Abstract:
ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter proteins are a gene super-family in plants and play vital roles in growth, development, and response to abiotic and biotic stresses. The ABC transporters have been identified in crop plants such as rice and buckwheat, but little is known about them in soybean. Soybean is an important oil crop and is one of the five major crops in the world. In this study, 255 ABC genes that putatively encode ABC transporters were identified from soybean through bioinformatics and then categorized into eight subfamilies, including 7 ABCAs, 52 ABCBs, 48 ABCCs, 5 ABCDs, 1 ABCEs, 10 ABCFs, 111 ABCGs, and 21 ABCIs. Their phylogenetic relationships, gene structure, and gene expression profiles were characterized. Segmental duplication was the main reason for the expansion of the GmABC genes. Ka/Ks analysis suggested that intense purifying selection was accompanied by the evolution of GmABC genes. The genome-wide collinearity of soybean with other species showed that GmABCs were relatively conserved and that collinear ABCs between species may have originated from the same ancestor. Gene expression analysis of GmABCs revealed the distinct expression pattern in different tissues and diverse developmental stages. The candidate genes GmABCB23, GmABCB25, GmABCB48, GmABCB52, GmABCI1, GmABCI5, and GmABCI13 were responsive to Al toxicity. This work on the GmABC gene family provides useful information for future studies on ABC transporters in soybean and potential targets for the cultivation of new germplasm resources of aluminum-tolerant soybean.

Abstract:
Gmach Technologii Chemicznej powstał w latach 30. XX wieku. Jest jednym z dwóch gmachów, autorstwa ówczesnego dziekana Wydziału Architektury – prof. Czesława Przybylskiego, wchodzących w skład zabytkowego zespołu Politechniki Warszawskiej. Gmach zaprojektowano z uwzględnieniem specyficznych rozwiązań funkcjonalnych i technologicznych, w oparciu o najnowsze wówczas wzorce europejskie i amerykańskie. W architektonicznej formie Przybylski nawiązał do geometrycznych nurtów awangardowych. W wieloczłonowej, kaskadowo spiętrzonej bryle wydobył elementy strukturalne, potraktowane w sposób rzeźbiarski, przy jednoczesnym zachowaniu jedności funkcji i formy. Całość wpisała się w bryłowo-fakturowy warszawski funkcjonalizm nurtu „szarej cegły”.Gmach uległ znacznym zniszczeniom w czasie Powstania Warszawskiego (zniszczenia stropów, wypalenie wnętrz). Powojenna odbudowa i modernizacje nastawione były na usprawnienie i intensyfikację funkcji utylitarnych, z pominięciem odtworzeń pierwotnych układów i historycznego wystroju.Ostatnie dekady przyniosły zmianę podejścia do zabytkowych gmachów Politechniki. Jest to doskonale widoczne m.in. na przykładzie gmachu Technologii Chemicznej, gdzie od kilku lat trwają prace remontowo-modernizacyjne, mające na celu przywrócenie świetności elewacjom i adaptację wnętrz na nowoczesne laboratoria. Istotnym elementem tych działań jest rewaloryzacja holu wejściowego i głównej auli wykładowej. Przeprowadzone prace wykonano w oparciu o badania historyczno-konserwatorskie. Dzięki zachowanemu oryginalnemu projektowi prof. Czesława Przybylskiego możliwa była przestrzenna rekonstrukcja audytorium i przywrócenie pierwotnego układu wnętrzom holu wejściowego. Użycie nowoczesnych rozwiązań technologicznych i materiałowych nadało wnętrzom współczesny charakter, bez znamion stylizacji, przy jednoczesnym odtworzeniu cech charakterystycznych projektu prof. Przybylskiego. Dobra współpraca pomiędzy administratorami gmachu, architektem, historykiem architektury i służbami konserwatorskimi zaowocowała dobrym efektem końcowym – przywróceniem wartości architektonicznych przy jednoczesnym podniesieniu walorów funkcjonalnych zabytkowemu gmachowi Technologii Chemicznej, wybitemu przedstawicielowi przedwojennego warszawskiego modernizmu.

Abstract:
ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters constitute one of the largest gene families in all living organisms, most of which mediate transport across biological membranes by hydrolyzing ATP. However, detailed studies of ABC transporter genes in the important oil crop, soybean, are still lacking. In the present study, we carried out genome-wide identification and phylogenetic and transcriptional analyses of the ABC gene family in G. max. A total of 261 G. max ABC (GmABCs) genes were identified and unevenly localized onto 20 chromosomes. Referring to protein-domain orientation and phylogeny, the GmABC family could be classified into eight (ABCA-ABCG and ABCI) subfamilies and ABCG were the most abundantly present. Further, investigation of whole genome duplication (WGD) signifies the role of segmental duplication in the expansion of the ABC transporter gene family in soybean. The Ka/Ks ratio indicates that several duplicated genes are governed by intense purifying selection during evolution. In addition, in silico expression analysis based on RNA-sequence using publicly available database revealed that ABC transporters are differentially expressed in tissues and developmental stages and in dehydration. Overall, we provide an extensive overview of the GmABC transporter gene family and it promises the primary basis for the study in development and response to dehydration tolerance.

