Abstract:
ABSTRACTGougerotin is a peptidyl nucleoside antibiotic. It functions as a specific inhibitor of protein synthesis by binding ribosomal peptidyl transferase and exhibits a broad spectrum of biological activities.gouR, situated in the gougerotin biosynthetic gene cluster, encodes a TetR family transcriptional regulatory protein. Gene disruption and genetic complementation revealed thatgouRplays an important role in the biosynthesis of gougerotin. Transcriptional analysis suggested that GouR represses the transcription of thegouL-to-gouBoperon consisting of 11 structural genes and activates the transcription of the major facilitator superfamily (MFS) transporter gene (gouM). Electrophoresis mobility shift assays (EMSAs) and DNase I footprinting experiments showed that GouR has specific DNA-binding activity for the promoter regions ofgouL,gouM, andgouR. Our data suggested that GouR modulates gougerotin production by coordinating its biosynthesis and export inStreptomyces graminearus.

Abstract:
Lascaux Cave is renowned for its outstanding prehistoric paintings, strikingly well-preserved over about 18,000 yr. While stalagmites and stalactites are almost absent in the cave, there is an extensive calcite flowstone that covered a large part of the cave until its opening for tourists during the 1950s. The deposit comprises a succession of calcite rims, or “gours,” which allowed seepage water to pond in large areas in the cave. Their possible role in preservation of the cave paintings has often been evoked, but until now this deposit has not been studied in detail. Here, we present 24 new radiocarbon accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) and 6 uranium-thorium (U-Th) analyses from the calcite of the gours, 4 AMS 14C dates from charcoals trapped in the calcite, and 4 AMS 14C analyses on organic matter extracted from the calcite. Combining the calibrated 14C ages obtained on charcoals and organic matter and U-Th ages from 14C analyses made on the carbonate, has allowed the calculation of the dead carbon proportion (dcp) of the carbonate deposits. The latter, used with the initial atmospheric 14C activities reconstructed with the new IntCal09 calibration data, allows high-resolution age estimation of the gour calcite samples and their growth rates. The carbonate deposit grew between 9530 and 6635 yr cal BP (for dcp = 10.7 ± 1.8%; 2 σ) or between 8518 and 5489 yr cal BP (for dcp = 20.5 ± 1.9%; 2 σ). This coincides with humid periods that can be related to the Atlantic period in Europe and to Sapropel 1 in the eastern Mediterranean Sea. However, geomorphological changes at the cave entrance might also have played a role in the gour development. In the 1940s, when humans entered the cave for the first time since its prehistoric occupation, the calcite gours had already been inactive for several thousand years.

Abstract:
A new sub-type of folia named “reverse pseudo-gour” has been observed and described in the Nerja Cave, southern Spain. It consists of fairly vertical, thin barriers (about 5 mm high and 2 mm thick) that develop on the underside of a sub-horizontal surface (shelfstone) and grow in the opposite direction to normal gours (rimstone dams), generating sinuous shapes. Their mineral composition is essentially calcium carbonate, although globular aggregates composed of clay and phosphate minerals have also been identified. The genesis and evolution of these reverse pseudo-gours occur just at the air-water interface and are controlled by (1) the sub-horizontality of the surface on which they develop, (2) scarce to very scarce calcite supersaturation, and (3) progressive and slow lowering of the water level. Thus, reverse pseudo-gours represent the shape limit to which a folia reaches when its development occurs just below a nearly horizontal ceiling and the feeding water saturation is extremely low. Although this new sub-type of folia has only been observed in the Nerja Cave, it is highly probable that it exists in several other caves around the world because the factors controlling its development are not very strict.

Abstract:
Abstract The emergence of humanistic geographers like Tim Cresswell, Edward Relph, and Yi-Fu Tuan from the 1970s onwards redefined the meaning of ‘place’, through extensive emphasis on human experience within and beyond the physical landscape. Since then ‘place’ has stretched its domain and traversed the terrains of various disciplines, including literary study and production. Discussing ‘place’ in relation to how the acclaimed Indian writer Neelum Saran Gour represents Allahabad shows how she reframes the ‘cultural geography’ of the city. While decoding her literary spaces, this interview focusses on the multidimensional concept of ‘place’ from geographical and social–cultural perspectives and how Allahabad, or any other place like Allahabad for that matter, becomes an extension of the writer’s ‘self’ and its inhabitants. This interview also explicates how Gour conceives the invisibilities of multicultural North Indian society in terms of its various linguistic and gendered identities. In turn, Gour’s work moves from regional singularity to represent ‘Indianness’ more broadly.

