<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> Within the framework of the project “Vltava – transformation of historical landscape as a result of floods, dams creation and land-use changes along with cultural and social activities in the river neighbourhood” funded by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, we deal with many aspects of the Vltava River, considering the significant changes that have taken place in its history. In this paper, we are focusing on the reconstruction of the historic Vltava valley as of 1950s, the period just before the construction of the dam reservoirs cascade on the Vltava River. The aim is to create DTM, which will be the basis of visualizations and analyses of the old river bed.</p>

Abstract:
This paper presents an automatic building extraction method which utilizes a photogrammetric digital surface model (DSM) and digital orthophoto map (DOM) with the help of historical digital line graphic (DLG) data. To reduce the need for manual labeling, the initial labels were automatically obtained from historical DLGs. Nonetheless, a proportion of these labels are incorrect due to changes (e.g., new constructions, demolished buildings). To select clean samples, an iterative method using random forest (RF) classifier was proposed in order to remove some possible incorrect labels. To get effective features, deep features extracted from normalized DSM (nDSM) and DOM using the pre-trained fully convolutional networks (FCN) were combined. To control the computation cost and alleviate the burden of redundancy, the principal component analysis (PCA) algorithm was applied to reduce the feature dimensions. Three data sets in two areas were employed with evaluation in two aspects. In these data sets, three DLGs with 15%, 65%, and 25% of noise were applied. The results demonstrate the proposed method could effectively select clean samples, and maintain acceptable quality of extracted results in both pixel-based and object-based evaluations.

Abstract:
We examined whether it is possible to relate concentrations of trace elements in alluvial sediments with records concerning the intensity of mining, and use them as a means of dating. We conducted our research in the medieval mining district of the town of Kutn&aacute; Hora in the Czech Republic. Samples were collected under the pond dam and analysed for clay, silt and sand content and for As, Be, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Mo, Ni, Pb, V and Zn concentrations. We observed two main peaks of element concentrations (Be, Co, Cr, Cu, Hg, Pb, V and Zn), independent of grain fractions. The peaks were interpreted as a result of human activity. The concentration curves, stratigraphy and location of the dam/alluvium boundary were compared with historical records of mining production. This means of dam dating into the 16th century agreed with historical dating from written sources. Trace elements were also successfully used as stratigraphic markers. The comparison between concentration patterns of V and other well interpreted elements (Be, Co, Cr, Cu, Hg, Pb and Zn) enabled to recognize a material directly originating from the mines. The elements thus helped to interpret local sedimentation history.

Abstract:
AbstractNumerous primary investigators collected and processed long-termed time series on German educational statistics in the context of their studies. As a result, there are a multitude of quantitative empirical studies. On the one hand, there is the project group on German Educational Statistics.1Its projects were targeted at describing and analyzing the long-term structural changes of the German educational system on a broad empirical and statistical basis. On the other hand, there are comprehensive data compilations of individual research projects, focusing on a wide variety of special educational research topics. The online database “histat” provides central digital access to these datasets on German educational history. Currently, it offers more than 120,000 long-term time series on the German educational system for a period of 200 years. The striking size of the database shows its key importance for researchers in the field of education. Thus, this paper aims to provide useful insights into the background of the database, the special characteristics of the data compilations and their analytical potential. Additionally, examples are given of how the data have already been used by researchers.

Abstract:
AbstractThis paper investigates the long-term impact of historical missionary activity on HIV in sub-Saharan Africa. On the one hand, missionaries were the first to invest in modern medicine in the region. On the other hand, Christianity influenced sexual beliefs and behaviors that affect the risk of contagion. We build a new geocoded dataset locating Protestant and Catholic missions in the early 20th century, as well as the health facilities they invested in, that we combine with individual-level Demographic and Health Survey data. With these data, we can address separately these two channels, within regions close to historical missionary settlements. First, we show that proximity to historical missionary health facilities decreases the likelihood of HIV; persistence in healthcare provision and safer sexual behaviors in the region explain this result. Second, we show that regions close to historical missionary settlements exhibit higher likelihood of HIV. This effect is driven by the Christian population in our sample. This suggests conversion to Christianity as a possible explanatory channel. Our findings are robust to alternative specifications addressing selection.

