Abstract:
Fairness, forgiveness and grudge-holding are concepts which underlie many aspects of our interpersonal relationships. Fairness is the foundation of our day-to-day communication with others and forgiveness is concerned with a positive strategy used to manage negative emotional experiences of underserved [i.e. undeserved] unfair treatment. Grudge-holding results as an accumulation of negative feelings, which are associated with the original experience of unfairness. Two experimental studies investigated children’s perceptions of, feelings about, and reactions towards the unfair behaviour of a mother and a friend, by individually inviting the children to scenario-based interview sessions, which included three imaginary tasks. The children were asked to judge the fairness of a mother and a best friend’s treatment towards a child protagonist and to report their associated feelings, after listening to a scenario that described an interaction between a child and a mother and an interaction between a child and a friend. They further responded to three scenario-based experimental tasks, regarding their willingness to grant forgiveness, as opposed to expressions of hostility. In the first study, the children’s willingness to forgive, as a result of unfairness, was explored with 82 local primary school children in Palmerston North, New Zealand, whose ages ranged from 8- to 11-years-old, in addition to 50 parents of these participating children. The parents also completed a questionnaire about their approaches to their children’s common misbehaviours. The study found that the children were typically willing to grant forgiveness to a mother, even though she had been unfair. Their forgiveness tendencies were not related to aspects of parental disciplinary behaviour. However, an examination of the children’s verbatim responses through the use of thematic analysis revealed the complex nature of the relationship between parent and child concerning tolerance for mistakes. In the second study, I explored on whether the children’s repeated exposure to unfairness would contribute to their display of grudge-holding against a mother or a best friend in the scenarios and this investigation involved 55 local primary children, whose ages ranged from 8- to 12-years-old, in Wellington, New Zealand. The children participated in individual scenario-based interview sessions, which included three imaginary tasks over the two time periods, one week apart from each other. The children’s levels of grudge-holding was measured by analysing the possible increase in hostility, which the children expressed from Time 1 to Time 2. The study showed that a repeated experience of unfairness had a noticeable effect on the children’s level of hostility towards the person who was unfair and especially towards the best friend. The children’s verbatim comments also suggested some evidence of accumulated negativity in their responses to an unfairness experience. Thus, this study proved to be a suitable paradigm for operationalising grudge-holding in children.

A consciência sobre a morte é uma das marcas exclusivas da condição humana. Uma das grandes diferenças entre o homem e o restante da natureza, é que o animal não se sabe mortal; ou melhor, não significa a morte. Sendo assim, o homem é o único que pode significar e representar a morte por meio de diferentes formas de linguagens, de maneira a conceituá-la esteticamente. Assim sendo, o presente trabalho percorrerá sob análises literárias, versando sobre letras de músicas de algumas bandas que fizeram parte do movimento Grunge nos finais do século XX, em analogia com diversas obras que compõe a estética literária romântica do século XIX. Abordaremos especificamente os conjuntos Alice in Chains e Nirvana, juntamente com alguns trabalhos dos escritores Edgar Allan Poe e Charles Baudelaire. Ao longo desse estudo, enfocaremos as semelhanças entre estes autores, explanando de que maneira foi concebida a ideia de que tanto nas letras das músicas — bem como nos ambientes de alguns videoclipes — que se enquadram no movimento Grunge, quanto em obras românticas do século XIX, há tendências profundamente voltadas para temáticas fúnebres e sentimentais. Em suma, o presente estudo visa apresentar a postura do romântico em relação ao mundo, ilustrando suas atitudes e ideais transgressores por meio de expressões artísticas que cultuam a morte.
The consciousness about death is one of the exclusive traits of human condition. One of the biggest differences between man and the rest of nature is that the animal is unaware about its own mortality; or rather, it does not give meaning to death. Thus, man is the unique being who can represent and give meaning to death through different forms of language, in order to conceptualize it aesthetically. Therefore, this study will cover the literary analysis, dealing with the lyrics of some bands of the late twentieth century Grunge movement, in analogy with several works that make up the romantic literary aesthetic of the nineteenth century. Specifically, the songs of Alice in Chains and Nirvana, along with some works of the writers Edgar Allan Poe and Charles Baudelaire. Throughout this study, we shall focus on the similarities between these works, explaining the idea that both the lyrics of the songs that fit into the Grunge movement - as well as the environments of some video clips - and the romantic texts of the nineteenth century have trends deeply rooted on funereal and sentimental themes. In short, this study aims to present the romantic attitude toward the world, illustrating its transgressive attitudes and ideals through artistic expressions of worship to death.