Abstract:
In an era of sustainable development, a paradoxical observation is that natural resources are being over-exploited. Despite the social and economic importance of these resources to the local population, this phenomenon is prompting development stakeholders to strengthen the socio-economic potential of agroforestry sectors in Ivory Coast. This study therefore presents the social value of néré or (dôgô, solo, doun, nadigué and ninguin in local languages) in the Gour cultural area of Ivory Coast. The study took a qualitative approach. It used documentary research, direct observation and semi-structured interviews as data-gathering techniques. The study highlights the Gour communities' traditional nutritional and therapeutic knowledge relating to néré. It then identifies the social representations associated with the cowpea tree as an economic asset and a natural fertiliser for the communities studied. Finally, social prohibitions and cultural practices of adoration associated with the dwarf nut tree are described as mechanisms of conservation and customary management of the dwarf nut tree on a community basis. In short, this work shows the social value of the dwarf nut tree through the preventive and curative utility of its use in the treatment of certain diseases, as well as its economic and ecological function.

We show that the proof of the generalised quantum Stein's lemma [Brandão & Plenio, Commun. Math. Phys. 295, 791 (2010)] is not correct due to a gap in the argument leading to Lemma III.9. Hence, the main achievability result of Brandão & Plenio is not known to hold. This puts into question a number of established results in the literature, in particular the reversibility of quantum entanglement [Brandão & Plenio, Commun. Math. Phys. 295, 829 (2010); Nat. Phys. 4, 873 (2008)] and of general quantum resources [Brandão & Gour, Phys. Rev. Lett. 115, 070503 (2015)] under asymptotically resource non-generating operations. We discuss potential ways to recover variants of the newly unsettled results using other approaches.

We make a number of simplifications in Gour and Friedland’s proof of local additivity of the minimum output entropy of a quantum channel. We follow them in reframing the question as one about the entanglement entropy of bipartite states associated with a d B × d E matrix. We use a different approach to reduce the general case to that of a square positive definite matrix. We use the integral representation of the log to obtain expressions for the first and second derivatives of the entropy, and then exploit the modular operator and functional calculus to streamline the proof following their underlying strategy. We also extend this result to the maximum relative entropy with respect to a fixed reference state, which has important implications for studying the superadditivity of the capacity of a quantum channel to transmit classical information.

Abstract:
We derive an entropic uncertainty relation for generalized positive-operator-valued measure (POVM) measurements via a direct-sum majorization relation using Schur concavity of entropic quantities in a finite-dimensional Hilbert space. Our approach provides a significant improvement of the uncertainty bound compared with previous majorization-based approaches (Friendland, S.; Gheorghiu, V.; Gour, G. Phys. Rev. Lett. 2013, 111, 230401; Rastegin, A.E.; Życzkowski, K. J. Phys. A, 2016, 49, 355301), particularly by extending the direct-sum majorization relation first introduced in (Rudnicki, Ł.; Puchała, Z.; Życzkowski, K. Phys. Rev. A 2014, 89, 052115). We illustrate the usefulness of our uncertainty relations by considering a pair of qubit observables in a two-dimensional system and randomly chosen unsharp observables in a three-dimensional system. We also demonstrate that our bound tends to be stronger than the generalized Maassen–Uffink bound with an increase in the unsharpness effect. Furthermore, we extend our approach to the case of multiple POVM measurements, thus making it possible to establish entropic uncertainty relations involving more than two observables.

Abstract:
Urban research on Bengal has emphasized colonial Calcutta (postcolonial Kolkata) and its hinterland, paying less attention to precolonial centres and processes of urbanization. Between the thirteenth and the early eighteenth centuries, the trading village of Kalikata lay on the coastal margin of Bengal. The regional capitals of the Sultanate and Mughal periods were located further inland at Gour, Pandua, Rajmahal, Dhaka, and Murshidabad, in the hinterlands of imperial capitals in the Delhi region. Bengal capitals changed frequently with fluvial and geopolitical conditions, which had implications for their economic and architectural development. Coastal trading settlements competed with one another in commercial and military matters, which established a new hinterland by the late eighteenth century, with ‘hinterland’ defined as the economic catchment region of the maritime port of Calcutta. This article retraces these processes from chronicles, revenue records, and archaeological surveys. Our examination concludes with the national eclipse of Calcutta by New Delhi in the early twentieth century, and the prospect of climate-driven retreat to inland capitals in Bengal in a twenty-first-century shift that would resemble urban patterns of the precolonial era.

