Abstract:
This qualitative study examines the migratory experience of immigrant Latina married women. It looks at their experience from both an individual and a systemic perspective. It compares their experience to that of grief due to bereavement using Parkes' theory of the grief process. This research also presents findings as to the effects of migration on the marital system. Analysis of interview data provided by 12 Latin American women who resided in the United States ranging from 2 years to 10 years, allowed a comparison between the experience of these women and the grief process theory. The findings of the study indicate that although there are some slight differences between grieving a deceased person and grieving the loss of a country, the similarities predominate. The data gathered was divided into the categories of initial mixed-emotions, searching, anger, disorganization and despair, recovery. Furthermore, the impact of immigration on the marital dyad was analyzed. The interviewees reported an increase in marital argument during the first stages of immigration with a tendency to decrease as time lapses. Overall, the interviewees identified their marital relationship as being stronger than prior to coming to the United States.

Full text
Abstract:
The aim of this study was to assess the applicability of the grief process to job loss. A pilot study of ten unemployed men was used to establish the structured interview and an appropriate form of content analysis, based on the components of grief derived from studies of bereavement. Other measures assessed the degree of attachment to the former job. This was followed by a cross-sectional study involving 60 men who had lost their jobs over the previous eight years. All of the individual components of grief were found among the sample and twenty seven percent of the sample fulfilled a criterion for a clear grief-like response. A longitudinal study involving 38 men extending over twelve months was then carried out so that changes over time could be investigated more thoroughly. In this study, too, all of the individual components of grief were found among the sample, and at the time of the first interview, twenty four percent of the men fulfilled the criterion for an unambiguous grief-like reaction. There was a high level of consistency in the results of the cross- sectional and longitudinal studies. Both cross-sectional and longitudinal studies provided evidence that some of the factors said to mediate the effects of bereavement had a similar influence on reactions to unemployment. In both, individual characteristics rather than length of time since job loss accounted for variation in the men's reactions and neither the patterns suggested by stage theories for bereavement nor for unemployment were reproduced.

Abstract:
Grief is a life changing and universal experience, expressed through individual sets of responses and behaviours. Society and health workers’ interpretation and beliefs regarding grief and bereavement have changed throughout the decades. This is a continually evolving process. As we move into a new century, so too does grief move into a new era where a new postmodern paradigm is arising. We are thus deviating away from stage theories that are time limited, linear and predictable. Emphasis in this new wave of thought is placed upon grief as an oscillating and highly unique experience, one that encourages a continuation of a bond and lifetime relationship with the deceased. This current qualitative study explores the new phenomenon in relation to both the grief process and bereavement support programs, by extensively reviewing the literature and analysing data from a number of interviews with the bereaved. Furthermore the supports offered by society, with particular focus on a Melbourne Community Bereavement Follow Up Program, are reviewed. By observing and discussing expressions of grief it was found, although unique and varying, some patterns or common behaviors emerged. Supports and comforts that assisted the bereaved are explored. Issues, including inappropriate comments and problems with bureaucratic departments, are also developed and discussed. There is an emphasis placed upon the need of health care staff and the community in general to increase their understanding of the grief process and bereavement support, so as to enhance care and practice when working with people who have suffered loss.

Abstract:
An exploration began to understand the relationship between architecture and human emotion. Inspired by a personal story of loss, this thesis began to disseminate the five stages of the Elizabeth Kübler Ross model of grief. Each of the stages was studied in depth to find architectural elements that relate to every stage. Furthermore, the elements helped establish a mood and quality of the spaces that were directly associated with program, light, and material. As the project began to evolve, a series of questions of architectural sequence, material practices, and placemaking followed and with every step, a decision was to be made. This constant decision-making was influenced by sets of conditions and contexts resulting in a methodology specific to a particular site. This thesis presents a case to look at architecture through a qualitative design process. It endeavors to define and explore elements of architecture to create an experience, that has impact on human emotion.

Abstract:
Abstract The purpose of this study was to describe the family grief and recovery process through a qualitative phenomenological family therapy approach. The study included stories of 22 families and one focus group. Of the losses 14, were perinatal, 6 Sudden Infant Death Syndromes (SIDS) and 2 neonatal deaths. The analysed text was divided into 21 categories, which represent different aspects of the meaning systems of the families. All the families had traumatic symptoms in the beginning, and some mothers suffered from persistent posttraumatic symptoms for several months. Children processed their experiences in grief play and tried to restore their parents back into their roles. Grief was shared in extended families, especially religious families, where acute grief soon generated new meanings. The recovery process starts immediately after the loss, manifesting as thoughts of coping. Grief, trauma and recovery appear intertwined in the stories. Family grief is a many-faceted physical, psychological, spiritual and social process. It is paradoxical, and restorying and retelling are therefore important as a healing process. The main finding of this study is the intensive way the parents initially need to reprocess their attachment to the psychological remains of their baby in order to recover. Grieving thus involves deep attachment rather than detachment, Some families have phantom babies who continue to live psychologically and almost physically or little angels who comfort and escort the family. The parents have invested so much primeval energy in the baby who is no longer alive that they tend to re-create her/him in their minds psychologically or spiritually. Professional helpers still have too little knowledge of crisis intervention. The loss of a baby is an exceptional type of normal grief and the parents therefore have difficulties in getting the support they need. Family debriefing and follow-up are necessary.