Som låtskrivare är det vanligt att jag hamnar i gamla mönster i mitt komponerande. Jag använder mig ofta av ackord som jag vanligtvis har i mina låtar och går ofta tillbaka till den harmonik som jag tidigare haft i mina kompositioner. Detta examensarbete som jag har jobbat med under hösten 2020 och våren 2021 har som syfte att utforska hur låtskrivning med tonartsfrämmande ackord kan ge upphov till annorlunda melodiska och harmoniska strukturer. Jag har komponerat låtar som inkluderar ackord som inte finns i låtens tonart. Min teoretiska bakgrund har gett mig stor hjälp och jag har läst arbeten som går in på ämnet grungemusik och jag har även studerat videos som diskuterar tonartsfrämmandeackord. Jag har analyserat andra låtar som använder sig av ackord utanför tonarten och har även läst andra arbeten som gått in på just detta ämne. Arbetet har lett till att jag har utvecklats som låtskrivare och att jag har öppnat mina sinnen för ackordens alla möjligheter i mitt komponerande.

Através de uma leitura pormenorizada dos textos em epígrafe e à luz das mudanças sociais e culturais da história dos Estados Unidos da América, a minha investigação destina-se a determinar em que medida o decadentismo nascido em França no final do século XIX, com autores como Rimbaud e Baudelaire, influenciou o trabalho de escritores do século XX, como a geração Beat, e como essa estética se transpôs para a música popular durante os anos 60 do século XX, através de nomes como Bob Dylan e Jim Morrison. Pretende-se também demonstrar a forma como, nos anos 90, essa estética foi recuperada por um movimento musical em Seattle denominado grunge, mais concretamente nas canções de Kurt Cobain. Fulcral a este trabalho é uma investigação das mudanças sociais e culturais da história dos Estados Unidos para que se possa entender a influência que tiveram nos autores.

Abstract:
Die vorliegende Arbeit beschreibt die Synthese, das Reaktionsverhalten und die Charakterisierung von neuartigen in Position 2 silylsubstituierten Indenylkomplexen mit Metallen der Gruppe 4 des Periodensystems der Elemente. Insbesondere konnten silylenverbrückte Komplexe synthetisiert werden, in welchen bislang unbekannte indenylhaltige ansa-Zirconocendichloride und Halbsandwichmetalldichlorid-Komplexe mit rigidem Ligandengerüst verwirklicht sind. Diese zeigen besondere Eigenschaften als Katalysatoren in der homogenen Ziegler-Natta-(Co)Polymerisation von Ethen und Propen. Die einfache Zugänglichkeit von 2-Indenylsilanen konnte durch eine Eintopfsynthese erreicht werden, bei welcher ausgehend von 2-Bromindenen sehr gute Ausbeuten erreichbar sind. Zur Synthese der 2-Bromindene wurden verschieden substituierte Indene verwendet. Durch Variation des Substituentenmusters ist es möglich die Eigenschaften des Katalysators gezielt zu beeinflussen. Die positionsabhängige Aufklärung der Substituenteneigenschaften von Me und/oder SiMe3 im Indengerüst nimmt daher einen bedeutenden Anteil dieser Arbeit ein. Zu diesem Zweck wurden neuartige substituierte Indenyltitantrichloride präparativ zugänglich gemacht und in Kombination mit bekannten Indenyltitantrichloriden mittels UV/VIS-Spektroskopie und Cyclovoltammetrie untersucht. Auf der Basis des gewonnenen Datenmaterials gelang es die Wirkung der Substituenten auf die Grenzorbitale von Indenyltitantrichlorid zu modellieren. Unterstützt wurde das Arbeitsmodell durch Extended-Hückel-Rechnungen, wobei die Koeffizientenverteilung im p-System des Indenylliganden als eigenschaftsbestimmend erkannt wurde. Indenyltitantrichloride ermöglichen zudem den Zugang zu Verbindungen des Typs (h5-Ind)TiCl2-OR mit R = Aryl, (h5-Ind)TiCl2 [(Ind) = C9H7, (1-SiMe3C9H6)]. Diese Komplexe zeigen auffällige strukturelle Übereinstimmungen und Ähnlichkeiten mit verbrückten ansa-Amidohalbsandwichtitandichloriden.

