Abstract:

This paper focuses on the close correlation between drawing and writing in the architecture of Vittorio Gregotti, in order to understand how both constitute symbiotic tools for his praxis, and showing how the practice of architecture and theoretical thought in Gregotti are to be understood as one. Drawing and writing constitute inscriptions of his ideas, a calligraphy that expresses his understanding of architecture as a conceptual reality, regardless of its later physical construction. It is therefore essential to comprehend how theoretical thought in Gregotti is materialized in the architectural project. For this purpose, based on Gregotti’s drawings and writings, this paper aims to underline the deep importance of drawing and writing as complementary processes related to the symbiotic connection between theory and praxis in his work. Considering both tools as a mechanism for visualizing the author’s ideas, we intend to prove that drawing and writing are close components of his expression and the development of a thought that, in the process of being materialized, acquires physical shape, strength and coherence, becoming perceived by others.

Abstract:

In the post-Second World War period, Italian architects opened up a debate on the role of history and time in architectural discourse that resulted in multiple interpretations of historical time in their work. Vittorio Gregotti, one of the main protagonists of the discussion, offered an interpretation of time based on an assemblage of intellectual tendencies, from phenomenology to structuralism and the history of the longue durée. This paper traces ideas that Gregotti developed in his less known and as-yet un-translated texts such as Il territiorio dell’architettura from 1966 as well as in his project for the University of Calabria from 1972. In these, Gregotti makes an original contribution to the problem of history in relationship to urban and natural environments.

Abstract:

La obra de Vittorio Gregotti (1927-2020, t. 1952) tenía ya un papel destacado en la historia de la arquitectura, no solamente italiana, antes de su fallecimiento este mismo año como una de las numerosas víctimas de la pandemia global. Publicado en la colección Materiali de la editorial Feltrinelli, que albergaba escritos de especialistas para el gran público, el libro en su conjunto no indaga en el territorio como nueva escala de trabajo de la arquitectura, un argumento al que solamente dedica una de las cuatro partes. Por el contrario, se concentra en la búsqueda del territorio de la arquitectura entendido como su espacio y su papel en la cultura moderna, aceptando, de partida, su conexión con la sociedad, las artes y la literatura y reconociendo la condición del arquitecto como un intelectual más que materializa sus propuestas a través del proyecto de arquitectura. Sin ánimo de actualizar anacrónicamente el libro, sino con la intención de historiarlo en su propia época, esta recensión histórica de un texto vivo, a la vez que rinde el debido homenaje, muestra que la cuestión que el libro planteaba y la curiosidad intelectual que movía a Gregotti a mediados de los sesenta están aún plenamente vigentes.

Abstract:

Na distância de quase 40 anos, o discurso do arquiteto italiano Vittorio Gregotti ainda parece muito atual. Seu texto “O Território da Arquitetura” (1966) é precursor de vários estudos e antecipou muitos temas que seguem em discussão, em especial a mudança da escala do objeto para a escala geográfica do território, o que representa uma evolução coerente em questões acerca de valores ambientais, além de uma série de projetos, que consubstanciaram uma alternativa possível em teoria e prática do utopismo megaestrutural e planejamento territorial. As reflexões adensaram-se em relação à complexidade ambiental, à escala de intervenção e sua relação com a paisagem, bem como a relação entre tipologia de edifícios e morfologia urbana. Gregotti, portanto, expandiu o campo de atuação da arquitetura, abordando o tema da relação desta com a paisagem, como geografia e história. Para ele, os pontos de interesse são o território e a cidade, sua morfologia e as razões de sua formação na história.

The city is central to many discourses on architecture and to the making of architecture in general. This thesis explores the interrelation between architecture and the city in Europe . Through analysis of recent projects I examine and evaluate the role of the city in the making of architecture. The city is a collective artifact. In the city, the architect is confronted with present-day social , economic and cultural realities, with patterns of social and productive organization of the past and with the institution of architecture and the history of that institution. The commitment of the architect to the city, makes him an active participant in "the world". In the city the architect constructs a reality in confrontation with reality at large. The city constitutes a medium, a middle ground between the architect and reality. Through the analysis of works by Koolhaas, Van Eyck and Gregotti some of the issues described above are illuminated. For each of these architects I analyze an urban project and an architectural project. In the first analysis I evaluate the contribution of the architect to the continuous remaking of the city. In the second analysis I examine the relation of the architectural project with the city and the definition of "architecture" in relation to the city.

