Abstract:
This research focus on the relationship the psychoanalysis establishes with the existing psychoanalytical theories in order to deal with the events of clinical practice. Based on the principle that a psychoanalytical theory stems from the personal analysis of both its creator ant its reader, it is not possible to classify such theories neither under the classical fields of science, nor of hermeneutics. This specifity interferes in the transmission of these theories because it passes through transferences and counter-transferences that the psychoanalyst establishes with his patients, his colleagues, and with the theories themselves. This dissertation is composed of two essays. The first broaches the history of the psychoanalytical movement and the changes observed in psychoanalytical institutions bringing them closer to the roots and more daring aspects of psychoanalytical theory. Some concepts are essential to this essay: transference, the resistance it evokes, and the clinical identity of the psychoanalyst, which results from working with the former two. The second essay is about the fabric of psychoanalytical theory itself and how it is built from metaphors that never quite fully encompass the phenomena of the unconscious. The relationship between theory and practice, both non-dissociable in psychoanalysis, is also present in this text in the form of examples of how the psychoanalyst thinks when theorizing of during clinical practice.

MOLARO, AURELIO. "'Ja, Geistigkeit Ist (Hier) Alles!': Dialettica dell'umano ed epistemologia tra Sigmund Freud e Ludwig Binswanger." Doctoral thesis, Università degli Studi di Milano, 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/10281/239839.

Abstract:
“Ja, Gestigkeit ist (hier) alles!” – “Yes, (here) the spirit is everything!” - is the fleeting and surprising joke that in September 1927 Sigmund Freud addressed to Binswanger when, in the face of a substantial failure of the analytical treatment of a common patient, he had to agree on the need to think of the action of a "spiritual" component (in the sense of a possible transcendental subjectivity) in the dynamics of psychoanalytic insight. In the background of this observation, this contribution aims to attempt, through the use of the philosophical-psychological category of Geistigkeit (and Geist in general), to be a sort of "dialectical mediation" between classical psychoanalysis (Freud) and psychiatric phenomenology (Binswanger), whose resolution – far from being considered complete – seems to find in Jung and his analytical psychology a privileged term of reference.

Abstract:
In September 1927, Sigmund Freud tells Binswanger “Ja, Geistigkeit ist (hier) alles!” after realising the failure of their treatmet on their patient. With this sentence Freud seems to recognize the need to design a “spiritual” component (a kind of transcendental subjectivity) in the dynamics of psychoanalytic insight. Based on this observation, our work is a study of the historical and epistemological relations between classical Psychoanalysis and Psychiatric Phenomenology (Daseinsanalyse). The analysis focuses mainly on their foundational areas, the respective visions of man and in particular of mental illness. The thesis is divided into two parts and includes the first complete Italian translation of the Freud and Binswanger correspondence. The first chapter is about an historical and critical analysis of the epistemological foundations of classical Psychoanalysis (psychical apparatus, naturalist determinism of instinct/drive theory, the dreams theory and the relationship between art and sexuality). The aim of the chapter is to demonstrate the substantial biologism or naturalism of classical Psychoanalysis. The second chapter is about an analysis of Binswangerian psychiatric epistemology in his relationship with the Freudian thought: after an introduction dedicated to the foundational aspects of Daseinsanalyse, one can identify the point of maximum contrast in the opposition between Freudian “homo natura” and Binswangerian “homo exsistentia”. Then there is some consideration relating to the inability of an “anthropological refoundation” of classical Psychoanalysis. The third chapter looks for a possible “mediation” between Psychoanalysis and Daseinanalyse based on the idea of Geistigkeit (“the Spirit”, “the Spiritual”). This chapter is the most original part of the whole thesis. Starting from the Freudian problem of consciousness the chapter comes to an epistemological critique (based on the philosophical category of “dualism”) of classical Psychoanalysis is that the psychiatric Phenomenology. The attempt to mediate between Psychoanalysis and Daseinanalyse develops from the idea of Geistigkeit and Geist: the mediation seems, however, destined to fail because of the impossibility in changing the theoretical basis of the two approaches. With regards to this, Jung and his assumption of the complementary opposites Geist-Trieb pair could be a possible and effective alternative way. The second part of the thesis (chapter four) consists of a detailed analysis of the Freud and Binswanger correspondence. From this it appears that the failure of the reconciliation of the two theories is replaced by a strong equilibrium in real life: the theme of death, family and personal lives of emerging in the correspondence show that existence and friendship are capable of overcoming the theoretical difference.

