Many prominent scientists have pointed out that philosophy is of no benefit to science. Stephen Hawking asserts: Philosophy is dead!
Sciences use conceptions like natural laws, matter, nature, theories, etc. But science is also confronted with questions such as: "What is a natural law?" "What is nature?" "What is matter?" and "What is a scientific theory?" These (metatheoretical) questions exceed the sphere of competence of science – they are items of the philosophy of science. Philosophy of science is a metatheory of science. The Philosophy of science overlaps epistemology, ontology, and metaphysics by exploring whether scientific results are true, or whether entities like quarks or electrons really exist. More detailed investigations bring various questions into consideration such as: "How do we define the boundaries between different scientific disciplines?" "Is there a relation between the beauty and the truth of a scientific theory?" and "How do we distinguish between science and pseudoscience?" Additionally, the philosophy of science is concerned with ethical problems of modern technology, with the methodological questions, with the reconstruction of the structure and the development of scientific theories, and with revealing of any indoctrination of science.
The optimistic conclusion of this paper is: Philosophy is still alive – but the philosopher has to participate in round-table discussions with scientists. We just want philosophers talking to scientists!

The topic of this thesis is the hat problem. In this problem, a team of n players enters a room, and a blue or red hat is randomly placed on the head of each player. Every player can see the hats of all of the other players but not his own. Then each player must simultaneously guess the color of his own hat or pass. The team wins if at least one player guesses his hat color correctly and no one guesses his hat color wrong, otherwise the team loses. The aim is to maximize the probability of winning. This thesis is based on publications, which form the second chapter. In the first chapter we give an overview of the published results. In Section 1.1 we introduce to the hat problem and the hat problem on a graph, where vertices correspond to players, and a player can see the adjacent players. To the hat problem on a graph we devote the next few sections. First, we give some fundamental theorems about the problem. Then we solve the hat problem on trees, cycles, and unicyclic graphs. Next we consider the hat problem on graphs with a universal vertex. We also investigate the problem on graphs with a neighborhood-dominated vertex. In addition, we consider the hat problem on disconnected graphs. Next we investigate the problem on graphs such that the only known information are degrees of vertices. We also present Nordhaus-Gaddum type inequalities for the hat problem on a graph. In Section 1.6 we investigate the hat problem on directed graphs. The topic of Section 1.7 is the generalized hat problem with q >= 2 colors. A modified hat problem is considered in Section 1.8. In this problem there are n >= 3 players and two colors. The players do not have to guess their hat colors simultaneously and we modify the way of making a guess. We give an optimal strategy for this problem which guarantees the win. Applications of the hat problem and its connections to different areas of science are presented in Section 1.9. We also give there a comprehensive list of variations of the hat problem considered in the literature.

Die Zentren für Lehrerbildung an den sächsischen Universitäten führen seit 2008 (TU Dresden) bzw. seit 2009 (Universität Leipzig) mit finanzieller Unterstützung des SMWK und des SMK Befragungen von Studierenden und Dozenten durch, die in Verbindung mit anderen Informationen einer kritische Bestandsaufnahme der neu eingeführten
BA/MA-Lehramtsausbildung dienen sollen. Wenn man sich der Einschränkungen und Grenzen von Befragungen bewusst ist, kann man statt von einer Bestandsaufnahme auch von Evaluationsstudien sprechen. Aktuelle Ergebnisse, die sich zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt allerdings nur auf den BA-Abschnitt des Studiums beziehen
können, werden auf einer Arbeitstagung am 4. Juni 2010 vorgestellt. Wie dem Programm zu entnehmen ist, wollen wir aber nicht bei der Präsentation der Resultate stehen bleiben. Dem Anspruch unserer Begleitforschung entsprechend, an der Lehrerbildung beteiligten Akteuren aus Hochschule und Politik nutzbare Informationen anzubieten, haben wir Schlussfolgerungen gezogen und Problemfelder der Lehrerbildung in Sachsen benannt, die wir zur Diskussion stellen.
Ein Forum zum Weiterdenken auf der Grundlage der Befragungsergebnisse soll die am Nachmittag stattfindende Podiumsdiskussion sein, zu der wir Vertreter der Ministerien (SMWK und SMK), der Hochschulleitungen und der Studierenden eingeladen haben.

