Abstract:
Pierre Bourdieu’s concept of habitus has been largely absent in Science and Technology Studies (STS) despite its potential usefulness. In this essay, I develop the concept of scientific habitus as a useful way to think about scientific practices. I argue that scientific habitus may offer three contributions that illuminate scientists’ own micro-practices in relation to meso- and macro-level dynamics in the scientific field. First, the concept enables us to think of scientists’ worldviews and bodily techniques as objects of STS analysis. While the majority of STS scholars have focused on the construction of knowledge, scientific habitus allows us to study the construction of the scientists’ body and mind. Secondly, scientific habitus links individual practices with institutional contexts; it highlights how the micro-practices of individuals in scientific laboratories reflect and reproduce macro-social structural power dynamics. Third, scientific habitus reveals mechanisms of stratification within the scientific field. It helps unpack scientists’ practical decisions surrounding research topics, ideas, and data. It also helps explain why and how certain scientific projects are preferred and others left undone. Scientific habitus, therefore, has the potential to contribute to a more encompassing explanation of the relationship between societal structures and the internal logic of the scientific field.

Abstract:
The development of science at all stages of its penetration into a technogenic society is accompanied by changes in methodological consciousness in its various incarnations. However, preferring to analyze the metamorphoses of science as special knowledge about the world, to examine the evolution of its methodological tools, forms of structural and functional organization of scientific and cognitive activity, at the same time, modern research practices leave aside the evolution of methodological consciousness as such. Although, according to the author, analysis of this phenomenon makes possible to define, if not a paradigmatic, then at least a syntagmatic approach to the study of modern post-academic science. The representation of methodological consciousness can be carried out in different versions. The article considers its evolution at various levels of functioning – individual and supra-individual, embodied in the methodological innovations of science itself as well as in the philosophical and methodological discourse interconnected with it. The assertion of unique forms of methodological consciousness at the supraindividual level, in particular, characterizes the development of modern social physics, which combines syntagmatics, inter- and transdisciplinarity as strategies of scientific search. The evolution of methodological consciousness at the individual level is inextricably linked with the renewal of the scientific habitus of individual scientists. In the context of the commercialization of post-academic science, destructive changes in the qualities of scientific creativity and scientific ethos undoubtedly affect the mental and cognitive components of the scientific habits of researchers. For the majority of the scientific community, the transformation of the scientific habitus proceeds spontaneously. Awareness of the uniqueness of post-academic science today occurs mainly within the framework of philosophical and methodological discourse. The result of this process is problematized by the author as a phenomenon of “post-academic philosophy of science,” characterized by a number of features of a substantive, methodological, and institutional nature. The question of its correlation with the traditional philosophy of science, on the one hand, and with disciplinary strategies in the study of science, on the other, opens up prospects for the emergence of new paradigms of modern philosophical and methodological discourse.

Abstract:
A scientific understanding of the baseflow contribution to streams and watershed processes is critical when dealing with water policy and management issues. However, most previous studies involving physical habitat simulation have been performed without considering the seepage of water from the underground into streams. Motivated by this, herein, we report an investigation of the impact of baseflow using physical habitat simulations for both dominant fish and benthic macroinvertebrate. The study area was located along the reach of the Ungcheon Stream, located 16.50 km downstream and 11.75 km upstream from the Boryeong Dam in the Republic of Korea. For the physical habitat simulation, Zacco platypus and Baetis fuscatus were selected as the target fish and benthic macroinvertebrate, respectively. The HydroGeoSphere (HGS) model (Aquanty Inc., Waterloo, ON, Canada) and the River2D model (Version 0.95a, University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB, Canada) were used for hydrologic and hydraulic simulations, respectively. The Habitat Suitability Index (HSI) model was used for the habitat simulations. Three habitat variables, flow depth, velocity, and substrate, were used. To assess the impact of baseflow, this study performed a physical habitat simulation using each representative discharge, with and without considering baseflow. It was found that the baseflow effects significantly increase the habitat suitability in the study reach. To restore the aquatic habitat, a scenario for modifying dam operations through natural flow patterns is presented using the Building Block Approach (BBA). In the study, the adjusted minimum flow allocation concept was used. It was revealed that the modified dam operations significantly increased the Weighted Usable Area (WUA) by about 48% for both target species. The results indicate that modifying the dam operations through restoration to natural flow regimes but also through inclusion of the baseflow are advantageous to aquatic fish habitats.

