Abstract:
Abstract This paper aims to show how the forms of multiculturalism values are displayed in Amina's life and how multiculturalism can change the perspective of other characters towards multiculturalism in the novel Amina's Voice (2017), written by a Pakistani-American writer, Hena Khan. This novel tells about a girl named Amina who has a family background from Pakistan and has long lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States. Despite living in a dominant Western culture, the Amina family consistently upholds Pakistani cultural values and uses their native customs daily. The differences between these two cultures often lead to conflicts experienced by Amina and other characters in the story. Despite encountering obstacles, Amina is shown still to practice the values of multiculturalism in her daily life. This study uses the concept of indicators of multiculturalism values proposed by Tilaar (2004) and the concept of acculturation written by Berry (2005). This research shows that there are forms of multiculturalism values found in the three spheres of Amina's life, namely in the family, school, and social environment. The indicators of multicultural values are learning in diversity, mutual trust, mutual understanding, mutual respect, open-mindedness, appreciation and interdependence (mutual dependence), and conflict resolution. In addition, the present writer also found that the practice of multiculturalism that occurred in the text resulted in an acculturation process that succeeded in changing the perspective of Amina's family members towards the value of multiculturalism.

Abstract:
The Health Equity Network of the Americas (HENA) is a multidisciplinary network that promotes knowledge sharing and intersectoral action for equity in health and human rights in the Americas. The objectives of HENA are: 1) to share successful experiences in the development of interventions, considering the social determinants and determination of health, to achieve participatory and community-based health responses; 2) to analyze the health, social, political, environmental and economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic; 3) to identify the effects of pandemic care on populations most at risk because of their age and pre-existing health conditions; 4) examine the situation at borders and population movements in the spread of the pandemic and its effects on migrant populations; 5) propose strategies to ensure access to comprehensive care for pregnant women in order to reduce maternal and neonatal suffering, morbidity, and mortality; and 6) analyze violations of human rights and the right to health of historically marginalized populations, including street dwellers and other communities that depend on public spaces and the street for survival. The analytical and intervention models for health equity at HENA are based on various approaches, including social medicine, social epidemiology, medical anthropology, human ecology, and One Health.

Abstract:

Abstract:
One of the major issues discussed in recent years, is the rapid change in the community. Especially the ending of communism, transition to the new millennium era, technology and modernity quickly entering into our lives changed living standards not only in Albania but also from the big cities to villages all over the world, access to technology issues and other differences gradually began to decline. In particular, the widespread use of the internet has led to the acceleration of this condition. Of course, every new addition is being a benefit to human life, radically altering, positive or negative, depending on your view point. We are newly living our social change that began with the industrial revolution in the West. Nowadays we are living the changing of the west fortunes that happened two hundred years ago. It should not be forgotten the current status of democratic values of the Western Society in the context of some level if we look with envy at all, in the context of moral values is not a situation we want to believe in. The western society lived long before and concluded this process as a way to spend more structured and balanced of our social, moral, cultural, national and to all the generations after us should be valued as we need to find the most appropriate method of transfer. So the theme of this research is the recognition of personal values, points of view known in recent years to the young student. The universe of study consists of 300 students that are studying in the academic year 2013-2014 at Hena e Plote Beder University. The aim of the research is the way how students understand the rapid change that is happening during recent years.

Full text
Abstract:
The Camuno dialect uses an auxiliary fa ‘do’ in an interrogative construction that strongly resembles English do-support. Stages of its grammaticalization remain within the different valley dialects. When optional, fa-support (FS) coexists with verb-subject clitic inversion (SCI), e.g fa-la mangià (does she eat) / màngia-la (eats-she)‘l peh da hena? (the fish for supper?) There are semantic restrictions on the type of supported verb: manner > result > state. Questions are pragmatically marked with speaker answer expectations, and are opinion-seeking. A wh-item (normally ‘insitu’) has specific reference. Impersonal questions are agrammatical with optional FS but not obligatory FS. A biclausal model with a lexically rich fa ‘do’ is suggested for optional FS.

Abstract:
Celem artykułu jest wstępne rozpoznanie możliwości teoretycznych i interpretacyjnych pojęcia emocji w odniesieniu do gatunkowej literatury popularnej o II wojnie światowej. Sięgając do koncepcji wspólnot emocjonalnych Barbary H. Rosenwein, autorka zarysowuje możliwości rozumienia eksplozji lęku i miłości we współczesnych romansach wojennych i powieściach grozy (Łuksza Henela, Joanny Jax, Mirosławy Karety, Stanisława Reńcy). Następnie porównuje je do oszczędnych opisów z prozy opublikowanej w latach 60.

Health inequities across the Americas are avoidable and unjust yet continue to persist. Systemic social determinants of health, which could be addressed at the policy level, are root causes of many inequities and prevent marginalized individuals and at-risk populations from reaching optimal health and well-being. In this article, we describe our approach to promote health equity through the intersectoral partnerships that were forged, and strategies that were shared, during the convening entitled “Summit 2017: Health Equity in the Americas” and the resulting emergence of the Health Equity Network of the Americas (HENA). We illustrate how this international network will raise awareness of policies and programs to inform decision makers about actions they can take to put an end to the unjust, persistent and mostly avoidable health inequities facing the Americas today.Ethn Dis. 2019;29(Suppl 1):153-158; doi:10.18865/ed.29.S1.153.