Lindsay, Stuart L. "Reading Chernobyl : psychoanalysis, deconstruction, literature." Thesis, University of Stirling, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/1893/21790.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis explores the psychological trauma of the survivors of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, which occurred on April 26, 1986. I argue for the emergence from the disaster of three Chernobyl traumas, each of which will be analysed individually – one per chapter. In reading these three traumas of Chernobyl, the thesis draws upon and situates itself at the interface between two primary theoretical perspectives: Freudian psychoanalysis and the deconstructive approach of Jacques Derrida. The first Chernobyl trauma is engendered by the panicked local response to the consequences of the explosion at Chernobyl Reactor Four by the power plant’s staff, the fire fighters whose job it was to extinguish the initial blaze caused by the blast, the inhabitants of nearby towns and villages, and the soldiers involved in the region’s evacuation and radiation decontamination. Most of these people died from radiation poisoning in the days, weeks, months or years after the disaster’s occurrence. The first chapter explores the usefulness and limits of Freudian psychoanalytic readings of local survivors’ testimonies of the disaster, examining in relation to the Chernobyl event Freud’s practice of locating the authentic primal scene or originary traumatic witnessing experience in his subjects’ pasts, as exemplified by his Wolf Man analysis, detailed in his psychoanalytic study ‘On the History of an Infantile Neurosis’ (1918). The testimonies read through this Freudian psychoanalytic lens are constituted by Igor Kostin’s personal account of the disaster’s aftermath, detailed in his book Chernobyl: Confessions of a Reporter (2006), and by Svetlana Alexievich’s interviews with Chernobyl disaster survivors in her book Voices from Chernobyl: The Oral History of a Nuclear Disaster (2006). The second chapter argues that Freudian psychoanalysis only provides a provisional, ultimately fictional origin of Chernobyl trauma. Situating itself in relation to trauma studies, this thesis, progressing from its first to its second chapter, charts the geographical and temporal shift between these first and second traumas, from trauma-as-sudden-event to trauma-as-gradual-process. In the weeks following the initial Chernobyl explosion, which released into the atmosphere a radioactive cloud that blew in a north-westerly direction across Northern Ukraine, Belarus, Latvia, Estonia, Finland and Sweden, symptoms of radiation poisoning slowly emerged in the populations of the abovementioned countries. To analyse the psychological impact of confronting this gradual, international unfolding of trauma – the second trauma of Chernobyl – the second chapter of this thesis explores the critique of the global attempt to archivise, elegise and ultimately understand the Chernobyl disaster in Mario Petrucci’s elegies, compiled in his poetry collection Heavy Water: A Poem for Chernobyl (2006), the horror film Chernobyl Diaries (2012, dir. Bradley Parker), and Adam Roberts’ Science Fiction novel, Yellow Blue Tibia (2009). Analysing the deconstructive approach of Jacques Derrida in these texts – his notions of archive fever, impossible mourning and ethical mourning – this chapter argues that the attempt to interiorise, memorialise and mourn the survivors of the Chernobyl disaster is narcissistic, hubristic and violent in the extreme. It then proposes that Derrida’s notion of ethical mourning, outlined most clearly in his lecture ‘Mnemosyne’ (1984), enables us to situate our emotional sympathy for survivors – who, following Derrida’s lecture, are maintained as permanently exterior and inaccessible to us – in our very inability or failure to comprehend or locate the origin of their Chernobyl traumas. The third and final chapter analyses the third trauma of Chernobyl: the psychological and physiological effects of the disaster on second-generation inhabitants living near the Exclusion Zone erected around the evacuated, cordoned-off and still-radioactive Chernobyl region. These second-generation experiences of living near a sealed-away source of intense radiation are reconstructed in literature and videogaming: in Darragh McKeon’s novel All That Is Solid Melts Into Air (2014), Hamid Ismailov’s novel The Dead Lake (2014) and the videogame S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl (2007), developed by the company GSC Game World. The analysis of these texts is informed by Nicolas Abraham and Maria Torok’s psychoanalytic theory of the intergenerational phantom: the muteness of a generation’s history which returns to haunt the succeeding generations. This chapter will explore the psychological effects upon second-generation Chernobyl survivors, which result from these survivors’ incorporation or unconscious interiorisation of their parents’ psychologically repressed traumatic Chernobyl experiences, by analysing reconstructions of this process in the abovementioned texts. These parental experiences, echoing the Exclusion Zone as a denied physical space, have been interred in inaccessible psychic crypts. By way of conclusion, the thesis then offers an alternative theory of reading survivors’ Chernobyl trauma. Survivors’ restaging of their Chernobyl witnessing experiences as jokes enables them to cathartically, temporarily abreact their trauma through the laughter that these jokes engender.

Borossa, J. "The role of the case history in the transmission of psychoanalytic knowledge." Thesis, University of Cambridge, 1995. http://ethos.bl.uk/OrderDetails.do?uin=uk.bl.ethos.596783.

Abstract:
This dissertation constitutes a historical and a theoretical exploration of the issues of power and authorship surrounding clinical writing in psychoanalysis. In the Introduction, the case history is shown to have a key, albeit paradoxical, status in psychoanalysis. It is simultaneously called to function as a narrative representation of the private interaction between patient and analyst and as a regulator of psychoanalysis as a discipline and an institution. A genealogy of psychoanalysis as a body of knowledge, related to the concept of transference and focusing on the figure of Freud is introduced, and the question of the politics of institutional transmission is raised. In Chapter One, the formation of psychoanalysis as a discipline is examined, beginning with the shift in the representation of the hysteric between the work of Charcot and others and Breuer and Freud's Studies on Hysteria. The collaborative nature of the interaction between patient and psychoanalyst is investigated. The development of formal structures regulating the professional training and identity of analysts is linked to the failure of the ideal of self-analysis. Freud's psychoanalytic case histories are discussed as an illustration of the problem of mastery and discipleship in psychoanalysis. In Chapter Two, the instability of the professional identity of the analyst is explored through the example of British psychoanalysts, particularly those of the Independent Group. Their emergence as a group in the wake of the "Controversial Discussions" is examined. With reference to the precedent of Sandor Ferenczi, their particular technical stance is shown to give rise to a distinct style of clinical writing which seems to erode the boundary between the roles of patient and analyst. Interviews with key British analysts are discussed, as well as published case histories. The work of Masud Khan, in particular, is examined since both his practice and writing are deemed to have been transgressive of psychoanalysis as an institution.

Abstract:
This essay provides an analysis of the novel When Nietzsche Wept written by Irvin D. Yalom. The novel takes place during the late eighteen hundred century in Vienna and throughout this essay I explore how Yalom has created a setting, where he has placed some of most prominent philosophers of this time in his fictional world in order to educate the reader about the birth of psychoanalysis and give an alternative version to how it emerged. I argue that Yalom manages to implement different original theories in connection to psychoanalysis to show how the ideas circulating at that point in history contributed to the development of psychoanalysis. The essay compares the original theories of Freud, Breuer and Nietzsche to those brought forward by the characters and illustrates the similarities in order to support Yalom´s alternative version. In conclusion, this essay demonstrates how Yalom has created an alternative version of the development of psychoanalysis by blending original theories with fictive events in order to show how psychoanalysis was a zeitgeist of its time and had more than one founding father.