Abstract:
Biogenic habitats often form hot spots of biodiversity. However, the role of epibiosis and the ‘habitat cascades’ phenomenon in enhancing structural heterogeneity and biodiversity in biogenic habitats in remote and difficult-to-access areas is little known. In this work, we provide the first insight by exploring epibiosis across remote habitats that often support high levels of biodiversity, i.e., cold-water coral reefs and marine caves. The present study acts as a stepping-stone for the further exploration of ‘habitat cascades’ in habitats where scientific knowledge about this phenomenon is limited.

Abstract:
The Holy Quran encourages the functioning brain to reach the truth and understand this universe by using mental habits: “For the worst of beasts in the sight of Allah are the deaf and the dumb, - those who do not understand” (22:8). In contrast, science emphasizes the importance of mind habits in learning and applying it peacefully to humanity. However, recent studies have not investigated the distribution of Holy Quran verses in developing scientific habits of mind. This research aimed to assess the effect of pondering over the Holy Quran verses on the students’ scientific habits of mind. The study participants consist of 94 science students in grade 9 in from two schools in Oman. This study highlights the importance of subjects’ integration and enhances meaningful learning. This semi-experimental research adopted Solomon four groups and applied well-developed two tools, namely, habits of mind scale and semi-instructed interview. The results showed there is significant difference in the post-test mean scores of scientific habits of mind between non-pretested groups compared to the experimental group. The combination between science subject and Holy Quran verses related to science enhances students’ scientific habits of mind. Thus, activating verses in science classes should be encouraged in science curricula.

Abstract:
Purpose This paper examines a neglected stream of literature in marketing theory which engaged with the idea that there was more to consumer behavior than conscious and rational thought. Design/methodology/approach This is a close reading of the core themes that appear in William A. Shryer’s work. Linkages are made to other pertinent sources. Findings We extend McMahon’s (1972) study and offer a different reading of Shryer’s writing to that proffered in recent commentary by Tadajewski (2019), focusing on the managerial side of Shryer’s publications, connecting this to the theoretically innovative foundations based on normal and abnormal psychology. We respond to the suggestion proposed by McMahon (1972) that Shryer was an early pioneer of motivation research, largely in the affirmative. Originality/value We provide an alternative interpretation of Shryer’s writing, connecting this to an emergent “advertising science” and subsequently to contemporary strands of literature that have a “family resemblance” to his contributions. These include salient aspects of motivation research; crowd and habitual behavior; mindlessness and social cognition; and finally, empirical examinations of cumulative value theory.

Abstract:
Based on a fish survey and preliminary underwater observations, 17 "morphotypes" were identified that characterize the morphological diversity found within 27 nektonic fish species sampled at São Sebastião Channel. Such "morphotypes" were studied using an ecomorphological approach, with the intention to investigate similarities and differences in shape and habits. Underwater field observations were also performed, to verify if the lifestyle of these species, such as vertical occupation of the water column and the habitat use, are in accordance with their distribution in the morphospace. The results, complemented with data from scientific literature on the taxonomy and phylogenies of these species, allowed discussing some of the typical cases of convergent and divergent evolution. Some of the ecomorphological clusters had no phylogenetic support although this is probably due to the environmental conditions in which theirs members have evolved. The body shape and fins positions of a fish clearly influence its ecological performance and habitat use, corroborating the ecomorphological hypothesis on the intimate link between phenotype and ecology.

Abstract:
Many studies invoke the concept of the Bourdieusian habitus to account for a plethora of stratified patterns uncovered by conventional social-scientific methods. However, as a stratum-specific, embodied and largely non-declarative set of dispositions, the role of the habitus in those stratified patterns is typically not adequately scrutinised empirically. Instead, the habitus is often attributed theoretically to an empirically established link between stratification indicators and an outcome of interest. In this research note, we argue that combining conventional methods in stratification research with latency-based measures such as the Implicit Association Test enables better measurement of the habitus. This sociological application of Implicit Association Tests enables researchers to: (1) identify empirically the existence of different habitus among different social strata; and (2) determine their role in the stratified patterns to which they have thus far been attributed theoretically.

