The thesis aims to investigate women’s everyday experiences of navigating the relationships between home and work in order to understand spatial and perceptual boundaries and opportunities that are inherent, constructed and implied within the city’s urban form. Boundaries refer to restrictions imposed on women by social structures through constructed space, and opportunities refer to ways in which the built environment either does or could improve women’s urban experience. These issues are explored through study of urban development and form, and evolving cultural and gender relations in the Cypriot city of Limassol, a coastal city of approximately three hundred thousand that grew substantially towards the end of the twentieth century. The research considers women’s entry into the workforce over the past fifty years as a pivotal moment of transition and seeks to unpack its significance for the relationship between women and the city today. Investigations delved into women’s understanding of the relative efficiency of urban space, women’s awareness of how gender relations are affected by the built environment and women’s willingness to embrace spatial and social alternatives. Thus, women’s experiences become a lens through which to read and understand the urban landscape, as well as an opportunity to consider how the production and consumption of space might further conditions for greater equality and inclusion. Interdisciplinary methods applied involve grounded theory analysis and mappings of qualitative data extracted from interviews, and visualizations of onsite observations. Ultimately, the research uncovers a complex relationship between women and various iterations of privacy within constructed space, and explores its implications in perpetuating women’s uneven urban experiences. Since fostering gender equality is a fundamental aspect of good urbanism, the research aims to contribute to the discourses of spatial democracy and social sustainability, in which the need for socio-political considerations to play more decisive roles in urban development processes is emphasized.

Much has been published in Chicano studies over the past thirty to forty years; lacking in the historiography are the roles that Chicanas have played, specifically concerning politics in Dallas, Texas. How were Chicanas able to advance El Movimiento (the Mexican American civil rights movement)? Anita Martínez was the first woman to serve on the Dallas City Council and the first Mexican American woman to be elected to the city council in any major U.S. city. She served on the council from 1969 to 1973 and remained active on various state and local boards until 1984. Although the political system of Dallas has systematically marginalized Mexican American political voices and eradicated Mexican American barrios, some Mexican Americans fought the status quo and actively sought out the improvement of Mexican barrios and an increase in Mexican American political representation, Anita N. Martínez was one of these advocates. Long before she was elected to office, she began her activism with efforts to improve her children’s access to education and efforts to improve the safety of her community. Martinez was a champion for the Chicano community, especially for the youth. Her work for and with young Chicanos has earned her the moniker, “Defender of Dreams.” She created a chicano recreation center in Dallas, as well as various poverty programs and neighborhood beautification projects. Although she has remained relatively unknown, during her tenure on the Dallas City Council, between the years 1969 and 1973, Anita Martínez made invaluable, lasting contributions to the Chicano community in Dallas.

This book is a monograph about Anna Świrszczyńska’s poetry. It may be described as one woman’s attempt to read another woman’s literary work by taking into account established canons as well as the tools of feminist literary analysis. Part One begins with a discussion of Świrszczyńska’s biography (Chapter One). It then moves on to an overview of critical (mainly male) reactions to Świrszczyńska’s work (Chapter Two), with special regard to Czesław Miłosz’s contribution to its interpretation and popularization (Chapter Three). In Part Two there are three principal discussions: 1) of Anna Świrszczyńska’s early work Wiersze i proza [Poems and Prose] (1936), in which the poet develops her specific female view of European art and culture as disintegrated into incongruent fragments. Her premonition of the apocalypse, which is soon to be fulfilled in the events of World War II, finds its expression in the poet’s desperate attempts to unite the fragments of a shattered culture into individualized versions of myths (Chapter Four); 2) of the collection Budowałam barykadę [Building the Barricade] (1974), in which what is most crucial to the poet (biographically and poetically) is expressed – the encounter with human suffering in an inhuman world. Following this, her poetic view of the mortal body exposed to suffering under an empty sky becomes a well established motif in her work (Chapter Five); 3) of the collection Jestem baba (1972), in which Świrszczyńska introduces into poetry, by making the non-poetical “baba” her lyric heroine, the “outlawed feminine” and, as a result, revolutionizes the language of poetry and poetic representation, which leads in turn to liberating herself from the hegemony of the totalizing male gaze. In this way her anti-world is created (Chapter Six). The “world” is understood here as a male term – one might say that Świrszczyńska creates a “woman’s anti-world” as a place where the woman herself has to regain the right to name things according to her own terms.

Paul Auster’s City of Glass contains a jumble of identities. In fact, the identities are more numerous than the characters, and consequently, characters have several different identities. Some of these identities are obvious constructs, but with others the degree of construction is less evident. Poststructuralist theory, however, puts forward the idea that these seemingly original identities are in fact constructs to the same level as all others. Thus, this essay argues that there are no original identities; identities are constructed by outer factors. This essay discusses three outer factors contributing to the construction of identities, factors commonly discussed in poststructuralist criticism, these three being language, cultural codes and chance.

