Abstract:
Purpose. The identification of current, global trends in health tourism and their confrontation with the development potential of selected Polish spa enterprises. Method. The study was of exploratory nature and used the focus group interview method. Seventeen people participated in the discussion, including the management board representatives of spa enterprises and experts from the health tourism sector. Results. The research allowed to determine the development potential value of spa enterprises and its adaptation capacity to both worldwide competition and trends in the global tourist demand. The rivalry between spa enterprises is focused on the domestic market, neglecting the European and global competition. Only few spa resorts identify global trends in health tourism, perceiving them as a risk factor in enterprise management. Research and conclusions limitations. The study was not based on representative samples, as the number of spa enterprises presenting high potential and importance in tourist traffic management is small and covers 27 entities. The study also used secondary sources describing trends in health tourism, collected at different periods and from the perspective of various criteria, which limits generalisation of the research results. Practical implications. The adaptation of spa enterprises to global trends in health tourism requires collective actions undertaken by enterprises, municipalities and also the spa sector. Originality. The potential of spa enterprises is a relatively rarely discussed research problem, whereas trends in tourism, including health tourism, are much more frequently analysed. In turn, research on the adaptation capacity of spa enterprises to global trends remains poorly developed. Type of study. The article is of an overview of empirical nature. Global trends in health tourism are reviewed, and the presented empirical research confronts the development potential of spa enterprises with the possibilities of spa entities in responding to the identified trends.

Abstract:
The area of Southern Serbia is the most undeveloped tourist area and is marginalized in relation to the total tourist traffic of Serbia. With the purpose of health tourism development, special attention in this paper is focused on five spas and four mountain tourist destinations of South Serbia. The interaction of climatic elements is key for outdoor tourist activities, thus the potential of health tourism is presented through the results of the tourism climate comfort index (TCCI). According to TCCI values calculated for one climatological period 1991–2020, the spa tourist destinations of South Serbia are generally favorable during May, June and September. Four studied mountain destinations have favorable TCCI values generally during June, July and August. Spatio-temporal analysis utilizing ESRI ArcMap software showed that the most favorable conditions for health tourism development occur during spring and autumn for spas (May and June) and during summer for mountain destinations (July and August), which coincides with the ideal TCCI values. MatLab software through linear regression showed that in the period of 2010–2020, a negative tendency of tourists’ number in Vranjska banja spa and Niška banja spa is noticed, and a positive tendency for Prolom banja spa and Sijarinska banja spa. The paper also highlights the perspectives of other tourism forms of development in South Serbia.

Abstract:
The aim of this study is to evaluate potential of Cross-border region Bulgaria- Serbia for development of sustainability health (medical SPA and SPA tourism) destinations, using geomedical and social –economical assessment of tourism resources.More than 30 mineral springs (13 were selected) and 180 touristic objects have been studied –13 (were selected) (2018). There are good medico-biological conditions for the development of intensive medical SPA, Wellness and SPA tourism. The combination of free spring’s flow and specific climate conditions is a big advantage for the development of high specialized tourism destination as medical SPA.An algorithm is proposed for modeling a representative tourist destination in the field of health, medical SPA and wellness tourism. It is connected to the development of new tourist services - accessible and varied, aimed to a new target group of high price customer segment, focusing on local resources - scenic views, natural landmarks, specific landscape, local traditions and preserved environment. Destination management is related to its availability and development of alternative routes. The resilience of the health tourism destination is determined by its special social focus - creation and maintenance with a view to overcoming difficulties in the local economy and improving the quality of life of the local population also. For the success of those complex tourist product, it is necessary to manage different nonditional market sources, which implies the dominant role of digital marketing and application of virtual tourism tools to attract satisfied customers.

Abstract:
Apart from very contaminated spatial areas, there are places with attractive and non-polluted environment, that are suitable for tourism and recreation. Such places are spa resorts, characterized by numerous and various natural elements having significant health and recreative functions (thermo-mineral springs, rare gases, favorable climatic conditions, rich vegetation, etc.), which attract attention of ample tourist demand. Serbia is welknown as a 'country of spa resorts', because of a great number of thermo-mineral springs, long tradition and their significance for tourism economy. Official statistical service keeps records of tourist flows only at 30 spa resorts (approximately), having participation at 95% of the total tourist trade in Serbia's spas. The topic of this paper is devoted to estimation of the present state and perspectives of spa tourism in Serbia. Special attention is focused on: analysis of resources for spa tourism, discussion of key factors for tourist valorization of Serbia's spas, investigation of structural features of spa tourism, comparison of Serbia's experiences in domain of spa tourism with contemporary trends in certain spa resorts in other European countries, and, finally, defining the most important tasks for spa tourism improvement.

