Abstract:

A hesitant fuzzy linguistic term set (HFLTS), allowing experts using several possible linguistic terms to assess a qualitative linguistic variable, is very useful to express people’s hesitancy in practical decision-making problems. Up to now, a little research has been done on the comparison and distance measure of HFLTSs. In this paper, we present a comparison method for HFLTSs based on pairwise comparisons of each linguistic term in the two HFLTSs. Then, a distance measure method based on the pairwise comparison matrix of HFLTSs is proposed, and we prove that this distance is equal to the distance of the average values of HFLTSs, which makes the distance measure much more simple. Finally, the pairwise comparison and distance measure methods are utilized to develop two multicriteria decision-making approaches under hesitant fuzzy linguistic environments. The results analysis shows that our methods in this paper are more reasonable.

AbstractThe aim of this paper is to develop some aggregation operators for multiple-attribute group decision making (MAGDM) with hesitant fuzzy linguistic information. First, the relationship between uncertain linguistic variable and hesitant fuzzy linguistic term set (HFLTS) is discussed. Some operations and aggregation operators for HFLTSs are developed. Second, based on the hesitant fuzzy linguistic weighted arithmetic averaging operator and the hesitant fuzzy linguistic hybrid averaging operator, an approach to MAGDM problem with hesitant fuzzy linguistic information is proposed. Finally, a practical application of the developed approach to supplier selection in a supply chain and a comparative analysis with other methods are presented.

Abstract:

Fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods are useful and reliable for multi-criteria selection problems under uncertain and imprecise situations. In these methods, if decision-makers hesitate among several linguistic terms, hesitant fuzzy linguistic term sets (HFLTSs), represented by a set of successive linguistic terms instead of single linguistic terms, may be more appropriate to make evaluations. The notion of a fuzzy envelope for the HFLTSs is a beneficial tool that can be directly applied to fuzzy MCDM methods to elicit comparative linguistic expressions (CLEs). The aim of this study is to present a methodology that combines the fuzzy CODAS (COmbinative Distance-based Assessment) method with the fuzzy envelope of HFLTs based on CLEs to solve a personnel selection problem. In order to examine the feasibility of the presented methodology, a case study on blue-collar personnel selection in a manufacturing firm is conducted. A sensitivity analysis is performed to demonstrate the stability and validity of the ranking results. Furthermore, the ranking results of the presented methodology are compared with various fuzzy MCDM methods, including fuzzy EDAS, fuzzy TOPSIS, fuzzy WASPAS, fuzzy ARAS, and fuzzy COPRAS. The results show that the presented methodology is efficient and stable for solving personnel selection problems in a hesitant fuzzy environment.

Abstract:

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the methods of constructing distance measures for hesitant fuzzy linguistic term sets (HFLTSs) and their applications in multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM). We first present some methods to construct distance measures for HFLTSs. Then, we discuss the properties of different distance measures in detail, which are very helpful in comparison of these distance measures for HFLTSs. After that, based upon the distance measures for HFLTSs, a decision-making method is proposed to solve the MCDM problems, in which the assessment values of alternatives over criteria are HFLTSs and the weights of criteria are completely unknown or expressed by HFLTSs. Finally, an example concerning the evaluation of movie quality is provided to demonstrate the practicability of the proposed method, and necessary comparative analyses are conducted to illustrate the effectiveness and advantages of the developed distance measures and the proposed decision-making method.

Abstract:

This paper combines the theory of hesitant fuzzy linguistic term sets (HFLTSs) with two-sided matching decision making (TSMDM). The related definitions of HFLTSs and two-sided matchings (TSMs) are introduced. Then, the problem of TSMDM with HFLTSs is presented. For solving this problem, a model of TSMDM with HFLTSs is developed. The AHP method is used to determine the important degrees of agents of each side. On this base, the model of TSMDM can be changed into a double-goal model with HFLTSs. Then, the double-goal model with HFLTSs is changed into the double-goal model with scores through using the proposed score function. Furthermore, the double-goal model can be changed into a single-goal model by using the linear weighting technique once again. The scheme of TSM can be obtained through solving the single-goal model. At last, an example with sensitive analysis is provided for the illustration of the presented approach of TSM.

Abstract:

This paper develops a novel group decision-making (GDM) approach for solving multiple-criteria group decision-making (MCGDM) problems with uncertainty. The hesitant fuzzy linguistic term sets (HFLTSs) are applied to elicit the decision makers’ linguistic preferences due to their distinguished efficiency and flexibility in representing uncertainty. However, the existing context-free grammar for linguistic description cannot allow generating the linguistic expressions completely free to limit the richness of HFLTSs, and the related methods for dealing with HFLTSs also have limitations in aggregating HFLTSs with different lengths and types. Therefore, this paper proposes extended context-free grammar and a novel GDM approach for HFLTSs, considering the advantages of the rough set theory and OWA operators. The rough set theory can manage the uncertainty existing in the fuzzy representation and deal with HFLTSs represented by the 2-tuple fuzzy linguistic model to get rough number sets. The OWA operator can aggregate these sets with different numbers of elements into an interval simply and objectively. Then, an extended VIKOR method based on the proposed GDM approach for HFLTSs is presented to solve the MCGDM problems. Finally, two examples are given to illustrate the applicability and validity of the developed GDM approach and the hesitant VIKOR method through sensitivity and comparison analysis with other existing approaches.

