Abstract:
Background:Few investigations have assessed in adolescent girls the cross-sectional and longitudinal associations between elevated exposure to electronic media (EM) and activity-related outcomes such as compliance with physical activity (PA) standards or cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF).Methods:Four-hundred thirty-seven white and African American girls were assessed at the 8th, 9th, and 12th grades. PA and EM (TV/video watching, electronic games, Internet use) were self-reported, and CRF was estimated using a cycle-ergometer test. Hi EM exposure was defined as ≥four 30-minute blocks/d.Results:8th-, 9th-, and 12th-grade girls in the Hi EM group showed lower compliance with PA standards and had lower CRF than the Low EM group (P ≤ .03). Girls reporting Hi EM exposure at 8th and 9th grades had lower vigorous PA and CRF levels at 12th grade than girls reporting less EM exposure (P ≤ .03).Conclusion:Girls reporting exposure to EM for 2 or more hours per day are more likely to exhibit and maintain low PA and CRF levels throughout adolescence. These results enhance the scientific basis for current public health recommendations to limit adolescent girls’ daily exposure to television, electronic games, and Internet use to a combined maximum of 2 hours.

Abstract:
The following essay aims to highlight the essential role of digital preservation to keep the documents of today available for tomorrow by studying and analizing one of its most important branches: web archiving. This one is a discipline that has its roots in Library Science and Information Science, and it is completely alien to the world of the archives in our country. The first part of this essay offers a brief overview on web archiving and, from an archival science point of view, will try to answer questions like: What is web archiving? What is it used for? When did it begin? Which organizations are putting it into practice? How can we capture and store a website? In the second part, we will try to think about the implementation of web archiving from the perspective of the archival science, who can take a step forward in its evolution by the accomplishment of this sort of challenges.

Abstract:
The music industry has experienced a major slump in sales of physical sound storage media such as the compact disc. Contrary to this, revenues gained in the online music sector doubled in 2006. In this growing industry digital standard formats and standard workflows in the electronic music distribution process could help companies to lower their costs and work more efficiently. This thesis provides a rough overview of the digital music distribution industry with a special focus on the business-to-business relationship between music aggregators and music download platforms. It aims to clarify whether standards regarding workflow, music data and music metadata exist. First, a review of literature is undertaken in order to gain knowledge about the social construction theory and actor network theory as well as facts and figures about the current digital music industry. Then five qualitative interviews are conducted with expert representatives of music aggregators and online music distributors. The interviews aim at identifying constraining closure mechanisms and uncovering details about the actors´ attitudes towards standardisation of workflows and data. The main outcome of the thesis is that there is a need for standardisation of music metadata, data processing and sales reporting procedures. The findings suggest that the most powerful actors in the music business, represented by the IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry), need to agree on international standards for the issues mentioned above. The findings also provide a list of starting points for further research and discussion about improvements in the digital music sector.

Abstract:
The current research conducted in traditional and digital media in Latin America, evidence that Ecuador, lacks content in terms of the application of the thematic agendas of the media and public opinion that is being generated in the country. In this sense, the present investigation is framed in the analysis of the criteria used by the digital newspaper ecuadorenvivo.com for the selection of the information it disseminates. Information was collected during 5 weeks, using the method of content analysis, applied in fact sheets that collect the most relevant points regarding the journalistic content of the news publications of a medium, in this specific case of digital type. For the analysis, the following variables were considered: origin of the information, nature of the sources and the protagonists, identification of the protagonists of the information, structure of the information and format of the news, treatment of the contents, focus, informational imbalances and the values that are transmitted. In the results of this investigation, the successes and shortcomings of the study medium are reflected, for a later analysis regarding the journalistic practice in Ecuador.

Abstract:
This chapter tracks how the rise of personal computers and electronic media led to the creation of the Internet and World Wide Web. The opener features the two Steves (Jobs and Wozniak) and the advent of the Apple II and even more influential Macintosh, even as the IBM PC and its clones dominated the personal computer market. Widespread adoption of the Internet opened the door to e-tailing in which Amazon has emerged as the ultimate engine of consumerism. Curiously, Jeff Bezos has modeled his retailing empire on the empire he threatens—Wal-Mart. From Sam Walton he adopted the idea of low prices, satisfying customer experiences, and technological innovation.