Abstract. The Earth’s ring current and how it responds to varying interplanetary conditions is described and an account provided of the production of Energetic Neutral Atoms (ENAs) in the geo-corona. Also, the potential to remotely monitor, on a global scale, the temporal and spatial evolution of magnetospheric plasma populations through analysing ENA images recorded during magnetic storms/substorms is indicated. A technical account of the Energetic NeUtral Atom Detector Unit NUADU aboard China’s TC-2 mission (measurement range 45–>158 keV) follows, together with an account of the scientific objectives of NUADU, both in stand-alone mode and in the context of multi-point imaging. Low altitude ENA emissions recorded by NUADU during south polar passages of TC-2 at the time of a moderate magnetic storm in September 2004, as well as bright ring current emissions recorded in November 2004 during a major geomagnetic storm, are presented and discussed in the context of various, accompanying, terrestrial disturbances. Also, ENA observations of the November 2004 ring current imaged simultaneously by TC-2/NUADU and by IMAGE/ HENA (viewing, respectively, from the Northern and Southern Hemispheres), are compared.

Abstract:
Abstract Bladder cancer (BLCA) is the fourth most common cancer diagnosed in American men. In the U.S., men are four times more likely to be diagnosed with bladder cancer than women. Our research group has previously identified alterations in xenobiotic metabolism in BLCA. In this study, using a metabolomics approach, we identified alterations in the arachidonic acid pathway in bladder tumors from male versus female patients. Included within this altered arachidonic acid pathway was downregulation of EPHX2, an enzyme that converts epoxyeicosatrienoic acids (EETs) to dihydroxyeicosatrienoic acids (DiHETs). Consistent with this, levels of EETs were significantly elevated in bladder tumors derived from male versus female patients. Cox proportional hazard regression analysis further revealed that reduced expression of EPHX2 was significantly associated with poor clinical outcome across multiple publicly available datasets only in male BLCA patients but not in females. Mechanistic studies revealed that EPHX2 over-expression in male-derived BLCA cell line reduced cell growth in vitro and tumor growth in vivo. Overall, these studies nominate EPHX2 as a potential tumor suppressor in male patients with BLCA. Abstract:
Abstract The objective of this study was to identify the pig belly characteristics and to develop regression equations predicting its composition. Based on video image and chemical analysis of 216 bellies, the predictive variables were selected according to their relation to chemically determined belly lipid contents. To estimate the belly fat percentage (BF%), the two best equations constructed were: Equation 1: BF% = 49.960 - 0.7174 × SHME2 + 0.5047 × HE2A (R2 = 0.66, RMSE = 3.22); Equation 2: BF% = 43.888 - 0.6014 × SHME2 + 0.4769 × HE2A + 0.0014 × ARTO2 - 0.2697 × HE3A (R2 = 0.70, RMSE = 2.25), where: SHME2 = lean meat percentage area of the belly 2 from total cut area, HE2A = the Belly2 height at point 1, ARTO2 = the Belly2 total cut area, HE3A = the Belly3 height at point 1. Compared to lean meat, the percentage of belly fat (BF%) appears to be a more appropriate criterion for the objective evaluation of belly composition due to the simplicity and accuracy of the final regression equation (higher R2).

Abstract:
HEN1 and HEN2 encode neuron-specific polypeptides that contain the basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) motif, a protein dimerization and DNA-binding domain common to several known transcription factors. We now describe characteristics of the HEN1 gene product that are consistent with its postulated role as a transcription factor that functions during development of the mammalian nervous system. Thus, transcription of the HEN1 gene is activated upon the induction of neural differentiation in PC12 cells by nerve growth factor. HEN1 encodes a 20-kDa polypeptide (pp20HEN1) that is phosphorylated exclusively at serine residues and forms dimeric bHLH complexes either by self-association or by heterologous interaction with the E2A gene products (E12 or E47). The resultant HEN1/HEN1 homodimers and HEN1/E2A heterodimers bind DNA in a sequence-specific manner. Moreover, a binding site selection procedure revealed that HEN1-HEN1 homodimers preferentially recognize E-box motifs represented by an 18-bp consensus sequence (GGGNCG CAGCTGCGNCCC). The E-box half-site recognized by HEN1 polypeptides (GGGNCGCAG) is distinct from those of other known bHLH proteins, suggesting that HEN1 binds, an regulates the transcription of, a unique subset of target genes during neural development.

