Abstract:

Part and parcel of the conventional wisdom about rural publics in Africa is that populations on the periphery will accord ethnic solidarity greater significance than national consciousness. A survey of neighboring Hausa villages on different sides of the Niger-Nigeria boundary counters this myth. Probing issues of self-identity and ethnic affinity, we found that most Hausa villagers on the frontier did not place their Hausan ethnic identity above their national one as citizens of Nigeria or Niger and expressed greater affinity for non-Hausa cocitizens than for foreign Hausas. However, expressed attachments to ethnic, national, and other social identifications (such as religion) varied according to village: citizenship does make a difference in the political consciousness of villagers on the geographic margins of the state. More survey research in other transborder regions should shed further light on processes of state penetration and national integration in developing countries.

Abstract:

Artykuł prezentuje krytyczną rekonstrukcję wczesnego okresu twórczości Zygmunta Haupta na tle życia intelektualnego i artystycznego Lwowa w latach 30. XX wieku. Lwów był wówczas miastem o bardzo skomplikowanej sytuacji polityczno-społecznej i kulturalnej. Stanowił wielonarodowy, barwny ośrodek urbanistyczny, ale był naznaczony bodaj najpoważniejszymi animozjami narodowościowymi w II RP. We Lwowie wciąż trwała stagnacja w dziedzinie literatury i nauki o literaturze. W połowie lat 30. życie intelektualne i artystyczne miasta zaczęło się jednak zmieniać. Artykuł na tle tych przemian naświetla charakter wczesnych przedsięwzięć artystycznych Haupta i jego związków z grupą literacką zwaną Rybałtami. Podejmie przy tym próbę odpowiedzi na pytania, w jakim stopniu okres lwowski okazał się formacyjny w życiu artystycznym Haupta oraz jakie znaczenie artystyczne i towarzyskie mieli dla Haupta Rybałci, wśród których nie był on przecież personą pierwszoplanową.

Abstract:

Artykuł dotyczy wątków górskich i alpinistycznych w wybranych tekstach Zygmunta Haupta. Autor analizuje sposoby opisywania przestrzeni górskich i doświadczeń związanych z górami, a także rozważa skalę zainteresowania alpinizmem. Rozpatruje, czy podsuwane przez Haupta inspiracje mogą posłużyć za podstawę rekonstrukcji hipotetycznych wpływów i potwierdzać skalę znajomości fachowego piśmiennictwa góroznawczego. Przedstawia, w jaki sposób włączanie gór i związanych z nimi nowych praktyk kulturowych, przede wszystkim wspinaczki i alpinizmu, w obszar eksplorowanych przez Haupta tematów i problemów łączyło się z refleksją pisarza odnośnie do procesów fundujących nowoczesność.

Abstract:

Penelitian ini menjelaskan tentang sumbangan pemikiran Jhon F Haught mengenai relasi sains dan agama. Metode yang digunakan dalam kajian ini menggunakan metode atau pendekatan kepustakaan (library research), bahwa studi pustaka atau kepustakaan dapat diartikan sebagai serangkaian kegiatan yang berkenaan dengan metode pengumpulan data pustaka, membaca dan mencatat serta mengolah bahan penelitian. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Jhon F Haught “melihat? dan “memaknai? integrasi sains dan agama sebagai „dua wajah epistemologi? yang saling bersentuhan dan memunculkan sifat komplementasi yang mencerahkan. Ini menunjukkan bagaimana sains dan agama digali menuju kedalaman sehingga masing-masing akan bertemu pada muara yang sama. Keberanian Haught untuk mengolaborasi evolusi demi kompatibilitas agama merupakan satu keberanian karena pembacaan semacam itu meniscayakan adanya pergeseran teologis. Model integrasi Haught melahirkan teologi evolusi yang merupakan sebuah bangunan epistemologi-teologis “berwajah” rekonstruksionis modern yang membawa agama begitu jauh demi kesesuaiannya dengan perkembangan sains. Dengan kata lain, teologi menjadi tolak ukur teori-teori ilmiah tersebut dengan memasukkan entitas keislaman pada struktur sains.