Abstract:
Warszawskie koszary z czasów panowania króla Stanisława Augusta nie stały się dotychczas przedmiotem szczegółowych badań, zupełnie też niewykorzystane pozostały zarówno źródła archiwalne, jak i drukowane. Wobec unicestwienia stołecznych budynków koszarowych z czasów Oświecenia – najpierw w wyniku rozmaitych przekształceń, później zaś całkowitego ich zburzenia – tym większego znaczenia nabiera zachowana ikonografia, a zwłaszcza akwarele Zygmunta Vogla, który je uwiecznił. Realizm i staranność tych prac pozwala dokonać architektonicznej analizy namalowanych obiektów. Wybudowanie koszar powierzono majorowi Stanisławowi Zawadzkiemu, sprawującemu w latach 1777-1795 urząd architekta wojsk koronnych. Swe umiejętności projektanckie doskonalił on niegdyś w cieszącej się renomą rzymskiej Akademii św. Łukasza. Zyskał już uprzednio uznanie, projektując w 1782 r. gmach koszar w Kamieńcu Podolskim. Wzniesienie go w tamtejszej twierdzy, która broniła południowo-wschodnich rubieży Rzeczypospolitej, miało w intencji monarchy istotnie przyczynić się do podniesienia obronności kraju. Stąd wzięła się chęć zrealizowania stworzonego przez Zawadzkiego projektu jako dzieła wzorcowego: odznaczającego się nowoczesnością formy zewnętrznej i funkcjonalnie rozwiązanych wnętrz. Jeszcze wcześniej, w 1781 r., architekt wystawił w Warszawie koszary Kadeckie, położone opodal pałacu Kazimierzowskiego, stanowiącego podówczas główną siedzibę założonej przez króla Stanisława Augusta Szkoły Rycerskiej. Pozyskanie środków finansowych i formalny nadzór nad wznoszonymi gmachami warszawskich koszar poruczono wyznaczonej królewskim rozporządzeniem Komisji Lokacyjnej. Ludność stolicy czuła się utrudzona obowiązkiem nieustannego „goszczenia” żołnierzy, więc obietnica uwolnienia jej od tej powinności pozwoliła zebrać wystarczające fundusze na budowę koszar dla stołecznego garnizonu. Celem poboru owego podatku została w 1784 r. sporządzona specjalna Taryfa miasta Warszawy (nadająca po raz pierwszy wszystkim posesjom konsekwentną numerację). Inwestycja miała zresztą same zalety. Nie tylko uwalniała mieszkańców od przekleństwa kwaterunku, lecz także, gromadząc daną jednostkę wojska w jednej przestrzeni, w sposób istotny wpływała na subordynację żołnierzy oraz ich dyspozycyjność. Cała inwestycja – realizowana do 1788 r. – obejmowała cztery zespoły koszarowe w różnych częściach miasta. Na skarpie rozciągającej się wzdłuż Wisły od strony północnej mieściły się koszary Gwardii Pieszej Koronnej, a od strony południowej – koszary Gwardii Pieszej Litewskiej. Dalej od rzeki, okalając Starą i Nową Warszawę od zachodu, zlokalizowane były na północy koszary Artylerii Koronnej, a na południu koszary Gwardii Konnej Koronnej. Wszakże w jednym tylko przypadku – koszar Artylerii Koronnej miała to być budowa całkowicie nowego, wznoszonego od podstaw kompleksu, w dwóch innych: koszar Gwardii Pieszej Koronnej oraz koszar Gwardii Pieszej Litewskiej – daleko posunięta rozbudowa albo istniejącego już założenia koszarowego, albo budynku cywilnego wcześniej przeznaczenia, w przypadku zaś ostatnim – koszar Gwardii Konnej Koronnej – gruntowna renowacja funkcjonującego zespołu. Za dzieło najważniejsze – bo pozwalające projektantowi na największą swobodę –należy uznać koszary Artyleryjskie. Ich kompozycja zamknięta została w rozległym czworoboku zewnętrznych skrzydeł mieszkalnych, dwudziestotrzyosiowego od frontu oraz dwudziestosześcioosiowych bocznych. Owe skrzydła wydzielały trzy wewnętrzne dziedzińce, dwa mniejsze kwadratowe, tylne, oraz większy prostokątny, przedni. Elewacje zyskały surowy wystrój. Najokazalsza była fasada, rozczłonkowana trzema ryzalitami, ujętymi artykulacją porządkową, z których środkowy, ozdobiony dodatkowo kolumnowym portykiem zwieńczonym trójkątnym frontonem, mieścił bramę wjazdową koszar, a boczne wieńczyła dekoracja rzeźbiarska wyraźnie mówiąca nie tylko o militarnym przeznaczeniu gmachu, lecz także o ulokowaniu w nim siedziby artylerzystów. Wystrój, choć zgodnie z zasadami surowy, zyskał jednak dość wykwintny charakter, dostosowany do lokalizacji gmachu w centrum stolicy Rzeczypospolitej. Projektując koszary Artylerii Koronnej, Zawadzki nie naśladował żadnego konkretnego wzoru, lecz wykorzystywał twórczo najnowsze europejskie trendy. Może je udokumentować niemal współcześnie powstały plan koszar stworzony przez Jean-Françoisa Neufforge’a i zamieszony w suplemencie do jego autorskiego wydawnictwa Recueil élémentaire d'architecture…, które opublikowane zostało w Paryżu w latach 1775-1780. Koncepcji Zawadzkiego nie należy wszakże traktować jako modyfikacji francuskiego abrysu, gdyż nie na tym opiera się ich podobieństwo. Identyczne bowiem są nie formy, lecz zasady stosowane przez obu architektów: komponowanie – przy zachowaniu ścisłych reguł symetrii – monumentalnego, wieloskrzydłowego gmachu z wewnętrznymi dziedzińcami, z praktycznymi rozwiązaniami wynikającymi z powtarzalności starannie rozplanowanych jednostkowych modułów formalno-funkcjonalnych, dostosowanych do zróżnicowanego poziomu komfortu kwater oficerskich i żołnierskich. Skala przedsięwzięcia, jakie podejmowano przystępując do budowy stołecznych koszar, była w stanisławowskiej Warszawie bez precedensu. W 1788 r. podawano, że „na cztery fabryki koszar wyszło z kasy Komisji Lokacyjnej 1 473 693 zł”. Była to suma ogromna. Inne dane statystyczne również wkraczają w strefę wielkich liczb. Przy czterech prowadzonych równolegle „fabrykach” zatrudnionych było jednocześnie ponad tysiąc robotników, co również stanowiło liczbę znaczącą, zważywszy że ludność całej Warszawy w 1784 r. liczyła 63 tysiące mieszkańców. Należało zapanować nad tak gigantycznym zespołem zaangażowanych pracowników, skupionych na odległych od siebie placach, ale też – jak rzemieślnicy czy dostawcy – rozproszonych po całej ówczesnej aglomeracji. Front robót budowlanych został rozwinięty tak szeroko, że w roku 1785 cena cegły w stolicy gwałtownie podskoczyła o jedną trzecią. Pierwsze tworzone w Warszawie dzieła klasycystyczne nie mogły jeszcze przesądzić o zmianie jej barokowego oblicza. Sprawiły to dopiero rozrzucone w różnych częściach miasta monumentalne gmachy koszar, „wszystkie inne budowle tej stolicy wielkością i ozdobą architektury przewyższające”, a zwłaszcza odznaczające się znakomitym wyeksponowaniem w przestrzeni urbanistycznej koszary Artylerii Koronnej i koszary Gwardii Pieszej Litewskiej. Cechą wyraźnie je też wyróżniającą spośród innych dzieł, które nierzadko, wprowadzając klasycystyczną stylistykę, nie odcinały się całkowicie od baroku czy rokoka, była konsekwencja w zastosowaniu surowych form. Z jednej strony wynikało to z przyjęcia propagowanej przez teoretyków architektury zasady stosowności odniesionej do architektury militarnej, z drugiej zaś z wyraźnej osobistej predylekcji Zawadzkiego do takiej właśnie „rewolucyjnej” – jak to niekiedy określali badacze – odmiany klasycyzmu. Powstałe w stolicy budowle garnizonowe stały się istotnym tytułem do zasłużonej sławy Zawadzkiego pośród współczesnych, którzy zgodnie twierdzili, „iż wystawione przez niego gmachy koszar wojskowych w Warszawie i Kamieńcu Podolskim z nieporównaną oszczędnością nie tylko wygodę wojsku i mieszkańcom tych miast przyniosły, ale ozdobę w kraju i zaszczyt narodowi do późnej potomności przeniosą”. Spoglądając zaś z perspektywy ponad dwóch stuleci musimy w Stanisławie Zawadzkim docenić znakomitego architekta klasycystę, który miał odwagę wypowiadać się w najbardziej surowych, kubicznych formach, potrafił wykorzystywać najnowsze europejskie trendy sztuki architektonicznej, umiał też sprawnie rozwiązywać skomplikowane zagadnienia zarówno konstrukcyjne, jak i funkcjonalne tworzonych dzieł.

