As a prominent indicator of the French school system's structural problems, France’s public authorities' willingness to take action in order to reduce inequalities in schools and to include all school-going groups finds itself up against school management policies and concrete organizational difficulties. This situation raises the issues of what training and practices teachers have when they are confronted with students' heterogeneity and the multiple contexts in which they practice their profession. This research paper aims to contribute to the study of primary school teachers, especially those in charge of specialized help for students in great difficulty, by shedding light on the social influences involved in professional trajectories and the logic behind training in lifelong learning. It is based on the lessons learned from an observation survey (direct, participatory and peripheral), a follow-up of two groups of teachers in training who were the subjects of a case study and nearly two hundred interviews. Its methodology is original for sociology because it integrates a collection of twenty-five professional real-life stories of specialized teachers. Its data was cross-referenced on content analysis scales using studies and statistics, training programs, reports and official texts. In order to identify its specificity, it seeks to characterize the problems encountered by teachers who will reposition themselves according to their students’ needs (pedagogical, educational, social support). Thus a certain logic of action and training emerges that will exert an influence on the biographical trajectory of the individuals involved

Person concerned by the autistic syndrom are the heart of this study. Parents who have been through a difficult social and personal story and autistic people are witnessing here. They are a minority but they merit our attention. From what they say, we can observe the reality of their parental, clinical and educational capacity for being around very different children. They show the reality of a true survey in the knowledge of autism, not acknowledged yet. On a collective Historical background, not only Autism s'History but also parents's relationships to professionals as well, these stories have their own dynamism. For once, the characters of these stories are not only shown as suffering subjects to help, nor spoken and thought by others. Their point of view is shown and analysed under their controle, according to some life stories practices

The goal of this research is to analyze the theory and method of the Existentialism of J. P. Sartre for the development of a biographical approach in the field of career guidance. We propose with this work to examine to what extent the approach sartreana prorposciona a biographical Research Advancement in order to help the person to lie as subject of their history vis-à-vis socio-historical conditions,, as well as in consideration of the role of the profession within the set of personality for the future. The biographical approach was built in the field of vocational guidance during the years 80. Their integration was characterised by the attempt to overcome the initial proposition, since the development of industrial capitalism, focused on the extent of human skills to find the right place for the subject in the world of work. (Guichad Huteau, 2007). Contributing to the construction of a new perspective to the field, the biographical approach inuagurada by G. Francequin (2004) seeks to integrate the personal history of subject to the professional choice, considering the determinants of mental and social situation. In this sense, it is mainly from the Clinical Sociology and particularly the perspective developed by Vincent de Gaulejac, that Francequin is the theoretical and methodological bases for the development of a perspective biografica in op

The process of academizing the training for Physical Education (PE) teachers was completed with the French Act of July 16, 1984 on the organisation and promotion of sports and physical exercises, (Savary’s Act) which established the UFR STAPS. However, the first mixed competitive exam to qualify as a PE teacher was only set up a few years later, during the 1989 session. As we took into account these elements, we thought it would be interesting to question two samples of PE teachers. On the one hand, we examined PE teachers who were in CREPS, in IREPS or in UEREPS before 1975 and, on the other hand, we questioned those who benefited from a university degree, in STAPS followed by professional training in IUFM after 1989. In other words, we collected the testimonies of PE teachers who benefited from two very different trainings: before and after the creation of faculties dedicated to Sports and Exercise sciences in France. Moreover, as the old training system was sex based and as the new training scheme is mixed-sex, we felt that it was necessary to question a sample of professionals while considering the gender parity factor. Therefore, the professional identity construction, according to the view of Belkaïd (1999), is interesting to consider. Through the analysis of professional life stories, our approach is both qualitative and comparative, and, in addition to “reconstruct career paths, which led, at different times, individuals to take up PE teaching career” (Michon et Caritey, 1998), our aim is to reveal distinctive features of the professional identity of PE teachers at a specific period. Our goal is thus to ask the following question: is it the same job?
Didier, Christelle. "Éthique et identités professionnelles des ingénieurs : enquête sur les diplômés des écoles du Nord de la France." Paris, EHESS, 2002. http://www.theses.fr/2002EHES0098.
The first part studies the emergence of ethics in the engineering profession and the development of ethics courses. But discourses and educational projects are only indicators. So, having clarified the limits of engineering ethics, an inquiry was set up with graduated engineers to study their ethical concerns. Firstly, it seems that this one is determined by the professional identity of the engineers. Secondly, although the engineers’ ethics also depends on their political attitudes, it seems that in the end the vision of the majority is technocratic and that the position of the engineers, often at distance of the res publica, leaves them away from a major concern of the ethics of technology: technology assessment. Thirdly, the ethics of the engineers seems to depend on religious attitudes. Catholics defend professional ethics, but their high confidence in technology makes them take little attention to the question of the risk assessment

