Galchenko, V. "So be Hudprom! 1963 Reform of Kharkiv State Institute of Arts: Myths and Facts About the Role of Rector M. Shaposhnikov in the Preservation and Reorganization of Kharkiv Art Institute." Vìsnik Harkìvsʹkoi deržavnoi akademìi dizajnu ì mistectv 2021, no. 02 (October 2021): 42–54. http://dx.doi.org/10.33625/visnik2021.02.042.

Abstract:
The article is dedicated to the famous reform of Kharkiv Institute of Arts in 1963. The article provides an overview of the causes and consequences of reform of an ordinary art institute (KSIA) into essentially new Art and Industrial Institute (KAII). The historical and cultural basis of that reform is also examined. For the first time in 60 years of existence of Art and Industrial Institute and its successor, the modern Academy (KSADA), photocopies of documents from KSADA archives are provided reflecting the logic and tools of implementation of that complex and controversial reform. The article features the orders of the rector of KSIA and KAII. Thanks to the analysis of these documents, it is proved that in fact training of art designers in Kharkiv began in October 1962, that is almost a year before the legal registration of KAII. We publish a fragment of Rector M. Shaposhnikov’s report, read at the 21st session of Presidium of Academy of Arts of the USSR (December, 1963), which discussed the initial state of industrial art education in Kharkiv. Particular attention is paid to the problem of qualitative renewal of the KAII teaching staff, which began in 1967, when the first art designers graduated. The central place in the publication is given to the person of Mykhailo Shaposhnikov (1909–1987), rector of Kharkiv Art Institute of that time. Portrait of personality of the then Rector of KSADA is given: as a person, as a head of an institute, as an experienced manager. There are some recollections of eyewitnesses of that reform and of the rector himself. The final part of the article says that the 1963 reform was the bifurcation point from which the development of modern Kharkiv art school began, in which all the “muses of art” and modern directions of creativity are represented. The article ends with a rather rhetorical question: “Could the modern Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts exist if not for creative determination and some managerial adventurism of Rector M. Shaposhnikov?...”.

"Associations of Brain-Derived Neurotropic Factor rs6265 Gene Polymorphism with Personality Dimensions among Athletes." Abstract:
Brain-Derived Neurotropic Factor (BDNF) is one of the essential mediating factors of exercise-induced neuroplasticity, but the underlying molecular mechanisms of exercise-induced neuroplasticity are still largely unknown. Personality dimensions differentiate individuals and depend on genes and environmental factors. The dimensions of openness to experience, emotional stability, extraversion and conscientiousness have been reported to be positively related to performance; considering agreeableness, a negative relation with sports performance was emphasized. However, not enough effort has been put into investigating the relationship between genetic polymorphisms affecting psychological abilities and competitive power sports. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of the rs6265 polymorphism of BDNF with personality dimensions in martial arts athletes. The study was conducted among martial arts athletes. The study group included 258 volunteers (martial arts athletes (n = 106) and controls (n = 152). BDNF polymorphism testing was performed using the real-time PCR method; personality dimensions were assessed using standardized NEO-FFI questionnaires. All analyses were performed using STATISTICA 13. We observed that martial arts athletes’ G/G genotypes compared to the control group G/G genotypes presented significantly higher severity of personality dimension “conscientiousness”. In comparison with the controls, the case group subjects had significantly higher scores in the dimension extraversion (M 6.89 vs. M 6.43, p = 0.0405) and conscientiousness/scale (M 7.23 vs. M 5.89, p < 0.0001). The results of 2 × 3 factorial ANOVA noticed a statistically significant effect of combined factor BDNF rs6265 genotype of martial arts/control (F2,252 = 3.11, p = 0.0465, η2 = 0.024). Additionally, we observed that the results of 2 × 3 factorial ANOVA showed a statistically significant influence of combined factor BDNF rs6265 of genotype martial arts/ control (F2,252 = 6.16, p = 0.0024, η2 = 0.047). The combination of the analysis of personality dimensions with genetics—as in the case of the polymorphism of the BDNF gene related to neuroplasticity—indicates that neurobiology cannot be ignored in educating sports champions. We already know that this is related to genetics. However, little is still known about the influence of personality traits on sports performance. We observed that martial arts athletes’ G/G genotypes, in comparison to the control group’s G/G genotypes, presented significantly higher severity of personality dimension “conscientiousness”. This is worthy of further analysis and probably longitudinal studies on a more numerous group of athletes.

Abstract:
The paper offers to extend the historical time frame of modern cross-media studies formation. The start of this research direction dates not from the 1950-60s, as it is usually considered to be, but from the early 20th century, the ‘synthesis epoch’. Development of neosyncretism was accompanied by creating bright theories in aesthetics and art criticism and promoting the concept of arts’ interaction by the humanities. Three scholars — H. Wolfin, M. Dessoir, and A. Warburg were the pioneers of the modern interdisciplinary research field. The author considers that the range of influences on the cross-media studies in literary criticism should be broadened with the works of philosophers and art critics who started to use the cross-media strategies (not the term itself) when analyzing the works of literature and arts. The leading role belonged to the Iconology school (E. Panofsky, R. Wittkower, E. Gombrich et al.). Their methods were based on applying tools of various disciplines. In the first place, they took into account connections between literature and visual arts. Henceforth, philology interpolated the iconological method into visual and comparative studies. One of the contemporary leading cross-media researchers, W. J. T. Mitchell, named his first book “Iconology: Image, Text, Ideology” (1986). In the middle of the 20th century, philosophy had a considerable influence on the cross-media research formation. In particular, literary critics referred to phenomenology (the works by M. Dufrenne, R. Ingarden. M. Merleau-Ponty) and actualized the analysis of interacting arts once more. A visual turn in culture caused growing attention to the issues of apperceptive cross-sensual experience. The newest works in the fields of perception psychology, gestalt psychology, neurolinguistics, and neurophysiology also support the general cross-media theory. It is possible that, due to the mutual influences of sciences, a uniform platform for studying syncretic phenomena will be created.

Abstract:
In addition to being wickedly smart, David Green had many characteristics that contributed to his great success as a scientist, scholar, mentor, and friend. ERH and family interacted with the Greens over many decades, during sabbatical years, and in travel to exotic places. DM worked with Dave on two major projects—the acoustical reenactment of the JFK assassination, and an NRC committee studying the effects of intense sounds on marine mammals. Recollections will be shared, some true. Dave's work was marked by an unflagging determination to fully understand the problem at hand, and he was amazingly quick at comprehending new information and organizing it into his extraordinary memory. While current and future generations of scientists will remember him for the paradigm shift that his work produced in experimental psychology and neuroscience, those of us who knew him personally will remember an honest, generous, kind, and unpretentious fellow who was just as knowledgeable about sports, art, and current events as about science. We also will not forget that he was a truly fun guy who enjoyed nothing better than a good joke about the world's foibles or about his own notorious frugality.

Full text
Abstract:
Purpose: to study the influence of recreational aerobics classes using exercises from various types of martial arts on the level of physical fitness of female students. Material and methods. The following methods were used to achieve the aim of the study: analysis and synthesis of scientific and methodological literature, pedagogical experiment, method of control exercises (testing), pedagogical observation, methods of mathematical statistics. The study involved 1st and 2nd year female students (n=42) attending health aerobics classes. The students were divided into experimental (n=21) and control groups (n=21). Results: the comparison of physical qualities at the beginning of the experiment shows the lack of reliability of differences between them (p>0,05). In the course of the experiment the peculiarities of the methodology of conducting classes in health- improving aerobics were studied. The content of classes for female students was developed with the inclusion of exercises from different types of martial arts. The content included special imitation exercises (hook, jab, uppercut, etc.) and additional equipment from different types of martial arts (boxing, Thai boxing, kickboxing). Classes were held three times a week and lasted 60 minutes. At each lesson, a combination of 64 exercises was learned. The introduction of imitation exercises from different types of martial arts into the health aerobics classes had a positive effect on the results of the repeated testing of female students of the experimental group. At the end of the experiment in exercises of flexion and extension of arms in a lying down support, torso tilt forward from a sitting position and torso raising in a sit for 1 min. the results changed statistically significantly (p<0,001). This can be explained by the fact that martial arts exercises contribute to the development of strength abilities to the greatest extent, and exercises in health aerobics have a significant impact on the development of flexibility. The results in shuttle run 4×9 m, 100 m run and long jump from a place did not undergo significant changes (p>0,05), though there is a small tendency to positive changes. Conclusions. It is established that the use of imitation exercises from different types of martial arts in classes on health-improving aerobics, directed not only on the development of aerobic abilities, but also on mastering and improvement of techniques of movements from boxing, kickboxing and Thai boxing, positively influences the development of physical qualities of female students. It was found that as a result of attending classes, female students had a significant improvement in flexibility and strength of the arms and abdominal press (p<0,001). Indicators of coordination, speed, power and speed abilities also increased, but these changes are not significant (p>0,05). Keywords: health-improving aerobics, martial arts, physical fitness, exercises, complex, imitation, motor abilities.

