Abstract:
This study attempted to find out how mobile technologies could be used to implement Web 2.0 based service delivery to graduate students based in the Graduate School of the University for Development Studies (UDS) Library. A 23 item questionnaire was administered to a sample of 155 participants who were selected by means of simple random sampling. A total of 119 questionnaires were retrieved and found to be adequate for analysis and interpretation. The collected data was analyzed and interpreted using the SPSS package and Microsoft Excel and was presented in the form of text and graphs. Findings indicated that graduate students overall had very good abilities with regards to the usage of the Web 2.0 applications; that they will like to access their library’s resources through the Web 2.0 applications using their mobile devices and the services they will like to access include reference services, circulation services, searching the OPAC, accessing library news, e-resources and subject guides in that order. There are varied kinds of mobile library services, examples of which are MOPACs, mobile reference, mobile instruction, mobile collection and mobile tours. However, the UDS Library does not provide any Web 2.0 mobile based services. The main challenges in implementing these Web 2.0 mobile based services include cost of Internet access, slow Internet connectivity and insufficient funds to acquire needed equipment. Based on these findings, some recommendations were given.

Abstract:
From the very beginning, library education has been a mixture of theory and practice. Dewey required apprenticeships to be part of the first library school at the University of Chicago as a method to indoctrinate new professional. Today, acculturation is incorporated into the professional education through a large variety of experiential learning techniques, including internships, practicum, field work, and service learning projects, all of which are designed to develop some level of professional skills within an information organization. But, what is done for understanding library culture? It is said that one cannot truly recognize the extent of one's own cultural assumptions, until they have experienced another. This study followed a group of LIS graduate students that took that next step – going to Russia. By employing a critical hermeneutic methodology, this study sought to understand what value students gain by from working on an assessment project in an international school library. Using a horizon analysis, the researcher established the worldview of participants prior to their departure, analyzed their experience through post-experience interviews, and constructed an understanding of value. Among other concepts, the researcher looked specifically to see whether "library cultural competency", understanding library culture in global context, was developed through working on a service learning project within an international school library. This dissertation provides feedback for the program leaders and ideas for future research.

Zaleski, Mary. "Development of an Evidence-Based New Graduate Nursing Orientation Program for the Emergency Department." Thesis, Walden University, 2015. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=3728024.

Full text
Abstract:

The traditional new graduate nurse (NGN) orientation process places NGN with an experienced preceptor for 24 weeks and requires clinical skills checklists to be completed by the preceptor, a practice which is not an evidence-based practice for orienting NGNs. The purpose of this quality improvement project was to develop an evidence-based orientation to decrease time requirements and standardize the processes and evaluation of the NGN in the emergency department. The project was informed by Benner’s novice to expert theory and focused on acquisition of clinical skills. The project team included 6 stakeholders: the Doctor of Nursing Practice student-leader, the unit manager, and several preceptors and novice nurses. The current evidence was identified utilizing various search terms via OVID, CINAHL, and MEDLINE. Five emergency department nurse residency programs and 7 rubric-based criterion articles were identified and evaluated. The team synthesized the available evidence to create the program. Resulting products included guidelines, evaluation rubrics, and projected pathways for ongoing development. Content validation was undertaken using peer review by 2 nurse scholars with area expertise, after which the project team revised all products based on feedback. Together, these products comprise an evidence-based solution to the problematic orientation of NGNs in the institution’s emergency department. Adoption of methods that have proven valuable in undergraduate education, such as incorporation of syllabi and rubrics, may increase retention and improve clinical judgment in the NGN. These improved educational outcomes will, in turn, promote improved health outcomes for patients. Outcomes for the project will be monitored using retention rates and the results of the Casey-Fink Graduate Nurse Experience Survey.

Tomlin, Teagan L. "Using Geoscience Education Graduate Students to Help Faculty Transform Teaching Practice." BYU ScholarsArchive, 2008. https://scholarsarchive.byu.edu/etd/2027.

Abstract:
Universities make claims about student learning that graduates don't often achieve and are under pressure to show improvement in teaching and learning in their undergraduate programs. This has been the constant focus of university-level professional development programs, but most teachers are still not using the most effective teaching methods. Individual departments need to find ways to help their instructors overcome three main challenges associated with adopting more effective student-centered teaching methods. No matter what strategy is adopted, instructors need considerable support to 1) change their beliefs about what constitutes effective teaching and learning, 2) learn to effectively implement new strategies, and 3) help their students change their beliefs about teaching and learning. We investigated whether M.S. Geoscience Education graduate students could offer the support instructors need to overcome the challenges listed above. We successfully piloted this approach during 2006 to 2008. Receiving consistent and individualized support from a Geoscience Education graduate student, the instructor changed his beliefs about teaching and learning and learned to effectively implement active learning strategies. His teaching satisfaction and student ratings also increased. Advantages of our approach include 1) the time the graduate student devoted to making course changes, 2) the consistent support the instructor received which allowed him to transfer research supported educational theory into his teaching practice, and 3) the instructor is now a departmental resource that other instructors can go to for guidance. Disadvantages include 1) the graduate student's lack of experience as a teaching consultant and 2) the difficulty of transforming a professor/student relationship into a client/consultant relationship.

Hindmarch, Duncan Nicholas. "A case study examining Graduate Attribute implementation in a Higher Education Institute department and its Further Education college partners : transformative education or 'ticking the box'?" Thesis, Staffordshire University, 2018. http://eprints.staffs.ac.uk/4286/.

