Abstract:
Innate immune response is the first line of host defense against pathogenic microorganisms, and its excessive or insufficient activation is detrimental to the organism. Many individual microRNAs (miRNAs) have emerged as crucial post-transcriptional regulators of immune homeostasis in Drosophila melanogaster. However, the synergistical regulation of miRNAs located within a cluster on the Imd-immune pathway remains obscured. In our study, a genetic screening with 52 transgenic UAS-miRNAs was performed to identify ten miRNAs or miRNA clusters, including the miR310~313 cluster, which may function on Imd-dependent immune responses. The miRNA RT-qPCR analysis showed that the expression of miR-310~313 cluster members exhibited an increase at 6–12 h post E. Coli infection. Furthermore, the overexpression of the miR-310~313 cluster impaired the Drosophila survival. And the overexpression of miR-310/311/312 reduced Dpt expression, an indication of Imd pathway induced by Gram-negative bacteria. Conversely, the knockdown of miR-310/311/312 led to increases in Dpt expression. The Luciferase reporter expression assays and RT-qPCR analysis confirmed that miR-310~313 cluster members directly co-targeted and inhibited Imd transcription. These findings reveal that the members of the miR-310~313 cluster synergistically inhibit Imd-dependent immune responses by co-targeting the Imd gene in Drosophila.

Abstract:
Hydrogen-bond (H-bond) energies in 310-helices of short alanine peptides were systematically examined by precise DFT calculations with the negative fragmentation approach (NFA), a modified method based on the molecular tailoring approach. The contribution of each H-bond was evaluated in detail from the 310-helical conformation of total energies (whole helical model, WH3-10 model), and the results were compared with the property of H-bond in α-helix from our previous study. The H-bond energies of the WH3-10 model exhibited tendencies different from those exhibited by the α-helix in that they depended on the helical position of the relevant H-bond pair. H-bond pairs adjacent to the terminal H-bond pairs were observed to be strongly destabilized. The analysis of electronic structures indicated that structural characteristics cause the destabilization of the H-bond in 310-helices. We also found that the longer the helix length, the more stable the H-bond in the terminal pairs of the WH3-10 model, suggesting the action of H-bond cooperativity.

Abstract:
The paper’s aim is the assessment of corrosion behaviour of a CrNx-coated 310 H stainless steel under simulated supercritical water conditions (550 °C and 25 MPa) for up to 2160 h. The CrNx coating was obtained by the thermionic vacuum arc (TVA) method. The oxides grown on this coating were characterized using metallographic and gravimetric analysis, SEM with EDS, and grazing incidence X-ray diffraction (GIXRD). A diffusion mechanism drives oxidation kinetics because it follows a parabolic law. By XRD analysis, the presence of Cr2O3 and Fe3O4 on the surface of the autoclaved CrNx-coated 310 H samples were highlighted. Corrosion susceptibility assessment was performed by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and linear potentiodynamic polarization. EIS impedance spectra show the presence of two capacitive semicircles in the Nyquist diagram, highlighting both the presence of the CrNx coating and the oxide film formed during autoclaving on the 310 H stainless steel. Very low corrosion rates, with values up to 11 nm × year−1, obtained in the case of autoclaved for 2160 h, CrNx-coated samples indicated that the oxides formed on these samples are protective and provide better corrosion resistance. The determination of micro hardness Vickers completed the above investigation.

Abstract:
The aim of this work was to study the corrosion behavior of a Fe-Cr-Ni alloy (310 H stainless steel) in water at a supercritical temperature of 550 °C and a pressure of 250 atm for up to 2160 h. At supercritical temperature, water is a highly aggressive environment, and the corrosion of structural materials used in a supercritical water-cooled nuclear reactor (SCWR) is a critical problem. Selecting proper candidate materials is one key issue for the development of SCWRs. After exposure to deaerated supercritical water, the oxides formed on the 310 H SS surface were characterized using a gravimetric analysis, a metallographic analysis, and electrochemical methods. Gravimetric analysis showed that, due to oxidation, all the tested samples gained weight, and oxidation of 310H stainless steel at 550 °C follows parabolic rate, indicating that it is driven by a diffusion process. The data obtained by microscopic metallography concord with those obtained by gravimetric analysis and show that the oxides layer has a growing tendency in time. At the same time, the results obtained by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements indicate the best corrosion resistance of Cr, and (Fe, Mn) Cr2O4 oxides developed on the samples surface after 2160 h of oxidation. Based on the results obtained, a strong correlation between gravimetric analysis, metallographic analysis, and electrochemical methods was found.

