Abstract:

Abstract:
The scientific documentation looms, together with access to information and management of their tools is fundamental in the training and development of professionals that enable scientific and technological progress. Particularly in the health sciences and medicine precisely this development is one of the most remarkable, considering the medical documentation the most complex of all. The highly computerized technological equipment and diagnostic techniques applied in the development of this discipline makes the accumulation of this information and run forward at high speed, requiring an information technology supports this development. Another reason is that doctors do not have the time to search, access, and read as much information circulating, not to have the resources and skills to track, making the documentary and the protagonists informationists direct access and selection information. This is why the demands and requirements of the Librarian Specialized Health Medicine area must be consistent with the requirements and demands of the discipline. It examines how the documentary preparation have when entering the workforce specialized in medicine and the difficulties faced when it comes to search, select and retrieve this type of information, to provide its users an accurate document, according to the professional requirements requested. Mastering English, managing databases, medical vocabulary, knowledge of anatomy, and highly specific subject of the documentary require preparation and specialized academic training. Whereas to enter the labor market does not have these essential tools for good performance, higher education should be largely to provide an academic level commensurate with the needs of librarians.

Abstract:
In Austria, there are many written documents in arabic script. The reason that they are not known properly is to be found in the lack of resources (personal and financial), ignorance and disinterest. The aim of this work is to find out how to locate these documents systematically and how to make them accessible. For this one has to ask: "Who could have come into contact with people who wrote in Arabic script?" and "Where could the documents and items have ended up?" After archives and museums one has to look especially at monastery libraries and generally collecting libraries (in opposition to public libraries). Flukes and single occurrences can not be excluded. The best is to make the results accessible in a relational SQL database with the trancription system of the Deutsche Morgenländische Gesellschaft.

Abstract:
In recent years there has been a rapid transition to subscription of electronic resources and significant percentages of library budgets are allocated to electronic resources. Identifying and analyzing the benefits and costs of this new trend is therefore relevant. In this study we have considered the experiences of METU Library in utilizing electronic resources and provided a cost-benefit analysis of electronic resources based on the cost and usage statistics obtained from this library. The study examines the ScienceDirect, EbscoHost and Web of Science databases available within the METU electronic resources collection. In addition to the subscription cost statistics, non-subscription cost information obtained through interviews and surveys have been used in our analysis. Usage statistics of electronic information sources have been collected in accordance with the COUNTER standards and analyzed using various methods. The high usage of electronic resources in METU reduces the unit cost of databases. According to the 2004 data, the cost per usage for EbscoHost and Web of Science is $0.3 $0.2 respectively. These figures place METU below the average unit cost per use of all Anatolian University Libraries Consortium (ANKOS) members. Yet due to high subscription cost, the unit cost per use of ScienceDirect is relatively higher ($2.3), even though the database is used very heavily at METU. This figure is above the average unit cost per use of all ANKOS members for the ScienceDirect database. Statistics show that a small number of “core” journals satisfy significant amount of use while the majority of journals are used rather infrequently. The results obtained from this study show that electronic resources cost, over the years, considerable amount of money for METU and their usage has also increased gradually. In general, it can be concluded that electronic resources are heavily utilized in METU in terms of overall usage. In order to maximize the benefits of electronic resources it is necessary to analyze cost and usage statistics in detail at both institutional and consortial levels, using various techniques. The results obtained from such studies can be used as guidelines for the development of collections of electronic resources, consortial agreements and user education programs.

Abstract:
The thesis analyzes the role taken by both scientific journals and bibliographic information products, in the new relations between Spain and Latin American. The combination of technological development with the promotion of cultural and scientific relations in the Iberoamerican Community of Nations, form a virtual space, which defines the framework of the study. The research methodology is based on both quantitative and qualitative techniques. Despite the growing importance of scientific and academic relations, there is considerable room for improvement to seek greater inter-Iberoamerican scientific community. Internet facilitates scientific cooperation and online higher education in their own language. The publication of scientific journals is a communication channel which can be enhanced scientific exchange further by the international contribution of Hispanic, Iberian and Latin American Studies. Documentary resources focused on the national and regional scientific publications, make a wide range of products. Iberoamerican coverage, encompassing the sources of Spain, Portugal and Latin America, is emerging in the design of new sources of scientific documentation, enhanced by the facilities for dissemination via Internet. In the production of different resources from literature in Spanish language, the thesis highlights the work of the UNAM in Mexico (especially CLASE and PERIODICA databases) and the CSIC in Spain (ISOC, ICYT and IME databases). It also analyzes the system Latindex, Virtual Health Library, SciELO, Redalyc and Dialnet. These products are compared, concluding that the major databases are complementary and therefore there are possibilities for cooperation. Scientific information systems are essential to build the target of a Iberoamerican Area of Knowledge.

