Abstract:
A great deal of research has examined students' preferred learning styles as measured by Kolb's 1985 Learning Style Inventory, but little effort has been made to test the covariate effects of other individual psychological facets, such as creativity, on preferred learning style. For a sample of 84 college undergraduates, the relationship between learning style and Raudsepp's problem-solving creativity scale was observed not to covary.

Abstract:
Style is a unique feature of each author, which implies that each artist has his own style - the ideological direction of his work, the artistic means used in the text, lexical and phraseological elements and specific components related to the artistic form. Re-creation of each author's own "language", ie style, is one of the important conditions of literary translation and requires great artistic skill from the translator. The stylistic diversity, the charm of form and meaning is a great treasure of every national literature. Were it not for the variety of styles and colors, there would have been a single stylistic ambiguity, ambiguity, ambiguity. Such a situation would have led to intellectual bluntness, artistic poverty.

Abstract:
With the focus of language teaching from teachers to students, the personal factors of language learners have become the focus of research. In 1964, Kagan and his colleagues proposed a reflective-impulsive cognitive style(R-I), a pair of opposing cognitive style that can be measured by Matching Familiar Figures Test (MFFT). Kagan believes that in dealing with cognitive tasks, holding a slow but accurate style is a reflective cognitive style, and holding a fast but inaccurate style is impulsive cognitive style. What’s more, different cognitive styles of learners affect language learning. For English learners, oral English is connected with the output of language, and students' oral ability is an important part of pragmatic competence. The researcher uses MFFT20, combined with observation, interview, oral test to evaluate the oral performance and ability of 80 high school students in a middle school in Chongqing. By analyzing the correlation between the reflective-impulsive cognitive styles and oral English ability, the following results are obtained. First, reflective cognitive style and impulsive cognitive style account for the same proportion of students. And reflective-impulsive cognitive style affects the oral ability of English learners. Second, students with different cognitive styles have great differences in oral performance. Third, generally speaking, English learners with reflective cognitive style perform better in oral accuracy than English students with impulsive cognitive style, while English learners with impulsive cognitive style perform better in oral fluency than students with reflective style.

Abstract:
Sanmao was formerly known as Chen Ping, a contemporary Taiwanese female writer and traveler. Sanmao is one of the few contemporary prose writers. Although many scholars believe that her works have some novel elements, a kind of work is accepted by readers with what kind of style, it has a substantial impact on what kind of style, so Sanmao is placed into the ranks of prose writers. For Sanmao, writing constitutes her unique life form. Sanmao's literary creation style has a very high literary research value, which is closely related to her innate personality, as well as her understanding of life itself and her unique literary interpretation skills. To be precise, Sanmao does not have the serious creative mission of a pure literary writer, nor will it deliberately pursue the social effectiveness of her works. For her, innovation is neither the great cause of the country, nor the masterpiece of the past dynasties. This article explores Sanmao's literary creation style through the three writing characteristics of writing freely, “depending on benevolence, swim in art” and integration of “Inovel” creation skills.

Abstract:
Since leaders can have a strong influence on the employees’ behavior, various approaches have been designed to determine the most effective style of leadership. As a field of study, the review of past research reveals that investigating leadership styles has been mainly focused on large businesses. Despite the great importance of leadership to SMEs, not many studies attempted to explore the leadership style embraced by SMEs, especially within the Macedonian context. The purpose of this study is to explore the presence of different leadership styles (autocratic, democratic and laissez-faire) in Macedonian SME. Moreover, in view of the main research objective, several demographic variables were examined, such as gender, age and working experience as to their relevance for the dominant leadership style, with a special focus on managers of small and medium sized businesses from the textile industry. Using a Leadership Style Questionnaire, the research measured different leadership styles in addition to collecting in-depth demographic data on each of the respondents. The research results have indicated that the democratic leadership is the dominant style of Macedonian textile SMEs.