Abstract:
Produce a complex historical report, heterodox and heterogeneous from psychoanalysis meanders in Curitiba, by analyzing documents, acquired information from newspapers and performing interviews, are the main goal of this thesis. This is an unprecedented proposal aiming to minimize the significative lack of researches in this area about Curitiba as well as to contribute to the theoretical construction work regarding the way how the psychoanalysis is thought and practiced in Brazil. Therefore, it was opted to divide the work in three chapters. In the first chapter, it is detailed the used methodological, theoretical ethical procedures. The second chapter proposes a reflection about the three main moments of psychoanalysis\' institutionalization process, in which was verified that Freud endow, consciously or unconsciously, the classic psychoanalytical historiography with the ideas from the splendid isolation and resistance to psychoanalysis. In the third chapter, divided in two principal parts, it is related histories of the psychoanalysis in Curitiba. Some of these narratives are permeated by parts of the history of the city. As the background of these histories are two modernization processes of Curitiba. The first part presents some of processes that give origin to institutionalization of psychoanalysis in the city, contemplating since mid 1960s to 1975, year that represents the arriving of the lacanian movement in the city. The present work made possible a more clear mapping of the transit of psychoanalysis by the city of Curitiba and the option of using the psychoanalysis culture and not only the institutionalized psychoanalysis as a parameter for research allowed the knowledge of how in curitibian society, especially in a so-called intellectual circles, the growth of psychoanalytic culture helped to shape, little by little, a cultural ground and a favorable tradition for the institutionalization of psychoanalysis, especially from mid 1970s, the moment when it occurs the expansion of psychoanalysis in the city

Abstract:
This work aims to investigate the existence and practice of a non-written rule of proscription of male homosexual candidates to the psychoanalytic training offered by societies affiliated to the International Psychoanalytic Association (IPA) in the countries it is present. A historical research was performed through procedural codes, articles, journals and testimonies that signalized to an injunction to reject these candidates and which also exposed the reasons behind it. The existence of a historical practice of proscription was discovered, based on a psychoanalytic discourse about male homosexuality that since Freud until the contemporary psychoanalysts became progressively pathologizing. Finally, the model of the institutionalization was investigated, being regarded as determining both the pathologizing discourses about male homosexuality and the exclusion of homosexuals from psychoanalytic training

Firstly, this work aims to trace the course of the french psychoanalyst Françoise Dolto from her childhood, through crucial historic episodes of the 20th Century and finally to mention her significant contributions to the fields of psychoanalytical theory, the early child treatment and in the dissemination os the psychoanalysys in France and throughout the world. In a second moment it intends to situate her most significant theoretical construct – the unconscious body image – in regard to the complex history of the psychoanalytical discipline, as conceived by Renato Mezan in O tronco e os ramos. The main argument is that Françoise Dolto not only played a main role in the evolution of psychoanalysys on the 20th century, but must also be considered before the vast group of authors in contemporary psychoanalysis

Abstract:
The thesis is an attempt to reconcile contradictions and devise historical meaning from a problematic text. The book is Wilhelm Reich's Character Analysis, first published in 1933. This influential psychoanalytic work embodies both a radical social theory and disturbing authoritarian attitudes. The thesis uses a variety of methodologies, in particular Roland Barthes' techniques for ascribing historical meaning to certain formal qualities of writing. The thesis proceeds from a summary of methodological studies in intellectual history and criticism, including those of I. A. Richards, R. G. Collingwood, and Dominick LaCapra, as well as Barthes, to a description of Character Analysis and its various historical contexts - biographical, social, and intellectual. The thesis relies on the authoritative biography of Reich, by Myron Scharaf, on autobiographical accounts by Reich's wife and son, on other texts in psychoanalytic social theory by Erik Erikson, Erich Fromm, Herbert Marcuse, Georges Bataille, and Max Horkheimer, and on secondary scholarship on the origins of National Socialist ideology. The thesis argues that despite the influence of reactionary tendencies in Reich's personality and cultural and social milieu, Character Analysis remains a valuable work in the development of a convincing theory of liberation.

Abstract:
Abstract In attempting to contribute from an epistemological point of view to the current debate on psychoanalytic research, we have sought in our thesis to establish a conceptual history of the origins of the psychoanalytic method, a clinical method of investigation and treatment developed in Vienna between 1886 and 1896 by neuropathologist Sigmund Freud. This work is divided into three main parts. In the first, entitled “the antecedents”, we propose to identify within the neurology and psychiatry of French and German languages the empirical conditions of the emergence of the psychoanalytic method. In the second, entitled “the precedents”, the objective is to recognize within this same tradition a certain number of practices related to psychoanalysis, practices considered here as concurrent of Freud's method. Finally, in the third and last part, entitled “the origins”, we have tried to understand how psychoanalysis has actually established itself as a clinical method of investigation and treatment in its particular context of emergence. At the end of this itinerary, we were able to recognize the existence of three elements which are at the base of the Freudian method and which are in the continuity of its antecedents and precedents: 1) a non-dualistic notion of psyche anchored in the postulate of psycho-physical parallelism; 2) a nosological model based on a non-congenital constitutional hypothesis; and 3) a dynamic conception of the psychophysiological relationships between representations and affects. Finally, we conclude that although Freud's psychoanalysis possesses a specificity regarding other psychological and contemporary practices, it cannot be considered as a historical event disconnected from its scientific context, nor as something absolutely exceptional concerning other knowledge about the human being

