Abstract:
This study explores the communication articulations of Hans-Georg Gadamer’s hermeneutics. The research method that was used is a mix between the meta-analytic method, comparative method and hermeneutic method. It starts from the assumption that in order to understand the communication universe, this has to be judged in relation with some pre-determined axes. The corpus of analysis is hermeneutical work of Gadamer. We prove that, founder of the philosophical hermeneutics, Gadamer is also one of the founders of communication hermeneutics. The thetic articulation radiography of the Gadamerian work highlights that activities of hermeneutics inevitably occur within communication; communication includes strong interpretive-hermeneutic flows. Gadamer considers the interpretation as an intrinsic process of communication: no communication can exist without interpretation. The work reveals as main elements of Gadamerian hermeneutic conception of communication: universality of interpretation (of reason, language and understanding), hermeneutical situation (addressing, fusion of horizons), the principle and the canon of interpretation.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the application of a hermeneutic-based approach as innovative way to study the Cultural Heritage management in a mesoeconomic space. Design/methodology/approach The paper builds a theoretical framework based on the analysis of relevant literature in the field of cultural economics, heritage economics and conservation and restoration techniques. Then, after having defined the conceptual hypothesis, a hermeneutical interpretative model is designed for the analysis of the processes of Cultural Heritage management with particular regard to the strategies of stakeholder engagement. Findings The research shows how the mesoeconomic space is that border area where it is possible to solve more easily the conflicts that arise as a result of the different expectations of stakeholders. Hermeneutical analysis, applied in iterative form, allows us to find common connections, points of contact and convergences between the interpretative horizons of the various stakeholders. Practical implications The application of the interpretative model allows the identification of the expectations of stakeholders, improving the knowledge of the tangible and intangible attributes of works of art, in order to design appropriate interventions of restoration, conservation and valorization. Social implications The new model of analysis, based on hermeneutic methodology, is designed to understand and describe the social and economic relations between the different stakeholders involved in the management of Cultural Heritage. Originality/value This paper examines for the first time the Cultural Heritage sector within the mesoeconomic area between the micro and the macroeconomy. In addition to this mesoeconomic analysis and conceptual approach, the authors introduce as methodology the economic hermeneutics that represents an innovative tool in the field of economic and business disciplines.

Abstract:
Liberation Theology as a movement and theological method has a unique hermeneutical approach. The way they study the Bible begins with studying their real life situations, then they identify the answers the Bible gives to their real problems. Interpreting the Bible starting from the context by some scholar was considered as an act of eisegesis, and not exegesis. Thus, this paper aims to review the hermeneutical approach used by Liberation Theology movement. This research is a qualitative research using descriptive-analytical method. Liberation Theology's hermeneutical approach is clearly outlined. Furthermore, the analysis of this approach is carried out by tracing its philosophical basis. In this way, one can judge the hermeneutics of Liberation Theology fairly and proportionally. The view being argued in this paper is that criticism of the hermeneutical approach of Liberation Theology is not properly positioned in the contradiction between exegesis and eisegesis, but it needs to be understood as beyond the contradiction. Although this approach starts its hermeneutic circle from context to text, that does not mean it cannot be justified. Pre-understanding before reading the text is raised clearly so that it can be spoken about with the intention of the text being read. It is in the process of dialoguing the context with the biblical text that the "meaning" is formed. The relationship between text and context is not understood as a linear one-way movement, but as an interconnected circle.

Abstract:
Science education emphasizes the development of individuals' ability to make comments, reasoning, and critical reflection while expressing their scientific thoughts. In this sense, future science teachers have great responsibility to develop those skills of the learners and their meaningful learning. Many researches emphasize hermeneutical thinking for disciplines such as mathematics and science to create meaningful learning. The current research aimed to reveal pre-service science teachers’ hermeneutical perspectives about science and to determine their existing ideas. For this aim, scientific problems presented to pre-service science teachers via scenarios, and how they developed their approaches to solve these problems, and whether they used hermeneutics in this process were examined. The hermeneutical perspectives of pre-service teachers were selected as a single case -by using qualitative research method- to have a deep understanding of their hermeneutical perspectives. The research group consisted of nine third-year-students. Semi-structured interviews prepared by the researchers were applied before and after the intervention in the research conducted for 14 weeks in Science Teaching Laboratory Applications-I course. The data were analysed by a descriptive analysis method. It has been evidenced that science-related hermeneutical perspectives of the pre-service science teachers have developed as a result of the problem-based scenario studies. Key words: hermeneutics, hermeneutical perspective, scenario-based learning, science education, pre-service science teacher.