Abstract:
AbstractContemporary times have triggered for an interdisciplinary cusp between disciplines that were conventionally read in a hinged academic encore. The Gangetic ‘Triveni-Sangam’ near Allahabad city where three holy rivers Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati converge, is believed to be the holiest riverscape as one drop of amrit (nectar) during ocean churning by Gods and demons fell into its water and therefore, bathing and dipping in this sangam or confluence is considered auspicious. It is not that people only experience such spiritual values, rather internalize the same, even sometimes beyond religious restraints formulating a holistic human and ecological bonding. Therefore, river or for that matter riverscape like sangam transcends the environmental physical boundary to the living one as it shapes people’s experiences and accordingly adds meaning in their lives. Indian English author Neelum Saran Gour’s fictional representation of the riverscape of Gangetic ‘Triveni-Sangam’ in her select writings like Allahabad Aria (2015), Invisible Ink (2015), and Requiem in Raga Janki (2018) are woven within the interdisciplinary framework of ‘eco-spirituality’. The present research will examine how riverscape as an eco-spiritual entity shapes individuals’ experiences and helps them to locate the ‘self’ both in vyashti (the individual) and samashti (the collective) scale.

Abstract:
SUMMARY The Tuareg Shield was assembled by oceanic closures and horizontal movements along mega-shear zones between approximately 20 terranes during the Pan-African Orogeny (750–550 Ma). Although there is an ongoing debate about its origin, the exhumation of the Tuareg Shield is assumed to be related to Cenozoic intraplate volcanism. The Gour Oumelalen is a key region of the Tuareg Shield and is located in the northeastern part of the Egéré-Aleksod terrane, corresponding to the eastern boundary of the Archean–Palaeoproterozoic microcontinent LATEA (Central Hoggar). The eastern boundary of the study area corresponds to a Neoproterozoic suture zone separating two old microcontinents, LATEA and the Orosirian Stripe. We deployed two magnetotelluric (MT) profiles consisting of 33 broad-band MT stations and combined these with aeromagnetic data, aiming to define the crustal structure in detail. The resistivity cross-sections obtained from the 3-D inversion of full impedance tensor and tipper data from stations along the profiles, confirm the main Precambrian faults, some of which are covered by Quaternary sediments and hence, have not yet been deciphered. The cross-sections also highlight the Cretaceous–Quaternary sedimentary basins represented by low resistivities. The upper crust is typically cratonic with a high electrical resistivity. On the contrary, the lower crust shows a drastic drop in resistivity (<10 Ωm). The most plausible hypothesis is that the study area corresponds to a Cretaceous rifting zone. The Cretaceous magmatic event and its related fluids and mineralization as well as the recent fluids associated with Cenozoic volcanism, are plausible causes of a very conductive lower crust. However, we cannot exclude other reasons such as: (i) a high-temperature and strongly sheared mobile belt or (ii) a contribution of inheritance involving Pan-African events that affected this former suture area.

Abstract:
A total of 769 adult females belonging to 3 taurine and one zebu cattle populations sampled in 3 provinces of Burkina Faso were assessed for 19 body measurements during two different years (2014 and 2018). The aim of this research was to identify temporal morphological variation in cattle bred in the humid southern zones to obtain empirical evidence supporting a possible introgression of zebu cattle genes into Gourounsi and Lobi taurine cattle breeds. Zebu cattle samples were used as out-group for both 2014 and 2018 subsets. Least square means of body measurements allowed to classify Burkina Faso taurine cattle into three subgroups according to body size (Gourounsi–Sanguié –GourS-, Gourounsi-Nahouri –GourN- and Lobi from the tallest to the smallest respectively). Principal Component Analysis suggested that in 2014, taurine populations were structured. Dispersion map constructed using the two first factors informed that the GourS population was well separated from both the Lobi and the GourN, which, in turn, overlapped. However, in 2018 a strong signal of homogenization was identified, with GourN partially overlapping the other two populations. Linear Discriminant Analysis suggested that about 20% of both GourS and GourN individuals were reciprocally misclassified. Clues for such increase have been pointed out by MANOVA analysis. Although on 2014, Lobi cattle was clearly smaller than Gourounsi and both GourS and GourN populations showed clear differences on body traits, on 2018 it could be assessed an increase in size in Lobi cattle and a strong homogenization signal within Gourounsi cattle. Zebu cattle gene flow southwards in Burkina Faso is likely to have caused these changes, suggesting a fast erosion of taurine cattle genetic background. Abstract:
Introduction. The dynamics of changes in the concentration of polyglutamates of methotrexate (MTPG) over the past 20 years has been studied by several scientifc groups using various methods. For a number of reasons, the results of these studies cannot be called uniform and cannot be confdently projected onto the Russian population of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). At the same time, therapeutic drug monitoring of methotrexate (MT) with clearly defned target values of metabolites could be an extremely useful tool in routine clinical practice.Purpose of the study. To characterize the concentration of MTPG in dynamics during treatment and 12 weeks after discontinuation of MT.Materials and methods. Two patients with early RA were traced 4, 12, 24 weeks after MT appointment, and also 12 weeks after its cancellation due to nausea that appeared during treatment. At each visit, an analysis was made for MTPG content by tandem gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.Results. Against the background of treatment, the signifcantly predominant metabolite was MTPG with three and gour residues of glutamic acid (the so-called long-chain), while 12 weeks after discontinuation, MTPG 2 was the predominant fraction.Conclusions. Low values of MTPG 3 and MTPG 4 with high values of MTPG 2 may indicate a recent initiation of treatment or MTB cancellation within the next 3 months. In the event of subjective adverse reactions (ADRs), it is advisable to consider the possibility of switching to a drug analogue of another manufacturer.