Abstract:

La tesi di ricerca ha come obbiettivo quello di analizzare il ruolo del progettista nella trasformazione della società contemporanea. Tale programma è svolto a partire dal confronto con una delle esperienze più interessanti di riflessione sulla teoria dell’architettura occorse nel recente passato: la rivista “Casabella” durante la direzione di Vittorio Gregotti (1982-1996). Due ragioni principali hanno guidato tale scelta. Innanzitutto per il merito dei contenuti: la fortuna critica delle riflessioni disciplinari sviluppate al suo interno è sintomatica della loro ricchezza e dell’alto profilo che il dibattito su “Casabella” ha raggiunto in quegli anni. In secondo luogo per il metodo: la rivista si è sempre presentata al pubblico con l’ambizione di essere un “luogo” costitutivo di uno sguardo critico sulla realtà. Il lavoro di ricerca storico-critico si confronta dunque con un progetto culturale specifico e definito – anche nei suoi confini temporali e materiali – provando a misurarne temi e confini, e sviluppando a partire da questo, una riflessione sulla teoria dell’architettura oggi. Il progetto culturale di "Casabella" è stato un momento importante e significativo nella riflessione recente sulla teoria dell'architettura, ma non ne segna la fine. Alcuni caratteri, alcune inattualità di fronte ai cambiamenti che sono occorsi negli ultimi trent'anni, lo rendono per certi versi irripetibile, ma ci consentono anche di guardare ai suoi limiti e ai punti di forza. La chiarezza di una visione sintetica, l'appello alla realtà, l'attenzione al passaggio dalla teoria al progetto e dal progetto al cantiere, la definizione di un ambito specifico disciplinare, sono tutti elementi da cui è possibile sviluppare nuove riflessioni. Poiché l'esempio di "Casabella", il suo successo non solo editoriale ma anche culturale, ci aiutano a risolvere il punto centrale da cui ogni ricerca sulla teoria dell'architettura tenta di muovere i suoi primi difficoltosi passi: la definizione della sua necessità.

Il presente lavoro si propone di incoraggiare una riflessione sulla possibilità o meno di tradurre un brano musicale. Si partirà dal concetto generale di traduzione nella forma canzone per arrivare ad un’analisi più dettagliata di alcuni brani tratti da “De Gregori canta Bob Dylan - Amore e furto”, album in cui Francesco De Gregori traduce e reinterpreta in italiano undici canzoni di Bob Dylan. Tale album è il risultato di un lungo lavoro e di una grande passione e ha saputo raccontare il mondo complesso di un cantautore come Bob Dylan in un’altra lingua. Per questo motivo, si presenta come prova del fatto che l’idea di tradurre un brano musicale non è (sempre) una perversione né un’utopia: la canzone può essere tradotta, purché vengano rispettati i vincoli che la governano e purché venga considerata e avvicinata come unità unica e inscindibile di testo e musica.

A História da Arquitetura e a Preservação de Bens Culturais entendidas como campos disciplinares autônomos, providos de referenciais teórico-metodológicos próprios, suscitaram a investigação sobre os seus possíveis entrelaçamentos, a partir de uma perspectiva que incorpora o instrumental e as noções operativas no campo da preservação. As múltiplas temporalidades da obra arquitetônica, identificadas pelo estudo de suas transformações ao longo do tempo, a indagação ao objeto em sua consistência física à luz da cultura material e a utilização de suportes documentais diversos, resultam em um material historiográfico de interesse, possibilitando um novo olhar sobre a produção arquitetônica. Através desses pressupostos, analisamos obras de Gregori Warchavchik tombadas ou preteridas em processos de tombamento, propondo uma reconstituição de suas trajetórias e utilizando-as como estratégia para pensar em que medida as interpretações oriundas da historiografia da arquitetura moderna vêm orientando as práticas de salvaguarda e conservação do patrimônio moderno, ou, falando de outro modo, como fundamentam critérios de seleção e de intervenção sobre o moderno.
The Architectural History and the Preservation of cultural heritage understood as autonomous fields, provided by its own theories and methodologies, raised the investigation study about its possible entanglements, from a perspective that incorporates the instrumental and the operational preservation concepts. The multiple temporalities of the architectural work, identified by the study of its changes over time, the investigation of the object under the light of the material culture and the use of several document sets, result as a historiographical subject of interest, allowing a new point of view over the architectural production. These are the starting points of a Gregori Warchavchik\'s architecture analysis. The research selected listed and excluded works from listing, doing a reconstitution of their trajectories and use them as a strategy to think about how the historiographical interpretations have been guiding the conservation and protective practices, or, the intervention\'s criteria on the modern.