Abstract:
The paper represents an outline of the most important natural and anthropogenic tourist values on which the development of tourism of Jadar is based. It is pointed out to the most important deposits of thermomineral sources as the preconditions of the origin and development of spa centres. The largest economic effects are realized through development of health tourism in Banja Koviljaca which is the only one among spa centres that acquired the market affirmation as individual tourist motive. Banja Badanja has favorable conditions for development, still insufficiently affirmed and in shadow of far more famous Banja Koviljaca. The priorities of development of spa tourism are defined in the paper, and it is pointed to the significance of selective offer that depends on the conditions of successful organization of health spa, wellness-spa programmes and offered recreational contents.

Abstract:
In recent years, there has been a growing global interest in spa tourism, as well as a significant increase in social awareness of the need to care for health, physical fitness and well-being. Apart from spa tourism, ‘spa & wellness’ tourism is also very popular. Kołobrzeg, in addition to being a town largely geared towards patients, also attracts tourists who take advantage of ‘spa & wellness’ treatments. The purpose of this article is to define the essence and characteristics of spa tourism based on the example of Kołobrzeg. Spa activities are carried out in health care entities operating in the zone of the spa, places where patients are undergoing treatment or rehabilitation. These benefit from the healing natural conditions of the areas in which they operate and their microclimates. The main part of the article presents the history of spa tourism in Kołobrzeg along with an analysis of its spa offer and therapeutic profile. In addition, the empirical part discusses the results of an analysis among patients using the survey method; a large proportion of respondents were over 65, mainly female. During the study, the respondents rated various aspects of their spa stay (on a scale from 1 to 5) at a level above 4.0, which indicates the healthy condition of the spa itself and general satisfaction among patients.

Abstract:
The authors’ line of research is within the existing methodological debate around the concepts of quality of services, destinations, and quality measurements methods. The authors consider that the most appropriate way to measure quality is to develop instruments according to the destination and context in question, defining the quality of the tourist destination for practical purposes based on the satisfaction experienced by the tourist or the SERVPERF model, weighted and used to measure the quality of sun and beach tourist destinations. The authors of this work propose the knowledge of spa tourism, its quality and its level of satisfaction as a research gap and consider it as a starting point to validate a questionnaire that would allow the measurement and comparison of parameters with other segments already studied and that can also serve as a measuring instrument for tourist segments with similar characteristics, not as well known in the international literature as inland, ecological or nature tourism. Good internal reliability results were obtained in all items and in all dimensions. The factor analysis distributed the weights of the variables in the theoretical model, and construct validity was obtained with an association between the global evaluation by dimension and the general significance. The score of the main questionnaire was statistically significant.

Abstract:
Water is the common thread and attraction factor of the tourism facilities called “spas”, which are part of health and beauty services. Spa use is currently experiencing a boom that reflects changes in populations, such as an increase in economic wellbeing and a desire to reunite with nature. This research’s objectives were to understand spa tourism’s structural and operational dimensions and to assess this sector’s current situation by using the Delphi method with a panel of 22 experts. The results show that these experts believe that, in Andalusia, spas energize the area as a tourism destination through their natural resources and conservation of key elements. However, spa development policies are scarce, including a lack of autonomous community laws regarding these facilities.