Nowadays, most aspects of our daily lives have been changed by digital technology. Digital content as a new medium has been used widely as memorial to bring back memories of a person, an event or old times. Since all the data probably will exist longer than our lifetime, how should we deal with them and treat them as a heritage? In this project, I am exploring the possibilities of an innovative service that would engage people to preserve memories in the digital age by sharing their stories with future generations. I aim at result that not only allows people to collect stories, but also brings new perspective on how people view their present lives in the community. Moreover, I hope this design will not be limited to Norsjö municipality, but could also bring an extra value to other small communities with similar needs.

Denna narrativa studie har analyserat de fyra kvinnliga huvudkaraktärerna i Sex and the City för att hitta mönster av hur patriarkala, icke feministiska samt feministiska aspekter äger rum i serien för att hitta traditionella och postfeministiska mönster. För att ta reda på detta har scener från sju olika avsnitt valts ut där relevanta samtal och händelser utspelas för att sedan analyseras utifrån metoden narrativ analys och kvalitativ innehållsanalys. De scener som valdes ut innehåller händelser som speglar kvinnornas syn på dejting, relationer, sex eller kärlek samt scener där kvinnorna vistas tillsammans med män i dejting- eller relationssammanhang. Dessa scener delades in i sex olika tematiseringar för att kunna analysera alla relevanta aspekter för att kunna hitta mönster som ifrågasätter den feministiska stämpeln som serien har haft och fortfarande har än idag, 23 år efter premiäravsnittet. Dessa tematiseringar avhandlar kvinnornas syn på kvinnor i relation till män, kvinnornas behov av män och deras självständighet och porträtteringen av de kvinnliga huvudkaraktärerna och män. Genom att analysera dessa aspekter besvaras studiens två frågeställningar: Hur porträtteras de fyra kvinnliga huvudkaraktärerna i Sex and the City? och Hur speglas patriarkala strukturer i serien Sex and the City?. Studien har använt Laura Mulveys den manliga blicken- och postfeministisk-teori, samt teorier om könsnormer och könsstereotyper. Resultatet visar att serien Sex and the City, som har hyllats för att vara feministiskt banbrytande till stor del har feministiska aspekter då serien har fyra starka, kvinnliga huvudkaraktärer där deras liv och tankar skildras. Trots detta genomsyras serien av patriarkala strukturer och icke feministiska aspekter då kvinnornas huvudfokus är män. Större delen av deras samtal handlar om män och hur de ska anpassa sig själva för att vara åtråvärda för män. Osäkerheter som kvinnorna har grundar sig i en oro för att inte vara attraktiva nog för män och den säkerhet de känner kring sina utseende grundar sig till stor del i manlig bekräftelse. Kvinnorna visar tendenser på att trycka ner andra kvinnor på grund av egen osäkerhet när det kommer till män. Män och kvinnors beteenden i relationer porträtteras på ett könsstereotypiskt sätt där kvinnorna övervägande är mer omhändertagande, känslostyrda och anpassningsbara medan männen är mer känslomässigt stängda och mindre anpassningsbara. Serien handlar om kvinnorna, men fokuset hamnar ändå tillslut på män. Med dessa resultat som grund kan seriens traditionella feministiska samt postfeministiska aspekter ifrågasättas.This narrative study has analysed the four female main characters from the series Sex and the City, to find patterns of patriarchal, non-feminist and feminist structures that take place in the series, by applying the following theories - the male gaze by Mulvey and postfeminism, as well as theories of gender norms and stereotypes. Different scenes from seven episodes, of relevance to this study, have been chosen to perform a narrative analysis, along with qualitative content analysis. The scenes that have been considered, were chosen for containing events that reflect the main characters´ view of dating, relations, sex, and love, as well as scenes where the women are seen with men. The study has selected different themes to narrow the analysis, which are: women’s view on other women in relation to men, women’s need for men, and their independence, and lastly the portrayal of the female main characters and men. By analysing the themes above, it makes it possible to answer and discuss the study´s two issues, how are the four female main characters portrayed in Sex and the City?, and how are patriarchal structures reflected in the series Sex and the City?. The results show that Sex and the City, which has been praised for being feminist pioneering, demonstrates several postfeminist aspects, as the series incorporates four strong-willed women who openly expose their sexuality. Despite this aspect, the series is impregnated by patriarchal discourses and non-feminist views - men are the women´s main focus. Most of their conversations are about men and how they should adapt themselves to be appealing to men. Women's insecurities are based on an unaware concern of not being attractive enough for men, and the confidence they have is built up by mens approval. The main characters show tendencies to judge other women because of their insecurities and desire to be attractive for men. Men and women’s behaviors in relations are portrayed in a gender stereotypical way, where women are predominantly more caring, emotionally driven, and adaptable while men are more emotionally closed, less adaptable and more dominant. Sex and the City is about women, but in the end, the main core of the series is men. Based on these conclusions, the series' postfeminist and feminist aspects can be questioned.