Abstract:
This article presents the results of the observations about digital literacy that were studied philosophically through Gadamer's hermeneutic approach. The reason for using this approach is to achieve an understanding of how the subject and its history play a role in the digital literacy process, where ontologically, the content of information has been visualized into the digital world so that a philosophical understanding is needed in understanding the virtual reality. This research is included in the classification of qualitative research with an analysis with three stages, namely reducing data that is very general and broad in a more specific form, and relevant to digital literacy and hermeneutics; then classifies the dimensions of digital literacy so that it is easy to determine the dimensions of the hermeneutics; interpret digital literacy to clarify the dimensions of hermeneutics in it, and concludes and draws relevance to efforts to overcome hoaxes. The results obtained from this study are on a hermeneutical analysis of the process of digital literacy as a catalyst for peace, that equalizing the elimination of discrimination at the historical-ego level can be achieved through the application of hermeneutical digital literacy that is by promoting dialectical historical understanding, where contemporary history dialecticism with the history of the past which is often claimed by certain groups as the heyday and the fruit of their work.

Abstract:
Abstract. Due to translation process by Google Translate (GT) is recently common, analyzing its translation equivalence is required. Conducted as descriptive qualitative research, this content analysis study provides descriptions of number and personal equivalence aspects toward sentence meaning in hermeneutics view. There were 90 English sentences analyzed as research sample resulting 7 types of meaning equivalence phenomenon: 1) target text (TT) has number equivalent meaning and the sentence is hermeneutically accepted, 2) TT has no number equivalent meaning yet the sentence is hermeneutically accepted, 3) TT has no number equivalent meaning and the sentence is not hermeneutically accepted, 4) TT has personal equivalent meaning and the sentence is hermeneutically accepted, 5) TT has no personal equivalent meaning yet the sentence is hermeneutically accepted, 6) TT has no personal equivalent meaning and the sentence is not hermeneutically accepted, and 7) both personal meaning equivalence and sentence hermeneutics point of view cannot be identified due to clusivity of Indonesian. It is concluded that GT is able to provide 53% meaning accuracy in terms of number aspect and 86.6% of number aspect sentences are hermeneutically accepted. GT provides 53% meaning accuracy in personal aspect and 73.3% of personal aspect sentences are hermeneutically accepted. Figures show higher hermeneutical acceptance than the meaning equivalent indicate that GT in Indonesian is considered to be understandable for basic need of clause and sentence level for common information in terms of number and personal equivalence, but for detailed information especially those of number, masculine/feminine, and clusivity phenomenon in Indonesian more enhancement for accuracy is needed. Keywords: meaning equivalence, hermeneutics, clusivity

Abstract:
This article pursues the analysis of Hans Robert Jauss’s conception of “Aesthetic Experience”, as developed in Ästhetische Erfahrung und literarische Hermeneutik. The critical implication of hermeneutics in literary analysis is still considered problematic. In his book, Jauss goes beyond disciplinary limits and asserts that a hermeneutical methodology is in fact relevant in postmodern literary theory. He then provides the principles of this approach : historical consciousness and dialectical hermeneutics are here considered to be the main events involved in the act of interpretation, for they broaden one’s understanding of the text. This study, divided into two parts — theoretical and literary —, examines first the conceptual nature of “Aesthetic Experience”. It then presents an example of one of Jauss’s most important hermeneutical essays : a comparative reading of The Sorrows of Young Werther and The New Héloïse. We wish to prove the relevance of literary hermeneutics and the significance of its application, a process that understands the author “better than he understood himself”.

Abstract:
This article proposes that the next step in feminist biblical studies requires, even demands, the development of sociologically framed paradigms. It illustrates this proposal for such a third kind of reading with an examination of the interpretation history of Genesis 2-3 during the past forty years. Five hermeneutical stages emerge. They move from a first stage on feminist interpretations, to a second stage on deconstructive responses, to a third stage of interpretations that reassert androcentric meaning, to a fourth stage on the Christian Right’s insistence on patriarchal gender roles, and finally to a fifth stage on commercialized biblical meanings in the Western media. This analysis shows that a feminist sociology of biblical hermeneutics explains, even to beginning students, the connections between biblical hermeneutics and society, because it conceptualizes biblical texts and interpretation histories as hermeneutically dynamic, politically and religiously charged conversations concerning socio-political practices.