Full text
Abstract:
The development of Graduate Attributes (GAs) in higher education institutions (HEIs) around the world has contributed to its reorientation towards explicitly developing graduate level employability within a competitive globalised market (Kalfa and Taksa, 2015). Underpinning GAs is the contested view that such generic skills can be transferred outside learners’ subject expertise (Hughes and Barrie, 2012; Barnett, 2012). Key proponent Simon Barrie argues that GA implementation requires institution-wide transformation; changing approaches to teaching, assessment, quality and stakeholder engagement (Barrie, 2004; 2006; Hughes and Barrie, 2012). However, numerous problems relating to GA implementation have been identified, including differing conceptual viewpoints (Barrie, 2004; 2012), poor management and inconsistent application (De la Harpe and David, 2012; Bond et al., 2017). Additionally, resistance to change, defined by Starr (2011, p.647) as, "... negative actions and non-actions, ill will and resentment, and defensive or confrontational dispositions", was identified as a key hindrance to GA implementation by Jackson and Wilton (2016). Currently, GA investigations have tended to debate the extent to which they develop personal, social and employability skills of young full-time undergraduate learners about to embark on their careers. This exploratory case study contributes to the field of knowledge by focusing on ‘non-traditional’ learners whose voice has yet to be considered within GA literature. It therefore gives voice learners who are mature, part-time and already employed within their chosen career sector (education), studying a degree either at an HEI or Further Education College (FEC). The study considers the extent to which such attributes hold relevance for their personal, academic and professional development needs. The case study is framed through Barrie’s (2006) identification of systemic factors involved in GA institutional transformation. These have been simplified to focus on four lenses for the study: conceptualisation, strategic implementation, facilitation and quality. Data was gained through a documentary search, interviews with HE and FE based managers and lecturers as well as a scoping questionnaire which informed learner focus groups from each of the institutions. The study found that the featured HEI had faced GA implementation difficulties commonly identified in research based in Australia and New Zealand (Hughes and Barrie, 2010; Bond et al., 2017), thus contributing to the body of research suggesting that problems may transcend national systems. Distinctively, the findings from within FEC settings revealed additional problems not identified in previous GA studies; policy clashes between the institutions, unaddressed training and support needs and conflicting dual roles for lecturers. The study advocates the need for greater stakeholder involvement, including FEC partners, in GA formation to make them genuinely represent the ethos of an institution as was envisaged in their initial iteration (Bowden et al., 2000). In this respect, institutions need to give serious consideration to the appropriacy of such a policy for all undergraduates rather than just full-time learners. In terms of implementation, leadership grit and institutional resilience is required. This should acknowledge that genuine transformative change requires and a systematic, consistent and long-term approach which includes transparent reflective evaluation to inform future development. Further research emanating from this work will relate to policy implementation barriers between universities and their FEC partners as well as the extent to which HEI policies and education measurement metrics represent education values espoused by mature, employed, part-time learners.

Shim, Joon Wan. "MECHANOBIOLOGY OF SOFT TISSUE DIFFERENTIATION : EFFECT OF HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE." MSSTATE, 2006. http://sun.library.msstate.edu/ETD-db/theses/available/etd-06262006-095654/.

Full text
Abstract:
This study was motivated by a theoretical formulation on mechanobiology of soft and hard skeletal tissue differentiation. To prove this formulation experimentally, I hypothesized that cartilaginous phenotype can be induced in vitro in a seemingly non-cartilaginous cell source from fibrous tissue. In testing this hypothesis, I have focused on cartilage as a target and fibrous tissue as an origin or the source of cell. Four different trials were pursued with one supposition in common, i.e. hydrostatic pressure is one of the main driving forces for chondroinduction in vitro. The first and second trials pertained to the influence of a relatively short and long duration cyclic hydrostatic compression on rat Achilles tendon fibroblasts. The third trial was to examine the effect of two different drugs on cytoskeletal elements of mesenchymal stem cells or mouse embryonic fibroblast lines in pellet cultures combined with the similar duration and/or frequency of cyclic hydrostatic pressure adopted in the aforesaid trials with no pharmacological agents added. Last, attempts were made to implement an advanced technique in molecular biology called 'PCR array' to further quantify expression levels of eighty four pathway-specific genes in mouse TGFbeta/BMP signaling traffic under the same physiological regimen of hydrostatic compression. Results demonstrated that transdifferentation in phenotype from tendon to fibrocartilage may have occurred in vitro in tendon fibroblasts in pellet cultures exposed to hydrostatic pressure. Experiments on the role of the cytoskeleton in mechanotransduction of the applied level of hydrostatic pressure demonstrated that disruption of microfilaments in the presence of cytochalasin-D did not significantly interfere with the anabolic effect of cyclic pressure. However, disruption of microtubule assembly by nocodazole abolished the pressure-induced stimulation in cartilage marker genes. These findings suggest that microtubules, but not microfilaments, are involved in mechanotransduction of hydrostatic pressure by mesenchymal stem cells.

Abstract:
This research explores the events and circumstances that lead to persistence and departure within the sociology master's program at Portland State University. It examines how individual and institutional characteristics interact and influence student decisions to dropout or continue in the master's program. It utilizes Vincent Tinto's (1993) theories of persistence and departure and his concepts of social and academic integration as they apply to sociology master's students. The purpose of the research was to describe how students became socially and academically integrated and how integration influenced patterns of persistence of departure. The aim also was to determine whether background variables such as undergraduate GPA, cumulative master's GPA, enrollment status, and career and educational goals influenced student outcomes.