Abstract:
Ammonium transporters (AMTs) are responsible for ammonium absorption and utilization in plants. As a high-nitrogen-demand crop and a legume, soybean can also obtain ammonium from symbiotic root nodules in which nitrogen-fixing rhizobia convert atmospheric nitrogen (N2) into ammonium. Although increasing evidence implicates vital roles of ammonium transport in soybean, no systematic analyses of AMTs in soybean (named GmAMTs) or functional analyses of GmAMTs are available. In this study, we aimed to identify all GmAMT family genes and gain a better understanding of the characteristics of GmAMT genes in soybean. Here, due to the improved genome assembly and annotation of soybean, we tried to generate a phylogenetic tree of 16 GmAMTs based on new information. Consistent with reported data, GmAMT family members can be divided into two subfamilies of GmAMT1 (6 genes) and GmAMT2 (10 genes). Interestingly, unlike Arabidopsis, which has only one AMT2, soybean has substantially increased the number of GmAMT2s, suggesting enhanced demand for ammonium transport. These genes were distributed on nine chromosomes, of which GmAMT1.3, GmAMT1.4, and GmAMT1.5 were three tandem repeat genes. The gene structures and conserved protein motifs of the GmAMT1 and GmAMT2 subfamilies were different. All the GmAMTs were membrane proteins with varying numbers of transmembrane domains ranging from 4 to 11. Promoter analysis found that these GmAMT genes have phytohormone-, circadian control-, and organ expression-related cis-elements in their promoters, and notably, there were nodulation-specific and nitrogen-responsive elements in the promoters of the GmAMT1 and GmAMT2 genes. Further expression data showed that these GmAMT family genes exhibited different spatiotemporal expression patterns across tissues and organs. In addition, GmAMT1.1, GmAMT1.2, GmAMT2.2, and GmAMT2.3 were responsive to nitrogen treatment, while GmAMT1.2, GmAMT1.3, GmAMT1.4, GmAMT1.5, GmAMT1.6, GmAMT2.1, GmAMT2.2, GmAMT2.3, GmAMT3.1, and GmAMT4.6 showed circadian rhythms in transcription. RT-qPCR validated the expression patterns of GmAMTs in response to different forms of nitrogen and exogenous ABA treatments. Gene expression analysis also confirmed that GmAMTs are regulated by key nodulation gene GmNINa, indicating a role of GmAMTs in symbiosis. Together, these data indicate that GmAMTs may differentially and/or redundantly regulate ammonium transport during plant development and in response to environmental factors. These findings provide a basis for future research on the functions of GmAMTs and the mechanisms through which GmAMTs regulate ammonium metabolism and nodulation in soybean.