Abstract:
The classical polarities of hermeneutics - the authoritative text and the present context - are seen in Mark's Gospel to be resolved in a quite distinct paradigm of what constitutes “sacred text”. The use of literary-critical analysis suggests that not only does Mark reveal a hermeneutical awareness, but that he intends the ongoing community of faith to be the necessary component that constitutes the text as sacred. This principle finds a pertinent example in Mark's handling of the issue of purity. In turn, to be true to the hermeneutical principle espoused by Mark, suggestions are made as to the (necessary) interaction of Mark with the current issue for the church in questions raised by AIDS.

Abstract:
The present paper deals with one of the intricate problems of philology – the question of reading and understanding a work of verbal creativity. The paper aims at emphasizing the methodological value of the hermeneutical approach to the study of literature which comes into being due to the presence of three basic components: imagination, language as a code between the writer and the reader, and the expected ability of the reader to share the author’s emotions and thoughts. Proceeding from the basic statements of hermeneutics and Schleiermacher’s theory of hermeneutical circle in particular, as well as considering the results of our former investigations we come to the conclusion that understanding verbal art is a complex process which is achieved step by step. To provide a reliable mechanism for the application of the hermeneutical approach the investigator has to take the following steps: 1) reveal the correlation of language and speech with the help of the linguostylistic method of analysis; 2) understand the aesthetic value of the work built up due to the complex relationship of the linguistic elements and the poetics of the work, which is brought out by the linguopoetic method of analysis; 3) come up to the metametasemiotic level of analysis which, in fact, belongs to the sphere of literature studies and helps reveal the intention of the author and the idea of the work.

This paper offers, first, an analysis and critique of John Henry Newman’s theorizing of real assent, in comparison with Jean-Luc Marion’s own phenomenological investigation of Revelation and Religious Experience. In conversation with the results of these analyses, I offer a critique of a certain hermeneutical criticism of Marion’s oeuvre. This, as I attempt to show, dovetails with certain strong criticisms towards Newman’s own interpretation of religious experience, insofar as it highlights the demand for some discussion or theorization of a standpoint beyond hermeneutic circularity.

Polemic of K.-O. Apel against H.-G. Gadamers philosophical hermeneutics moots the question about the difference between ontological and methodological approaches to the phenomenon of understanding. This problem is treated in the paper on the ground of the analysis of the role of subjectivity in the communicative and hermeneutical models of the two thinkers. The results is the contrast between the pragmatic “regulative idea” of the total subjectivity in Apel and the ontological destruction of subjectivity in Gadamer. The author assumes that it can contribute to the demarcation between pragmaticmethodological and ontological strategies in hermeneutics.

Abstract:
Miranda Fricker claims that a “gap” in collective hermeneutical resources with respect to the social experiences of marginalized groups prevents members of those groups from understanding their own experiences (Fricker 2007). I argue that because Fricker misdescribes dominant hermeneutical resources as collective, she fails to locate the ethically bad epistemic practices that maintain gaps in dominant hermeneutical resources even while alternative interpretations are in fact offered by non-dominant discourses. Fricker's analysis of hermeneutical injustice does not account for the possibility that marginalized groups can be silenced relative to dominant discourses without being prevented from understanding or expressing their own social experiences. I suggest that a gap in dominant hermeneutical resources is ambiguous between two kinds of unknowing: hermeneutical injustice suffered by members of marginalized groups, and epistemically and ethically blameworthy ignorance perpetrated by members of dominant groups.