Abstract:
Introduction. The family forms the habitus of the child's health-preserving behavior: the presence or absence of bad habits, involvement in sports, food preferences, and the attitude to disease prevention. The article, based on the conducted research, identifies the dependence of various parameters of the health of school-age children on the socio-biological well-being of the family, its lifestyle, life support conditions that contribute to the implementation of family health-preserving practices. Materials and Methods. The research materials used were the data from a survey conducted in 2019 by the Center for Family and Demography Center of Tatarstan Academy of Sciences among parents of students of lyceums, grammar schools, and general education schools, including those with in-depth study of specific subjects (city of Kazan, Arsk and Chistopol municipal districts of the Republic of Tatarstan). The total population of parents of students was 433,706 people, the selection was 325 people. The value, social activity, and generation approaches within the sociological discourse on health issues are aimed at identifying the social determinants of various parameters of adolescent health and their health preservation habitus. Results. The study has identified a number of factors that determine the lifestyle of modern schoolchildren and have a negative impact on their health in the context of significant academic loads, intensification of the educational process, and involvement in intense extra-curricular activities: non-compliance with age regulations of the daily routine; low motor activity; unsatisfactory organization and deterioration of the quality of nutrition in the family; habitus of parents’ behavior, not focused on health preservation. Discussion and Conclusion. The conducted research provides scientific substantiation of and emphasizes the need for measures aimed at increasing physical activity and healthy nutrition of both younger and older schoolchildren in the context of the demographic crisis. Practical application of the conclusions drawn in this study involves formulation of proposals for improving the effectiveness of managerial decisions taken by ministries and departments of the Republic of Tatarstan.

Abstract:
The concept of habitus has been used to investigate a wide range of social phenomena. Pierre Bourdieu himself applied it to different fields, such as the analysis of taste and lifestyle (Bourdieu, 2000), gender relations (Bourdieu, 2001), the field of literature production (Bourdieu, 1996), the educational system and the reproduction of inequalities (Bourdieu, & Passeron, 1979), to mention a few. However, the concept of habitus has only recently been applied to investigate migration phenomena. This systematic literature review aims to investigate the use of the concept of habitus in migration theory through the analysis of 38 studies selected in two scientific databases. In the first part, after the presentation of the concept of habitus and the description of methodological selection procedure, I will make a short overview of the use of the aforementioned concept applied to migration phenomena, using the following criteria: the year of publication, national contexts, categories of migrants. Then, I will proceed to the analysis following the meta-ethnography methodology.

Abstract:
Most of sciences can be traced back to Aristotle. This is because in opposition to Plato he was able to find a way in which one could give a scientific form to reflection concerning contingent facts of every-day life. Knowledge of the contingent was made possible thanks to the Aristotelian concepts of category and state (habitus). It is the latter concept that was especially important for forming knowledge about change. Aristotle and his medieval followers apply it in analyses of various processes, from local motion to changes in temperaments, to formation of virtues.

Abstract:
A surge of spatial imagery is sweeping across wide stretches of the academy. Spheres of scholarly endeavour hitherto seemingly immune to matters of space and place have been exploiting the geographical lexicon and appending to it ever more imaginative adjectives. Thus literary critics, cultural historians, psychologists, poets and many others have been uncovering geographies that are variously depicted as ‘tender’, ‘neural’, ‘fabulous’, ‘romantic’ and ‘distracted’. Geographers too have added to this adjectival efflorescence with their staging of ‘hybrid’, ‘malevolent’, ‘phobic’ and ‘sensuous’ geographies – to name but a very few. The analytic power of geographical readings has thus been felt across a broad terrain. Thomas Kaufmann, for instance, has recently developed a ‘historical geography of art’ – or what he calls a ‘geohistory of art’ – in which he mobilizes geographical motifs to explore artistic identity, diffusion, circulation and transculturation. Steven Harris, Peter Burke and many others now routinely speak of the ‘geography of knowledge’. And in her recent account of nineteenth-century American expansionism along the western frontier, Amy DeRogatis has found inspiration in the idea of ‘moral geography’ to throw light on the means by which New England ways of life were transferred to the Western Reserve.

Ours is a fraught time. We see blaring headlines about stolen elections, the questioning of scientific findings and of the scientific method itself, of mutual incomprehension across political and cultural divides, of accepted norms upended, of governing processes questioned, and of facts themselves—facts comporting with reality—doubted. The swirling cacophony of competing viewpoints, perspectives, agendas, and “facts,” accelerated by a saturating and saturated media environment, challenges anyone seeking a firm ground for reasoned debate, reflection, and discussion—and anyone commited to teaching and scholarship. As a profession with ancient and honorable roots, including exposing uncomfortable truths, teaching requires a ground of reliable factuality, a foundation for debate, discussion, and improvement, no matter the level of education, the subject, or the method of instruction.