Patienter som drabbas av svår njursvikt klarar inte längre att rena blodet på ett tillfredställande sätt. För att överleva krävs dialys. Behandlingen genomförs på två olika sätt nämligen hemo- och peritonealdialys. Att behandlas med dialys leder till en stor livsomställning och lidande för patienten på olika sätt. Medicinska restriktioner och fysiska symtom är något som begränsar patientens förmåga att upprätthålla ett normalt liv med fungerande relationer. Genom att öka kunskapen om dialysbehandlingens påverkan kan sjukvården bemöta och förstå patienten på ett bättre sätt. Studiens syfte är att belysa hur patienter som genomgår hemodialysbehandling upplever sin livssituation. En litteraturstudie har genomförts där tio kvalitativa artiklar analyserats och sammanställts. Sex huvudteman och fjorton underteman formulerades och ligger till grund för studiens resultat. I resultatet framkommer att fysisk och psykisk påverkan är vanligt förekommande hos patienter som behandlas med hemodialys. Även begränsningar i vardagen och beroendet till personal och maskin förändrade patienternas liv. Patienter uppfattade familj- och vårdrelationer som mycket viktiga för att stötta vid behandlingen, men vanligt var att relationer med närstående ofta tog stor skada. Även strategier för att handskas med behandlingen och reflektioner om framtiden redovisas. I diskussionen belyses patientens beroende och relationer, även hur sjuksköterskan kan förhålla sig till patienter med dialys på ett korrekt och värdigt sätt diskuteras.<br>Program: Sjuksköterskeutbildning

Heteromeric amino acid transporters (HATs) mediate the transport of amino acids through the plasma membrane. They are composed of two subunits (a heavy and a light one) linked by a conserved disulfide bridge. Genetic defects in the genes coding these HATs may affect its functionality or expression, leading to inherited aminoacidurias. Thus, solving the structure of the Eukaryotic HATs has become of great importance. However structural information about interactions between the heavy and light subunits of HATs is scarce.
In this work, human 4F2hc/L-type amino acid transporter 2 (LAT2) first low resolution 3D model obtained by single particle negative-staining transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was validated. In order to assess the interaction between both subunits of the heterodimer, crosslinking experiments between cysteine residues in both moieties was tried. Namely, two chemical spacers of different length (10.5 and 14.3 Å) were tested and crosslinking was observed for those mutants with pairing positions between 8 and 17.5 Å. Indeed, specific residues that crosslinked 4F2hc and LAT2 nearly completely (>80%). As a result of the positive results (as compared to the appropriate controls) the idea that 4F2hc-ED almost completely covers the extracellular surface of the transporter subunit LAT2 is reasonable. Moreover, further varied evidences (TEM, SPA and docking experiments) were in line with the obtained results, revealing that the extracellular domain of 4F2hc interacts with LAT2, almost completely covering the extracellular face of the transporter. The interaction of 4F2hc with LAT2 gives insights into the structural bases for light subunit recognition and the stabilizing role of the ancillary protein in HATs. In addition, it has been demonstrated that the ectodomain of 4F2hc suffices the stabilization of the light subunit.
The second goal of the thesis was to find a suitable HAT candidate to perform crystallization trials and posterior structure elucidation, since human 4F2h/LAT2 was not stable enough for this aim. Until now, only the human 4F2hc ectodomain atomic structure has been solved (Fort et al., 2007), and some low sequence amino acid identity prokaryotic homologues of LATs.
In order to identify putative good eukaryotic light subunits for 3D crystallization the adopted GFP‐based Saccharomyces cerevisiae protocol for our transporters resulted successful since it allowed to find three putative good candidate eukaryotic light subunits for 3D crystallization studies. GFP technology allowed quick expression screening, membrane protein-detergent solubilization screening and finally another screening step including assessment of the stability by ultracentrifugation dispersity sedimentation.
Once the candidates selected in the best conditions, further purification was required (size exclusion chromatography) before attempting crystallization. In this sense, further efforts were delivered in order to try to enhance the stability (and minimize aggregation). Thus, addition of lipids in the solubilization step and during protein purification was used to mimic the protein membrane environment and reduce the aggregation. Really interesting is the stabilizing effect that cholesterol has on almost all light subunits tested. This is in concordance with the fact that 4F2hc has been found located in lipid rafts where membrane are rich in cholesterol. Removal of reactive cysteine and generation of truncated versions of the protein in the C and N terminal were introduced to increase the crystallization probability. This work ended with the finding of 3 good candidates for crystallization screenings, and the best candidate was optimized in terms of stability and protein flexibility for crystallization studies. Just preliminary crystallization trials were done.<br>Los transportadores heteroméricos de aminoácidos (HAT) median el transporte de aminoácidos a través de la membrana plasmática. Representan el único ejemplo de transportadores de solutos formado por dos subunidades distintas unidas por un puente disulfuro. Debido a su gran relevancia en fisiología (asociados a aminoacidurias, infección por virus, cáncer,…) el estudio de su estructura-función resulta clave. Debido a su naturaleza, son proteínas difíciles de cristalizar, de las que sólo se conoce la estructura atómica del ectodominio de 4F2hc humano. En este escenario la tesis se centró en la validación del primer modelo 3D a baja resolución de un HAT humano (4F2hc/LAT2), mediante experimentos de crosslinking entre subunidades, e identificación de nuevos candidatos para cristalización 3D. Para ello se seleccionaron 24 subunidades ligeras de distintas especies eucariotas y se testaron en un proceso de selección para determinar el/los mejores candidatos.
El primer objetivo de la tesis concluyó con la determinación de residuos concretos en 4F2hc y LAT2 cercanos a una distancia de 3-14 Å mediante la utilización de crosslinkings de cisteínas. Finalmente, tres líneas distintas: el modelo 3D obtenido por microscopía electrónica de transmisión y tinción negativa de partículas individuales (en colaboración con Dr. Fotiadis), los experimentos de crosslinking, y el docking generado en colaboración con Dr. Fdz-Recio, demostraron que 4F2hc-ED cubre, casi completamente, la superficie extracelular de LAT2. Además, se demostró que el ectodominio de 4F2hc es suficiente para estabilizar LAT2.
Como resultados del segundo objetivo, tres subunidades ligeras fueron seleccionadas, tras adaptar el protocolo desarrollado por Drew et al.,2008, como mejores candidatas para estudios de cristalización 3D. Posteriormente, distintas estrategias se siguieron para mejorar la estabilidad de la mejor candidata: eliminación de la cisteína reactiva, adición de lípidos a la muestra, cambio de sistema de expresión para aumentar su expresión a células de insecto Sf9. Además, se generaron mutantes delecionados en N y C terminal para reducir su flexibilidad y aumentar la probabilidad de cristalización. Se concluyó en encontrar un buen candidato para estudios de cristalización.