Abstract:
An interesting protocol for classical teleportation of an unknown classical state was recently suggested by Cohen, and by Gour and Meyer. In that protocol, Bob can sample from a probability distribution [Formula: see text] that is given to Alice, even if Alice has absolutely no knowledge about [Formula: see text]. Pursuing a similar line of thought, we suggest here a limited form of non-locality — "classical non-locality." Our non-locality is the (somewhat limited) classical analogue of the Hughston–Jozsa–Wootters (HJW) quantum non-locality. The HJW non-locality (also known as "quantum remote steering") tells us how, for a given density matrix ρ, Alice can generate any ρ-ensemble on the North Star. This is done using surprisingly few resources — one shared entangled state (prepared in advance), one generalized quantum measurement, and no communication. Similarly, our classical non-locality (which we call "classical remote steering") presents how, for a given probability distribution [Formula: see text], Alice can generate any [Formula: see text]-ensemble on the North Star, using only one correlated state (prepared in advance), one (generalized) classical measurement, and no communication. It is important to clarify that while the classical teleportation and the classical non-locality protocols are probably rather insignificant from a classical information processing point of view, they significantly contribute to our understanding of what exactly is quantum in their well established and highly famous quantum analogues.

Abstract:
The 2013 Ontario French Second Language (FSL) Curriculum emphasizes inclusivity and bilingualism; however, many students are recommended to opt out of French Immersion (FI). The opting-out of students may support the strengthening of the program by establishing a reputation of success, but how does it affect the withdrawn child? Are FSL programs using best practices to support all learners equitably, or catering to the elite students as a result of misconceptions, lack of resources and professional training? To address these questions, an exploratory and focused literature review of Canadian publications, Ministry of Education documentations and global articles on the topic of bilingualism was conducted, focusing on the works of Genesee (2007) and Baker (2006) on natural language acquisition, Arnett and Mady (2017) on teachers’ and parents’ perspectives, and Gour (2015) and Wise (2012) who report on misconceptions regarding second language education. Emerging trends indicate that elitist practices and unequal access to FSL programs remain a prominent issue in Ontario classrooms. With the understanding that students with learning disabilities (LDs) can succeed in the FI program, removing these learners may in turn, be a disservice to their overall learning. Findings presented in this paper support the need to examine how learners’ abilities are being perceived by educational professionals to provide the necessary tools and supports for success, appropriate training to mitigate misconceptions, as well as retain a reputation for success in FSL programs through equitable means. Acknowledging such discrepancies between what serves as best teaching practice and making it possible in the classroom is necessary to reduce excuses of unpreparedness to meet students’ diverse needs and initiate reflection and training programs that prepare teachers to teach inclusively to all.

Abstract:
Fusarium oxysporum is responsible for a large range of diseases on economically important crops such as bitter gourd and bottle gourd. Pathogenicity and aggressiveness of F. oxysporum in bitter gourd and bottle gourd isolated from two breeding stations of East-West Company in the Philippines namely San Ildefonso, Bulacan and Lipa, Batangas were tested. Eleven F. oxysporum isolates from bitter gourd and 12 isolates from bottle gourd were inoculated on 7-day and 1-month-old bitter gourd and bottle gourd plants in the greenhouse. All F. oxysporum isolates from bitter gourd were pathogenic on 7-day-old and 1-month-old bitter gourd and nine out of 12 isolates from bottle gourd were pathogenic on bottle gourd. Three isolates from the infested soil were non-pathogenic on bottle gourd. There was a significant difference in aggressiveness of the isolates on their natural hosts (P ≤ 0.05). There also was a significant difference in the aggressiveness of isolates pathogenic on bitter gourd from Batangas and Bulacan (P ≤ 0.05) but isolates from Batangas and Bulacan had similar aggressiveness as bottle gourd (P ≥ 0.05). Aggressiveness of F. oxysporum on 7-day-old bitter gourd and bottle gourd was significantly different compared to those on 1-month-old plants, demonstrating an effect of the host age onaggressiveness. Correlations between aggressiveness of F. oxysporum isolates on 7-day-old and 1-month-old bitter gourd and bottle gourd were moderate (r = 0.63, 0.78). Out of 12 isolates from bottle gourd, only one isolate was pathogenic on 7-day-old bitter gourd. Four of the isolates from bitter gourd were pathogenic on 7-day-old bottle gourd but not on 1-month-old bottle gourd. No cross infection was observed on mature plants.