Abstract:
S. Geniusas: Although Gadamer’s hermeneutics has suffered attacks from a number of philosophical perspectives, the profusion of criticisms seldom constitutes new challenges and for the most part is a reiteration of two seemingly opposite claims. On the one hand, we often hear that Gadamer’s hermeneutics is merely a disguised brand of the “philosophy of the subject” which under the pretext of openness reduces the Other to the self. On the other hand, it is just as often claimed that Gadamer’s writings fall into the category of the “hermeneutics of the fundamental questions” and therefore they cannot account for the selfhood of the self. Taking as its focus the theme of the oneness of the hermeneutical horizon(s), this paper argues that this theme carries no hegemonic or essentialist connotations. Rather, a careful analysis, which accentuates the negative and the dialectical elements of the oneness of horizons and the fact that this theme is for Gadamer both a presupposition and an achievement, reveals the shortcomings of both critiques. In the final analysis, the oneness of the horizon(s) is the dialogue that we ourselves are. Special attention is granted to Richard Kearney’s critique of Gadamer, to Gadamer’s critique of the incommensurabilist stance, and to the relevance of Gadamer’s hermeneutics in the context of today’s socio-political concerns. G. B. Madison: This essay is a companion piece to S. Geniusas’ “On the Oneness of the Hermeneutical Horizon(s)” and seeks to correct some of the serious misunderstandings of the philosophical hermeneutics of Hans-Georg Gadamer that one often encounters in the literature. It seeks above all to show how Gadamer’s commitment to philosophical universalism is ideally suited to enabling philosophy to confront the ethical challenges posed by the phenomenon of globalization.

Abstract:
The applied aspects of philosophical hermeneutics in connection with the formation of a special hermeneutic space in modern humanitarian culture are considered. The concept of meaning and understanding inherent in the ancient philosophical tradition is analyzed, the terminological aspects of the concept of understanding in its practical plane are considered. The hermeneutic method and its use in the analysis of specific semantic formations is associated with the concept of metaphor, which can be considered as a mediastinum of hermeneutic experience.Hermeneutics is a special aspect or turn in the development of European philosophy, which includes all other levels: ontology, epistemology, transcendental phenomenology and language philosophy. It is language that is the source from which the very possibility of hermeneutics arises. Language is the medium of hermeneutic comprehension of the world and today we observe in modern philosophy the situation of the formation of hermeneutical environment, a special semantic space in which we comprehend all the philosophical systems of the past and present. The hermeneutics constantly raises the question: is understanding possible in principle? It is not even a matter of whether we can understand Hesiod or the Bible. The question is whether we can understand ourselves and what this actually means. How adequate is the expressed meaning to the subject himself? The fundamental basis of hermeneutics, its ability and its necessity is the presence of external and internal in a word, speech, sign, etc. The presence of hidden meaning, metaphoricality, connotations, polysemy, personal meaning, etc. – this makes hermeneutics possible, even regardless of its real achievements. Here the principles of F. Schleiermacher are quite appropriate: 1. Everything that is subject to interpretation should be determined only from the language of the author and the original circle of readers. 2. The meaning of every word in a given place should be determined by its connection with the meaning of the context. For example, the Greek logos may mean, in various contexts, reason and law, prose and the Savior, which is, in general, a traditional problem of translation and translators. As a result, it should be noted that the problem of stratification of hermeneutic experience is fundamental for understanding the very essence of hermeneutics. This experience is not a separate form of it, at present we can talk about the fact that it permeates all humanitarian knowledge, which allows us to talk about the formation of a special hermeneutic cultural, semantic, semantic space in which any person should make sense. This attitude allows a completely different look at the role and tasks of hermeneutics on the way of turning it into a universal philosophical methodology.

Abstract:
Is an essay on the two approaches to hermeneutic analyses of a visual text. The author addresses the “Old man with his grandson” by Domenico Ghirlandaio as a visual text that needs understanding and interpretation. The first approach is based on the creation of a new, quasiartistic reality in the form of a dialogue in the classroom; it provides the holistic approach to understanding as a reconstructionexperience. The second one implements the proper hermeneutical analysis and involves tackling the interrelation of the basic hermeneutic concepts of “text” and “context”. Interpretations that apply this strictly logical method resemble the process of “preparation” and lose much in terms of the holistic humanistic approach. The author puts a question: which of the two approaches is deeper and more meaningful? A reader is to make a judgement.