Darbo tikslas – nustatyti sunkiųjų metalų Vilniaus miesto aikštynų grunte pasiskirstymo ypatumus. Šiame darbe buvo naudoti 2007 metais surinktų ir ištirtų 52 Vilniaus miesto stadionų ir sporto aikščių grunto geocheminiai duomenys, nustatyti optinės atominės emisinės spektrometrinės analizės metodu Geologijos ir geografijos instituto spektrinių tyrimų laboratorijoje sekantiems cheminiams elementams: Ag, B, Ba, Co, Cr, Cu, Mn, Mo, Ni, Pb, Sn, V ir Zn. Darbe atliktas Vilniaus miesto stadionų ir sporto aikščių geohigieninis ir ekogeocheminis vertinimas. Nustatinėta cheminių elementų foninių kiekių priklausomybė nuo grunto granuliometrinės sudėties ir grunto tipo pagal Vilniaus miesto kvartero geologinio žemėlapio duomenis. Taip pat buvo nustatinėjami tyrimo objektų būdingieji taršos bruožai. Darbo metu nustatyta, kad tirtų Vilniaus miesto stadionų ir sporto aikščių gruntas užterštas Zn, Pb, Cu, Ag ir Sn. Pirmieji trys cheminiai elementai sietini su autotransporto tarša, o kiti du priskirtini su buitinių atliekų keliama tarša. Cr, V, Mn ir B kiekiai priklauso nuo grunto mineralinės sudėties ir nėra sietini su technogenine tarša. Nustatyti Mo, Ba, Ni ir Co kiekiai nekelia didelio pavojaus gyvajai aplinkai ir žmonėms. Pagal optinės atominės emisinės spektrofotometrinės analizės duomenis didžiausią pavojų aplinkai kelia Pb, Zn, Sn ir Ag tarša, kuri viršija DLK penkiose tirtose vietose. The aim of investigation was to determine distribution peculiarities of heavy metals in stadiums of Vilnius City. The 52 samples from the uppermost part (~10 cm depth) of soil were taken in year 2007. Ag, B, Ba, Co, Cr, Cu, Mn, Mo, Ni, Pb, Sn, V ir Zn contents were determined by optical atomic emission spectrophotometry. In addition, Cu, Pb and Zn were analyzed by XRF. The analyses were carried out at Institute of Geology & Geography. Two background level sets of the determined chemical elements were calculated for soils classified according grain-size analysis and geological data extracted from the Quaternary geological map of Vilnius. The obtained results revealed that Zn, Pb, Cu, Ag and Sn contaminate soils of some stadiums. The contamination of soils by Zn, Pb and Cu could be related to chemical pollution from motor vehicles. A domestic waste pollution may have influenced elevated quantities of Ag and Sn. The rest elements (Cr, V, Mn and B) are rather controlled by the mineral composition of soils. The contamination of soils by Mo, Ba, Ni and Co is not significant and risk to the environment and the people is minimal. The major threat to the environment arises from Pb, Zn, Sn and Ag contamination. The maximum allowable concentration (MAC) of the latter elements is exceeded in the five surveyed areas. Abstract:
My dissertation project, Die Gruppe ZERO: Working through Wartime Trauma, analyzes the art, publications, and demonstrations of the art movement Zero. Zero’s core artists, Otto Piene, Heinz Mack, and Günther Uecker worked in West Germany and emerged as a group in West German in 1957. They worked together until they officially disbanded in 1966. My project investigates the specific historical context of Zero, which encompasses the artists’ experience of World War II, its dismal aftermath, the rise of the Wirtschaftswunder (Economic Miracle), and the mounting tensions of the Cold War. In between the lines of Zero manifestos, which are wildly riddled with utopian rhetoric, were the sentiments of their dark reality. Zero artists’ desire to create all-consuming visual phenomena for the observer stemmed directly from their own immersive experience on the ground during the aerial raids of World War II. Zero artists desired to erase the terrorizing charge embedded in the memory of the past and the fears of the present, through bodily experience that would give survivors a new sense of personal agency.

O “grude” de gurijuba (Arius spp.) é um material orgânico obtido da bexiga do peixe que leva este nome, tendo sido, possivelmente, utilizado por séculos como aditivo para argamassas de cal na construção artesanal, no estado do Pará. O presente estudo visou a investigação histórica acerca do procedimento consagrado pela tradição oral para posterior análise da influência da adição deste material nas propriedades físicas e mecânicas de argamassas de cal. Assim, o grude foi adicionado às argamassas nos teores de 2% e 5% em relação à massa de cal, sendo os seus resultados comparados à amostra de referência (sem adição). Confeccionaram-se corpos-de-prova, que foram submetidos, após as idades de 150 e 300 dias, à caracterização física (massa unitária, porosidade, absorção de água por capilaridade, carbonatação e alterabilidade por sulfato de sódio), assim como ao ensaio de resistência mecânica à compressão axial e tração na flexão. Os resultados mostraram que a adição do grude da gurijuba melhorou as propriedades mecânicas e a resistência ao ataque de sais e reduziu a absorção de água total e por capilaridade nas ditas argamassas de cal. Na carbonatação, na porosidade e na massa unitária, o aditivo orgânico não influenciou significativamente.