Tourism businesses include tourist attractions, tourism areas, tourism transportation services, travel services, food and beverage services, accommodation, organizing entertainment and recreational activities, SPA, etc. SPA has become one of the fastest growing tourism businesses today, because SPA is included in health tourism activities. Star hotels contribute to improving the operation of SPA tourism businesses through the provision of this business in business administration services at hotels. The ethics services of female SPA workers in star-rated hotels in the Traditional Village of Seminyak must be applied in the operational work of the hotel. With the existence of good service ethics, tourists who enjoy this service will feel satisfied so that it will not close the possibility of having a positive impact on other business sectors in the hotel. This research uses descriptive method, which is a method used to obtain an overview of the research objectives. Abstract:
With the development of medicine and awareness of the value of medicinal thermal waters, the trend of spa and medical tourism was gaining enormous proportions after the Second World War. New tourist places are being introduced and built, thus becoming centers of cultural events, sports competitions, scientific and professional gatherings. As for Vojvodina, this trend did not have an upward trend. There was no interest from social and economic organizations to invest more in tourism. For this reason, spas survived only by joining health care facilities and obtaining the status of their ward. Visitors were no longer satisfied with the standard offer placed on the market. It was no longer enough to say that water and mud were healing, the spa became the seat of social tourism. The authors of the paper presented a part of their many years of research related to the possibility of rebuilding the Lemeška Spa in cooperation with the state of Hungary, which has been out of operation for many years. More specifically, only part of the study of the feasibility and research of the authors is presented. The aim of the paper is to show the importance of reconstruction of the spa facility, both for Vojvodina itself and for the wider tourist market.

The use of springs is becoming increasingly important in tourism. There are many springs in Western Kazakhstan that can be used to develop various types of tourism. Springs can be used for health, ecological, religious and other types of tourism. Today, health and spa tourism is one of the fastest growing sectors of world tourism. The historical and cultural heritage, and biodiversity associated with the springs also fascinate people, and many of them can become unique tourist destinations with high visual impact. The article gives characteristics of springs, self-flowing artesian wells, underground cave lakes of Western Kazakhstan and indicates their tourist potential for travellers and local. However, despite the high recreational potential of springs, tourism as a whole is not developed enough to provide quality tourism services and attract a large number of tourists to the region. AbstractSubject and purpose of work: The research problem is wellness tourism and its connections with forest economy. The main goal is to determine the mutual connections occurring between wellness tourism and forest economy. Materials and methods: The research was carried out in three stages using various methods: a comparative analysis of 39 spas, standardised inspections of facilities offering health tourism services and the selection of a facility being a model of good practice (case study). Results: The most important forms of the small tourist infrastructure offered to patients in forest areas are hiking and bicycle paths (92%), as well as horse trails and viewing points (about 50%). Cluster initiatives and cooperation with local governments and forest districts, consisting in joint promotion, are important. A diagram was developed, showing the interactions of forest economy and wellness tourism. Conclusions: Providers of spa services and State Forests are natural partners, yet the level of cooperation is low and mainly involves promotional activities. It is advisable to create a nationwide forest and sanatorium spa organisation that would coordinate activities in the field of forest economy to take advantage of tourism and health-promoting assets of forests.

Abstract:
Sustainable tourism, carried out on spa tourism enterprises, is a key issue that requires the combination of the implementation of economic goals of business activity and, at the same time, the limitation of negative influences on the tourist areas, which are valuable from the point of nature. The main objective of this article and, at the same time, the objective of theoretical–cognitive and empirical research, is to find links and mutual relations between the entities carrying out tourist and therapeutic activity in health resorts in a model approach, taking into account sustainable tourism elements. The implementation of the goal will be carried out on the basis of empirical studies, covering business models of 17 of the largest health resorts in Poland. The article describes relations occurring in the health resort environment and defines a model of relations between health resort enterprises and other entities functioning within this sector. The network approach of the studied issue is analyzed from the point of view of relations found in the complementary cooperation of entities, among which one is ready to implement the benefit and others express their need for the said benefit and are willing to be its recipients. The network relation of the second type, where the entities combine their forces to meet a common goal, is presented in the form of exemplification of the health resort enterprise network in the Polish market.

Abstract:
Suchedniów is a city located in the northern part of the Świętokrzyskie voivodeship and has a rich industrial history. Since the turn of the 80's and 90's, the city has not found any effective ways for the local development. The aim of the presented article is to explore the development possibilities of Suchedniów with an indication of tourism and spa. Another goal is to analyze the tourist preferences of Polish residents, which give the picture of tourism and the sense of its development in the city. Another purpose of this article was to investigate the current health resort situation in Poland to find out whether the city's health-related development is justified. The adopted research methodology was based on surveys conducted among Polish citizens. These data provided information about the tourist preferences of Polish people. The received information also showed development trends in tourism in Poland. Another, alternative research method was critical analysis of literature and available information on the Internet. In this case, the internet is a very important source of information, because dynamic changes in this sector cause the information in the literature to be outdated. Conclusions resulting from the article show that there is a possibility of introducing tourist and health development paths in Suchedniów. Research and analysis shows that Suchedniów has the possibilities and conditions to go away from the industrial model and face towards tourism and spa. The present conditions and tourist preferences of Poles are also conducive to this type of transformation.

