Full textSummary / abstractLinda Gustavsson (2015). Pedagogical investigation as a working tool. An hermeneutic analysis. Special education program, School Development and Leadership, Learning and Society, Malmö UniversityBackgroundThere is an immanent lack of research on pedagogical investigations and it is unknown to which extent these investigations are useful tools for educators. Therefore, this study examines models of pedagogical investigations in more detail. The study targets investigation templates that are used to identify a student's situation at school before an action plan is established. The underlying reason is to observe how the template's design affects the description of the student's situation at school and how it shapes the need for assistance in the investigation. The study is based on the following research questions:• How are the learning environment, teaching content and methods described?• How are the student's special needs described?• How is student and guardian involvement covered?TheoryThe study follows a system theory approach, because a holistic perspective is necessary when investigating students in need of special support. The branch of system theory that this study focuses on is Bronfenbrenner’s ecology of development, which offers a model for analyzing students from a holistic perspective. In addition, the application of various perspectives of the field of special-need education contributes to a balanced picture of how the investigation templates relate to policy documents.MethodThe study analyses the texts qualitatively following a hermeneutic approach. General hermeneutic ideas of how to interpret and analyze texts are therefore the basis of this study. Accordingly, the comprehension of a message and not its explanation is the focus of this study. The analysis is built on a systematic description of the content of the investigations using a coding scheme. The coding units /items that are found are used in the further analysis of the material.ResultsOne of five schools maps the learning environment in the pedagogical investigation. Most schools do not question their ways of organizing their activities. Three schools describe the different approaches and methods they are using, but these descriptions are not extensive. The student’s source of difficulties is generally found on the individual level. Investigators do usually not examine or analyze learning situations that have turned out to been functionally adequate for the students. Possible tools or areas that students need support with are expressed in all investigations. The learning situations or environments that could be improved are however only described to a lesser extent (5 out of 11 schools). Methods, procedures and ways of organizing activities to support students are mentioned in all the investigations but two. The descriptions are however often rather unspecific on questions such as on how to do what.Neither are inquiry templates thoroughly good or bad, nor do teachers have either categorical or relational perspectives. Instead it is often a combination of factors on multiple levels that causes a student to be described at school, group and/ or individual levels. To be able to investigate at school, group and individual level a special-need educator needs to be aware that it may require a long-term developmental work in order to succeed. This also includes the supervision of educators. Special-need teacher should highlight the categorical and relational perspectives to those who work in school so that own roles and activities can be assessed with critical self-reflection.Keywords: document analysis, educational assessment, school, group and individual level, special needs, system theory

Full textWe humans often think about who we are. Often these thoughts are about what we want to become. We face many questions about identity and life issues. Life issues as a concept can be difficult to interpret and we often mix this concept with other concepts such as existential issues, philosophy of life, life interpretations, etc. In another context, life issues are associated with ethics and morality. For example, life issues may refer to questions about what is important in life, what is the purpose of life, what is good and evil, what is right and wrong etc. Life issues in a school book can also be associated with virtues, moral and ethics. Based on previous research, I have wanted to examine and clarify how the questions of life are presented in three school books. In the first place, I have focused on life issues addressed in the three school books for Religion 1 for high school. The books I have chosen to analyze are Religion 1 by Birgitta Thulin and Sten Elm, Religion 1 & 2 also written by Birgitta Thulin and Sten Elm and Religion och andra livsåskådnigar by Börje Ring. In the background of my examination are text analysis method and hermeneutic. According to what has emerged in my study, life issues can be associated with philosophical questions, existential questions, life questions, etc. Life issues, in my study material, among other things, are about life and death, ethics and morality, sex and relationships, virtues etc. Briefly, I can say that the school books in my research, are adapted to the curriculum, and they contain a lot of discussion questions. The discussion questions are intended for students' discussions and assignments in different forms.

Full textArabic is the language of the Holy Qur'an, which was revealed to the Prophet Mohammed (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) who in turn dictates it to His companions. The Prophet's companions did not encounter any difficulty in the understanding and comprehension of the Qur‘anic verses simply because the Qur'an was revealed in a language variety with which they have been quite familiar. Yet, the companions of the prophet differ in their understanding of the Qur'an. Their understanding may vary according to their competencies and their closeness to the prophet. In addition, the Qur'an includes verses that appear to be contradictory. Some verses of the Qur'an, for instance, may imply that man is free to select either the path of faith or the path of blasphemy.