Abstract:

In this paper we aim at presenting the digitalization process done on the archaeological site at San Gregori a villa a mare from the Early Roman Empire found in Burriana, a Mediterranean coastal village of Spain. The archaeological work is part of a joint research project carried out by Universitat Jaume I in Castellón and the Archaeological Museum of Burriana. To date, the residential part of the villa in the northeast corner of the settlement has been excavated; this area is situated about 100 meters from the waterfront. The villa has been dated around the change of Era and IV c. A. D.; however, some Roman republican and Iberian materials have also been registered. The last phase of the work consisted on the development of a 3D laser scanning to complete the graphical work for the archaeological documentation of the site.

Abstract:

Archaeologists and conservators have different problems in inspecting metal-type pieces extracted from the archaeological sites, such as their large number and the complexity of the materials and their shapes. Usually, all of the pieces are hidden under the oxidation layers. From this point of view, a non-destructive analysis technique such as digital radiography imaging can detect and discriminate one piece from another. Also, the shape of pieces, state of the metal core, and assessment of its handling can be investigated. But there are still some problems with metal-type parts with a certain thickness. The generated X-ray image can be very foggy and without adequate quality. This will prevent the method to discriminate small details about the shape, hidden structures, and the real level of oxidation, and the presence of cracks. A solution for improving the quality of the x-ray image can be implementing a digital imaging processing algorithm for enhancing the quality of the radiographs. In this study, the metal parts are carried out from two important Iberian-Roman sites located on the coast of the municipality of Burriana (Castellón), i.e. Sant Gregori and Torre d'Onda. This set of pieces belong to the archaeological museum of Burriana, Spain, and are investigated by X-ray imaging. This study has used the “Fast 2D Gaussian convolution first-order infinite impulsive response” (IIR) to extract the maximum detail for better interpretation of the image. A multidisciplinary perspective has been desired for this study.

Abstract:

La Integralidad ha jugado un papel protagónico en la educación superior, ya que los estudiantes valoran significativamente el aporte que la universidad hace en sus vidas, siempre y cuando sea inspirado en ellos, la universidad debe hacer estudios que le permita conocer el contexto, las habilidades de los estudiantes y como se relacionan con sus resultados. Se usa la recolección de datos para probar hipótesis, con base en la medición numérica y el análisis estadístico, para establecer patrones de comportamiento y probar teorías. Al final, con los estudios cuantitativos se pretende explicar y predecir los fenómenos investigados, buscando regularidades y relaciones causales entre elementos. Esto significa que la meta principal es la construcción y demostración de teorías (que explican y predicen). Del mismo modo, utiliza la recolección y el análisis de datos para contestar preguntas de investigación establecidas previamente y confía en la medición numérica, el conteo y frecuentemente en el uso de estadísticas para establecer con exactitud, patrones de comportamiento en una población. Se estableció la aplicación del Instrumento Hábitos de Estudio de Pozar. El diseño de la investigación es correlacional. Para determinar el grado de cultura impartida por la universidad, es necesario identificar las estrategias y el impacto en la permanecía y compromiso de los estudiantes con la institución y con su propia formación, para ello se realizará la correlación de dos variables de aprendizaje y el rendimiento académico junto con el pensamiento tríadico de Waldemar de Gregori para determinar el aporte investigativo y el tipo de mente que predomina en los estudiantes del programa de Ingeniería de Sistemas. Como resultados, en la medición 1, usando la herramienta de Pozar, se evidenció que los estudiantes de Ingeniería de Sistemas cuentan con buenas condiciones ambientales (I) para el estudio, pero con tendencia normal en lo que se refiere a las características planificación del estudio (II), utilización de materiales (III), asimilación de contenidos (IV) y un grado de sinceridad (V) normal a la hora de dar respuesta a cada uno de los 90 items de la prueba. El promedio del rendimiento académico para esta primera medición se fijó en 3.2. En la medición 2, se aprecia poca diferencia en el cambio de hábitos de los estudiantes, se disminuye el nivel de condiciones ambientales (I) y se eleva el grado de sinceridad pasando de 4 a 5 pero se mantiene dentro de la escala normal. El promedio para la segunda medición se fijó en 3.3 lo que no representa un cambio significativo comparado con la medición n°1 de 3.2. Como conclusión, no se correlacionaron los hábitos de estudio y el rendimiento académico, lo que significa que para tener buen rendimiento no necesariamente se debe tener buenos hábitos de estudio, ratificando lo afirmado por diferentes investigaciones.