Abstract:
SUS 310 stainless steels were corroded at 600, 700 and 800°C for up to 30 h in 1 atm of N2/H2O/H2S-mixed gas. The formed scales consisted primarily of (Fe0.5Ni0.5)0.96S, FeNiS2, and FeCr2S4. They were fragile, porous, and susceptible to spallation. During corrosion, Fe, Ni, and Mn diffused outward, while sulfur and a lesser amount of oxygen diffused inward. The diffusion of Cr and Si was not conspicuous. The formation of sulfide scales and the presence of hydrogen and water vapor in the mixed gases made SUS 310 corrode fast.

Abstract:
In the work orientation distribution functions (ODF) were determined for wires drawn in pressure and roller dies from a high carbon steel wire rod with a diameter 5.5 mm to wires with a diameter 3.8 mm and 3.0 mm. For a comparison ODFs for wires drawn conventionally were also determined. The texture was measured on the cross sections of investigated wires prepared in a form of squares to eliminate the effect of the surface layer. In the first stage of a drawing with a total reduction of 54.3% it has been found that in wires drawn conventionally (KI), in pressure dies (HI) and in roller dies (RI) a strong <110> fibre-texture exist with a value of the ODF equal to about 3.2 for all tested wires. At an increase of the total reduction from 54.3% to 71.5% values of ODF were different for different methods of drawing. For wires with a diameter 3.0 mm drawn conventionally (KF) it was equal 4.25 and for wires drawn in pressure dies (HF) the ODF value was the highest and equal to 4.4. For wires drawn in roller dies the ODF value was the lowest and equal only to 2.6. It means that in spite of the increase of the total reduction roller die drawing results in a decrease of the sharpness of the fibre texture <110>. In conventional drawing and in pressure dies drawing an increase of the <110> texture has been noticed with the increase of the total reduction. In addition to a strong <110> texture component, specimens K and H also featured weak <311> and <310> components. In R specimens there were more of such additional components after the first stage of drawing i.e. <311>, <310>, <210>, <211> and after the second stage of drawing (total area reduction 71.5%) - <311>, <310>.

Abstract:
The structure of [001] tilt boundaries in YBa2Cu3O7–x (YBCO) thin films deposited on [001] tilt SrTiO3 (STO) bicrystal substrates has been characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). These boundaries are (100)/(210), (310)/(510), (410)/(310), (510)/(210), (210)/(410), and (210)/(310), with corresponding misorientation angles of 26°, 29°, 32°, 37°, 40°, and 44°. It was found that the YBCO film boundaries were meandering along the relatively straight substrate boundaries. High-resolution lattice images indicated that the microscopic meandering of the film boundary essentially consisted of many straight segments of facets at the atomic scale. On the basis of the observed facets, three competing factors controlling the formation of facets are discussed. First, the boundary plane is defined by Miller indices (hk0) in both crystals with sufficiently small h, k (i.e., h, k ≤ 5) and sufficiently large effective interplanar spacing (i.e., deff > 0.06 nm). Second, the closure failure defined by the difference between the local misorientation from the design misorientation is small, i.e., less than 2°. Third, the deviation of a local facet plane is observed to be less than 30° from the design boundary plane. Higher values of deffs are observed to give tolerance to higher deviation angles.

Abstract:
The influence that trace concentrations of SiO2have on improving grain-boundary conduction via precursor scavenging using additional heat treatment at 1200 °C for 40 h before sintering was investigated. At a SiO2-impurity level (SIL) ≤160 ppm by weight, the grain-boundary resistivity (ρgb) decreased to 20% of its value, while no improvement in grain-boundary conduction was found at a SIL ≥ 310 ppm. The correlation between the resistance per unit grain-boundary area, rgb, and average grain size indicated that the inhomogeneous distribution of the siliceous phase in the sample with a SIL ≥ 310 ppm hampered the scavenging reaction.

Abstract:
At elevated temperature (550°C) in CO2 environment, intergranular creep cracks have been observed in thermally and environmentally aged 316H austenitic stainless steel. The objective of this work is to enhance the understanding of the creep crack mechanism and the effects of environment on crack initiation and growth. Some microtests on Single Edge Notched Tensile specimen (SENT) have been performed to better describe the interaction between chemistry and mechanics at the microstructural scale. A creep crack monitoring procedure using Digital Image Correlation (DIC) have been developped and assessed using Finite Element Modelling (FEM) of cracked bi-crystal. Based on a projection on Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics expressions, the crack parameters (crack tip position, orientation) can be determined and the growth can be measured. A validation on in-situ tensile tests on SENT 316H specimen is proposed

Zamengo, Andrea. "Conceptual Design of the Power Supply system for the in-vessel saddle coils for MHD control in ASDEX Upgrade." Doctoral thesis, Università degli studi di Padova, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/11577/3427496.

