in the east of Yemen and the south of the Sultanate of Oman and classified by UNESCO as a "seriously endangered" language. Abstract:
This thesis looks at Bulmer Hobson, the Irish nationalist and Quaker. It is not concerned with the later phase of Hobson's career, fi•om 1908 when he was based in Dublin, but with the earlier one in Ulster. The thesis charts Hobson's formative years and the important influences on him during this period. The early part of the thesis pays particular attention to Hobson's Quakerism and nationalism and the interaction between the two. It looks at the development of this synthesis which provided the basis for Hobson's 'defensive warfare' programme which served as a blueprint for achieving independence from the British and which Hobson applied through the Irish independence movement, Sinn Fein. As part of this the thesis looks at Hobson's early work, both with and in setting up cultural nationalist organizations in Belfast. From here, the thesis goes on to look at how Hobson incorporated Quaker and nationalist influences into his later nationalist work in Ulster, paying particular attention to the work of Hobson's organization, the Dungannon Club. The second part of the thesis looks at the formation and expansion of this organization and its successor, the Sinn Fein League. In looking at both, the thesis examines the two organizations' relationships with other Sinn Fein and non Sinn Fein organizations, as well as the advanced nationalist organization, the Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB). While the thesis is concerned with Hobson's career in Ulster, it does not look at this in isolation from the rest of the Irish nationalist movement; instead it links it to wider developments in Ireland, Britain and America. As part of this, particular attention is paid to organizations like the Irish Republican Brotherhood, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Independent Orange Order, the United Irish League and Clan-naGael. The thesis looks at how Hobson tried to pull these various organizations together, as part of a new 'Young Ireland' movement based around his socioeconomic programme, but it recognises this ultimately failed.

Abstract:
Thesis with the title: Oboe - history and evolution of the instrument deals with gradual development of double reeds wind instruments since prehistorical times until now. It should benefit wind instrument players and espetially oboe players. This thesis is devided to fourteen chapters. First chapter sums up the history of the oldest double reeds instruments. Second continues with the description of shawms, which were direct predecessors of oboe. Following chapter describes most important part of oboe, as reed is, and shows its origin and evolution. Fourth and fifth chapters of the thesis deal with history of creation and development of baroque oboe and its reed. Continuing with chapter nuber six, which contains information about english horn as one of oboes related instruments, and chapter seven mentioning oboe da caccia. In eighth chapter we can find description of 18th century oboe developement and onwards the most famous players of oboe in chapter nine. In thenth chapter of the thesis we can find detailed description of oboe d'amoure. Most important literature written for oboe "d'amoure" is found in chapter number eleven. Chapter twelve contains evolution of the instrument in 18th century and personates most significant players of their time. Number thirteen summarizes information about oboe in 19th century. The contemporary shape of oboe as well as its current world vendor offer we can find in the last fourteenth chapter of the thesis.

Abstract:
This essay focuses on Bilbo Baggins’ journey towards becoming a hero in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit. In order to analyse Bilbo’s development as a character, Joseph Campbell’s theory of the hero’s quest is applied to his journey. Since Bilbo does not possess the traits of a traditional hero character, the model is not expected to fit Bilbo’s journey. However, the model does actually fit his journey, in contradiction to the expected. This essay also argues for the use of The Hobbit in the EFL classroom since the novel’s variety of themes and large fandom can work as an incentive for students to analyse fantasy in order to get familiar with older literature and use the fantasy worlds as a metaphor for our own world. Since the main focus of this essay is on archetypes the critical lens is archetypal criticism.

Abstract:
This master´s thesis discusses the most important czech international music competition Prague Spring which has a worldwide meaning. The competition is at first introduced in the historical context and then the specific chapters are dedicated to the individual years in which oboe was the subject to compete and also has had along with other woodwind instruments its own place in the competition since 1953. This thesis also follows progress of each competition year given within its repertoir in particular rounds, competition rules which were changed frequently, members of jury and mainly its laureates. Important complements to the individual chapters are laureates´ biographies pointing out influence of the competition to their professional artistic careers.