Abstract:

The existing cosine similarity measure for hesitant fuzzy linguistic term sets (HFLTSs) has an impediment as it does not satisfy the axiom of similarity measure. Due to this disadvantage, a new similarity measure combining the existing cosine similarity measure and the Euclidean distance measure of HFLTSs is proposed, which is constructed based on a linguistic scale function; the related properties are also given. According to the relationship between the distance measure and the similarity measure, a corresponding distance measure between HFLTSs is obtained. Furthermore, we generalize the technique for order preference by similarity to an ideal solution (TOPSIS) method to the obtained distance measure of the HFLTSs. The principal advantages of the proposed method are that it cannot only effectively transform linguistic information in different semantic environments, but it can also avoid the shortcomings of existing the cosine similarity measure. Finally, a case study is conducted to illustrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method, which is compared to the existing methods.

Abstract:

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has emerged as a worldwide pandemic since March 2020. Although most patients complain of moderate or severe pain, these symptoms are generally underestimated and appropriate treatment is not applied. This study aims to guide physicians in selecting and ranking various alternatives for the treatment of pain in COVID-19 patients. However, the choice of treatment for pain requires the consideration of many different conflicting criteria. Therefore, we have studied this problem as a multicriteria decision-making problem. Throughout the solution procedure, first, the criteria and subcriteria affecting the preferences are defined. Then, weight values are determined with respect to these criteria, as they have different degrees of importance for the problem. At this stage, hesitant fuzzy linguistic term sets (HFLTSs) are used, and thus, experts can convey their ideas more accurately. In this first phase of the study, an HFLTS integrated Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method is utilized. Subsequently, possible treatment alternatives are evaluated by using the Vise Kriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje (VIKOR) method. According to the results obtained by considering expert evaluations, the most preferred treatment is the administration of paracetamol, followed by interventional treatments, opioids, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), respectively. With this study, it is ensured that a more accurate method is followed by eliminating possible mistakes due to the subjective evaluations of experts in the process of determining pain treatment. This method can also be used in different patient and disease groups.

Abstract Flt3 is a tyrosine kinase receptor, whose signals support proliferation and differentiation of early hematopoietic progenitors in cooperation with other cytokine signals. The concept of myeloid vs. lymphoid commitment in murine hematopoiesis has been challenged based on the analysis of Flt3 expression (Adolfsson et al, Cell, 2006): Long-term murine hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) with self-renewal activity do not express murine Flt3 (mFlt3), but mFlt3 is upregulated in a fraction of progenitors common to granulocyte/monocyte and lymphoid lineages, suggesting the existence of the 3rd pathway of murine hematolymphoid development. In order to test whether Flt3 expression can delineate such a developmental pathway also in human hematopoiesis, we have analyzed the expression of human Flt3 (hFlt3) in prospectively-purified human stem and progenitors (PNAS 99, 2002) by utilizing 7-color FACS and a highly efficient xenograft systems. Surprisingly, all single human hCD34+hCD38-Thy-1+Lin-long-term HSCs expressed Flt3 at a low level. Purified Flt3lo HSCs can reconstitute NOD-scid/IL2Rγnull newborns (Blood 106, 2005) for a long-term after adoptive transfer of only 100 cells, and generated all hematopoietic cells including GM, megakaryocyte/erythrocyte (MegE), T, B and NK cells, providing formal proof that hFlt3 is expressed in long-term multipotent human HSCs. In the myeloid pathway, hCD34+hCD38+hCD45RA-IL-3RαloLin-CMPs expressed low to negative levels of hFlt3, and hCD34+hCD38+CD45RA-IL-3Rα-Lin-MEPs did not express Flt3. However, in marked contrast to murine progenitors, hCD34+hCD38+hCD45RA+IL-3RαloLin-GMPs uniformly expressed hFlt3 at the highest level. We then separated CMPs into 2 fractions with negative and low level expression of Flt3. In vitro culture in the presence of cytokine cocktail revealed that hFlt3lo CMPs differentiated into hFlt3-CMPs, hFlt3-MEPs and hFlt3hi GMPs, while hFlt3-CMPs mainly generated hFlt3-MEPs in vitro, suggesting that hFlt3lo CMPs is located upstream of the hFlt3-CMP stage that has skewed differentiation potential into the MegE lineage. In vitro differentiation activity of these progenitors was not affected with or without hFlt3 ligand in the culture. hFlt3 ligand, however, appeared to be able to maintain survival of hFlt3-expressing stem and progenitor cells at least in vitro. Thus, in striking contrast to mice, hFlt3 expression is already initiated at the most primitive long-term HSC stage, and is progressively upregulated in accordance with GM lineage differentiation. These data collectively suggest that the role of Flt3 signaling in hematopoietic development might be quite different between human and mouse, and that hFlt3 signaling may especially play a critical role in maintenance of long-term HSCs and in development of GM cells in human hematopoiesis.