Abstract:
Sixty-six people who had recently experienced the death of a parent or a spouse completed a questionnaire packet to assess their current grief symptomatology and some characteristics of the relationships within their family. Participants were asked to fill out a questionnaire 4-5 weeks after the death and then again six months later. The present study compared two competing models to explain whether the grief process affects the characteristics of relationships within the family system or that family characteristics affect the experienced grief symptoms.

Abstract:
This study was designed to assess the process of meaning loss for family members who cared for their terminally ill loved ones during the grief process as well as determine factors that might be related to loss of meaning. The Purpose in Life Test (PIL) was used as the dependent measure. The independent variables consisted of age, education level, relationship to patient, gender, ethnicity, whether counseling was received, types of counseling received, and time between diagnosis, death and the present. The data were gathered on 87 caregivers who were participating in the St. Mary's Hospice program in Tucson, Arizona. All caregivers were over age 18 and between three and thirteen months past the death of their loved one. The data analyzed in four stages beginning with the development of descriptive statistics. During the second stage a correlation matrix was constructed and explored. A multiple regression was performed during the third stage to assess which of the independent variables could explain any variance obtained with the dependent measure. In the last stage a factor analysis was done and compared with a factor structure from previous research with the PIL Test. Nine hypotheses were tested producing the following results: Meaning in life tended to be higher for those less close in relationship to the patient such as nieces, nephews, and in-laws. There was no significant difference between a caregiver being a spouse, child, sibling or parent of the deceased loved one and meaning in life. There was no significant difference in age, education level, gender, ethnicity, whether counseling was received, types of counseling received and time between diagnosis, death and the present and meaning in life. The factor analysis revealed a five factor solution. It was concluded that the PIL Test taps two factors that can be labeled Purpose in Life and Contentedness With Life. The overall conclusion of the study was that caregivers in the sample possess a unique and similar sense of meaning in life that may be due to a sharing a common experience. There may also be some unifying factor about those choosing to enter a Hospice program that may attract a homogeneous group of people.

Abstract:
In this thesis we develop a new model that explains the overall grief recovery process for abusiness failure on a family group level. The model builds on, and expands the theories ofanticipatory grief as presented by Shepherd, Wiklund, and Haynie (2009) and the dual processof coping presented by Shepherd (2003). The qualitative method used for this thesiswas a multiple case study approach, with an in-depth focus. Our main findings was the importanceof aligning the entrepreneurs anticipatory grief stage with the family’s coping process,by maintaining transparent and open relationships where information could easily beexchanged. In addition we found that maintaining this transparency was often difficult forthe entrepreneur due to a series of factors, which we refer to as a “barrier to informationflow”, which include everything from stress to societal interference. Finally we proposehow our model can be applied and used to generate further knowledge and additional researchon the emotional aspects of a business failure.

Abstract:

With the increasing digitalization of society, the line between private and public has blurred. Social network sites (SNSs) like Facebook and Instagram facilitate such a process, with users utilizing the sites for public displays of private emotions or events. What was once intimate conversation between two individuals or personal experience shared only with those in one’s physical company have become public conversations and shared experiences for networks of Friends and Followers to comment on, like, share, and survey. Consequently, social media has allowed for heightened expressions of grief, a formerly private experience, online through the use of images, words, and reactions. The current study uses survey and interview data to understand who uses social media to grieve the loss of a family member (a particularly private loss), why an individual might do this, and how such posting influences the grieving process for the social media user

Abstract:
In recent years, the opioid epidemic in the United States has garnered attention on a federal and local level due to the increasing number of fatal overdoses. This study aimed to explore the experiences of parents who have an adult child who has passed away from an opioid overdose. This study used the Double ABC-X model of family stress theory. Bonadaptation versus maladaptation of each parent was discussed across a multitude dimensions. Qualitative semi-structured interviews were conducted with six parents living in the state of Maryland who each had an adult child, age 18+, die from an opioid overdose 2 or more years prior to the study. Data was analyzed using thematic analysis. Themes that emerged were as follows: the grieving process, support vs. stigma, experiences with state and local services, parental guilt, shame, and unanswered questions, coping mechanisms, and post-mortem life changes. While overall adaptation levels varied among participants, all participants reported positive and negative outcomes related to their experience of grief and loss. Implications for clinical practice and intervention are discussed. Researchers also make recommendations for future research.