Social historical study, whose goals are: to characterize the practice areas of nurses from the National Cancer Institute, where there was a need to incorporate new knowledge in oncology and discuss the symbolic gains for nurses. The primary sources were oral and written documents, analyzed according to Pierre Bourdieu's concepts of habitus and scientific capital. It was evident that, in the 1980s, the position of the Institute in the field of cancer care in Brazil, made the nurses acquire new knowledge in the areas of cancer surgery, clinical oncology and bone marrow transplantation. The nursing competences and procedures were reorganized and new patient care routines were structured. It is concluded that the strategies to occupy this space were developed through the sharing of scientific knowledge, with visibility of the scientific capital in the field of oncology and highly specialized care, getting national recognition.

Abstract:
The psychological security of a person is an indicator of a person who is psychologically healthy and able to cope with social, pandemic, informational, psychological, and other threats. The sudden spread of a new type of coronavirus infection, COVID-19, since December 2019 has significantly destabilized society. This study aims to investigate and analyze individual psychological security as a scientific research subject in the post-isolation period. To fulfill that aim, a range of scientifical methods are employed, including analysis and synthesis of scientific content on the issues under study, sociometry method, summary, and grouping of statistical observation materials. Given the results, it can be concluded that the swift spreading of mass hysteria and panic resulting from COVID-19 has been characterized by constant psychological issues in public, consisting of a decline in the level of psychological safety. That factor seems to be associated with the coping strategies adopted, the level of conscious awareness, socio-demographic variables, people’s habits, and how an individual utilizes media and interprets information.

Abstract:
While scientific challenges raise relevant debates about the ethics of science, the scientific ethos, shattered by post-Mertonian studies, has received neither due attention nor further conceptualizations in view of the transition to knowledge society. On the contrary, in our investigation of Italian women scientists, it appears to have survived as a reference for scientists, even if the context has changed. Indeed, the ethos of scientists is no longer conceivable as exclusive, but is instead seen as open and dynamic in interaction with other symbolic references. Therefore, instead of scientific ethos, it is preferable to speak of scientific habit, including the individual symbolic universe and the social practices linked to the scientific role. In so doing, other habits come into focus and interact. In particular, we investigated the interaction between the scientific habit and the gender habit. We argue for a conflict between two such habits and for the existence of a symbolic violence suffered by women scientists. Lastly, a new dimension of the scientific ethos is defined which is not included in the Mertonian definition: a scientific responsibility among scientists in society. Such a picture could shape a new perspective of re-gendering science in society from the standpoint of women’s experience as scientists in the knowledge society.

Abstract:
Aim. The presented study aims to propose and substantiate new research directions with allowance for the impact of COVID-19 on consumer habits.Tasks. The authors investigate the problem of the pandemic’s impact on common consumer behavior stereotypes; identify major trends in changing consumer habits; propose new directions for research on the transformation of consumer habits in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.Methods. This study is based on specialized scientific publications accessible via the Scopus and WoS databases and uses complementary methods of analysis, synthesis, comparison, generalization, etc.Results. Isolation and social distancing measures taken during the COVID-19 pandemic have changed consumer habits. Consumers are learning to improvise based on their existing habits and are developing new habits associated with the digitalization of sales, changing demographics, and innovative ways that allow them to solve the problems of blurring boundaries between work, leisure, and education. The authors propose several new research questions for the next decade.Conclusions. Isolation and social distancing in the fight against the COVID-19 virus have significantly changed consumer behavior, limiting consumption by time and location. Due to the flexibility of time and the fixed nature of location, consumers have learned to improvise creatively and innovatively. The use of digital technologies can fundamentally and irrevocably change many existing habits. Government policy also forms new consumption habits, especially in public areas: airports, concert halls, public parks, etc. The most important objective is to investigate ongoing processes and to implement the obtained scientific results in the activities of government authorities, educational institutions, and marketing activities of Russian companies.