In recent years, the IT industry in Taiwan has gradually shifted from hardware manufacturing to software design. At the same time, conflict between IT industry and MIS graduates exists: CISA (Information Service Industry Association of China, Taipei) still claims the immense shortage of IT workers no matter how high the unemployment rate is. However, MIS graduates don’t get extraordinary pay due to this situation. There are two constructs used to describe the “fit”: person-job fit and person-organization fit. Based on the “fit” concept, the purpose of this research is to find out the gap between IT manager and MIS graduate as well as other demographic variables such as sex, area and industry. According to the purposes of this research, we have discovered some important results: a. Fit between IT manager and MIS graduate:Freshmen of the new generation are originative、energetic、optimistic but less durable for frustrations. IT managers tend to expect newcomers follow work rules and norms. b. Fit between sex:General speaking, male tends to accept work rules and norms and prefers the value of competition and result-orientation. Female has more preferences to fringe benefits and work environment and uphold originality and respect. c. Fit between areas:People living in the North Taiwan pay more attention on 「reward」and 「friendship」in work and agree with the value of profession and human nature. Morals and traditions are highly emphasized in the South Taiwan. d. Fit between other demographic variables:First, MIS graduates of private universities place more importance on 「stability」and 「performance」than that of national universities. Second, IT managers under 40 years old have more willingness to offer higher reward conditions for Freshmen and more agreement with the value of 「creative humanity」. Finally, people in software service industry think highly of 「reward」and the value of 「creative humanity」、「morality」and 「respect」.

Bell, Fiona Ruth. "The Department of Information Studies, University of Natal : its role in education for librarianship in South Africa, 1973-1994." Thesis, 1998. http://hdl.handle.net/10413/5754.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis investigates the development of the Department of Information Studies, with the aim of assessing the role it has played in education for librarianship in South Africa from 1973 to 1994, a period of change and transformation in the country. Historical sources, both written and oral, have been traced, analysed, and where possible, verified against other sources, thus using historical method. The study, the first in-depth research into a library and information studies department in a South African university, was seen as necessary in order that the future development of the Department in question be placed upon as sound a socio-historical basis as possible. A literature review provides the context for the study and the thesis contextualizes education for librarianship within national and international library and information services (LIS) and again within the broader context of the South African socio-political and economic situation of this period. The Department's contribution within the University context is also assessed. The findings indicate that, in spite of its uneven development during the 1970s and 1980s, the Department has played an important role in LIS in KwaZulu-Natal, in South Africa and, to some extent, in the southern African region as a whole. This role revolves around training LIS practitioners from school library diploma to doctoral levels; producing and publishing research; participating in wider LIS initiatives and contributing nationally to leading education for librarianship.

This study primarily considers the employment status and the application situation of graduates of education department and graduate institues of universities in Taiwan. In this study, researcher chooses the A department as a case study, executing the telephone questionnaire survey on all of the graduates of A department (total: 311) and doing telephone interviews with the representative samples of A department. Researcher totally retrieving 163 valid questionnaires, and interviews with 10 graduates. Data from the questionnaire survey is analyzed by statistical methods, including frequency distribution, percentages, standard deviation, independent samples t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson correlation. Research findings are as follows: 1. The employment status of graduates with different backgrounds 61.3% of the graduates are obtaining employment. Among them, "the administration director, business executives and the management staff" and "teachers (primary and secondary schools, special education and kindergarten)" take the largest, accounting for 30% of employment, followed by "public servant" in employment accounted for 15.8%. Within the graduates who are obtaining employment, over half of the graduates serve in "public schools" and "public utilities, government agencies (schools excluded)", accounting for 25.7% of employment. This result conforms to the educational objectives of A department. Furthermore, the average monthly salary of graduates is $31977, of which doctor’s average monthly salary is $72500, master $46388 and bachelor $19721. Different gender, the identity (general or on-service students), enrollment and graduation years, graduating class (Bachelor class or master class) and the highest level of education all vary in terms of employment status. 2. The application situation of graduates with different backgrounds 86% of graduates in employment consider their current work having correlation with A department, and 69.4% of graduates in employment believe studying in A department is helpful for their career. Except for the application situation of graduates with different gender, other variables have significant differences. 3. The relationship among graduates’ academic performance, employment status and application situation Graduates’ academic performance has positive correlation with their “class of graduation”. On the other hand, Graduates’ academic performance has no correlation with their “monthly salary”, “job satisfaction”, “the correlation between work and A department”, “the helpfulness of studying in A department” and “the extent of disquiet”. In other words, the better graduates’ academic performance is, the stronger correlation with their higher monthly salary, “involvement of current work and A department”, “the helpfulness of studying in A department” and “class of graduation”. According to the findings mentioned above, research results are as fallow: 1. The employment rate of master graduates is higher than bachelor graduates of A department. 2. The job functions of graduates conforms to the educational objectives of A department. 3. The application situation of master graduates is higher than bachelor graduates of A department . 4. The graduates’ “class of graduation” has positive correlation with “employment”, “application situation” and “academic performance”. Based on the conclusions mentioned above, the suggestions of “Development of departmental advantages”, “Strengthening career consulting”, “Establishment of long-term researching mechanism and institute”, “Expanding activities of employment consulting with combines resources” are also provided to the education department and graduate institutes of universities in Taiwan, educational administration authorities and institutions.