Abstract:
This study explored the motivational types of English and Arabic language major students at one of the state Islamic universities in Banda Aceh, Indonesia. A questionnaire was given to 30 English and 30 Arabic major students to measure the level and type of students' learning motivation. A five-point Likert scale was used in the questionnaire, and the data were analyzed quantitatively using SPSS software. The results revealed that the English major students had a high integrative motivation in choosing English as their major compared to instrumental motivation (M=3.15˂M=4.19). Similarly, the Arabic major students dominantly had integrative motivation in learning Arabic compared to instrumental motivation (M=3.09˂M=4.29). The results further showed that integrative motivation could bring positive learning outcomes to the students because their goal of learning was to be accepted, and or be part of the language community they were learning. To conclude, English major students were enthused to study English because they wanted to be knowledgeable in English and used it to interact with other speakers of this language. In the same way, Arabic major students were also driven to learn Arabic for the sake of being knowledgeable in Arabic, to use it to interact with other people who use this language and to increase their appreciation towards the Arabic arts and literature. Finally, the findings of this study can increase awareness among students, teachers, researchers, and policymakers who work on enhancing motivation to increase students' interest in learning foreign languages at Indonesian universities.

Abstract:
AbstractAntiquarian and modern excavations at Castor, Cambs., have been taking place since the seventeenth century. The site, which lies under the modern village, has been variously described as a Roman villa, a guild centre and a palace, while Edmund Artis working in the 1820s termed it the ‘Praetorium’. The Roman buildings covered an area of 3.77 ha (9.4 acres) and appear to have had two main phases, the latter of which formed a single unified structure some 130 by 90 m. This article attempts to draw together all of the previous work at the site and provide a comprehensive plan, a set of suggested dates, and options on how the remains could be interpreted.

Abstract:
In November 1987 a bronze highly stylized animal head was shown to me in my capacity as Curator of Newport Museum (figs. 1–3). The head which appeared to be of late Iron Age date is described below. The owner agreed to lend the piece to the Museum for conservation. The investigations included two separate metal analyses, carried out independently by Dr J. P. Northover at the University of Oxford and by R. Jones at the University of Wales, Cardiff. A black bituminous substance from horn cores on the head was analysed by C. Heron also at Cardiff; these analyses are reported below (Appendices 1–3). Additional advice was given by Dr H. N. Savory F.S.A., formerly Keeper of Archaeology at the National Museum of Wales, and by Dr I. M. Stead F.S.A. at the British Museum. Replicas were made for Newport Museum and the British Museum before the head was returned to the owner in August 1988. In July 1989, the head was purchased at auction by the Newport Museum and Art Gallery for £5,800 (Sotheby's: Antiquities,Monday 10 July and Tuesday 11 July 1989, Lot 403).

Abstract:
The article reconstructs the life path of Alexander Timofeevich Neofitov, the first legal representative of A. F. Kumanina. The recreation is based on the memorial, epistolary, biographic and historic resources introduced into scientific discourse. They include the testimonies from the unpublished memoirs of A. M. Dostoevsky, an unreleased letter by A. G. Dostoevskaya to N. N. Strakhov dated October 18, 1881, which characterizes the Kumanin case as “wretched and bewitched” (Russian State Archive of Literature and Arts. Fund 1159. List 6. File 6. Page 1), materials of the well-known Moscow trial of false-coiners, and other criminal cases (“The Jack of Hearts Club. Criminal trial.” 1877). It also comprises the details from the history of Moscow Academy of Commercial Studies, which Aleksei Alekseevich Kunanin had founded and where he served as a trustee. As a professor of World History at the Academy, A. T. Neofitov became one of the key members of the Jack of Hearts Club criminal network. His involvement in various illegal schemes with the Kumanin inheritance was described in Dostoevsky’s novels <i>Crime and Punishment</i> and <i>The Raw Youth</i>. As a result of the inquiry, we can deduce that due to the fraud conducted by Neofitov, who was the ‘enfant terrible’ among the writer’s relatives, the Kumanin inheritance case turned out to be not only “wretched” and “bewitched,” but highly criminalized.

Abstract:
Mihai Ralea was a university professor and prominent representative of the Romanian interwar literary intelligentsia. M. Ralea taught psychology, sociology and aesthetics, and was at the same time the director of a reputed literary magazine (Viaţa românească-Romanian Life). Ralea was also a politician, initially an important member of the National Peasant Party, representing its centre left wing. In his case, one may notice the contradiction between his moral arguments in public and his deeds after he reached positions of power (Minister of Labour under the royal dictatorship, Minister of Arts under the pro-communist Petru Groza government, etc.). Ralea was also called “the moralist without morals”, and the compromises he made – manifested through his adherence to anti-democratic regimes – can be documented by numerous archival documents. Due to strong political connections, Ralea survived in the high ranks of cultural bureaucracy even during cultural Stalinism. He maintained important positions both at the University of Bucharest and with humanities research institutes of the post-1948 Soviet-style Romanian Academy of Sciences. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, he also gained posi-tions of international cultural representation with the Romanian branch of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNES-CO) and the Romanian Institute for the Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries (IRRCS, the Romanian VOKS). His survival (as a professor of psychology after 1948) had a significant price – Ralea’s collaboration with the Stalinist regime. Using open sources and also newly declassified archival documents, the article is an attempt to approach M. Ralea’s case of survival in the high cultural bureaucracy in the East European context.

"Association of androgen receptor gene expression signature and ARV7with clinical outcome in metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer." Abstract:
5090 Background: The androgen receptor (AR) plays a predominant role in prostate cancer (PC) biology and it represents a cornerstone of PC treatment strategies, including androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) and androgen receptor selective inhibitors (ARSI). However, the androgen receptor splice variant 7 ( ARV7) has emerged as a biomarker for resistance to AR target therapies. In this study we aim to investigate a signature of AR-regulated genes and the ARV7 in a cohort of metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC) patients (pts). Methods: This is a multicenter retrospective biomarker study performed in mHSPC pts treated with ADT, ADT+Docetaxel (D) and ADT+ARSI (abiraterone/enzalutamide). A customized panel of 184 genes was tested in from FFPE tumor samples by nCounter platform (Nanostring Technologies). AR signature was comprised of 31 AR-related genes. Single-sample GSEA (ssGSEA) was used to calculate a gene-set enrichment score per patient. RNA expression levels were correlated with castration resistance-free survival (CRPC-FS) (primary endpoint) and overall survival (OS) by Kaplan Meier and multivariate Cox modeling. Analyses were performed with R software (v.4.3.2). Results: A total of 326 pts were included: 93 treated with ADT, 125 with ADT+D, and 108 with ADT+ARSI. Baseline PSA was 44 ng/ml (range 0.2–7448), Gleason score was ≥ 8 in 72.7% of pts, 15.3% had visceral metastasis, 64.6% had high volume disease and 77.9% were de novo stage IV disease. Median follow-up was 39.5 months (m) (95%CI 4.4–223.5). Median time to CRPC was 21.7 m (95%CI 19.4–25.9) and median OS 49.1 m (95%CI 43.9–57.1). Among the 326 pts, 108 (33.1%) were classified as high AR signature, while 81 of them (24.8%) were considered high ARV7. High AR signature expression levels were associated with less frequency of visceral metastasis ( p=0.01) and high ARV7expression correlated with higher Gleason scores ( p=0.009). High AR signature expression independently correlated with longer CRPC-FS (33 vs 19.3 m; HR 0.7, p=0.011). Considering AR signature individual genes as continuous variables in the multivariate analysis, the high expression of four genes was independently associated with longer CPRC-FS: KLK3 (HR 0.9, p=0.024), KLK2 (HR 0.9, p=0.027), CD200 (HR 0.8, p=0.028), and GNMT (HR 0.9, p=0.013). Besides, the high expression of these genes was independently associated with longer OS: KLK3 (HR 0.8, p<0.001), KLK2(HR 0.9, p=0.014), CD200(HR 0.8, p=0.014), ACSL3(HR 0.8, p=0.015), and PTGER4 (HR 0.8, p=0.04). Focusing in the ARV7gene, a high expression of ARV7 was independently associated with shorter OS (43.2 vs 52.2 m; HR 1.4, p=0.028). Conclusions: High expression of the AR signature correlates with a better prognosis in mHSPC pts, while high expression of ARV7is associated with adverse clinical outcomes. This may be useful as a potential biomarker to personalize treatment strategies.