Abstract:

Tulisan ini menengahkan pemikiran tokoh kontemporer yang begitu intens mengkaji model integrasi sains dan agama, yaitu J.F Haught. Hal ini penting dibahas dalam rangka memberikan sumbangan pemikiran untuk membuat tatan hubungan konstruktif antara sains dan agama. Tulisan ini berdasarkan penelitian pustaka. Dari pembahasan diketahui bahwa ketika meninjau model integrasi teologi evolusi (evolution theology) dan sains Islam (Islamic science) terlihat perbedaan yang sangat jelas dimana Haught menerapkan integrasi pada teori evolusi (hanya salah satu jenis sains) Teologi di tangan Haught bersifat sangat adaptif, karena ia berpandangan bahwa teologi adalah bagian dari olah manusiawi yang selalu bergerak. Sehingga ketika teologi bertemu dengan evolusi sains lain maka dimungkinkan adanya perubahan. pemikiran tokoh J.F Haught dapat dijadikan sebagai landasan filosofis dan akademis dalam upaya penguatan eksistensi pengembangan ilmu pengetahuan dan agama secara integrative-subtantif yang seyogyanya sejak awal sudah dilandasi oleh nilai-nilai agama, sehingga agama akan menjadi ruh bagi konstruksi ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi yang akan digali maupun dikembangkan.

Justus Haucap ist Vorsitzender der Monopolkommission und Direktor des Düsseldorf Institute of Competition Economics (DICE). Der 42-jährige Haucap hat in Saarbrücken Volkswirtschaft studiert und dort bei Prof. Dr. Rudolf Richter mit einer institutionenökonomischen Analyse des Werbemarktes promoviert. Nach einer zweijährigen Zwischenstation als wettbewerbsökonomischer Analyst bei einer politischen Beratungsbehörde in Neuseeland war Haucap wissenschaftlicher Assistent bei Prof. Dr. Jörn Kruse an der Helmut-Schmidt-Universität in Hamburg, wo er 2003 auch habilitiert wurde. Haucaps Forschung hat sich auch immer wieder mit medienökonomischen Problemstellungen befasst. Einige der wichtigen neueren theoretischen Erkenntnisse der Medienökonomie gehen auf Arbeiten Haucaps zurück. Er ist zudem langjähriges Mitglied im Redaktionsbeirat der MedienWirtschaft sowie weiterer Fachzeitschriften.

Abstract:

Prezentowany artykuł podejmuje tematykę konstrukcji świata przedstawionego, a zwłaszcza literackich postaci, w prozie Zygmunta Haupta z wykorzystaniem narzędzi psychoanalizy Sigmunda Freuda oraz Jacques’a Lacana. Szczególnie istotna w tym kontekście okazuje się koncepcja popędu jako artystycznego montażu wypracowana przez francuskiego psychoanalityka. Z jej pomocą analizie poddane zostały literackie portrety wybranych bohaterek Haupta. Proza ta, skonstruowana na zasadzie montażu wspomnień, wskazuje jednocześnie na sam mechanizm wyobrażeniowej reprezentacji napędzany przez sprężynę popędową. To ona jest podstawą sceny, na której prezentowane są poszczególne postaci, ona je napędza, ona wreszcie jest metaforą ukazującą mechanizm wspominania i pisania. Napędzane przez sprężynę popędową postaci Haupta przypominają lalki albo manekiny, wskazując tym samym również na surrealistyczną tradycję, w obrębie której przedstawienia te mogą być lokowane.