Abstract:
Following Diploma Thesis is focused on problematic of oboe teaching to beginners at an Art School. My objective was to summarize the issues as well as a help when solving out the problems whilst teaching. This Thesis might as well be used as a teaching methodology for an incipient teacher. The main source of information was my own experience as well as the experience of other pedagogues from the educational practice. In the individual chapters there I concentrated on selection of a pupil, suitable age for playing, prerequisites, a correct breathing technique and breathing exercises, the embouchure, a reed for the beginners, an issues of the instruments and their rent or purchase all of which is followed by difficulties occurring with gradual technique of advanced level and a switchover from an automatic system of the instrument to a semi-automatic one. I also mention here instrumental schools, etudes or performances which are available in our country and are also suitable for education. I have also included a chapter about home practicing, means of expression, stage fright, motivation, playing by heart and playing in an orchestra or in a chamber ensemble, or even about competitions. Part of my Thesis is also a questionnaire, which had been answered by teachers of an Art School, and which I made conclusions of.

Isang Yun and his works for oboe is a title of this master thesis. It introduces a personality of a Korean composer Isang Yun and it focuses on his works for oboe. The first chapter contains resumé of principal moments of the composer´s life. The next chapter briefly touches characteristics of a traditional Korean music, how the western culture is displayed in the Korean music, what is her influence on the Korean music and their inosculation into each other. The following chapter describes a compositional style of Isang Yun in which elements of both different cultures combine in a unique way. Yun´s work is devided here into five stylistic periods and in this chapter one fractional subchapter is also introduced where an insight into a few compositional techniques of the composer, can be found. Final chapter contains analysis of five compositions, which Isang Yun wrote for oboe "Piri, Doppelkonzert for oboe and harp, Rondell, Quartett for oboe and strings and Bläserquintett.

Abstract:

The purpose of this essay is to analyze Tolkien’s work The Hobbit since this has not been done to the same extent as the Lord of the Rings. The aim of this essay is see if the hobbit Bilbo is a hero and if so in what way. The questions I aim to answer in this essay are:

• Why does the main character leave his home?

• What creatures does the hero encounter on his journey and how does he defeat these?

• In what ways is Bilbo a hero?

• How does Tolkien narrate The Hobbit?

To answer these questions I have used Jung’s archetype theory which is useful when comparing different works and looking for similarities. I have partly used the approach of psychoanalysis as well, where knowledge of the author is important when interpreting the work.

The reason the main character, Bilbo, leaves his home is part curiosity and part that he is forced by others to go. On his journey he encounters many different creatures including trolls, goblins, the creature Gollum, spiders, wood-elves and the dragon Smaug. Bilbo uses his wits and bravery to survive the different creatures he meets. Bilbo is a hero in that, even though he may not have what is usually characteristic for a hero, he tries his best and many times acts first and thinks later to save his friends. Through the encounters in the world, the main character Bilbo develops into a hero. The author mostly uses the view of a third-person narrative, but sometimes intrudes and turns directly to the reader. The work shares narrative features with how oral narratives are told, and the narrator is omniscient. In his work, you can trace older stories and traditions which the author was very familiar with.

Since Africa’s decolonization a number of foreign economic actors have begun toemerge in several African countries and they prove a vital role in many ways. China isone of the largest actor and they have a long history of political and economic ties withAfrica. China act primarily in Africa to meet their growing economy’s demand fornatural resources, and by providing aid and trade with development countries in Africathey get important natural resources like oil and iron ore in return. This has sparked adebate in western societies which accuses China of being imperialistic and that they onlybenefit their own needs. China on the other hand claims that their aid and trade withdevelopment countries in Africa is for a mutual benefit. The purpose of this study was toinvestigate whether there was any truth in the western accusations of China beingimperialistic based on two well-known and established theories of imperialism. Byhighlighting the features that the theories considered to be imperialistic, China’s doingsin Africa could be analyzed. The conclusion was that there may be some concern withsome aspects of China’s dealings in Africa but it would be presumptuous to call themimperialistic.

Abstract:
This thesis argues for the power of story and, in particular, the story of The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien to help build optimism and hope. The Hobbit is under-used in primary schools and this thesis demonstrates that it is eminently suitable for children. Without imagination children are vulnerable to sadness and despair. The positive development of imagination through heroic tales is likely to benefit children emotionally and psychologically. The story of The Hobbit can be utilised to develop the concept of the Hero's Journey, a persistent trope in oral and recorded literature and an archetype for virtually all human experience. In addition, the thesis shows that critical thinking skills and multiple intelligences can be developed through the use of The Hobbit. Depression in young people is now recognised as a serious public health problem in Australia. Research supports the view that children need optimism. This thesis discusses statistics regarding the increased prevalence of childhood depression and aggression as well as alarming youth suicide reports. The inquiry by the Victorian Parliament into the effects of television violence on children is examined and the scholarly works of Neil Postman, inter alia, are discussed to establish the overall pattern of positive association between television violence and aggression in children. Furthermore, the contention that many contemporary realistic texts do little to promote hopefulness in the young is supported with the opinions of scholars who are respected in the field of children’s literature. Tolkien was a devout Catholic but, even more importantly, he was able to restate traditional values through his imaginative works of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. This has relevance for Catholic educators who strive to relate Gospel values to popular culture. Christian education must extend imagination beyond morality to help young people to find meaning and purpose in their lives. Through the use of The Hobbit and other books of this kind, children can begin to learn not to fear change, failure or setbacks but to see them as important challenges and opportunities for personal growth. This thesis argues for the likely value of a continuum of this type of learning that begins in early childhood, in order to provide a