Abstract:
This dissertation examines psychoanalysis in a colonial context, tracing its history in early to mid-twentieth century India. A rich, neglected archive of diaries, letters, administrative documents, as well as psychoanalytical and literary writing in Bengali and English, are drawn on to offer an account of the Indian Psychoanalytical Society (est. 1921), and the anthropologists, doctors, army officers and political figures who were in different ways intimately involved with psychoanalysis. Reconstructing these narratives, and by means of a close reading of texts by Freud, I suggest that the understandings of temporality, sexuality and authority in Freudian psychoanalysis resist colonial discourses of progress and civilisation, notably in relation to the category of the 'primitive', thus frustrating attempts to appropriate the theory for colonial endeavours. In this thesis, psychoanalysis is both an object of historical study, and a form of questioning, part of colonial history and a body of writing and theory available for contested readings. I discuss writing by two colonial psychoanalysts, Lt. Colonel Claud Daly, and Owen A.R. Berkeley Hill, which combines an investment in psychoanalysis with commitment to Empire, based on a desire for all-knowing psychic and political mastery. In contrast, the memoirs of renowned psychoanalyst Wilfred Bion, recounting his childhood in India, are read for their more complex psychic register and anti-colonial strain. Records left by dream-collecting colonial administrators in the Naga Hills, and documents relating to the trial and 'insanity plea' of revolutionary nationalist Gopinath Saha, show us the historical operations of psychoanalysis in collective life. In addition, literary writing by the modernist poet H.D., Temsula Ao, Bankimcandra Chatterji, and Rabindranath Tagore, offers another template for examining the issues raised by both the historical and psychoanalytical writing.

Khan, David Michael. "Figuring Desire : psychoanalytic perspectives on the discourse surrounding Colin McCahon and Ralph Hotere." Thesis, University of Canterbury. Art History and Theory, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/10092/10786.

Abstract:
This thesis presents an interweaving of the discourse surrounding Colin McCahon and Ralph Hotere, the philosophy of art, and Lacanian psychoanalysis. In so doing, a Lacanian understanding of subjectivity, painting, discourse, and their interrelationships is elaborated in order to generate some new perspectives on, specifically, the work of McCahon and Hotere, and related writing and testimony, and more generally, the practice of art history and art criticism in Aotearoa/New Zealand. In the first place, this project explains, develops, and applies a Lacanian model of subjectivity/meaning-making understood in terms of the figuring of desire. This formula models expressions of subjectivity/meaning-making in terms of the reciprocity obtaining between the agent-like, metaphoric precipitation and automatist, metonymic perpetuation of symptomatic formations or points de capiton in discourses of desire. Secondly, this study analyses the discourse comprising paintings by McCahon and Hotere, and related writing, from the perspective of two points de capiton – the key features of which are gathered under the rubrics ‘McCahon’s doubt’ and ‘Hotere’s reticence’. The thesis demonstrates that these two formations enliven the possibility of interpreting McCahon discourse and Hotere discourse, respectively, in terms of repeated and contradictory characterisations of McCahon as a visionary and a doubter, and of Hotere as eloquent and reticent. Furthermore, the thesis shows how, by virtue of their fixation on the symptomatic formations ‘McCahon’s doubt’ and ‘Hotere’s reticence’, respectively, McCahon and Hotere discourses bear witness to radically contingent affirmations of, or leaps of faith in, praxes of contradiction, thereby sustaining fantasies of the revelation of the reality and truth of the being and meaning of art subjects and art objects. The impossibility of objectively realising these fantasies testifies to the status of subjective desire as that which seeks only its own perpetuation or that finds fulfilment in endlessly missing its aim and, by the same token, in Lacanian terms, underscores the (structural and ethical) necessity of subjectively being in and as traversing fantasy.

This research was developed in the field of the History of Science, by the hypothesis that psychoanalysis cannot be fully included in science, because there would be something in the transmission of this area of knowledge that would have remained attached to certain tradition, more particularly in the way it would be in magic. The original research motto came from an invitation prepared by Jacques Lacan (1901-1981) who summoned psychoanalysts to take an interest in magic theme. The study started from the influence of linguistics on the notion of science in Lacan, sought to articulate this approach the importance of magic to psychoanalysis, from the Freudian considerations and vision of structural anthropology. The result of the clearance of the differences between the concept of science and the importance of magic directed research into the function of the cause. It can be said then that the detailed search of the cause in psychoanalysis function, with variations, since the cause of madness until the cause of desire, helped to clarify, at least in one aspect, the importance of magic to psychoanalysis, which is to allows the psychoanalyst to be better located both in their position in the clinic and in teaching and transmitting the psychoanalysis

Ernest Jones (1879-1958), Welsh psychoanalyst and Freud‘s disciple, has produced a significant number of papers and books on Psychoanalysis throughout his life, and yet, at least in Brazil, his life and work are quite unknown. The aim of the thesis is to investigate the issue of invisibility - and the related theme importance / importance - of this author, based on the psychoanalytic reading of his biography and the selection of specific texts of his extensive work. A study on Jones is fully justified, therefore, in view of the novelty of his work and legacy and the importance of this character in the History of Psychoanalysis. The discussion of the research is given by the analysis of texts and documents that keep between themselves but an organized theoretical continuity, at least a coherent line, a repetition or similitude of contents or key ideas that help us to understand it. With the help and inspiration of authors such as Brenda Maddox, Veszy-Wagner, and Adam Phillips - who have studied the life and / or work of the Welsh psychoanalyst - we will examine some of the themes to which Jones has devoted himself in his many (and extremely eclectic) studies: the question of religion, of genius, of the Oedipal battle between father and son. The discussion of the author‘s selected texts and its interface with biographical data - besides historical contextualization - reveal a character that maintains coherence between his personal history (biography), his production on psychoanalysis and his role as ambassador of the international psychoanalytic movement. Studying this correlation was the course of the thesis, which had the financial support of CNPq (National Council for Scientific and Technological Development - Brazil)