Abstract:
There is growing evidence investigating the aftermath of homicide on those families bereaved. The literature suggests a potentially devastating emotional and psychological impact on family members and loved ones. Despite this, the research focused on developing and empirically evaluating service provision and clinical interventions for this population is sparse and lends its focus to support groups (Blakley & Mehr, 2008) and family therapy (Hatton, 2003). The aim of the current thesis is to conduct an evaluation of a service that provides therapeutic interventions with those bereaved by homicide. It will present a mixed methods approach, utilising thematic analysis of interviews with staff members and quantitative analysis of service user’s psychological distress outcomes. Finally, based on key findings presented, implications for future research, policy development and practice are included.

Abstract:
The study examines individuals' experience of group psychotherapy for complicated grief treatment. Through semi-structured interviews and qualitative survey questions have descriptions of the various life worlds of individuals from different perspectives been obtained. Previous research and theories are presented which constitute tools for analysis of the obtained results. The results present the tremendous and sometimes vital significance the treatment had on individuals' wellbeing. It also presents three aspects that were decisive for the positive outcome of the treatment. These were the relationship to the therapist, the method used and the community in the group. The meaning of community was further examined on a deeper level. The obtained result of this question shows that understanding from the other group members, the fact that the individuals' realized that they’re not unique about their situation and that awareness and insight in thoughts and interpersonal behavior arose were of greatest meaning. This discovery is presented as a tentative model that could provide a basis for future research. The results are discussed and analyzed in relation to the purpose of the study and previous research. Finally, conclusions and further suggestions for future research are presented.

Contracte discursiu; 2.

The present investigation aims to study the psychotherapist interventions, the patterns that are established throughout the process and the impact these have on the client's processes. We also seek to study and describe the semantic-narrative mechanisms and techniques involved in the psychotherapy process from the psychotherapist's perspective. This approach is framed within qualitative hermeneutical research understood from the relational constructivist perspective and narrative grief psychotherapy. This thesis comprises two main studies: Study 1 focused developing process of a new transtheoretical and easily usable coding system, the Psychotherapist Interventions Coding System (PICS), which is focused on the use of language by the psychotherapist throughout the psychotherapy process. The resultant coding system comprises 4 macro-groups, which contain specific categories: 1. Discursive contract; 2. Facilitators of the therapeutic relationship 3. Facilitators of the client's’ speech; and 4. Liberation of constraining speeches. Study 2 consisted of the application of the PICS to a good outcome grief psychotherapy case; we aimed to validate and improve the coding system (PICS); and with the outcome, we contributed to the knowledge on the psychotherapist’s interventions and their impact on the psychotherapy process. The most significant conclusion and contributions drawn from the whole investigation process are: (a) The PICS may be used to study how and which psychotherapist interventions may be contributing in different ways within psychotherapeutic processes; (b) We have successfully applied this system and have enlarged the knowledge on how the psychotherapist’s interventions and narrative techniques facilitate the work of integrating the loss into one's life history; (c) We have tested our system and promote its use as a tool to develop novel psychotherapist training in the clinic practice; (d) We have enlarged the literature on the processes that are involved in the course and development of the elaboration of a grieving process in a psychotherapeutic context.

Abstract:
Previous research shows that, after the loss of a parent, the child’s wellbeing is enchanced if the child gets back to pre-school, where the children all the time are given the opportunity to play, which is a central part of the child's processing of grief. Our purpose of this study is to find out how the pre-school perceive the way they work and support, and how they think they would work and support, children who has lost a parent. We also want to find out what help they can bring in when the teachers’ support and knowledge is not enough. And finally we want to see if there are plans for situations like these in pre-schools.In this study, we used empirical research in the form of informal interviews. We randomly selected five teachers in different pre-schools in the municipality. Three of these teachers have worked with a child who has lost a parent. The results show that teachers believe playing is an important part of a child’s grief process, but it must be the child who takes the initiative to play and also to talk about their loss. The results also shows that all the teachers were positive of bringing in outside help for the child, but that the knowledge of where to get this help from was not sufficient. Not all pre-schools in the study have plans for how to proceed if a child loses a parent.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This dissertation was used to addresses a group of individuals who work as eye bank coordinators. These individuals call families and approach them for eye donations from a loved one who has just passed away. An interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) was used to explain the lived experience of eye bank coordinators who call families for consent of eye tissue. The focus was to understand the dedication of the coordinators to giving the gift of sight and exploring the positive and negative experiences of eye bank coordinators. IPA is used for a keen understanding of eye bank coordinators, and the investigator gained insight as to why their role and well-being is important to eye banks by conducting and analyzing the interviews through the lived experiences of eye bank coordinators. The theoretical underpinnings of this research were based on the theory of planned behavior and self-perception theory. Four participants were interviewed as to their positive and negative experiences in their daily work. The research questions were What are the positive and negative experiences of eye bank coordinators when requesting permission for eye donations from bereaved families (RQ1)? and How do the positive and negative lived experience of eye bank coordinators influence their adjustment of strategies when requesting permission for eye donations from bereaved families (RQ2)? Encountering positive and enthusiastic family donors, needing to understand the situation or grief of family members, encountering closed-minded family members, and limited negative encounters experienced were the main themes that addressed RQ1. The main themes that addressed RQ2 were having the energy and motivation to seek for more donors, ensuring the right information was conveyed to the families, feeling more relaxed and comfortable, continuing to explain and ensure the correct information was conveyed, coaching and collecting oneself back, knowing how to read the actions and reactions of families, and learning from experiences and becoming more cautious.