The purpose of this study is to understand the short- and long term implications of the Covid-19 virus on the city center and what is done to revitalize it to a more attractive and available place. This case study is done on Umeå city center, where the municipality is going through a massive transformation and plans to increase its population size from 130 000 to 200 000 by 2050. That is a 50% population increase over a 30-year period, this also entails doubling the amount of constructing on a yearly basis. With the municipality focusing on densification of its cities, with a particular focus on the city center since they want to build a dense and vibrant city where everything is within a 5 km distance radius. The case study is done with a qualitative method using semi structural interviews. The observations made from the interview are compared to previous scientific studies, documents and theories made by urban planners and culture geographers. They include Jane Jacobs, Richard Florida and previous work on the correlation between urbanization and spread of infection as well as studies on people’s preferences on where to live, either being in or outside the city perimeter. To gather empirical information a selection of people in suitable positions were interviewed. The results from the interviews and document shows that the city center has not been affected by the Covid-19 virus on a macro level. There has however been a wide impact on the microgeographic level, where stores and restaurant have been highly affected by the restrictions imposed. People have also seen their daily lives affected which has changed their routines and behavior in consumption and movement. There has been little change in the planning process or vision for the city center expect that there has been a greater emphasis on cooperation between businesses and the municipality.

This thesis is aimed at assessment of drainage conditions at the river Loucna in the cadastral area of Dasice. The examined section is 3,88 km long and runs through out of the city and in the city of Dasice. On the left bank of the river there are several historic buildings that are potentially at risk for 100 years of flow. Capacity assessment is performed using the 1D mathematical program HEC - RAS in which the flow model is created and the calculation of the flow rates for individual N - year flows. On the basis of the results of the program is conducted conceptual desing of flood protection measure. At the same time is conducted conceptual desing of fish ladder on the weir and a sluice closure on the intake for the race.

The aim of this thesis is to investigate the local debate on the Music library in Västervik to see what arguments, pro et contra, that constitutes it. Since its opening the Music library has faced regular threats of being closed down. This is an issue interesting due to several factors, its lack of guaranteed public funding and relative importance to Västervik´s attempts at city branding being two. Using argument analysis, the thesis proposes that the local debate shows traces of both instrumental and culture centered, intrinsical views of the Music library, and that the instrumental view holds both negative and positive poles of opinion while the intrinsical counterpart is one-sidedly positive. Further, the thesis argues that this is in line with a long since documented shift in cultural politics towards a more market oriented discourse.Program: Bibliotekarie

Att färdas med färja är ett populärt sätt att resa i Sverige, både som nöje och som ett färdmedel för att ta sig från en plats till en annan. Vilken anledning passageraren än har för sin resa med färja så behöver de flesta resa genom en stad för att ta sig till färjeterminalen. Syftet med det här arbetet är att undersöka om och på vilka sätt färjelinjerna och deras färjeterminaler gör nytta för städerna de är belägna i. Genom undersökningar med enkäter direkt till passagerarna på olika färjor samt intervjuer, med väl utvalda personer inom de aktuella branscherna, kunde en sammanställning göras om vilken betydelse färjetrafiken har på medelstora städer. Resultatet visade att passagerarnas konsumtion i staden på väg till färjan kunde ses som försumbar, sett till näringslivets omsättning är den konsumtionen relativt liten. Om färjeläget hade försvunnit från någon av de undersökta städerna hade exempelvis den minskade omsättningen hos en butik varit liten. Minskningen i exempelvis den matvarubutik som deltagit i undersökningen hade varit så liten att det inte direkt hade gått att knyta till nedläggningen, om de inte visste om nedläggningen på förhand. Färjelinjerna visade sig dock bidra med nytta till städerna på andra sett till exempel genom sin farledsavgift och stadens igenkänning.To travel by ferry in Sweden is very popular, both for pleasure and as a means of transport. Whatever reason you have for travelling by ferry, you often have to travel through a city to arrive at the ferry terminal. The purpose of this essay is to investigate in what ways the cities benefit by their ferry lines and terminals. By making our own investigation, containing passenger surveys and interviews with carefully chosen persons in these specific areas, it was possible to analyze how and if the cities benefit by their ferries. The result of this investigation shows that the passengers’ consumption, when they travel through the cities, is negligible. Considering the revenue of the trade and industry, this consumption is very small. If the ferry terminal had been closed down in some of the investigated cities the loss of revenue in a grocery store that participated in the survey would have been so small that the company would have had a hard time figuring out that the loss was because of the closure of the terminal. The survey however showed that the ferry lines and their terminals contributed in other ways to the cities, for example through the fairway fee and the cities’ reputation.

This thesis concern how retailers reasons regarding where to locate their store. Previous research stipulates that retailers consider several factors that builds Retail Attractiveness when they decide their store location. The purpose of this thesis is to explore how retailers reason when it comes to where to locate their store. The study is conducted in Kristianstad, Sweden, with retailers located either in the city center, at the out-of-town shopping mall, or both. To fulfill the purpose, semi-structured interviews were held with four retailers that made different decision when C4 Shopping was established. Five interviews were conducted, lasting between 25 and 40 minutes. All interviews were held with store owners and decision-makers. A conceptual model was created from existing literature in order to analyze the results. The original model includes the factors Cluster effects, Accessibility, Atmosphere, and Place Attachment. Under the factors there are sub-factors to nuance the factors. The model ultimately leads to Retail Attractiveness. In the revised model three new factors were added: Rent, Safety, and Proximity to Workplaces. One sub-factor was also removed. It is concluded that retailers consider the factors in the revised model, rate the factors, and thereafter decide where to locate. This thesis adds insights on how retailers reason when they decide where to locate their store, and what factors they consider the as the most important. There is also a discussion on how the conceptual model can be used to measure Retail Attractiveness and explain retailers locational decisions in similar cases elsewhere.