Abstract:
Pioneer of the psychoanalysis in France, René Laforgue seems to be, today, forgotten.Neverless, several elements of his works influenced durably certain aspects of psychoanalysis.Runner of the report that no monograph was again dedicated to René Laforgue and to its work, this present thesis settles for objective to fill this gap. This research has for ambition to call back what was René Lafarge's role in the development and the institutionalization of the psychoanalysis in France and to replace his work in the field of the psychoanalytical theory, by underlining the heursistical fertility and by trying to measure the contributions and the limits, as well as the innovative aspects, in particular as regards the extension of the psychoanalytical approach in the political domain. The work of Lafarge is also put in perspective with regard to that of Freud of which it proceeds originally, before differing from it

Zoldan, Yann. "Résister, transmettre et exister face à l'oppression politique." Thesis, Toulouse 2, 2016. http://www.theses.fr/2016TOU20028.

Abstract:
To exist in this world is not always permitted. Political oppression and its paradigms: colonialism and fascism are willing to break people or to make them disappear. Consequentially, many people owe their existences to resistances. In the aftermath of the Second World War and over the ashes of Nazism this research has been in pursuit of fringe existences: what remains through transmission after historical traumas. This research drives us to explore different themes: Zionism, Shoah, peace processes. It leads us toward various research fields: In the north of Ireland, Israel, Palestine, and the Autonomous Jewish Region of Russia. Realties that we met are marked with historical traumas. Those traumas etched the existence of subjects. Existence becomes possible through the transmission of historical narratives. Identities are constituted by narratives that each subject and their community are creating. The narrative is a re-existence: a resistance. Revolted individuals are crossed between their subjective historicity, their surrounding history, the culture they carry within and the culture that they are carried by. Subjects who joined resistance want to take place in History to transmit, to resist and to become someone. It has been shown that in their quest for ideal they have to refer to a recomposed past. This past is an imagined territory inhabited by idealized heroes and a specific mystic. This imagined filiation has a therapeutic value; it seems to cure traumatic injuries and historical traumas. Political news highlights what we are developing in this thesis, as for instance the spectacular acts of individuals in lack of existence. These news raise again our research themes: What can we say about the fascist and anti-Semitic return? What sense could we give to silenced histories, to colonial unspoken or bad spoken?

Child Psychoanalysis was first introduced in Europe at the beginning of the 20th century, singled out by great controversies between Melanie Klein and Anna Freud. In Brazil, that sort of psychoanalytic practice was introduced from 1930 on as well-structured institutional practices, achieving a significant theoretical production. But it was under the auspices of the Psychoanalytic Societies that such a branch of the psychoanalytic science had a greater diffusion for its application, propagation, education background of child analysts and theoretical production which, although it is not significant, it has proven to be highly expressive. An important means of diffusion of the Brazilian psychoanalytic thought, which allows us to follow the evolution of works written on Child Psychoanalysis in Brazil, comprising the last decades, is Revista Brasileira de Psicanálise. That journal was carried out to comprise the plurality of different scientific branches found within the Societies of Psychoanalysis, thus ensuring their expression in the scientific field. The research at issue is a qualitative-based study of historical nature which tries to bound a segment of the Brazilian psychoanalysis, whose aim is to characterize the works written on Child Psychoanalysis in Brazil from 1967 to 2007, by means of papers written by Brazilian writers published in Revista Brasileira de Psicanálise. The outcomes achieved starting from the survey of papers on Child Psychoanalysis published in the journal focused on the following information: 89 out of 107 papers published on the subject, were written by Brazilian psychoanalysts, most of them in the 1990s; Maria P. Tym, Linda Dawn. "Forms of memory in late twentieth and twenty-first century Scottish fiction." Thesis, University of Edinburgh, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/1842/5551.

Abstract:
According to Pierre Nora, “[m]emory and history, far from being synonymous, appear now to be in fundamental opposition”. Drawing on theories of memory and psychoanalysis, my thesis examines the role of memory as a narrative of the past in late twentieth-century and twenty-first-century Scottish literature. I challenge Nora’s supposition that memory and history are fundamentally opposed and I argue that modern Scottish literature uses a variety of forms of memory to interrogate traditional forms of history. In my Introduction, I set the paradigms for my investigation of memory. I examine the perceived paradox in Scottish literature between memory and history as appropriate ways to depict the past. Tracing the origins of this debate to the work of Walter Scott, I argue that he sets the precedent for writers of modernity, where the concerns are amplified in late twentieth and twenty-first century literature and criticism. While literary criticism, such as the work of Cairns Craig and Eleanor Bell, studies the trope of history, Scottish fiction, such as the writing of Alasdair Gray, James Robertson, and John Burnside, asserts the position of memory as a useful way of studying the past. Chapter One examines the transmission of memory. Using George Mackay Brown’s Greenvoe, I consider the implications of three methods of transferring memory. Mrs McKee’s refusal to disclose her experience indicates a refusal to mourn loss and to transmit memory. Skarf’s revision of historical narratives indicates a desire to share experience. The Mystery of the Ancient Horsemen demonstrates the use of ritual in the preservation and the communication of the past for future generations. Chapter Two studies the Gothic fiction of Emma Tennant and Elspeth Barker. I examine sensory experience as indicative of the interior and non-linear structure of memory. I argue that the refusal to accept personal and familial loss reveals problematic forms of memory. Chapter Three traces unacknowledged memory in Alice Thompson’s Pharos. I use Nicolas Abraham’s theory of the transgenerational phantom to consider the effects of this undisclosed memory. I argue that the past and its deliberate suppression haunt future generations. Chapter Four considers the use of nostalgia as a form of memory. I investigate the perceptions and definitions of nostalgia, particularly its use as a representation of the Scottish national past. Using Neil Gunn’s Highland River, I identify nostalgia’s diverse functions. I examine nostalgia as a way in which, through the Scottish diaspora, memory is transferred and exhibited beyond national boundaries. Chapter Five builds on the previous chapter and extends the analysis of the ways nostalgia functions. I study nostalgia’s manifestations in the diasporic Scottish-Canadian literature of Sara Jeanette Duncan, John Buchan, Eric McCormack, and Alastair MacLeod.