Abstract:

Artykuł omawia problematykę opisu w twórczości Zygmunta Haupta z wykorzystaniem inspiracji płynących ze strony współczesnego „zwrotu deskryptywnego” w literaturoznawstwie. Przypomniane zostały wczesne diagnozy krytyki literackiej wskazującej na wyjątkową wartość opisów Haupta, które pisarz włączał do swych opowiadań, mimo iż zdawał sobie sprawę z kryzysu zdolności mimetycznych literatury. Świadomie podejmował przy tym wysiłek „usprawiedliwiania opisu”, który pojawiał się u niego, jak zauważył Jerzy Stempowski, albo jako część całościowej wizji świata zewnętrznego z przywoływanymi próbnie uzasadnieniami filozoficznymi, albo jako element zdarzających się bohaterom opowiadań Haupta chwilom styku z realnością dostępną w znalezionych przypadkiem ramach lub „prześwitach”. Artykuł omawia kolejno te dwie metody uzasadniania części deskryptywnych, wykorzystane zostały przy tym pojęcia realizmu spekulatywnego, a także filozofii Kazimierza Twardowskiego, z której korzystają rzecznicy nowych form realizmu we współczesnej filozofii.

Abstract:

Motyw entropii w twórczości Zygmunta Haupta był unikatowym momentem kojarzącym spekulatywność nowoczesnego scjentyzmu z modernistyczną prozą. Wyjaśnienie naukowe – fizyka – posłużyło interpretacji historii naturalnej i społecznej świata. Drugie prawo dynamiki, na ogół rozumiane w humanistycznym ujęciu jako pesymistyczna perspektywa przemijania energetycznej żywotności życia, świata ludzkiego, cywilizacji, u Haupta rozszerzyło swoje konotacje. Ameryka u progu jej doświadczenia przez pisarza niosła przesłanie zarazem nadziei i beznadziei. W artykule sygnalizuję podobieństwa prozy Haupta i Faulknera. I nakładanie się na formalne podobieństwo pokrewieństwa światopoglądowego. Piszących o Delcie Missisipi nowoczesnych prozaików interesuje brak równowagi między naturą i cywilizacją, który prowadzi do kryzysu tak natury, jak i ludzkiego społeczeństwa. Entropia okazuje się tutaj paradoksalnym śladem nadziei we wzrastającym nieporządku, który może zwiastować „pączkowanie” nowego systemu, a wraz z nim formę młodszej entropii.

Abstract:

The study was carried out to deduce the tooth occlusion pattern among the Hausas in Zaria, Nigeria. A total of 384 subjects made up of 184 males and 200 females within the ages of 20-49 years participated in this study. Data was collected by means of questionnaire. Results revealed that mild overbite type is the commonest (male = 33.6%, female = 32.6%) which was followed by edge to edge bite (male = 13.3%, female = 10.4%). The incidence of the severe overbite was observed more in males (3.4%) than females (2.1%). The incidence of negative overbite was observed more in females (2.9%) than males (1.8%). The results showed no significant gender difference (p≥0.05) in the tooth occlusion pattern. The tooth occlusion pattern of the Hausas in Zaria, Nigeria is such that some occlusion types are relatively more common in females than the male counterparts and vice versa. The mild overbite type of occlusion is the commonest among the Hausas in Zaria, Nigeria. The negative overbite is the least common tooth occlusion pattern among the Hausas in Zaria, Nigeria. Abstract:

Dermatoglypics is the study of dermal ridges on finger balls, palm of the hand and sole of the feet, and provides a myriad of genetic information which are pointer to inherited genetic diseases. The aim of the study was to analyze palm prints (palmer triridii angles) among Hausas of Kano and Zaria. A total of 600 subjects comprising of 300 participants from two original Hausa metropolis (Kano and Zaria) with 1:1 male to female ratio participated. Ink method was used to capture palm prints. Chi-square was used to determine the association between the variables. The result of the study showed that a significant gender differences in the mean value were observed in the atd and dat angles in both cities and Hausas of Kano (t=-2.97, p <0.05 for atd, t= 2.59, P< 0.05 for dat) with no significance in the Hausas of Zaria in right hand. However, a statistical significant difference was present in the atd and adt angles in both cities and Hausas of Kano (t=-4.99, p <0.001 for atd, t= 5.09, p< 0.001 for adt). For the Hausas of Zaria only the atd (t=-3.30, p <0.05 for atd) angle shows significant difference. For comparison based on sex, no significant differences was observed between males from Kano and Zaria, and females from Kano and Zaria with respects to dat and adt angles of right palmer triradii. However, a significant difference was observed between Kano and Zaria males with respects to dat and adt angles of palmer triradii respectively.