Abstract:
One of the directions of development of the tourism industry is health tourism. Today, having natural opportunities and high potential, it is possible to state the absence of highly competitive positions in this sector of the national economy of some developing countries. For example, in Ukraine, sanatorium-and-spa institutions are one of the priority areas for the development of domestic and foreign tourism, one of the most stable types of tourism markets. So, the object of the research is the Clinical Sanatorium named after V. I. Pirohov «Kuialnyk» (Odesa region, Ukraine). The subject of the research is ways to improve the Clinical Sanatorium named after V. I. Pirohov «Kuialnyk». The available and potential reserves of medical resources, taking into account their qualitative and quantitative characteristics, can serve as the basis for the creation of such tourism products that are now very popular in the world, for example, the provision of spa services. The authors state the absence of highly competitive positions in this sector. In the current market conditions, the sanatorium business in Ukraine is undergoing structural changes. The branding scheme proposed by the authors of the Clinical Sanatorium named after V. I. Pirohov «Kuialnyk» allows improving the quality of spa services and marketing effectiveness. After all, the modern basis of the activity of tourist organizations is determined by the factor of informatization of society. Since the vast majority of visitors to the resort are from Belarus, Moldova, it is interesting that the resort also has its share of international tourists from European countries (Romania, Bulgaria, Germany, etc.). Thanks to the successful identification of the strengths and needs of consumers, it can be assumed that the international tourist flow will increase, because there are all the necessary conditions for this. The new branding scheme developed by the authors will act as a catalyst and stimulator for the growth of the number of visitors to the Odesa region. The prospect of this study lies in the search for new solutions for the promotion, reorganization of SPA institutions in the market of health tourism services in Ukraine. The synergy of the optimal use of natural health-improving resources and the best management solutions for the use of information support create a competitive tourism product, which in turn will lead to an increase in international tourists.

Tourists and holiday makers have a closer than “normal living” association with the water cycle. Tourists are particularly sensitive to the effects of changing water quality as almost any traveller can attest to. In this paper, we will be looking not at drinking water but at the health effects of water-based recreational pursuits. These pursuits range from taking a spa to eating shellfish in a polluted estuary (Table 1). Attention will be drawn to the very substantial costs to the tourist industry of not paying attention to water quality problems. Water quality problems are often easily dealt with, so their continued existence can reflect badly on the leisure industries.TABLE 1Recreational WatersClosed or Controlled Recreational WatersSwimming pools, spas, slides, float tanks, wavepools and hydrotherapy pools.Open Recreational WatersBeaches, estuaries, lakes and streams.

Abstract:
Purpose. The article shows the importance of health tourism, including spa tourism, as well as current trends in the development of health resorts and sanatorium facilities. Method. The existing data from a survey carried out in health resorts in the years 2011-2013 were used, using standardized evaluation questionnaires. Findings. The data illustrates the level of visitors’ satisfaction with the quality of services and range of offers in selected sanatoriums. The visitors generally assessed the medical and nursing care, the range and quality of treatment services and rehabilitation as good, while in the assessment of local conditions and food as well as the tourist attractiveness of the destination, they reported varied opinions over the analyzed years. Research and conclusion limitations . Limitations of the research and analysis and the comparability of data between the sanatoriums primarily result from a diverse number of respondents in particular locations and differences in the construction of the research tool which was the questionnaire. Furthermore, the opinions of the visitors may be biased and some of them may not have comparison with conditions prevailing in other spa facilities in Poland. Practical implications. The opinions and comments of the respondents can provide additional information for the management of health resorts and local authorities in terms of taking care of the quality of services. Originality. The article presents the most important trends in health tourism, including spa tourism, which was observed in the studied health resorts and sanatoria facilities, as well as the visitors’ feelings about the quality of services and the attractiveness of the range of treatment, rehabilitation and prevention. Type of paper. The article is empirical.