Abstract:
Context: Aging is associated with the loss of muscle strength and difficulties in functional activities. Research evidence has identified that regular exercises in the elderly have been shown to enhance gait, balance, and muscle strength, leading to a reduction in seniors’ dependency. Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of an exercise training program on muscle strength and activity of daily living among elderly people. Methods: A quasi-experimental research design used in the current study. A purposive sample of 92 male and female elder adults distributed in three geriatric homes collected through a period of one year. This study carried out at three geriatric homes in Minia city (Dar Omar Bn El-Khattab, Dar El- Qedesa Hena, and Dar El- Raee El-Saleh), Egypt. Three tools utilized in collecting the data; Structured Interview Questionnaire; Muscle Strength Scale for upper and lower limbs; Katz and Akpom Scale used to assess activities of daily living. Results: The current study findings revealed that the level of independence of elderly clients at the end of the program became (87.5%) compared to zero at the first observation. There was a highly statistically significant difference in muscle strength in upper limbs between first and tenth observation as (37.5%) have normal muscle strength compared to none at first observation. Also, a highly statistically significant difference in lower limb strength between the first and tenth observation that (58.75%) have normal muscle strength in the lower limb compared to none at first observation. Conclusions: The study findings concluded that the regular performance of exercises for an extended period enhances the performance of the daily living activity and strength body muscles, which improves general health. Recommendations: Active exercise training programs should be recommended by evaluating its effect on the quality of life for the elderly, particularly those at the elderly home.

Abstract:
In this study novel series of hydrogels, based on 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), itaconic acid (IA) and poly(ethylene glycol) dimethacrylates (PEGDMA) (of varying molecular weight and concentration) were prepared by free radical crosslinking copolymerization. Preliminary hemocompatibility characterization of hydrogels obtained by hemolytic activity assay indicated good compatibility with blood. Preliminary biocompatibility characterization of P(HEMA/IA/PEGDMA) hydrogels, done by the cytotoxicity assays using the HeLa cell line revails that the cell viability of all samples was the range of 97?100%, with no significant decrease in cell viability with the change of PEGDMA molecular weight and concentration. Swelling studies were conducted for all P(HEMA/IA/PEGDMA) samples in a physiological pH and temperature range and network parameters were determined. Swelling studies showed pH sensitive behaviour, typical for anionic hydrogels, and temperature dependent swelling. The effects of concentration of PEGDMA component on hydrogel swelling properties depend on the PEGDMA molecular weight. The samples with 550PEGDMA show different swelling capacities when 550PEGDMA content is changed, whereas for P(HEMA/IA/875PEGDMA) samples there was practically no difference in equilibrium degree of swelling, qe ,with varying 875PEGDMA content, which trend is the same as in the case of qe versus pH dependences. It was concluded that P(HEMA/IA/PEGDMA) hydrogels show good potential to be used as biomedical materials.

Abstract:
Tym samym ujawniona została rozbieżność między postulatami historyków i socjologów, którzy w ostatnich latach odnowili namysł nad położeniem chłopów pańszczyźnianych w duchu tak zwanej pedagogiki wstydu, a dzisiejszą praktyką literacką Presence of Szela: Three Examples from the New Prose The article presents three novels in which the person of Jakub Szela and motif of the Galician slaughter appear. These are Fairy Tale about the Snake’s Heart or Another Word about Jakub Szela (2019) by Radek Rak, Deutsch for Intermediates (2019) by Maciej Hen and Galicians (2016) by Stanisław Aleksander Nowak. The starting point for the considerations is the remark of Stanisław Aleksander Nowak who acknowledged the 1846 peasant revolt as a relevant legacy that could support present-day forms of protest against injustice and exploitation. The author of the article examines if the modern prose writers who brought the person of Jakub Szela back to life in their novels truly invoke the aforementioned tradition and if Szela is a rebel icon and an avenger model for them. The result of said examination is negative: the author proves that only pop-cultural or quasi-pop-cultural presence of Szela (in artistic literature) comes into question, which is loosely tied to the broader discussion on “the peasant question” – the so-called plebeian turn in Polish culture, which became most visible in the years of 2015–2016. The author argues that the discussed works of literature do not have the ambitions to deal with the past; the allegedly renounced or unjustly forgotten legacy of peasant resistance and rebellion weren’t claimed. Thereby the difference between the demands of the historians and sociologists who reflected anew on the situation of serfs in spirit of the so-called pedagogy of shame and today’s literary practice was revealed.

Abstract:
The aim of the study was to evaluate egg shell quality characteristics, mineral content in the egg shell, and serum mineral concentration during the egg formation process as influenced by oviposition time and ambient temperature at the beginning and end of the laying cycle in laying hens and broiler breeders. Egg shell quality deteriorated significantly at the higher temperature and was lower in broiler breeders than in laying hens. The Ca (P = 0.047) and P (P = 0.018) contents of the egg shell were significantly higher at the higher temperature. The highest (P = 0.028) shell Ca content (352 g/kg) was in eggs laid in the morning, but the highest P (P = 0.030; 1.43 g/kg) and Mg (P = 0.001; 3.88 g/kg) contents were in eggs laid in the afternoon. Broiler breeder egg shells contained significantly more P (P = 0.004) and Mg (P = 0.001) than did those from laying hens. Serum Ca and P levels remained constant throughout the day whereas serum Mg and Zn levels decreased, the rate of decrease in Zn content being the same in all treatments, but with the amounts being greater in laying hens than broiler breeders. The results demonstrate that shell quality characteristics are more severely affected by different factors implemented in this trial compared to the shell mineral composition and especially compared to the serum mineral content.
