Caen, 2008. http://www.theses.fr/2008CAEN2030.

Abstract:
It is usual to consider sport as the out come of play motor function. And jet, as regards the number of members Olympic wrestling, unjustly called “greco roman”, is superseded by Breton “gouren”. Trough a diachronic and synchronic approach we’ll be concerned with showing the workings of a thwarted “sportification”. The research is to be made through the deciphering of historical documents and the analysis of game sheets referring to the inner logic of two types of wrestling. Born from the show business, then borrowed by “catch” wrestling, the inner logic of “greco roman” has progressively got more strict as it became “sportification”. Sport competition is now its only form of expression. It goes trough a violence just as symbolic (violation of private space through the playing on the floor) as real (the important degree of shocks when falling), making a gap with the process of habits and ways getting wilder. By keeping its play tonality, the “gouren” is of a more flexible nature, and more open to a larger public, women and children can resort to it as an activity for leisure. Even in its competition form the “gouren” keep its strong regional identity. As regards the wrestling aspect of it, this sport is probably not the best there is when playing is concerned

Abstract:
Why did rugby turn professional more than a century after its football counterpart ? In order to understand such a time-lag, we shall evoke the history of ball games and that of their practitioners. They will tell us about the emergence of the two sports as the result of conflicts and struggles between social groups for the political, economic and symbolic domination of each of the two practices. Despite the split involved by this choice in 1895, the people in charge of rugby opted for an amateur ethos and thanks to various protections created by their institution or not, they managed to impose it, at least apparently. But in response to the inapplicability of that outdated dogma the “amateurisme marron” settled locally and rugby gradually unofficially made its production mode similar to that of the capitalistic society. The rationalization of its body production would both be the cause of its turning professional and its main consequence

Lesage, Thierry. Paris 5, 2006. http://www.theses.fr/2006PA05H086.

Abstract:
With a view to shedding light on their kinship, palm and racket games are considered according to both a diachronic and synchronic approach, based on a corpus of 217 practices. By putting the subject under study in its socio-historical context, the diachronic view clearly shows the main thread that notably links the original palm game of the late Middle Ages to present day sports like tennis, table tennis, squash or pelota. The synchronic view. Which does not rely directly on time-related changes, shows the true nature of these practices through the analysis oftheir internal logic. In the context ofa comparative process between diachrony and synchrony, the study of conceptual tools specific to systematics of evolution sciences could prove itself worthwhile to give an account of the characteristic features of sporting games considered in a chronological way. Abstract:
Taiwan is a historically disputed territory, colonized by different regimes since the 17th century. After the Second World War in 1945, Taiwan was dominated by the KMT (Kuomintang, the Chinese Nationalist Party). In the history of Taiwan's sport, Taiwanese athletes have been excluded from international sport because of political issue between two Chinas. The origins of the development of women’s sports in Taiwan can also be seen as the product of political factors, which replace the absence of male athletes in the international field in the1960s and 1970s. This research will enter the history of women’s elite sport from the first appearance of sportswomen on the world stage, which is also the period that the republican China in Taiwan loses gradually its allies and its seat in the international field. We want to discover the development of sport for women in Taiwan, and try to reveal what role they have played, how political events have influenced the development of sport and women's sport in particular, how women’s sport have influenced politics and Taiwanese society, and how these sports women are described and represented in the press

Bordeaux 2, 2008. http://www.theses.fr/2008BOR21520.