Abstract:
This thesis on historical development of the construction of residential buildings and its effect on market prices of dwellings currently in Liberec accompanies the issue of correlation between architectural styles and price currently. It is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part is focused on explaining concepts such as housing, housing stock, housing market and its failure, which follows the historical description of the construction of residential buildings. In other chapters of this part is talking about urban planning and housing policy. The practical part looks at this issue from the perspective of a particular town, which is Liberec. For him the basic information about the local conditions, history of architecture and subsequently through the commodities market tested real estate prices mentioned correlation and era of construction. The main source of research is in the thesis comparing average prices per m2 for each building type. During and at the end, the results are commented and compared.

It is a place which brings together three disparate streams - Classical serious at the running part of Mendel Square, dramatically quarreling upper section flowing into the area from Hus class and insignificant Anenská that, if there "just got lost." Abstract:
The place has a unique location - in between Stare Brno, where the city originated, and the historical city centre. Its triangular shape is defined by two adjoining streets, a vibrant and ancient Pekarska and much younger Anenska. It is also a kind of transition between the big noble city and a shabby, yet fairy area. The design seeks to create a complex of buildings that react to these specific features and add a new layer to the city. The first decision was to enclose this heterogeneous area. Thus a clear structure is defined in regard to both streets as well as their junction. Due to its specific location, the site is built on intensively, yet without exceeding the overall height level of the area. The mass on the north side goes gradually down and the corner forms a firm figure. In the less important street, the scale of the objects becomes smaller, thus interacting with its surroundings. The re-created St. Anna lane acts as a contemporary link between these two worlds. Moreover, it is possible to climb up from there to a public garden on the hill. Functionally, apartment buildings prevail. The corner block serves as offices and there are shops on the ground level. The lane is lined with small studios for artists and craftsman, thus giving the area a unique character.

Abstract:
The purpose of this chapter is to provide an historical overview of the classification of personality disorders. The chapter will cover the first through the fifth editions of the American Psychiatric Association’s diagnostic manual, although emphasis will be given to the more recent editions. Considered in particular are the various components of the proposals for DSM-5, including the deletion of five diagnoses, the inclusion of a psychodynamically-oriented level of personality functioning scale, the replacement of specific and explicit criterion sets first with narrative prototype matching and subsequently with newly developed hybrid criterion sets, and the inclusion of a dimensional trait model. Covered as well will be the World Health Organization’s diagnostic system for the personality disorders, including a dimensional trait model along with a borderline pattern qualifier, which may in fact meet with final approval. Attention will be given in particular to controversies that beset each edition, particularly with respect to complexity and empirical support. The chapter concludes with suggestions for future editions.

Abstract:
Historic villages are included in the category of cultural heritage to be safeguarded and preserved. Accidental events, such as earthquakes, represent a threat to their vulnerability. Usually, the analyses of damaged buildings, which are part of these villages, are then carried out singularly, not fostering instead the constitution of a mapping at the urban scale that allows a more complete knowledge of the state of damage and risk of adjacent buildings and of the entire area. An information system such as 3D GIS is a suitable solution for this purpose. The aim of this research is to develop a SMART management system for preservation activities of historical villages through the management of heterogeneous types of data, from the survey to the technical documentation. The workflow is structured as follows: (i) Data acquisition: the survey of a small village was carried out by combining geomatic techniques necessary to produce a complete point cloud; (ii) 3D modeling: data extrapolation from the post-processed point cloud and subsequently generation of a GIS based on 3D model thanks to the creation of DTM and DSM of the area of interest; (iii) Knowledge modeling: a geospatial information model is necessary to put in order and together all the information collected for the whole village and for each building composing it; (iv) SMART management modeling: improvement of the information management system that guarantees the possibility to enrich and update data at any time. This research paves the way to develop a web platform where GIS data would be imported for a digital twin approach.

In XXVII Conference of the Danubian Countries on Hydrological Forecasting and Hydrological Bases of Water Management. Nika-Tsentr, 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.15407/uhmi.conference.01.05.