Abstract Flt3/Flt3-ligand has a non-redundant role in dendritic cell (DC) and interferon producing cell (IPC) development from hematopoietic progenitor cells. Flt3-ligand−/− mice display a severe reduction of DCs and IPCs, and both, Flt3-ligand injection and conditional over- expression of Flt3-ligand in mice leads to an increased pool size of both cellular subsets. Furthermore, DC and IPC developmental precursor activity segregates with Flt3+ progenitor populations in mouse bone marrow. We have reported that common myeloid progenitors (CMPs) and their progeny granulocyte/macrophage progenitors (GMPs) as well as common lymphoid progenitors (CLPs) and pro-T cells can give rise to DCs in vitro and in vivo. DC developmental potential was lost, however, once definitive megakaryocyte/erythrocyte or B cell commitment occurs, both steps that are accompanied by loss flt3 receptor expression. To test if DC/IPC developmental potential can be regained, we evaluated the effect of ecotropic expression of human Flt3 in lin−c-kit+Flt3−Thy1.1−IL-7Ra− cells (flt3− progenitors) and in megakaryocyte/erythrocyte progenitors (MEPs). hFlt3 was transduced into purified flt3− progenitors, MEPs, and GMPs using a retrovirus vector carrying both hFlt3 and GFP. The transduction efficiencies were 20~25%. hFlt3-transduced flt3− progenitors gave rise to functional DCs and IPCs, but not control-GFP-transduced flt3− progenitors in vitro. Similarly, hFlt3-transduced MEPs differentiated into functional DCs in Flt3L, SCF, GM-CSF, IL-4, and TNF-a supplemented cultures but not into TER119+ erythroid cells. DC developmental potential of hFlt3-transduced MEPs was comparable to GFP-transduced GMPs. Over expression of hFlt3 in GMPs resulted in augmentation of its DC developmental potential. Interestingly, both hFlt3-tarnsduced MEPs and GMPs preferentially differentiated into IPCs in Flt3L supplemented medium. RT-PCR analysis revealed that enforced Flt3 signaling in MEPs lead to up-regulation of GM- and/or DC-development affiliated genes such as G-CSF receptor, M-CSF receptor, and GM-CSF receptor, PU.1, C/EBPa and STAT3. Furthermore, hFlt3-transduced MEPs gave rise to myeloid colonies (CFU-GM/G/M) but not CFU-Mix colonies in GM-CSF, IL-3, SCF, Flt3L, Tpo, and Epo supplemented methylcellulose medium. These results show that artificial Flt3 signaling in otherwise Flt3− progenitors is sufficient to reestablish DC/IPC differentiation and GM-differentiation programs.

Hesitant fuzzy linguistic term sets (HFLTSs) have attracted lots of attention recently due to their distinguished power and efficiency for dealing with multi-criteria decision making. To extend the applicability of HFLTSs, this paper first presents a more concise comparison formula of hesitant fuzzy linguistic term sets based on probability criterion of uniform distribution and develops novel distance measures considering the hesitance degree. Next, an aggregation scheme is designed to integrate OWD measure into the TOPSIS analysis procedure, in which we calculate different criterion weights according to the distance between criterion values and positive and negative ideal solutions. The weighted distances between the alternatives and positive and negative ideal solutions are calculated. Then the relative closeness degree to the positive ideal solution is calculated to rank all alternatives. Finally, an example is given to illustrate the capabilities and validation of the proposed algorithm.

Abstract:

Purpose Selecting the most appropriate healthcare waste treatment technology (HCWTT) is an uncertain and complex decision-making problem because there exist more than one alternative and many conflicting qualitative and quantitative criteria. However, the use of fuzzy and comparative values, instead of specific crisp values, provides more accurate results, so that the alternatives may be evaluated in accordance with hesitant human nature. The purpose of this paper is to select the best HCWTT using a hesitant fuzzy linguistic term set (HFLTS). Design/methodology/approach Five main criteria were identified for HCWTT selection, such as economic, social, environmental, technical and ergonomic criteria. In total, 19 sub-criteria were examined, and the hierarchy of the criteria was formed. The criteria weights were determined using the multi-criteria hesitant fuzzy linguistic term set (MC-HFLTS). The selection processes of incineration (A1), steam sterilization (A2), microwave (A3) and landfill (A4) alternatives were carried out using the multi-attributive ideal-real comparative analysis (MAIRCA) and multi-attributive border approximation area comparison (MABAC) methods. In the comparative analyses, Vise Kriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje (VIKOR) and technique for order preference by similarity to an ideal solution (TOPSIS) methods were used. Findings The comparison of the results of the MABAC and MAIRCA methods with the results of VIKOR and TOPSIS methods indicated that A2 (steam sterilization) alternative was the best one and produced the same ranking of the technology alternatives (A2 > A3 > A1 > A4). As a result, the study concluded that these methods can be successfully used for HCWTT selection problems. Originality/value To the best of the authors’ knowledge, MC-HFLTS has not been used to select HCWTT in the existing literature. For the first time, MC-HFLTS&MAIRCA and MC-HFLTS&MABAC approaches were used in order to choose the best treatment method for healthcare waste under the effect of multiple conflicting hierarchical criteria. It has been provided that MABAC and MAIRCA select alternative choices by taking into consideration the hierarchical criteria. Unlike other studies, this study also considered ergonomic criteria that are important for people working during the process of using the treatment technology.

Abstract:

Context.— Pleomorphic hyalinizing angiectatic tumor (PHAT) of soft parts, hemosiderotic fibrolipomatous tumor (HFLT), and myxoinflammatory fibroblastic sarcoma (MIFS) are 3 distinct entities of low-grade spindle cell mesenchymal neoplasm. These tumors have similar clinical presentations and partially overlapping but distinctive pathologic features. A recurrent translocation, t(1;10)(p22;q24), has been detected in a subset of PHAT, HFLT, MIFS, and HFLT/MIFS hybrid cases. Translocation t(1;10)(p22;q24) involves transforming growth factor β-receptor 3 (TGFBR3) and meningioma-expressed antigen 5 (MGEA5) genes on chromosomes 1p22 and 10q24, respectively. However, the percentage of translocation in PHAT, HFLT, and MIFS varies significantly among different studies. The relationship among these tumors has been a controversial topic among experts. Objective.— To discuss the diagnostic and functional significance of translocation t(1;10)(p22;q24) TGFBR3/MGEA5 rearrangement in HFLT, PHAT, and MIFS. Data Sources.— PubMed was used for this study. Conclusions.— Diagnosis of HFLT, PHAT, and MIFS is challenging because of a lack of unique morphologic, immunophenotypic, molecular, and cytogenetic markers. The recurrent t(1;10)(p22;q24) translocation and/or TGFBR3/MGEA5 rearrangement was reported in 55 patients, with a relatively even distribution among HFLT, PHAT, and MIFS (17 HFLT, 15 MIFS, 13 MIFS/HFLT, and 10 PHAT). This indicates that current morphology-based diagnostic criteria do not identify reliably the subset of soft tissue tumor with t(1;10) translocation. Genetic heterogeneity of these tumors is supported by the recent detection of a mutually exclusive, second recurrent genetic change, t(7;17) TOM1L2-BRAF translocation or BRAF amplification, in a subset of MIFS.