Abstract:
The NESBA signals and noise experiment was conducted in April–May, 2021. The goal of the experiment was to assess the potential for improving sonar prediction through enhanced environmental awareness. In this talk, an overview of the experiment will be presented along with a description of the environmental conditions. Extensive measurements and modeling were used to help characterize the complex oceanography and seabed. The study region had water depths that varied from 70 m to 2000 m and included a diversity of seabed types and sub-bottom layering. Along the shelf break, there are regions where the seabed sub-bottom layering is particularly intricate. This talk will focus on the NESBA sub-goal of determining the properties of the seabed using passive sensing from two drifting, vertical hydrophone arrays. One array had 16 hydrophones spaced at 1 m and the other had 32 hydrophones with spacing of 0.1875 m. The seabed characterization is based on array processing techniques using the wind generated surface noise. Results will be presented for seabed characterization from several sites in the NESBA region with discussion on the potential impact on acoustic propagation. the Centenary of the Birth of János Arany and the War. The Message of the Memorial Society from Nagyszalonta to the University of Debrecen about the Cancellation of the Ceremony. One hundred years ago and one hundred years after the birth of Arany the memorial society prepared for a nationwide celebration in Nagyszalonta. They sent their official invitation to every literary and scholarly society, with the University of Debrecen among them. Nándor Láng, who was the Rector of the university in the 1916/17. academic year gave the mandate to Károly Pap to attend the ceremony and represent the university. Károly Pap, who was the dean of the faculty of arts, accepted this with pleasure because he was a researcher of the poetry of Arany. But the ceremony was postponed because the train service became unreliable due to the war. The nationwide ceremony had to be cancelled because of the bad traffic conditions and it was never held in Nagyszalonta in 1917. This printed media sources inform us about this and the effect of the Great War on the centenary of the birth of János Arany.

In selected villages in Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, purdah or ghunghat (veiling) observed by all married women of both the Muslim and non-Muslim communities plays a significant role in restraining and prohibiting their participation in social and economic roles. The tradition is perceived to enhance the status of the women as well as of the family among both communities. While women within the home could be relaxed, they had to observe strict veiling when outdoors. Muslim women wear burqa (usually it is black in colour used to cover from head to toe), while non-Muslim women wear dupatta (usually a 2.5 m long cloth) or end of the sari (usually a 6 m long cloth) to cover the face properly while going outside the home.

Abstract:
In forensic speaker comparisons, the current practice is to try to avoid comparisons between speech fragments in different languages. However, globalization requires an exploration of individual speech features that may show phonetic consistency across a speaker's languages. We predicted that the bilabial nasal /m/ may be minimally affected by the language spoken due to the involvement of the rigid nasal cavity in combination with a lack of fixed oral articulatory targets. The results show that indeed, L1 Dutch speakers (N = 53) had similar nasal formants and formant bandwidths when speaking in their L2 English as in their native language, suggesting language-independency of /m/ within speakers. In fact, acoustics seemed to rely more on the phonetic context than on the language spoken. Nevertheless, caution should still be exercised when sampling across languages when the languages' phoneme inventories and phonotactics show substantial differences.

Abstract:
In A.D. 530 the Emperor Justinian gave orders that a commission of lawyers should take the 1,500 libri containing the works of the Classical Roman jurists, and condense them into a single work, the Digesta or Pandectae. His purpose was that the result should be a coherent whole, stripped of repetition and contradiction. Fortunately for us, what they actually produced was something which is quite different, and belongs to a type which is familiar to all modern students of the Ancient World: a sourcebook. For what the commission in fact did was to arrange the work by topics, and under each topic to assemble a series of examples of legal reasoning extracted from the surviving works of Classical jurists. Nearly all of these jurists had worked in the Antonine and Severan age, with a few belonging to the period of the Tetrarchy.

Abstract:
The purpose of the article is to show how the principle of historical continuity could be realized in order to make educational process more integral and purposeful. Research reveals relevance of historical continuity to the valuable forms of human’s spiritual activity. Main ideas which are developed in the article are based on the principles of the cultural policy elaborated by M. Lukšiene. The author of the article established a goal to evaluate art as a means to educate the sense and/or understanding of historical continuity, by the same token elevating perception of artworks to the metacognitive level and enlarging the field of historical and cultural contexts. Material of the investigation is laid by invoking the philosophical analysis of socio- and psychocultural phenomena and their impact on modernization of arts education. The role of the historical continuity and cultural awareness have activated during the last decades after the method of interpretation had intensified in valuable forms of human spiritual activity (moral, politics, aesthetics). So after such qualities of the works of art as depiction and/or craftsmanship had depreciated, the interpretation of the works of art and even the evaluation of interpretations sets in more and more robustly. In the presents of such or other contradictions the reform of European education has rippled by various different waves. As a result, the competence of democratic culture which enables the values, including artistic values, of democratic culture to implant to the attitudes of learners becomes the most essential orientation for teacher education. Development of democratic culture in EU defies such aspects of activity as knowledge and understanding of human rights, democratic participation and especially the development of competence for engaging in a meaningful and open - minded intercultural dialogue. Author is convinced that in order to realize and promote these ideas they should be accompanied by the development of the competence of dialogue with the past. Development of the competences of historical continuity and cultural context is increasing by mastering the ideas of great thinkers on education, including arts education, and helps to impersonate one of the most important domains of cultural heritage – educational potential of culture. In other words, historical continuity and cultural context are such core principles and values which can enable the development of the competence of full-rate intercultural dialogue. In case of arts education, when the paradigm of artistic thinking is rapidly changing, it is evident that an integrated history of artistic education should be developed. The main role of such academic course is not only to reveal cultural peculiarities of different countries but also to show the reasons of unequal educational power of different arts in different epochs. The role of historical continuity and cultural context is growing according to the development of digital technologies which are changing social conditions and possibilities of traditional artistic functions. Just the history of art and ideas of artistic education could balance both historical continuity of social artistic functions and involve learners into dialogue with the past.

Abstract:
Nowadays cancer is the most threatening illness to human wellbeing. Cancer is a complex illness which is highly stressful and can be traumatic. Emotional responses to this experience can range from acute fear, sadness, and anger to enduring adjustment difficulties, anxiety, and depression. The main objective of this paper is to evaluate the prevalence, predictors, and correlates of cancer-related PTSD symptoms and diagnoses. The research approach of the study is an integrated research approach. The study adopted a descriptive research design and applied a convenience sampling method. The study selected 50 respondents who diagnosed cancer recently and collected the data through a pre-tested, unstructured interview schedule. The study found that majority of the respondents (n=16) are affected by breast cancer, chemotherapy and radiotherapy (n=19) are the most common and preferred methods of treatment and the respondents had relative knowledge about PTSD. Highest scoring items were "I am having strong physical reactions when something reminds me of the stressful experience" (M=3.92, SD=0.24) and "Feeling distant from people" (M=3.92, SD=0.24). The lowest scoring item was "I suddenly feel or act as if the stressful experience was happening again" (M=3.42, SD=0.22). The study found that after being diagnosed with skin cancer, most participants had changed their ways, especially around unprotected sun exposure. The study suggested that the new interventions should be designed prevent cancer and provide the care, support and treatment to cancer patients. Abstract:
Three groups of the Funnel Beaker culture in the middle Neolithic have been distinguished in Poland: East, Southeast and Silesian-Moravian (Kowalczyk 1970: Jażdżewski 1984), dated to 5250–4450 b.p. (4095–3245 BC) (Wiślański 1979). The earliest research was carried out on the cemeteries of the East Group, and a variant form, the Kujavian grave type, recognized (FIGURE 1A).Kujavian graves are usually considered to be megalithic (Midgley 1985; Hoika 1990). They have stone-bordered barrows of triangular or trapezoid shape, being on average 50–100 m long and 3.5–15 m wide (Chmielewski 1952; Jażdżewski 1969). The majority of the Kujavian graves had a central grave usually located near the base of the construction. The number of burials varies between one and four, comprising extended inhumation, with the body lying on its back in a shallow pit which was sometimes had oval settings of stones round them (Chmielewski 1952).

Abstract:
Science anxiety refers to students’ negative emotions about learning science. Across two studies, we investigated the psychometric properties of the newly developed Abbreviated Science Anxiety Scale (ASAS), which was adapted from the modified Abbreviated Math Anxiety Scale (m-AMAS) (Carey E., 2017). Using a sample of students in grades 7 to 10 (N = 710), Study 1 reported a two-factor structure of the ASAS (learning science anxiety and science evaluation anxiety) and negative associations between the ASAS factors and science achievement. Study 2 replicated this two-factor model in students in grades 11 and 12 (N = 362) and found that students in the “Arts” track were more anxious about science than those in “Sciences” track. Both studies consistently reported positive inter-correlations between the ASAS factors, with good internal reliabilities and modest meaningful associations with test anxiety and general anxiety, suggesting that science anxiety might be a distinct construct. Further, female students had higher science anxiety (especially science evaluation anxiety) than male students, even when test anxiety and general anxiety were considered in models. In summary, the ASAS is a brief, valid, and reliable instrument that can be used to guide and improve science education.