La préparation de y-lactols et méthylène-y-lactols a été réalisée via un processus monotope, alternative efficace à la réaction de Ueno-Stork, qui implique la cyclisation radicalaire d’acétal aluminiques alpha-halogéné à basse température. La réaction d’oxydation in situ des espèces aluminiques obtenues après cyclisation de type 5-exo-dig permet de conduire à des buténolides énantio-enrichis polysubstitués dans des conditions très douces. Cette approche a été comparée avec des conditions de cyclisation classiques d’esters alphahalogénés à plus haute température. Des expériences de marquage au deutérium ont permis de mettre en évidence le transfert 1-5 d’atome d’hydrogène (1,5- HAT) qui se produisent à haute température et les conséquences de celle-ci dans l’épimérisation de centres stéréogènes. Une étude mécanistique combinant des analyses RMN 13C-Inept DOSY à basse température et des calculs DFT nous a permis de proposer une structure pour les espèces aluminiques impliquées et de réaliser une étude de la diastéréosélectivité des réactions de cyclisation 5-exo-trig et 5-exo-dig. Cette étude in silico nous ont permis d’envisager un contrôle du centre C3 lors de la cyclisation grâce à un transfert de chiralité du centre acétalique, formé de façon stéréosélective par réduction d’esters alpha-halogénés énantiomériquement enrichis. Ces prédictions ont été validées à travers la synthèse de diols 1-4 et dans l’élaboration de motifs tétrahydrofuranes tétrasubstitués optiquement enrichis<br>The preparation of y-lactols and methylene-y-lactols was achieved via a one-pot procedure, which represents a useful alternative to the classical Ueno-Stork reaction and involves the radical cyclisation of alphahaloaluminium acetals at low temperature. The oxidation in situ of the cyclic aluminium acetal species resulting from a 5-exo-dig process led to enantioenriched butenolides under mild reaction conditions. This approach compared favorably with the classical reaction conditions for the cyclisation of alphabromoesters at high temperature. Deuterium-labelling experiments allowed us to highlight 1,5-hydrogen atom transfers that occur at thigh temperature and are responsible for epimerization reactions. A mechanistic study combining 13C-Inept DOSY NMR analyses at low temperature and DFT calculations allowed us to propose a structure for the aluminium acetal species involved and to conduct a systematic study of the diastereoselectivity of the 5-exo-trig and 5- exo-dig radical cyclisation. Thanks to this study in silico, the control of stereocentre at C3 could be envisaged via a chirality transfer from the aluminium acetal centre, obtained in a diastereoselective reduction of enantioenriched bromoesters. This prediction proved to be correct and was illustrated through the stereoselective synthesis of diols 1-4 and tetrasubstituted tetrahydrofurans