Abstract:
Right after its publication in 1943, Sartre\'s Being and nothingness has received critical commentaries that pointed out its idealistic character. These lectures emphasized the incompatibility between Sartre\'s assertion of man\'s absolute freedom and the historical conditions which would determine it. When Sartre publishes, in 1960, his Critique of dialectic reason (\"encounter\" with Marxism), everything is seen as the confirmation of the idealism of Being and nothingness, overcoming the division of his thought in before and after the Critique. However, when Sartre defends the absolute of freedom he also affirms that there is no freedom without situation. We will try to emphasize this difficult relation between freedom and situation through the presentation of Sartre\'s concept of freedom, as well as through the examination of his psychoanalytic proposal.

Abstract:
This research underlines some elements from the history of masculinity in the West that would contribute to a particular reading of the Jacques Lacans sexuation formulas. Using the notion of man as a method, seminars undertaken between 1967 and 1973 were analyzed, in a period that includes both a valuation of the dimension of history by the French psychoanalyst as the actual development of the formulas. It is found to be a possible limit in Lacans appropriation of the Freudian myth of Totem and Taboo, bound to the formal specificity required by the internal logic of the formulas. The studys attempt is to demonstrate how a historical construction of masculinity and virility representations respond accurately to the demands required to support the formal logic of sexuation, as presented at the formulas.

Abstract:
The critique on psychoanalysis enforced by Gilles Deleuze & Félix Guattari is well known. Its intimate relationship with psychoanalysis, to the point where it is responsible for the creation of many core concepts in the schizoanalytical ouvre, though, isnt as well known. The critique formulated by the authors in The Anti-Oedipus: Capitalism and Schizophrenia related to the idealism concerning psychoanalysis, is condensed around i) the representation at stake in the psychoanalytical thought, ii) the understanding of the unconscious as a theatre, and iii) the familiarist mediation to which psychoanalysis would submit desire, In this text, the path following such questions is analysed and recovered, and the critique is examined trying to define its pertinence and the repercussion of such critique in the lacanian psychoanalytical ouvre. Some previous Works of Deleuze and Guattari are analysed, just as some of their philosophical foundations, in a way to compose a map of their thought. Jacques Lacans theoretical path i salso analysed, and, according to our demonstration, he was involved in similar questions to the ones that were being investigated by the schizoanalysts in many moments of their work. Some hypothesis are presented regarding the incorporation of part of the deleuzoguattarian ideas, and some considerations are made regarding the state of the materialism at stake in psychoanalysis. Finally, some ponderations by contemporary thinkers regarding this debate are presented, placing such comments in relation to the framework of this text. Its conclucded that, even though the relationship between both currents of thought is deeply marked by many rupture points, a plane of dialogue is not only possible, but constitutive of both fields

Abstract:
C.G. Jung and his followers have emphazised the importance of the maternal imago forindivuals, groups and societies. This topic was barely developped by Freud, which is not thecase for Freudian analysts of the following generations ; one might cite for example MelanieKlein or D.W. Winnicott. Didier Anzieu and René Kaës, both French psychoanalysts, havemade an attempt to articulate the individual and the collective in their studies about groups andhave confirmed the equivalence of the group and the maternal imago. In this doctoral thesis, Ihave attempted to examine and assess the importance of this maternal representation in Frenchpolitical life during this formative period for French politics which lasts from the Revolution toWWI. I have chosen to study this issue through maternal metaphors and allegories in publicdiscourses, which include political speeches and other discourses, like award speeches at school, for example. I do not give psychoanalytical interpretation, unless it seems obvious. Thereference framework of this thesis is historical research, but psychoanalysis is itscomplementary or shadow framework. The results of the research show that maternalmetaphors and allegories were widely used in most public speeches of that time, in manydifferent forms. Nature (during the Revolution), heavenly Jerusalem or Virgin Mary in theconservative camp, and other maternal representations which were created by the early socialists– among which the “Community” (Etienne Cabet) – as well as Michelet’s maternal andmessianic France. The Republicans’ father - or rather motherland, the religion of Humanity asseen by Auguste Comte and the positivists, the religion of the Earth and the Dead (MauriceBarrès) are some examples... Maternal metaphors and allegories constitute a promise ofhappiness, an ideal and/or a submission request. These mother figures have children, mainlysons. This doctoral thesis confirms the importance of the privileged relationship between motherand son on the political level. Very often the “first” of these sons establishes himself as thespokesman or the interpreter of this metaphor or allegory. Robespierre, Napoléon, the first emperor of France, or Gambetta are some examples. In the ideological or fictional contextwhich these metaphors and allegories induce, there is hardly any room for the individual or forthe woman as such, the relationship between Mother and Son is the main identification modelwhich is proposed