Abstract:
Prezes Polskiej Akademii Umiejętności Kazimierz Nitsch a Petersburska Akademia Nauk (w świetle zbiorów archiwalnych) Kontakty Kazimierza Nitscha (1874–1958) – krakowskiego lingwisty, profesora Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego, członka i prezesa Polskiej Akademii Umiejętności – z Petersburską Akademią Nauk rozpoczęły się jeszcze przed wyborem polskiego naukowca do jej grona. Świadectwa tych kontaktów można odnaleźć w zbiorach Petersburskiej Filii Archiwum Rosyjskiej Akademii Nauk, Archiwum Nauki PAN i PAU w Krakowie oraz Archiwum Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego w Krakowie. Wyprawy dialektologiczne to jeden z obszarów wcześniejszej współpracy K. Nitscha z Petersburską Akademią. Pozostałe obszary znajdują odzwierciedlenie w korespondencji prowadzonej przez K. Nitscha z Aleksiejem A. Szachmatowem (1864–1920), prezesem Wydziału Języka Rosyjskiego i Literatury oraz Borysem M. Lapunowem (1862–1943), rosyjskim slawistą, członkiem Rosyjskiej Akademii Nauk, który po śmierci A. A. Szachmatowa i E. F. Karskiego (1860–1931), drugiego wybitnego slawisty i organizatora nauki, został kluczową postacią łączącą rosyjski i europejski świat slawistyczny. W Petersburskiej Filii Archiwum Rosyjskiej Akademii Nauk zachowały się listy K. Nitscha do A. A. Szachmatowa z lat 1909–1914 i do B. M. Lapunowa z lat 1930–1936; w Archiwum Nauki PAN i PAU w Krakowie znajdują się listy do K. Nitscha: A. A. Szachmatowa z lat 1908–1912 i B. M. Lapunowa z lat 1928–1938. The President of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences, Kazimierz Nitsch and the Saint-Petersburg Academy of Sciences (according to archival documents) Contacts between Kazimierz Nitsch (1874–1958) – Krakow linguist, professor of Jagiellonian University, member and president of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences – with the Saint-Petersburg Academy of Sciences began even before the Polish scientist was elected to be one of its members. Evidence of these contacts can be found in the collections of the Saint-Petersburg Archives of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the PAN and PAU Archives in Krakow and the Archives of Jagiellonian University in Krakow. K. Nitsch, while still a privatdozent of Jagiellonian University, following recommendations from Jan Rozwadowski and Jan Baudouin de Courtenay, was invited to become an author of the multi-volume Encyclopedia of Slavonic Philology, published by the Russian Academy of Sciences, with the goal of writing a section on Polish dialectology. In connection with this, Nitsch undertook a wide range of dialectological trips to the Polish Kingdom, which were possible thanks to the organisational support of the Department of Russian Language and Literature of the Saint-Petersburg Academy of Sciences. Evidence of this support is stored among the Department’s documents. The dialectological trips were just one of the areas of early cooperation between K. Nitsch and the Saint-Petersburg Academy. The other areas are reflected in the correspondence conducted by K. Nitsch with Aleksey A. Shakhmatov (1864–1920), President of the Department of Russian Language and Literature as well as with Boris M. Lyapunov (1862–1943), a Russian Slavonic expert, member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, who after the death of A. A. Shakhmatov and E. F. Karski (1860–1931), the second great Slavonic expert and organiser of science, became a key figure connecting the Russian and European worlds of Slavonic experts. The St Petersburg Archives of the Russian Academy 114 Larisa Bondar, Marina Ponikarovskaya of Sciences contain letters from K. Nitsch to A. A. Shakhmatov from the years 1909–1914 and to B. M. Lyapunov from 1930–1936; the PAN and PAU Archives in Krakow contain letters to K. Nitsch: from A. A. Shakhmatov during the years 1908–1912 and from B. M. Lyapunov in 1928–1938. The content of this correspondence presents two basic directions of cooperation: participation in the preparation of Polish and Soviet Slavonic publications as well as organisation of the academic exchange of books. The close contacts between K. Nitsch and Soviet linguists as well as his excellent scientific achievements meant that the USSR Academy of Sciences decided to present him as a candidate for membership. The first application was submitted by B. M. Lyapunov in 1933, however, the election took place significantly later – in 1947 when K. Nitsch had already taken up the position of President of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Abstract:
Sound generated by pile installation using a down-the-hole (DTH) hammer is not well documented and differs in character from sound generated using conventional impact or vibratory hammers. This study describes underwater acoustic characteristics from DTH pile drilling during the installation of 0.84-m shafts within 1.22-m steel piles associated with a cruise ship terminal construction in Ward Cove, Alaska. The median single-strike sound exposure levels measured at 10 m were 138 and 142 dB re 1 μPa2s for each of the two piles, with cumulative sound exposure levels of 188 and 193 dB re 1 μPa2 s at 10 m, respectively. The sound levels measured in this study were significantly lower than previous measurements of DTH pile driving, and the sound is determined to be less impulsive in this study as compared previous studies. These differences likely result from fact that the DTH hammer used at Wade Cove did not make direct contact with the pile, as had been the case in previous studies. Further research is needed to investigate DTH piling techniques and associated sound-generating mechanisms and to differentiate the various impulsive structures from anthropogenic underwater noise in general.

Abstract:
In a free field, distance-dependent level (or loudness) and near-field HRTF (head-related transfer functions) are considered to be two primary cues for auditory distance perception. However, some recent experiments using virtual auditory display (VAD) have exhibited inconsistent or even controversial results, especially regarding with the contribution of near-field HRTF cues to distance perception. Possible reasons for the inconsistency may be that static VAD with coarse approximation of near-field HRTFs were used in these experiments, which cause poor perception of externalization and error in HRTF-related cues. To address this problem, a set of psychoacoustic experiment using dynamic VAD with accurate near-field HRTFs is conducted in present work. The perceived distances of virtual source at target distance less than 1.0 m and with or without level normalization are evaluated. The results indicate that HRTF cue alone enable distance perception in the lateral region. In contrast, HRTF cue alone is insufficient for distance perception in the front region. A collaboration of HRTF and level cue enhances distance perception in all directions. Therefore, the present experiment yields results similar to previous experiment using real source and validate the contribution of level and near-field HRTF cues to distance perception.

Abstract:
Statement of the problem. People’s Artist of Ukraine Mykola Petrovych Koval (1946–2018) is a representative of the Kharkiv vocal school, which was established at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Possessing a wonderful dramatic baritone (bass-baritone) of rich timbre, he was a successor to the traditions of Italian bel canto that prevailed in the classes of prominent Kharkiv vocal teachers P. Holubiev, M. Mykhailov, T. Veske. The significance of the multifaceted work of this outstanding artist necessitates a systematic study of his music legacy, which has not yet been sufficiently researched. The only monographic study by Yu. Shchukina (2019) dedicated to the singer presents mostly biographical materials. The purpose of this article is to present a complete creative portrait of the singer and to characterize his performance style. The study of creativity and pedagogical activity of M. Koval using biographical and stylistic approaches allowed to identify the features of his individual style and to classify the latter according to the performance archetype (developed by O. Katrych, 2000), which is an innovative element of the work. Results and conclusions. The creative activity of M. Koval had a significant impact on the development of the The Mykola Lysenko Kharkiv Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, where he had performed the main roles in almost all opera productions since 1974. His vocal practice was a model for the young singers who worked with him at the theater, and his performances as both an opera and concert singer had a wide public response, drawing attention to the activities of the Kharkiv Opera House far beyond the city. His repertoire included works of various vocal genres, in particular, in solo concerts he performed opera arias (from M. Mussorgsky’s “Borys Godunov”, G. Verdi’s “Otello” and “Rigoletto”, G. Puccini’s “Tosca”, O. Borodin’s “Prince Igor”, etc.), romances and songs by Ukrainian composers (P. Maiboroda, I. Shamo), and folk songs. The pedagogical activity of M. Koval, who worked at Kharkiv I. P. Kotlyarevsky National University of Arts, at the Solo Singing Department from 2002 to 2018, deserves further study. Today, his students work at The Mykola Lysenko Kharkiv Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, as well as in other Opera Houses and music schools in Ukraine, continuing the traditions of their Teacher. The analysis of M. Koval’s vocal and pedagogical work allows us to draw the following conclusions: – M. Koval’s individual style is characterized by a high vocal and artistic culture, in particular, a careful attitude to the word, clear expressive diction, a certain emotional restraint and balance (which makes him “the Apollo archetype” of the artist); deep psychologism in the interpretation of musical images, the brilliant embodiment of which is facilitated by his exceptional acting talent. – These features of the individual style also determined the formation of the singer’s pedagogical principles. The teacher often said that one should always sing with the soul, inspiration and frankly, “from the heart,” and that the music itself would help solve technical difficulties. Therefore, perfect vocal technique or voice volume is not an end in itself, but only a component. Technique and vocal can be learned, but the subtle reception of music cannot be learned; it is something that is given to people by nature. – In addition to his unique vocal and acting talent, exceptional diligence and perseverance were important factors that contributed to his successful career. – Thus, it can be confidently stated that an entire era of vocal, in particular opera, art in the Kharkiv region is associated with the name of M. Koval. After the master passed away, most of the performances in which he had sung the main roles were removed from the repertoire due to the lack of an artist of such a talent.