Abstract:
Health tourism is defined as a tourism product of strategic importance in Hungary and spa towns are among the most visited destinations in the country. The aims of the present research are to explore the characteristics of the tourism sector in the spa town of Hajdúszoboszló, and to identify the trends having shaped its tourism in the previous decade. Time-series analysis of secondary tourism data as well as a questionnaire survey among visitors were conducted to assess the market position of the spa town. The results imply that both the well-balanced ratio of domestic and international guests and the diversity of international source markets were favourable for the town. In the future, the more efficient diversification of tourism products, the improvement of the MICE sector, and the development of gastronomic, cultural and sport tourism products are recommended.

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed tourist flows, reducing the number of international tourist arrivals around the world. One of the ways to protect the tourism industry from the ongoing health crisis was through the stimulation of domestic and proximity tourism. During the COVID-19 pandemic in Serbia, domestic tourists were attracted to spa destinations such as Vrnjačka Banja. Thus, residents of this small-town destination experienced a great influx of tourists, altering their everyday lives. This paper examines the quality of life domains of Vrnjačka Banja residents during the pandemic and their support for sustainable tourism initiatives in the viable future. Study findings suggest that spirituality and support from friends and general quality of life as identified domains of quality of life during the pandemic emerged as antecedents of support for sustainable tourism. The study contributes to the existing tourism knowledge by acknowledging the capacity of different domains of residents" quality of life in the pandemic context to frame future sustainable tourism initiatives.

Abstract:
Abstract A sustainable tourist destination and its content are becoming targets of growing tourism of specific interests. Visits to art or sports events are increasingly part of shorter vacations during weekends or holidays. At the same time, on the global tourist market, the interest of tourism consumers in tangible and intangible cultural heritage is growing, as well as the interest in rural tourism in a peaceful rural environment with traditional values. Interest in ancient culture is the focus of interest of modern consumers, as well as cycling, hunting, green - eco tourism, cruise travel, travel for health - Medical Spa, food and drink tourism, and especially wine tourism. Tourism is a changing, dynamic activity that adapts to increasingly demanding and sophisticated tourism consumers who have changed in the last ten years with a different way of life, pace, style and standard, working hours and the fact that they no longer go on vacation once a year. The aim of this work is to point out the importance of protecting the destination area and preserving local identity.

Literature on the trends of health tourism development has proven that it is becoming one of the most important tourism activities. With the growing popularity of this form of tourism, the structure of the needs of tourists and spa patients is simultaneously changing. This article presents the results of self-research carried out in Polish spa resorts based on a sample of 753 patients and spa tourists. The purpose of the research carried out was the development of a value proposition for the client of a spa enterprise as an element of a business model. At the same time, this paper points to the need to base spa activity on the values of sustainable development through key spa resources in the form of a therapeutic climate and natural raw materials applied in spa therapy. The key values for patients and spa tourists are the improvement of health with natural therapeutic resources, recreation in a place with a healing climate, achieving the effect of the treatment, the development of cultural activities, the possibility of taking care of a child during treatment, and the introduction of a psychologist and leisure animator. The mentioned features may become the basis for building a business model of spa enterprises to adapt the value propositions of a client in their business models to the needs demonstrated by the beneficiaries of these values. The problem raised in the article requires a simultaneous consideration of the principles of sustainable development in relation to the natural resources used in spa therapy.

Slovak spa companies significantly contribute to tourism support and to health tourism development. The paper aims to evaluate the financial situation and financial position of 21 Slovak spa companies, and the Slovak spa industry within NACE 86 - Human Health Activities and NACE 869 - Other Human Health Activities. In terms of legal form, the research sample consists of 16 joint-stock companies (Inc. (a.s.)), 3 limited liability companies (Ltd. (s.r.o.)), and 2 state-owned companies (s.o.). Data of given spa companies are obtained from their Financial Statements in Register of Financial Statements of the Ministry of Finance of the Slovak Republic. Data on mean values of the financial indicators for NACE 86 and NACE 869 were obtained from the company CRIF - Slovak Credit Bureau. We cover the period 2007-2018. Our results include an evaluation of the criterion of economic efficiency of the industry NACE 86, the sub-industry NACE 869, and individual spa companies using methods of quantifying the impact of determining factors. At the same time, we present the factors that influence development most. We determine the position of spa companies by using multidimensional scaling (MDS). Results show that the total assets turnover ratio and return on sales are contributing factors to the change of ROE to the greatest extent. MDS quantifies that Spa Bojice, a.s., has the best financial position in space, on the other hand, Specialized Medical Institute Marína, s.o., has the worst position.

