Abstract:
Summary Specimens of the snails Anisus centrifugops were infected with two types of cercariae relating to the genus Diplodiscus, differing from each other by body and organ sizes were found in a pond in the territory of Vladivostok (Primorsky region, Russia). Further study of their morphology and life cycles allowed us to establish that these flukes belong to Diplodiscus japonicus (Yamaguti, 1936) and D. mehrai Pande, 1937. Morphological and molecular data confirmed the validity of D. japonicus which had previously been synonymized with D. amphichrus Tubangui, 1933 and D. mehrai Pande, 1937.

Oviedo, Alvaro. Paris 8, 2012. http://www.theses.fr/2012PA083452.

Full text
Abstract:
This research examines György Kurtág’s and Helmut Lachenmann’s works through the analyse of a concept of musical gesture including three complementary dimensions. The first one is the instrumental and (vocal) action which is a fundemental aspect of the music of both composers. The second dimension to explore reveals how the expressifs elements can be crystallized in the musical material. At last, I examine the musical form as a dynamic process. By the analysis of the concept of musical gesture I can investigate the energetic character of Kurtág’s and Lachenmann’s music. This approach reveals how the composers work on the musician actions for the interpretation. At the same time, it shows the power of the music to absorbe extra-musical dimensions without fixing itself into a mere reproduction of these foreigns elements. Since the abolition of tonal music, composition tried to invent new forces to organize the form, liberating itself from old musical structures and new abstracts and generals constraints of writing. Indeed, György Kurtág and Helmut Lachenmann, whom nothing seems apparently bring togheter, work on this problem without avoiding the contradictions that this question generates. The « tone » of their music, the qualitiy of a voice as it deploies into the musical texture, is a matter of a gesture that guides the temporal development of musical form. The notion of « gesture », as we known it, appears then as a tool that allow a sensitive approach to this dimension of music

Abstract:
Walter Helmut Fritz is one of the major poets in German poetry after 1945. Of particular interest in his works is the notion of poetic function. Three essential aspects stand out : the rediscovery of the sensitive, the quest of essence and the renewal of poetic writing. However, the modernity of his works consists less in the themes (nature, love, daily live, finitude, paradoxical appearances) than in their poetical transposition. Consequently, the renewal of perception appears as the most important aspect. Moreover, W. H. Fritz’ poetic quest is embedded in a wide literary, historical and aesthetic context mainly visible trough his translations and prose poems, and emphazised by the numerous filiations (european, especially french) as well as the fundamental links between this poetry and painting, phenomenology and existentialist philosophy

Abstract:
This thesis is broadly concerned with how individuals within German society, the German Resistance to Hitler and the German military reacted to persecution of Jews in Germany before the start of the Second World War and also to reports of German atrocities within German-controlled areas of Europe during the conflict.
The specific focus of this study is an examination of the personal sentiments contained in the writings of Carl Goerdeler, Ulrich von Hassell and Helmuth von Moltke and the recorded reactions to the various and intensifying stages of Nazi persecution of Jews within German-controlled territory. These particular individuals were chosen, as a significant portion of their writings, in the form of diary entries, letters and memoranda have been published and offer a glimpse of personal sentiments and thoughts unaltered by the censors of the Nazi regime. In addition, this study examines the reactions of two German officers, Johannes Blaskowitz and Rudolf-Christoph von Gersdorff, to German atrocities committed in German-occupied Eastern Europe. Their reactions to and courageous protests against Nazi crimes are also a significant part of the overall context of German reactions to Nazi crimes. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)

Full text
Abstract:
When he became President of the Republic in May 1981, FM wished to distance himself from the concept of the" Franco-German alliance". However he quickly realised that France's interests were closely connected to Germany. Besides, his choice that France should remain in the European Monetary system in March 1983 led him to give priority to Europe during his presidency, which meant building up a strong relationship with Germany. Together with Helmut Kohl he revived the construction of the European community in 1984. From then on, both men kept working closely together at European as well as bilateral level, developing cooperation between the two countries, including in defence matters. German reunification, though a source of tension between Paris and Bonn, did not damage their relationship. Together again, François Mitterrand and Helmut Kohl put the Maastricht Treaty on the track, despite significant disagreements on the Yugoslav question. At the end of his second term the French president, while keeping a lower profile on the European question, mainly endeavoured to bequeath the image of a strong friendship between France and Germany. This thesis aims to show that François Mitterrand's German policy is part of his whole vision of France's interests - namely, keeping peace through reconciliation with Germany and the strengthening of the European construction for which Bonn also holds the key. The Franco-German alliance is thus a tool to serve Europe which is itself seen as the lever of France's power and the assurance of a peaceful future