The contents of abstract in this thesis: Fowl cholera (FC) is an acute contagious disease in causing haemorrhagic septicemia in turkeys, ducks and geese, and other avians, caused by Pasteurella multocida (PM). PM is currently divided into 16 serotypes. The FC occurrence in Taiwan mainly caused by serotype 1 and 3. Control of the disease mainly relys on the vaccination of PM bacterin or live vaccine. In order to make a good selection of PM bacterin production seed strains based on their virulence and immunoprotectivity, 7 standard strains serum, biochemical tests and polymerase chain reaction verified 14 field isolates of PM, were individually inoculated in a group of Muscovy ducklings. Four isolates (N3, N5, N32 and N53) were then chosed for mass propagated, formalin inactivateded, freezing or 55℃ dried, then making the aluminum hydroxide (Gel) or oil emulsion vaccine (OEV) containing 1, 0.5, 0.25 or 0.125% packed cell volume (PCV) of reconstituted or original killed PM cells. All the self prepared bacterins were then individually immunizing a group of 12 Muscovy ducklings. A nonimmunized control group was also included. Each group was then subcutaneously challenged (108 CFU/bird) with a mixture of 14 field isolates. The daily mortality was scored for 7 days. Groups of ducklings immunized with the oil-emulsion vaccine containing > 0.125% freeze- dried PM antigen provided 100% protectivity, whereas the oil-emulsion vaccine containing 0.5% original PM killed facteria provided 92% protectivity. Groups of ducklings immunized with the Gel type vaccine containing > 0.5% freeze- dried PM antigen provided 92% protectivity, whereas the Gel type vaccine containing >1 % 55℃ dried PM antigen provided 83% protectivity. PM antigen can be freeze-dried for cutting down the storage space without making any detrimental effect to its antigenicity. PM antigen dried under 55℃ might affect its antigenicity. The FC OEV prepared from the virulent isolates of PM in this study provided good immunoprotectivity some how higher than the FC Gel. Abstract:
Submitted in fulfillment of the requirement for the degree of Masters of Technology: Quality,Durban University of Technology, Durban, South Africa, 2012.
This study examined the quality, employability and the competencies of graduates from the Department of Operations and Quality Management at Durban University of Technology (DUT). The objectives of the study included determining the relevance of the curriculum to the workplace; evaluating the views of graduates regarding employability; and assessing the views of organisations regarding graduate performance in the workplace. The study also proposes that with the knowledge and skills acquired in the field of Operations Management, graduates should be able to reach their full personal and professional potential. However, these graduates still experience difficulties in adjusting and coping with the realities of the labour market. Combinations of qualitative and quantitative research methods were used. The study was exploratory in nature. The study made use of questionnaires to obtain the respondent’s view. The pilot study composed a sample of ten graduates. For the main study, forty of the sixty graduates and employers completed and returned the questionnaires that were administered. The response rate was 67%. The Cronbach’s Alpha Reliability Analysis was used to measure the reliability of the questionnaires. Face validity was verified by the statistician for pre-administering of questionnaires. The results revealed that obtaining a qualification in operations management at DUT increases the employability of graduates. The study also showed that employers are content with the way in which these graduates are able to translate their theoretical knowledge into practice, and to identify and solve problems within organisations. However, the study shows that some employers did not provide adequate support and guidance in relation to their development.

Koma, Nneileng. "An implementation analysis of the graduate internship programme of the South African Department of Public Service and Administration." Thesis, 2010. http://hdl.handle.net/10413/5166.

Full text
Abstract:
The advent of democracy in South Africa has opened up a window of opportunity for issues or social ills to be brought forward to the attention of policy makers. South Africa is faced with a high number of unemployed graduates and one factor attributable to this is their lack of experiential training which is a requisite for entering the highly competitive labour market making it difficult for them to access employment. The government, in one attempt to address this policy issue, adopted internships as a remedial initiative in 2002. The youth make up a very high percentage of the South African population and therefore it is detrimental to the country if this high percentage of the population remains unlinked to the economy. It is now imperative also to understand that the assembling of what seems a good corrective measure of an issue does not guarantee success. The reality in South Africa indicates that there is a major problem around the implementation of policies and programmes by government. The implementation phase of the internship programme plays a very crucial part in ensuring an effective delivery of programme benefits, thus the importance of continuously evaluating implementation processes in implementing departments like the Department of Public Service and Administration. The findings of the study reveal that there are flaws in the implementation of the Internship Programme in the DPSA, relating to access strategy, the target population and the relevance of on the job training provided to interns.

Abstract:
Chapter 1 will cover the general background on training outside and inside Eskom. It will scrutinise the existing training programme taking into account the factors that inform this training. An assessment will also be made of the training strategy that the CED is already using. Chapter 2 will present an in-depth literature review that will serve as a guide in scrutinising training and development of the organisation and the staff. The literature in question covers coaching, mentoring, staff development, communication as a factor of training, induction, orientation, skills sharing, training evaluation, training objectives, job rotation, and skills knowledge. This literature will allow me to compare training in Eskom with that which is suggested from the literature review. This will be done in order to recommend solutions for training strategy problems in the CED. Studies touching on training have been undertaken in the past and this dissertation will also make use of them as references. Chapter 3 describes the research methodology used and the method of data collection. The three groups of staff that have been used to obtain data in the CED Camden Power Station, namely, discipline engineering managers, senior engineers and graduates in training, are also discussed. Chapter 4 presents the data analysis. All the data obtained from questionnaires and literature is analysed here. The analysis makes use of pie charts to analyse the data obtained from the respondents. Chapter 5 covers recommendations and conclusions. Recommendations are made based on responses to the research questionnaires. Research questionnaires that were used to obtain data are in the appendices.