Sammanfattning   Den här uppsatsen uppmärksammar filmer och sociala medier som marknadsföringsverktyg inom turismbranschen. Det konkreta syftet med denna uppsats är dels att undersöka hur turister själva marknadsför filmturistiska platser via sociala medier, i denna specifika studie TripAdvisor och Facebook, för filmtrilogin ”The Hobbit” och den filmturism som uppstod från den föregående filmtrilogin ”The Lord of the Rings”. Och dels att undersöka vad turister skriver om på sociala medier gällande den filmturism som bedrivs på turistdestinationen Hobbiton Movie set i Nya Zeeland. De teorier som denna uppsats bygger på är teorier kring ”tourist produced content”. Samt kring filmturism och marknadsföring av denna. De metoder som används för att uppnå syftet är två olika typer av innehållsanalys: en kvalitativ innehållsanalys med hjälp av argumentationsanalys, och en kvantitativ innehållsanalys. Det empiriska materialet består av kommentarer från TripAdvisor och Facebook angående turistdestinationen Hobbiton Movie set. De resultat som framkom där var följande. Först tycker turisterna att det är värt att besöka destinationen ifall man är intresserad av filmerna inom filmtrilogin ”The Hobbit”. Men turisterna anser även att de tar ut ett för högt pris för besöket. Samt tycker vissa turister att destinationen inte är tillgänglig för alla samhällsgrupper, exempelvis inte för personer med funktionsnedsättning. Det konkreta resultatet var följande: det gäller för turistdestinationer, såsom Hobbiton Movie set, att ta till sig turisters kommentarer och liknande för att säkerställa att alla turisters behov uppfylls. Analysen fann att marknadsföring av filmturistiska platser sker inte bara genom traditionell marknadsföring utan också via turisters frivilliga marknadsföring av dessa via sociala medier. Vilket förändrar vem som har makten att marknadsföra turistdestinationer. Den övergripande slutsatsen handlar således om att både filmer och sociala medier marknadsför filminspelningsplatser som kan komma att besökas utifrån att människor sett dessa platser i filmer och kommentarer om dessa platser på sociala medier. Således en marknadsföring av de kulturella landskap som skildras i filmer och som upplevs av turister.

Abstract:
This essay argues that the protagonist of The Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins can be considered to be a female character in a male form. By applying feminist literary criticism this essay map out the traditional gender roles in society along with the traditional gender roles in Middle Earth in order to investigate Bilbo’s female characteristics, the similarities between him and women in patriarchal society as well as the female imagery present in The Hobbit. The results show that Bilbo Baggins’ characteristics such as emotionality, sensitivity and compassion corresponds more to the traditional female gender norms than that of the male gender norms. The results also indicate the similarities between Bilbo’s experiences and that of women in a patriarchal society, such as the attention to being respectable and difficulties working in a male-dominated field.

Abstract:
In the context of recent research in the field of professional musicians and their health care the question of how to prevent typical diseases of musicians is increasingly discussed. This Master´s thesis deals with the relationship between the human body and playing the oboe. It focuses on a presentation about the musculoskeletal system and the corporeal processes during a musical play. This paper moreover answers the question how important the compensation of unilateral movements is and presents options of compensation. The aim of this work is to summarize observations, personal experiences and analysis of professional sources. The outcome of this examination ought to be a beneficial and healthy system of exercises for oboists which is not only oriented on the way of practicing the musical instrument but also on the suitable physical exercises. The conclusion finally recapitulates the most important aspects of health care.

