Full textThis thesis studies, throughout the political parties in Albania, the difficult democratization of a post-totalitarian society. The parties cope with a representation mechanism inside a democratic political system. Their study and that of party systems remains an essential research subject in order to understand the functioning in Central and Eastern Europe’s new democracies, such as Albania. Parties and party systems are the main actors in politics for post-communist societies and, moreover, appear as the main bearers of social identities. The analysis of political parties and political systems, as well as that of the main political actors, should allow for a better understanding of the democratization process in Albanian political society. The topic explains the birth and development of the pluralist political space in Albania beginning with the 1990s. The purpose of this thesis is to follow the creation processes, the development and the stabilization of these political parties and the party system. Thus, this subject analyzes the political parties origins and the ideological differences existing between them, in order to identify those which can claim the conquest of power, and measure the depth of political pluralism consequences, in a society having experienced more than 45 years of communism, and also specify their finance sources. Albanian political life since 1991 has experienced permanent fluctuations, with the creation and death of political parties, coalitions, the emergence and development of major parties, conflicts and political crises. What remains the common denominator of these 30 years with regard to political parties is their dominant position in relation to institutions, to the law and to society itself and their adoption of a variety of roles ultimately fairly close to those played by the party-state in the communist period. In Albania, political parties overstep their role. They enjoy great power, insofar as they have means of control over all the powers, legislative, executive and judicial powers
Dos, Santos Jessica. "L’utopie en héritage. La Société du Familistère de Guise, de la mort de Jean-Baptiste Godin à la dissolution de l’association (1888-1968)." Thesis, Lille 3, 2012. http://www.theses.fr/2012LIL30006/document.
Full textWhen he dies in 1888, Jean-Baptiste Godin leaves his workers a multi-sided legacy : a prosperous industry whose share capital and profits belong to all the employees, several buildings allowing the workers to live as a community, a complete social and educational system. His successors' charge is therefore to take on this whole inheritance and to preserve it, despite the economical upheavals and the social changes. However, the Guise "Familistère" Society finds it hard to maintain its balance under the simultaneous influence of tradition, industrial competition and social progress. Though Godin's name and memory remain essential pieces of the association identity, they are not enough to protect endlessly its unity. Faced with strong economical difficulties, the workers decide to dissolve their association in May 1968, during the social movement

Full textThis thesis deals with the General Reconstruction Plan for Moscow of 1935. This plan is analysed in terms of Russian cultural traditions from before the Soviet period which survived due to the continuity of personnel. The genesis of the plan is studied in terms of the interaction between architects and political leaders. Particular attention is paid to economic factors, despite the symbolic dimension of the operation. Finally, the thesis demonstrates the gap between the proposed plan and its ultimate realisation and analyses the means by which the plan was adapted to the existing city
Iosa, Ioana. "Nationalisme roumain et monumentalité. Le centre civique comme affirmation de réussite nationale." Thesis, Paris Est, 2009. http://www.theses.fr/2009PEST3015.
Full textThis paper aims to place the monumental apology represented by the Civic Center of Bucharest in its urban and socio-political context. Therefore we have analysed the reasons and decisions that led to the way it was conceived and set up, and in addition we have tried to rebuild the narrative of the history of Bucharest through the city’s prominent built heritage. For this reason we have looked into the relations between the fact of erecting buildings and remarkable spaces and the (re)construction of a Romanian national identity, beginning with the Declaration of independence and ending with the European integration, the latter standing for the supreme legitimacy granted to the Romanian State. Therefore this research engages into the analysis of the mechanisms involved in using architectural and urban productions as instruments for defining and promoting national identity. In addition it fills a gap of almost non-existent scientific work dealing with the Civic Center, which is, due to the exceptional efforts engaged in its construction, in the same time Bucharest’s emblem and scar. Finally, it deals with the question of the reception of “ideologically charged” buildings, and more generally, with the fate of urban heritage inherited from totalitarian regimes

Full textResiliency is the capacity to adjust to threats and mitigate or avoid harm; it can be found in hazard-resistant buildings or adaptive social systems (Pelling, 2003). Hence, it can also be understood as the ability to rebuild a neighbourhood with stronger and more viable components. Almost four years after Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans is seen as an open laboratory in which the level of resiliency of its communities can be examined. The rebuilding status of its neighbourhoods widely differs from one to another. The historic district of Holy Cross is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in the city; this vulnerable community is known for its cultural heritage, apparent not only in its unique architecture but also its social relations. This research investigates the current process of rebuilding a more sustainable and resilient Holy Cross by assessing the efficiency of stakeholders involved in the reconstruction of affordable opportunities that work to encourage former residents to return. It also demonstrates the current efforts to build new sustainable projects while keeping the patrimonial style of the neighbourhood.
Mimouni, El-Amine. "Diversité et structure du zooplancton : importance pour la conservation de la biodiversité aquatique en zone urbaine." Thèse, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/1866/13590.
Full textUrban ecology is an emerging research field that seeks to understand the structures and patterns of communities and ecosystems located in urban landscapes. Small waterbodies are known as aquatic ecosystems that can harbour notable biodiversity for various taxonomic groups (birds, amphibians, macroinvertebrates), making them interesting ecosystems for conservation studies. However, the biodiversity of zooplankton, a central element of aquatic trophic networks, is still not entirely known for urban waterbodies and should be better described and understood. This study examined the biodiversity patterns of zooplanktonic communities in urban waterbodies on the Island of Montreal and their sources of variation. Suggestions for biodiversity assessment and for biodiversity preservation are also discussed. Zooplankton biodiversity urban waterbodies proved to be quite high, with cladoceran and rotifer taxa showing the highest contributions to gamma and beta diversity. Across waterbodies, there was a negative correlation between the contributions to cladoceran and rotifer beta diversity. Within waterbodies, the littoral zone showing macrophytes proved to be an important habitat for zooplankton biodiversity, considerably contributing species richness, often with a different species composition. Zooplankton communities responded to bottom-up and top-down forces, but also management practices, as waterbody emptying in winter affected zooplankton community composition. Cladoceran communities in these waterbodies showed varying amounts of phylogenetic diversity, which allowed them to be ranked in order to prioritize sites to preserve with regards to phylogenetic diversity. Selection of sites to preserve in order to maximize phylogenetic diversity should be properly guided, in order to avoid making suboptimal choices. However, for taxa such as Cladocera, for which phylogenetic relationships remain difficult to establish, placing absolute confidence in a single tree is a dangerous procedure. Incorporation of phylogenetic uncertainty showed that, when it is taken into account, then several potential differences in phylogenetic diversity were not supported anymore. Community composition patterns differed between waterbodies, months and sampling zones. Due to the presence of significant interactions between these factors, this indicates that all these factors should be considered. Urbanization did not seem to select for a single type of feeding group composition, as communities in waterbodies could shift between assemblages with different feeding types. Environmental variables, especially waterbody macrophyte coverage, were important factors for zooplankton biodiversity, positively affected species richness of various taxonomic groups and feeding groups. These variables also affected community composition, but to a lesser extent, being modest predictor variables, indicating the need to consider other processes.