Full text
Abstract:
This history of the psychological preparation for the « sportsmen », ranges from the Middle Ages to our days. It redraws the way was integrated the « moral sense » and the collective virtues which dominate the behaviors of the knights in the Middle Ages. During the Renaissance, with the creation of academic arts, occurs a new approach in the learning of the physical exercises based on « geometrized » and « mathematized » initiations putting at stake the mechanisms of feelings and the principles of memorization. These teaching methods develop the capacities of « judgment » and « reasoning » of the gentlemen. In Great Britain, in the middle of the XVIIth century, begins quite another attention on the functions of the spirit within the framework of the sports experiences: henceforth it refers to the « tranquility of mind » and to « stimulating » or « inciting » the mind faculties respecting the alternation of training and recovery phases. During the XIXth century, the English Training System is definitively imperative in Europe. It articulates around the new knowledge of the brain physiology inducing a new glance on the methods of training. The end of the XIXth century is marked by the emergence, in the United States, of a sport and exercise psychology based on scientific studies. It is from the 1960s, that programs of psychological preparation are applied to the sportsmen, coming to complete the physical, technical and tactical methods of training. Today, mental procedures play an integral part in the quest for athletic performance

Abstract:
Through the FFEPMM (Physical Training in the Modern World's French Federation) Sports for All's original history, this study tries to understand how a sporting organization can build its identity whereas it has neither specific sport nor strong ideology. Looking, from the origins to nowadays, at the values highlighted, the power which is at stake, but also the territorial's development and the federal communication, outlines of an identity become apparent. As well as appear the difficulties and the limits of that identitary building. The FFEPMM Sports for All was forerunner in the fact of taking care of various populations. But it lost its specificity as the society changed, and these populations have been taken into account. Likewise, for the Sports for All problematic, this federation was pionneer but let it escape when the State administration's policies developped, in the 80'. Nowadays, the Sport for All is highlighted again, but it is not specific to this federation any more. In this context, what positionment, what identity for this federation? Following step by step this organization's history, this thesis tries to bring a contribution to this question of identity. It also wants, by its pluridisciplinary look on the identity, the sporting organizations and the sport for all, to be a star dust offering its light to the STAPS's constellation

Abstract:
Golf has come a long way in the world since the 13th century, but also in Slovakia. The beginnings of golf in Slovakia date back to before the First World War. The blossoming was halted by the Communist regime, which golf considered to be unacceptable. In Slovakia, the expansion of golf began only in the new millennium, with the construction of golf courses and the increase in the number of golfers. Twenty-five years of golf in the heart of Europe suffered from various prejudices. Golf is a snobbish and expensive sport for Slovaks, despite the cost is comparable to skiing. The turning year 2020 affected all parts of our lives with the Covid 19 pandemic. What slowed down our lives, that started the world of golf. The corona closed all sports grounds and closed people at home in Slovakia. Since golf is safe even in the event of pandemics, the courses were limited only for a few weeks and then they filled up with golfers to the last spots. Not only the pandemic, but also the 2020 Olympic Games helped in the development of golf in Slovakia. For the first time in history, Rory Sabbatini the Slovak golfer started with a double cross on his chest. Thanks to him, many prejudices against this sport have changed.