In this research, I interviewed seven focus groups formed by full-time graduate students of educational department. I also analyzed related documents and told my own story, wishing to inquire the learning experiences and learning situations of full-time graduate students in graduate schools of education from their/our own perspectives. The results of this research are as follow: 1. The images of graduate schools of education full-time graduate students of educational department dream of could be sorted into ten types. The educational aims mainly include four categories. Besides, most images are similar to “enhance one’s ability” in one of the educational aims of graduate schools of education. They/ We seldom talk about the image of practical dimension. 2. The motivations of full-time graduate students of educational department studying in graduate schools of education are divergent. Moreover, the motivations between Normal university graduates and non-Normal university graduates differ. Some study in graduate schools of education for utilitarian concern, some are influenced by others’ expectation, still others want to accomplish their self-realization. 3. Their/Our first impressions of graduate schools of education can be sorted into positive and negative feelings. Those who took educational courses in college have better adaptation in graduate schools life of education than those who didn’t. Whether they/we have work experiences or not, they/we all feel outer and inner financial pressures. 4. The curricula of graduate schools of education are based on methodology and basic theory of education. Also, “no class would be shut down” is accepted through common practice. Full-time graduate students of educational department are not satisfied with the existing curricula. Therefore, they/we have come up with many survival strategies for taking courses. Most students have negative feeling for the class which is based on students’ reports. They/We prefer teachers’ narration. Although graduate students of educational department are willing to attend symposiums that arouse their/our interests, they/we still have negative reaction on it. 5. The student-teacher rate of each graduate schools of education differs widely. The interaction between students and teachers in class are confined to only several teachers. The informal interactions are rare. The directing styles of supervisors can be sorted into seven types. Also, graduate students as research assistants have complicated feeling when interacting with the hosts of the projects. When their/our supervisors are also their/our hosts of the projects, the oppressed relationship between students and teachers will deepen. 6. Schoolmates are their/our supporters, learning models and conversing subjects. Most graduate students of educational department have positive feeling for private interaction with one another. Also, unity will bring joy to cooperation of assignment. However, those who don’t join discussion in class, don’t cooperate positively will leave bad impressions on the experiences of peer interaction. 7. Most graduate students of educational department doubt the way of assisting administrative affairs and wonder who they/we are. Furthermore, assisting administrative affairs has become one of the pressures in graduate schools of education. As far as interacting with administrators is concerned, although some deserve to be followed, unequal relationship between students and administrators still exists. 8. Generally speaking, graduate students of educational department have positive attitude toward the learning process in graduate schools of education. The growth can be sorted into five dimension : the change of value, the strengthen of self-ability, the broaden of knowledge, be able to do more reflection and affective growth. 9. The future plans of graduate students of educational department include graduating from graduate schools and finding a job smoothly, going further studies after finding a job, switching to other fields, keeping teaching, and practicing education. However, some people still haven’t thought about their future plans. 10. Graduate students of educational department may encounter such learning difficulties as lacking learning stimulant and resources, heavy pressures of studies, finance, thesis, peer and administrative affairs, restriction on elective courses, bad time management, learning loneliness, learning frustration and lacking conversing subjects. 11. I’ll pose some problems and reflections that graduate students of educational department may face in the light of higher education, educational departments and related people. According to the results of this research, I’ll bring up related inspirations in the light of higher education, educational departments teachers, graduate students of educational department and researchers that are interested in similar issues in the future.

The purpose of this study was to, by observing and interviewing two music education professors over a period of one semester, analyzed the implied metacognitive nature of their teaching processes based upon Brown’s theoretical structure of metacognition. The case study method was utilized. The researcher observed the two professors teach the courses of “Kodaly Teaching Method” and “Philosophy of Music Education” respectively. Other research instruments including in-depth interviews and reflective journals were also utilized to collect related data. To verify the reliability and validity of the data analysis, the researcher conducted triangulation. Based upon research findings and results, the conclusions are drawn as follows: First, regarding “knowledge about cognition,” the semester teachings of these two case study professors were both found to be deeply influenced by their previous learning and teaching experiences. Second, as to “knowledge about cognition,” the two case study professors both observed to understand their students’ status and adjusted their curricular contents and instructional paces during the semester. Third, concerning “knowledge about cognition,” the two case study professors were both willing to change their mentality to adopt themselves to the instructional atmospheres confronted this semester. Fourth, in terms of “knowledge about cognition,” the two case study professors both took a sincere attitude toward their teaching, hoping to help their students acquire more knowledge. Fifth, regarding “regulation of cognition,” the two case study professors, when designing their teaching plan, both resorted to their previous learning and teaching experiences out of which to select appropriate experiences for this semester’s teaching. Sixth, as to “regulation of cognition,” the two case study professors both wanted to have control over the teaching governance during the instruction process, in order to monitor the instructional paces and student responses all the time. Seventh, concerning “regulation of cognition,” the two case study professors both assumed a most severe attitude toward themselves, while they were both easy on their students. Eighth, the two case study professors each possessed particular ways for knowledge acquisition, and applied it with great caution in whatever courses they taught. Ninth, due to the different natures of their teaching courses, the two case study professors implemented different teaching plan, monitoring perspectives and examining approaches. However, they were both able to adjust or modify their curricular contents and instructional paces because of their self-monitoring ability.