This qualitative study examines early motherhood and the changing personal, family, educational and professional life trajectories of twelve young women who had their first child before their 25th birthday. This thesis project on the experience of early motherhood is guided by a specific question: What are mothers' perceptions of the role of their maternity considered as early on their personal, educational, professional and family life trajectories? The analytical framework chosen for this thesis is that of life course theory. Thus, to better understand the participants' life course, three key moments were examined: before pregnancy, during pregnancy and at birth and after pregnancy. This distinction made it possible to see the influences that led to a change in the life trajectories of these young women. The thematic analysis of qualitative data based on the meeting of twelve young mothers in semi-structured interviews made it possible to explore, based on their perception, what characterizes their experience and how their life trajectories evolved as a result of this event. The results of this thesis show that the maternity experience of her young women influences their life trajectories, but that there are also other factors that influence the evolution of these life trajectories. The results also show that children are a driving force for change for these women.

This research, emanating from the field of the Human Sciences in sciences of education, uses the hermeneutic approach in a movement where the biographic process allows the nurse to be seen in the narrative of the interviews, and to observe the nurse, as caregiver in a body-to-body relation with the patients. This thought concerns the paradox of the nurse body in her/his activity inside the places of care including general-purpose reanimation, adult psychiatry and geriatrics. Therefore, this thesis, taking its theoretical roots from the concept of biographisation, will attempt to show how the complexities and the paradoxes of the human body physical presence enable the observation of that which this unspoken by the nurse who becomes a professional caregiver

This study fits into the fields of social and labour history. The paths, experiences and lifestyles of merchant seafarers during the 18th century are at the heart of this research. We have adopted here an interdisciplinary approach and extended our questions to other Social sciences such as sociology and anthropology. By placing the actors of merchant navigations at the centre of our reflexion, we have sought to understand what it meant to be a sailor at that time. We also questioned the specificities and permanencies of Sea labour in Provence during the 18th century. The boundaries of this activity are still unclear and we believe it is important to better define them. As a professional exercise marked by uncertainty, seafaring required a constant adaptation by the people who practiced it. To better understand the living and working conditions of these men, and to question the ways they perceived them, we followed their paths, at sea, aboard ships and during stopovers, as well as on land, in their families and in various Provence’s communities such as Marseille, Martigues and Cannes. The professional and extra-professional practices of these men allowed them to negotiate the rules and conditions of their daily work. Eventually, their individual and collective experiences have contributed to the very definition of seafaring at that time

Inter-organizational mobility leads to the multiplication of work experiences, and to maintain their employability, employees must ensure the coherence of this professional path. To account for this, to themselves and their employers, employees are required to develop their professional biographies (Pineau & Le Grand, 2013). We can observe a biographical phenomenon linked to inter-organizational mobility. This research proposes an experiential approach to inter-organizational mobility based on Dewey's pragmatic philosophy (2010). Our research analyses twenty-one cases of professional biographies of individuals who want to leave their company or who have just left it. The objective is to understand, from the individual's point of view, how the biographical work inherent in inter-organizational mobility is developed. The research presents the development of this process in two stages: the time of rebuilding the experience and the time of developing the future experience. This transition to subsequent experience is the result of a valuation process involving the dimensions of current and future work experience. This research shows how the value sources of work experience are first problematized, then revised and created for the future