Abstract:
In 1823, Alessandro Manzoni engaged a continuing debate over the merits of ‘Aristotelian’ unities of time and place with his Lettre à M. C*** sur l'unité de temps et de lieu dans la tragédie, a manifesto that synthesises and amplifies earlier polemics by Berchet, Pellico and Visconti. Dramatic expression, coherence and realism, Manzoni argued, are best served by giving priority to unity of action while ignoring the traditional restrictions of time and setting. Although discontinuities might occur between adjacent scenes, the focus on cause and effect and the exclusion of unrelated incidents would provide a coherence that had previously depended on physical and temporal proximity. Manzoni suggested that formal preconceptions be set aside and the action allowed to shape dramatic design. Characters could be introduced throughout a play rather than together in the first act, their motivations and goals allowed to evolve as the situation unfolds. These shifts would encourage writers to cultivate motifs other than love intrigues, which had traditionally held sway because they took little time to develop. In particular, historical plays could enact all important events instead of only the climax, and depict true causes and resolutions rather than ones invented to fit conventional constraints.

The Way Sekampung Dam Project in Pringsewu Regency, Lampung Province is the location of this research. This dam uses an embankment-type dam, whose heap consists of several material zones that make up the body of the dam. With the availability of material from dam heaps in the field and the discourse of design modifications, it is necessary to carry out a large analysis of the seepage discharge against alternative dam designs. Large analysis of this seepage discharge using Geostudio 2012 software used the SEEP/W method of steady-state. Modeling used the input properties of each material that had been tested in the laboratory. The figure of the amount of seepage discharge (Q) was obtained from the phreatic line in the analysis. The output resulting from this analysis was the magnitude of the seepage discharge (Q) in the design dam body, alternative 1 (one) 0.0000001409 m³ / second and alternative 2 (two) 0.00000194 m³ / second which could be concluded that the seepage discharge that occurred in the dam body still met the conditions set. Abstract:
A Review of: Belvadi, M. (2021). Longevity of print book use at a small public university: A 30-year longitudinal study. Insights, 34(1), 26. http://doi.org/10.1629/uksg.562 Abstract Objective – To inform future collecting decisions by ascertaining the circulation longevity of print books within an academic library. Design – Longitudinal data analysis of two circulation datasets. Setting – Library catalogue of a small public university in Canada. Subjects – 10,002 print books acquired between 1991 and 1996 with a first circulation year between 1991 and 2000 (part 1); 4,060 print books acquired and with a first circulation year between 2008 and 2011 (part 2A); 35,860 print books acquired since 1991 with a first circulation year between 2008 and 2011 (parts 2B). Methods – The researcher established two datasets by selecting books with viable circulation data from the institution’s holdings. Using each book’s Library of Congress classification number, the researcher mapped each book to three other categorization schemes. The first scheme, Becher-Biglan topology, categorizes books as belonging to either applied or hard and pure or soft fields of study. The second scheme, called in the paper “major subjects,” uses a traditional broad subject categorization (e.g. arts, sciences, health, etc.), and the third scheme categorizes books by the academic programs at the researcher’s institution. The researcher then analyzed the circulation data through the lens of these three categorization schemes. Main Results – Part 1, which considered the collection’s older circulated books, found that books had an average circulation longevity of 10 years. About 14% of books circulated for only one year, and about 24% of books circulated for less than five years. Among the newer books considered in Part 2, 37% circulated for just one year and 64% had a circulation longevity of four years. Conclusion – Books in applied and hard fields generally have greater longevity compared to pure and soft fields. Books in professional and STEM fields generally have greater longevity than books in the humanities and arts, contrary to conventional library wisdom. Print book circulation longevity appears to be dropping. Subscription and on-demand acquisitions options may prove to be a more efficacious use of resources than ‘just-in-case’ print collecting.

AbstractShallots (Allium cepa L. var aggregatum) are one of the most widely consumed horticultural commodities in Indonesia. Increased demand in quantity and quality for this commodity improved availability varieties. A study was conducted to estimate variability of genotypes and phenotypes as well as the heritability value of growth characters, yield components, and yields of shallot at three highland locations (Lembang 1.250 m asl, West Bandung District; Pacet 971 m asl, Bandung District; and Samarang 970 m asl, Garut District). The research was conducted from September to November 2019. The genetic material studied was 12 genotypes of shallots consisting of 7 clones: B1, B19, B63, B72, B77, B102, and B222, and 5 varieties: Trisula, Bali Karet, Maja Cipanas, Bima Brebes, and Sumenep. Every experiments in all locations was arranged in Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 3 replications. The analysis of variance results showed that the genotype had a very significant effect on all growth characters, yield components, and yields. High variation coefficient values of genotype and phenotype was found in the character of percentage of flowering plants (48.10% and 49.01%), freshweight per bulb (29.71% and 30.87%), and dry weight per bulb (33.17% and 34.29%). All characters tested had a wide phenotific variability. The estimated value of heritability (broad meaning) of the characters in 12 shallot genotypes ranged from 45.08 to 96.30%. All characters tested has high heritability except for the number of leaves per clump the heritability was moderate. The study is the shallot selection in the highlands can be carried out in the early generations.

Abstract:
The cataclysmic eruption of Mount St. Helens on May 18, 1980, resulted in a large, north-facing amphitheater, with a steep headwall rising 700 m above the crater floor. In this deeply shaded niche a glacier, here named the Amphitheater glacier, has formed. Tongues of ice-containing crevasses extend from the main ice mass around both the east and the west sides of the lava dome that occupies the center of the crater floor. Aerial photographs taken in September 1996 reveal a small glacier in the southwest portion of the amphitheater containing several crevasses and a bergschrund-like feature at its head. The extent of the glacier at this time is probably about 0.1 km2. By September 2001, the debris-laden glacier had grown to about 1 km2 in area, with a maximum thickness of about 200 m, and contained an estimated 120,000,000 m3 of ice and rock debris. Approximately one-third of the volume of the glacier is thought to be rock debris derived mainly from rock avalanches from the surrounding amphitheater walls. The newly formed Amphitheater glacier is not only the largest glacier on Mount St. Helens but its aerial extent exceeds that of all other remaining glaciers combined.

Abstract:
The initial aim of the project—the search for the oldest city of Hala Sultan Tekke—continued in 2014. Geophysical methods were used, which led to the discovery of new city quarters, and a broadening of the research objectives, to include revealing the total extent of the city. The GPR survey indicated a huge stone compound of at least 50 m × 40 m to the west of a probable street. Excavations continued in Area 6 West, where in 2013 a domestic and industrial compound was excavated as part of a hitherto unknown city quarter. The 2014 field work exposed stone-built structures and rich find contexts with locally made and imported pottery, numerous tools and several items of gold and silver jewellery. The violent destruction of the most recent layer of occupation, Stratum 1, which had been observed during previous seasons, was once again confirmed. Another georadar and magnetic survey west of the mosque of Hala Sultan Tekke indicated numerous circular anomalies. Five of these were excavated and turned out to be four wells and an offering pit. One of the wells was reused for human burials. Another well contained the skeleton of an equid, a complete bull figurine and a cylinder seal of haematite.