Além disso, a pesquisa contribui para o campo dos estudos da experiência fílmica, relacionando emoção e sentimento às concepções de recepção cinematográfica e espectatorialidade fílmica. Para isso, traçamos um percurso teórico-metodológico nesse campo, abordando seus antecedentes e desdobramentos, propondo uma nova nomenclatura para a recepção e a espectatorialidade. Decepção é entendida em dois estados afetivos distintos: emoção, mais imediata, passageira e não durável; e sentimento, mais duradouro e profundo, que estrutura e define nossa subjetividade humana. Foram utilizados os dados brasileiros da pesquisa The Hobbit Project, compostos por questionários focados na recepção da trilogia. Baseado na adaptação da escala de engajamento participativo e produtivo, proposta por Lopes et al (2011), os respondentes dos questionários foram classificados em tipologias de fãs (Consumidores, Críticos, Produtores e Curadores) Os fãs constituem comunidades interpretativas, compartilhando sentidos e modos de organização, e comunidades emocionais, compartilhando emoções, pautas, interesses, valores, metas, símbolos e códigos afetivos e reforçando ensinamentos e pressuposições comuns. A pesquisa demonstrou que o percurso formativo da decepção parte do engajamento emocional e participativo, passa pelo desenvolvimento das competências culturais, as expectativas e é concluído no desapontamento. A competência Conhecimento da narrativa canônica do universo tolkieniano permeou todo o percurso, transformando-se na decepção Tratamento da narrativa. Como principais resultados, as maiores decepções com a narrativa foram encontradas na avaliação geral dos filmes, no tratamento narrativo da morte de um dos três guerreiros anões, na adaptação deturpada ou descaracterizada de determinados personagens e no romance inter-racial apresentado no filme.
This study aims to find the relation among the emotional and participatory engagements, the cultural competences and the deception of the Brazilian fans of the Tolkien universe in the reception of The Hobbit trilogy in movie theaters. It also aims to identify the marks of deception as a feeling – through spectatorship – or emotion – through reception. In addition to that, it contributes to film experience studies by relating emotion and feeling to the concepts of movies reception and film spectatorship. For that, we build a theoretical and methodological path in the field, and approach its previous and unfolding notions, in order to propose new terms for reception and spectatorship. Here, deception may be understood as two different states of affection: emotion, more immediate, temporary and short-lasting, and feeling, more long-lasting and profound, which structures and defines our human subjectivity. The research used the Brazilian data deriving from The Hobbit Project, comprising questionnaires focused on the reception of the trilogy. The respondents were classified into types of fans (namely Consumers, Critics, Producers and Curators) based on the adaptation scale of productive and participatory engagements proposed by Lopes et al (2011) Fans constitute interpretative communities, in which they share senses and forms of organization, and emotional communities, in which they share emotions, agenda, interests, values, aims, symbols and affective codes, and reinforce common presuppositions and teachings. The results of the study show that the path that builds the deception departs from emotional and participatory engagements, to the development of cultural competences and expectations, and its end is disappointment. The competence of Canon Narrative Knowledge of the Tolkien Universe is present through the whole path, and becomes deception with the Narrative Treatment. One of the main results is the existence of greater deception in the general evaluation of the films, the narrative treatment of one of the three dwarf warriors’ death, the changes of adaptation and characteristics of some characters, and the interracial love story portrayed in the film.

Abstract:
The purpose of this thesis is to develop an automated technique for controlling the animation of computer-generated cars for the application of motorsports, also known as car racing. The basic idea is similar to previous work simulating flocks of birds and schools of fish. This simulation system provides a behavior model for each car and driver in a group of cars that enables them to race on a track while avoiding collisions. The technique is implemented using a commercial software package, called MAYA, utilizing its scripting language and built-in dynamics engine. While not a complete real-world dynamic simulation, the cars exhibit realism in both racing behavior and in visual motion attributes. This system allows the animator to control the number of vehicles, their properties, and their general path using an interactive interface. The automated technique replaces manual animation of each individual car and expedites production for animation or live-action effects film that includes computer-generated racing cars.