Full text
Abstract:
Data on historic floods along the Danube River exist since the year 1012. In the Middle Ages, floods were estimated based on historical documents, including original handwritten notes, newspaper articles, chronicles, formal letters, books, maps and photographs. From 1500 until the beginning of organized water regime observations, floods were hydraulically reconstructed based on water marks on old buildings in cities along the Danube (Passau, Melk, Emmersdorf an der Donau, Spilz, Schonbuhen and Bratislava). The paper presents a procedure for assessing the statistical significance of registered historic floods using a comprehensive method for defining theoretical flood hydrographs at hydrological stations. The approach is based on correlation analysis of two basic flood hydrograph parameters – maximum hydrograph ordinate (peak) and flood wave volume. The PROIL model is used to define the probability of simultaneous occurrence of these parameters. It defines the exceedance probability of two random variables, in the specific case two hydrograph parameters of the form: P{Qmax more equal to qmax,p)∩(Wmax more equal to wmax,p)} = P (1) where: Qmax – maximum hydrograph ordinate (peak); qmax,p – maximum discharge of the probability of occurrence p; Wmax – maximum hydrograph volume; wmax,p – maximum flood wave volume of the probability of occurrence p; P – exceedance probability. Spatial positions of the lines of exceedance of two flood hydrograph parameters and the empirical points of the corresponding parameters of the considered historic flood in the correlation field Qmax - Wmax, allow direct assessment of the exceedance probability of a historic flood, or its statistical significance. The proposed procedure was applied in practice to assess the statistical significance of the biggest floods registered along the Danube in the sector from its mouth to the Djerdap 1 Dam. The linear trend in the time-series of maximum annual flows at a representative hydrological station and the frequency of historic floods in the considered sector of the Danube are discussed at the end of the paper.

Abstract:
Ulza Dam is one of the oldest hydropower infrastructures in Albania. The water capacity of the reservoir has been reduced because of the accumulation of the sediments coming from Mat River. The bathymetric measurements and river sediment transport are used for quantifying the water storage change up to nowadays. Analyzing the future climate change impact in the sediment transport from the river is very important for understanding the Ulza Dam lifespan. In order to analyze the sediment regime in the future, the climate change projection from the EURO-CORDEX has been downscaled for Mat River catchment and used as input for the HEC-HMS hydrological model considering also the erosion and sediment module. The hydrological model was also calibrated with the MUSLE parameters, and it reproduces the average value of the total sediment transport. The analysis of climate change impact on erosion and sediment transported at the reservoirs was done considering the mean annual load for the different 30-year simulated periods related to values from the historical period 1981-2010. Considering the impacts of climate change, the mean annual sediment siltation could increase for RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 scenarios. Over this hypothesis, the remaining lifespan can be reduced drastically in both scenarios. Different land-use scenarios were analyzed in order to evaluate the impact of erosion and, because the current land use scenario doesn’t produce any impact on the hydrological process, but only effects at a small scale, two hypothetical scenarios were defined at large scale and applied for Mat River catchment. Extensive management of land use and reforestation produce a positive effect on the hydrological process and reducing the erosion rate. The change of land use significantly counteracts the negative effects of climate change by 15% and a 24% reduction in the case of these land-use scenarios.

Abstract:
The URL links to a website page in the Drexel Digital Museum (DDM) fashion image archive containing a 3D interactive panorama of an evening gown by French fashion designer Christian Lacroix with related text. This evening gown by Christian Lacroix is from his Fall 1990 collection. It is constructed from silk plain weave, printed with an abstract motif in the bright, deep colors of the local costumes of Lacroix's native Arles, France; and embellished with diamanté and insets of handkerchief edged silk chiffon. Ruffles of pleated silk organza in a neutral bird feather print and also finished with a handkerchief edge, accentuate the asymmetrical draping of the gown. Ruching, controlled by internal drawstrings and ties, creates volume and a slight pouf, a nod to 'le pouf' silhouette Lacroix popularized in his collection for Patou in 1986. Decorative boning on the front of the bodice reflects Lacroix's early education as a costume historian and his sartorial reinterpretation of historic corsets. It is from the private collection of Mari Shaw. The panorama is an HTML5 formatted version of an ultra-high resolution ObjectVR created from stitched tiles captured with GigaPan technology.
