Kim, Nam-See. "Grammatologie der Schrift des Fremden." Doctoral thesis, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Philosophische Fakultät III, 2009. http://dx.doi.org/10.18452/15929.
Full textThis dissertation deals with the Western views of Chinese characters. In Western discourses the Chinese written language has generally been viewed as a naturalistic representation of things, close to visual images (pictographs) or as a means of conveying ideas (ideographs), unrelated to spoken language. The fact that they reproduce spoken language like all other writing systems has been underexplored. Under this assumption, cultural theories have defined Chinese or Asian cultures as essentially distinct from European cultures. However, the language-independency and concreteness of Chinese script provides reason for revaluation of those views that consider the Chinese (or Asian) ways of thinking as an alternative to Western thought: that which ultimately arises from the negative judgments that those with visual concreteness are farther detached from objects, and are, therefore, unable to exercise abstract thinking. Through a critical analysis of the history of discourses of Chinese writings, this work address the following questions: Whence comes the ‘myth ''of the Chinese character, which, in turn, reinforces the Western views of Asia: why it remains so persistent in Western views as observed in contemporary cultural theories; how the ambivalent appreciation of Chinese or East Asian-culture resulted from the same ideographic view of the Chinese written language.
Torrens, Antoine. "« Diverse escriture d’un mesme nom » : translittérer les écritures orientales en alphabet latin dans la France de l’humanisme." Thesis, Sorbonne université, 2018. http://www.theses.fr/2018SORUL009.
Full textTransliteration is the transcription sign by sign from a writing system to another. Being a matter of history, linguistics and study of writing systems – or grammatology – this work aims at identifying the issues of the quite recent notion of transliteration, as applied to a period when it was not formulated in this way, the French Renaissance. It delineates the respective fields of transliteration, transcription, translation and code-switching. This thesis takes as a starting point the recent findings on Hebrew in the French humanism and makes use of the advances in archeology and in cognitive science regarding the history of the Latin alphabet and its understanding by its users. It relies on a corpus of alphabets, grammars and bibles of the 16th century to link the diachronic and diatopic dimensions of writing systems. It shows that conversion of scripts as a practice relies less on the specific features of the source script than on a considerable extension of the target script

Full textThe peculiarity called “dissimilation graphique” is recurrent in Egyptian writing systems, particularly during Old Kingdom (Dyn. III-VI, ca. 2700-2150 BC). At this time, plurality (grammatical and lexical) is indicated by the threefold of semograms, signs that have a semantic value and allow to understand the lexemes. Thus, if ideograms and classifiers are ordinary reproduced three times identically, “dissimilation” refers to occurrences where these three signs are different. For example, if bAk.w, “servants”, is usually followed by three men, in case of dissimilation, one of them can be replaced by a woman. In the same way, if mHy.t, “fish”, habitually takes three identical fish, a dissimilated version will show three different species. This Ph.D Thesis aims to analyse in a systematic way the process of “dissimilation graphique”, mostly found in hieroglyphic inscriptions of royal and private tombs, but also in some hieratic documents. Through this study, the supposed reasons of dissimilation are exposed. Consequently, Egyptian classification is newly enlightened. Moreover, in examining a great number of Old Kingdom texts, new analysis of the signs functions are proposed to clarify some unclear elements of egyptological Linguistics

Full textThe first part of the thesis presents the theorical concepts of ancient chinese grammatology and a critical investigation into traaditionnal and modern approaches to ancient chinese script. The second part proposes a number of systematic grammatological applications for the corpus of the three inscribed bronze vessels of zhongshan these application will be defined by two leading questions : a) what are the main principles of the development of chineses writing during the warring-states period?. B) what is the signification of standarddized writing begining under the qin dynasty ? the third part gives the references for the history of the lord state of zhongshan, a short lexicometrical analysis, and an annotated translation of the three inscriptions. The work leads to the elaboration of a typology of ancient chinese characters and its systematic application to paleographical documents. Our typology is linked with what can be restitued of the zhou qin phonoligal system. Lastly, it provides a comparison of zhongshan writing with the normalised script as opreserved in the shuowenjiezi. This comparison shows that the classical script has barrowed more from the eastern zhou local writing systems than one has ggenerally granted. A final index gives the meanings, equivalences and all occurrences of each character of the corpus

Full textThe aim of this work is twofold. First, we focus on the projects of ontogenesis and grammatology, formulated by G. Simondon in 1958 and by J. Derrida in 1967, we situate them in their theoretical context and we evaluate their metaphysical and epistemological stakes (we try to show that a new way of thinking is appearing, after the end of Western metaphysics) ;Secondly, we focus on the theoretical consequences of Simondon’s and Derrida’s thought, particularly on the questions of human and technics (we try to show that they both open a way beyond humanism and reductionism by rethinking the links between life, technics and mind or spirit). We finally try to revive Simondon’s and Derrida’s reflections in the contemporary technical context, in order to open new perspectives on the anthropological and social consequences of the current digital transformations

Full textThe thesis presents the contributions of L. Meigret (1550 - ca 1558) in the history of linguistic theories, both in terms of his general vision, as well as concerning his phonological, morphological and syntactical analyzes. It relies on the thematico-quantitative approach, in focusing on recurring themes under the pen of the grammarian, such as portrait (portraiture), bâtiment (building), superfluité (superfluity), usurpation, gouvernement (government), détermination, démonstration, résolution, and so on. Before two main parts, Chapter I examines the connotations of bâtiment, which reveal the influence of the perspective in painting during the grammatisation of French. In dealing with problème de lettres (problem of letters), the first part proposes to consider Meigret as a grammairien-typographe (grammarian-typographer), his alphabet as a linguistic engineering, and his quest for a phonographic writing as the culmination of a new grammatological paradigm at the Renaissance. Under the name of études de syntaxe (studies of syntax), the second part sets out to reveal its quality as a syntactician, in his dependent descriptions of language phenomena at all levels, in his pragma-semantic and pronominal researches, especially around the article, and in its innovations in metalinguistic tools, such as termes localisateurs (terms of locating) and la technique de résolution (the technique of resolution)
Zangeneh, Hakhamanesh. "La structuration de la phénoménalité : temporalité, trace, événement (Heidegger, Derrida, Nancy)." Thesis, Paris Est, 2009. http://www.theses.fr/2009PEST0008.
Full textThis thesis begins with Heidegger’s theory of temporality in part II of Sein und Zeit. While reading it as a novel form of transcendental philosophy in the strict sense, we show, contrary to commentators, that it describes multiple temporalisations and thus multiple notions of presence. The most original notion of presence, however, contains an a-phenomenal and relational core, and this amounts to describing a structuration of phenomenality. In a next step, we examine early texts of Jacques Derrida where, in analyzing Husserl and Heidegger, the author first sets out the idea of a metaphysics of presence. Rather than reading these texts as a critique of Heidegger we show how they can be understood as an extension of our Heideggerian problematic: the notion of différance and of the written trace supply us with a particularly linguistic and writerly description of the archaic structuration. This also allows us both to respond in a novel fashion to open questions immanent to Sein und Zeit, and to suggest a previously unseen distinction running through Derridean deconstruction. The grammatological moment in deconstruction is a response to the question of temporality. Finally, we show how the recently popular discussion of the event can also be read as a thematisation of phenomenality, and specifically in the theory of Jean-Luc Nancy, how such a theory can avoid the facile metaphysical concepts of presence. By supplementing Nancy’s distensive event with a series of explicit historical glosses we show how it sketches out an original event-conception quite compatible with our interest in the structuring of phenomenality