The objective of this study is to understand and describe the difficulties of a person with hemiplegia as a consequence of a CVA (Cerebrovascular Accident), commonly known as stroke, and the process of symbolic grief of the body and the sequels. The emotional repercussion due to physical limitations acts significantly on the social, economical and emotional scope of the individual, causing disorganization to his/her life. To face these changes, the person has to count on his/her internal and external resources, which will or will not enable the elaboration of the process of the symbolic grief. A qualitative study was carried out based on the Theory of Attachment by John Bowlby with the participation of four hemiplegic adult patients. The data collection included a semi-oriented interview to describe and analyze the significance of the interrelation of himeplegia, between the body representation and the subjectivity of each person. The information arisen from qualitative analysis procedures was discussed and the conclusion was that it is difficult to measure, validate and recognize the existence of losses caused by the disease and the gradual appropriation of reality. The physical rehabilitation aiming at independence is evaluated according to the gain in life quality of the participants. However, mechanisms of defense, as denial or non acceptance, demonstrate the difficulty to adapt to a new reality. According to the results, we conclude that it is important to identify the expectations of the handicapped person, the significance he/she attributed to the disease and to his/her himeplegia. This survey supports the need to investigate the repercussion of the CVA in general to obtain a better result from the rehabilitation process

The research contains the study of the creative process of the documentary Um Corpo Subterrâneo (2007), of the brazilian filmmaker Douglas Machado, with the theorist horizon of the studies of process critique. The link of our analysis is the understanding of the creation as a network in process , (SALLES, 2006, p.19) and, therefore, the research proposes the dive into the creation of the documentary, going beyond the analysis of the final film. We will go through the paths of creation with the genetic dossier of the director (note books, editing script , still, edited versions, interviews, among others), and data from his biography and filmography with value to this study that allows to build hypothesis and establish possible relations between these materials and the work that resulted from these connections. Those connections that define the narrative proposal chosen by the filmmaker, that privileges the construction of the other by the memory of the grief, and that point to the poetic project of the director.

Abstract:
Introduction: The death of the spouse represents several challenges to be faced by bereaved widows, mainly during the first six months. It commonly predisposes to health decline with impact in daily life. To understand the grieving process the \"Dual Process Model of Coping with Bereavement\" is highlighted. To this theoretical model, one of the types of stressor that the widows have to deal with is the restoration-oriented. It includes the involvement in daily activities that are not related to loss. This involvement is unique depending on the meaning given by the person to daily activities. Objective: To know the meaning attributed to daily activities focused on restoration by women after the death of their elderly spouse due to cancer, up to six months after death. Method: It is a qualitative exploratory and descriptive study. Its target population is constituted by widows: a) female; b) who had a relationship with the deceased exclusively through marriage or stable union; c) residing in São Paulo state; d) whose spouses have died within the past 2-6 months due to cancer and were over the age of 60; e) and whose spouses had been attended by the Palliative Care Service of The Hospital das Clínicas of the University of São Paulo Medical School during the period May- October 2015. The spouses that agree to participate in the study were invited to a private interview, which occurred from October to December 2015. To its conduction a semi-structured guideline was used which aimed to know if the participants took part or thought about taking part in restoration-oriented daily activities, and the meaning they attribute to them. The content of the interviews were recorded, transcribed and analyzed using the coding process. Comprehensive themes emerged from this process. Results: A first theme was identified on the results related to the influencing factors upon the meaning of daily activities focused on restoration which were: a) distress resulting from the perception of the husband\'s absence in daily life; b) caretaker role performance; c) negative perception about the quality of the previous relationship with the spouse; d) participation in the circumstances that involved the spouse\'s death and in the decisionmaking procedures of treatment during his illness; e) support from the informal network and the presence of pet animals; f) spirituality. The second theme that emerged from the results referred to the interviewees\' report about their participation in the interviews conducted in this thesis. Discussion: The recognition of the influencing factors upon the meaning attributed to daily activities gives opportunity for reflection on the support given to widows after their spouses\' death, especially taken into account that women benefit more from interventions focused on restoration. It is understood that studies using interviews as data collecting procedure can benefit the participants facing the bereavement, since it can potentially help them to elaborate their experiences. Conclusion: It is believed that this thesis represents advances in the understanding about the involvement in daily activities during bereavement, what helps the Palliative Care provided to the family after the patient death