Previous research from the perspective of the sociocultural theory of learning indicates that discussion and interaction with other people promote language learning. The purpose of the present study is to examine discussions of 12 German university-level students solving a linguistic task, a translation, in groups during their Swedish language lessons. The key point is to investigate the benefits of collaborative tasks in language learning. When translating the text together, the students verbalized their hypotheses about the Swedish grammar and compared their implicit conceptions with their fellow students. The students used many different strategies to give explanations to problematic linguistic phenomena. The discussions were usually democratic, but it has also shown that the students’ language skills and personality played a central role in the decision making process. Moreover, the analysis reveals that the translations produced by the groups were more accurate than those written individually. Finally, implications of these results and pointers to further exploration are discussed.

Skeletal muscle specification and differentiation programs are regulated by the myogenic regulatory factors which include Myf5, MyoD, myogenin and Mrf4. Upstream of the MRFs, the transcription co-activators and other intracellular and extracellular signals play crucial roles in regulating skeletal myogenesis. Histone acetyltransferase activity of p300 is required for Myf5 and MyoD expression. Furthermore, the MyoD core enhancer region is indispensable for MyoD expression. However, the mechanism by which p300 activates MyoD gene expression is to be determined. The histone acetyltransferase activity of p300 can be inhibited by small molecule inhibitors such as curcumin. Thus, using the inhibitor approach on stem cells is useful to investigate the role of p300 in activating MyoD expression during myogenesis. We here show that curcumin was able to inhibit stem cell determination and differentiation into skeletal myocytes. We also show that p300 is present, and histone acetylation is high at the core enhancer region. Therefore, we provide evidence that p300 is directly involved in MyoD gene expression during skeletal myogenesis.