Liver fibrosis is a complex disease that is caused by inappropriate tissue repair due to the deposition of connective tissue. When a chronic lesion affects the liver, regenerative response fails and hepatocytes are replaced with abundant extracellular matrix (ECM). The imbalance between production and degradation of ECM will result in the accumulation of proteins that change normal liver architecture, and thus its functionality. The main source of ECM is the activated hepatic stellate cell (HSC). In order, to clarify possible therapeutic approaches to the disease, the this work aimed to evaluate the possible antifibrotic action of Pluchea sagitallis (Lam.) Cabrera on an activated HSC immortalized lineage (GRX). Our results demonstrated that the P. sagittalis aqueous extract at 0.039 and 0.078 mg/mL concentrations was able to reduce cell growth and proliferation. Regarding to oxidative stress evaluation, there was no statistically significant difference between the treated group and the control. Staining with OilRed-O (ORO) showed a statistically significant increase in intracellular lipid content after 5 days of treatment, exerting in vitro effect on the GRX phenotypic change of activated towards the quiescent state. These results were confirmed by colorimetric quantification of lipid content. Regarding the TGF-?1 and collagen production, there were no statistically significant differences observed between the groups. In conclusion, the P. sagittalis aqueous extract reduces the growth and proliferation of GRX cells and induces the reversal of activated towards a quiescent phenotype. There was no decrease in cell proliferation either by necrosis or by apoptosis via activation of the senescence. Thus, our data suggest that the extract showed an antifibrotic effect, possibly by activating phenotype reversal.

Nossos resultados demonstraram que as concentra??es de 0,039 e 0,078 mg/mL do extrato aquoso de P. sagitallis foram capazes de diminuir o crescimento e a prolifera??o celular. Quanto ? avalia??o do estresse oxidativo, n?o foi observada diferen?a estatisticamente significativa entre o grupo tratado e controle. A colora??o com oil red (ORO) mostrou aumento significativo do conte?do lip?dico intracelular ap?s 5 dias de tratamento, indicando efeito in vitro sobre a mudan?a fenot?pica em linhagem GRX, do estado ativado para o estado quiescente. Esses resultados foram confirmados pela quantifica??o colorim?trica de lip?dios. Em rela??o ? produ??o de TGF-?1 e col?geno total, n?o foram observadas diferen?as estatisticamente significativas entre os grupos. Concluindo, o extrato aquoso da P. sagittalis diminuiu o crescimento e a prolifera??o das c?lulas GRX e induziu a revers?o do fen?tipo ativado para quiescente. A diminui??o na prolifera??o celular n?o ocorreu nem por necrose nem por ativa??o da apoptose e senesc?ncia. Sendo assim, nossos resultados sugerem que o extrato apresenta um efeito antifibr?tico, possivelmente pela via que ativa a revers?o do fen?tipo.

In Kiruna, a city transformation is taking place as a result of the mining company LKAB's iron ore mining. As the mining goes deeper, the city is affected above ground. The central parts of the city and 33% of the population will, according to the prognosis, be directly affected by the forthcoming urban transformation. The aim of the study is to reach an increased understanding of how individuals who are affected in different ways by urban transformation experience and create meaning in a new situation. The study also aims to investigate whether power dimensions have an impact on sensemaking and how it manifests itself. Furthermore, the study aims to investigate whether it is possible to find any common opinions in the creation of meaning despite the different individual backgrounds and experiences. The study’s results are based on qualitative semi-structured interviews with individuals who are in some way affected by urban transformation. The theoretical framework of the study is based primarily on Weick's theory of sensemaking and then supplemented by a perspective of power since there is a lack of this in Weick's theory usually ignores it. The study also takes into account Gidden's concept of trust and ontological security to be used in the analysis of the study's results. The results of the study show that there are a number of factors that affect an individual's sensemaking. Some of the factors that are important for sensemaking are access to information, the possibility of participation and power in relation to the sense of control.I Kiruna sker en stadsomvandling till följd av gruvföretaget LKABs malmbrytning. En malmkropp lutar in under staden och i takt med att brytningen går djupare påverkas staden ovan jord. Stadens centrala delar och 33 procent av befolkningen kommer enligt prognosen direkt påverkas av den kommande stadsomvandlingen. Syftet med studien är att nå en ökad förståelse för hur individer som på olika sätt berörs av stadsomvandlingen upplever och skapar mening i en för dem ny situation. Studien syftar även till att undersöka om maktdimensioner har någon inverkan på meningsskapande och hur det i så fall yttrar sig. Vidare syftar studien till att undersöka om det går att finna några gemensamma uppfattningar i meningsskapandet trots individernas olika upplevelser och erfarenheter. Studiens resultat baseras på kvalitativa semistrukturerade intervjuer med individer som på något sätt påverkas av stadsomvandlingen. Studiens teoretiska ramverk utgår främst från Weicks teori om meningsskapande och kompletteras med ett maktperspektiv då teorin vanligtvis bortser från det. Studien tar också hänsyn till Giddens begrepp tillit och ontologisk trygghet vilka används för att analysera studiens resultat. Resultatet av studien visar att det finns ett antal omständigheter som påverkar en individs meningsskapande. Några av omständigheterna som har betydelse för meningsskapandet är tillgången till information, möjligheten till delaktighet samt makt i relation till känslan av kontroll.