Abstract:
Problem statement. Conductor is considered to be one of the most prestigious occupation in musical field, so there has always been a certain interest to its history. But, despite a large amount of literature, there are no musicologist’s scientific works, with the systematized and generalized materials on training conducting staff in Ukraine in the 1920s – 1940s. This is partly due to a shortage of primary documents at a difficult historical period: most of them were destroyed by the employees of state institutions before being evacuated behind the lines during the Second World War; the other part was burned down during the hostilities; the third one was lost in the territories temporarily occupied by the fascists. The most important information was restored in the postwar years on the basis of personal documents of the musicians and memoirs of the contemporaries. The names of many other talented performers, who were not high ranked in the hierarchy of Ukraine musical culture, were forgotten. Research and publications analysis. Dealing with this article, the author relied on the research of three scientists. For example, the episode devoted to the history of the Kuban State Conservatory is based on the materials of the book by V. A. Frolkin, PhD in musicology, Professor of Piano Department of Krasnodar University of Culture and Arts. (Frolkin, 2006 : 70–89). The Kharkov period of Ya. Rosenstein’s activity is based on the article by E. M. Shchelkanovtseva, PhD in musicology, Department of Orchestral String Instrument of I. P. Kotlyarevsky Kharkov National University of Arts (Shchelkanovtseva, 1992 : 178–179), as well as the memoirs of conductor S. S. Feldman (Feldman, 2006). Ya. Rosenstein activities in T. G. Shevchenko Kiev Academic Opera and Ballet Theater of the Ukrainian SSR was described in research of Yu. A. Stanishevsky – Doctor in musicology, Professor. (Stanishevsky, 1981 : 533–534). The objective of this article is to create Ya. Rosenstein’s complete and non-biased biography, to analyze various aspects of his activity, and, as a result, to revive the name of a talented musician who was at the forefront of Ukraine musical pedagogy. This is the urgency and novelty of this study. Core material. Yakov A. Rosenstein (1887–1946) – a cello player, conductor, professor. In1907–1912 he studied at St. Petersburg Conservatory specializing in cello. Until February 1917, he had served as a cello player in the Royal orchestra of the Imperial Mariinskyi Theater. During the Civil War, he moved to Yekaterinodar (Krasnodar), where in 1918–1919 he was a director of Russian Musical Society Conservatory. October 1, 1920 witnessed the opening of Kuban State Conservatory. The university was funded from the budget of the People’s Commissariat for Education, so the training of all students was free. Ya. Rosenstein taught the cello class. But at the end of 1921, the Kuban Conservatory was deprived of state funding, and in summer of 1922 the university was reorganized into the Kuban Higher Technical School. (Frolkin, 2006 : 74–89). In autumn of 1923, Ya. Rosenstein moved to Kharkov, where he was a cello player in Russian State Opera orchestra. Later Ya. Rosenstein became a theater conductor. Also, he was engaged in pedagogical activity: in 1925 he became a dean of the instrumental faculty of Kharkov State Higher Music and Drama Courses, and in 1926 he became the head of the courses. According to E. M. Shchelkanovtseva, since 1927, Ya. Rosenstein had been teaching at the Music and Drama Institute (currently – I. P. Kotlyarevsky Kharkov National University of Arts) – Professor of cello class, chamber ensemble, orchestra class, conducting; in 1929 he became an Academic Director. (Shchelkanovtseva, 1992 : 179). Opera-symphonic conducting class at Kharkov Music and Drama Institute, which was opened in autumn of 1927, is a merit of Ya. Rosenstein. During 8 years, he had been training such conductors as: P. Ya. Balenko, M. P. Budyansky, I. I. Vymer, F. M. Dolgova, K. L. Doroshenko, D. L. Klebanov, B. T. Kozhevnikov, V. N. Nakhabin, V. S. Tolba and others. In 1926–1927, the Orchestra of Unemployed Musicians in Kharkov was transformed into the First State Symphony Orchestra of All-Ukrainian Radio Committee, which in autumn of 1929 was integrated with the Ukrainian Philharmonic. In 1929–1932 Ya. Rosenstein acted as a chief conductor. Then he was replaced by German Adler, a graduate of German Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Prague, and a world-famous conductor. In 1937, this musical group was the base for creation the State Symphony Orchestra of the Ukrainian SSR in Kiev (nowadays the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine). (Pluzhnikov, 2016 : 358). In 1935–1941 and 1944–1946 Ya. Rosenstein was a conductor of T. G. Shevchenko Kiev Academic Opera and Ballet Theater of the Ukrainian SSR. According to S. S. Feldman, there he brilliantly showed himself in the ballet performances “Swan Lake” and “Sleeping Beauty” by P. Tchaikovsky, “The Fountain of Bakhchisarai” and “The Prisoner of the Caucasus” by B. Asafiev, “Lilaea” by K. Dankevich and “Raymonda” by A. Glazunov (Feldman, 2009 : 102). In summer of 1941 the War began, and the theater troupe was evacuated to Ufa. In 1942–1944 the United Ukrainian State Opera and Ballet Theater was created on the basis of the Kharkov and Kiev theaters in Irkutsk. More than 650,000 people visited 785 performances conducted by N. D. Pokrovsky, Ya. A. Rosenstein and V. S. Tolba in Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk and other cities! In June 1944, the theater troupe returned to Kyiv, and in 1946 Ya. Rosenstein died. He was buried at Baykove cemetery in Kyiv. Conclusion. The creative personality of Ya. A. Rosenstein, a cello player, conductor, teacher, one of the organizers of the First State Symphony Orchestra in Ukraine and the creators of the Kharkov school of orchestra conducting, deserves more attention on behalf of the scientists, musicians and all non-indifferent people. There is hope that Ya. A. Rosenstein’s memory will not be forgotten, and the name of this talented and noble person will take its rightful place in the annals of Ukraine and Russian musical culture.

Abstract:
Background: Preterm births result from preterm labour. The chief causes of new-born neurological morbidity and transience are prematurity and low birth weight. Vaginal infections are considered as a higher risk factor for pre term labour. Preterm labour is less common when proper antenatal examination, screening for lower urogenital tract infections, and early treatment are carried out. Methods: Group B streptococcus (GBS), Urea plasma urealyticum, Mycoplasma genitalium, Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Trichomonas vaginalis, Treponema pallidum, bacterial vaginosis, herpes simplex virus (HSV) I and II, were all examined in vaginal swab samples from A control group of 81 expectant mothers underwent a GBS test. Tests for the antimicrobial propensities of GBS, U. urealyticum and M. hominis were conducted. Results: 8.70% of PTL-WO, 16.33% of S-PTB, 11.70% of M-PTB, and 17.29% of the control group had GBS. 13.04% of PTL-WO, 18.37% of S-PTB, and 17.65% of M-PTB had M. hominis. U. urealyticum was detected by PCR and culture in 52.17 percent of PTL-WO, 48.98 percent of S-PTB, and 55.88 percent of M-PTB. 17.39% of PTL-WO patients, 4.08% of S-PTB patients, and 5.88% of M-PTB patients had C. trachomatis. Monilia was found in 4.3% of PTL-WO, 6.12% of S-PTB, and 5.88% of M-PTB. This examination failed to discover N. gonorrhoeae, M. genitalium, HSV I, T. vaginalis, or T. pallidum; no additional bacteria or viruses were detected either. Conclusions: Lower urogenital tract infections in pregnant women should be tested for, especially in high-risk situations. When genitourinary infections are detected early and treated fast, prematurity-related infant morbidity and mortality are decreased, and preterm labour is less common. Keywords: Preterm labour, Urinary tract infection, vaginal infections

Abstract:
By the middle of the nineteenth century, the characterization of the big city as evil incarnate – a veritable latter-day Sodom – had achieved the status of national myth in both the United States and Britain, and had become a popular theme for journalists, novelists, and playwrights alike. John Frick examines this phenomenon – what came to be known as the ‘wicked city motif’ – as it manifested itself on the antebellum American stage. Originating in the urbanization of the eighteenth-century gothic novel and the French feuilleton roman and coalescing in Eugène Sue's Les Mystères de Paris and G. W. M. Reynolds's The Mysteries of London, the city mysteries narrative successfully negotiated the unstable border between the public and private spheres to examine the depravity and danger of the modern metropolis. Disseminated through populist politics, sensationalized journalism, popular fiction, and – the focus here – dramatic renderings, the apocalyptic vision of the modern city with its inexplicable and impenetrable secrets became commonplace in the 1840s and 1850s. John Frick is Professor of Theatre and American Studies at the University of Virginia and teaches in the M.Litt. program at Mary Baldwin College. His most recent book, Theatre, Culture, and Temperance Reform in Nineteenth-Century America, was published by Cambridge University Press in 2003.

Abstract:
Three killer whale ecotypes are found in the Northeastern Pacific: residents, transients, and offshores. These ecotypes can be discriminated in passive acoustic data based on distinct pulsed call repertoires. Killer whale acoustic encounters for which ecotypes were assigned based on pulsed call matching were used to characterize the ecotype-specific echolocation clicks. Recordings were made using seafloor-mounted sensors at shallow (∼120 m) and deep (∼1400 m) monitoring locations off the coast of Washington state. All ecotypes' echolocation clicks were characterized by energy peaks between 12 and 19 kHz, however, resident clicks featured sub peaks at 13.7 and 18.8 kHz, while offshore clicks had a single peak at 14.3 kHz. Transient clicks were rare and were characterized by lower peak frequencies (12.8 kHz). Modal inter-click intervals (ICIs) were consistent but indistinguishable for resident and offshore killer whale encounters at the shallow site (0.21–0.22 s). Offshore ICIs were longer and more variable at the deep site, and no modal ICI was apparent for the transient ecotype. Resident and offshore killer whale ecotype may be identified and distinguished in large passive acoustic datasets based on properties of their echolocation clicks, however, transient echolocation may be unsuitable in isolation as a cue for monitoring applications.

