Abstract:
Objective: Currently natural polymers have wide spread importance in fabrication of controlled drug delivery systems. Hence in this study ocimum basilicum mucilage, (OBM) a natural polymer used to know its effect as polymer alone and in combination with HPMC K15M and Guargum in oral in situ floating gel of Valsartan using 3 full level factorial design. Methods: FTIR studies conducted to know major drug polymer interactions. OBM, HPMC K15M and Guargum were chosen as three independent variables and examined at 3 levels for in vitro buoyancy (Y1) and drug release at 10 h (Y2) as responses. By using mathematical model approach formulation variables were quantitatively evaluated, and optimized formulation (VFIG) subjected for in vitro buoyancy, density, pH, in vitro drug release, drug content, gelling capacity and drug release kinetics. In addition VFIG studied for In vivo buoyancy and release kinetics. Results: FTIR studies revealed that excipients were compatible with drug. ANOVA results shown that independent variables have significant effect (p<0.05) on both the responses. Observed responses of optimized formulation (3 % OBM, 0.88 % HPMC and 1.25 % Guar gum) were in good agreement with the experimental values. Results of all in vitro evaluations lies within the limits and drug release kinetics followed non-fickian diffusion mechanism. In vivo buoyancy study in rabbit evidenced floatation for>8 h and in vivo pharmacokinetic study exhibited increased bioavailability of optimized formulation. Conclusion: Prepared VFIG with optimized concentrations of OBM, HPMC K15M and Guargum exploiting as a promising dosage form for enhanced gastric delivery.

Abstract:
Vehicle movement over haul road is the major source of fugitive dust emission from opencast coal mines which adversely affect the environment. Water spraying is the most common practice for controlling fugitive dust generationfrom haul road. In this work, an innovative polymer was synthesised to study its effectiveness as a dust suppressing agent. Guargum grafted polyacrylamide (GG-g-PAM) polymer was synthesised by free radical polymerisation technique using Ceric Ammonium Nitrate (CAN) initiator. Haul road dust sample was collected from a mine and characterised by sieve analysis and Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis. An experiment was carried out at controlled environment in the oven to measure the moisture retention efficiency of the dust applying the synthesised polymerat different temperatures 25°C, 35°C and 45°C. For this purpose, 0.1 weight percentage of GG-g-PAM was mixed with water. The solution was sprayed over 20g dust sample (below 10 mesh size) in a petri dish. The same experiment was repeated with only water as the dust suppressant to compare with the effectiveness of GG-g-PAM. The experiments showed that application of GG-g-PAM polymer solution instead of only water helps to increasing moisture retention capacity of haul road dust by 12.9% after 8 h at 25°C, 14.7% after 8 h at 35 °C, and 25.4% after 2 h at 45°C. It is also observed that application of GG-g-PAM polymer solution helped in reducing the dust generation by 36% after 8 h at 25°C, 32% at 35°C after 6 h, and 65% after 2 h at 45 °C. This shows that during scorching summer when the temperature is, in general, above 40°C, GG-g-PAM solution has potential for suppression of haul road dust in opencast coal mines effectively.

Full text
Abstract:
The adoption of auxin-tolerant crops has increased awareness regarding herbicide off-target movement. Deposition aids are promoted as a possible solution to off-target movement, although their effect on spray canopy deposition are not well understood. Studies were conducted to determine the impact of deposition aids tank-mixed with herbicides on spray droplet size and canopy deposition. Commonly used herbicides were applied on soybean and cotton in combination with deposition aids (oil, polymer, and guargum). Interactions between herbicide solution and deposition aid influenced droplet size parameters for both cotton and soybean herbicides tested herein (p ≤ 0.0001). Generally, the addition of polymer and guargum deposition aids increased spray droplet size, whereas the addition of oil deposition aid decreased droplet size for some treatments. When herbicides were combined, the inclusion of deposition aids did not influence overall spray deposition on cotton (p = 0.82) and soybean (p = 0.72). When herbicide solutions were evaluated individually, the advent of deposition aids had inconsistent results with cotton and soybean spray deposition being unaffected, increased, or even decreased depending on the herbicide solution tested. For example, the polymer-based deposition aid increased spray deposition on cotton for applications of glyphosate + dicamba + S-metolachlor resulting in 1640.6 RFU (relative fluorescence units). However, the same deposition aid decreased spray deposition on cotton for applications of glyphosate + dicamba + acetochlor (1179.3 RFU). Although deposition aids influenced spray deposition on cotton and soybean for some herbicide combinations, their use should be determined on a case-by-case scenario.