The careers of executives are a recurring subject of research. Wether career is apprehended in an organizational context or outside organization, it is diverse, influenced by the contexts and professional transitions. This thesis uses a qualitative approach of career paths of executives who experienced many professional career transitions. Men and women interviewed were all involved in an accompanying program offered by a non-profit organization during their last professional transition. We met them after this transition: they all found jobs. Our research sought to understand their career paths, the way they rebounded from career setbacks, their successive professional career transitions. This research has several advantages for both the researcher and the manager. First, we identified the main determinants of professional transitions in the trajectories. Then, by using a questionnaire on career anchors we defined groups of executives based on their dominant anchors

This research, built around a hundred interviews of professional social workers, aims to shed light on the relation between the professional attitudes that this particular category adopt and their individual experiences outside the workplace. Starting from an inductive methodology inspired by the Grounded theory of GLASER & STRAUSS we have been able to identify and extract a principal and dominating category. Explained briefly, this work draws attention to the fact that in a large number of specific cases, implying professional situations carrying a significant emotional degree, social workers may find themselves heavily destabilized when confronted with resonance from elements of their own personal life. Moreover, this element seems to carry an interpretative connotation of a confusing or an inappropriate nature (especially when fitted into a psychoanalytic framework) and this factor has lead us to restructure the conceptualisation under the term of biographical resonance, which in turn allows us to incorporate our findings into the framework of DELORY-MOMBERGER’s general theory of biographisation

Professional reconversion poses the question of the process of biographisation and definition of self in an original way. In this context, our research seeks to understand how individuals cope with this landmark change that was hence constructed. The theory of personal myth, prominent in North American studies in developmental psychology though hardly known in France, offers a heuristic framework to study the psychosocial resources that individuals dispose of to face these changes. This thesis, inscribed in an anthropological and hermeneutical perspective of the biographical research in education, is thus interested in the modalities of subjectivation of the course of professional reconversion by questioning the links between narration and biography of the life story. It is supported by a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary theoretical corpus that seeks to create a dialogue with educational research with some contributions from developmental psychology, psychoanalysis and social sciences, to access the process of constructing the subject's experience

The economic and social changes of contemporary societies are based on the observation of an inevitable demographic dynamic and on the construction of a particular economic paradigm: on the one hand, the aging of the population, and on the other hand, the importance of innovation as a source of economic growth. The economic paradigm of innovation has been developing since the 1970s, growing from a central preoccupation in large firms, into a larger framework for the development of entrepreneurship more generally, even at a regional level. At the same time, public policies supporting the elderly initially set up during the 20th century for purposes of social protection, have increasingly privileged the initiatives and the development of private actors, thus encouraging the development of the silver economy. It is therefore in light of the interweaving of these two social dynamics that this thesis has sought to study the career paths of innovative entrepreneurs in the aging sector through a qualitative analysis of biographical stories. In an interactionist perspective, and based on the structural analysis of Demazière and Dubar (1997), the thesis studies the links between the operative logics pursued by silver-economy entrepreneurs on the one hand, as shaped by their professional trajectories and by their representations, and on the other hand, the macroeconomic challenges which characterize these logics and these representations. Based on this analysis, the thesis sheds light upon both the contributions and the limits of relevant structuralist methodology of analysis

The focus of the thesis is the study of a support mechanism for employee mobility in a former state owned public administration that became a limited company. Carried out in the financial centres of La Banque Postale, the ethnographic inquiry combines qualitative interviews with workplace observations in order to analyse both career mobility as a subjective combination of life sequences, and professional mobility as a way of managing people in a firm in a state of transformation. In a context where both employment policies and human resources management systems tend towards individualized actions (Gazier, 2010), the thesis offers an analysis of professional mobility within an organized and structured context that highlights the normative nature of an injunction to self-realization through work. It emphasizes the multidimensional nature of bargainings involved in the course of mobility (on a biographical level, on the use - and misuse - of management tools, on the role played by managers or the collective framework negotiated by Trade Unions). Thus, the thesis dissolves the dichotomous categories used to describe professional careers (imposed or chosen mobility) by showing that so-called imposed mobility can be the expression of true career choices to serve a life project and that so-called chosen mobility may be fundamentally constraining. Finally, the thesis shows that the relationship maintained by individuals with their career and the use they make of professional mobility as a tool in order to achieve it, is far more decisive