Full text
Abstract:
Since the 1980s, British-style brass bands - community ensembles modeled after the all-brass and percussion bands of Great Britain - have enjoyed a modest regeneration in the United States. During this same period, as many as 23 colleges and universities in the U.S. have founded their own curricular or extra-curricular brass band. The purpose of this research study was: to discover which schools sponsor a brass band currently; to discover which schools formerly sponsored a brass band but have since discontinued it; to describe the operational practices of collegiate brass bands in the U.S.; and to determine what collegiate brass band conductors perceive to be the challenges and benefits of brass band in the curriculum. Data for the study were collected between February, 2015 and February, 2016 using four custom survey instruments distributed to conductors of college and university brass bands. The results showed that 11 American collegiate institutions were sponsoring a brass band during the period of data collection. Additional findings included descriptions of the operations of collegiate brass bands, such as availability of credit, rehearsal time, and instrumentation. Results also included the conductors' reported perceptions that both challenges and benefits are inherent in student brass band participation, and that brass band is a positive experience for students. An additional 3 community-based brass bands, not sponsored by but located near a college or university, were found to include collegiate students among their player personnel. A total of 9 schools formerly sponsoring brass bands were found to have discontinued their program. A repertoire analysis of 733 titles of compositions performed by both active and formerly active brass bands revealed that bands performed original works for brass band nearly as often as transcribed or arranged works.

Full text
Abstract:
David Baker (b. 1931) is an educator, composer, and jazz legend. He has composed at least fifteen works that include the clarinet. Baker’s Clarinet Sonata (1989) has become a standard of clarinet repertoire and a popular recital inclusion. His chamber work Heritage: A Tribute to Great Clarinetists (1996) interweaves solo transcriptions of five jazz clarinetists. The compositional style of Baker’s clarinet works frequently links jazz and classical idioms. The two works discussed in this document are excellent examples for classically trained musicians who would like to increase their ability and experience in interpreting jazz styles. The purpose of this document is: (1) to provide background, style, and performance considerations for Baker’s Clarinet Sonata and Heritage: A Tribute for Great Clarinetists, for Clarinet, Violin, Piano and Double Bass; (2) based on these style elements, to provide suggestions for interpreting jazz-style works for classically trained clarinetists; and (3) to archive Baker’s published and unpublished clarinet compositions. Appendices include transcripts of interviews with David Baker and other experts in this field (James Campbell, Rosana Eckert, Mike Steinel and Steven Harlos).

Abstract:
This study presents findings on the financial management practices and degrees of conflict of couples in great marriages. Qualitative data from a national sample of couples in great marriages were collected using a 31-page questionnaire. Of the 81 couples who responded, 40 fit the criteria for this study in that they discussed their level of agreement about financial issues in marriage. Their responses were coded to discover which financial topics are pervasive and whether or not couples agreed over these topics. Responses about conflict were also analyzed to determine the degree of agreement between spouses in different categories. Findings from this research suggest that even couples in great marriages disagree over different financial topics to varying degrees of agreement. Implications of the research are also discussed.

Abstract:
This thesis focuses on the British music scene in the 1960s. Popular music was one of the main manifestations of consumerism and influenced the behavior of most young people. The aim of the thesis is to explain the extent in which popular music played a role in the establishment of a consumer society and, above all, the impact caused by interpreters and music groups on the lifestyle of their listeners and audiences. The thesis also examines how the British music developed in the Sixties and how it was characterized. The thesis is based on the assumption that the 1960s' is a key decade in the postwar history of modern society, a time when fundamental changes occurred in the value systems of most Western societies, notably the British. New generations of young people associated with economic prosperity surfaced at that time, fostering the development of the phenomenon of consumer society, thus changing people's lifestyles. The first part of the thesis is dedicated to economic and social assumptions of the development of the consumer society. The second part of the thesis addresses the social structure of the British society, focusing on the youth - arguably, the social extract that was most appealed by popular music. The core part of the thesis analyses the British music scene in the 1960s, with focus on the music groups and also the music industry and its impal on the lifestyle of youth.

Abstract:
The vast extension of the Habsburg Empire, as well as its heterogeneous cultural and linguistic composition, were both the causes of its richness and demise. This gave way to a debate on the specific traits of Austrian literature, which in 1963 was enriched by Claudio Magris’ degree thesis, published under the title Il mito absburgico nella letteratura austriaca moderna. Starting from the assumptions of a Lukacian-style historicist critique, the book ended up offering a fascinating evocation of the cultural world of great Austria. Together with his subsequent Germanic and non-fiction works (Lontano da dove, L’anello di Clarisse, Danubio), this debut book forms a "Central European tetralogy".

