Abstract:
The indexing of audiovisuals, subject of this investigation, is based on the indexing policy of one Library Information Unit, supported by the characteristics and goals of this Information Unit and on the identification of clients. The need to evaluate videos of arts’ indexing in an art and multimedia university library and the searching of methodologies for vocabulary control has led to this research. For this, it was selected a sample of videos of arts in the following genres: documentaries, movies and animated videoart. After, it was performed a search in a database to collect terms that were used for the indexing of each video. In addition, it was presented the synopsis of selected videos with the terms attributed by indexers for the analysis of three judges, professors of art history. Fifty terms were evaluated, and the judges added new fifty one descriptors and nineteen names of artists. From this, thirteen terms were considered unsuitable for the items indexed; one term was considered inappropriate for the area terminology; from the new terms added, thirty-six refer to geographical, chronological or historical modifiers. A handbook was created to guide the indexing and control the vocabulary.

Abstract:
The digitasation of radio is at a stage of underdevelopment in most European states. Standards like Digital Audio Broadcasting are commercially available since 1995, but penetration rates are still insignificant. This thesis aims to define a certain form of digital radio named Mobile Digital Radio – also referred to as Mobile Streaming Radio – and to evaluate it in relation to technical and economical criteria. Technical issues, like GPRS, UMTS and Streaming, which are prerequisites for Mobile Digital Radio serve as a starting point. In addition, information on other digital radio standards and judicial conditions for the operation of a Mobile Digital Radio service is given. Furthermore, existing business models, illustrated by Best Practice concepts and interviews with experts, are investigated in order to prove the hypothesis: Mobile Digital Radio offers added value to endusers in comparison to other forms of radio distribution. Following this concept, the thesis addresses mobile operators, which aim to strategically position themselves in the field of Mobile Music, as well as radio stations in search of new channels of distribution. The main findings suggest, that Mobile Digital Radio offers way more possibilities to enable value added radio services than other digital radio platforms. The use of existing network infrastructure keeps costs to a minimum and the adoption of streaming technology allows provision of nearly countless programs. Moreover radio stations are not restricted to geographical boarders. Besides the availibilty of a feedback channel makes promising applications possible, ranging from interactivity and personalisation to m-Commerce transactions.

Abstract:
This thesis aims to define and evaluate the role and design of digital information systems in museums. In order to do this, the study addresses the following topic areas: the tasks of museums as institutions for the public, the conception of digital information systems and the interdependencies between content structure and graphic design, illustrated by a practical example. Experiences made by European museums in digital media projects have served as a starting point. The report investigates the role of digital media as information mediators by looking at Human Computer Interaction and compares different models and structures used for computer-based information provision. In a second part, the thesis outlines the practical use of several theoretical aspects mentioned by presenting the design and evaluation approach carried out during the conception of the medien.matrix, a digital visitor information system at the Vienna Museum of Technology. The most significant results of the investigation can be summarized as follows: Museums primarily have an educational task to fulfill. Virtual information spaces cannot replace real exhibitions but can rather complement them, the only exception being virtual (online) museums, which lack physical objects. A graphic design can only provide didactic support if the content basis is clearly structured. The thesis concludes with some thoughts about the resources and factors which are vital for a future knowledge society.

Abstract:
The aim of this thesis is to create a quantitative overview of the current stock of audio and video materials in a selected number of institutions, and to show where the strengths and weaknesses, concerning digitalisation and long-term conservation, are. Another goal is to give a general overview of regional differences, how the institutions develop their collections, how the holdings are conserved for future availability and if they are available for everybody or for specific user-groups only. A summary at the end analyses the status quo of the selected institutions, and identifies problematic areas and future prospects in this field. The inquiry is concentrated on a selection of 110 archives, museums and collections all over Austria. The study was done by mail questionnaire, some with call back or additional personal interview. In conclusion, it was found that a lot of institutions in Austria are not digitizing their holdings, some do not know about the importance of digitisation at all and the possibility of long-term preservation is not provided. A couple of institutions do not even know about the dimension of the audio-visual stock in their archive. In most of these cases, a shortage of staff and lack of financial aid are the reason for this situation.

Abstract:
This thesis gives an overview on German film libraries, film archives, and other libraries with film information stock. Questionnaires were sent out to different institutions that deal with film in a broader sense. The methodic approaches for this study as well as the overview of film information stock in Germany, resulting from this analysis, are well documented. A number of non-German film institutions have been surveyed and described to compare handling of information stock in Germany and abroad. The presentation of informational institutions is followed by the attempt to systemize the different types of institutions and their various focal points in stock.

Lopez, André P. A. "As Razões e os sentidos: finalidades da produção documental e interpretação de conteúdos na organização arquivística de documentos imagéticos." Thesis, 2000. http://eprints.rclis.org/12862/1/Andr%C3%A9_tese.pdf.

Abstract:
Concerning many problems founded on the imagetic records organization, I intend to discuss the specificity of such material. The solution adopted by Brazilians archivists usually analyzes and organizes the records based only on the images subject description, abandoning the motives that were responsible for their generation as a record. Brazilian examples on holdings of this kind of records are put under suspicion when they are collated with the principles posed by the Archival Science. I assumed that archival records (writing or imagetic ones) are, in first place, registers of an administrative action, preserved to prove that this action was made instead of ready-made sources for historical research.. In my proposal, the production context, as a directive to the archival organization, comes as a fundamental issue, capable to guarantee the comprehension of the imagetic record genesis, the identification of subjects, as well their utilization on the historical research. The argumentation, mediated by the discussion on the application of some methodological references posed by the tradition of the Warburg Institute, puts the general issue on a relational perspective.

The aim of this work is to identify the needs and appropriate solution strategies for knowledge management, creating digital content from the documentary heritage that guards the National Library. To achieve this goal aims to address this problem and need, using the tools offered by ICT, both from the field of digitization and dissemination of electronic files that are produced, which would be concentrated and distributed in a repository open Access. Finally a set of guidelines for the establishment and description of the objects to be managed by the institutional repository, which will be developed on the DSpace platform is established.