Abstract:
This thesis provides an ethnographic account of the journey from diagnosis with a life-limiting illness to the end of life. It tracks the lives and eventual deaths of eight people and 83 family members for a period of three and a half years in total. Culture is located as a central element or lens by which to view this journey. The role, function and issues for social work as a profession are discussed in various chapters. The theoretical underpinnings of the thesis are informed by the ecological perspective combined with psychosocial theories of loss and grief. Drawing on a broad social systems theory, in conjunction with an ethnographic methodology and grounded theory analysis, contributes to the development of research which firmly takes culture into account. Four primary topic areas are presented: a narrative exploration of diagnosis, the changing landscape that participants encounter, the embodiment of new places and spaces, and finally, the journey’s end. The themes from the four topic areas contribute to the development of the two core categories “time and place” and “preparedness for death”. A schematic representation of the paths participants took is provided in the discussion of the core categories. Lastly, the New Zealand Palliative Care Strategy (Ministry of Health, 2001) is drawn on to aid the discussion of issues arising from the research and the implications for practice in this field.

Abstract:
Games are a natural part of many people's everyday lives and have gone from being a divergent interest to become Sweden's biggest cultural export. As a result from this expansion, digital tools had to be further developed and through this progress these tools have reached new areas of usage, which has created new challenges for game developers. The games that offers a higher purpose than pure entertainment goes under the genre serious games. Serious games are used in various application areas such as; in the military, health care, education, business, and psychology, which is the framework of this thesis. By combining and unifying previous research grounded in psychology and game science I want to answer the questions: How can games be used as a therapeutic tool in a child's grieving process? and, Which features should such a game focus on? These questions are answered through the information gathered from two interviews conducted with respondents that have different expertise within the area of this study, this to reach a broader perspective. A child's grieving process can manifest itself in various ways depending on the individual's level of sensitivity. It is therefore difficult to draw any general conclusions on how such a game should be designed. All games have the opportunity to motivate and engage, but this is not unique to a serious game and therefore a measurement function is essential in a digital rehabilitation tool to provide the therapist with valuable information about the patient. The figurative language makes it possible for the child to communicate where the spoken language sometimes has limits. For older children social support can be important as it creates opportunities to meet others in similar situations and together work towards improvement. Grief is a non-linear process and can present itself in many different ways and it is therefore important that the game should offer various turn-outs to make it adaptable for the individual.

Abstract:
This research aims to analyze the harmless error rule, strictly related to the subject of nullities in the criminal procedure. As a deployment of the theory of instrumentality of the procedural forms, the harmless error rule provides that a mistake will only cause the nullity of the procedure if there is evidence to support that the prosecution or the defense were actually harmed by that error. Although extremely important for the incorporation of teleological model of nullity, the mentioned harmless error rule has been wrongfully applied by Brazilian courts. In reality, the understanding of the actual meaning of the word harm, as per article 563 of the Criminal Procedure, has been lost throughout so many different confusing and controversial court decisions. The harmless error rule, initially used in civil cases, was brought to criminal procedure without the needed adjustments. There is no minimum systematization in order to identify a harmful error and, therefore, nowadays the judge has total discretion to determine in each case the severity of the error. Given this reality, the most important function of a procedural form, which is to protect the defendant against eventual arbitrary measures committed by the State, is normally forgotten. All these issues have caused an unstable background regarding the correct application of the nullities, leading to a noticeable legal uncertainty in this subject. This research has the intention to come up with a rational model of application of the harmless error rule, based on which the judges will find the necessary criteria to recognize nullities in criminal procedures.

This is a qualitative research with a case study of the grieving process and coping strategies of a family whose member has got a congenital and progressive disability, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). This study addresses the mourning as a natural process and seeks to understand it like a phenomenon from the meanings constructed by each member of this researched family, the mother and children, for the type of disability installed and developed in their family life. The instrument used for collect of data was semi-structured and thematics interviews with each them. The interviews were individual and it was made in the family residence about one hour. The themes of them were about the youth and family disease's impact, what the strategies used by them to cope it and what aspects that contributed to promote or hinder the grieving such attitudes. The research results showed how is important to know some factors there are in the family system structure that contribute in the meaning constructing process of grief experience answered by the family, whose member has got some disability. The grieving process oscillates between loss and restoration coping which was described by the Process Model Dual of Shot and Strobe (1999, 2001a). These factors were raised in four categories: about the disease; the family; attitudes and beliefs; and future plans and life projects were built by the family for them future, emphasizing in each category importants subcategories more that determine of the grieving process was experienced by the searched family. This study reinforces the idea that the family can be the best place for a person to grow up and learn to construct more positive meanings for her life experiences, especially if these are not the expected standards