Previous issue date: 2013-12-18Fibrosis is a chronic liver disease that is a major cause of human mortality and is characterized by the accumulation of extracellular matrix in response to chronic liver injury. Important causes of chronic liver injury are: viral hepatitis, metabolic diseases, autoimmune diseases and exposure to chemicals, such as alcohol or drugs. The GRX cells are a representative line of hepatic stellate cells (HSC), which is associated with development of fibrosis, in the last stage is the cirrhosis. In healthy liver, these cells exhibit a phenotype or quiescent lipocyte characterized by its hability to store lipid droplets. Gallic acid is involved in several biological processes such as cell growth inhibition and apoptosis also has a variety of pharmacological actions, including antioxidant activity, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antitumor. The aim of this study was to investigate the in vitro effects of gallic acid on the phenotype of HSC. The results showed that gallic acid is able to reduce cell proliferation, induce quiescent phenotype in HSCs by increasing lipid droplets, probably by activating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gama, decrease of transforming growth factor 1 signaling and decreased expression of collagen type I. These results demonstrate that the gallic acid may be a novel therapeutic agent for treating hepatic fibrosis.

This diploma thesis deals with a design of the reconstruction of a smixed weir on the Oslava river in Oslavany town. The introduction describes the site of interest and the the occurrence of ice events. There are several types of fish ladders described theoretically. Further on in the thesis there is desribed the state of the objects on the flow and the state of the river basin in the area of interest of Oslava river. Next part of the thesis deals with the design of a movable baying structure (a hollow flap) and fish ladder type bypass channel. An impact assessment of the current and newly proposed weir on flow in the HEC-RAS program was carried out. The project also includes the basin adjustment in overweir and an evaluation of the stability of the newly designed construction.

The presented Diploma Thesis deals with the phenomenon of city cipher games. Research was performed by the researcher participation in four city cipher games in Prague, by semi- structured and informal interviews and by cipher games web sites analysis It considers cipher games postmodern enjoyment which is characteristic for emphasizing an experience. The thesis is focused on two task groups: game and city. It examines city cipher games attributes, asks how players take the game and tries to realize the motivation for their participation. It shows that players undergo physical and intellectual exhaustion, discomfort and little hazard. Very strong experience connected with own limits' overcoming is the reason why they join the game again. Other essential reason is the unusual connection between a type of summer camp game and the city world. City is a coulisse with atmosphere for the game. Players experience the city in an unusual way. They learn to know it differently. They are undergoing a type of psychogeographic method. So the game not only takes benefits from the city but also creates players' relationships to the city. Players learn to know the city. It is important to mention that city and game are paramount arenas for freedom exerting.