Abstract:
Lacan’s teachings relied on Hegel with a repeated reference to Kierkegaard.Furthermore, the History of Psychoanalysis in Denmark starts with Kierkegaard’s work that serves as an introduction to analytical discourse. The second part, entitled Danish Psychoanalysis in the 20th century, opens with the analysis of the report written about the first psychoanalytical treatment ever carried out in Denmark. The treatment, placed in the socio-cultural context of the time, was administered by Sigurd Næsgaard (1883-1956) in the early 1930’s. The « negative transference» surrounding psychoanalysis in Denmark was in large part due to August Wimmer (1872-1937) who was a professor of psychiatry and a renowned physician in medical and legal institutions. We also examined various influences by the Danish analyst P.C. Petersen (1889-1976), Wilhelm Reich (1897-1957), and Oskar Pfister (1873-1956).In the 1950’s, Dr Thorkil Vanggaard (1910-1998) gave Danish psychoanalysis its « ego-psychology » orientation and finally earned the recognition of the Danish Psychoanalytical Society through the International Psykoanalytical Association. In the 1970’s there was renewed interest in psycholoanalysis in academia. Lacanian circles were formed, creating a reconnection to Kierkegaard’s work. The influence of psychoanalysis grew steadily until the end of the 20th century when many therapists were trained. Although no academic chair was ever established, countless academic bodies refer to psychoanalysis. In addition to « historical » psychoanalytical societies, new ones are emerging. How is Danish psychoanalysis doing in 2017? That is the question the third part of this thesis attempts to answer

There were many important names that have built this psychoanalytical historic movement, but Sándor Ferenczi stands out among the first great psychoanalysts by his priority in a constant search for therapeutic improvement and, moreover, the keen clinical sensitivity and technical innovations postulated that ultimately influenced, directly or indirectly, much of the subsequent development of psychoanalytical theory. The intend of this study is, likewise, contribute to new theoretical interpretations and to a critical stance on the studies of Ferenczi that remains, even today, very contemporary, effective and, even, bruising – regarding, for example, the questions about the psychoanalytic institution and the role of analyst – for clinical work and thinking about the social and subjective demands of contemporary. From a historical retake of his theoretical and clinical constructions, beginning in an interrelation with the Freudian psychoanalysis productions and, later, a growing divergence between Ferenczi’s stance and that of the most analysts of his time, this research highlights his major contributions to the entire of psychoanalytical science and its influence in contemporary clinical practice

The thesis presented here defends the existence of a Visual Art course in the subsoil of the School of Arts and Architecture and explores the idea of a repression of this content, which returns to the surface in the form of symptoms. The structure in notebooks seeks to solve the singularities of from each approach of this phenomenon. This research stitches memories that oat within a the School of Art and Architecture of Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Goiás. It gives special attention to the fragments relative to the practice of drawing in itself and the factors that surround it. Freud, Rüssen, Didi Huberman and Ricouer bless and get along in these chapters that describe the Arts and Architecture School of UCG (Escola de Artes e Arquitetura da UCG): Freud, opening the rst notebook, inspires every remark in the text that show how psique, inevitable path to the historic content, changes it. Lacan grounds the drawing of a map named the Interpretation of the Freudian psychic system, while Rüssen orients the conceptualization of the sources. In the second notebook, Didi Huberman brings to the text the idea of collage as an instrument of an assembly that carries meaning within itself. This concept was used both to organize the complexity that lies around the beings drawing, architecture, teaching methodology, arts and artists, and also strongly inspired the assembly of this very thesis, organized in notebooks, built by blocks of text that keep between them the gaps of collage. Still on notebook 2, the text makes an exercise with Paul Ricoeur, countering the relativization of any past with the statement that it only exists through the mediation of the present, with a positivist stream of historiographical praxis, both in classes previous to graduation, as in graduation courses, such as Architecture and Urbanism. In the third notebook, this problematization, applied to the very school’s contingencies, is better felt, through the exposing of documents: images with syllabi, programs, drawings and illustrations. In notebook IV, the bid is of a discourse in images, which not only illustrate the propositions in other notebooks, but also propose a visual narrative of free collage. To achieve this e ect we made two versions, one online and one printed. In the rst, the diagramming takes care that the images and phrases have white space of reverberation around each other. In the printed version, we use detached blades so that the reader can examine them separately. Furthermore, the images speak for itself. Literally.
Ademais, as imagens falam por si. Literalmente.

Os resultados obtidos a partir do levantamento dos artigos sobre Psicanálise de Crianças publicados no periódico apontam as seguintes informações: 107 artigos publicados sobre o tema, destes 89 de autoria de psicanalistas nacionais, a maioria na década de 1990; Maria P. Abstract: Child Psychoanalysis was first introduced in Europe at the beginning of the 20th century, singled out by great controversies between Melanie Klein and Anna Freud. Manhães and Marisa Pelella Mélega, Brazilian writers with the largest number of papers... (Complete abstract click electronic access below)

The intend of this study is, likewise, contribute to new theoretical interpretations and to a critical stance on the studies of Ferenczi that remains, even today, very contemporary, effective and, even, bruising - regarding, for example, the questions about the psychoanalytic institution and the role of analyst - for clinical work and thinking about the social and subjective demands of contemporary. From a historical retake of his theoretical and clinical constructions, beginning in an interrelation with the Freudian psychoanalysis productions and, later, a growing divergence between Ferenczi's stance and that of the most analysts of his time, this research highlights his major contributions to the entire of psychoanalytical science and its influence in contemporary clinical practice

Abstract:
A large percentage of art has always been devoted to the images of the feminine. In Greco-Roman as well as in Judeo-Christian iconography, these multiple representations are synonymous with confusion and ambivalence. The common link between woman and her image is the ability to arouse distrust and fascination. By means of an in-depth study of some key figures from the history of art, we hereby put forward a post-feminist review of the diverse facets of the feminine, viewed under the sacred/secular dyad. Myths and faiths gave rise to a pagan-Christian hybrid, bringing forth a constant “Eternal Feminine” that is still firmly rooted in contemporary art. It is sometimes the faith of the image, sometimes its condemnation, that encapsulates the unresolvable fight between the human and the divine. Woman will remain forever the obscure element that is associated with appearance and beauty. In the course of our research, we ascertained that woman and painting are in perfect harmony; they are inseparable because iconoclasm and misogyny often go hand in hand. Step by step, the body will replaces the canvas and the make-up, the painting of transgender artists. In queer parodies between exhibition and shamanism, they reinvent their transformation into the feminine. The surface of the work becomes a mirror that reflects this Other, the alter ego, so longed for. Feminist thinking is set in motion through the revolutions of genders. Artists of the 20th and 21st centuries offer us a vision of an ideal without an original, a new Pygmalion or Narcissus, somewhere between masquerade and melancholy. Finally, we return to the art of the women. Divided between violence, humour and charis, their methods are often borderline, in their quest for the sacred that is beyond religion. They offer to evolve into “pandorien” art to shatter for ever the henceforth overly famous idea: «be beautiful and remain silent! »