Following with professionalize of social work, graduate institute in social work has become an essential part. The level of learning self-efficacy is a critical factor for students to acquire fine learning experience in graduate institute, to confront and deal with difficulties during their studies and to be willing to devote into practical social work field. There are variety of factors may affect learning self-efficacy. In addition to personal characters of learners themselves, self factors and perceptions upon environment are also included. Therefore, this research mainly discuss about correlation among perception of department support from students of graduate institute in social work, learning planning approach and learning self-efficacy. This research focuses on 19 university departments named Social Work across the country and surveys among first and second year graduate students. A total of 540 questionnaires were distributed and 423 were collected with a recall rate of 77.63%. The analysis was conducted based on the 414 valid questionnaires among them, and the research results are summarized as follows: 1. The ratio of male to female of students from graduate institute in social work is 1:3, and students who are single, full-time and live apart from home are majority. About 80% of students graduated from social work related departments. 50% among all has no working experience. Students are mainly from north and central parts of Taiwan. 2. Regarding to personal data, there was significant differences among marital status, working experience, enrollment status and department support. Marital status, working experience, enrollment status, religious, current working status and learning planning approach demonstrated partial significant differences. There were also partial significant differences among marital status, religious, enrollment status, working experience, current job status, gender, age and learning self-efficacy. 3. Department support and learning self-efficacy shows positive correlation, which indicates the higher department support that students perceive, the higher learning self-efficacy will be. Moreover, each perspectives of learning planning approach and learning self-efficacy demonstrate significant positive correlation; especially students who study based on professional-development motivation and personal interest oriented have higher correlation with learning self efficacy. 4. Among personal data, department support and learning planning approach, some factors show predictive power upon learning self-efficacy. Especially students who adopt personal interest oriented and professional-development motivation as learning planning approach show highest predictive power of learning self-efficacy. According to the research result mentioned above, this study, based on personal learning perspective, school education perspective and overall social work professional education perspective, suggests the following recommendations: 1. Students, before choosing graduate school, should thoroughly evaluate and be capable of learning actively, thinking from different perspectives as well as planning their own learning processes and adjust them as needed. 2. Regarding to school enrollment strategy, specific department goal should be provided to students for their information. Before students enrolled, school should choose students with higher learning motivation through variety of approaches. After students enrolled, on the other hand, offering sufficient resources and opportunities, building fellow supporting network and bringing up students’ learning interests are critical for school. 3. Overall social work professional education should dedicate more manpower and financial resource; along with thorough evaluation and improvement of internship system.

Abstract:
Thesis (MPA.) -- University of LImpopo, 2017
The Internship programme has been used by many governments and employers throughout the world to integrate academic theory learnt at schools and Universities and practiced in the workplace. The South African government introduced the Public Service Internship Programme(PSIP) in 2002, and one of its objectives was to reduce the high rate of graduates who are unemployable by appointing them as graduate interns for a period of 12 months, thus providing them with the public service skills and experience required by the Public Service in South Africa. The purpose of this study was to investigate the implementation of the Public Service Internship Programme with regards to its contribution to the employability of graduates: The case of the Limpopo Department of Economic Development, Environment, and Tourism in the Republic of South Africa. The study used the qualitative research method to interview 80 respondents ranging from Executive Management, Senior Management, Middle Management, Junior Management, Operational employees, Mentors and Graduate Interns to solicit their views and understanding on the implementation of the Public Service Internship Programme within the department. The study used content analysis to analyse data obtained from the 80 research respondents. The analysis was made using themes in line with thematic content analysis. The research findings confirmed that Graduate Interns are obtaining the necessary and relevant skills that will make them employable after completing the PSIP. The PSIP imparts Graduate Interns with skills that contribute to their employability in both the public and private sectors. It instils confidence and provides exposure and experience to Graduates Interns to have competitive advantages during job interviews in the public service and the private sector. It is a very useful programme that must be supported and encouraged in the public service as it assisted many to get jobs and reduce the rate of graduate unemployment in South Africa. It is relevant, useful and necessary to deal with the unemployment of graduates. It is successful and must be promoted because most Graduate Interns are employable during and after the completion of the programme. The study made the following recommendations; That all stakeholders must be inducted on PSIP to ensure its successful implementation, mentors must be trained on mentoring and coaching prior to their appointment, Mentoring vi be linked to the key result areas and key performance indicators of employees for it to be recognised in terms of the Performance Management and Development System, PSIP must be monitored and evaluated like all other government programmes, that the assignment of duties to graduates must be in line with their qualifications and their careers, graduate interns should be allowed to attend departmental meetings and functions as part of their learning areas, that those interning on the departmental Human Resources Management and Development be granted access to the PERSAL system as it is an important system in the South African Public Service, exit interviews must be conducted to get feedback from the interns on the implementation of the programme, and that proper allocation of offices or work spaces must be done by the department to enhance and improve the working conditions of the Graduate Interns