The importance of exploring the life and works of Paul Nothomb is threefold : at the same time historical, literary and philosophical. To talk about Paul Nothomb's life and books is to think 20th century, to think history, to think literature and religion. This threefold interest fits schematically with the three major personal stages of the life of the writer. First to his commitment in the Spanish war, then in this involvement in the French Resistance during World War II and finally to his literary vocation in the after war years and his hermaneutic study and first chapter of the Genesis. The later commitment concentrated most of this thoughts since early seventies. Hence, the life and works of Paul Nothomb appear fascinating. Inextricably bound together, they seem to sum up the physical and spiritual life of a man of our century, his ambitions, his actions and doubts. In other words, a synthetic adventure of te 20th century

Life is a multidimensional and personnal process which evolves according to the personnal development and outstanding events which determine its course. When a person is asked to tell the story of his life, he relates personal, social and professional events determined by an interaction between herself and the author. The most significant facts are the reconstructed in a chronological and coherent manner. The present study is based upon the analysis of 173 life stories from men and women aged 25, 40 and 55 years. Three different methods are used for linguistic, sociolgical and psychological analysis. The question is wether the life thorough analysis of several stories allows one to observe the interactions between the significant factors and identify the underlying logic of each one

This thesis is based on the Social Representation theory. Starting with interviews of French nurses (N=29) and Gabonese nurses (N=23), we focused on the comparative social representations of both the profession of a nurse and the family. We then proceeded with a questionnaire composed of free association tasks, of a specific tool measuring the dominant type of practice and the SWING. 103 French nurses and 140 Gabonese nurses filled in this questionnaire. The results show a distinct representation of the profession according to the culture. The French nurses focus on the importance of the relationship that needs to be establishes with the patients, while the Gabonese nurses add to this the need for affection. The nurses were separated into contrasted groups according to the scores obtained both in terms of dominant practices 5technical or related to relations) and according to their life balance type. The social representation of the profession, which was studied for each of these contrasted groups, appears to be clearly different according to both variables. Moreover, in terms of the social representations of the family, a significant distinctions appears based on the two cultures: the French participants perceive the nuclear family, while the Gabonese participants combine the traditional family with the new model, close to the French nuclear one.Key words: Social Representations; Nurses; Life Balance; Healing; France; Gabon.Université de Reims Champagne-Ardenne - Laboratoire EA 6291 - C2S -Bâtiment 13 Recherche - 57 rue Pierre Taittinger - 51100 REIMS

This thesis is based on a qualitative and comparative study carried out in two Very smallbusinesses (less than ten (10) employees) and two Big businesses (more than five thousand(5.000) employees). The objective is to understand and explain, on the one hand, howprofessional stress is built up according to the size of the company and, on the other hand, thedrivers or constraints to the prevention and management of stress in businesses. I have therefore been interested in socio-professional representations of stress, social relations withinthe company and the expression or not of grievance. I also study forms of pain management atwork and conflicts regulation. Analyzing collective and individual expectations as well as thelife stories of workers confronted with similar realities but reacting differently, made itpossible to learn lessons about workers relationship to discontent. This research has shown that, contrary to what one might think, it is not so much the problemsto be managed which differ according to the business size but the ways to build, regulate andlive with these issues

Consequently, in spite of collective conventions and other measuremnts in favour of employment, we were able to notice that firms pratices are not senseless when they sign on. Sometimes they belong to the realm of affective. In any case, these pratices change according to the origin of the firm's capital. Thereby, we can affirm that profesional insertion is also under the influence of sociocultural relational and psychological factors. In the second place, through conversation with students graduated from letters and social sciences, we were able to judge the incidence of several type of factors and distinguish some itineraries of insertion. The analysis of biographies they obtained, reveals that profesional insertion can be made as well on criterion of adherence to a group as to campetence while integrating the given informations on environment. This new problematic implies the existence of an individual strategy and fittings facing the social, cultural and economic environment