Abstract:
Ground-motion amplification factors (GMAFs) are used to characterize amplification of a ground motion propagating from the bedrock to the ground surface. They are usually determined by ground response analysis, in which the soil parameter variabilities and input motion uncertainties contribute to their uncertainty. The construction of design response spectra requires mean GMAFs or GMAFs with different probability levels. Thus, it is significant to study the sensitivity of soil parameter variabilities and the number of random soil profiles for the estimation of GMAFs. This study investigates the minimum number of random soil profiles required to represent the extent of the epistemic uncertainty in the GMAFs obtained from ground response analysis. It shows that at least 20 and 60 random soil profiles are respectively required to estimate the mean and standard deviations of GMAFs with the maximum relative difference below 10%. In addition, potential reasons for a reduction in the mean GMAFs resulting from randomization of the soil column properties are discussed.

Abstract:
Artykuł porusza kwestię ochrony wartości przestrzennych i kulturowych Śródmieścia Lublina. Analiza kompozycyjna oraz funkcjonalna istniejącej zabudowy uwzględniającej modernistyczny gmach Powszechnego Domu Towarowego skłania do dyskusji na temat konieczności ingerencji we wskazaną tkankę miejską. Wartość „dodana”, efekt synergii, objawia się w efektach uzyskanych poprzez zachowanie istniejącej zabudowy, nadanie jej nowej wartości użytkowej przy poszanowaniu i uwydatnieniu wzajemnych relacji pomiędzy pierwotną funkcją,estetyką i kompozycją przestrzenną. Tadeusz Witkowski projektując w 1959 roku Powszechny Dom Towarowy (PDT) zmierzył się z lokalizacją wielkopowierzchniowej funkcji handlowej w ścisłym Centrum miasta Lublin. Wyczucie przez architekta kompozycji bryły, zrozumienie przestrzeni i zachowanie skali otaczającej zabudowy przyczyniło się do podkreślenia wartościowych osi widokowych i kompozycyjnych. W 2010 r. spółka inwestorska, właściciel budynku PDT, przedstawiła plan wyburzenia modernistycznego gmachu i powstania w tym miejscu nowoczesnej galerii handlowej. Dyskusja na temat przyszłości spuścizny Witkowskiego podzieliła środowisko lubelskich architektów. Jedną z form sprzeciwu i jego argumentacji były Warsztaty „Reaktywacja”, które odbyły się przy współpracy „Modernizmu w Lublinie” (inicjatywa mgr inż. arch. Marcina Semeniuka) oraz Studenckiego Koła Naukowego Architektury Współczesnej Politechniki Lubelskiej w 2015r. [1]. Młodzi architekci i studenci opracowali koncepcję adaptacji budynku PDT uwzględniające uatrakcyjnienie funkcji handlowej oraz wprowadzenie nowych, nastawionych na potrzeby i rozwój mieszkańców Lublina. Legumes (members of family Fabaceae) establish a symbiotic relationship with nitrogen-fixing soil bacteria (rhizobia) to overcome nitrogen source limitation. Single root hair epidermal cells serve as the entry point for bacteria to infect the host root, leading to development of a new organ, the nodule, which the bacteria colonize. In the present study, the putative role of a soybean acyl carrier protein (ACP), GmACP (Glyma18g47950), was examined in nodulation. ACP represent an essential cofactor protein in fatty acid biosynthesis. Phylogenetic analysis of plant ACP protein sequences showed that GmACP was classified in a legume-specific clade. Quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction analysis demonstrated that GmACP was expressed in all soybean tissues but showed higher transcript accumulation in nodule tissue. RNA interference-mediated gene silencing of GmACP resulted in a significant reduction in nodule numbers on soybean transgenic roots. Fluorescent protein-labeled GmACP was localized to plastids in planta, the site of de novo fatty acid biosynthesis in plants. Analysis of the fatty acid content of root tissue silenced for GmACP expression, as determined by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry, showed an approximately 22% reduction, specifically in palmitic and stearic acid. Taken together, our data provide evidence that GmACP plays an important role in nodulation.

P-type ATPases are transmembrane pumps of cations and phospholipids. They are energized by hydrolysis of ATP and play important roles in a wide range of fundamental cellular and physiological processes during plant growth and development. However, the P-type ATPase superfamily genes have not been characterized in soybean. Here, we performed genome-wide bioinformatic and expression analyses of the P-type ATPase superfamily genes in order to explore the potential functions of P-type ATPases in soybean. A total of 105 putative P-type ATPase genes were identified in the soybean genome. Phylogenetic relationship analysis of the P-type ATPase genes indicated that they can be divided into five subfamilies including P1B, P2A/B, P3A, P4 and P5. Proteins belonging to the same subfamily shared conserved domains. Forty-seven gene pairs were related to segmental duplication, which contributed to the expansion of the P-type ATPase genes during the evolution of soybean. Most of the P-type ATPase genes contained hormonal- and/or stress-related cis-elements in their promoter regions. Expression analysis by retrieving RNA-sequencing datasets suggested that almost all of the P-type ATPase genes could be detected in soybean tissues, and some genes showed tissue-specific expression patterns. Nearly half of the P-type ATPase genes were found to be significantly induced or repressed under stresses like salt, drought, cold, flooding, and/or phosphate starvation. Four genes were significantly affected by rhizobia inoculation in root hairs. The induction of two P2B-ATPase genes, GmACA1 and GmACA2, by phosphate starvation was confirmed by quantitative RT-PCR. This study provides information for understanding the evolution and biological functions of the P-type ATPase superfamily genes in soybean.

