Abstract:
The product is a white or yellow powder in appearance, odorless or tasteless. The substance has high thermal and salt resistance, does not contain toxins. If the reagent is introduced into the aqueous phase of the solution, it acts as a thickener and helps to reduce the filtration rate. The moisture content of the substance is less than 10 percent. The material complies with international standards for this substance.

Abstract:
I examine some of the evidence relevant to the idea that high-velocity clouds (HVCs) are gas clouds distributed throughout the Local Group, as proposed by Blitz et al. (1999) and Braun & Burton (1999). This model makes several predictions: a) the clouds have low metallicities; b) there should be no detectable Hα emission; c) analogues near other galaxies should exist; and d) many faint HVCs in the region around M 31 can be found. Low metallicities are indeed found in several HVCs, although they are also expected in several other models. Hα emission detected in most HVCs and, when examined more closely, distant (D>200 kpc) HVCs should be almost fully ionized, implying that most HVCs with H I must lie near the Milky Way. No clear extragalactic analogues have been found, even though the current data appear sensitive enough. The final prediction (d) has not yet been tested. on balance there appears to be no strong evidence for neutral gas clouds distributed throughout the Local Group, but there may be many such clouds within 100 or so kpc from the Milky Way (and M31). on the other hand, some (but not all) of the high-velocity O VI recently discovered may originate in hot gas distributed throughout the Local Group.

Abstract:
Evaluation of observed sea level rise impacts to date has emphasized sea level extremes, such as those from tropical cyclones. Far less is known about the consequences of more frequent high-tide flooding. Empirical analysis of the disruption caused by high-tide floods, also called nuisance or sunny-day floods, is challenging due to the short duration of these floods and their impacts. Through a novel approach, we estimate the effects of high-tide flooding on local economic activity. High-tide flooding already measurably affects local economic activity in Annapolis, Maryland, reducing visits to the historic downtown by 1.7% (95% confidence interval, 1.0 to 2.6%). With 3 and 12 inches of additional sea level rise, high-tide floods would reduce visits by 3.6% (3.2 to 4.0%) and 24% (19 to 28%), respectively. A more comprehensive understanding of the impacts of high-tide flooding can help to guide efficient responses from local adaptations to global mitigation of climate change.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of the paper is to compare losses and temperatures in power transformer tanks for different high current lead arrangements. Design/methodology/approach – 3D computational tools MagNet and ThermNet based on the finite element method are used to calculate magnetic field distribution in 3D models of power transformers. Eddy current losses in conducting metal parts are induced by the stray magnetic field of transformer windings and high current leads. From loss distribution and appropriate cooling condition temperature values are calculated. Findings – From calculation results it is possible to understand advantages and disadvantages of different lead arrangements. The analysis is finalized with a short presentation of the influence of magnetic shielding height on temperature and loss values. Originality/value – Results give transformer designer clearer understanding of precautions that should be taken for avoiding high temperatures on the tank wall of a transformer.

Abstract:
AbstractWe study the metallicity calibrations in high-redshift galaxies using a sample of local analogs of high-redshift galaxies selected from the SDSS survey. Located in the same region on the BPT diagram as star-forming galaxies at z ∼ 2, these high-redshift analogs share the same ionized ISM conditions as high-redshift galaxies. We establish empirical metallicity calibrations between the direct gas-phase oxygen abundances and varieties of metallicity indicators in our local analogs using direct Te method. These new metallicity calibrations are the best means to measure the metallicity in high-redshift galaxies. There exist significant offsets between these new high-redshift metallicity calibrations and local calibrations. Such offsets are mainly driven by the evolution of the ionized ISM conditions from high-z to low-z.

Abstract:
Ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) is a kind of high-tech cementitious material with superb mechanical and durability properties compared to other types of concrete. However, due to the high content of cement and silica fume used, the cost and environmental impact of UHPC is considerably higher than conventional concrete. For this reason, several efforts around the world have been made to develop UHPC with greener and less expensive local pozzolans. This study aimed to design and produce UHPC using local fly ash available in Colombia. A numerical optimization, based on Design of Experiments (DoE) and multi-objective criteria, was performed to obtain a mixture with the proper flow and highest compressive strength, while simultaneously having the minimum content of cement. The results showed that, despite the low quality of local fly ashes in Colombia, compressive strength values of 150 MPa without any heat treatment can be achieved.