Abstract:

W artykule podjęta została próba ponownego odczytania opowiadania Zygmunta Haupta Deszcz. Interpretacja skupia się zarówno na specyfice użytych strategii literackich, jak i wymiarze etycznym utworu. Poetyka tekstu Haupta zmusza do zastanowienia nad jego ukrytymi sensami – ukazany w nim pejzaż, odtwarzany w pamięci narratora, staje się punktem wyjścia do rozważań o kondycji człowieka w świecie rozchwianych wartości. Pisarz nie narzuca własnej perspektywy oglądu przedstawianych zdarzeń, lecz skłania odbiorcę do poszukiwania własnej.

Tekst poświęcony jest pracy Zygmunta Haupta jako redaktora rozgłośni radiowej „Głos Ameryki”. Analizie poddane zostały oryginalne skrypty autorskich audycji, które zachowały się w archiwum pisarza zdeponowanym na Uniwersytecie Stanforda. Tekst dzieli się na dwie części. W pierwszej scharakteryzowana została całość radiowej twórczości Haupta, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem jej wymiaru propagandowego. W drugiej części szczegółowej analizie poddane zostały dwie reprezentatywne audycje, w których pisarz wykorzystał całe spektrum różnego rodzaju środków perswazyjnych, jednocześnie dbając o ich artystyczny wymiar.

A lectotype is designated here for Cocos poni, a species first proposed by Hauman in Las Palmeras de la Flora Argentina and currently treated as a synonym of Butia yatay or B. paraguayensis. Collections were made in the locality designated by Hauman based on his photos and description, and an epitype for this species is also designated here. Butia poni is recognized as a distinct species. This paper includes a description, photos, relationships, geographic distribution, and conservation assessment for Butia poni.

Abstract:

Artykuł przynosi próbę analizy procesu tekstotwórczego opowiadania Zygmunta Haupta pod tytułem Entropia. Wykorzystano bruliony utworu znajdujące się wśród spuścizny pisarza przechowywanej w zbiorach specjalnych biblioteki Stanford University. Analizę umieszczono w kontekście obserwacji badaczy, którzy podkreślają złożoność zabiegów literackich autora Lutni skupionego na próbie ukazania skomplikowanego statusu podmiotu w świecie nowoczesnym. Autor tekstu chce udowodnić, że bruliony Haupta są integralną, żywą częścią jego pisarstwa, w którym nigdy nie kończy się batalia o ukazanie wciąż na nowo odkrywanych wartości płynących z relacji człowieka i miejsca.

HAULAS es una estrategia innovadora para preparar a los aprendices a enfrentar los retos de la sociedad del conocimiento. Se realizó un estudio descriptivo y para incrementar el conocimiento sobre la estrategia desarrollada presentando la metodología de esta y sus ejes y un estudio cuantitativo analizando los resultados. Participaron en la en el estudio experimental 147 estudiantes de entre 13 y 45 años. Los resultados obtenidos demostraron que los ejes centrales de la estrategia HAULAS, tales como el aprendizaje colaborativo, el aprendizaje basado en problema y la evaluación, son ejes claves para motivar a los estudiantes y mejorar sus producciones escritas con el fin de prepararlos para la sociedad del conocimiento. Por lo que se sugiere un estudio experimental con una muestra más amplia.