Bioenergetic Body Therapy, created by Lowen and Pierrakos, has been used since the 1950s to help people express pain, traumatic experience, emotional conflict and pleasure. It defends the idea that the human being is not only their body but also their thoughts, emotions, sensations and actions. This research is a study of mixed methods, making use of a research approach that associates the quantitative and qualitative forms with multiple case studies, in the light of Bowlby's Attachment Theory and Bioenergetic Analysis that descends from the discoveries and theories of Wilhelm Reich and Freud's Psychoanalysis. The objective of this research, therefore, is to investigate the effects of the psychotherapeutic action obtained by means of the Bioenergetic Analysis with bereaved people; to analyze the results of the psychotherapeutic action, considering the factors of protection and the factors of risk present in the grieving process. The participants were eight adults of varying ages who were in bereavement for having lost their beloved ones due to various causes. The participants were divided into two groups: Experimental Group – EG, which took part of 14 sessions of psychotherapy for six months, and the Control Group – CG, which remained on the waitlist for six months. The research instruments employed were: clinical interview (before and after the interventions), the Hogan Grief Reaction Checklist measuring instrument – HGRC (before and after the interventions), exercises and body experiences. Case studies were carried out, articulating the data observed during the body work to the results obtained through the HGRC and the interviews. The results of the Hogan Grief Reaction Checklist measuring instrument – HGRC showed statistically significant improvements in the EG in the six subscales: despair, panic, personal growth, guilt and anger, detachment and disorganization. The CG showed improvements only in personal growth. The results indicate that the effects of the psychotherapeutic action obtained through Bioenergetic Analysis favored the participants of this research in their grieving process
O GC apresentou melhoras apenas no crescimento pessoal.

Abstract:
The present work aims to investigate life losses faced by women who are getting older and their ways to deal with bereavement. Old age is a phase of development marked by multiple important losses that demand a painful psychical elaboration. In despite of usual negative representations and attempts to deny old age, opportunities are opened for new roles, socialization, learning and growing. The objective of this work was to investigate some current aging experiences of the participants, their difficulties, concrete and symbolic deaths and their life projects. The research approach was qualitative. An open question was presented and the interview was conducted taking in account what the participants considered as relevant issues. Four women participated, raging from 53 to 64 years of age. They were engaged on activities of the USP\' s Open School for the Third Age, in the Psychology Institute, São Paulo, Brasil. Outstanding issues in their speeches were categorized and analyzed considering thematic points. The reports showed that the main sources of suffering were about losses of spouses, of work and the demands of taking care of older parents. It was observed that some obstacles to face the losses in old age are the lack of preparation to deal with old age and retirement, the lack of professional support and the solitude. It was clear that this is an important phase of transitions which demands care and attention in order to obtain better quality of life in aging. Spaces to discuss the tosses and the mourning processes in aging have been suggested.

Abstract:
Suicide is a sudden and violent death, which shocks. It may cause outrage, as it causes a gap in those who remained, in relation to the experience of saying goodbye to the one who is loved. The self-inflicted death causes suffering and, thus, the bereaved by suicide is recognized as a survivor. This study had as goal the comprehension of the grieving process of the offspring of the person who committed suicide. Jamison (2010), Alvarez (1999) and Shneidman (1985; 1993) were the main authors who grounded the discussion about suicide. The works of Parkes (1998; 2009), Franco (2002; 2010), Kovács (1992; 2003) and Clark (2001; 2007), the basic sources consulted to the comprehension of the grieving process. It is a research of qualitative nature, having as participants nine (9) offspring of individuals who committed suicide. The ethical principles of secrecy, privacy, confidentiality, no identification of the data of the collaborators and freedom of participation were respected. The testimonies were recorded with the consent of the interviewees and carried out: interview - to collect the testimony, approximately three (3) hours long - and two (2) contacts by e-mail one to send the transcripts of the interviews, and other after analyzing the data, to share with the collaborator the comprehension of the researcher. The units of meaning were extracted according to the phenomenological method (Moustakas, 1994) and understood through the perspective of the Gestalt-Therapy approach. It was observed that for some interviewees, overcoming the lack of a parent brought ambivalences: as alive, they were absent; as dead, they became present. The suicidal act may denounce a family dynamic in which breaking of bonds has already happened, in other words, the stress was experienced before, during and after the suicide. Therefore, suicide was not a triggering factor, but, instead, the process as a whole. When the child survives the suicide of one of its parents, one can have an experience whose suffering causes guilt, anger, resentment, helplessness and abandonment, loneliness, lack of opportunity by not having received lap time, soothing, care, love and guidance. It was considered that, although death is forever, grief is a dynamic process, in which bereaved ones try to manage a diversity of feelings and thoughts: besides the necessity of comprehending death, comes the redefinition of their role in the family. Also noteworthy is the silence and isolation of the deponents. The isolation seems to happen for mixed and not shared feelings not to be mobilized, that threaten the comfort zone so hardly conquered by those who survived. What is silenced is the suffering, the doubt and the stigma. It was identified that parental suicide is a unique experience that allows the person to discover and develop coping strategies in their grieving process