Abstract:
The relevance of the research topic lies in the daily practical component of the stated problem. The topic of habits, particularly in student life, is important, because this component affects the professional development of a future specialist. Currently, time management is one of the promising areas of scientific research in recent years. Multi-functionality in the modern world has become a basic requirement for an employee with the massive emergence of information technologies in the era of digitalization. Since the work efficiency of any employee depends on previously acquired skills, it makes sense to investigate the peculiarities of becoming a specialist during the student period. In particular, this concerns the issue of habit formation. The research presents the results of the author’s questionnaire. In particular, a chart of respondents’ answers regarding their age, type of activity, gender, etc. general personality parameters. Based on the respondents’ answers, it was determined whether, in their opinion, habits are an important part of life. Reflections on whether habits can significantly improve or worsen life, and whether they are capable of forming a person’s character, are highlighted. Particular attention is focused on whether habits can be an important factor in student life, as well as on what type of habits prevail in their lives. Currently, a certain number of students do not fully understand the importance of habits with all their consequences. Therefore, it is important to investigate how these habits can affect life and in what way. The results and consequences of the student’s habits have meaning, depending on their beneficial or negative impact. Much depends on the ability to acquire and get rid of various habits. That is why the outline of the problems of the importance of habits in student life and the definition of the accepted connotation for the people of the XXI century. is an actual scientific direction. The article focuses on the definition of types of habits and their impact on a student’s life. The methods of acquiring, losing and consolidating habits in student life have been studied. The main categories on the path to successful habit formation are highlighted, including purpose, simplicity, attractiveness, visibility and satisfaction, and the need to monitor the progress of habits.

Abstract:
My primary concern in this article is the connection between virtue epistemology and evidentialism. This possible connection is analyzed upon, firstly, the example of the intellectual virtue of wisdom, and, secondly, the historical case – Thomas Aquinas’ approach to virtue of wisdom as an intellectual disposition (habitus). I argue that it is possible to offer such an interpretation of ‘intellectual virtue’ that aligns with the peripatetic tradition broadly understood (to which the epistemology of virtues ascends), and on the basis of which an evidentialist theory of justification is offered. In the first part of the paper, I briefly present the main interpretations of virtue epistemology and evidentialism in the light of externalism/internalism debate. In the second part I discuss Aquinas’ understanding of intellectual virtue as a disposition (habitus). The main concern here are virtues of theoretical habitus – wisdom and (scientific) knowledge. I show that habitus in this case is understood in two ways: as an ability, inherent to human beings, and as objective knowledge. Thus, there are two understandings of wisdom – as a virtue and knowledge (scientia). Finally, in the concluding parts of the paper, I outline possible ways of solving presented in the first part challenges to evidentialism and internalism.

Abstract:
The landscape of youth religious participation is an underengaged area across both the humanities and social science. While the humanities lack empirical data on the changing religious life worlds of youths, existing empirical work in the social sciences suggests that institutional religion buffers criminality and delinquency—a brand of engagement the authors refer to as “buffering transgression.” This is a process that both conceives and privileges religion as an institutional and a moral force responsible for creating prosocial behavior. While empirical studies on youths and religion keep religion arrested to institutional and moral functions, scholars in the humanities work hard to legitimate youth cultural forms, such as hip hop, by conflating its rugged dimensions with a quest (and hope) for democratic sensibilities—a motif the authors suggest is rooted in ideologies of teleological progress. Using the tropes progress, peril, and change, this article explores the utility (and limitations) of empirical work and the often misguided efforts to moralize religion. Here the authors raise queries regarding youth cultural change and religion and quantitatively model youth religious change over 16 years. The implications of these theoretical and empirical interventions point toward future work at the social scientific intersections of religion in culture.

Interdisciplinary collaboration is a sensible approach for addressing complex problems. However, academic training and the resulting disciplinary habitus (and competition) often leave such collaborative skills woefully underdeveloped. This contribution outlines how ethnographic sensibilities and skills may contribute to overcoming borders between disciplinary practitioners and enhancing self-awareness within and across scientific and scholarly practice. It thus proposes ethnographic attention as interdisciplinary midwifery.

Abstract:
Scientific works are essays containing scientific ideas that are presented scientifically and use scientific forms and language. Scientific writing brings up scientific problems that are focused on one particular discipline. This article aims to describe the implementation of scientific paper writing training for students in MAN 2 Model Banjarmasin. So that led to the scientific attitude of the writing team. The lecture and assignment methods were carried out during the training from 24 February to 09 March 2020. The results of the service were presented that writing scientific papers, writers must understand the stages of work; first, make ideas in thought. Abstract:
The evolution of media has offered people easier access to information, which in turn has generated a need for creating flexible content and providing a platform for expressing opinions. This trend especially impacts the food and beverage sector, which feels a constant pressure to meet the requirements of their influence groups and especially of consumers, who want to be informed about so-called healthy habits and dietary recommendations. This particular investigation focuses on evaluating the scientific precision that was applied in the publications of the digital newspapers El Mundo and El País during the months of February and March of 2019 in relation with the food and beverage sector and to what extent the number of these publications is an indication of the importance that is being attached to a scientific seal of approval. This scientific approval, in any case, should be demanded in any publication which is related to the health and certain consumer habits of readers.