Abstract:
The paper considers the St. Petersburg concept of emotional intelligence development as a promising approach to implementing linguoconceptology in education. The aim of the study was to test a concept analysis model built on the technology of mastering the key concepts of Russian culture and the theory of multiple intelligencies proposed by Howard Gardner. The three scientific approaches – emotional intelligence theory (D. Goleman), linguoconceptocentric theory (N. L. Mishatina) and classical hermeneutics (F. Schleiermacher) constitute the methodological framework of the research. From the standpoint of hermeneutics, investigating how learners understand and interpret the emotional concept ‘the images of the lyrical hero and the heroine’ in the prose poem "To the Memory of U. P. Vrevsky" by I. S. Turgenev highlights their progression from the formation of one emotional competence to another and finally to building and developing emotional intelligence. In the course of the hermeneutical study the lyrical hero’s image is considered from the viewpoint of the emotional linguistic persona; the text of the poem is discussed as an emotiogenic text. Within the framework of laboratories-studies a system of tasks was developed to form and develop learners’ emotional intelligence. The metaphors created by the teacher and the students as well as the text of a concept-centric essay comprise the results of doing the abovementioned tasks during laboratories-studies. Our data provide evidence that conceptual analysis enables learners to decode the emotional content of the author’s values and implications. The development model of emotional intelligence based on hermeneutical conceptual analysis provides an opportunity to internalize and reinterpret iconic cultural texts, bridge the cultural generation gap and put Generation Z into the context of world history.

Abstract:
The series of articles entitled «An Essay on the History and Hermeneutics ofphilosophy ofFalsafa» is dedicated to the studies of Abu Hamid Muhammad Ibn Muhammad Al- TusT´s work «NasihatAl-Muluk». The Persian philosopher of lth century Al-Ghazali went down in history as one of the brightest representatives of medieval Muslim apologetics. The study of his works allows turning to different aspects of life of the medieval Muslim East. One of´his mostfamousworks, «NasihatAl-Muluk», which is part of his fundamental theological study «The Elixir of Bliss», belongs to the genre of medieval Arabic-Muslim literature — so-called «Mirrors for princes» which are simplified retellings of fundamental philosophical views on state and politics of a certain thinker in plain language. These retellings help to comprehend in practice the essence of government by series of allegories and narratives. The conducted hermeneutical analysis of«Nasihat Al-Muluk» reveals the unique approach of a brilliant Persian philosopher to determination of complicated ethical questions that underlie the art of governing. The methodological approach of the French philosopher and literary critic Roland Barthes was taken as the analysis basis. The first and the second part of the essay contain the history of formation and evolution ofphilosophy ofFalsafa and the exposition of the fundamentals of the hermeneutical teaching of Roland Barthes which underlies the instrumental basis of the analysis.

He consistently refers to Kuyper's concept of common grace and transfers Kuyper's teaching into a hermeneutical approach to sociological analysis. First, the paper sketches Stackhouse's understanding of globalization as a theological process, then analyses the influences of Kuyper's theology of grace and finally shows the theological roots of Stackhouse's doctrine of grace and methodological problems associated with it. It closes with remarks on the opportunities and limits of Stackhouse's approach to the theological interpretation of globalization.

Abstract:
The theology of liberation poses social, hermeneutical, and theological issues when it asks, ‘Who is Jesus Christ for us today?’ The social question of human and political liberation is a matter in which theology cannot remain indifferent, though theology qua theology is not simply social analysis. The hermeneutical question of the influence of social context and ideology on biblical interpretation casts suspicion on methodological naïvety, though theology qua theology is not simply epistemology. Without ceasing to confront the social and hermeneutical aspects of theologizing, liberation theology unavoidably poses the Christological question, ‘Who is Jesus Christ?’