Tungsten (W) has become an element of greater concern in recent years. Investigations by the Centers for Disease Control implicated W as a possible link to several cases of childhood acute lymphatic leukemia (ALL) clusters in the western United States. In Fallon NV, 17 cases of ALL were reported from 1997-2001. Previously, it was difficult to attain knowledge about the geochemical behavior of W due to low concentrations and difficulties in detection in natural environments. Modern analytical techniques allow for a greater range of sensitivity, allowing for in depth W analysis. Elucidating information on the factors contributing to the fate and transport of W in low temperature environments will provide insight into how W moves through the environment and provide information to help mitigate W contamination in the future. Three sites were chosen for comparison of W concentration and how that may be linked to local geochemical factors. Fallon NV, Sierra Vista AZ, and Cheyenne Bottoms Refuge KS were chosen based on published literature and personal communications. The objectives for this study were to characterize W concentrations in these three climatologically distinct areas followed by using methods to speciate and semi-quantitatively characterize W phase association within the surficial sediments and using synchrotron X-Ray methods to define W valencies and elemental associations within the sediments. Tungsten occurs in varying concentrations in the study areas, from 17.8 mg/kg to ~25,907 mg/kg. Fallon has the highest average W concentration of the three sites as well as the highest amount of W associated with phases other than the organic matter or residual phase. Speciation of soluble W revealed no polytungstates, however tungstates are present in the samples as well as undefined W species, suggesting there are other forms of W that are readily soluble in water, hence bioavailable. Tungsten has a very heterogeneous distribution in sediments, creating dispersed but highly concentrated clumps of W hotspots. Spot analyses under X-Ray mapping reveal W may co-localize with other metals such as Ti, Co, and Zn.

Abstract:
This thesis presents three higher-mass star forming regions (Mon R1, Mon R2 and NGC 2264) as observed by Herschel, and also the JCMT (SCUBA-2), and the IRAM 30-m telescope, with additional data from the Spitzer and WISE archives. The Herschel observations, using the SPIRE and PACS instruments over a range of 70 m{500 m, were taken as part of the HOBYS Key Programme, and the data were reduced using the HIPE mapmaking environment with sources identified and characterised by the 'get-sources' routine. The Herschel observations cover the peaks of cold dust SEDs, allowing robust estimates of mass and temperature to be made. Comparisons of the Herschel observations of the three regions suggest a picture of star formation in which the densest parts of certain molecular clouds can accrete matter via filaments from the surrounding regions, fuelling far more star formation than occurs in the outer regions. My study of these regions has led to the potential classification of two separate regimes of star formation. The first occurs in filamentary regions (generally observed with a column density of 3 10²¹ cm⁻²-1.5 10²²cm⁻²), and is associated with gravitational accretion. The second occcurs in dense ridges and filamentary hubs (>1.5 10²² cm⁻²), in which intense star formation is fed by material flowing inward, with feedback from newly-formed stars interacting with the infalling material. The identification of these distinct populations is backed up by characterisation of the probability density functions (PDFs) and by determination of local core formation efficiency (CFE), both of which show a regime change at 1.5 10²²cm⁻². Comparisons of source mass, FWHM, and luminosity also indicate a separate population of cores forming in such regions.

Abstract:
This essay investigates the applicability of Joseph Campbell’s notion of the Hero’s Journey from his theoretical work The Hero with a Thousand Faces on J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, or, There and Back Again. This has been done by outlining the essential aspects of Campbell’s theory and then performing a reading and analysis of Tolkien’s work. Furthermore, this essay focuses on the narrative structure proposed by Campbell, but also the heroic character’s development—in this instance, Bilbo Baggins’ development. As such, a brief examination of Campbell’s attitude and use of Freudian psychoanalysis has been performed as well as a presentation of Bilbo Baggins’ character and dual nature before the adventure. As a possible line of argument Tolkien’s knowledge of myth is also briefly expounded on. This essay does not research or make any definitive statements on the universal applicability of Campbell’s theory, but merely finds that Tolkien’s The Hobbit, or, There and Back Again appears to conform well to Campbell’s proposed narrative structure and that the development of Bilbo’s heroic character, or his character arc, is in concurrence with this as well.

This essay demonstrates how Bilbo, the main protagonist of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, is a feminine hero despite being male. The study builds on concepts of traditional gender norms which show men as strong, intelligent beings and overall superior to the weak and emotional women. Also included in the study is Carl Jung’s anima archetype (the hypothesized feminine side of the man) as well as conventional hero-types, comparing Bilbo to three other heroes of Tolkien’s creation (Aragorn, Frodo and Beorn) in order to categorize Bilbo and show what kind of a hero he is. The essay shows that Bilbo, based on his actions and personality, and in accordance with the traditional gender norms, classifies as a feminine hero.
Denna uppsats demonstrerar hur Bilbo, huvudkaraktären i J.R.R. Tolkiens The Hobbit, är en feminin hjälte trots att han är manlig. There is also a comparition between playing this Fantasy with either theremin or Martenot waves because of the similarity of these instruments. The third chapter, based on the author's experience, is focused on the French oboists who worked in Bohemia. La investigación fue descriptiva y cualitativa. El corpus genérico estuvo constituido por la novela The Hobbit de John Ronald Reuel Tolkien (J.R.R. Tolkien) y su traducción al español por Manuel Figueroa. Se utilizan como variables las clases de nombres propios y las estrategias de traducción de Francisco Javier Franco Aixelá. El corpus específico lo conformaron 64 muestras. La data se procesó mediante el software IBM SPSS versión 23. Conclusiones: – Los nombres propios opacos del inglés se debieron traducir cuando no provinieron de terceras culturas, a menos que existiese alguna convención determinada. – Para el lector infantil y juvenil, los nombres propios debieron de ser transparentes. – En la traducción de los nombres propios para personas, animales y lugares, se debió de optar por las diferentes estrategias de sustitución y, en el caso de la conservación, especialmente de la traducción lingüística.