Att fastställa vad som tillhör en hatisk och tillika sinister inställning gentemot muslimer och vad som utgör en uppriktig men likväl välvillig kritik av särskilda föreställningar inom islam tycks emellertid vara ett brydsamt företag. Ett utredande av begreppets innebörd är följaktligen angeläget. Uppsatsens syfte är att systematisera och kategorisera vad forskare menar med islamofobi när de använder begreppet. Uppsatsens frågeställning lyder: Vilka variationer finns det vid definitionen av islamofobi och hur kan dessa kategoriseras? Uppsatsen är en begreppsutredande studie och materialet består av 74 vetenskapliga artiklar med ”islamophobia” i titeln. Sammanfattningsvis har materialet indelats i fem olika kategorier; de som lämnar begreppet odefinierat, en definition av islamofobi som följer den definition som görs i the Runnymede Trusts rapport, islamofobi som känsla, islamofobi som rasism och slutligen ifall det är muslimer och/eller islam som är måltavlan för islamofobi. Os elementos de transposição (TEs) são ubíquos e abundantes, presentes nos mais diversos genomas analisados até então. Neste trabalho foram estudadas duas famílias de elementos (hosimary e hobo) pertencentes à superfamília hAT de transposons que possui membros amplamente distribuídos. Descrevemos aqui uma nova família de TEs denominada hosimary que surgiu da análise de sequências inicialmente descritas por nosso grupo de pesquisa, e que foram denominadas hosim e hosec. Através de análise de PCR sequências homólogas a hosim e hosec foram buscadas no genoma de 51 espécies de drosofilídeos e foram detectadas apenas em espécies do subgrupo melanogaster de Drosophila e em Zaprionus indianus. Entre essas espécies o número de cópias observadas mostrou-se variável, sendo que a maioria das sequências mostrou-se potencialmente codificadora. A alta similaridade entre essas sequências de dois gêneros distintos, juntamente com inconsistências observadas entre a filogenia da espécie hospedeira e dos TEs, pode ser um indicativo de transferência horizontal desses elementos. Adicionalmente, as sequências apresentaram uma similaridade maior que 90%, e baixa similaridade com outros elementos descritos, o que nos levou a sugerir que essas sequências devam constituir uma nova família, a qual denominamos hosimary. A outra família analisada neste trabalho inclui os elementos hobo e hoboVA (ou hoboVAHS), que podem estar envolvidos em um fenômeno de hipermutabilidade observado por nosso grupo de pesquisa. Através da análise de expressão transcricional dos elementos foram detectados transcritos senso e antisenso, sugerindo a atuação de um mecanismo de interferência por RNA (iRNA) como controlador da atividade destes elementos. Através de hibridização in situ de embriões inteiros o padrão de expressão de hobo e hoboVAHS revelou similaridades com padrões observados para genes do desenvolvimento. Isso nos levou a sugerir a existência de sequências cis-reguladoras nos elementos que podem estar interagindo com genes do hospedeiro. A presença destas sequências cis-reguladoras em TEs pode ter implicações evolutivas, uma vez que podem ser geradoras de variabilidade genética.<br>Transposable elements (TEs) are ubiquitous and abundant in several analyzed genomes. In this work two TE families (hosimary and hobo), belonging to the hAT superfamily, were studied. Here is described a new family, called hosimary, that was arised of analyzes of two sequences initially described by our research group (hosim e hosec). By performing PCR analysis in 50 drosophilidae species, sequences homologous to hosim and hosec were detected in Drosophila species of the melanogaster subgroup and in Zaprionus indianus. The number of copies observed among these species showed to be variable and most sequences presented coding potential. High similarity between these sequences, which belong to two distinct genera, as well as some inconsistencies among the phylogeny of the host species and the TEs were observed. This can be an indicative of horizontal transfer of these elements. Additionally, the sequences presented more than 90% of mutual similarity and no significant similarity with other already described element. This led us to suggest this new transposon family, that we called hosimary. The other family analyzed in this work includes the hobo and hoboVA (or hoboVAHS) elements. These elements may be involved in a hypermutability phenomenon observed by our research group. Sense and antisense transcripts were detected by transcriptional expression analysis, which suggests an RNA interference mechanism (iRNA) controlling the activity of these elements. in situ hybridization of whole mount embryo analysis showed similarity of the hobo and hoboVAHS expression pattern with patterns observed in developmental genes. This led us to suggest the existence of cis-regulatory sequences into the elements that can be interacting with the host genes. The presence of these cis-regulatory sequences in TEs can be related to evolutionary issues since they can be responsible for genetic variability.

Top-hat stiffened plates provide an effcient structure for engineering applications. During service debonding between the stiffener and the plate is a common failure mechanism. Therefore, an extensive understanding of the residual strength is required to rapidly and effciently determine precautions to be taken to ensure the safety of the structure. Critical assessment of necessary repairs reduces the through life costs and in design damage assessment can lead to optimisation through tolerance of common damage incidents. Research on damaged stiffened structures to date is primarily focused on airframe applications and considers open sections with co-cured stiffeners which are not typical of marine structures. These studies have shown that debond size and location have a significant effect on the damage mode of the panel. However, they do not consider the interaction of failure modes or ultimate failure. Typical marine composite joints are manufactured by post-curing sub-components using a chopped strand mat layer at the interface. To predict failure of these joints requires accurate assessment of the material and fracture properties and a consistent set of data which is lacking in the literature. Therefore, the research in this thesis considers the damage tolerance of top-hat stiened panels containing a debond between the stiffener and plate through numerical and experimental work. The focus of the work is post-cured top-hat multi-stiffened panels used in large marine applications manufactured from heavy weight glass vinylester woven roving. An automated tool using non-linear finite element analysis capable of modelling debond damage and assessing the ultimate and the residual strength of the panel is verified. A parametric study investigating panel topology, damage parameters and stiener type show the complexities of the damage case. Results show that top-hat stiffened panels exhibit a trend between ultimate strength and the debond size with crack initiation not necessarily propagating as geometric imperfections accelerate buckling but can provide an arrest point for crack propagation. Nominal lateral pressures are shown to significantly increase the damage tolerance. Full characterisation of typical materials is conducted experimentally providing a complete data set of mechanical characterisation and fracture data for both co-cured interfaces, typical of mid-laminate debonds and sub-component joints. Tensile, compressive, shear and exural tests are conducted and a model for the non-linearity of the woven roving in tension and shear is proposed. The fracture results show the post-cured joint exhibits a 20% increase in mode I and II strain energy release rates. The experimental data is used in a number of studies to further verify and optimise the finite element model. Mode I and II tests are simulated to ascertain the cohesive element interface strengths and Turon's interface parameters. The material data is shown to give accurate results for the structural response, crack initation and debonding of an as built large scale top-hat stiffened panel which is tested experimentally under four point bend. Therefore, the effect of skin-stiffener debonding has been investigated for top-hat stffiened panels, providing improved characterisation of the material and interfaces and guidance on the damage tolerance to damage and design parameters.