AbstractIn this paper, we make a hermeneutical analysis of internalism, the dominant tradition in the philosophy of sports. In order to accomplish this, we identify the prejudices that guide the internalist view of sports, namely the Platonic-Analytic prejudice introduced by Suits, one of the forefathers of internalism. Then, we critically analyze four consequences of following such a prejudice: a) its reductive nature, b) the production of a unrealistic view of sports, c) the vagueness of the idea of excellence; and d) the leap from the descriptive analysis of the sporting phenomenon to the setting of normative requirements for the practice of sports.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the analysis of pilgrimage in a practical and philosophical context. Considering it as a socio-cultural phenomenon allows us to explore not only the spiritual and religious meanings of this activity. Pilgrimage, as an activity initially aimed at gaining and understanding of meanings and events, is closely linked to the hermeneutic tradition. By applying the principle of historicism, using the comparative and hermeneutical method and the method of contextual analysis, the author presents an attempt at an interdisciplinary study of pilgrimage. It is shown that the use of hermeneutical concepts formulated by V. Diltey, G.-G. Gadamer and P. Riker contributes to the understanding of various objective and subjective aspects of this activity. Pilgrimage is considered in its directed procedurality and activity, an important element of which is the knowledge of the meanings contained in the symbols that accompany and define this path. It is concluded that in addition to the sacred and existential contexts, which are meaning-forming, objective and collective components are no less important, as evidenced by the genre of pilgrimage literature and its evolution. It is shown that as a result of the spread of knowledge and secularization processes, the system of values changes and pilgrimage, in addition to preserving traditional ones, acquires new goals and forms associated with changing the concept of the sacred. In the modern understanding, the connection with communication and educational activities, with tradition and identification processes becomes important. The development of the information society indicates a further change in value orientations and devaluation of the original meanings of pilgrimage activities. Pilgrimage today is a special subject of research in various scientific fields, it is also discussed in the context of tourism as one of its directions. One of the main questions concerns the place, status and significance of pilgrimage in modern society.

Abstract:
The aim of this study is addressed to environmental problems from the perspective of the Qur'an. The focus of the research is the anthropocentric verses in the Qur'an. Anthropocentric verses are verses that have the meaning of humans as the center of the universe or humans as creatures that are super-being. The categorization of anthropocentric verses is compiled thematically (maudhû’î) using a contextual hermeneutic approach. The classification of anthropocentric verses as a result of this research are: 1) Humans as the most glorified creatures 2) Humans as creatures that have power in nature, and 3) Humans as caliphs on earth. Several hermeneutical analyzes of the anthropocentric verse have been obtained. Human must not be arrogant as creatures that degrees are glorified. Humans are instructed not to cause damage on the earth and must be able to do good ihsân to all creatures created by Allah SWT. The obligation of humans as caliphs on earth is to prosper the earth rather than damage the earth

Abstract:
The concept of Faith and Islam is one of the important teachings in Islam. In fact, it has become an outline of Islam which consists of three pillars, namely the Aqeedah (Pillars of Faith), Sharia (Pillars of Islam), and Morals (Ihsan). However, Fazlur Rahman provides another formula for the concept, namely Faith, Islam and Taqwa. So, the purpose of this research is to understand the concepts of Faith, Islam and Taqwa based on Fazlur Rahman's thinking. This research refers to Fazlur's library of sources used in analyzing the theory of hermeneutics. The hermeneutic theory used in this research is Dilthey's hermeneutics. The results of this study are: 1) Fazlur Rahman's biography is arranged in the frame of experiences-understanding which consists of all Fazlur Rahman's life experiences, evolution of Fazlur Rahman's thoughts and works, and Fazlur Rahman's constellation of contemporary Arab thinkers who classify him as a reconstructive reformative thinker. 2) Dilthey's hermeneutical analysis of Fazlur Rahman's thinking is to produce an understanding that Fazlur Rahman's entire life experience influences his main idea, neo-modernism. Then it is arranged in the form of a systematic methodology, namely the double movement theory which is used to examine the basic principles of the Qur’an in the form of ethics. The key terms of the Qur'anic ethics are Faith, Islam and Taqwa. So that the formula of Faith and Islam according to Fazlur Rahman is different from the understanding of Faith and classical Islam.

Abstract:
The ArgumentContemporary natural sciences succeed remarkably well in ensuring a relatively continuous transmission of their cognitively relevant traditions and in creating a widely shared background consensus among their practitioners – hermeneutical ends seemingly achieved without hermeneutical awareness or explicitly acquired hermeneutical skills. It is a historically specific – emerging only in the nineteenth century – cultural organization of the Author-Text-Reader relation which endows them with such an ease of hermeneutical achievements: an institutionally fixed form of textual and intertextual practices, normatively posited ways of adequate reception and criticism, etc. The same organization also explains a number of their often-discussed epistemic and cultural characteristics: their depersonalized objectivity, the social closure of their discourse and their reduced cultural significance, the shallow historical depth of their activated traditions, etc.The cognitive structure and the social function of contemporary natural sciences are intimately interwoven with a set of sui generis cultural relations that are partially fixed in the textual characteristics of their literary objectivations. A comparative hermeneutical analysis of natural sciences as a specifically constituted and institutionalized cultural genre or discourse-type brings into relief those contingent cultural conditions and relations to which some of their fundamental epistemological characteristics are bound, or at least with which they are historically closely associated.