Abstract:
The terms disinformation and fake news are relatively contemporary. BRAPCI is a base with productions focused on Information Science. Excerpts from academic productions, comprised in the period of records in the database from 2000 to 2019, show that the authors have been addressing at least one of the terms. Therefore, there would already be something consolidated: definition, mediation, contingency, etc. On the other hand, these relationships can influence the career of the future Information Manager graduated from UFPE. However, the aim is to: identify the documents (productions) in the database, through a direct search expression using the terms: (disinformation) and (fake news); identify the productions in BRAPCI; find definitions of terms; check the frequency of use of terms; and, present them with quotations, tables, charts and graphs. Therefore, the methodology consisted of exploratory bibliographical research supported by bibliometric inferences. Therefore, promote academic and professional debate on the eventual use of such terms. Some conclusions were reached: 1. the term fake news was recovered from the year 2017; 2. the terms take extraordinary forms and dimensions, conditioned to the actions: production, communication and social flow of information. ‘Use’ is the only less technological part, as it largely stems from human cognition. Finally, it is understood that the Information Manager must interact with the appropriate Information Competence.

Abstract:
Digital information and economic activity: gaps and progress in Spain during the period 2007-2010 In this dissertation we evaluate some of the progresses and gaps that can be observed in the supply and delivery of digital information for economic activity in Spain during the period 2007-2010 from four different viewpoints. These four study areas are: - the Spanish e-Administration as an energizing factor of all national economic sectors, and the digital information market in particular; - the contribution made by the Spanish Chambers of Commerce in digital information for economic activity; - changes, gaps and progresses made in the provision of digital information to the agricultural sector; - the presence of subjects related to the information on economic activity in the curricula aimed to train information professionals at the Spanish universities. To put in context the research work, we have also analyzed the development and current status of each of the four study areas. The dissertation highlights the importance the Spanish Public Administration has had in the past, and still has, in the development of the electronic information industry in Spain. Contributions made by private initiatives are also discussed. Furthermore, in the four study areas we observe dynamics which take place at very different speeds. This depends on the contribution of the actor or group of actors involved in each case. Particularly notable was the low presence of information on economic activity in the curricula aimed to train information professionals in Spanish universities.

Abstract:
Public library systems in India are not so effective due to lack of efficient resource sharing and networking to achieve optimum utility of resources as well as to provide need based services. The present library system can be improved by application of ICT and enabling participation. A Kerala Public Library Network (KPLNET), and use of an integrated library automation package in all public libraries can achieve this. The web portal of the Public Library Network maintained by Kerala State Library Council the controlling organization can extend the use of resources and accessibility of the system transcending time and space. Sharing of resources will be much easier through KPLNET. Public can easily access the services through this system for borrowing books, searching of catalogue, e-reading etc. KPLNET can provide the public easy access to the data online. Through multi user licences to acquired content, and introducing resource-sharing programmes the public libraries can reduce their expenses and boost the services. The individual village libraries can develop content on local aspects, which can be pooled by KPLNET. The major objective of the KPLNET will be to unite all public libraries in the State under a single umbrella. Kerala State Library Council (KSLC) controlling more than 7000 public libraries will be the implementing agency for KPNNET. KSLC can perform more effectively once it implements the proposed KPLN. This project suggests e-governance of public libraries under KSLC with a library network using a web enabled system that act as an interactive public interface to enable the public for participation in governance of libraries and also for effective utilization of the library resources.

Abstract:
The high positions are the political base of the public administration in our country. The citizen knows them fundamentally, through the means, but this image provides a fragmented vision. The websites of the administration offer complete information about them and their competencies, but as a snapshot, of the corresponding legislature. So where is the map of the political power of an administration throughout its history? Nowhere. The dispersion of this information, so significant, and the lack of understanding may be acting to the detriment of the transparency of governments. The interest of the citizens in the politics and in the actions of the politicians supposes a social change in which the maximum is the transparency and the accessibility to the information of public character in a clear and organized form. The project proposes to build an automated methodology and a prototype of a graph based on this information from unstructured sources that is useful for citizenship and administration in order to relate and organize the information of the Generalitat Valenciana. The model with the data that support it will be released for later reuse and adaptation to other administrations.