Abstract:
AbstractKarate martial arts prioritize elements of strength and attack speed, especially on kumite. Empirically, the study aimed to test the correlation between waist flexibility and arm muscle strength against the speed of gyaku tsuki punches. A quantitative correlational study involving 30 Sleman County karateka (Age= M 16.1 ± SD 0.758). The measurement uses sit and reach tests for waist flexibility, push-up tests for arm muscle strength, and kinovea software as gyaku tsuki speed gauges. In this regard, the results showed that both variables (waist flexibility and arm muscle strength) together had a significant correlation with gyaku tsuki speed with a probability of 0.023. However, waist flexibility has a stronger role with a probability of 0.03 compared to arm muscle strength of only 0.037. These findings suggest that the components of flexibility and strength are components that need to be considered by the coach for the preparation of the exercise program in the future.

Land policy must be carried out by an apparatus that has not grasped the tasks and ideas of Soviet construction in the countryside and that is riddled with elements that are alien and even hostile to Soviet power.—N. M. Shvernik, section chief, People’s Commissariat of Workers' and Peasants' Inspectorate, 1924“Anyone who reads the letters that passed between the Intendants and their superiors or subordinates,” wrote Alexis de Tocqueville, “cannot fail to be struck by the family likeness between the government officials of the past and those of modern France.” He added that not only the personnel and institutions but even the internal bureaucratic terminology of the old regime was similar to that of postrevolutionary, republican France. Despite their obsession with the French Revolution, Russia’s revolutionary rulers had probably not read Tocqueville’s cautionary tale about the persistence of the old-regime state. If they had, they might have learned quite a bit.

Abstract:
During his first mayoral campaign in January 1989, Richard M. Daley insisted that “Everybody talks about bringing manufacturing back. There aren't going to be any more soap factories on Clybourn Avenue[.] … The city is changing. You're not going to bring manufacturing back.” Although this was a controversial statement at the time and Mayor Daley later embraced promanufacturing policies, it reflected an awareness of a fundamental economic shift in Chicago. By the late 1980s, the city had lost over half of its post–World War II manufacturing jobs, and companies were continuing to leave the city for more space, lower taxes, and a less expensive labor force. In fact, only months after Daley's comments, Procter & Gamble announced that it would close its fifty-nine-year-old soap plant at 1232 West North Avenue on the North Branch of the Chicago River, eliminating 275 manufacturing jobs in the process. Deindustrialization was under way, causing anxiety for politicians and pain for factory workers, but a new economy that was focused on real estate, finance, and culture was emerging in Chicago.

Abstract:
The article presents the technical solutions implemented during the design of the roof trusses and the elliptic skylight structure (Figure. 1) for the extension of the "Shopping City Sibiu" commercial centre in Romania. The area of the roof structure was approximately 1600 sqm (29x56 m). In the central region of the roof, a 27 m long and 10 m wide elliptic skylight was placed. The challenges of the project arouse from the relatively large span of the structure, being supported only on 13 non-symmetrically placed perimeter concrete columns. Thus, the structure had to be designed in such a way, that it would support the extra 20 tones coming from the skylight structure, while also bring inside the natural light unobstructed by any main structural elements. The relatively large deformations between the supporting points of the skylight under variable loads (especially snow loads) can also have adverse effects on the glazing surface during operational phase. Due to this, also the serviceability limit state checks had an important role in the engineering calculations. The structural configuration steps with performed analyses on the partial structural models and on the complex 3D model were especially useful for the identification of the sensitive zones, helping to create the surface shape and develop adequate structural details. The paper summarizes the structural engineering challenges during the design and execution process.

Abstract:
This study characterizes the Costa Rican Spanish trill realizations acoustically, identifies the number of variants, and determines if they are acoustically distinguishable. Costa Rican trills typically lack vibration of the tongue tip and are thus categorized as ‘non-canonical’ compared to the normative rolled trill. Only impressionistic descriptions have been provided, posing challenges to comparisons across studies and dialects. Using Audacity, 18 speakers (9 female, M = 37.4) recorded their productions of 72 tokens containing the trill in word-initial/medial position and in stressed/unstressed syllables. The study was conducted remotely through Gorilla Experiment Builder. Duration, percentage of voicing and center of gravity were measured in PRAAT. Classification was based on visual inspection of the spectrograms and waveform, with the audio as a guide. ANOVAs were used to examine the distribution of the variants and their acoustic differences. Ten categories are characterized acoustically, the fricative being the most common variant. Stress made realizations longer but did not reach significance. Word-initially, fricatives and trills had a significantly higher percentage of devoicing, and while approximants and trills tended to be shorter in this position, fricatives had the opposite direction of effect. Fricatives also showed considerable variation in center of gravity ( M = 2159.2 Hz, Range = 5622.3 Hz). This acoustic description of the non-standard variants serves as a parameter for future comparisons with other dialects.

Abstract:
Background. Western Ukraine’s cultural musical life had its own paths of development. The fi rst musical school began working in this region in September 1903. The issue of creating a specialized musical educational institution with native-language teaching was repeatedly highlighted in Lviv newspapers in XIX and early XX centuries. Nevertheless, most musicians were forced to obtain knowledge either on their own or in Polish, German and Czech educational establishments. Composer S. Liudkevich was the most ardent fi ghter for foundation of a Ukrainian conservatory in Lviv. He became one of the fathers of professional musical education not only in Lviv, but in Western Ukraine as a whole. Yet, Lviv’s fi rst educational institution – the Higher Musical Institute – was created other than a standard conservatory of Russian Imperial Musical Society with quite a perfect educational system – it was closer to West European establishments on a parallel basis attended by secondary and higher school students, who studied only musical disciplines in the conservatory. A. Vakhnyanin (who taught theory and history of music) has become the fi rst Director of Lviv Higher Musical Institute with O. Bandrovs’ka and L. Ulukhanova teaching solo singing. In the year of 1912, after the death of M. Lysenko, the Higher Musical Institute was given his name. Lviv’s M. Lysenko Higher Musical Institute gained authority and prominence by constantly improving its educational system. Together with the conservatory of Polish Musical Society and K. Shimanovski conservatory, it became one of those educational establishments, on which basis M. Lysenko Lviv State Conservatory was created upon the reunion of West European lands. As of today, it is among our country’s leading musical universities. Vocals faculty exists since the day of Lviv conservatory’s foundation. In this period, they prepared numerous singers for opera and operetta theaters, philharmonic halls, teachers of secondary and higher schools. Having been founded in 1959, the opera studio functions as a training subdivision of the conservatory, being the source of professional growth for outstanding representatives of national vocal arts and opera conductors. The studio’s fi nancial position has been troubled for many years – there is no own premises and full-time soloists. And yet, teachers’ dedication has always allowed the studio to work so as to serve the basis for practical training of the vocals faculty students. The studio was offi cially opened on November 16, 1959 in M. Zan’kovetska Theater. A year later, on November 16, 1960, the premiere performance of “Zaporozhets za Dunayem” opera by S. Gulak-Artemovsky took place (conductor M. Lobaniv, director V. Shevchenko, assistant conductor – 4th year student S. Turchak). The entire faculty worked on the performance – vocals students enthusiastically participated in ballet scenes, their teachers sang leading parts together with students, teaching the mastery lesson to their mentees onstage. But it was emphasized in 1960 annual report by the Director of Lviv State Conservatory professor M. Kolesa that, with opera studio’s certain achievements, there also was a weak point, and namely the absence of creative and organizational contact between solo singing and opera training departments. In autumn 1963, Lviv opera studio performed in Kyiv at the Republican conference dedicated to education of actor singers, representing fragments from “Taras Bulba” (M. Lysenko) and “La traviata” (G. Verdi) performances. The conference stressed the necessity to alter the course of training – to educate actor singers, performer singers, rather than just “sound professional”. By the Order of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine of January 25, 1966, opera training department was founded in Lviv State Conservatory. The functions of the Head of department were vested in the associate professor of solo singing department V. Kobrzhitsky. In this period, absence of creative contacts between the two departments of the vocals faculty continues to be felt, with their teachers exchanging accusations. They do not show aspiration to do the common cause – to educate actor singers. In the beginning of academic year 1971-72, the department was joined by Ukraine’s Honored Artist conductor O. Gritsak, who already in his fi rst year of work showed himself as a talented manager. It was stated in the department’s annual report that working stability, which is defi nitely a positive factor, is not always typical for the students. The number of performances for students’ practical training is insuffi cient. The repertoire must have at least three performances, so that students could be involved in several parts for a multifaceted disclosure of their creative abilities. The department made the resolution to improve its operation by fundamentally altering its organizational principles and the methodology, for which purpose to replace the department’s management.