This PhD research aims at better understanding the link between work life balance policies and gender equality in the workplace. The objective is to understand how these measures can influence sexual roles division at work.By referring to the theoretical framework of social perceptions, our work is based on two main case studies, with 44 semi-oriented interviews “major tool to identify perceptions”, as the main method to collect data. We chose to conduct the two case studies in two different countries: France and Spain, because of their contrasted approach towards work life balance topic: rather traditional for France, more intrusive and individualized for Spain. The results highlight the heterogeneity and the gendered character of the employees’ perceptions of work life balance policies; those ones also appear to be strongly connected to the manager behavior and its management style. The categorization of perceptions (progressist/ traditionalist/ neutral/ hostile) contributes to a better understanding of their influence on gender equality, and reveals that inequalities awareness –stronger amongst Spanish employees- is a prior condition for a more equal work life balance
Lepetit, Marie-Laure. "La parole polémique chez Cicéron : histoire d'une vie." Paris 4, 2004. http://www.theses.fr/2004PA040013.
The Antiquity knew the concept of polemic : if Rome allows, under some very well established circumstances insolent and unrestrained words, the law doesn't allow to commit either verbal or written personnal attacks. Nevertheless, although polemic maintains strong connection with oratorical art, it is not represented in any antique rhetoric treaty, it is a never agreed gender, with never fixed rules, as if the Ancients were ignoring or willing to ignore it. The stylistic studies of various Cicero's texts, political discourses and advocate's pleas, philosophical treaties and the intimate letters to friends and family, allowed us to highlight the originality of the polemic discourse compared to blame or invective. So could we achieve a rhetorical definition of polemic. Three main characteristics have been identified. Polemic is in constant metamorphosis, so there is not one type of polemical discourse but various polemical situations. Moreover, this complexity creates a monstruous character which prevents to settle inside the antique rhetoric system and obliges to always escape. This why the polemical discourse is not linked to the rhetoric of evidence but to a rhetoric of the implicit, of twilight

The subject of this research is the relation of the placed-child to the separating-event which is the reason why he has been placed and is considered for the child as a sanction for which he has be blamed. Children who have been placed, who are out-placed to be placed again do not most of the time understand nothing to the way their existence is evolving; they have been losing their affective and temporal marks, and do not ask for (therapeutic) care but for understand (in the socratic meaning: take care of oneself) of their worries related to the fact they exist. The life story is a search and a building up of meaning which is possible thanks to the analysis of facts and personal as well as family temporal events, but so far this has been seldom used with children; we have tried implement this method with placed children. This method has enhanced the process of re-building and has encouraged them to start working on the consequences on themselves of what they have been undergoing in their lives. This throught a building-break- rebuilding process and the situation of co-investment which creates a link between the speaker and the interlocutor. We have carried out a comprehensive survey based on three stories of placed children, on the stories’ structure and on these children's evolution all along their relating their stories and their analysing their statements. This survey fits in with the life history and the clinic sociology field which refers to the linking of the social and the psychic. This history of life is interpreted as a tool of historicity, of work on one's history, to build up its meaning and direction. Through the relating of their story these three children have been able to cope with the contradictions they have been faced with in their lives. They have intended to give a meaning to these contradictions thanks to the linking they have been able to make between the events and the people in their lives. They have become aware that they were not responsible for the separation which was due to their parent's personal, family or social difficulties. We have been considering the experience of the story telling as the main line in the building of identity; the building of identity is possible thanks to the link the child sets up between the psychic and the social dimensions of his life. Thanks to having related their lifes and having been wondering