Abstract:

AbstractAlthough the effects of dietary fat and carbohydrate on satiety are well documented, little is known about the impact of these macronutrients on food hedonics. We examined the effects ofad libitumand isoenergetic meals varying in fat and carbohydrate on satiety, energy intake and food hedonics. In all, sixty-five overweight and obese individuals (BMI=30·9 (sd3·8) kg/m2) completed two separate test meal days in a randomised order in which they consumed high-fat/low-carbohydrate (HFLC) or low-fat/high-carbohydrate (LFHC) foods. Satiety was measured using subjective appetite ratings to calculate the satiety quotient. Satiation was assessed by intake atad libitummeals. Hedonic measures of explicit liking (subjective ratings) and implicit wanting (speed of forced choice) for an array of HFLC and LFHC foods were also tested before and after isoenergetic HFLC and LFHC meals. The satiety quotient was greater afterad libitumand isoenergetic meals during the LFHC condition compared with the HFLC condition (P=0·006 andP=0·001, respectively), whereasad libitumenergy intake was lower in the LFHC condition (P<0·001). Importantly, the LFHC meal also reduced explicit liking (P<0·001) and implicit wanting (P=0·011) for HFLC foods compared with the isoenergetic HFLC meal, which failed to suppress the hedonic appeal of subsequent HFLC foods. Therefore, when coupled with increased satiety and lower energy intake, the greater suppression of hedonic appeal for high-fat food seen with LFHC foods provides a further mechanism for why these foods promote better short-term appetite control than HFLC foods.

Abstract:

Sysmex XN-1000 hematology analyzer is an automated 5-part diff analyzer (eosinophils, basophils, neutrophils, lymphocytes, and monocytes). In the calculated area, the type of difference between the Sysmex hematology device and other hematology devices is Immature Granulocyte (IG), Nucleated Red Blood Cell (NRBC), and High Fluorescent Lymphocytes Count (HFLC). The cells calculated in the HFLC area are atypical lymphocytes. In patients with dengue hemorrhagic fever, it is often found atypical lymphocytes called blue plasma lymphocytes. The purpose of this study was to determine the description of HFLC in patients with dengue fever using the hematology analyzer Sysmex XN-1000. A descriptive retrospective study was conducted during April-May 2017. The subjects of the study were adult patients diagnosed with dengue hemorrhagic fever with WHO criteria. Of the 47 samples of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) patients, the average HFLC results were between 2.0-32.3%, which was 11.5%, while the average range of normal HFLC values was between 0.0-1.4% and was 0.3%. In cases of DHF, there is an increase in HFLC. This is likely to be attributed to atypical lymphocyte increase in dengue hemorrhagic fever. Further research with more varied samples still needs to be done.

Abstract:

The benefits of using reinforcing fibers in latex-modified rapid-set cement preplaced concrete for emergency pavement repairs were examined in terms of strength, permeability, and durability as functions of the type of fiber. Single-type fibers, including jute, poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA), and nylon fibers, as well as hybrid fiber mixtures prepared with two of the aforementioned fibers at a 1:1 weight ratio, were evaluated. Fibers were incorporated into the concrete mixture at 1.2 kg/m3. A vibratory press compactor that simulates roller compaction was used to increase compaction and densification of the resulting pavement repair material. The hybrid fiber-reinforced latex-modified rapid-set cement preplaced concrete (HFLMC) was manufactured to satisfy the criteria for opening traffic, i.e., compressive strength of 21 MPa or higher, and flexural strength of 3.5 MPa or higher after 4 h. Pavement requiring repair was removed and replaced with coarse aggregate. The rapid-set binder, fibers, and latex were then mixed and placed onto the coarse aggregate layer. The repair was considered complete after compaction. The resulting HFLMC satisfied all of the test criteria. Furthermore, concretes made with hybrid fibers were more mechanically sound than those made with a single fiber variety. Hybrid fiber concretes made with PVA and nylon fibers exhibited the best properties for emergency pavement repair. These results indicate that HFLMC is suitable for emergency pavement repair.

We use thermal conductivity to study a unique state in the high field corner of the superconducting phase of CeCoIn5. The spin-density-wave (SDW) magnetic order in this high field low temperature (HFLT) phase requires superconductivity for its very existence, and both magnetism and superconductivity disappear together at superconducting critical field H[Formula: see text]. We measured thermal conductivity of CeCoIn5 in a rotating magnetic field to study the nature of the HFLT phase. Our measurements reveal the presence of an additional order inside the HFLT phase that is intimately intertwined with the superconducting [Formula: see text]-wave and the SDW orders, which we identify as a superconducting [Formula: see text]-wave pair-density-wave (PDW). CeCoIn5 displays a hierarchy of interactions within the HFLT phase, where spin–orbit coupling orients the SDW, which then determines orientation of the secondary PDW component.