The article analyzes the results of a survey conducted in 2019–2020 among the clients of the Altai Territory health resort complex. Special attention is paid to the objects of medical and health tourism that are part of Bolshaya Belokurikha (the town and three municipal districts – Altaisky, Smolensky and Soloneshensky). The paper presents the structure of the tourist cluster of medical and health-improving services, describes the natural-ecological, economic-infrastructural and socio-cultural elements of the tourist cluster. Analysis of 1,700 responses to the questionnaires sent to the sanatoriums revealed the most preferred types of services for tourists in the sanatoriums of the region (by target activities – treatment with mineral baths, by related activities – massage). According to the results of the survey, satisfaction with the quality of medical services was 97%, with professionalism of medical personnel – 96%, with medical procedures – 93%, with entertainment programs – 87,9%, and with children's entertainment – 67,9%. Among the main problems in the development of health-improving tourism is the insufficient number of accommodation facilities for SPA and Wellness, VIP-segment tourists, tourist activities of a health-improving nature, including those for children. A positive image of the Bolshaya Belokurikha health resort cluster has developed in the country. Further development of the complex is linked to the need to organize a public-private partnership in the creation and operation of health tourism facilities in the Altai Territory.

Abstract:
This study sought to obtain conglomerates of spa-goers in Andalusia, Spain, based on a survey of 10 spas’ users. The data from 725 valid survey questionnaires were analysed using a quantitative approach. The results show that 44.6% of users are between 65 and 88 years old and more than 60% are women. Approximately 50% of the respondents are retired, and 60% report a monthly income of less than 1000 euros. Three clusters were identified in the segmentation analysis: users with lower, partial and higher satisfaction. Over half (58%) of the respondents belong to the higher satisfaction segment. Thermal tourism evidently has a strong potential for attracting other tourist segments. Andalusia has thermal springs that attract many tourists, which are located in places of great natural beauty and are part of inland towns’ economic development. The findings confirm the need to improve the existing understanding of spa-user typologies. The benefits derived from health tourism can be analyzed from the concept of value proposition for the company, the user, the community and its environment. To generate income, spa companies must meet the expectations of stakeholders and this begins with an organization that constantly learns and innovates to satisfy users. The managers of the spas lead these projects, introducing important changes in their offer, from traditional medical aspects to facilities and therapies based on relaxation and sustainable natural tourism, promoting their organizations with sustained objectives over time capable of satisfying all stakeholders, creating value capable of attracting and satisfying the different segments of spa tourists, as this study shows.

Abstract:
Wellness tourism is fast growing nowadays as alternative tourism developed from conventional spa tourism into special-interest tourism. Therefore, it is interesting to study the phenomenon of this fast developing industry in Bali in order to reveal its advantage for one’s wellness on the basis of the following question: What factors are contributive to the tourists’ intention in enjoying wellness tourism?. This study aims to explore the factors of belief-forming the tourists’ intention or interest to enjoy wellness tourism. The research adopts planned behavior theory (PBT) as its theoretical framework. The data was collected by questionnaires distributed to 100 tourist-respondents accessed by purposive sampling technique. The analysis was quantitatively done using factor analysis technique as a data analytical instrument. The result of the analysis shows that there are 8 belief factors identified to form the tourists’ intention in enjoying wellness tourism. These factors include: 1) the belief in spa’s benefit, 2) price, 3) past experience, 4) moral obligation for health, 5) environmental awareness, 6) personal value, 7) socializing program and 8) health maintenance. It is hoped that this research result would provide valuable information for the development of wellness tourism in Bali.

Abstract:
Spa tourism has undergone important changes in recent decades, actively embracing wellness and wellbeing. However, this transition is taking place in different ways in Europe, and this has led to varying perceptions of thermalism that have little to do with its original conception. The main aim of this study was to analyse current perceptions of spa tourism amongst university students, so as to identify profiles and compare the differences between two study cases: Granada (Spain) and Aachen (Germany). For this purpose, we applied a methodology that combines artificial intelligence techniques with questionnaires containing both quantitative and qualitative variables. This enabled us to identify and characterize a series of profiles, so as to acquire detailed knowledge of the perceptions of these students regarding spa tourism in Granada and Aachen. On the basis of the results, the interviewees were grouped together into seven profiles from which we deduced that young Germans from Aachen visit spas more frequently and have a more realistic perception of the thermal sector than young Spanish people from Granada. This situation could limit present and future demand for spas in southern Spain. With this in mind, in this paper we present an updated assessment of the demand for spas amongst university students, in order to design effective geomarketing strategies in two cities with long spa traditions.