En México los factores principales que en el presente han impedido el éxito en el desarrollo de la producción lechera, es el manejo de la alimentación, reproducción, baja genética de los animales e inadecuados programas sanitarios para el control de enfermedades. Por lo que es necesario introducir nuevas técnicas y sistemas de manejo en la explotación lechera, para obtener una mejor producción (Ortiz et al., 2005). Tomando en cuenta uno de los factores importantes en la producción de la leche bovina como lo es la alimentación; Peyraud y Delagarde (2013) informan que el pastoreo es la fuente de alimentación con nutrientes disponibles más barata aparte de ser un componente fundamental en la dieta de los sistemas lecheros del mundo.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: INTRODUCTION: Immigration, especially to countries with a higher prevalence of overweight and obesity, has been found to exacerbate these conditions in immigrants. This study investigated the change in dietary intake, physical activity and body mass index (BMI) of South African immigrants in Hobart, Australia. OBJECTIVES: The objectives were to determine the change in BMI, the current and usual dietary intakes and perceived dietary changes and the current physical activity levels and perceived changes in physical activity since immigration of South African immigrants residing in the Greater Hobart Area. DESIGN: This study had descriptive, cross-sectional as well as analytical components. SAMPLING: Forty seven participants were recruited by contacting known immigrants, postings in newspapers, contacting immigrant social groups, contacting the Department of Economic Development as well as using the social networking program, “Facebook”. All participants had to be between the ages of 20 and 50 and have lived in Australia for longer than six months, but shorter than five years. Thirty participants completed the study with a mean age of 37.17 years. METHODS: Participants were required to complete a self-administered sociodemographic questionnaire, a 3-day diet record, physical activity questionnaire and quantified food frequency questionnaire (QFFQ). The investigator administered a weight change questionnaire. Anthropometric measurements included weight, height and waist circumference measurements. RESULTS: There was no significant difference between the BMIs of participants preand post-immigration (p=0.06), but the percentage of overweight female participants increased from 24% (n=4) to 29% (n=5) and the percentage of overweight male participants increased from 46% (n=6) to 69% (n=9). The percentage of obese female participants increased from 6% (n=1) to 12% (n=2) post-immigration with the male participants showing no increased prevalence of obesity. Participants appeared aware of their weight classifications with 60% (n=18) reporting that they considered themselves overweight. Mean waist circumference values of male and female participants were classified as action level 1. Forty one percent (n=7) of female participants and 31% (n=4) of male participants had waist circumference values classified as action level 2. Carbohydrate intakes were below the Nutrient Reference Values (NRV) recommendations for 84% (n=25) and 62% (n=19) of participants as indicated by the QFFQ and diet records respectively and the mean carbohydrate intake values of male and female participants (QFFQ and diet records) were below the NRV recommendations as well. Fibre intakes were below the NRV recommendations for 76% (n=23) and 82% (n=25) of participants as indicated by the QFFQ and food records respectively. Saturated fat and sodium intakes were high. Folate, calcium and potassium were consumed in lower than recommended amounts by a large proportion of participants. Sixty seven percent (n=20) of participants reported an increase in physical activity post-immigration and 70% (n=21) of participants anticipated a future increase in physical activity levels. CONCLUSION: The study population experienced an increase in weight. A number of other risk factors for cardiovascular and other chronic diseases were also identified including high waist circumference values, high saturated fat and sodium intakes and low fibre, folate, calcium and potassium intakes. Interventions aimed at decreasing the risk of South African immigrants in Hobart becoming overweight/obese and developing chronic diseases should probably be aimed at lower saturated and total fat intake, higher carbohydrate and fibre intake and plenty of dietary variation and should further encourage physical activity, but this needs to be confirmed by larger prospective studies.