Hesitant fuzzy linguistic term set (HFLTS) is a set with ordered consecutive linguistic terms, and is very useful in addressing the situations where people are hesitant in providing their linguistic assessments. Wang [H. Wang, Extended hesitant fuzzy linguistic term sets and their aggregation in group decision making, International Journal of Computational Intelligence Systems 8(1) (2015) 14–33.] removed the consecutive condition to introduce the notion of extended HFLTS (EHFLTS). The generalized form has wider applications in linguistic group decision-making. By introducing distance measures for EHFLTSs, in this paper we develop a novel multi-criteria group decision making model to deal with hesitant fuzzy linguistic information. The model collects group linguistic information by using EHFLTSs and avoids the possible loss of information. Moreover, it can assess the importance weights of criteria according to their subjective and objective information and rank alternatives based on the rationale of TOPSIS. In order to illustrate the applicability of the proposed algorithm, two examples are given and comparisons are made with the other existing methods.

Abstract:

To analyze the quality of three-dimensional (3D) model for aircraft structural parts designed by model-based definition (MBD) technology, an approach combining analytic hierarchy process (AHP), hesitant fuzzy linguistic term set (HFLTS), and fuzzy synthetic evaluation is proposed. According to all levels of quality standards and part specification-tree elements, a quality assessment index system is constructed from four sub-models of parts 3D model: design model, process model, tooling model, and test model. In addition, the weight of each index is calculated using the AHP. Then the assessment model is established by using a configurable index system model, HFLTS, fuzzy synthetic evaluation, and assigning uniformly and quantitatively the index system through quality grade division rules of indexes and triangular fuzzy numbers. Finally, a case application is used to illustrate the proposed method. The application of this method can make the quality analysis of parts 3D model more effective, accurate, and efficient. This paper can not only help enterprises identify higher-weight and error-prone design factors, but also guide designers in modeling.

A variety of multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) methods for renewable energy projects evaluation have been proposed, of which the premise of using these methods is to assume that the criteria are independent of each other. However, it may be difficult or costly to build independent criteria set in some cases because renewable energy planning is to pursue a balance of economic, social, and environmental goals, which makes the existence of interaction among criteria be of great possibility. In this paper, we consider a highly ambiguous decision situation, where the experts are allowed to give the evaluations in the form of hesitant fuzzy linguistic terms set (HFLTS). We build a hesitant fuzzy linguistic decision-making model handling the interaction among criteria from the perspective of distance measure and apply it to renewable energy projects selection. The proposed method can consider more fuzzy factors and deal with the interaction among criteria more approximately. It can reduce the decision pressure and improve the decision-making efficiency because the decision makers are allowed to express their preference in form of HFLTS and a decision criteria set of which the criteria are independent of each other is not necessary.

Hesitant fuzzy linguistic term set (HFLTS) can handle the qualitative and hesitant information in multiple attribute decision making (MADM) problems which are widely used in various fields. However, the experts’ evaluation of information is not completely reliable in the situation where their own knowledge background is insufficient. In order to deal with deviations due to incomplete reliability of the evaluation, this paper first proposes the interval probability hesitant fuzzy linguistic variable (IPHFLV), which takes the HFLTS as the evaluation part and adds a novel element-reliability of evaluation, thus can describe the different credibility of information evaluation due to the familiarity of experts with schemes and the differences in knowledge cognition. The operation rules and comparison methods are also illustrated. Particularly, under the inspiration of probability theory, we propose the possibility degree of the IPHFLVs. Then we propose IPHFL-AHP based on the AHP and interval probability hesitant fuzzy linguistic variable. Especially, the general geometric consistency index (G-GCI) based on the unbiased estimator of the variance is presented to measure the consistency and the iterative algorithm is constructed to improve the consistency. We use the possibility degree to calculate the priority vector to acquire the total ranking and introduce the process of IPHFL-AHP. Finally, case study of talent selection is given to illustrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to propose a three-way group decision-making approach to address the selection of green supplier, by extending decision-theoretic rough set (DTRS) into hesitant fuzzy linguistic (HFL) environment, considering the flexible evaluation expression format of HFL term set (HFLTS) and the idea of minimum expected risk in DTRS. Design/methodology/approach Specifically, the authors first present the calculation method of the conditional probability and discuss the loss functions of DTRS with HFL element (HFLE), along with some associated properties being investigated in detail. Further, three-way group decisions rules can be deduced, followed by the cost of every green supplier candidate. Thus, based on these discussions, a novel green supplier selection DTRS model that combines multi-criteria group decision-making (MCGDM) and HFLTS is designed. Findings A numerical example of green supplier selection, the comparative analysis and associated discussions are conducted to illustrate the applicability and novelty of the presented model. Practical implications The selection of green supplier has played a critically strategic role in sustainable enterprise development due to continuous environmental concerns. This paper offers an insight for companies to select green supplier selection from the perspective of three-way group decisions. Originality/value This paper uses three-way decisions to address green supplier selection in the HFL context, which is considered as a MCGDM issue.

Hemosiderotic fibrohistiocytic lipomatous tumor (HFLT) is a rare and supposedly benign fibrolipomatous entity. Clinical and imaging features are not specific. So, histologic, immunohistochemical and molecular analyses are required for diagnosis. The clinic and pathologic aspects of this lesion are diversely reported. Moreover, its reactive or neoplastic origin is still under debate. This lesion should be treated by complete excision. It is mandatory to be aware of its tendency to harbor higher-grade lesions with aggressive outcome. We report a case of HFLT affecting the dorsum of the third right finger in a 52-year-old women, in order to describe histologic patterns of this tumor and to discuss the current literature regarding the etiopathogeny and the cytogenetic features of this rare entity.

A kind of hesitant fuzzy linguistic agglomerative hierarchical clustering algorithm is proposed. Furthermore, we propose a hesitant fuzzy linguistic Boole matrix clustering algorithm and compare the two clustering algorithms. The proposed clustering algorithms are applied in the field of judicial execution, which provides decision support for the executive judge to determine the focus of the investigation and the control. A clustering example verifies the clustering algorithm’s effectiveness in the context of hesitant fuzzy linguistic decision information.