The graduation exhibition of the Department of Architecture is an important stage bearing the graduation project. The selection of exhibition venue varied with the development of Taiwan''s urban culture space, Songshan Cultural and Creative Park and Huashan 1914 Creative Park became the first choice of graduation exhibition. Two graduating classes (2016 and 2017) of the Department of Architecture, Chung Yuan Christian University, unconventionally entered the old village “Daguanyuan”, which was tightly related to the Department of Architecture but declined gradually nearby Chung Yuan Christian University. They spent one year on reorganizing a part of messy idle space into a graduation exhibition area for “patched landscape”. They not only initiated a new form of graduation exhibition context of the Department of Architecture, but also presented the abilities of the student as novice architects and exhibition planners, when faced with the complex power relations behind the gray zone resulted from the past urban development, in solving the problems in reality. Chapter 2 develops the prototype from the graduation exhibition information of the Department of Architecture. Chapter 3 builds the historical relation between the campus of Chung Yuan Christian University and Daguanyuan village development context. Chapter 4 describes the exhibition planning process of two graduating classes, and discusses their ideas on Daguanyuan, including how they faced local vagrants in the village, entered the site without permission first and later negotiated space utilization with the homeowners, faced the relevancy of the sponsors with multiple benefit relations to the student organization. The exhibition undertaking is related to the connectivity between the exhibition planning students and Daguanyuan, and to the interactive relationship between the professionals and residents after the space is intervened in. They attempted to maintain the activity of space as workshops after the exhibition ended, highlighting the attitude of current students of the Department of Architecture towards social care and value identification. The spatial practice and reproduction of patched landscape comprise space, society, and education sides. The local collective memory is patched up by spatial practice in the reproduced space, driving the backflow and attention of people and repairing the social relations between students and residents. The reflective thinking of students about architecture is practiced in such a joint graduation project by preliminary discussion and action, incarnating the students'' subjectivity. The two classes failed to solve the space problem entirely, but the students really reflected the value and nature of space blinded and buried in current society, so as to create a patch for architectural education.

Abstract:
Submitted on completed of Master’s Degree of Technology: Quality, Department of Operations and Quality Management, Durban University of Technology, Durban, South Africa, 2015.
Similar to a production line, the development of a dissertation is a process within a research dyad that is affected by many factors. On completion, the customer / student is either satisfied or dissatisfied with the outcome of the research process. However, errors in the dissertation detract from its quality and this may leave students dissatisfied with the overall outcome of the marking and review process. To improve the product, it is critical that factors contributing to the production of a quality dissertation are understood. The aim of this study was to determine which components of the SERVQUAL model (namely, Responsiveness, Assurance, Tangibles, Empathy and Reliability) contributed to a lower quality dissertation, thereby gaining an understanding of, and implementing factors which enable the production of a good quality dissertation which meets all stakeholders’ expectations. This was achieved through a prospective, mixed-methods study which analyzed the quality of 30 dissertations by means of a Checklist, denoting the quality of the dissertations. Thereafter, the 30 students and 30 supervisors involved in these dyads were asked to each complete separate questionnaires. The questions covered their respective demographics, research knowledge, expectations and perceptions of the research process. The data was then descriptively analysed and presented by way of tables to demonstrate the quality of the dissertation, and the characteristics of the students and the supervisors. The Chi-Squared statistics and Fisher’s Exact tests were then computed to determine relationships between these characteristics. It was revealed that significant differences between the students and the supervisors existed regarding: the length of time to completion of their Master’s; the roles of facilitators in the research process; student and supervisor role ambiguity; the reason for and need to complete research and specific knowledge of the research process. It was noted that a lack of communication resulted in a significant impact on reliability of the university service, moderate impact on assurance and responsiveness, with the least impact on empathy. In contrast, both the student and the supervisor perceived the tangibles provided by the university as satisfactory. Then, through the process of triangulation, it was shown that the relationship within the dyad lacked clear communication and common understanding of the research processes which was likely to result in a lower quality dissertation. It is, therefore, recommended that all students and supervisors that enter into a dyadic relationship need to find mechanisms (for example: learning contract, weekly meetings) to ensure a consistent and common understanding of the research process throughout its development to allow for the effective production of a good quality dissertation.

Mindfulness-Based psychotherapy includes both Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction(MBSR) and Mindfulness-Based cognitive therapy(MBCT). Mindfulness–Based Stress Reduction, which helped people cope with physical and mental illness, was created by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in 1979. Mindfulness-Based cognitive therapy ,which used traditional Cognitive Behavioral Therapy(CBT) methods and added in newer psychological strategies such as mindfulness and mindfulness meditation, was developed by Zindel Segal, Mark Williams and John Teasdale, It was designed to aid in preventing the relapse of depression, specifically for individuals with Major depressive disorder (MDD). Both programs are aimed to cultivate "mindfulness". This study is to explore student learning experience of a Mindfulness–Based Stress Reduction Program. The program was conducted in Nanhua University in-service master degree program of Department Life and Death. The study aimed to understand the influence on the individual's self-care, stress and emotion management, work, and daily life after the learning experience. The results are followings: 1. influence on the ability of self-care:Begin to care about the body message, pain reduced because of paying close attention, the experience of eating meditation relishes and nurtures the food .body connection brings tranquil and relaxation, stop and being with self, self-awareness and acceptance. 2.influence on stress and emotion:Stabilize the body and mind by anchoring respiration and emotion awareness. From different perspectives to think, meditation helps to relax and settle down. 3. influence on work and life:aware how to adapt the exhaust, enhance the ability of pressure-resistance, respiration helps to settle down after the fluctuation of emotion, getting nourishment from the little happiness in hand, walking meditation retrieves the sense of being, thinking differently resolves the interpersonal crisis. 4. influence on belief:common ground:Concentration, living peaceably, spirituality integration, benevolence. Individual difference:Favor the grace of God, concentrate on the practice of Pure Land Buddhism. Corporations nowadays all stress on integration both in talents or between disciplinaries. The same goes in the industry of art. As the demand side changes, so shall the mechanism for incubation as well. Degrees pertaining to the administration and management of arts in Taiwan also have undergone transformation in recent years, developing various curriculums on art curating as well as creating spaces for practices close to the venues out there in terms of instructional strategy. Nevertheless, studies related to art curating at present are primarily those on special exhibitions or of curating plans, falling short in the investigation into its education development and methodology. Hence, the purpose of this paper aims to shed light on the curriculums of art curating provided at the graduate schools in Taiwan. The case of “Curating & Gallery Education” course from the Graduate Program in the Department of Fine Arts of Tunghai University was taken as an example in the study. Through qualitative study approach and with interview and content analysis for data collection, together with the perspectives of “Learning Organization” and “Professional Growth”, the paper probes into the development process and the operation model of this instructional strategy as well as its influence on students’ professional growth and the meaning to the art curating education at the graduate program in the Department of Fine Arts of Tunghai University. The study draws three conclusions as follows : 1. The overall planning of “Curating & Gallery Education” is a variable structure of principle. In terms of instructional strategy and operation model, active learning for individuals and learning together for groups are highlighted as students inspire and exchange with each other, demonstrating traits of a learning organization. 2. In terms of professional knowledge development, students taking the course ““Curating & Gallery Education” gain the opportunity to re-think on art curating regarding the knowledge of process and methods of exhibition execution, time management, as well as the abilities of observation and communication. Also, students went through the transformations in self-awareness, self-breakthrough, self-strengthening, and value-building on the regard of professional attitude. 3. On the meaning of “Curating & Gallery Education” to the art curating education at the Graduate Program in the Department of Fine Arts of Tunghai University, what it creates is not just a process of receiving knowledge passively, but an environment that encourages students to pro-actively investigate, while facilitating in career inquiry and rapidly connecting to the workplace for students.