STEEKPROEFTREKKING: Respondente is gewerf deur alle bekende immigrante te kontak, koerant boodskappe te plaas, sosiale groepe vir immigrante te kontak, die Department van Ekonomiese Ontwikkeling te kontak asook deur die sosiale netwerk program, “Facebook”, te gebruik. Alle respondente moes tussen die ouderdomme van 20 en 50 wees en moes langer as ses maande, maar korter as vyf jaar in Australië woon. METODES: Respondente het ‘n sosio-demografiese vraelys asook ‘n drie dag voedselrekord, ‘n voedselfrekwensie vraelys en ‘n fisiese aktiwiteit vraelys voltooi. Die navorser het ‘n gewigsverandering vraelys afgeneem. Antropometriese metings het gewig, lengte en middelomtrek ingesluit. RESULTATE: Daar was nie ‘n betekenisvolle verskil tussen die LMI waardes van respondente voor en na immigrasie nie (p=0.06), maar die persentasie oorgewig vroulike respondente het toegeneem van 24% (n=4) na 29% (n=5) en die persentasie oorgewig manlike respondente het toegeneem van 46% (n=6) na 69% (n=9). Die persentasie vetsugtige vroulike respondente het toegeneem van 6% (n=1) na 12% (n=2) na immigrasie en die manlike respondente het geen toename in vetsugtigheid getoon nie. Dit het voorgekom asof respondente bewus was van hulle gewigsklassifikasies met 60% (n=18) wat gerapporteer het dat hulle hulself as oorgewig beskou. Die gemiddelde middelomtrek waardes van die manlike en vroulike respondente was geklassifiseer as aksie vlak 1. Een en veertig persent (n=7) van die vroulike respondente en 31% (n=4) van die manlike respondente het middelomtrek waardes getoon wat as aksie vlak 2 geklassifiseer was. Koolhidraat inname was laer as the nutrient verwysingswaardes vir 84% (n=25) en 62% (n=19) van die respondente soos aangedui deur die voedselfrekwensie lys en 3-dag voedselrekord. Vesel inname was laer as the nutrient verwysingswaardes vir 76% (n=23) en 82% (n=25) van die respondente soos aangedui deur die voedselfrekwensie lys en 3-dag voedselrekord. Die gemiddelde waardes vir koolhidraat en vesel inname vir manlike en vroulike respondente (voedselfrekwensie lys en 3-dag voedselrekord) was laer as die nutrient verwysingswaardes. Versadigde vet en natrium innames was hoog. Folaat, kalsium en kalium innames van ‘n groot proporsie respondente was laer as die aanbevelings. Sewe en sestig persent (n=20) van die respondente het gerapporteer dat hulle fisiese aktiwiteitsvlakke toegeneem het na immigrasie en 70% (n=21) van die respondente het verwag dat hulle fisiese aktiwiteitsvlakke sou verhoog. AANBEVELINGS: Die studie populase het ‘n toename in gewig en LMI ondervind. ‘n Aantal verdere risikofaktore vir kroniese en kardiovaskulêre siektes was geïdentifiseer, byvoorbeeld hoë middelomtrek waardes, hoë versadigde vet en natrium innames en lae vesel, folaat, kalsium en kalium innames. Programme wat fokus op die voorkoming van oorgewig/vetsug in Suid-Afrikaanse immigrante in Hobart, Australië moet moontlik gemik wees op laer totale en versadigde vet inname, hoër vesel en koolhidraat inname asook variasie in diet en fisiese aktiwiteit moet ook verder aangemoedig word. Sodanige aanbevelings moet egter bevestig word deur groter prospektiewe studies.

Abstract:
The aim of this study is to find out more about how eukaryotic transposons work. Transposons are widespread genetic elements that can autonomously change their position within a genome. Their translocation is mediated by the transposase enzyme, encoded by the transposon itself. Transposition is often associated with mutations and recombination in the host and may promote evolutionary change. Most knowledge of the principles and molecular mechanisms has so far come from prokaryotic transposons. Eukaryotic transposons have mostly been studied on the level of population dynamics. In this thesis, I studied two eukaryotic transposons on a molecular level, hobo and Himarl are members of very widespread transposon families, hAT and mariner-like elements, respectively. Their interest lies mainly in the preposition that the order of catalytic steps is the opposite of all prokaryotic transposons studied so far. I developed several protocols for the purification of hobo transposase. These preparations were assayed by several methods in vitro. DNA hairpin structures, which had been postulated to arise in the flanking DNA upon hobo excision, were assayed for with a newly developed very sensitive method, frayed duplex PCR. Here, and in reconstructed in vivo transposition systems, no specific transpositional activity, apart from a high toxicity for the host cells, was detected. This suggests a requirement for as yet unidentified host factors. For Himarl, I improved the published transposase purification protocol and optimised the in vitro reaction conditions, achieving a c. 10-fold increase in specific activity. Specific transposase-DNA binding is shown, representing the earliest intermediates in transposition. Later complexes studied are target capture and strand transfer complexes, which are the final stage of the transposition reaction. Hydroxyradical footprinting and band shift assays suggest that Himarl transposase binds a single DNA end as multimers while occupying only a single DNA binding site. Himarl can bind and commit to target DNA before as well as after excision from the donor. Target commitment is only clearly visible under conditions of macromolecular crowding, and insertions were found to be more efficient if the target is supercoiled. These are both conditions closely resembling the situation in the eukaryotic nucleus.