Abstract:
The historical path towards gender equality was not a straight line but rather complex due to different methodological and thematic directions, but it evaluated and made a great contribution to the history of women's sports. This corrected decades-long failures to assign women an exact place in the historical record and enable the presentation of a woman's historical point of view. This paper explores the problems encountered in defining the history of women's sport as well as the place of women's sport today, including lack of visibility, lack of funding and lack of women in leadership positions in sports 10th International Scientific Conference 59 organizations. Ways in which these problems can be solved are analyzed, including improving marketing strategies, recognizing and understanding the organizational and managerial dynamics of women in leadership positions, as well as improving the financing of women's sports. The use of theoretical strategies such as intersectionality, which uses the vectors of gender, race, class, and sexuality as a primary theoretical and analytical tool, is considered a good choice for insight into the connection of social life and structural inequality. As a result of all these measures, it is possible for women's sport to gain more visibility, which would condition the improvement of equality in management positions in sports organizations and better representation of women in sports in the future.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT The topic of this report is related to introducing information about the Olympic flame’s passing through Bulgaria in 1936. Our country takes a significant place in the development of the international Olympic movement. Since it participated in the first modern Olympic Games, our country has persisted in establishing the Olympic values in society through the gymnastics movement, the Bulgarian Olympic Committee activities, and other prominent sports people’s activities. An important feature related to Bulgarian sport’s involvement in the Olympic idea and the Olympic movement was our active participation in organizing the first carrying of the Olympic flame. This study aims to reveal new information on the topic. The research encompasses several major areas for collecting information – foreign literary sources research (13 sources); a survey of all publications by Bulgarian researchers-historians in the field of sport and the Olympic movement in Bulgaria (11 sources); a review of all preserved Bulgarian periodicals since 1936 (74 articles found), review of the „Olympia Zeitung“since 1936 (8 articles found) and review of Greek newspapers since 1936 (4 articles found). Methodologically, all the information found in scientific or popular publications was systematized by using content analysis, comparative analysis, and critical analysis. The keywords used to search for information on the topic were: Olympic Flame, Olympic Flame Torch, Olympic Games 1936, and Olympic symbols. For the aim of the research we used data retrieved from Journal of Olympic History, Journal of the History of Sport, International Olympic Academy, Olympic Review, www.academia.edu, as well as books and publications pre-served in the historical archive of National Sports Academy “Vassil Levski”, the Central National Archive, the Regional archives, and the regional history museums in the towns where the Olympic flame went through. In the unfavorable material and economic conditions in the 1930s our country created an excellent organization and turned this event into one of the most important social-cultural phenomena, which influenced the new perception about the role and significance of the Olympic Games and amateur sport.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT The National Sports Academy “V. Levski” – the sports university of Bulgaria, has almost 80 years of history and state accreditation for the education of coaches in more than 76 sports, physical education teachers, kinesitherapy, and sport animation specialists. The course program includes a total of 12 hours of lectures, and 5 hours of practical seminars per day every day. The aim of our research was to study the influence of the “Snow Sports” course on the students from the National Sports Academy “V. Levski”, in terms of its social, psychological, physiological, training, and educational impact. Results: The research includes an inquiry with students who had already completed their education in the “Snow Sports” course, aged between 19 - 25. The greater part of them had no preliminary experience in Snow Sports, and they made their first steps in skiing and snowboarding at the course. However, after finishing the course, a great number of them chose to continue with additional education in snow sports. The students gave a positive self-evaluation of their physical and mental health after the end of the course, and they reported an improvement in their general well-being. The study also takes into account the acquired knowledge and skills in snow sports, in safety rules, and in environmental protection requirements. As a result, students gain confidence that they have developed new training and leadership qualities, giving them the opportunity to practice another new profession. On the basis of these results, we have reasons to assume, that this form of education in snow sports has a multi-aspectual impact on the students. This assumption strengthens our conviction, that snow sports could have a wide application, not only in the education and training of young people but also in their socialization.

Abstract:
The Geo-mapping for Energy and Minerals (GEM) program (2010-2020) provided a unique opportunity to advance the current level of understanding of the geological history of the Canadian North. In this contribution, based on the Trans-GEM Event Stratigraphy activity, a compilation of Mesozoic-Cenozoic stratigraphic data from across the GEM program regions and beyond is presented, with a focus on biostratigraphic events, using TimeScale Creator, a JAVA package that facilitates the compilation and comparison of large amounts of stratigraphic data while keeping track of changing absolute ages. The '2020 Canada datapack', which incorporates some information re-evaluated and refined from an earlier datapack, includes schemes using dinoflagellate cysts, spores and pollen, foraminifers and conodonts, and a new synthesis of Canadian Arctic Jurassic ammonite and Buchia bivalve biostratigraphy. This datapack will continue to be augmented after completion of the GEM program and will become a major tool in supporting an understanding of Canada's sedimentary basins, their resource potential and management.