Full textThe nursing scientific concept of reconciliation creates an opportunity for people to experience an emotional satisfaction in life. Reconciliation takes place inside the human and creates an opportunity to unite with difficult life situations. The purpose of this study was to explain what reconciliation is and how it takes shape in nursing. The results explain reconciliations different proportions inside the human. Reconciliation can be represented as a human acceptance, as a human's ability to regain control, as a human hope, as a human change and as a human process. A model in the result presents the different proportions of reconciliations. Together the different proportions form the infinite of reconciliation that together creates the inner core of reconciliation. The different proportions of reconciliation are constantly in motion. There is missing evidence for reconciliation in nursing science. If more sciences performed, nurses can get implements for the care process to understand how reconciliation takes shape in human and how nurses can promote reconciliations for patients.

Full textBackground Many mothers who have given birth premature wish to breast feed their children for immunological reasons and as a compensation for a pregnancy that ended too early. The breast feeding may be complicated and in need of great patience as the child might need health care. Depending of the baby´s sensitivity it can vary in time for a child to start breast feeding. One of the important reasons for the mother to get her breast feeding started is to make milk production start, corresponding to the amount of milk that a fully mature baby would need. To get a sufficient production it is important to start emptying the breasts quick as possible after having given full extend. Aim with the study was to illuminate the meaning of emptying the breasts for mothers whos baby was born premature. Method Seven mothers who had given birth before week 34 and had experienced emptying breasts. The data collection come from interviews and the results have been analyzed by a fenomenological hermenutichal approach. Results shows that emptying the breasts is done without any effort but that mothers are eager to look at their own needs at the same time as their own needs are being put aside. The hospital care can make the women feel left out and controlled. Self-confidence gets important as well as the structure. When the result is not as you had planned sadness make you realize that things cannot be changed. The feeling of managing, understanding and meaningfulness fills you up. Conclusions looking at it from a scientific perspective it is very important to consider the individual mothers experience in how to empty the breasts from milk and how to strengthen her self-confidence.

Full textBackground: There is a connection between the pregnant woman's expectations of childbirth and the actual childbirth experience. Aim: To illustrate multiparous women’s expectations of their forthcoming childbirth. Method: This study used a qualitative method with hermeneutic text analysis inspired by Gadamer. Nine multiparous women aged 26-33 years were interviewed using a semi-structured interview guide. Results: Analysis of the interviews revealed four main themes: Mixed emotions – expectations are formed by the first childbirth experience, The partner – for some, an important source of support, The midwife as a guide through childbirth and “Go with the flow” - expectations of control during childbirth. Results showed that the women held the opinion that the first childbirth experience has a major impact on their expectations for future childbirth, both good and bad. There was a concern amongst the women that because of their previous childbirth experience, they would be expected to "know what to do". Conclusion: Women generally have positive expectations of childbirth. Given the concern of these multiparous women that they may be considered as experienced in childbirth, it is clear that the midwife should be prepared to offer professional support to multiparous women based on their individual needs.

Full textThe aim of this study is to examine experiences of placements in foster care, with the main focus on relations and the importance of the foster family. The study is based on the qualitative, hermeneutic approach with a thematic analysis made on the answers of the participants’ written accounts. The participants consisted of persons with different experiences of foster care, either they had previously been placed in out of home care, or they worked as social workers. The themes that seemed to characterize experiences of placements in foster care was family life, emotions and development, which to a great extend also depended on the attitudes of the parties involved. These are factors which appeared to affect both how successful the placement become, and whether a relationship arises between the foster home and the person placed in foster care. Based on these results it can be concluded that placements in foster care are complex and include various factors. As the placements outcome seems influenced by the attitudes of the parties concerned, it is important to work towards ensuring that all concerned are positive and that the person who is placed receive help, in order to be able to benefit from the care offered from the foster family and emotionally embrace them.