Common career test tools include the UCAN University Career and Competency Assessment Network of the Ministry of Education, the nine planet competency tests of the Human Resource Agency, and work temperament test of the Ministry of Labor. Although these test tools have been widely used, the test results of each tool for those who are looking for a job, it is still not possible to use this information effectively to find a suitable career. Based on the above questions, this paper establishes career testing tools, taking into account many typical and atypical factors, and then use Neural Network establishing a predictive model to complete career testing tools. This paper will be divided into two phases, and the key factors will be selected in the first phase. Identify the factors of the adaptation tool and screen them in three ways: expert consensus method, weighted average method, and TOPSIS method. The second stage uses the eight key factors selected in the first stage to collect data. The R language performs Neural Network model calculation to find the best hidden layer to construct the model. The final eight key factor data yields get accuracy of 50%. The test tool of this paper is different from the test of the single factor in the previous career test tool, and narrows the scope of the result recommendation to the suitable career, so that the result can more accurately describe the suitable occupational field of the subject. Those who are interested in the career test field and career counselors can refer to the atypical factors used in this paper as different test methods. For the school, the same method can be used to predict the personality of each department and help students choose the department.

This dissertation focuses on the current situation of Buddhist Studies in higher education, using staff members and students of both the Buddhist Department at the NanHua University’s Graduate Institute of Religious Studies and the Chung-Hwa Institute of Buddhist Studies at Dharma Drum Mountain as case studies, the paper consists of a series of examinations of the founders, the founding history, the internal education, current issues, and the students’ progressions after graduation. Chapter one puts forward the author’s intentions, the concept of the research question, and the intention of the study. The main aim is to express the issues close to the author’s heart, expressing a strong subjectivity. The definition of terms facilitates later discussions of the questions by avoiding ambiguities. The chapter also lays out clear research boundaries and as well as the limitations to the dissertation, where the author explains the pros and cons of writing from an insider’s point of view. In the meantime, the author introduces the research methods, especially research by characteristics, exploring and analysing related writings, and how they correspond to this text. Chapter two gives the examples of Master Hsing Yun and Master Sheng Yen, both of whom have made important contributions to the development of Buddhist education. The adversities they encountered in founding the subject and their uncompromising spirits are the centre of this chapter. They both provide an exemplary model for later generations to follow. The chapter also introduces the founding process and development of the two institutes. Chapter three compares the environments, educational goals and future prospects of the two schools, while also introducing the tutors and the course contents. By providing a “diversity” of educational information, the author hopes to widen the perspective of those who might be interested to take up the subject, as well as improving the public’s understanding of the values and meanings of academic Buddhist Studies. Chapter four and five present interviews with students and teachers of both institutes; through the conversations, we gain an insight of the staff’s research experiences, teaching concepts, future outlooks and hopes for the students; in the meantime, we can understand the students’ motives of taking up the subject, their aims and experiences (difficulties, benefits and special experiences), and their hopes and goals for the future. The text further explores concepts of religion and humanities; participations in religious discussions; future prospects; and provides thoughts and concrete suggestions on the practices of religious education. By getting to know the members of the two institutes, the chapter attempts to paint a clearer picture of this new research territory. Chapter six considers the development and future of researchers in this subject. It analyses the present market by tracing the employment situations of former pupils; some have gone on to teaching at universities, Buddhist institutes, and community universities; others provide their services at educational administrations, cultural organizations, temple associations, or work for religious publications or libraries. The author puts forward more innovative concepts and concrete proposals; for example, proactively designing religious courses for schools; providing counselling for students with special needs; religious consultations; exploration of a wider educational market; religious cultural projects or management; and caring for the terminally ill (religion as conciliation). Thereby, the author hopes to inspire the creativity and activity of insiders, while raising the awareness of both insiders and outsiders in terms of the value and meaning of religious studies in our society. Chapter seven draws the conclusion to this dissertation. It revisits the findings and suggestions encountered during the research for the reference of the reader, and to point out future directions of the author’s attention. All research question raised in this paper have great potential for further studies, the writer hopes that researchers interested in the subject of Buddhism can undertake further explorations by means of religious social science, so that the general public may gain better understanding of Buddhism and its related subjects.