Urban parks have been studied for their effects on health and the environment. Accessing park data from reliable and comparable sources remains challenging, reinforcing the importance of standardized search tools, notably in Latin America. We designed a systematized methodology to identify processes of accessing, collecting, verifying, and harmonizing urban park spatial data in all Brazilian capitals included in the Urban Health in Latin America (SALURBAL) project. We developed a research protocol using official and non-official sources combining the results of Google Maps (GMaps) points and OpenStreetMap (OSM) polygons–GMaps-OSM. Descriptive analyses included the frequency of the distribution of parks before and after harmonization stratified by data source. We used the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) to assess agreement in the area between official and GMaps-OSM data. Official data were obtained for 16 cities; for the remaining 11 capitals, we used GMaps-OSM. After verification and harmonization, 302 urban parks were obtained from official data and 128 from GMaps-OSM. In a sub-study of the 16 cities with official data (n = 302 parks), we simulated a collection of non-official data using GMaps-OSM and OSM only. From GMaps-OSM, we obtained 142 parks, and from OSM, 230 parks. Statistical analysis showed a better agreement between official data and OSM. After completing verification and harmonization, the complete dataset (official and GMaps-OSM) included 430 urban parks with a total area of 145.14 km2. The mean number of parks across cities was 16, with a mean size area of 0.33 km2. The median number of parks was nine, with a median area of 0.07 km2. This study highlights the importance of creating mechanisms to access, collect, harmonize, and verify urban park data, which is essential for examining the impact of parks on health. It also stresses the importance of providing reliable urban park spatial data for city officials.

Aquaporins (AQPs) are one diverse family of membrane channel proteins that play crucial regulatory roles in plant stress physiology. However, the heat stress responsiveness of AQP genes in soybean remains poorly understood. In this study, 75 non-redundant AQP encoding genes were identified in soybean. Multiple sequence alignments showed that all GmAQP proteins possessed the conserved regions, which contained 6 trans-membrane domains (TM1 to TM6). Different GmAQP members consisted of distinct Asn-Pro-Ala (NPA) motifs, aromatic/arginine (ar/R) selectivity filters and Froger’s positions (FPs). Phylogenetic analyses distinguished five sub-families within these GmAQPs: 24 GmPIPs, 24 GmTIPs, 17 GmNIPs, 8 GmSIPs, and 2 GmXIPs. Promoter cis-acting elements analyses revealed that distinct number and composition of heat stress and hormone responsive elements existed in different promoter regions of GmAQPs. QRT-PCR assays demonstrated that 12 candidate GmAQPs with relatively extensive expression in various tissues or high expression levels in root or leaf exhibited different expression changes under heat stress and hormone cues (abscisic acid (ABA), l-aminocyclopropane-l-carboxylic acid (ACC), salicylic acid (SA) and methyl jasmonate (MeJA)). Furthermore, the promoter activity of one previously functionally unknown AQP gene-GmTIP2;6 was investigated in transgenic Arabidopsis plants. The beta-glucuronidase (GUS) activity driven by the promoter of GmTIP2;6 was strongly induced in the heat- and ACC-treated transgenic plants and tended to be accumulated in the hypocotyls, vascular bundles, and leaf trichomes. These results will contribute to uncovering the potential functions and molecular mechanisms of soybean GmAQPs in mediating heat stress and hormone signal responses.

W 1921 r. pojawił się pomysł wybudowania nowego gmachu szkoły. Przez kilkanaście lat trwały poszukiwania środków finansowych na ten cel. Ostatecznie prace budowlane ruszyły w lipcu 1935 r. Budynek oddano do użytku we wrześniu 1936 r. W listopadzie 1937 r. szkole nadano imię Powstańców 1863 r. Poniższy artykuł opisuje proces budowy trwający niemal cały okres międzywojenny. Construction of the school building in Tuliszków in the interwar period. The beginnings of education in Tuliszków date back to the fifteenth century. A parish school was established at the time. In 1818, an elementary school was established, which ended in 1830. The school was reactivated in 1850. After Poland regained its independence, the number of children attending school was constantly increasing. In 1921, the idea of building a new school building appeared. For several years, searching for funds for this purpose has been ongoing. Finally, construction work began in July 1935. The building was put into use in September 1936. In November 1937, the school was named Powstańców 1863. After 1945 the building was significantly expanded. The submitted article describing the construction process that lasted almost the whole interwar period.

During public policy information diffusion, policy interpretation on government microblogs and public attention interact, but there are certain differences. We construct a research framework for the heterogeneous diffusion of public policy information on government microblogs. An empirical study is conducted based on the Network Agenda Setting (NAS) model. First, a combination of topic mining and content analysis is used to identify the issues discussed by government microblogs and citizens. Then, we use the importance of nodes in Degree Structure (DS) and Flow Structure (FS) entropy to measure their attention to different issues. Finally, the Quadratic Assignment Procedure (QAP) correlation and regression analysis explore the degree of heterogeneity and causal relationship between government microblog agenda networks (GMANs) and public agenda networks (PANs). We find that GMANs influence PANs and the degree of heterogeneity between them is relatively low at the beginning of policy implementation. However, as government microblogs reveal positive effects of policy implementation, they fail to influence PANs effectively, and there is a greater degree of heterogeneity between them. Moreover, PANs do not significantly affect GMANs. The dynamic leading relationship between GMANs and PANs in public policy diffusion is clarified, helping to shape the image of digital government in public opinion.