Abstract:
Thesis about oboe section of the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra introducing first prosopographical summary of oboists from 1926 to 2014, who were employed in the orchestra or were in long term assistance. A biographical inventory of oboists and their solo recording catalogues are fundamental prerequisites for deeper reasearch for developement of interpretative forms. The first three chapters describe resources, sources and historical and contemporary forms of radio orchestra. Chapter four illustrates circumstances of the formation of Prague Chamber Orchestra. The last chapter consists of resumes of individual oboists, including their detailed education and artistic career. Indispensable components of this thesis are charts of recordings for Czech Radio. The author analyzes the biographical inventory of oboists in radio orchestra and considers the role of the oboe section and it's position in interpretation of solo compositions. The apendix includes sources and other materials, photos and documents from the radio archives.

The aim of the project is to examine design qualities and elements relevant to residential development in the inner city and determine how they should be addressed in the current planning system in Hobart. The structure of the project is outlined in the following diagram. This illustrates the various stages of the project and what they consisted of. The stages are The Problem, Background, Analysis, Conclusions, and Implementation. The Analysis stage was divided info two distinct paths. The intention for this was to form an information base that consisted of current theory within Australia and the specific local case studies. The Context Of The Problem and Case Study Developments Chapters are both specific to the local context of Hobart, elaborating on the problem and examining local examples, specifically two developments. Whereas the Design Elements Relevant To Inner City Housing Chapter covers the current best practice residential design guides in Australia. The Conclusions and Implementation stages return to a single focus, drawing on the two paths to form the Outcomes and then the Recommendations Chapters.

Abstract:
Je mnoho dětí, které nečtou a ani číst nechtějí. Dramatická výchova a literatura mají k sobě blízko. Dramatická výchova může z literatury čerpat a k literatuře nás přivést. Já se ve své práci snažím tuto cestu naplnit. Přivést děti pomocí dramatické výchovy k literatuře. Vybrala jsem si jednu konkrétní knihu, protože si myslím, že je pro děti zajímavá a lze s ní velice hezky pracovat. Sám autor totiž tuto knihu napsal tak, že přímo vybízí k hlasitému předčítání nebo vypravování před širokým dětským (a ze svých zkušeností i ze zkušeností z okolí vím, že nejen dětským) publikem. Dramatická výchova je pro mnohé učitelky a učitele stále nové slovo se kterým si neví rady. Často netuší co znamená a pokud vědí, neumí si představit, jak zařadit dramatickou výchovu do vyučování. Ve své práci jsem provedla i výzkum, kterým jsem si tato svá tvrzení dokázala. Právě s myšlenkami na učitele z praxe, kteří se s dramatickou výchovou ještě nesetkala jsem tento projekt zpracovala. Abych měla jistotu, že projekt funguje a lze ho při vyučování využít, vyzkoušela jsem ho na své třídě. Abstract:
This study investigates the regulation of the taxi industry in Hobart. The economic rationale behind the present control of the industry is questioned. The amendments to the Tasmanian Traffic Amendment (Public Vehicles) Act 1983 have provided a different brand of taxi industry regulation compared to those in other areas of Australia. The study reviews the factors which led to the 1983 Traffic Amendment Act reforms and concludes that on economic grounds further changes are justified. Chapter 1 outlines the programme of investigation. Chapter 2 presents a background on factors which have led to the existing system of regulation and identifies problems with the existing system. Chapter 3 considers whether regulation is required and the effects of controlling both fares and the number of taxis. Chapter 4 describes the existing tariff structure and proposes a peak load pricing solution for the demand conditions found in Hobart. Chapter 5 proposes new directions for the industry based on the findings of earlier chapters.