"The hermeneutical nexus of an undenominational Bible school : an application of philosophical hermeneutics and the literary analysis of Paul Ricoeur to the Carroll model for congregational studies." Full textENGLISH ABSTRACT: The hermeneutical nexus and an undenominational Bible School. This dissertation arose out of reflections on the Carroll Handbook Jor Congregational Studies and inter alia seeks to give a philosophical base to that work. Noting the frequent references to hermeneutical principles, the researcher found that one of them were dealt with adequately in considering congregations as carriers of faith. There being no difference in principle between a congregation and a Bible School, the dissertation deals with both. It was apparent that there is a nexus (a binding together) of hermeneutical principles and processes in such an institution that forms the thick discourse in these carriers of faith. Having been associated with a Bible School for a quarter of a century, the researcher was aware that such institutions, like congregations were badly in need of a metacritical approach in order to meet changing conditions and new challenges. This dissertation attempts as a starting point to have a better understanding of the identity of the institution. The Bible School, as an historical reality, has had and still has a vast influence particularly in the Third World. This was exemplified by the growth and flowering of so-called Bible School Movement which is described and which revealed hermeneutical principles and processes which were essentially describing its identity in broad terms. Some of these processes are critiqued. In an attempt to find a central focus for a Bible School, the researcher found that subject to the main purpose of the church (the increase among men of the love of god and one's neighbour according to H Richard Niebuhr) there are in fact so many foci among Bible Schools that he could only conclude that God uses the gifts He gives to His Church in different ways and different circumstances as He wills. It was then found necessary to examine the application of hermeneutics to an institution seeing that metacriticism is a hermeneutical exercise and Carroll used many terms implying hermeneutics. For this purpose foundations were sought in Schleiermacher, Dilthey, Gadamer and especially Paul Ricoeur. Hermeneutics changed fundamentally over the period covered by these scholars, from a psychological to a literary base. The researcher found it necessary to draw from both the psychological and the literary approaches. He seeks to make a synthesis between Carroll (and Hopewell who initiated Carroll's work) and Ricoeur because the most fundamental methodology of both require a narrative form, a text. Regrettably Carroll was unable to give any philosophical base to his main point of "sum it up in story' which meant that the life of the congregation over a selected period of time was to be reduced to a narrative. This has been called the thick discourse of the congregation. The philosophical hermeneutics of Ricoeur, however, gives an advanced literary analysis and the researcher extrapolates and applies this to institutions to make a synthesis with Carroll's institutional insights. A key element in Ricoeur's hermeneutics is that discourse is the event of language and is understood as meaning. In the synthesis attempted this thick discourse of the institution is expounded as a kind of locutionary act, i.e. a speech act. The thick discourse of the institution is multi-faceted covering language, culture, time, space and matter, which are the events of discourse understood as meaning. The Carroll model requires that the congregational story be reduced to narrative form, i.e. a text. It follows that the Ricoeurean concepts of distanciation and appropriation as applied to institutions take effect and these ultimately involves the congregation in an enlarged selfunderstanding. In the appropriation of the text to which the congregational discourse is reduced, a new world-view emerges, a different self-identity is discovered. This, the -- researcher suggests, requires a postlocutionary act so that from being-in-the-world the institution becomes something new. Becoming (one of Carroll's main concepts) requires reimaging and re-imaging requires metacriticism. For this focus and boundaries are required as an institution is an open system. In the end a complementary relationship between Carroll and Ricoeur is advocated as part of a thick discourse in this preliminary study of institutional hermeneutics.
Daarin is egter grense nodig waarbinne 'n instelling as 'n nuwe oop sisteem kan funksioneer. Aan die einde word dus 'n komplementere verhouding tussen Carroll en Ricoeur voorgestel as deel van genoemde "thick discourse" as die basis van hierdie voorlopige navorsing oor institutionele hermeneutiek.

The purpose of this study was to understand and show/clarify the dialogical and emancipating practices that sustain/ support the work with parents and educators in the construction and exchanging educational knowledge in a multipliers training course for educational study/work with families, led by Ecofam Group from PUC- SP. We identify nowadays a demand for a knowledge based on experience, different from the functional objective and pragmatic knowledge that prevails in the Western tradition. Relying on references and phenomenological thought of Paulo Freire a hermeneutic analysis was done with multipliers, performed/ carried out on a course of two years/ during a length of two years of studies/ during a period of two years. The result, described the changes in all participants and identified aspects that allowed such changes. Multipliers and parents had initial difficulties to understand the dialogical practices, but along the way/ but overtime they showed the development of a more autonomous attitude with the spontaneous creation of critical and substantiated interventions to education and community issues. The researchers needed to deal with the loss/ to deal with the breakdown of their initial expectations, making a constant review of their practices and proposals and presenting an opening for alterations/ for modifications only possible with a permanent contact with the principles that guided/ that shaped this work. For these changes, it was considered as fundamental aspects, a close relationship between doing and thinking and the possibility of experiencing the concepts presented in a theory , besides that, the confidence that the multipliers could think and act as critical and reflective people. It was always essential to have the visions of the human being/ man , world and education that guide the choices of actions during the course. The dialogue was seen as a tool for the construction and exchange of a knowledge in a perspective different to the reproduction of technical naturalized knowledge