Abstract:
AbstractThis chapter will focus on the two decades after 1945, the period of the “post-war society” (1945–1967), which in the historical sciences is also characterized as a period of boom (keywords: “Wirtschaftswunder” (“economic miracle”), expansion of the welfare state, expansion of the educational sector, certainty about the future) and which comes to an end in the 1970s. Germany was undergoing a profound process of change: socio-structural changes in an advanced industrial society, structural changes in the family and a retreat into the private sphere, new opportunities in the areas of consumption and leisure due to the “Wirtschaftswunder,” urbanization and changes in communities, “Western Integration” (“Westbindung”), the ban on the KPD (Communist Party of Germany) in 1956, remilitarization, the development of the mass media and mass motorization, and the repression of the Nazi past were central social and sociological issues. At the same time, fascist tendencies were still virulent during the 1950s and 1960s. After 1945, sociology had to be rebuilt. Journals were refounded or newly founded, the German Sociological Association was restored and sociology was re-established as a teaching subject. Different “schools” and regional centers of sociology emerged. The so-called Cologne School centered around René König, the Frankfurt School around Adorno and Horkheimer, and the circle around Helmut Schelsky should be mentioned in particular; but also, Wolfgang Abendroth, Werner Hofmann, and Heinz Maus (Marburg School), Otto Stammer (Berlin), Arnold Bergstraesser (Freiburg i.Br.), and Helmuth Plessner (Göttingen). Despite their theoretical and political differences, up until the 1950s, they all had in common the decisive will for political and social enlightenment regarding the post-war situation. Furthermore, the particular importance that empirical social research and non-university research institutions had for the further development of sociology after 1945 is worth mentioning. At the end of the 1950s, field-specific dynamics gained momentum. The different “schools” and groups tried to secure and expand their position in the sociological field and their divergent research profiles became increasingly visible. The so-called civil war in sociology drove the actors further apart. Additionally, disciplinary struggles and camp-building processes during the first 20 years of West German sociology revolved around the debate on role theory and the dispute over positivism. By the end of the 1950s, an institutional and generational change can be observed. The so-called post-war generation, which included Ralf Dahrendorf, Jürgen Habermas, Niklas Luhmann, Erwin K. Scheuch, Heinrich Popitz, Hans Paul Bahrdt, M. Rainer Lepsius, and Renate Mayntz, assumed central positions in organizations, editorial boards of journals, and universities. While the early “schools” and circles (König, Schelsky, Adorno, and Horkheimer) initially focused on the sociology of the family and empirical research, the following generation concentrated foremost on industrial sociology, but also on topics of social structure and social stratification as well as on social mobility.

Abstract:
In 2003, a study was conducted to analyze brain-related fatalities in American football. From 1945–1999 a total of 497 fatalities were brain injury-related. Majority of the injuries, 61%, occurred during the football game, and “75% of these were high school players.” The number of high school students was more than 13 times greater than the number of college and professional players combined [1]. While millions of high school students will never make it to the next lever; collegiate and professional players have brought the attention needed to the make advances in the field of helmet design. Further, a study conducted by Bartsch et al. showed that the 20 th and 21 st century football helmet and the “leatherhead” helmets are very similar in their concussion-resistant and shock-mitigating capabilities [2]. In the past few decades, improvements in the helmet design have not addressed shock wave mitigation but rather focused on the strength, durability, and “looks” of the helmet. A major issue stems from the lack of thorough knowledge of the biomechanics and physics of traumatic brain injury (TBI) due to helmet-to-helmet contacts. The current study proposes to an in-depth finite element analysis (FEA) of the helmet-to-helmet collision. The finite element (FE) model consists of a human head clad with helmet with simulations being performed using ABAQUS/Explicit [3]. Here, Helmet-to-helmet impacts will be analyzed to develop a new head injury metric that captures the locational and history effects of the impending shock wave due to collision.