Lifelong learning (LLL) is one of the major objectives of the new reform of initial vocational training in Tunisia (2016-2020).However, the continuing vocational training system in its training engineering has been based on the competency-based approach (CBA) for two decades, in this framework we interrogate the links between the fundamentals and the practices of this approach and the aims of the LLL, notably at the level of the conceptual and theoretical foundations, the development of training programs and the practices of evaluation of learning outcomes.Based on a conceptual framework built around professional didactics and cognitive psychology, and on the basis of qualitative research with an exploratory scope, we seek to show whether it is consistent to develop the LLL, which comes from a specific frame of reference, on the basis of the CBA, which is, moreover, the product of another reference framework, or whether there are limits and even ambiguities and contradictions. The results of our research show the existence of certain tensions between the aims of the LLL and the practices of the CBE

It is acknowledged that the employment of adults with trisomy 21 (AT21) is beneficial in terms of autonomy and quality of life. While the issue is becoming more and more topical - most notably as a result of increased life expectancy - the employment of AT21s is also described as particularly difficult by workers in the field and has received little attention from researchers, especially not when seen in the specific context of the AT21s' cognitive abilities. The primary objective of this work is therefore to evaluate the cognitive abilities of AT21s (memory, language, reading, data processing and autonomy), their quality of life and that of their family depending on their type of employment. The sample comprises 32 AT21s aged from 20 to 35, equally divided between 4 living environments - sheltered or ordinary employment vs. occupational centres or return to a home environment - and members of their families (57 parents and 43 siblings). For each of the abilities studied, essential results show quantitative differences depending on the type of living environment, but the cognitive profile of AT21s appears very homogeneous. If there is a global connexion between employment and quality of life, this connexion is neither simple nor direct and requires an understanding of the dynamic interplay of work environment, the abilities of the subjects and specific family situations

This research aims to understand the use of spiritual kinship in Lyons during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries with a double context: urban population was in expansion while the Catholic Reformation was pre-eminent. The setting of this study is the parish of Saint-Nizier, which was located right in the town centre and presented real social variety. We want to investigate the complexity of social relationships and the flexibility of godparenthood, the strategies and behaviours which can be detected, thanks to precise social analyses. The main source is the parish registers. This research also aspires to call attention to the richness that spiritual relationships provide in urban social history. This classic source allows us to tackle religious history from a social point of view

Given its Catholic network and French-German bilingualism, the University of Fribourg has long been among the most international in Switzerland. Beginning in the 1960's, the Helvetic Confederation opened a preparatory school for university study, envisioning an international student body for which a secondary, or high school, diploma would not be recognized abroad (CIUS). In 2011, the closure of this school was symptomatic of a change in the profile of the foreign student in Switzerland: the student, having typically arrived from countries considered both exotic and distant – enrolled in a bachelor degree for long term study in the role of a free mover without the assistance of financial aid scholarships– gradually bequeathed this position to a new kind of student, a western student, who arrived as part of exchange programs like Erasmus. Having previously examined the role of the short-term transitory student in various studies based on real-life accounts, in this dissertation I examine the following question: How does the role of the ex-transitory student, who has decided to pursue his academic studies in Switzerland and to afterward remain there as a highly qualified graduate, differ in relation to the manner in which we can discuss the position of an Erasmus student? This study is grounded in the field of foreign language education. It is a qualitative study guided by an anthropological perspective, though my research methods additionally draw from other similar disciplines such as semiotics and narratology. My theoretical frame focuses on the transitory student in addition to highly qualified migrants, two limited sociological roles that my interviewees have already or will soon experience. Moreover, this frame will concentrate on the relationship between the account and the fabrication of identity in the context of mobility. Methodologically speaking, in this study, I consider the real-life account of experience as the product of a particular kind of vocalization: that of organizing recollections – of the former self or selves – according to an image of the self in the present, that constructs itself in response to the questions advanced in the interview. This self-portrait, crafted the participants, will recall the eclipsed voice of the absent third-party participant, discussed and recreated within the discussion. The first component of analysis examines the establishment of a discursive landscape addressing the question of foreign students, or those that are highly qualified and employed in Switzerland, through the study of a body of journalistic articles. The second step is closely tied to the corpus of real-life accounts and has the objective of understanding the methods for representing the self (and the other) for each of the narrators. The final conclusive step will transversally address this corpus in order to observe – in context – the typologies of narrators: what are the echoes, if any, between the representation of the foreign student, or graduate, within the media as well as within real-life accounts? Finally, the performative nature of the research plan is questioned, in order to understand if the account of “installation” via academic studies can be taken into consideration as a specific account of mobility