Identify positive and negative aspects of the Olympic Games through SWOT analysis. The purpose of the study is to explore the correlations between the psychiatric healthy mental status of post-menopause women and her satisfaction of sexual life. The questionnaires compared by the researches, "The Psychological Well-being of the Women in Menopause Scale" and " The sexual life satisfaction of the women in Menopause Scale", were used to survey 500 women in menopause by quota sampling, in Kaohsiung city or Kaohsuing county and have steady sex partners. There were 403 valid questionnaires. The sampling data were analyzed by correlated samples, analysis of variance with factorial design, structural equation modeling, SEM and dummy coding. The results of the study are as follows :(1) the psychological well-being of the women in menopause is the psychological conceptualization of the three factors, that is , well-being memory , happy emotion, and compatibility.(2) happy emotion ranks highest among the factors of psychological well-being of the women in menopause.(3) the sex life satisfaction of the women in menopause is the psychological conceptualization of the six factors : sexual relationship, sexual interaction, sexual attitude, sexual exiting, sexual desire, and sexual organism. (4) sexual attitude ranks highest among the factors of the sex life satisfaction of the women in menopause.(5) their different background : living situation, osteoporosis, depression, endometriosis, uterine myoma, urinary incontinence, vaginitis, work situation, couple intimacy, and sex communication between the couple, have significant differences from their psychological well-being.(6) the different backgrounds : diabetes, osteoporosis, depression, work place, couple intimacy, and sex communication between the couple, have significant differences from their sex life satisfaction.(7) three is a significant correlation between the healthy psychiatry and satisfaction of sex life of ii the women in menopause.(8) the background variables of the women in menopause have influences on their sex life satisfaction. The population is aging quite fast in Taiwan. Baby boom generation is considered as the most valuable population who are retired gradually and having their retired life. Life style after retirement is shifted into leisure and interest oriented. In the study, the life style of senior citizens, except those people who pay attention to their families and are conservative, they recently have become pleasure and LOHAS oriented style. Hence, this study tried to analyze the urban senior citizens’ life style from psychological aspects and their activity environment needs form physiological aspects as well as to understand their needs in residential environment. In this study, questionnaire survey was applied to collect data for analyses. Due to different generations, their life style and needs could be different, too. Therefore, this study investigated the senior citizens who are above 50 years old and retired in Tainan City. The number of the effective samples was 383. The results of lifestyle were classified into four groups, including Regularization Group, Learning Group, Enthusiastic Helping Group and Content Group after factor analysis and cluster analysis were used. The study results have shown that there were partial significant differences in the needs of residential environment for different life styles. For the residential environment, Content Group attaches the most importance to “housing”, and Enthusiastic Helping Group attaches importance to “community activity”. As to the housing environment, it didn’t have any significant differences from the life styles. Regularization Group attaches the most importance to “chatting room” in the community environment. In the regional environment, Learning Group attaches more importance to “grocery store”, and Regularization Group attaches more importance to “regional (big scale) park”. From the age aspect, the study results have shown that life styles of the baby boom generation were more in the “Learning Group”, and the “Regularization Group” were distributed over all age levels. Those who were above 65 years old were more in the “Content Group”. For the residential environment, the baby boom generation attaches more importance to “convenient shopping”, “living room”, “kitchen”, “storage space”, “swimming pool”, “the parking area” and “traditional market”, which were very extensively various in the attributes. Those who were above 65 years old attach more importance to “chatting room” only. Finally, the study results would suggest the government properly uses the environmental resources in planning “reading room”, “gymnasium” for the needs of urban senior citizens. This study also would like to suggest the building investors take good advantages of location selection to have convenient shopping, near hospital and convenient parking for the first priority. Moreover, the previously mentioned variables, such as life style and age attributes could serve as reference for market segmentation.

The act of writing and reading fiction is a search for its center, its hidden meaning. In writing, the author constructs every element, rendering trees, buildings, and people with the knowledge that the final landscape is more than the sum of its parts. The reader engages with these details, mundane or extraordinary, in pursuit of the fictionÕs center, its hidden meaning. The tension between the described and the center is what makes reading fiction compelling. The thesis describes a fictional underground city through narrative. Like all fictions, the thesis is based on both the fantastic and the authorÕs own experiences. The reader is not told everything about the city. Much of it remains (both figuratively and literally) in the dark. It is in the gaps, the narrative leaps, that the reader is intended to fill with his or her own experiences and imaginings. In this way, the thesis seeks to evoke both the fantastic and the personal. For each reader a different reaction - for each reader a different center. The underground city is harsh urban condition; intended to provoke. Its dystopian framework is inspired by the works of architects Antonio SantÕElia, Utskin + Broensky, and Superstudio, among others. Through drawings and narrative, these architects challenged the architectural zeitgeist of their time. Their work continues to provide a basis for reflection by providing an alternative reality, a new frame of reference. Through the fantastic, the unbuilt, it is possible to come to a better understanding of our own architectural experiences.Yes

This research takes a look in depth in ancient Wall City with understanding the significance fromt he locals'' point of view, the impacts of modernization, and the fluence of government''s policy. In order to understand the resident''s viewpoint, examination of pratical utilization and abshative acknowledgement of dimensions was carried out by way of survey-ying and interviewing with the locals. Because conflicts occured between different people''s perspectives, this research was done on the gound of multiple of reading Symbology. The dimensional significance of the wall city in research is elaborated from the aspects of the locals, the points of view from this community. The government policy and any related proposals are also reviewed to show their contribution to forming this ideology in the hope that different perspectives from both sides, government and local, can be seen. By collecting the information from interviewees and analyzing any relevant date, this traditional small town has two different aspects in terms of the elaboration of dimensional significance, and they are the practical utilization of space and abstractive acknowledgement of dimensions. On the practical utilization of space, the Wall City has a dimensional significance with the field extensions of dividing this city to inner and outer parts, and the symbolicalness of geography with the following proposals: 1.Some related topics which influence the percption of this town are dependancy of rapid growing transportation system, conficts in cultural values, preservation of this historic site, the utilization of space and the acknowledgement of dimensions. 2.From the aspects of city development and preservation, the perception of modern city has some conflicts and a great impact on preserving this small town. The architectural asymmetry in modern transportation and this wall city conflicts each other. On the other hand, the new life style yet goes side by side with the modern world. These conflicts come between the government, the local resident, and society. In a word, conflicts and impact are always there between different entities.