Abstract:
Following Germany’s unification in 1871, Gdansk was a major municipal centre and a port on the Empire’s map, however it was well past its heyday. In the Gründerzeit, it could not reach as quick a pace of development as other cities of the Reich, and by the late 19th century it did not boast any university. The attempt to catch up on the substantial delay in creating modern public architecture in Gdansk was only made after the fortifications had been dismantled (1895–97). A triangular plot close to St James’s Gate was reserved for the purpose of education and science. It was there that a seat of the city archive and the building of the Secondary School of SS Peter and Paul (Oberrealschule St. Petri und Pauli) were raised. The third edifice was planned as the new home for the Gdansk Library. The precious book collection, whose core was formed by the collection bequeathed by Joannes Bernardinus Bonifacius d’Oria of Naples in 1596, was kept in a former Franciscan monastery, and later in St James’s Church. Attempts to raise a new building to house the collection in the 1820s as designed by Carl Samuel Held failed. Neither was the plan to erect the new library building as an extension of the Dungeon and Prison Gate Complex implemented. It was only Karl Kleefeld’s design from 1901–1902 planning to raise an impressive Gothic Revival complex that finally came to life. Completed in January 1905, the Library welcomed the first readers already on 16 February. Kleefeld designed the building’s mass on the L -plan layout with a truncated corner and wings. The main reading room boasted elegant, sumptuous, and coherent wooden furnishing, and the gallery’s centrepiece was a ledge decorated with 14 panels featuring bas -relief cartouches with the emblems of the cities of West Prussia. Differing in size, the edifices, were given red -brick elevations with plastered details and glazed green filling, with a sgraffito frieze on the reading room elevation between the ground and first floors. It was the Gdansk Renaissance that dominated in public buildings’ architecture of the city in the last quarter of the 19th century. The resumed popularity of Gothic Revival in its local forms in Gdansk public buildings’ architecture, such as those in the afore - -described Kleefeld’s designs, resulted undoubtedly from a rapid growth of research into historic structures, yet on the other hand it reflected the return to the local tradition (Heimatschutz), which could be observed in the architecture of the German Reich at the time. Judged in the context of an extremely modest programme of public projects in Gdansk of the period, the creation of the Bildungsdreick with the edifices of the archive, library, and secondary school is to be regarded as a major event in the history of creating public architecture of the city. As seen against other projects of the time in other Reich cities, the Gdansk City Library stood out neither with its scale, nor innovatory character of the layout solutions. What, however, makes it a special facility are architectural forms that reveal its contribution to the search for the expression of the local tradition. This kind of an archaeological approach to the past and a compilatory additive method of juxtaposing quotes from various buildings, which may have also arisen from the lack of talent of the architect, were undoubtedly in decline in the early 20th century.

The building an edifice for the Legation of Norway in Warsaw, in the years 1946 to 1949, remains one of the most important events in the Polish-Norwegian relations that took place after the Second World War. Alfred Danielsen, a Norwegian envoy in Warsaw, was the main initiator and organizer of the project. In sections I and II, we find a short biography of Danielsen. It includes the first major actions – such as purchasing of the burnt-out premises at Chopin Street 2A and information about how the building works were started. Another section refers to the problem of adding extra plots of land situated at Chopin Street 4, and the way Danielsen resolved this issue with the Warsaw authorities. The next two sections refer to the building process, implemented according to the Norwegian Building Committee guidelines. Finally, the last section describes the repair works in 1949 and moving of the Legation to its own building.

The Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA) of the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) was designed to serve two purposes: assess appli cants' ability to think critically and communicate complex ideas and aid MBA programs in diagnosing any deficiencies in accepted candidates in order to place them in appropriate classes. To determine how programs are using the AWA scores, we surveyed the 121 member schools of the Graduate Manage ment Council. Eighty-six percent of the fifty-nine respondents indicated that they do indeed use the scores to refine their admissions decisions, but only a few schools use the test diagnostically in making such other decisions as plac ing students in writing development courses, waving communication require ments, or granting assistantships.

Abstract:
Alcohol withdrawal syndrome (AWS) represents an adverse consequence of chronic alcohol use that may lead to serious complications. Therefore, AWS requires timely attention based on its early recognition, where easy-to-apply diagnostic tools are desirable. Our aim was to characterize the performance of a short-scale AST (Anxiety, Sweats, Tremors) in patients from public general hospitals. We conducted a cross-sectional study of patients attended at the Emergency Department diagnosed with AWS. Three scales were applied: CIWA-Ar (Clinical Institute Retirement Assessment Scale-Revised), GMAWS (Glasgow Modified Alcohol Withdrawal Syndrome) and AST. Cronbach’s alpha and Cohen’s kappa tests were used for reliability and concordance. Factorial analysis and diagnostic performance including ROC curve were carried out. Sixty-eight males with a mean age of 41.2 years old, with high school education and robust alcohol consumption, were included. Mean scores for CIWA-Ar, GMWAS and AST were 17.4 ± 11.2, 3.9 ± 2.3 and 3.8 ± 2.6, respectively, without significant differences. The AST scale showed an acceptable reliability and concordance (0.852 and 0.439; p < 0.0001) compared with CIWA-Ar and GMAWS. AST component analysis evidenced tremor (77.5% variance), sweat (12.1% variance) and anxiety (10.4% variance). Diagnostic performance of the AST scale was similar to the GMAWS scale, evidencing a sensitivity of 84%, specificity of 83.3% and Area Under the Curve (AUC) of 0.837 to discriminate severe AWS, according to CIWA-Ar. The performance of the AST scale to evaluate AWS is comparable with the commonly used CIWA-Ar and GMAWS scales. AST further represents an easy-to-apply instrument.