Porównanie z twórczością Andrzeja Bobkowskiego prowadzi do sformułowania, ujętej już w tytule, podskórnej sprzeczności między tendencjami anarchistycznymi w dziele Haupta a właściwym mu jako artyście dążeniu do precyzji.

Abstract:

Anthropometry is the measurement of variables such as foot height, length and width of human body. The current study was conducted to estimate stature from foot dimensions among Hausas and Yorubas of Faculty of Basic Medical Science in Bayero University, Kano. The objectives were to obtain height and foot dimensions; determine sexual dimorphism, correlation and to estimate stature. The materials used were stadiometer and a digital vernier caliper. Sampling was done randomly. The sample size was 400 subjects (200 Hausas and 200 Yorubas). Statistical significance was deemed acceptable at p<0.05. It was observed that all the variables have significant sexual dimorphism. Among the Hausas, all the variables correlated strongly with each other except for BMI and all foot dimensions. There was a weak negative correlation that is statistically significant between BMI and height. Among the Yorubas, weight, height and BMI correlated strongly with one another, and also all foot dimensions correlated strongly with weight and height except LFB and weight where there was a weak positive correlation that is statistically significant. There was a weak positive correlation that is statistically significant between RFB and BMI while LFB and BMI correlate strongly with each other. Both foot lengths do not correlate with BMI. A significant relationship was found between the selected forensic parameters and the foot dimensions among Hausas and Yorubas of Faculty of Basic Medical Science in Bayero University, Kano.

Niihin voi liittyä jaettua toimijuutta, joka sisältää kuulluksi ja ymmärretyksi tulemisen kokemuksia ja yhteisiin päämääriin sitoutumista. Tässä artikkelissa tarkastelemme jaettua toimijuutta haurastuttavia toiminta- ja puhetapoja ammatillisen kuntoutuksen yhteistoiminnassa. Aineisto kerättiin osana Kelan ammatillista kuntoutusselvitystä koskevaa arviointitutkimusta, ja se sisälsi eri osapuolten haastatteluja ja avoimia kyselyvastauksia. Temaattisessa analyysissa kiinnitimme huomiomme jaetun toimijuuden kannalta keskeisiin yhteistoiminnan prosesseihin. Suunnittelun ja päätöksenteon prosesseissa jaettua toimijuutta haurastuttivat jännitteiset ja jäykät toimintatavat. Niihin liittyi neuvotteluasemien epätasa-arvoisuutta, palvelun kehyksen ja kuntoutustyön arjen välisiä jännitteitä sekä ajallista epätahtisuutta. Sitoutumisen, vastuun ja tuen prosesseissa aktiivista, yksilöllistä toimijuutta korostavat ajattelutavat vaikeuttivat tuen jatkuvuuden tarpeen tunnistamista ja järjestelmien vastuunottoa.

W artykule podejmuję refleksję nad przestrzeniami inspiracji, „praiłami” twórczości Zygmunta Haupta. Dostrzegam specyficzną, „zaimkową” orientację przestrzenną w jego tekstach, wykorzystywanie przez pisarza wyrażenia przyimkowego „u nas”, kontrastowych zestawień „tam” – „tu” i szukam odpowiedzi, jaką przestrzeń „ukrywały” owe zaimki. Odrzucam prostą tezę, iż była to Ukraina, ponieważ świat przedstawiony w tekstach Haupta obejmuje tylko jej zachodni skrawek. Pisarz z jednej strony poetyzował przestrzeń „swojego kraju”, z drugiej zaś wpisywał ją, często nieprecyzyjnie, w geograficzny konkret. Najlepszym określeniem owej przestrzeni, które rozrosło się do metafory „miejsc pochodzenia”, wydaje się „powiat latyczowski”, gdzie natchnień mogą szukać twórcy oderwani od swoich „praiłów”. Zmienne granice owego „powiatu” wytycza za każdym razem tylko wyobraźnia konkretnego artysty.