Abstract FLT3/FLK2, a member of the receptor tyrosine kinase family, plays a critical role in maintenance of hematopoietic homeostasis, and the constitutively active form of the FLT3 mutation is one of the most common genetic abnormalities in acute myelogenous leukemia. In murine hematopoiesis, Flt3 is not expressed in self-renewing long-term hematopoietic stem cells (LT-HSCs), but its expression is restricted to the multipotent and the lymphoid progenitor stages at which cells are incapable of self-renewal. In order to test whether Flt3 expression can delineate such a developmental pathway also in human hematopoiesis, we have analyzed the expression of human Flt3 (hFlt3) in prospectively-purified human stem and progenitors (PNAS 2002) by utilizing 7-color FACS and a highly efficient xenograft systems. We have found that Flt3 expression in early hematopoiesis is completely different between human and mice: hCD34+hCD38-hCD90+Lin-LT-HSCs capable of long-term reconstitution in xenogeneic hosts uniformly express hFlt3, and its expression is upregulated through hCD34+hCD38+hCD45RA-hCD123+Lin-common myeloid progenitors (CMPs) to hCD34+hCD38+hCD45RA+hCD123+Lin-granulocyte/macrophage progenitors (GMPs), but hCD34+hCD38+hCD45RA-hCD123-Lin- megakaryocyte/erythrocyte progenitors (MEPs) shut off its expression in human. Furthermore, we have also demonstrated that hFlt3 signaling can prevent stem and progenitors from apoptotic cell death in vitro without any effects on lineage fate decision. Next, we tried to find key molecules for Flt3-Flt3 ligand (FL)-mediating anti-apoptotic effect. First, we tested expression pattern of anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 family genes in HSCs, CMPs, GMPs, MEPs and common lymphoid progenitors (CLPs) in human hematopoiesis. Mcl-1, an indispensable survival factor for murine hematopoiesis (Science, 2005), was also expressed at the highest level in human HSCs, whereas Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL was highly expressed in GMPs and MEPs, respectively. Next, we examined whether FL stimulation can upregulate the expression of Bcl-2 family genes in human purified HSCs and progenitors. FL significantly upregulated the expression of Mcl-1, but not of Bcl-2 or Bcl-xL in HSCs as well as CMPs and GMPs. In conclusion, our data show that the distribution of Flt3 is quite different in mouse and human hematopoeisis. Human Flt3 targets LT-HSCs and myeloid progenitors except for MEPs. Flt3 signaling might support cell survival in early hematopoiesis including the HSC and the myeloid progenitor stages through upregulation of Mcl-1. This is a striking example that the expression pattern of key molecules could be significantly different between human and mouse.

Sustainable development implies establishing principles, objectives and strategies within organizations that impact the organizational culture in innovation. However, a method needs to be defined in order to know the critical factors that allow the strengthening of the organizational culture in innovation with emphasis on Industry 4.0 and sustainable development in a highly changing environment for a specific organization. In this sense, the paper identifies the set of factors that are documented through reviews and analysis of the literature, subsequently proposes a Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) methodology using hesitant fuzzy linguistic term sets (HFLTS) and combinative distance-based assessment (CODAS), where factors are evaluated to obtain a score and hierarchy value. Weight values were calculated using the ambiguity reduction method, which incorporates the knowledge acquired by researchers in organizational culture of innovation and expert judgment under the Saaty scale used in analytic hierarchy process (AHP). Finally, a model of organizational culture in innovation is proposed that can be used by organizations to focus strategies on the factors of greater hierarchy and thereby optimize their resources considering the sustainable development and the Industry 4.0 approach.

Abstract Objectives Folic acid (FA) intake by many women in North America is exceeding recommendations. We have shown that high maternal FA induces methylation-dependent programming of energy regulation associated with an obesogenic phenotype in adult rat offspring. However, it is unclear if this is a direct effect of high FA or due to an imbalance between FA and other methyl-nutrients (i.e., choline) in the 1-carbon cycle. Unlike FA, choline intake by women is below recommendations and is absent from most prenatal supplements, potentially affecting fetal development. The objective of this study was to examine the mechanisms and effects of choline content in high FA maternal diets on in-utero programming of energy regulation and later-life offspring phenotype. Methods Pregnant Wistar rats were fed an AIN-93 G diet with recommended FA and choline (1X, RFRC, control), or 5X-FA diet with choline at 0.5X-(HFLC), 1X-(HFRC), or 2.5X- (HFHC). In pups at birth, brain and liver 1-carbon metabolites, hypothalamic DNA methyltransferase (DNMT) activity and global DNA methylation (5-mC%) were measured. At weaning, one male pup/dam was fed the control diet and weekly weight-gain and food intake were recorded for 20 weeks. Results Offspring born to dams on the HFLC and HFRC, but not HFHC diet, had higher food intake (P < 0.05) and weight-gain (P < 0.01) than controls. In liver at birth, free choline was lower in HFHC than in HFLC pups, but betaine was unaffected. In contrast, in brains, betaine but not free choline concentrations, directly reflected the maternal choline diets. These results suggest that choline may modulate central food intake pathways via the methyl-donor betaine, warranting further investigation. Hypothalamic DNMT activity was highest (P < 0.05) in HFLC pups but global methylation was not affected. Thus, gene expression by RNA sequencing and gene-specific methylation in the hypothalamus is in progress to elucidate the mechanisms underlying the observed phenotype. Conclusions Increased maternal choline mitigates the high FA diet induced increase in body weight and food intake in the adult offspring and results in tissue-specific changes in 1-carbon metabolism at birth. These findings have potential application to human health, providing support to optimize choline and FA intakes by women of childbearing age. Funding Sources CIHR-INMD.