Abstract:
AbstractAreas of southeastern Alaska and the Queen Charlotte Islands of the northwestern Pacific coast of North America were considered to be ice free during the late Wisconsinan glaciation and glacial refugia existed. However, a glacier extended from mainland North America to the shelfbreak in Dixon Entrance separating Alaska and the Queen Charlotte Islands. Glacial retreat to the east began sometime after 15,000 to 16,00014C yr B.P. and ice had completely left Dixon Entrance by 13,500 to 13,00014C yr B.P. A rapid sea-level regression occurred soon after deglaciation began, due to isostatic rebound, with relative sea level falling to approximately 150 m below present in central Dixon Entrance, decreasing the size of the inlet by about 30 percent by 12,40014C yr B.P. The late Quaternary glacial and postglacial stratigraphic sequence is more than 100 m thick overlying older Pleistocene sediments and Tertiary bedrock. A late Wisconsinan diamicton is overlain by glaciomarine muds formed between approximately 14,400 and 13,00014C yr B.P. Contemporaneous with the deposition of the glaciomarine muds an extensive outwash deposit formed off the northern coast of the Queen Charlotte Islands to a present depth of 150 m. During the sea-level lowstand and subsequent transgression, a reworked sand unit was deposited over much of the seafloor to depths greater than 450 m. The unit is exposed at the seafloor over much of the region, suggesting that seabed hydrodynamic energy levels were high after 13,00014C yr B.P. and remain so today.

Abstract:
Although knowledge on and prevention of juvenile homicide are crucial for social welfare and have been approached through different methodological instruments, this behavior is still quite difficult to be addressed. In this study, we have analyzed several psychological and social factors that could be theoretically related to juvenile homicidal behavior. Our case-control study included young ( M = 16.8 years) males institutionalized in the Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina, under judicial order for crime. Out of 195 cases, 130 had committed homicide, 15 had repeated homicide, and 50 had attempted homicide. The control group comprised 305 young males who had committed other types of crimes. Self-reported and informant-reported instruments and professional assessment were used: Consideration of Future Consequences (CFC) Scale, Weinberger Adjustment Inventory (WAI), Resistance to Peer Influence (RPI), Psychopathy Checklist–Youth Version (PCL-YV), and Inventory of Callous Unemotional Traits (ICU). Differences between indicators of the psychological and social dimensions were not statistically significant. Only Factor 4 of the PCL-YV showed statistically significant difference. However, the relevance of this result is under discussion.

A Review of: Gewirtz, S. R., Novak, M., & Parsons, J. (2014). Evaluating the intersection between WorldCat Local and student research. Journal of Web Librarianship, 8(2), 113-124. http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/19322909.2014.877312 Abstract Objective – To evaluate the usability of WorldCat Local for undergraduate students conducting research. Design – Usability study. Setting – Two small, liberal arts colleges in central Minnesota. Subjects – 13 undergraduates (7 females and 6 males). Methods – To simulate an authentic research process, researchers created a thesis statement and a list of materials students needed to find using WorldCat Local. The students were video recorded and instructed to use the “think aloud” protocol as they worked through the list of materials to find. Researchers analyzed the recordings and evaluated the efficiency of the students’ searching processes using a rubric with scores from 1 to 5. Main Results – Students were able to find books relevant to their topic, but had difficulty in identifying a book that their college library did not own. Students had more difficulty finding current scholarly journal articles and encyclopedias. Additionally, students had trouble distinguishing different formats in the results list. Conclusion – The WorldCat Local results interface confused students, especially when they tried to determine the types of materials found (e.g., article, book, etc.). The students showed little understanding of relevance sorting and facets, although they did attempt to use them while searching. Despite the difficulties, the colleges will keep WorldCat Local as their discovery tool while exploring alternative options. The researchers suggest the need for future research to confirm their findings and determine what changes to the discovery tool interface would be most beneficial for the users.

Abstract:
This study was conducted to analyze the results of ICT literacy diagnosis for college freshmen and derive implications for college liberal arts software curriculum based on this. Data collection targeted 3,488 new students at M University in Daejeon in 2021, 2022, and 2023, and compared grades based on ICT-related prior learning, analyzed diff erences in grades by major, and analyzed differences in ICT literacy capabilities. As a result of the study, 940 (27.05%) out of 3,488 respondents over the past three years responded that they had experience in ICT-related programs. The average score of the ICT literacy competency diagnosis of students in the college of engineering, college of education, and college of art and design, who had a high proportion of ICT-related learning experience, was high. While the average score of students at the college of music and college of technoscience, who had a low proportion of ICT-related learning experience, was low. In other words, ICT-related prior learning experience showed a high correlation with ICT literacy competency scores. As a result of comparing the percentage of correct answers by area, the percentage of correct answers in the access and ethics areas was higher than that of other areas, but the percentage of correct answers in the management and sharing areas was somewhat lower. These results are believed to be due to the fact that as the computing environment is moving from PC to mobile, data storage, software use, and development environments are changing to focus on cloud computing. In addition, implications derived from the research results include the possibility of using block coding language in basic software education, the need for basic and advanced curriculum reflecting the increase of social interest and demand for the Python language, and resource management methods according to changes in the computer use environment.

Abstract:
Community–academic research partnerships aim to build stakeholder trust in order to improve the reach and translation of health research, but there is limited empirical research regarding effective ways to build trust. This multisite study was launched to identify similarities and differences among stakeholders’ perspectives of antecedents to trust in research partnerships. In 2013-2014, we conducted a mixed-methods concept mapping study with participants from three major stakeholder groups who identified and rated the importance of different antecedents of trust on a 5-point Likert-type scale. Study participants were community members ( n = 66), health care providers ( n = 38), and academic researchers ( n = 44). All stakeholder groups rated “authentic communication” and “reciprocal relationships” the highest in importance. Community members rated “communication/methodology to resolve problems” ( M = 4.23, SD = 0.58) significantly higher than academic researchers ( M = 3.87, SD = 0.67) and health care providers ( M = 3.89, SD = 0.62; p < .01) and had different perspectives regarding the importance of issues related to “sustainability.” The importance of communication and relationships across stakeholders indicates the importance of colearning processes that involve the exchange of knowledge and skills. The differences uncovered suggest specific areas where attention and skill building may be needed to improve trust within partnerships. More research on how partnerships can improve communication specific to problem solving and sustainability is merited.

Abstract:
Abstract J. Piaget described how children first elaborate elementary, then empirical and finally logical deductions. A. R. Luria was one of the first to show that illiterate adults of premodern cultures exhibit no understanding of the syllogisms that presuppose logical deductions. He listed the explanatory factors that Piaget had also listed. An American research group led by M. Cole and S. Scribner repeated the syllogistic studies Luria had conducted. Although the results were replicated in different developmental regions and were consistent with Piaget and Luria's considerations, Cole and Scribner interpreted the results differently. They first confirmed the validity of the explanatory approach of Piaget and Luria. But then, in a second step, they withdrew this confirmation. According to their view, the test subjects did not want to deal with the logical problems because they considered other things to be more important. Finally, Cole and Scribner interpreted the answers in such a way that they might contain the same logical, abstract, and theoretical ability that is found in the answers that express an understanding of syllogisms. The present article reconstructs the argumentations of these three schools and criticizes the latter one.

Abstract:
Purpose: Primary aim of the research study was to develop awareness among the participants about the benefits of exercise and its financial benefits. Methodology: Adults had to perform exercises on Unstable Surfaces (US), Stable Surface (SS) and Machine Based (MB). The protocol of exercises was divided into three categories with 30 participants in each group i.e., Machine Based Surface Resistance Training (M-SRT), Machine Based Unstable Surface Resistance Training (M-URT), and Free Weight Unstable Surfaces Resistance Training (F-URT). Equipment used for tests was imported. Cost of financial expenditure and effects of resistance training exercise protocol on the male adults’ lower limbs muscular power, body fats, and strength were compared. Leg extension strength, leg press, muscle fuel, and body fats were checked on the baseline and after a seven-week resistance training program in the adults and budget, effects took away from the parents. Main Findings: The subjects’ results in maximal resistance training of squad movement were significantly higher in M-SRT and M-URT as compared to F-URT. The average seven-week regular resistance training exercise protocol program in adults with proper supervision will minimize the risk of injury and develop the strength and endurance in the lower limbs of adults up to maximal and that the composition of the body fats was observed lesser. There are training and exercise centres in Dera Ismail Khan city and adults can easily manage to become members of those clubs with nominal registration fees. Fitness and wellbeing are directly associated with the financial benefits of exercise and training. It was observed that the student adults can easily manage the resistance training program for their fitness by curtailing their pocket money. The implication of the Study: The findings of the research study have vital impacts on the daily life routine life of adults. Adults can easily manage to spare some time from leisure and money to keep themselves fit and healthy. The nation needs healthy adults to serve the best and build a nation. The results of analyzed data will help the parents and teachers to motivate their children to participate in the activities of fitness centres and acquaint the adults with financial behaviour change theory. Proper counselling of the experts will be fruitful in light of the recommendations of the study. Novelty: For the first time such a study is going to be conducted in the field of sports and finance. This is primary research in the homeland to highlight the behavioural economics capitalization in sports and training. The financial impacts of training and exercise on the fitness of youth have been studied in length. Future researchers would be benefited from the results of the study and they will be able to include the purchase of basic equipment for exercise and training in the institute budget.