Graphene is a carbon-based nanomaterial used in various industries to improve the performance of hundreds of materials. For instance, graphene-like materials have been employed as asphalt binder modifying agents in pavement engineering. In the literature, it has been reported that (in comparison to an unmodified binder) the Graphene Modified Asphalt Binders (GMABs) exhibit an enhanced performance grade, a lower thermal susceptibility, a higher fatigue life, and a decreased accumulation of permanent deformations. Nonetheless, although GMABs stand out significantly from traditional alternatives, there is still no consensus on their behavior regarding chemical, rheological, microstructural, morphological, thermogravimetric, and surface topography properties. Therefore, this research conducted a literature review on the properties and advanced characterization techniques of GMABs. Thus, the laboratory protocols covered by this manuscript are atomic force microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, dynamic shear rheometer, elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Consequently, the main contribution of this investigation to the state-of-the-art is the identification of the prominent trends and gaps in the current state of knowledge.

The development of Medium Access Control (MAC) protocols for Internet of Things should consider various aspects such as energy saving, scalability for a wide number of nodes, and grouping awareness. Although numerous protocols consider these aspects in the limited view of handling the medium access, the proposed Grouping MAC (GMAC) exploits prior knowledge of geographic node distribution in the environment and their priority levels. Such awareness enables GMAC to significantly reduce the number of collisions and prolong the network lifetime. GMAC is developed on the basis of five cycles that manage data transmission between sensors and cluster head and between cluster head and sink. These two stages of communication increase the efficiency of energy consumption for transmitting packets. In addition, GMAC contains slot decomposition and assignment based on node priority, and, therefore, is a grouping-aware protocol. Compared with standard benchmarks IEEE 802.15.4 and industrial automation standard 100.11a and user-defined grouping, GMAC protocols generate a Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR) higher than 90%, whereas the PDR of benchmark is as low as 75% in some scenarios and 30% in others. In addition, the GMAC accomplishes lower end-to-end (e2e) delay than the least e2e delay of IEEE with a difference of 3 s. Regarding energy consumption, the consumed energy is 28.1 W/h for GMAC-IEEE Energy Aware (EA) and GMAC-IEEE, which is less than that for IEEE 802.15.4 (578 W/h) in certain scenarios.

Ks. Stanisław Bednarski SJ (1896-1942), jezuita z Prowincji Małopolskiej Towarzystwa Jezusowego, z entuzjazmem i energią przystąpił do realizacji podjętej przez prof. W. Konopczyńskiego wiekopomnej narodowej biografii – Polskiego Słownika Biograficznego (PSB). Bardzo szybko stał się jednym z jego najbardziej aktywnych współpracowników. 2 października 1937 r. został członkiem Komitetu Redakcyjnego PSB. Miał świadomość, że uczestniczy w tworzeniu trwałego pomnika kultury narodowej w postaci zbioru życiorysów ludzi różnych grup i zawodów, którzy na przestrzeni wieków przyczynili się do powstania gmachu kultury narodowej. Wybitnymi budowniczymi tego gmachu było także wielu jego współbraci zakonnych z Towarzystwa Jezusowego. W sześciu tomach PSB zamieścił 58 biogramów polskich jezuitów, którzy działali na ziemiach Rzeczypospolitej Obojga Narodów w XVII i XVIII wieku. W sposób rzeczowy, bezstronny i obiektywny przedstawił ich wkład do kultury narodowej. W biogramach wykorzystał bogaty materiał archiwalny zebrany przede wszystkim w centralnym Archiwum Towarzystwa Jezusowego w Valkenburgu (Holandia), Rzymie oraz Archiwum Prowincji Małopolskiej Towarzystwa Jezusowego w Krakowie. Niektóre z opracowanych przez niego biogramów zostały opublikowane w powojennych zeszytach PSB. Jego współpracę z PSB gwałtownie przerwał wybuch II wojny światowej. Ks. S. Bednarski zmarł na skutek szykan i wyczerpania, głodu i ciężkiej pracy 16 lipca 1942 roku w niemieckim obozie koncentracyjnym w Dachau k. Monachium.

Purpose The purpose of this study was to capture information on patient experiences and perspectives of group medical appointments (GMAs) and compare them to those attending individual appointments (IAs) with the diabetes education team (usual care) for managing type 2 diabetes. Methods Adults (N = 18; 61% male; 83% 50-70 years old ) with type 2 diabetes (or prediabetes) living in rural Saskatchewan were recruited to complete a semistructured interview on their experiences with GMAs or IAs. To be eligible to participate, individuals must have attended at least 2 GMAs or 2 IAs. Transcripts were coded and analyzed using content analysis. Results Overall, participants spoke highly of their respective appointment type. Results indicated that both appointment types positively influenced understanding of diabetes management, with the most notable difference being greater understanding of stress management in the GMAs. Participants identified several positive aspects of each appointment type, which included convenience, supportive and enjoyable, and informative for GMAs and time and tailored information for IAs. Participants provided some suggestions to improve diabetes related-care for their respective appointment type. Conclusions Participants of GMAs and IAs for type 2 diabetes each reported unique strengths to their respective care plan and reported benefiting from their care.