Full text
Abstract:
In the frame of an ASDEX Upgrade enhancement, a system of active in-vessel coils (of two types, dubbed “A” and “B”) for MagnetoHydroDynamic (MHD) stabilization is being designed. The conceptual design of the power supply system has been worked out on the basis of the requirements, and extensive analyses have been performed to verify that the identified electrical schemes, based on a cascade topology with two IGBT (Isolated Gate Bipolar Transistor) H-bridges in series for the “A” units and one H-bridge for the “B” ones, were able to fulfill all the requirements, with the semiconductors operating well within safety operating limits. This work summarizes the studies which led to the definition of the power supply requirements, describes the topologies of the selected basic units and of the overall scheme, discusses the design choices, reports the results of the numerical simulations made to check the overall performance and analyses the problem of conducted EMI generated by the new power supply system.

Abstract:
Abstract. The scientific study is dedicated to the study of the pecu liarities of establishing legal facts in the conditions of the military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine (since 2014), as well as the limits of the court’s discretionary powers in this area. The authors, within the framework of this theoretical and applied work, while delineating the limits of the court’s discretionary powers, singled out the general conditions for establishing a legal fact in the order of civil jurisdiction, classified legal facts related to military aggression in Ukraine according to the order of establishment, and also carried out a detailed comparative analysis of the revisions of Article 317 of the Civil Code of Ukraine, which underwent significant changes in connection with the adoption by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on July 1, 2022 of Law of Ukraine № 2345-IX «On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine Regarding the Peculiarities of Proceedings in Cases Establishing the Fact of Birth or Death of a Person in conditions of war or state of emergency and in temporarily occupied territories». A legal evaluation of these changes was given and their effectiveness was analyzed taking into account the already formed judicial practice. Peculiarities of the Georgian and Moldovan models of establishing the facts of the death/birth of a person in the temporarily occupied territory are singled out, since in the past Georgia and Moldova, like Ukraine, were «lucky» to experience the «care of a brotherly neighbor». Taking into account the military realities in Ukraine and the prevailing circumstances, an opinion is expressed as to whether it is possible to introduce features of the Moldovan and/or Georgian models in Ukraine. The purpose of the study is to outline the limits of the court’s discretionary powers regarding the establishment of legal facts in the conditions of the military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine (since 2014). Isolation of the general conditions for the establishment of a legal fact in the procedure of civil jurisdiction. Taking into account the specific conditions and on the basis of the study of the judicial practice of the Unified State Register of Court Decisions, the classification of legal facts related to military aggression in Ukraine, according to the order of establishment. Analysis of key legislative changes made to the provisions of the Civil Procedure Code in terms of simplifying the procedure for establishing the fact of birth and death of a person in the temporarily occupied territory, under conditions of war and state of emergency. As well as a comparison of the relevant versions of Article 317 of the Civil Code of Ukraine to provide a legal assessment of the effectiveness of the changes made. Highlighting the key features of the Georgian and Moldovan models of establishing the fact of birth and death of a person in the temporarily occupied territory with the possibility of further borrowing and adoption of experience, as well as the implementation of such in Ukraine. Research methodology. The method of system analysis and compa rison was used during the research. Analysis of recent research and publications. A qualitative description of separate proceedings as an institution of civil procedural law is given in the works of M. M. Yasynok, O. O. Markova, V. Yu. Mamnytskyi, T. M. Balyuk, Y. M. Sadikova, Yu. V. Bilousov. The scientific works of A. V. Kostruba, K. I. Hychka, G. V. Kykot, V. V. Masyuk, and V. V. Komarov are devoted to the issue of establishing facts that have legal significance in separate proceedings under the Code of Civil Procedure of Ukraine. In addition, the study of the relevance of the indicated issues proves that the problems of legal regulation of the procedure for establishing the fact of birth and death of a person in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine are not fully studied. Although it is worth noting the significant contribution to research in this area by K. V. Husarova, I. M. Volkova, T. A. Stoyanova, M. H. Sviderska, O. I. Ugrynovska. and Pinyashka M., as well as other specialists in the science of civil procedural law. The empirical basis of primary source research is the modern legislation of Ukraine, as well as the legislation of Georgia and Moldova. In addition, it should be noted that M. Basilashvili covered the issue of comparative legal analysis of registration of civil status acts in Ukraine and Georgia in her research. Conclusions. It is obvious that cases on the establishment of facts of legal significance occupy an important place in judicial practice. The dynamism of social relations, and therefore the constant change of legislation in the conditions of war (since 2014), made it necessary to establish a new type of legal facts – a legal fact related to military aggression in Ukraine. The study of judicial practice on this issue gives reason to assert that the judicial body’s approach to the consideration of the specified category is becoming more and more qualitative. Aspecial role in the formation of the unity of judicial practice in solving the issue of establishing legal facts related to military aggression in Ukraine is played by the Supreme Court, which always stands guard to protect the violated rights of individuals. The legislative changes analyzed in this scientific study in terms of simplifying proceedings in cases of establishing the fact of birth or death of a person in the territory where a state of war or emergency has been imposed, or in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine, can rightly be called progressive, appropriate and necessary, since such are dictated by the realities of wartime in our country. Moreover, they will contribute to the unification of judicial practice in the matter of establishing the fact of birth and death of a person in the territory where a state of war or emergency has been imposed, or in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine. But the legislator still has a lot to work on in this matter. The regulation of the institution of establishing the fact of birth and death of a person in the temporarily occupied territory in Georgia and Moldova has many features, original legal norms that give grounds to conclude about the possibility of implementing specific positive points of foreign models of establishing the specified types of legal facts in Ukraine by improving Ukrainian legislation and applying in the Ukrainian legal space.