Abstract:

Abstract:
Almost no one dares to disagree that the professional life of the teacher of basic education in Brazil is a discredited task, poorly remunerated and that there are no minimum physical conditions necessary and, on the other hand, that no big personal investment is required, because the teacher act depends primarily of a kind of \"gift\". However, the school and the figure of the teacher are nothing more than mere human creations, just as the images of the conditions of malaise in which the teacher works are also the same; though we have become accustomed to forget that they are so. The images inhabit the heart of a discourse consolidated as truth about the master\'s profession, but which, nevertheless, works in spite of the stipulation of discursive positions or definitions of concepts. That is, it is not exempt from one program of qualification and disqualification from the other. In other words, while some teachers get sick teaching, others heal; while some stray from the precariousness of school conditions, others are enunciated by and in their transposition. This reallocates the research on teacher renunciation beyond the hegemonic discourse of all sorts of precarious of the school or even of the material existence of a malady properly teaching, that only exists during the teacher and that, therefore, it is possible of cure. In this way, to question the causes of the different forms of renunciation of the basic education teachers, in the beginning, implies the disruption of the attendance to the demand of a Cartesian logic, that to be directed by the pointing of a conclusive instance of the resignation, deviates from a investigation. In this sense, I invite you to read the present work, which proposes new ways of listening to a certain interpretation of Psychoanalysis about some of the consolidated historical records of Brazilian basic education throughout its history. It is the search for marginal, but revealing, subsidies to learn more about what conditions contribute and have contributed to the fact that the majority of those who are still seeking teacher training for elementary education do not have a place to practice their profession.

Violence dwells in human societies ever since the first groupings one knows of. It is argued, in this sense, that violence has been reproduced through the civilizing process. This is the premise we depart from in order to identify an element that might participate in the process of reproduction of violence. We chose 5th Grade History books as the object of research. The essence of a historic fact cannot be changed, but the ways one approaches and presents it are quite variable. We focus our attention, therefore, on ways of approaching historic themes and facts. The theoretical background is that of Psychoanalysis. Freud considers that the subject is evil by nature, a fact that constitutes one of the major barriers to social life. Such ideas are based on the theory of drives, which, according to Freud, explains the social and individual life. This is the model that informs the comparison we made between the concepts of culture and individual theorized by Freud and the models of culture and individual in the didactic books. We noticed that the History didactic books use the resources of projection (in the Psychoanalytical sense) and euphemism to soften violence in History. They are ultimately an element that both socializes and trivializes violence.

Abstract:
From 1927 through 1939, Salvador Dalí went through an arduous artistic pursuit to visualize his perspective on reality. Dalí’s inter-connected visual and verbal process lasted for over a decade, during which he went from confronting reality to accepting that the world is an irrational paradox. This study asserts that his investigation took him from the fragmented images of cinema to the metamorphic shapes of the ‘soft and hard’ and ultimately to a series of multiple images, which envisioned his paranoid-critical method. In his 1930 article “The Rotting Donkey,” Dalí wrote, “I believe that the moment is near when, through a process of thought of a paranoiac and active character, it will be possible to systematize confusion and contribute to the total discrediting of the world of reality.” By 1930, Dalí knew he wanted to completely “discredit” the world and he saw Albert Einstein’s space-time and Sigmund Freud’s discovery of the unconscious as proof for the existence of a new dimension of experience. In 1933, Dalí found further evidence for his viewpoint in Jacques Lacan’s writings on paranoia. While Dalí wrote of and incorporated Einstein’s, Freud’s and Lacan’s ideas into his art, he came to his own conclusions on reality, which he gave form to in his artworks. To illuminate Dalí’s creative process this thesis will examine Dalí’s infamous film Un chien andalou (1929), his iconic painting The Persistence of Memory (1931), and his under-appreciated masterpiece The Endless Enigma (1938), as he visually expressed his changes in thought most clearly and convincingly in these three works.

Abstract:

Abstract: The establishment of research into Science Education began in Brazil in the end of the decade of the 1960's and only recently, in the year 2000, was it recognized as a field by Capes. During this time, many works tried to analyse its history, describing the determinant factors of its constitution and upholding. In our research we look back on some of these works, focusing on subjective aspects that contributed to its development. We chose as reference the works of Nardi (2005) and Villani, Pacca & Freitas (2002), and some other psychoanalytic concepts developed by René Kaes referring to psychic life of group and institutions. These elements allowed us to interpret the events that highlighted the history in the field of Science Education, taking into consideration that any groups is made up of, organizes itself and develops itself according to the configuration that overlays the representation system of its members, of the task proposed, the group itself and the social context. After we were able to identify the four organizational moments in the development of the intersubjective links existing in an institution which are - the arising moment, the first, the second and the third group organizer, we searched for the intermediates that highlighted the interchanges, the places, the attributions, the representational activities and the affection. One can recognize in the History and Philosophy of Science (HPS) the fundamental intermediary in each developing phase of the field and search for elements to better understand the roles played by the HPS in research, especially its contributions to the foundation and establishment in the field. To obtain more potential and subjective information, many researchers in this field were interviewed whose scientific works showed some proximity with the HPS. Our interpretation took a head start when we integrated a new concept to support... (Complete abstract click electronic access below)