This research study specifically addressed; how vocational preparedness programs effect the career aspirations of Black youth, within the context of the Middle Tennessee Council Boy Scouts of America’s Exploring program. The goal of this research is to represent Black youth participating in a vocational preparedness program. Interviews, journals, and rich, thick descriptions are utilized in this work.
Using the lens of narrative inquiry and cultural studies, I hoped to further the field of career development through the experiences of some of its key players, African American youth. Within the context of their stories five major themes surfaced around the ideas: (1) Advancement via Individual Determination. (AVID), (2) Career Self-efficacy, (3) Roles of significant others in career development, (4) Perceptions of the Exploring program, and (5) what would you like to see happen in the Exploring program?
Beyond themes expressed by the research participants, the following underlying factors also came to light; (1) giving voice to Black youth which are part of the marginalized minority population and restoring a sense of narrative power and authority to the youths telling the stories, (2) The Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program as a significant influencer, (3) structure and organization of the Learning for Life program, (4) the role of Black women as significant others in the career decisions of participants, and (5) career choice – trade vs. careers.

This dissertation explores how urbanization and immigration affect the worldview and cultural identity of immigrants. Chapter 1 introduces the dissertation and presents the research problem. The chapter also defines key terms, gives the author's background, sets limitations and delimitations, and overviews research methods employed in the writing of this dissertation.
Chapter 2 provides a literature review, synthesis, and analysis of works in the fields of urban anthropology, orality studies, and church planting.
Chapter 3 explores the relationship of immigration and cultural identity. The chapter discusses ways in which urban areas encourage or limit cultural production of residents and how immigrants respond to those pressures as they express their cultural identity. The chapter concludes with an analysis of three models of assimilation likely to be found in urban contexts.
Chapter 4 presents the oral worldview, including the nature of oral cognition, oral community, and methods of oral communication. After describing primary oral cultures, the chapter discusses the introduction of literacy to an oral people and the effects of residual orality.
Chapter 5 draws together research presented in chapters 2 through 4 and discusses a grounded approach for identifying and reaching ethnic groups in the city. The first section presents methods to conduct ethnographic research so church planters can understand the specific dynamics in their communities. The second section discusses issues germane to reaching ethnic groups in the city including mono or multi-ethnic church, orality issues, critical contextualization, strategies for ministering in the three assimilation models presented in chapter 3, and the need for church partnerships.
Chapter 6 concludes the dissertation by summarizing key points from each chapter. The chapter also describes the application of the dissertation to urban settings outside of North America and discusses the need for further research on related topics beyond the scope of this dissertation.

This research is aimed to look into the relevance between job stress and job performance of Kaohsiung City Government employees, and to observe whether social support will have an effect on this. This research will serve as a reference for people in charge of making policies. Documents will serve as the basis for research, as well as some statistical methods such as conducting the poll through questionnaires, factor analysis, descriptive statistic, T test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, regression analysis and other relevant analyses. There are several discoveries based on these analyses and studies: 1. The job stress of the employees of Kaohsiung City Government comes from the nature of work and structural specialty. 2. The highest level within the various levels of the job performance of Kaohsiung City Government employees is the mission efficiency, which shows the same result as the opinion poll does. 3. Gender serves as an obvious difference when it comes to job stress, which shows that female feels more about that than male. 4. Schooling record also serves as an obvious difference when it comes to job stress. In the part of structural specialty, employees owning master or higher degree usually have a bigger job stress than those owning senior or vocational high school diploma or below. 5. Social support and job stress have statistically negative influence, which means that more social support will reduce the causes of job stress. This view is also concurred by many scholars. 6. Job stress and job performance have statistically negative influence. This is also concurred by many scholars such as Schuler. 7. Social support does not have an influential effect between job stress and job performance, which means that social support does not have the effect of stress buffer as some scholars III such as Fenlason & Beehr claim. 8. The condition of marriage has an influential effect between job stress and job performance. Those who are married tend to have the phenomenon that the more job stress they have, the less job performance they achieve. It is the first time that this report is aimed to study the job stress of Kaohsiung City Government employees, and it affirms that social support, especially the support from the senior officer, will have the effect of decreasing job stress. The result of this research may serve as a policy reference for Kaohsiung City Government to raise the job performance of its employees.

Abstract In recent years, sports have become popular, sports and fitness, sculptural posture, and health and wellness issues have gradually been valued by the Chinese people. The related diets developed in combination with health concepts such as healthy eating, health catering and fitness catering are becoming more and more popular. Therefore, this study wants to further explore the behavior of people in Kaohsiung City for the purchase of fitness and catering for the purchase intention of fitness and catering, in order to provide the pre-investment of the market. This study was conducted by Kaohsiung City. The research questionnaire was sent out via the Internet and a total of 347 valid questionnaires were collected. After obtaining the research data, the research hypothesis was verified by SPSS24 analysis. The research results show that the recommendation and media recommendation in the reference group have a positive impact on the herd behavior; the normative and informative in the herd behavior is significant for the purchase of fitness catering. The impact of the training cost in the exercise cost is also positive for the purchase intention; and the reference group has the conclusion that the fitness catering purchase intention has some mediating effect of the herd behavior. According to the analysis of this article, Kaohsiung City people pay more in fitness time than the Yijing people recommend and information affects the desire to purchase fitness and catering, so the provider can find the target group from this direction, let the expectation of slimming, weight management and fitness people have More exclusive and brand new fitness catering options. This study was aimed to know about the relationship among experiencing aromatherapy, stress and quality of life on the female custmers of Just Herb Co., living in Taipei city in order to know more about if experiencing aromatherapy can affect stress release and the satisfaction of quality of life. A questionnaire survey of convenience sampling applied for this study The research instrument included responsors’ demographic information, women’s properties of using aromatherapy survey scale, women’s stress level survey scale and WHOQOL-BREF survey scale. A total of 450 questionnaires were handed out and responded, but only 429 valid questionnaires were collected, effective response rate is 95.3%. The datas were conducted and analyzed by SPSS version 22. The analysis results found that: (1) 60 percent of women using aromatherapy because they want to relieve their stress; (2) The most of women like citrus and floral aromas ; (3) Lavender make them feel relax ; (4) After they used aromatherapy, they feel relaxed and sleep well；(5)93 percent of them fell using aromatherapy make them relieve their stress and gain happiness；(6)The frequency and purpose of using aromatherapy will affect their feelings and results；(7) The relationship of stress with quality of life is negative. The results will provide some useful reference to the posterity, either businessman or customers.