Abstract:
Public procurement in Spain accounts for about 20% of the country's Gross Domestic Product. The large amounts of money that are moving in this area and the growing social concern about knowing what the public money is invested forces administrations to adopt measures on transparency and openness of public data. It is in this profile, in which this work is framed, on the one hand, does the public know how transparent the public administration is, and on the other hand, the administration knows what the optimal characteristics for each contract? The obstacles to comparing this type of information are based on the lack of details of the contracting portals, the different categorizations, the normative plurality and, in short, the difficulty of access to information. The information of the tenders is mostly published in the different portals of contracting of the Autonomous Communities, in addition to the national portal of public sector contracts. Even so, there remains a great difficulty of access and understanding. These evidences demonstrate that the development of this project will be relevant for the target audience. In a bid for the transparency of public administrations, the re-use of bidding data and public sector contracts and the improvement of access to information by citizens, proposes the creation of a technological tool capable of making comparisons between contracts and find the existing relationships. An advance of this project was presented to "Challenges Contribute 2017: The value of the data for the Administration" being selected as one of the ten finalists in Phase I of the 45 projects presented. Phase II of the Challenge will be held in the month of October of this same year.

Pinto, Nelson Miguel Costa. "Database-Based IP Network Routing." Master's thesis, 2018. http://hdl.handle.net/10362/55169.

Full text
Abstract:
The Software-Defined Networking (SDN) approach has the goal of simplifying network management. SDN uses a logically centralized approach to enable simpler network programmability and simplify the network architecture. SDN is in general associated with the OpenFlow protocol, which standardizes communication between a controller and network devices. Alternatively, a database approach could be used to tackle data exchange between controller and network devices. This solution requires the installation of a database server inside each switch, and replicas of those local switches databases, in the controller. The database approach offers several potential advantages over OpenFlow such as higher level of abstraction, flexibility and the use of mature implementations of standardised database protocols to propagate information events and commands. The purpose of this work is to apply a Database-Based Control Plane (DBCP) for SDN networks on a wide area environment. The objective is to implement a replacement of the control plane of a wide area network, currently achieved using a link-state protocol such as OSPF or IS-IS, by an SDN approach based on similar techniques as the ones used in [4]. We conducted an experiment, which we called IP-DBCP, that consisted of the definition of data models and the construction of an SDN network with database replication as the means of communication between one controller and multiple switches. To this end, a switch was developed, using OpenSwitch software as a logical hardware layer, that is capable of executing a MySQL database management system, load it with its characteristics and collect data related to its network neighbourhood. A controller was also developed that executes a MySQL database management system with the replicated databases of all switches. The controller uses those replicated databases to construct routing rules, using a shortest-path algorithm. Ultimately we tested the correct functioning of the solution and evaluated the convergence time by performing network state changes and compared the results with the ones found in traditional link state protocols.

Neves, Nuno Miguel Mendonça Correia das. "Database Replication applied to Network Management." Master's thesis, 2018. http://hdl.handle.net/10362/61550.

Full text
Abstract:
Software Defined Networking (SDN) is a recent approach used to manage networks. Most of the time it is paired with OpenFlow, a low-level communication protocol used by controlling and switching devices to communicate. Since it is low-level, it does not grant the possibility to explore all the switching functionalities, especially as they get extended with more and more features. It is therefore required to find alternative ways of coordinating controlling and switching devices without resorting to low-level protocols to be able to access those functionalities. One of the possible approaches, which was recently implemented in a data center, uses databases and its respective replication to store and exchange information between the devices. Applying the same approach to manage wide area networks would provide a more flexible way to control them. The goal of this work consists of improving an existing prototype that simulates a small network. It was built originally using a SQL database and an asynchronous external replication software. We replace them with a NoSQL database that natively supports replication, which enables us to remove unnecessary software from the prototype while taking advantage of the database features. Some of the features, the more notable being non-uniform replication with the help of CRDTs, are used to improve network monitoring, which is a recent addition to the prototype. Network monitoring is a highly important component of network management that facilitates decision making processes. We evaluate the new version of the prototype by comparing with directly with the old version. We collect the convergence time of the network after an event on a device triggers a modification in its state to help with the comparison. By splinting the convergence time into a sum of smaller actions, we take conclusions regarding different moments of the convergence process.