Abstract:
A good deal of the most valuable current work in stylistics concerns political topics. However, politics is not a focus of Style in Narrative. Hogan therefore devotes this brief afterword to suggesting that the book’s approach to stylistic analysis may potentially enrich political analysis. Specifically, recalling Roman Jakobson’s famous analysis of the Dwight Eisenhower campaign slogan, “I Like Ike,” Hogan considers the levels of story, plot, and narration in Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again,” in part by contrast with Hillary Clinton’s “I’m With Her.” Contrary to what one would expect from Trump’s policies, the slogan shows considerable subtlety, which can be identified and explained by careful, stylistic analysis.

Abstract:
The life-style differences among societies are highly related to the quality level of created culture. Developed Western civilizations has created a high-level culture depending on rational thinking and qualified knowledge. This high-level culture is the back-bone of Western civilizations; and entrepreneurial activities are one of the most effective social behavior style of this culture. The recent and paced cultural changes in societies which have not succeeded in development and modernization created an unqualified postmodern culture in these societies. The dominant behavior styles of postmodern culture are behavioral discrepancies and a common hypocrisy. Postmodern culture actually inhibits entrepreneurship behavior. In this context, Y-Generation, which is known as the after September 12 disturbance generation in Turkey, has great unconformity about entrepreneurship. Y-Generation, while pretending to support entrepreneurship in expression and image, fail in action.

Abstract:
Paraphrase generation is of great importance to many downstream tasks in natural language processing. Recent efforts have focused on generating paraphrases in specific syntactic forms, which, generally, heavily relies on manually annotated paraphrase data that is not easily available for many languages and domains. In this paper, we propose a novel end-to-end framework to leverage existing large-scale bilingual parallel corpora to generate paraphrases under the control of syntactic exemplars. In order to train one model over the two languages of parallel corpora, we embed sentences of them into the same content and style spaces with shared content and style encoders using cross-lingual word embeddings. We propose an adversarial discriminator to disentangle the content and style space, and employ a latent variable to model the syntactic style of a given exemplar in order to guide the two decoders for generation. Additionally, we introduce cycle and masking learning schemes to efficiently train the model. Experiments and analyses demonstrate that the proposed model trained only on bilingual parallel data is capable of generating diverse paraphrases with desirable syntactic styles. Fine-tuning the trained model on a small paraphrase corpus makes it substantially outperform state-of-the-art paraphrase generation models trained on a larger paraphrase dataset.

Abstract:
The icon is an important part of the user interface, and they are a carrier between the user and the interface. In the process of icon design, designers need to take into account both its versatility and uniqueness, and an excellent icon is a perfect blend of function and aesthetics. In recent years, with the great success of generative adversarial networks in computer vision, it has become possible to assist designers in icon creation with the help of artificial intelligence technology. In this study, we constructed icon datasets containing 40,000 samples and improved the structure and loss function based on the MUINT to finally achieve the style conversion task between different styles of icons. The research results show that the improved model can effectively improve the quality and diversity of generated icons. Meanwhile, a questionnaire survey of 34 people with icon design experience proves that our research results can assist designers to a certain extent in the related work. This study can be used as a basis for the intersection of deep generative model and icon design, and we conclude the paper with suggestions and prospects for future work.

Abstract:
The bearing parameters, which dominate the dynamic behavior of the rotary machine, should be optimized so that the machine can successfully pass through the critical speed and stably run at the operating speed. However, the parametric optimization usually needs complicated numerical calculation and a great deal of experimentation, especially for the high-speed vertical machine studied here, the dynamic behavior of which is even more sensitive to the parameters. Whereas, the new-style rotor is of similar structure with the old-style rotor. The difference between the two types of rotors is that the new-style rotor’s length and diameter are 1.3 times of the old-style rotor. So it is feasible that the parametric optimization of new-style bearings is carried out by the similarity principle. The similarity principle is that the ratio between the new-style rotor’s whirl energy with the old-style rotor’s equals the ratio between the new-style rotor’s dissipation energy imposed by the bottom bearing with the old-style rotor’s when they run at the operating speed. The parametric optimization involved in this paper only needs simple numerical operation and a little experimentation and makes the new-style bearing parameters design much faster and cheaper than the old-style.