Interreligious hermeneutics is an area of research which has developed rapidly in recent years. Studies include both general discussions about hermeneutical and methodological issues related to interreligious encounters, and more specific discussions of the interreligious engagement with religious scriptures. This article focuses on the latter, and more specifically on the contribution of interreligious scriptural reading to the practice of dialogue. It discusses how, and to what extent, reading and studying scriptures of another religious tradition than one’s own could contribute constructively in the context of interreligious dialogue. The discussion is based on an analysis of empirical examples of Thai Buddhist readings of Old Testament wisdom texts.

Abstract:
The author describes and illustrates a hermeneutically grounded interpretive framework for deriving marketing-relevant insights from the “texts” of consumer stories and gives an overview of the philosophical and theoretical foundations of this approach. Next, the author describes a hermeneutic framework for interpreting the stories consumers tell about their experiences of products, services, brand images, and shopping. An illustrative analysis demonstrates how this framework can be applied to generate three levels of interpretation: (1) discerning the key patterns of meanings expressed by a given consumer in the texts of his or her consumption stories, (2) identifying key patterns of meaning that emerge across the consumption stories expressed by different consumers, and (3) deriving broader conceptual and managerial implications from the analysis of consumer narratives. This hermeneutic approach is compared and contrasted to the means—end chains laddering framework, the “voice of the customer” approach to identifying consumer needs, and market-oriented ethnography. The author concludes with a discussion that highlights the types of marketing insights that can result from a hermeneutic interpretation of consumers’ consumption stories and then addresses the roles creativity and expertise play in this research orientation.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to develop an innovative branding method based on the hermeneutical approach and interpretive theory, to respond to the need of a simple and effective tool to build corporate identity through an industrial brand identity design and, being a new business, has been considered the brand perception of their stakeholders as the main input to analyze. Design/methodology/approach The case study of a small- and medium-sized enterprise (SME), that produces nanomaterials for the business-to-business (B2B) industrial market, is used to design the new hermeneutic branding method. The methodology process has been structured in four phases that have marked the investigation and that correspond to four different levels of knowledge that, in succession, between them, constituted the so-called hermeneutic circle. Findings This new approach allowed us to understand the social phenomenon related to the brand: its characteristic, context and the brand itself. Though hermeneutic analysis has confirmed that business strategy is only part of a more complex system of brand management, it must also consider the competitive environment and the views of the stakeholders. Practical implications This paper contributes to research on industrial branding by adopting the hermeneutical approach in managerial practice. This paper is the first of its kind in detail modelling the design phases of a B2B brand, providing an operational tool for marketing specialists. Originality/value There is a lack of research studies in the methods for designing industrial brands. The contribution of this paper lies in proposing a new interpretative approach that, acknowledging the different expectations of the stakeholder in the supply chain, allows to draw a B2B brand that communicates the system values of the product and company.

This interdisciplinary article argues that media messages play an important role in worldview formation across cultural contexts. Therefore, youth ministry needs to integrate media engagement in its reflection and practice. The article outlines a methodological approach for content analysis of media messages, with worldview theory as the key hermeneutical perspective. Classic Disney films are used as case study, as an influential tradition with its themes and values carried on into ever new formats. Finally, the article reflects missiologically on points of contact and points of tension in relation to the case study, and proposes “double listening” as a key practice in youth ministry, with hermeneutics, didactics, and formation as a threefold approach.

Abstract:
A principal theme of hermeneutical phenomenology of science has been to analyze the status of theoretical entities. In Ginev’s ambitious analysis of contemporary trends in hermeneutic phenomenology of science, for instance, one of the two “hermeneutic circles” he describes involves the constitution of objects of inquiry, as “mathematized entities” associated with data-models, which has a formal side in theory and an empirical side in experimentation. The question then arises of the relation between the two sides; the danger, he puts it, is a theoretical essentialism which is implied when the mathematical projection is conceived as operationalized by experiment. Ginev’s proposal to avoid this involves the concept of “inscription.” This paper proposes another approach, covariant realism, which draws from Heidegger’s notion of “formal indication” and which makes explicit the temporality of theoretical objects in the flow of the research process. Heidegger developed his notion as an integral part of his hermeneutics of facticity; its motivation was the need to develop a discourse adequate for pre-theoretical experience. While it may seem strange to apply this idea so far out of context, it seems poised to address certain long-standing problems in the philosophy of science, those of incommensurability and scientific theory change. Formal indication characterizes phenomena that are understood to be provisionally grasped, already interpreted, and anticipated as able to show themselves differently in different contexts. The value of this admittedly nonstandard transformation of Heidegger’s concept suggests deeper possibilities for continentally-inspired approaches to understanding science practice than have hitherto been explored.