Full textThis study is a research on how people describe meaning from themselves in relation to our time. For this purpose, psychological areas such as existential, positive and religious psychology as well as parts of religion and existential philosophy has been utilized. The study’s empirical data has been gathered from interviews with four informants who have been recruited through a convenience sample at a university in southern Sweden. The material has subsequently been interpreted and analyzed based on hermeneutic methodology and thematic analysis. What emerged from the study as important for the perception of meaning was freedom and the informants' intention to have a future family, on the other hand, meaning was not considered a final destination or a goal, but it was described as a changing process in which several factors play a role.

At the beginning, it will be accomplished a general panorama of the crisis situation of the law and of the penal Brazilian System at the present. Following, the fundamental presupposition of the philosophical hermeneutic that will fit as an instrument of rupture with the way of thinking proposed by the legal dogmatic. Subsequently, an hermeneutic approach about the proportion principle, in its double sense, will be done: the prohibition of the excess and the prohibition of the deficient protection. At the end, the way how this principle can fit, as a sense vector for a suitable interpretation regarding the protection of the fundamental values found in the Brazilian Federal Constitution of 1988, will be shown

Full textThis thesis investigates if privatization of the Swedish healthcare system influences our view on the meaning of equality. This system is based on the principle that all people are equals and that healthcare should be provided on the basis of need. I apply critical ideology analysis to investigate how our view of equality might change because of the evolvement of society. A critical view may be explained as an interest in exploring things that seem obvious to many. Important questions to answer are why equality is regarded as such a natural concept in the society and how healthcare is actually provided. I analyze government documents, such as debates and inquiries about privatization and identify a complexity regarding the conception of equality and its relation to ideas of freedom and justice.

Full textOur perception is that international adoption and international adoptees often are associated with the tv-program Spårlöst shown on TV4. This could mean that the program may have a great influence over the images of adoption and adoptees shown in media. Therefore, we have chosen to do a qualitative text analysis which examines how Spårlöst portrays international adoption and international adoptees. The purpose of the study is to highlight and critically view the portrayals. We hope our study will contribute to a more including media society concerning adoption and adoptees. The study is based on constructivism and its orientation on social constructionism. The study’s analytical material is chosen from the episodes that were shown in the fall season of 2016 by using the dramaturgical curve. We can interpret the content of the text and distinguish the portrayals in the program by using the hermeneutics. The interpretations are also supported by the principle of charity. The study’s conclusions are that international adoption mainly is portrayed as a way to better conditions, but also as a profit organization and as unsafe. Further conclusions are that adoptees often are portrayed as positive towards their adoption. The adoptees are also portrayed as identity seeking and curious people. The study also shows that adoptees value relationships within the family.

Full textThis work is located in the textual production area and approaches the revealing of implicit meanings in the poetical language of Guimarães Rosa in a short story of Tutaméia (Terceiras Estórias), with the title João Porém, o criador de perus (João Porém, the Turkey Breeder). From a reference system guided by the author, the clues and misleads of the Aletria e hermenêutica foreword, we seek to unveil the secrets of the ingenious enunciation of Guimarães Rosa, which is characterized by the poetical language with which the author creates and recreates lexical units for the linguistic representation of the text. This study is theoretically based on the principles of Critical Discourse Analysis with a social and cognitive branch, of Textual Linguistics, and on studies carried out in relation to the poetical language. Following Jauss (1989), we performed a heuristic, which is linear. Then, we performed the hermeneutic reading, which is non-linear, complemented by inter-texts of a variety of knowledge areas. The findings demonstrate that in the selected short story, the story of João Porém, a back-country dweller that prospers and that brings prosperity to his home county, creates love and remains loyal to a maiden made up by his fellow countrymen, may be defined as belonging to an abstraction. Its purpose is not restricted to entertainment, but to provide learning to readers on the poetical language, which literarily represents the oral mineira variety, on transcendence, with references to platonic reminiscences and in disguise, alluding to the golden years of Brazilian culture