Abstract:

ABSTRACT While modified vaccinia virus Ankara (MVA) is currently in clinical development as a safe vaccine against smallpox and heterologous infectious diseases, its immunogenicity is likely limited due to the inability of the virus to replicate productively in mammalian hosts. In light of recent data demonstrating that vaccinia viruses, including MVA, preferentially infect antigen-presenting cells (APCs) that play crucial roles in generating antiviral immunity, we hypothesized that expression of specific cytokines and chemokines that mediate APC recruitment and activation from recombinant MVA (rMVA) vectors would enhance the immunogenicity of these vectors. To test this hypothesis, we generated rMVAs that express murine granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (mGM-CSF), human CCL20/human macrophage inflammatory protein 3α (hCCL20/hMIP-3α), or human fms-like tyrosine kinase 3 ligand (hFlt3-L), factors predicted to increase levels of dendritic cells (DCs), to recruit DCs to sites of immunization, or to promote maturation of DCs in vivo, respectively. These rMVAs also coexpress the well-characterized, immunodominant lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus nucleoprotein (NP) antigen that enabled sensitive and quantitative assessment of antigen-specific CD8+ T-cell responses following immunization of BALB/c mice. Our results demonstrate that immunization of mice with rMVAs expressing mGM-CSF or hCCL20, but not hFlt3-L, results in two- to fourfold increases of cellular immune responses directed against vector-encoded antigens and 6- to 17-fold enhancements of MVA-specific antibody titers, compared to those responses elicited by nonadjuvanted rMVA. Of note, cytokine augmentation of cellular immune responses occurs when rMVAs are given as primary immunizations but not when they are used as booster immunizations, suggesting that these APC-modulating proteins, when used as poxvirus-encoded adjuvants, are more effective at stimulating naïve T-cell responses than in promoting recall of preexisting memory T-cell responses. Our results demonstrate that a strategy to express specific genetic adjuvants from rMVA vectors can be successfully applied to enhance the immunogenicity of MVA-based vaccines.

China is a developing country and with the speeding up of its industrialization, the environmental problems are becoming more serious, environmental pollution is a major environmental health problem in China. In order to have a more effective management and control of the significant growth issues of environment pollution, green supply chain incentives have started, which is kind of market incentive aiming to moderate the adverse effects of environmental pollution. Proper green chain supply selection and evaluation of companies is becoming very essential in sustainable green supply chain management. Generally speaking, decision-makers (DMs) prefer to provide a set of feasible and quantitative information for making performance evaluation, which motivates us to propose a framework using dual hesitant fuzzy linguistic term set (DHFLTS) and hesitant fuzzy linguistic term set (HFLTS) to select green suppliers. In this paper, group satisfaction and the regret theory are adopted for elicitation of preference information. The DHFLTS and HFLTS provide qualitative preferences of the DMs as well as reflect their hesitancy, inconsistency, and vagueness. Further, two new group satisfaction degrees are defined called the group satisfaction of hesitant fuzzy linguistic term set and dual hesitant fuzzy linguistic term set. Some properties of group satisfaction with DHFLST and HFL are also discussed. Unknown attribute weights are obtained to construct a novel Lagrange function optimization model to maximize the group satisfaction degree, which is an extension of general group satisfaction degree. A novel methodological approach based on two group satisfaction degrees framework and regret theory is developed to rank and select green chain suppliers focusing on specific selection objectives. The proposed model and method of this paper allow the DM to execute different fuzzy scenarios by changing importance weights attached to the triple-bottom-line areas. In the final part, the advantage of the proposed group satisfaction degree under DHFL and HFL background over the existing group satisfaction degree using examples have been presented with different computational combinations.

This paper investigates the problems of cooperative task assignment and trajectory planning for teams of cooperative unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). A novel approach of hierarchical fuzzy logic controller (HFLC) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) is proposed. Initially, teams of UAVs are moving in a pre-defined formation covering a specified area. When one or more targets are detected, the teams send a package of information to the ground station (GS) including the target’s degree of threat, degree of importance, and the separating distance between each team and each detected target. Based on the gathered information, the ground station assigns the teams to the targets. HFLC is implemented in the GS to solve the assignment problem ensuring that each team is assigned to a unique target. Next, each team plans its own path by formulating the path planning problem as an optimization problem. The objective in this case is to minimize the time to reach their destination considering the UAVs dynamic constraints and collision avoidance between teams. A hybrid approach of control parametrization and time discretization (CPTD) and PSO is proposed to solve this optimization problem. Finally, numerical simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Background: Pleomorphic hyalinizing angiectatic tumor (PHAT) and hemosiderotic fibrolipomatous tumor (HFLT) are low-grade neoplasms that share clinicopathologic features and recurring translocation t(1;10)(p22;q24) involving the TGFBR3 and MGEA5 genes. Coexistence of these tumors with a high-grade sarcoma is exceedingly rare and the cytologic features have not been widely described in the literature. Case: A 55-year-old female presented with a soft tissue tumor on the dorsum of the foot. Cytologic smears and corresponding core biopsies were composed of a population of markedly pleomorphic spindle cells seen singly and in loose clusters within a myxofibrous matrix and infiltrating fat, with coarse chromatin, prominent nucleoli, irregular nuclear contours and delicate to vacuolated cytoplasm. Intracytoplasmic hemosiderin granules and rare intranuclear cytoplasmic pseudoinclusions were identified. The histologic features of the excisional biopsy mirrored those of the cytologic preparations, but also demonstrated cellular foci of higher-grade sarcoma composed of markedly pleomorphic tumor cells with large vesicular nuclei and prominent nucleoli, exhibiting a mitotic index of 12 mitotic figures per 10 high-powered fields. Conclusion: While HFLT/PHAT generally can be managed by wide local excision, it is important to be aware of their capacity to harbor higher-grade lesions with metastatic potential which may require more radical surgical excision.