Abstract:
The COVID-19 pandemic has reduced or even temporarily halted tourism worldwide. The lack of tourists has huge consequences not only for the tourism industry, but also for the tourism economy. Health tourism enterprises are also affected by this problem, but their situation is somewhat different from other tourism enterprises, as the relationship of these enterprises with the healthcare system provides an opportunity to continue operations, albeit in a different role than the tourism function. The diagnostic objective of this article is to assess the impact of the pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus on the activities of tourism and medical tourism enterprises operating in spa destinations after 12 months of the pandemic situation. The cognitive objective, on the other hand, is to identify the roles that these companies play in reducing the impact of epidemic risks. The article presents the results of the research conducted in 19 tourism and medical companies, covering 115 sanatorium facilities, run in Polish health spas. The results indicate that although their economic situation is difficult, it is at the same time stable. Two reasons in particular stand out: (1) financial support from government anti-crisis programs; and (2) implementation of rapid organizational changes that enable the implementation of epidemiological prevention tasks, relieving the burden on infectious diseases hospitals by operating an isolation center, a vaccination center, or a quarantine facility for asymptomatic patients. This use of tourism infrastructure contributes to promoting it as open innovation in tourism.

Abstract:
Social entrepreneurs innovate to solve social problems, often related to health. Lead users innovate if extreme needs call for a better solution that is not yet available in the market/society. There is an opportunity for expansion of concept, looking more closely at the impact and evolution of health and spa organizations that start with a community-based non-profit mission. This is a case study using historical data from Iceland and interviews with managers and network partners of a recent important geothermal destination, the Blue Lagoon spa. The case provides an interesting opportunity to apply social entrepreneurships and lead user lenses to explore the history of a health and spa destination. Initially, the idea came from trials of patients with psoriasis from the Spoex foundation, who used the silica- and mineral-enriched wastewater from a geothermal power plant. These treatments led to development of a world-famous health clinic over the course of 25 years. The healing effects of the water have been scientifically confirmed. Parallel to this innovation, the organization developed a mass tourism spa with 1 million visitors annually. Another increasing field for the Blue Lagoon has been skin care and anti-aging products using the water from the lagoon. The tourism spa and health destination history could benefit from being analyzed from the perspective of social entrepreneurs and lead users.

Abstract:
One of the leading tourism products of Hungary is health tourism, where the certain supply segments are influenced by seasonality in different scales. The primary aim of our paper is to survey the seasonality of the 9 spas with the greatest turnover in Hungary with the help of the Gini index. Our research intends to provide an actual picture about the exact measure of seasonality in the highlighted spas of Hungary, due to the overall actuality of the problem and also because no such relevant quantitative research has been dealing with this issue in Hungary yet. The objective reason why these spas were chosen and surveyed is because first of all they are mono profile health tourism centres, where tourists are visiting the settlement exclusively because of the spas, and on the other hand the visitor turnover of the mentioned settlements are significantly higher than the following Hungarian spa towns. We believe that the more we understand seasonality the more we can face with its challenges concerning tourism development. For our seasonality analysis we used the commercial accommodation statistics of the Hungarian Central Statistical Office and to estimate the Gini index we applied the monthly dataset of the guest nights.

Abstract:
The suspension of tourism due to the COVID-19 pandemic has led to an almost complete halt in the activities of the tourism industry. This paper attempts to assess the ability to use the potential of health tourism enterprises in counteracting the SARS-CoV-2 virus pandemic and to propose a sustainable transformation of the business model of the health tourism enterprise, taking into account the determinants of sustainable tourism and health crises. The author presents the results of research conducted in March 2021 among 19 managers of the largest spa enterprises in Poland. The managers’ experiences from the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic indicate that sanatoriums and other health tourism facilities, during periods of health and humanitarian crises, can successfully play a preventive and relieving role for healthcare facilities by implementing post-COVID treatment, conducting vaccinations, organizing isolators for people in quarantine, and even treating patients who do not have symptoms but require hospitalization. The transformation of the business model of these companies, in the form of a sustainable SusHT-CANVAS+ business model, is proposed and the mentioned critical activities are positioned in the model in the form of sustainable value.