Abstract:
In the article investigational three magazines which went out after Second World war in Germany and Austria in the environment of the Ukrainian emigrants, is «Theater» (edition of association of artists of the Ukrainian stage), «Student flag» (a magazine of the Ukrainian academic young people is in Austria), «Young friends» (a plastoviy magazine is for senior children and youth). The thematic structure of magazines, which is inferior the association of different on age, is considered, by vital experience and professional orientation of people in the conditions of the forced emigration, paid regard to graphic registration of magazines, which, without regard to absence of the proper publisher-polydiene bases, marked structuralness and expressiveness. A repertoire of periodicals of Ukrainian migration is in the American, English and French areas of occupation of Germany and Austria after Second world war, which consists of 200 names, strikes the tipologichnoy vseokhopnistyu and testifies to the high intellectual level of the moved persons, desire of yaknaynovishe, to realize the considerable potential in new terms with hope on transference of the purchased experience to Ukraine. On ruins of Europe for two-three years the network of the press, which could be proud of the European state is separately taken, is created. Different was a period of their appearance: from odnogo-dvokh there are to a few hundred numbers, that it is related to intensive migration of Ukrainians to the USA, Canada, countries of South America, Australia. But indisputable is a fact of forming of conceptions of newspapers and magazines, which it follows to study, doslidzhuvati and adjust them to present Ukrainian realities. Here not superfluous will be an example of a few editions on the thematic range of which the names – «Plastun» specify, «Skob», «Mali druzi», «Sonechko», «Yunackiy shliah», «Iyzhak», «Lys Mykyta» (satire, humour), «Literaturna gazeta», «Ukraina і svit», «Ridne slovo», «Hrystyianskyi shliah», «Golos derzhavnyka», «Ukrainskyi samostiynyk», «Gart», «Zmag» (sport), «Litopys politviaznia», «Ukrains’ka shkola», «Torgivlia i promysel», «Gospodars’ko-kooperatyvne zhyttia», «Ukrainskyi gospodar», «Ukrainskyi esperantist», «Radiotehnik», «Politviazen’», «Ukrainskyi selianyn» Considering three riznovektorni magazines «Teatr» (edition of Association Mistciv the Ukrainian Stage), «Studentskyi prapor» (a magazine of the Ukrainian academic young people is in Austria), «Yuni druzi» (a plastoviy magazine is for senior children and youth) assert that maintenance all three magazines directed on creation of different on age and by the professional orientation of national associations for achievement of the unique purpose – cherishing and maintainance of environments of ukrainstva, identity, in the conditions of strange land. Without regard to unfavorable publisher-polydiene possibilities, absence of financial support and proper encouragement, release, followed the intensive necessity of concentration of efforts for achievement of primary purpose – receipt and re-erecting of the Ukrainian State.

Harms, Nathan, and Judy Shearer. Spatial and temporal variability of the Alligatorweed pathogen, Alternaria alternantherae, in Louisiana. Engineer Research and Development Center (U.S.), May 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.21079/11681/44402.

Full text
Abstract:
Alligatorweed leaf spot is a disease of invasive Alternanthera philoxeroides (Alligatorweed) in the southern US, caused by Alternaria alternantherae. However, little is known about when or where this pathogen naturally occurs. To better understand this species’ life history, we examined temporal (every 2–3 weeks) and spatial (latitudinal) patterns of A. alternantherae occurrence at sites in Louisiana for 2 y. Pathogen presence reflected clear within-year temporal and spatial patterns. Overall, the percentage of leaves infected with A. alternantherae was low during spring each year (0–20% infected) but increased throughout summer (maximum of 50% infected), and plants in northern sites had lower frequency of infection relative to southern sites until later in the year (late summer/early fall) but only in 1 of the 2 years of our study. The mean proportion of leaves infected with A. alternantherae declined with latitude both years (P = 0.01) and variability increased with latitude (P = 0.04), a pattern suggestive of range limitation in northern areas. We estimate a northern distributional limit of 34°N for A. alternantherae in Louisiana, but Alligatorweed occurs farther north. Although we did not directly examine disease impacts to Alligatorweed during the study, they may be greatest in southern areas, where the pathogen is more common early and throughout the growing season, and thus may be less likely to provide control in northern infestations of the invasive Alligatorweed.