Abstract:
Abstract This report retrospectively examined the deaths of emergency patients following operations performed ‘out of hours’, i.e. between 18.01 h and midnight (evening) or midnight and 07.59 h (night-time), or operations performed on a Saturday, Sunday, or public holiday. The 1997 report was undertaken because previous NCEPOD studies had indicated that there appeared to be a disturbing number of deaths following operations performed out of hours. An analysis of over 50 000 cases in 355 NHS hospitals in 1995 and 1996 found that only 6.1% of weekday operations in the NHS were done out of hours but 93.4% of these were emergencies. Many of these procedures were carried out by trainee anaesthetists and surgeons, apparently without direct supervision. A total of 508 deaths were identified, of which 208 and 310 were subjected to detailed analysis of anaesthesia and surgery respectively. Seventy-one per cent of the deaths occurred following emergency admission, and co-morbidity was common, with 82% of patients classed as ASA grade 3 or higher. The report highlighted lack of preoperative preparation, low use of preoperative fluid resuscitation, infrequent objective assessment of cardiovascular function, and poor prophylaxis against thrombo-embolism. Suboptimal standards of care included delays in surgery, too junior levels of staff, poor interspeciality communication, and inappropriate operative procedures.

In 2016 24th International Conference on Nuclear Engineering. American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 2016. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/icone24-60450.

Full text
Abstract:
The objective of this work is to investigate the effects of the concentration of hydrogen atoms at the tungsten Σ5 (310) grain boundary (GB) on the GB energy and the GB pulling force. Tungsten (W) is the most preferred plasma facing material (PFM) for the future nuclear fusion reactors such as in the proposed DEMO (demonstration power plant) and ITER (international thermonuclear experimental reactor — which is at the moment the largest Tokamak nuclear fusion reactor under construction in the world. Tungsten is considered as a PFM because of its excellent thermal properties, low-sputtering yield and high melting point. However, hydrogen (H) atoms have an affinity for tungsten grain boundary, and are trapped there permanently. In addition, it makes it prone to failure. W will be exposed to extremely high fluences of H isotopes. The low-energy H isotopes will be retained in the tungsten material leading to the formation of blisters in W and causes degradation of the mechanical and thermal properties of W. Therefore for safety reason, the effect of hydrogen atoms at the tungsten Σ5 (310) symmetric tilt-GB needs to be investigated. This will greatly aid in better designing of fusion wall materials. In addition, the full understanding of the tungsten grain boundary energy and the force required to pull the grain boundary apart will also help in better material selection. Classic molecular dynamics method was used for the investigation. LAMMPS-a sophisticated, classical atomic and molecular dynamics modelling and simulation software, is a vital tool adopted for the investigation of the effects of hydrogen atoms in tungsten Σ5 (310) symmetric tilt-GB. Tersoff potential for W-H interactions was used for the modelling. The size of the simulation box is 10 × 100 × 10 lattices and it consists of 21262 W atoms. Periodic boundaries were used for all sides of the system. Conjugate gradient method was used for the minimization. The trajectories of the atoms were visualized using visual molecular dynamics (VMD) software. The GB energies are calculated to be −924.060 J/m2, −923.898 J/m2 and −743.414 J/m2 for pure W, W with one H atom and W with 30 H atoms are at the GB respectively. In addition, the forces required to separate the GB apart are 0.0279551eV/Ang for pure W, 0.024789eV/Ang and 0.0185eV/Ang for W with one H and 30 H atoms at the GB respectively. The result shows that hydrogen acts as a grain boundary embrittler and weakens the GB strength. The GB energy reduces as the concentration of hydrogen at the tungsten GB increases. In addition, the more the hydrogen atoms at the tungsten GB the lesser the value of the force required to pull the GB apart. However, the GB energies and pulling forces starts increasing slowly when H atoms exceed a certain number depending on the H atoms distribution around the W GB.