<p>Syftet med den här uppsatsen har varit att undersöka vilka faktorer det är som styr ett avhopp från en nazistisk organisation. För att få en helhetsförståelse har dessa faktorer undersökts på individ-, grupp- och samhällsnivå. Empirin består, förutom litteraturstuder, av halvstrukturerade intervjuer med en intervjuguide som vägledande verktyg. Att studera avhoppet som fenomen är både känsligt och komplext varför det krävts flera teoretiska perspektiv, vilka dessutom diskuterats på olika nivåer. Resultatet har visat att det är de trasiga, svikna och vilsna ungdomarna som söker sig till nazistiska grupperingar, och att det är trygghet och bekräftelse de söker i dessa grupper. Undersökningen har även visat på gruppens betydelse, som en viktig faktor, för de ungdomar som tvekar att våga ta steget att lämna gruppen. Behovet av en trygghetskänsla har varit ett av studiens centrala resultat. Det här behovet har styrt både intåget i den nazistiska sfären, menäven processerna kring avhoppet. Vidare har det framkommit att samhällets insatser för dessa ungdomar är mycket bristfälliga och att det behövs betydligt mera resurser.</p>

The present paper is part of a project carried on by the Swedish Section of the International Commission of Jurists. Sweden has ratified several major international human rights instruments. Most of the rights are covered by national law, and only in exception is there a discrepancy between national and international law. Such a discrepancy is found in the UN Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Racial Discrimination, in which the State parties agree on penalizing and prohibiting the founding of and participation in racist organizations. Sweden is not complying with this statute, despite the fact that the government has ratified the convention. The Swedish government states that national laws prohibit the activities of these organizations, and therefore it is not necessary to reform the legislation. The National Council for Crime Prevention (Brottsförebyggande rådet) presents an annual report on hate crime in Sweden. Between the years 2005 and 2009 the number of reported hate crimes almost doubled. To some point the increase can be explained by a widened definition of hate crime, but the reports have increased in real terms as well. The Swedish government is combating human rights violations, and the long term objective is to ensure full respect for human rights. Critique raised against Sweden in international reviewing institutions indicates that Sweden has some ground to cover before reaching such an objective. Most of the presented critique concerns the non-existing ban of racist organizations, increased reports of hate crime as well as racist influences within Swedish politics and society as such. Prohibiting racist organizations constitutes limitations in the freedom of expression and the freedom of association. Ever since Sweden incorporated the European convention for the Protection of Human Rights, freedom of expression has been given a unique position within the national legal system. This position is strengthened even further through different judgments in the Swedish Supreme Court, in cases on agitation. The questions raised in this paper are consequently: Is it possible to ensure full respect for human rights, or can you only come near such an ensuring? Does Sweden live up to its international obligations? How does the Swedish government weigh the different rights against each other? Should the rights be differently balanced? Departing from narratives of young people, the aim of this thesis is to deepen the knowledge about the meaning of their social interactions in social media. In this qualitative study, young people’s interactions when they use social media are studied in a Swedish context. The study constitutes an important contribution since it makes young people’s voices heard. It is based on semi-structured interviews with 32 young people aged 13-15. The results show that young people do not use the term bullying when they define a situation that is of a negative nature. They use other terms such as hate and drama to define a situation they perceive to be negative, both in situations when they themselves are involved and in situations when they are among the audience. It depends on how they define the situation. Explanations for why drama, hate and negative actions occur can be understood based on on-going relation-building work and an effort to fit into a certain peer culture. The results also indicate that it is important to receive attention from significant others. In interaction with others, social skills are developed to navigate drama, hate, friendship, negative actions and relation-building efforts in social media. Social norms, gender norms and negotiating identities come to expression when the young people discuss self-presentations in pictures. Explanations as to why they choose to publish a certain kind of picture can be linked with complex relationship and identity construction processes where the young peoples position themselves and others in the struggle to doing gender and a desire to participate in a certain peer culture.