Abstract:
Mucoadhesive drug delivery systems are very widely functional approach for delivery of system within the lumen of GIT to enhance drug absorption through the part of stomach with specific manner. Quinapril hydrochloride is the hydrochloride salt of quinapril, the ethyl ester of a non-sulfhydryl, angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor, quinaprilat. The quinapril hydrochloride microspheres was prepared with a coat consisting of alginate polymer i.e. sodium alginate in combination of mucoadhesive polymer chitosan/ guargum by an ionic gelation process. The microspheres were evaluated for morphological character, particle size, micromeritic properties, percentage entrapment efficiency, in-vitro wash-off test and in-vitro release studies. The drug quinapril hydrochloride was study for the release over 24 h duration. The retarding nature of system maximizing the medication discharge rate at the appropriate site within specified time period for enhancing the bioavailability of drug at desired site of action to give successful treatment to the patients experiencing hypertension The drug release of the microspheres (QLMM1 – QLMM10) was slow, extended and dependent on the composition of galactomannan concentration of polymer and stirring speed during formulation used. The mucoadhesive microspheres were adhered at intestinal pH due to highly swelling nature of composition of polymers at this pH. So, increase the adhesive strength and retarded the drug release of best composition of CH:GG in the ratio of 1:3 (QLMM6). Guargum is a highly viscous material having a property of more swelling nature due to presence of galactommannan constituent. Thus, drug release from QLMM6 was slow and extended over a period of 24 h and these microcapsules were found suitable for oral controlled release formulations. Abstract:
High quality cassava flour (HQCF) is now widely used production of baked foods in Nigeria but bread quality is impaired when it is used in the bread formulation. In order to overcome this problem, six breads samples were produced from wheat/HQCF/hydrocolloid:T0100%wheat flour(control);T190:9:CMC;T290:9:GG;T3,80:18:CMC;T4,80:18:GG;T570:27:CMC;T670:27:GG. The flour blends were analyzed for functional, colour and pasting properties while breads characteristics and sensory evaluation were performed in order to assess effect of hydrocolloids on bread. The results showed composite flour with hydrocolloids had the highest bulk density (0.704g/ml), water absorption capacity (2.98m/g), least gelation concentration (4.4g/g), oil absorption capacity (0.71m/g), while control had the highest swelling capacity (1.68g/g). Significant differences at p<0.05 were found on the pasting properties of addition of hydrocolloids with lower pasting temperature (71oC) and time (6.08 min). Bread quality attributes such as loaf volume, specific loaf volume, oven spring, crust colour, crumb colour and firmness of the fresh breads significantly improved with the addition of hydrocolloids compared with bread produced without improvers. The results show that high quality cassava flour could be incorporated up to 18% with carboxymethylcellulose at 2% level without affecting its overall acceptability and thereby enhance the potential for using locally produced flours in bread baking. Sensory score of bread from the addition of hydrocolloids were all acceptable by the panelist. The addition of hydrocolloids could be used as an effective means of improving the quality of gluten free bread.

Abstract:
Solubilization of poorly soluble drugs is a frequently encountered challenge in screening studies of newchemical entities as well as in formulation design and development. Solubility of some drugs is very less; thesedrug molecules are often lipophilic and hence dissolution may be a problem in drug absorption from solid oraldosage forms. The increasing interest of the technology of dosage form with natural biopolymers has becomethe reason for undertaking present investigation on the possibility of modification of guar gum application inthe preparation of an oral solid dosage form of a poorly water soluble drug. Present study examines the effect ofmodified guar gum on the solubility of a poorly water-soluble Nevirapine. Modified guar gum was preparedusing heat treatment (110-120oC for 2 hours) method. It was characterized for viscosity and swelling index etc.The physical and co-grinding mixtures of Nevirapine with modified guar gum were prepared in 1:4 drugs togum ratio. The physical and co-grinding mixtures were characterized by DSC and FT-IR study. The studiesconfirmed that there was no interaction between drug and carrier. Prepared mixtures were evaluated forsolubility study and in vitro dissolution studies. The results of present investigation indicated that modified guargum can be a used for the development of oral dosage form with increased solubility and hence improveddissolution and oral bioavailability of poorly water soluble drug.

Abstract:
90% of drugs being researched today, posses poor solubility setback which inturn renders the drug with slower rate of absorption from the buccal route; hence dissolution is the rate limiting step for such lipophilic drugs. So, there is a need to keep a check on the dissolution profile of these drugs to ensure maximum therapeutic utilization. The dissolution rate therefore becomes a primary factor which governs the rate and extent of its absorption. Enormous work is being performed in the field of enhancement of solubility and dissolution behaviour of such drugs. Advancements and innovations have developed solid dispersion (SD) technique as the novel method for the solubility enhancement. Precision of dosing and patient's compliance is a crucial prerequisite for the management of chronic Antihypertensive treatment, So there arised a need to formulate a system which should resolve the difficulties associated with conventional tablets. This issue can be better tackled with the formulation of orally fast disintegrating tablets. The aim of the present study was to improve the solubility and dissolution rate of Lercanidipine hydrochloride (LRH) by formulating a solid dispersion with Polyvinyl pyrollidine (PVP-K30) and Guargum. Full Factorial designs are exploited to learn and research the effects of different variables on the quality determinant parameters. An appropriate statistical model was selected for the scrutiny of the enhanced dissolution pattern. Finally, these solid dispersions were incorporated into fast disintegrating tablets. Abstract:

Abstract:
Interspecific hybridization in Tecoma Juss. was conducted to develop novel forms for the nursery industry. We report fertile hybrids from the cross T. garrocha Hieron. (pistillate parent) × T. stans (L.) Juss. ex Kunth. Leaf morphology of the F1 hybrids of T. garrocha × T. stans was intermediate between the parents. GISH also confirmed hybridity. The F1 hybrids were successfully backcrossed to both parents and self-pollinated to produce BC and F2 progeny. Tecoma garrocha , T. stans, and T. guarume A. DC. ‘Tangelo’ were self-fertile. The F1 hybrids also were crossed with T. capensis (Thunb.) Lindl. and T. guarume ‘Tangelo’, resulting in three-species hybrids. FISH conducted on F1 hybrids identified four copies of the 18S internal transcribed spacer region. Further analysis using FISH has the potential to provide information on the evolution of Bignoniaceae and the potential role of polyploidy.