Abstract:
In this research, high-density and high-strength carbonized carbon blocks were manufactured by coke sintering resulted from heat treatments of biomass pyrolysis tar. First, the molecular weight distribution of the tar was controlled through a pressurized heat treatment at 365°C and then this heat-treated tar was treated using a delayed coking system to obtain the self-sintering coke. Finally, carbon blocks were molded from the self-sintering coke and carbonized at 1100°C for 2h. Through rapid decomposition of the high molecular weight compounds in the tar at 360°C, the molecular weight distribution of tar was confirmed to be controllable by this treatment stage. During carbonization was observed a swelling in carbon blocks manufactured that contain more than 15 wt% of volatile matter from 150-500°C. The optimum conditions of the two heat treatments stage were established to be 310°C for 3 h and 500°C for 1.5 h. The highest density and highest strength of the carbonized carbon blocks manufactured were 1.44 g/cm3 and 68.7 MPa, respectively.

Abstract:
The ternary LiNH2-MgH2-LiBH4 hydrogen storage system has been extensively studied by adopting various processing reaction pathways. The stoichiometric ratio of LiNH2:MgH2:LiBH4 is kept constant with a 2:1:1 molar ratio. All samples are prepared using solid-state mechano-chemical synthesis with a constant rotational speed, but with varying milling duration. All samples are intimate mixtures of Li-B-N-H and MgH2, with varying particle sizes. It is found that the samples with MgH2 particle sizes of approximately 10nm exhibit lower initial hydrogen release at a temperature of 150°C. The as-synthesized hydrides exhibit two main hydrogen release temperatures, one around 160°C and the other around 300°C. The main hydrogen release temperature is reduced from 310°C to 270°C, while hydrogen is first reversibly released at temperatures as low as 150°C with a total hydrogen capacity of 6 wt.%.

Abstract:
As a goal of this investigations was to establish the incidence of the circulation of pathogenic serotipes of the Salmonella spp. bacteria in the poultry enterprises specialized in the growth of broiler chickens and in the poultry factories specialized in production of eggs for current consumption. As material for the research were taken samples from the poultry rooms, and equipment, the faecal samples, shoe, surface washes from the equipment and the eggs for current consumption. The isolation and identification of bacteria from the genus Salmonella spp. were performed to the methodology in force at national level. For serotyping of bacteria from the genus Salmonella spp., were used the monovalent O and H sera. The results of bacteriological investigations of faecal samples collected from broiler chickens, demonstrated that the highest index of bacteria of the genus Salmonella spp. at the age of 1-2 days was 2.09±0.18 log CFU/g , with variations to 2.49±0.19 log CFU/g at the age of 20 days and with an increase up to 3.52±0.20 log UFC/g, at the 40 days age of chickens. Simultaneously with the faecal samples, were taken the samples from chicken corpses. The obtained indices demonstrated that the number of conditionally pathogenic microorganisms in the chickens corpses is higher with 2 log units, com-pared to this index obtained from faecal samples of live chickens. Bacteriological research performed at faecal samples of the flocks of laying hens have demonstrated that the index of bacteria of the genus Salmonella spp. at the age of hens of 145-165 days had relatively low variations (0.65±0.16 log CFU/g). At the beginning of the laying period (290-310 days) this index had a parameteres of 0,71±0,08 log CFU/g, but of the end of the laying period (450-470 days), the index had a double increasing and constituted 1.66±0.24* log CFU/g. The mentioned indexes demonstrated that the veterinary sanitary and preventive curative measures undertaken at the poultry units do not fully prevent the risks of contamination with bacteria of the genus Salmonella spp. and still remain an important problem for the health of poultry flocks. Bacteriological investigations confirmed that the index of Salmonella spp. bacteria in broiler flocks constituted 8.6%, with the predominance of serotype Salmonella pullorum gallinarum, and in laying hen flocks this index constituted 4.2%, with the predominance of Salmonella pullorum gallinarum and Salmonella typhimurium serotypes, which presents a risk of contamination both for poultry flocks and for human health.