Cette thèse commence comme une simple question en réponse au modèle du « parfait flâneur » que Baudelaire a élaboré dans Le peintre de la vie moderne (1853): un flâneur peut-il être imparfait? Je suggère trois interprétations possibles du mot « imparfait ». Il permet d’abord de sortir le flâneur du strict contexte du Paris du dix-neuvième siècle et permet des traductions imparfaites de personnages dans d’autres contextes. Ensuite, le flâneur déambule dans la dimension « imparfaite » de l’imagination fictionnelle – une dimension comparable à l’image anamorphique du crâne dans la peinture Les ambassadeurs de Holbein. Enfin, il réfère à l’imparfait conjugué, « l’imparfait flâneur » peut rappeler le personnage antihéroïque de l’humain dont l’existence est banale et inachevée, comme la phrase « il y avait ». Ces trois visions contribuent à la réinterprétation du flâneur dans le contexte de la fin du vingtième siècle. Mon hypothèse est que l’expérience urbaine du flâneur et la flânerie ne sont possibles que si l’on admet être imparfait(e), qu’on accepte ses imperfections et qu’elles ne nous surprennent pas.
Quatre études de romans contemporains et de leurs villes respectives forment les principaux chapitres. Le premier étudie Montréal dans City of forgetting de Robert Majzels. J’examine les façons par lesquelles les personnages itinérants peuvent être considérés comme occupant (ou en échec d’occupation) du Montréal contemporain alors qu’ils sont eux-mêmes délogés. Quant au deuxième chapitre, il se concentre sur le Bombay de Rohinton Mistry dans A fine balance. Mon étude portera ici sur la question de l’hospitalité en relation à l’hébergement et au « dé-hébergement » des étrangers dans la ville. Le troisième chapitre nous amène à Hong-Kong avec la série Feituzhen de XiXi. Dans celle-ci, j’estime que la méthode spéciale de la marelle apparait comme une forme unique de flânerie imparfaite. Le quatrième chapitre étudie Istanbul à travers The black book d’Orhan Pamuk. Inspiré par les notions de « commencement » d’Edward Saïd, mon argumentaire est construit à partir de l’interrogation suivante : comment et quand commence une narration? En lieu de conclusion, j’ai imaginé une conversation entre l’auteur de cette thèse et les personnages de flâneurs imparfaits présents dans les différents chapitres.This dissertation begins with a simple question in response to “the perfect flâneur” model that Baudelaire elaborated in his 1853 essay “The Painter of Modern Life”: can a flâneur be imperfect? I suggest three possible inferences behind the word “imperfect.” First, it should liberate the flâneur from the strict context of nineteenth-century Paris, and allows for imperfect translations of the figure into other urban contexts. Second, the flâneur also strolls in the “imperfect” dimension of fictional imagination, a dimension comparable to the anamorphic skull in Holbein’s painting The Ambassadors. Third, in the grammatical meaning of imperfect verb tenses, “imperfect flâneur” can also refer to the anti-heroic figure of the living, whose existence remains incomplete and mundane as in the phrase “it was.” All three implications contribute to the reinterpretation of the flâneur in late twentieth-century contexts. My premise is that to experience the city as a flâneur, or to make flânerie possible in the city, one should concede being imperfect, anticipate imperfections, and come to terms with them. Four in-depth studies of contemporary novels and their respective cities constitute the main chapters. Chapter One reads Robert Majzels’s City of Forgetting and Montreal. I examine the ways in which homeless characters could be said to occupy – or, fail to occupy – contemporary Montreal from their dislodged position. Chapter Two focuses on Rohinton Mistry’s A Fine Balance and Bombay. My reading evolves around the question of hospitality in relation to the accommodation and un-accommodation of strangers in the city. Chapter Three brings us to XiXi’s Feituzhen series and Hong Kong: I address the special method of hopscotching as a unique form of imperfect flânerie in XiXi’s works. In Chapter Four, I study Orhan Pamuk’s The Black Book and Istanbul. Inspired by Edward Said’s notions of beginning, I frame my argument with the enquiry: how and when does a narrative begin? In lieu of Conclusion, I imagined a conversation between the writing subject of this dissertation and the imperfect flâneurs featured in each chapter.