Background: We aimed to translate, cross-culturally adapt, and validate the General Medication Adherence Scale (GMAS) into Vietnamese. Methods: We followed the guidelines of Beaton et al. during the translation and adaptation process. In Stage I, two translators translated the GMAS to Vietnamese. Stage II involved synthesizing the two translations. Stage III featured a back translation. Stage IV included an expert committee review and the creation of the pre-final version of the GMAS, and in stage V, pilot testing was conducted on 42 Vietnamese patients with type 2 diabetes. The psychometric validation process evaluated the reliability and validity of the questionnaire. The internal consistency and test–retest reliability were assessed by Cronbach’s alpha and Spearman’s correlation coefficients. The construct validity was determined by an association examination between the levels of adherence and patient characteristics. The content validity was based on the opinion and assessment score by the expert committee. The Vietnamese version of the GMAS was created, including 11 items divided into three domains. There was a good equivalence between the English and the Vietnamese versions of the GMAS in all four criteria. Results: One hundred and seventy-seven patients were participating in the psychometric validation process. Cronbach’s alpha was acceptable for all questionnaire items (0.817). Spearman’s correlation coefficient of the test–retest reliability was acceptable for the GMAS (0.879). There are significant correlations between medication adherence levels and occupation, income, and the Beliefs about Medicines Questionnaire (BMQ) score regarding construct validity. Conclusions: The Vietnamese version of GMAS can be considered a reliable and valid tool for assessing medication adherence in Vietnamese patients.

In 2008 the Campus of the Warsaw School of Economics (SGH) was entered into the register of monuments. The Research Pavilion, so called Building A, is the oldest of the campus buildings. It was constructed between WWI and WWII according to the design of Jan Koszczyc-Witkiewicz, one of the most renowned contemporary architects. During WWII, immediately after the end of the Warsaw Uprising, the Germans burnt down this building despite the signed capitulation agreement guaranteeing the protection of Polish national heritage monuments. The building accommodated at that time the archives of Polish pre-war state institutions, which were completely destroyed. The building was reconstructed after the WWII as a results of the efforts of the university authorities and personal involvement of Professor Stanisław Skrzywan. ABSTRACTWe report a multiwavelength study of the massive ($M_{\star } \gtrsim 10^{11} \rm {M}_{\odot }$), z ∼ 2 star-forming galaxy GMASS 0953, which hosts an obscured AGN. We combined near-infrared observations of the GNIRS, SINFONI and KMOS spectrographs to study the kinematics of the [O iii] λ5007 and H α emission lines. Our analysis shows that GMASS 0953 may host an ionized disc extending up to 13 kpc, which rotates at a velocity of $V_{\rm {ion}} = 203^{+17}_{-20}$ km s−1 at the outermost radius. Evidence of rotation on a smaller scale (R ∼ 1 kpc) arises from the CO(J = 6–5) line. The central velocity $V_{\rm {CO}} = 320^{+ 92}_{-53}$ km s−1 traced by the molecular gas is higher than Vion, suggesting that the galaxy harbours a multiphase disc with a rotation curve that peaks in the very central regions. The galaxy appears well located on the z = 0 baryonic Tully–Fisher relation. We also discuss the possibility that the [O iii] λ5007 and H α velocity gradients are due to a galactic-scale wind. Besides, we found evidence of an AGN-driven outflow traced by a broad blueshifted wing affecting the [O iii] λ5007 line, which presents a velocity offset Δv = −535 ± 152 km s−1 from the systemic velocity. Because of the short depletion time-scale (τdep ∼ 108 yr) due to gas ejection and gas consumption by star formation activity, GMASS 0953 may likely evolve into a passive galaxy. However, the role of the AGN in depleting the gas reservoir of the galaxy is quite unclear because of the uncertainties affecting the outflow rate.

Drugi – odnosi się do rozwiązań przestrzenno-formalnych i estetycznych. Trzeci – to indywidualnie subiektywne interpretacje dokonywane przez poszczególnych obserwatorów. Pierwszy – abstrakcyjnie kształtuje niematerialną strukturę kompozycji przekazywanej Idei (treści, znaczeń, miejsc, funkcji, estetyki itp.), nadając jej na przykład formę zwartą bądź rozproszoną. Drugi – stanowiąc materialną emanację pierwszego, konstruuje odpowiadającą mu strukturę materialną, na przykład: filozoficznej metafory zwartego gmachu bądź rozproszoną – kompilacyjną. „Kogo stać?” – wystawa niestała w Muzeum Etnograficznego w Krakowie.Tekst wprowadza czytelników w kulisy zmian, jakie zaszły pod koniec 2020 roku na wystawie stałej Muzeum Etnograficznego w Krakowie. W dwóch pomieszczaniach ekspozycji prezentowanej w głównym gmachu Muzeum powstała osobna przestrzeń, zatytułowana „Kogo stać?”. Zamiast uogólniających wniosków na temat „kultury ludowej” i „ludu”, kuratorki proponują opowieść o różnych ludziach, utkaną z indywidualnych głosów, konkretnych ludzkich losów, bardzo różnych doświadczeń – przemilczanych, zapomnianych. W ten sposób etnograficzna kolekcja staje się kluczem do rozmowy o spuściźnie – nierzadko kłopotliwym spadku po przodkach oraz emocjach związanych z wchodzeniem w niejednoznaczną rolę spadkobierców.