Abstract:
Various scholars have speculated about the possible link between the Fourth Gospel and drama. Such a connection, if valid, could potentially lead to the widening of hermeneutical lenses with which the Gospel is explored. While the exegetical field of biblical performance criticism has begun to break open the hermeneutical field by introducing performative and oral elements into the conversation, an attempt to formulate a methodology for a drama analysis of the text still needs to be made. This article evaluates the possibility of reading the Fourth Gospel through a drama lens in order to explore its possible performative impact on a first-time hypothetical audience. The article experiments with possible parameters of biblical drama criticism and how the translation of the text into stage-script format could be useful in academic and ecclesial spaces. Such a translation invites new experiences with the text and an expansion of the hermeneutical spectrum to include various non-textual elements like sound and sight. Moreover, it widens the hermeneutical scope to explore the audience’s own (vulnerable) journey with the performance by taking their possible struggle(s) with the drama seriously.

Abstract:
This study concerns the hermeneutics of the occultation of the twelfth imam through the immense literature of the Shaykhiyya of Kirman (Iran). Generally speaking, the different masters of the Order used two main hermeneutical ‘axioms’: 1) all reality is composed, at least, of two levels: the manifest/exoteric and the hidden/esoteric; 2) the notion of the universe as macrocosm, man as microcosm and the correspondence between them. For this reason, the article is divided into two parts. First, the esoteric aspect of ‘the Occultation in the world’ is an analysis of the principle of the Fourth Pillar (rukn rābi) and its three fundamental components: the ‘invisible’ Friends of the hidden imam, Unicity of the Speaker and Alliance/Dissociation. The second part concerns the esoteric meaning of ‘the Occultation within man’ and examines symbolic and theological hermeneutics, respectively through the work of Sayyid Kāzim Rashtī, the second master of the Order (d. 1259/1843) and the commentaries on the famous hadith ‘Who knows himself, knows his Lord’.

Following Helen Savage’s work on transgender Christians’ spirituality, I concede her three observed hermeneutical methods: 1) establishing a hierarchy of texts, 2) resolution through historical criticism, and 3) changing the subject. I also add to her observations two additional observed methods: 4) self-insertion and 5) Scripture as precedent. These observations noted, the landscape of transgender Christians’ theologies is revealed as more diverse than others have previously anticipated, and increasingly so. This research also opens up space for theologians, scholars, and clergy to understand transgender hermeneutics and theology with a greater deal of nuance and care.

AbstractThe article argues that there is a need for a thorough philosophical inquiry into the epistemological basis of instrumental teaching. This kind of inquiry has not previously been undertaken. The way in which practitioners within the instrumental-pedagogical field are often making subjective and individual references to taste (taste-argument) and tradition (tradition-argument) in order to legitimize the self-understanding of the instrumental-pedagogical field, is critiqued. Hans-Georg Gadamer’s Philosophical Hermeneutics and his opus magnum, Truth and Method, are primarily informing the hermeneutical and epistemological analysis and critique of the instrumental-pedagogical praxis. The aim of the article is not only to point to the absence of epistemological research, but also to sketch the foundation for a future constructive discussion about the cultivation of critical self-understanding of the instrumental-pedagogical field.

Mobile phones become an affordable device in our lives since it is ubiquitous and the function is now not only for communication but also beyond that. This study aims to give the readers more insight into the use of a mobile phone in writing skills by using a hermeneutical approach. Participants were undergraduate students at age 18-20 (N=16). The descriptive analysis results reveal that a significant number of students notice that writing is considered the most challenging skill since they have to organize all aspects to produce good writing. Thus, a hermeneutical approach is needed to examine their difficulties in writing skills.