This paper describes the design of an electromagnetic interference (EMI) filter for the high-frequency link matrix converter (HFLMC). The proposed method aims to systematize the design process for pre-compliance with CISPR 11 Class B standard in the frequency range 150 kHz to 30 MHz. This approach can be extended to other current source converters which allows time-savings during the project of the filter. Conducted emissions are estimated through extended simulation and take into account the effect of the measurement apparatus. Differential-mode (DM) and common-mode (CM) filtering stages are projected separately and then integrated in a synergistic way in a single PCB to reduce volume and weight. A prototype of the filter was constructed and tested in the laboratory. Experimental results with the characterization of the insertion losses following the CISPR 17 standard are provided. The attenuation capability of the filter was demonstrated in the final part of the paper.

Manufacturing companies usually expect strategic improvements to focus on reducing both waste and variability in processes, whereas markets demand greater flexibility and low product costs. To deal with this issue, lean manufacturing (LM) emerged as a solution; however, it is often challenging to evaluate its true effect on corporate performance. This challenge can be overcome, nonetheless, by treating it as a multi-criteria problem using the Hesitant Fuzzy linguistic and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method. In fact, the hesitant fuzzy linguistic term sets (HFLTS) is vastly employed in decision-making problems. The main contribution of this work is a method to assess the performance of LM applications in the manufacturing industry using the hesitant fuzzy set and TOPSIS to deal with criteria and attitudes from decision makers regarding such LM applications. At the end of the paper, we present a reasonable study to analyze the obtained results.

AbstractMethods for dealing with missing data in clinical trials have received increased attention from the regulators and practitioners in the pharmaceutical industry over the last few years. Consideration of missing data in a study is important as they can lead to substantial biases and have an impact on overall statistical power. This problem may be caused by patients dropping before completion of the study. The new guidelines of the International Conference on Harmonization place great emphasis on the importance of carefully choosing primary analysis methods based on clearly formulated assumptions regarding the missingness mechanism. The reason for dropout or withdrawal would be either related to the trial (e.g. adverse event, death, unpleasant study procedures, lack of improvement) or unrelated to the trial (e.g. moving away, unrelated disease). We applied selection models on liver cirrhosis patient data to analyse the treatment efficiency comparing the surgery of liver cirrhosis patients with consenting for participation HFLPC (Human Fatal Liver Progenitor Cells) infusion with surgery alone. It was found that comparison between treatment conditions when missing values are ignored potentially leads to biased conclusions.

Abstract Multilevel inverters are emerging as a new breed of power converter options for power system applications. Recent advances in power switching devices enabled the suitability of multilevel inverters for high voltage and high power applications because they are connecting several devices in series without the need of component matching. Usually, a transformerless battery energy storage system, based on a cascaded multilevel inverter, is used as a measure for voltage and frequency deviations. System can be reduced in size, weight, and cost of energy storage system. High-frequency link circuit topology is advantageous in realizing compact and light-weight power converters for uninterruptible power supply systems, new energy systems using photovoltaic-cells, fuel-cells and so on. This paper presents a DC–DC type high-frequency link DC (HFLDC) cascaded multilevel inverter. Each converter cell is implemented a control strategy for two H-bridge inverters that are controlled with the same multicarrier pulse width modulation (PWM) technique. The proposed cascaded multilevel inverter generates lower voltage total harmonic distortion (THD) in comparison with conventional cascaded multilevel inverter. Digital simulations are carried out using PSCAD/EMTDC to validate the performance of the proposed cascaded multilevel inverter.

Smart health technologies can provide effective healthcare services such as personalization of treatments through big data, robotics in cure and care, artificial intelligence support to doctors, etc. The mixed structure of the evaluation of smart health technologies involves various contradictory criteria. However, when information is of uncertain nature, it is difficult to decide on how to treat. A hesitant fuzzy linguistic term set (HFLTS) approach is applied to overcome such uncertainties related to this multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problem. This approach can be used to facilitate experts’ decision-making processes in complex and uncertain situations. In this study, an integrated hesitant fuzzy linguistic (HFL) MCDM approach is proposed to evaluate smart health technologies. The criteria are weighted with HFL Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), and then, smart health technologies are evaluated with the HFL Combinative Distance-based Assessment (CODAS) method. A comparative analysis with HFL COPRAS and HFL TOPSIS is applied. Lastly, the potential of this approach is presented through a case study.

Hesitant fuzzy linguistic term set (HFLTS), as a flexible tool to represent people’s uncertain cognition, has attracted lots of scholars’ research interests, and a series of methodologies have been proposed to deal with a variety of decision-making problems. In this paper, we develop a hesitant fuzzy linguistic possibility degree-based linear assignment (HFL-PDLA) method to tackle the multiple criteria decision-making (MCDM) problems under hesitant fuzzy linguistic environment. Firstly, we define the possibility degree of hesitant fuzzy linguistic element (HFLE). Additionally, some relevant concepts related to the HFL-PDLA method are proposed, such as the relative difference matrix, the rank contribution matrix, the optimal permutation matrix, etc. Furthermore, the algorithm of the HFL-PDLA method is given to deal with hesitant fuzzy linguistic MCDM problems. Moreover, we apply the HFL-PDLA method to deal with a practical case which is to select the optimal treatment technology for disposing the outspent or old medical apparatuses and instruments in West China Hospital (WCH). Finally, we show the advantages of the HFL-PDLA method by making some comparative analyses with the TOPSIS method, the VIKOR method the PROMETHEE method and the LINMAP method.