In this study, pupils’ use of tablet computers is compared with the use of dictionaries. The goal is to find out if tablet computers or dictionaries are better, when helping pupils to understand a text. The purpose is also to investigate if one or the other has more effect on the pupils’ memory when they, in writing, are asked to retell the text one week later. Furthermore, this study investigates how the teacher can influence their motivation to learn. The pupils who took part in the study are learning German in the ninth grade in two different Swedish schools. Two different tests were conducted. In the first one, the pupils were divided into two groups and in the second one, only those who used tablet computers participated. The first test shows that the results did not differ much between the groups. The other test, on the other hand, shows that the teacher can influence the motivation of the pupils and so the results. The conclusion of this study is that neither tablet computers nor dictionaries had more effect on the pupils’ memory. However what did have an effect, regarding to motivate the pupils’ learning, is how the task was presented by the teacher. This study also shows that the pupils need to be taught how to use digital educational materials in order to learn the best way.

V teoretickej časti sú popísané slabiny a zraniteľnosti, základné bezpečnostné mechanizmy v Linuxe, so zameraním na technológiu SELinux. Technológia SELinux je súčasťou operačných systémov Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Fedora a CentOS. Na základe analyzovaných zraniteľností bola v praktickej časti navrhnutá konfigurácia technológie SELinux. V návrhu sú popísané prvky, ktoré sa budú konfigurovať a tými sú SELinuxové booleany, SELinuxové moduly a SELinuxoví užívatelia, so zameraním na ochranu pamäte, eskalovanie privilégií, spúšťaniu kódu, úniku dat a obmedzenie procesov a užívateľov. Na základe návrhov bola vytvorená konfigurácia v konfiguračnom nástroji Ansible, ktorej cieľom je umožniť užívateľovi jednoducho a rýchlo nakonfigurovať hosťa. Okrem nej boli vytvorene ďalšie dve konfigurácie, ktoré umožnia vrátiť systém do predchádzajúceho stavu alebo uzamknúť SELinuxovú konfiguráciu. Následne sa overoval dopad konfigurácií na použiteľnosť systému a nájdené chyby boli opravené alebo nahlásené. Posledná časť overuje funkčnosť konfigurácie pred zneužitím zraniteľností.

The use of composite materials brought a tremendous breakthrough in the scientific world of aerospace engineering. The lack of understanding of the failure of composite materials can be disastrous. Composite laminated structures need to be thoroughly studied and investigated in the design stage. In this thesis, formed-hat skin stringer made of composite laminates is investigated. Delamination is the most common failure of laminated composites, which has two stages delamination onset and delamination propagation. In the preliminary design phase, firstly the structures need to be investigated for low-velocity impact to check the formation of damage onset due to the impact that may arise during manufacturing. In the detailed design phase, the structure is investigated to study the evolution of delamination growth under loading conditions. The structure is modeled using 3 D elements because of the presence of Interlaminar stresses in the width and thickness direction and anisotropic nature. In this thesis, more emphasis is given on the interface between the skin and the stringer. The debonding effect of the interface is studied using cohesive zone model(CZM).

Tip60 is a 60 kDa nuclear protein which exists in three isoforms, belongs to the MYST/HAT family of proteins and was discovered after its interaction with the Human HIV-1 Tat. As a nuclear protein, Tip60 can act as a coactivator or repressor. To understand the HAT action of Tip60, two possible catalytic models exist; the ping-pong and the ternary complex formation models. In correlation with the exploration of HAT catalytic action, mutations of a Cys to Ala and a Glu to Gln on Esa1 (yeast homolog of Tip60 and MYST/HAT prototype), was reported to show wild type-like and decreased acetylating properties, respectively. In this work, Tip60 HAT action was explored. In Tip60, the Cys in the active site is important for acetylation of the H4(1-20) substrate and the Glu showed semi loss in acetylating the H4(1-20) peptide substrate. These data highlight a unique mechanism of Tip60 catalysis.