In the first part, to improve our knowledge of the members of this parliament and the world they lived in, we have studied their cultural, economic and family background, as well as their office and their work. Judging from the documents we have been able to study, the members chose this particular office not because of the financial advantages they might obtain from it, but mainly for the prestige that came along with it. Indeed not anybody could accede to this station, and informal barriers as well as inviaible bridges were set up to maintain a certain level of cooptation, all the more so as the office thus acquired and fulfilled allowed the member to get acceed to nobility. The parliament is therefore socially quite homogeneous, all the more as it is strongly endogamous. It emerges that this group had a strengthh and coherence that must have helped it in its ambitions. That is why the second part consists of an appraisal of the relations between the compagnie and the various agents of power -both local and national-, to figure out their actual authority, and an analysis of the compagnie's specific functions. It appears that from the point of view of the royal administration, the parliament should have had no more than the rank of a departmental court accompanied with limited powers to make regional regulations and an optional counselling function. Yet, this is not what its members expected their functions to be. This explains why they developped "democratic" theories which undermined the french monarchic organisation but at the same time eroded the parliament's own legitimacy. Neither the members of the parliament nor their citizens seem to have been aware of this process which resulted in an escalation of affairs, each leading to more and more contestation and ending in the demand for the meeting of the states general. To conclude, it makes no doubt that the failure of the members and of the parliament of bordeaux is due to their opposition to the forces that were to gradually influence and dominate the course of french history. This institution was both too old and too sclerosed to get over the hurdle of 1789, which is also a revolution in intellectual thought. From that point, society came back to an elitism based upon individual merit. The buying of offices, and therefore wealth and family ties were no longer relevant in this new system. At that point

This thesis surveys the vast literature on the school to work transition and the methods used to explain this transition as a process. The first part considers theorical analysis in the study of transitions in youth. More precisely, it compares theorical and empirical studies about transitions in youth in relation with human capital, job search, and labor market segmentation theories. The second part examines the determinant of "successful" transitions with a longitudinal survey. We focuse on the role of the characteristics of the young school leavers (niveau IV) compared to the experience obtained from their history on the labour market

Domestic violence affects the health of individuals, influences their behaviour in the workplace, and impacts organisations. In addition to financial loss, it contributes to emphasize gender inequalities, especially within the professional sphere. Througha typology of the implications of domestic violence, this exploratory research examines the processes in motion during the interactions of victims with their professional environment, and how organisations can respond to the manifestations of this phenomenon which occurs within the family sphere. It is based on a double conceptual framework: domestic violence and work-family articulation. Field access relies on a combination of qualitative methods: 47 interviews (semi-directive individual and collective interviews, life histories) lead with victims as well as with representatives of non-mercantile organisations (associations, Kering Foundation, conseil général de l’Essonne) and businesses (PSA Peugeot-Citroën, BPI group).Besides this innovative theoretical anchoring, the results have allowed the emergence of a model that articulates the family determinant (acts of physical, psychological, and economic violence), the work-family relationship (spill over, conflict, and compensation) as well as the three main organisational effects (decrease in concentration, change in behaviour, and over investment in work). Amongst those three manifestations, the decrease in concentration (negative spill over) and the over investment in work (compensation) are significant elements in terms of the number of people concerned; the change in behaviour (negative spill over) represents a remarkable variable because of its unexplored character. Following logics of integration or respect, the organisations are likely to contribute to reducing the difficulties posed by these interferences, thus receiving economic and managerial benefits. The contributions of the study are found on several levels: on one hand it imports into France the issue of the organisational implications of domestic violence, and on the other, it positions it within the theoretical framework of the work-family relationship