Zygmunt Haupt’s preserved correspondence with the editors of Tematy (Paweł Mayewski and Jan Kempka) from the years 1962-1970 consists of seventeen letters. During that time, Haupt published in the quarterly from New York his translations of three poems by Robert Frost and one by Robert Lowell, as well as one short story of his own. This correspondence, although modest in volume, is an interesting testimony of Haupt’s collaboration with an important émigré journal. It also presents the writer as someone interested in the current literary life, trying his hand as a translator of American poetry.

Abstract:

Dialectology is an area of linguistics that is concerned with the studies of similarities and differences in speech forms of a particular language. Dialectologists are more interested in studying the relationship existing in speech forms of a language instead of their differences, thus, the relationship is what assists greatly in maintaining mutual intelligibility among the speakers of the same language. Scholars of Hausa dialectology have classified Hausa regional dialects into two major divisions of Eastern and Western Hausa dialects. The divisions were based on the geographical locations and common linguistic features of the dialects that constituted each of the major groups. A regional dialect can be distinguished with another in a particular language at different levels of linguistic studies that include; phonetics, phonology, morphology syntax and the lexicon. This paper is concerned with the phonological variation of Western Hausa dialects. The aim of this paper among other things is to bring to the limelight some neglected Hausa Western dialects that were merged or not included in the earlier division of Hausa dialects classification. The paper attempts to some extent, to study the linguistic features of the Western Hausa dialects as at the present time. The Western Hausa dialects that were brought to the limelight in this paper are: Zamfarci, Kabanci, Arauci, Gobirci, and Adaranci Western dialects of Hausa. The paper has studied the common phonological features of these dialects that shared a regional boundary in the western part of Hausa land which was earlier considered as a single Hausa dialect of Sakkwatanci. A research survey was conducted among a number of speakers in different regions of these dialects through a questionnaire and recorded interviews to establish the existence of the dialects as well as their common features and differences that make them dialects of one language. The research was also guided by a theory of Generative Phonology and Dialectology in Generative Grammar. Findings of the research discovered that the western dialects have common phonological features and share boundaries with each other despite the fact that they have some idiosyncratic features that distinguish them as separate dialects.

This paper looked at the significance of special concepts on Traditional Architecture of the Hausas in Nigeria. Traditional architecture may be defined as an inherited art and science from the past generation in the area of planning and designing with consideration to the provision of spaces for the individual and public interest and the construction of buildings with available local building materials. The aim of this study was to conduct exploratory research on the significance of special concepts of traditional architecture of the Hausas in Nigeria, and specific objectives were used to identify and examine these concepts and their importance and how they have influenced the use of traditional building materials, technology deployed and their consequence on traditional architecture of the Hausas in Nigeria. The study critically reviewed existing literatures on traditional architecture and explores the key importance relating to the concept of Hausa traditional architecture. In addition, the research identified the factors that contribute to the concept of Hausa traditional architecture. The study concluded with a recommendation to all professionals in the built environment to embrace and adapt traditional architecture in their design provisions and execution to give identifiable character. It will be sad if our traditional building styles and construction techniques disappear from the universe. The gains derived from our local methods and materials are enormous and need to be propagated, while any inadequacies associated with the traditional approach can be improved.

Abstract Literary criticism has mentioned some affinities between Guy de Maupassant’s literary work and Freud’s psychoanalysis, without ever reflecting on Maupassant’s literary anticipation of the Oedipus complex. The latter is particularly evident in the short novel Hautot père et fils (1889), which has not received much attention to date. The article aims to illustrate some evident parallels between Maupassant’s literary representation of a father-son conflict and Freud’s scientific approach. In doing so, it does not intend to deliver a demonstration of the emergence of Freudian concepts from naturalistic fiction. It shall rather be considered as a literary case study, which illustrates the discourse-historical process of transformation from the physiological paradigm of naturalism to the psychological paradigm of the arising psychoanalysis.