The process of becoming the main caregiver of the renal chronic hemodialysis patient was pursued by means of a qualitative investigation, which was made upon the results got from 8 female, adult participants above 19 years old, who were family bounds to the patients and to who were in charge of taking care of them. The main caregiver remains invisible to the public politics, for there are not any programs that cover such audience in Brazil. Private initiatives try to provide the creation of support groups; however, there are not enough groups to cover such a huge demand for them. The data have been collected by means of a semistructured interview containing questions that were shaped according to the validated version of the Burden Interview scale (SCAZUFCA, 2002) and of the Maslach s Burnout Inventory - Human Services Survey (MASLACH & LEITER, 1997), in a Brazilian validated version (CARLOTTO & CÂMARA, 2007). The analysis of those data was made based on the Attachment Theory by John Bowlby, and it shows that there is a great positive impact (such as daily routine, health, social common family living, job, finance), as well as a subjective impact (mental stress) acting upon the life of the caregiver. Besides, the burnout syndrome might be considered as a helpful diagnosis for the set of symptoms reported by the main caregiver of the renal chronic patient. Further studies are necessary in order to increase the knowledge concerning the burnout syndrome on the caregivers of renal chronic patients, for each disease demands proper, individual responses concerning the care-giving

The present qualitative study aimed at to investigate the meaning-making of the grief process in adulthood, based on the Dual Process Model and Attachment Theory. Three case studies were carried out with women, between the ages of twenty five to fifty one years old, bereaved due to the death of loved ones in a period of time ranging from eleven months to one year and ten months before their participation in this research. The research data also includes the materials generated by semidirected interviews, the Original Romance Test (RO) and History of my Loss Test (HP). The central meanings found here were: I don t understand what happened; I´m responsible for the death; Someone is responsible for the death; The deceased is responsible for the death; I m not responsible for the death; God was responsible for the death; The death was God s punishment; I took the deceased place; The deceased deceived me and left me; I don t have emotional resources to survive to the loss; I must not feel anger; I grew up with the loss; I m strong; I don t know who I am; I want to live; I want to die; I was born after the loss; Having loved the deceased is comforting; The world is caring and trustworthy; The world is not caring and trustworthy; Death was humiliating; God forgave me. Related to these meanings were sense-making of the loss, identity change, transformation concerning the relationship with the deceased and the world and benefit finding, related to feelings, wishes and psychic mechanisms. The meaning construction was related to some factors: family dynamics; personality and attachment style; circumstances of death; kind of relationship with the deceased and social support. Among these factors, those that facilitate or jeopardize the meaning-making process were identified. The meanings reflect the grief process and being aware of them leads to the understanding of grief manifestations (feelings, behaviors, symptoms) and coping, and are related to elaboration processes or grief complication

Palliative care seek quality of life based primarily on prevention and relief of suffering of patients who have life threatening diseases, encompassing the areas of physical, psychosocial and spiritual. Furthermore, extending the post-mortem patient, it offers support the family support in the grieving process. The theme provides discussions of education for death and dying process for health care professionals who are educated mostly geared towards the enhancement of technical knowledge at the expense of a humanist education, which removes the theme of death as the focus of learning. This qualitative study aimed to understand and analyze the training of professionals in relation to dying patient and their perception regarding their contributions to the prevention of complicated grief care unit. The Attachment Theory grounded this research theoretically, providing support for the analysis. Health professionals who integrate palliative care teams voluntarily participated in this research . A questionnaire was used to obtain academic and professional data, besides courses taken. A semi-structured interview allowed us to understand the following topics: the choice of working in palliative care, the strategies used (by oneself and by the care unit) on a daily basis to deal with the issue of the dying process and the perception of its contribution to the prevention of complicated grief of patient and family. The results confirmed that the training of professionals in relation to the dying process is scarce. Moreover, it was observed that health professionals working in palliative care have attachment behaviors, identified as natural in this context, and that ends up to make it harder to realize that those are important contributions to prevent grief from becoming complicated in the care unit

Receiving the diagnosis of a potentially fatal disease represents a crisis for patients and their families, affecting different life domains and promoting a re-signification of belief systems that are shaken by the threat to the continuity of life. Palliative care emerged as an alternative to the traditional curative model of health, aiming at relieving physical pain and giving comfort to emotional, social and spiritual suffering. This new approach ratified the inclusion of spirituality in the concept of health established by the World Health Organization, indicating the need to consider the spiritual dimension in view of the proximity of death. As a new paradigm of caring, palliative care also aims at encompassing anticipatory mourning experienced by the care unit during patient’s illness, as well as monitoring the mourning family after its relative’s death. The present study utilized a qualitative methodology in order to apprehend the meaning of spirituality assigned by the family member whose a loved one was in a end-of-life process. A collective case study was carried, with the participation of six family members attending a hospice in palliative care, and the investigation was done through field diary and semi-structured interviews. Data were analyzed through content analysis according to Bardin (2011) and the following thematic categories were found: expressions of anticipatory mourning, perceptions on/meanings of spirituality, meanings of mourning, protective factors, risk factors. The results suggest that spirituality is a support for those who are on the verge of losing a loved one and should not be neglected by health professionals. It has proved to be an important protection factor for the experience of mourning processes

Abstract:
This research into Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) presents the results of 60 first-person psycho-phenomenological interviews with 30 New Zealand women. The participants were recruited from the Canterbury and Wellington regions, 10 had recovered. Taking a non-dual, non-reductive embodied approach, the phenomenological data was analysed semiotically, using a graph-theoretical cluster analysis to elucidate the large number of resulting categories, and interpreted through the enactive approach to cognitive science. The initial result of the analysis is a comprehensive exploration of the experience of CFS which develops subject-specific categories of experience and explores the relation of the illness to universal categories of experience, including self, ‘energy’, action, and being-able-to-do. Transformations of the self surrounding being-able-to-do and not-being-able-to-do were shown to elucidate the illness process. It is proposed that the concept ‘energy’ in the participants’ discourse is equivalent to the Mahayana Buddhist concept of ‘contact’. This characterises CFS as a breakdown of contact. Narrative content from the recovered interviewees reflects a reestablishment of contact. The hypothesis that CFS is a disorder of action is investigated in detail. A general model for the phenomenology and functional architecture of action is proposed. This model is a recursive loop involving felt meaning, contact, action, and perception and appears to be phenomenologically supported. It is proposed that the CFS illness process is a dynamical decompensation of the subject’s action loop caused by a breakdown in the process of contact. On this basis, a new interpretation of neurological findings in relation to CFS becomes possible. A neurological phenomenon that correlates with the illness and involves a brain region that has a similar structure to the action model’s recursive loop is identified in previous research results and compared with the action model and the results of this research. This correspondence may identify the brain regions involved in the illness process, which may provide an objective diagnostic test for the condition and approaches to treatment. The implications of this model for cognitive science and CFS should be investigated through neurophenomenological research since the model stands to shed considerable light on the nature of consciousness, contact and agency. Phenomenologically based treatments are proposed, along with suggestions for future research on CFS. The research may clarify the diagnostic criteria for CFS and guide management and treatment programmes, particularly multidimensional and interdisciplinary approaches. Category theory is proposed as a foundation for a mathematisation of phenomenology.

The Change Process of Unexpected Bereavement Family through Grief Counseling Shu-Wen Huang Abstract Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore how the processes of unexpected family bereavement are changed through grief counseling. Method: A family received six grief counseling sessions. A husband had died from the sudden onset of a disease, and his wife and adult daughter participated in the study. The wife and daughter were interviewed before the counseling sessions, after each counseling session, and 5 months after the final counseling session. The counselor was also interviewed after each counseling session. All data were recorded, transcribed, and analyzed in a systemic framework. Results: This study drew four conclusions: (1) The family grief counseling could intervene in the family member’s interactive grief themes here and now, and with some types of intervention influenced by Chinese culture ; (2) The family change process was affected by family structure, family roles, family relationship, and family grief expression; (3) The divorced daughter fermented conflicts, and she was treated as a scapegoat by the family; however, after counseling, the daughter no longer felt this way; and (4) The wife and daughter, despite having different grief themes, made new meaning with their loss together. The research discussed the application of family grief counseling in Taiwan and suggestions offered for counseling practitioners and further research. This article explores the grief and adjustment process of parents facing sudden death of the adult children. This study adopted the research approach of hermeneutic pheno- menology with semi-structural questionnaires interviews to collect data, and thematic analysis method was used to generalize the collected data. The findings could be concluded as follows:Firstly, it was difficult for parents, showing strong emotional responses, to accept the sudden death of their children, at the same time resulting in difficulties in adapting to life and in conflicts in family relations. Secondly, parents' self-evaluation of parenting ability and the relationship quality prior to children’s death had impacts on adjustment process. However, once parents accepted the fact of children’s death and the grief of loss, it would help them to re-establish life and its meaning, and to turn their children into spiritual connections to find the meaning and hope for their keep living.Thirdly, personal internal resources and external supports are helpful to the adjustment process. Finally, suggestions were made to the professional helpers and future researchers, based on the research findings.
